56 Forest Manor Rd Unit 3, North York, ON M2J 1M1, Canada
Modern, intimate Japanese sushi bar featuring seasonal Chef's choice menu served in traditional gozen style meals.
Came here for lunch to celebrate my wife’s birthday. It was great! Classic omakase for a decent price. Parking was convenient downstairs in covered parking.
Nice intimate date night place for omakase. We had the $88 summer special, which includes soup, 10pc nigiri, ikura bowl, maki, handroll, and dessert. Sake flight had nice selection. Ordered additional aka ebi and otoro. For the price, aka ebi is definitely better. Removing a star as pieces could be thicker, and we almost missed out on a nigiri. Make sure you pay attention to how many pieces you've received.
Came in for lunch. The place is lovely, parking situation is a tad difficult when the restaurant is a part of a condo complex. The experience was great, speed/tempo was good. It is a lot of food for me for lunch, 10 nigri + fotomaki + hosomaki + salmon roe don + toro hand roll = too much rice (carbs) for us. Fulfilling yes, I prefer a little more variety with less rice. Sushi rice was well made, fish is fresh and plenty. I will consider coming back for sure!
Visited Jumi Gozen for their summer special tasting menu for $88. Overall, it was an okay experience. I did enjoy that it was a smaller, quieter restaurant which made it a little more intimate. Everything tasted good, but for the price I expected the quality and variety to be better. We started off with a standard dashi and moved on to the nigiri including Hokkaido scallop, sea bass, ocean trout, BC uni, various cuts of tuna, and the like. The maki rolls flavour wise were good, but the seaweed was always very soggy. The fillings included gourd and eel with egg, mushrooms, and cucumber. If this was offered at a cheaper price, I would recommend trying it but as it is, there are other options that offer a better experience at similar pricing.
Food was exceptional 👌. Service is welcoming and overall I feel the value is totally worth it. We got the $88 set and was very impressed with the selection and the thought behind the dishes. Would recommend to give it a try.
Came here on a Thursday night, it was quiet. Note that there are only 10-12 seats at the counter, facing the sushi chef. Omakase style menu, near the end of the omakase courses, we were presented an a la carte menu, in case we wanted more food. But I was already very full at that time so I passed on that.
We recently went to Jumi to celebrate our anniversary and it was amazing. The food was very fresh and each had their own unique taste and flavour. The chef was very friendly and knowledgeable. The other staff were also very attentive, friendly and polite. The ambience was very pleasant and calming. Definitely a must try!
Came here to celebrate my birthday, compare to other Japanese restaurants in Toronto, this restaurant is good, but compare to other omakase, I’ll say it’s below average. However, the restaurant knew that it’s my birthday and prepared a little birthday surprise for me, it’s nice for them to do it.
I love this place because you can be as loud as you want and talk with your friends and not disturb anybody. Stark contrast from a traditional Omakase, where you have to be very quiet and polite. The sushi is not the best in town, but it s pretty good for the price point of $68 lunch. I left more full than Sushi Umi and ATO lunches.
Came here for our 10th year anniversary and they did not disappoint. All the sushi was very fresh and delicious. The chef was so funny and made it very enjoyable. The staff was very attentive and made sure we have tea cup constantly full. They surprised us at the end with an anniversary dessert
Great value omakase!
Came here for an omakase dinner. Chef prepared lovely tasty dishes. The staff members were all very attentive to my food allergies. Presentation for dessert was beautiful with a little surprise for celebrating our anniversary here. Would return!
10/10 chef was amazing, food was incredible
This is a very cosy restaurant like a gem stone hide inside one of the neighborhood. Food is good pick from our chef! Although the size is a bit small but compare the money that you pay, I will say Value for money . If you need to celebrate any special date, please consider this place! Parking: You need to park inside the residence parking lot! Of course this is not convenience as you park inside any plaza parking lot and walk to the shop! However is a safe place to park your car!
Came here for the 13 course omakase. The 13 courses mainly consisted of sushi & one hand roll. The ingredients were fresh and when paired with the sauces were delightful! We also added some a la carte items as they were super yummy. The staff and chef were very friendly and attentive. We had a great time.
A very good entry-level omasake, the portion is completely filling, the ingredients are fresh, and the chef is very patient in explaining the dishes. The restaurant can accommodate about 10 people, and the atmosphere is very good and suitable for dates. If it s a special day, you can also request a special plate arrangement~
Grabbed an early dinner at Jumi and it was excellent. The tasting menu consisted of several dishes with an emphasis on fish. From start to finish it was a great meal, well paced, and well portioned. I am just the right amount stuffed. The drink menu was extensive with many sake options. Tonight though I was in a wine mood so I had a few glasses of wine followed by a tea to close things out. My favourite part of the meal was the ability to tack on an extra dish towards the end of the meal. I was pretty full but I decided to get the premium nigiri selection and it was divine. If folks want good Japanese food and a nice ambiance this is a great option.
Lunch omakase is really divine.
The photos are pretty misleading, the space doesn t feel upscale like in their main photo or the photo in the website. The lighting is actually very bright and feels like a regular restaurant. On the food, I guess all the fancy photos are of the private dining menu? The signature gozen? However when I made a reservation the only options are the dinner or lunch omakase which aren t great. 2 out of the 8 courses are MAKI! and not even special maki, literally CUCUMBER MAKI! I am so confused, never been served maki at an omakase before. I much rather spend extra $50 pp and go to a high end omakase. I guess lunch would be worth it if u wanted a casual lunch and lived in the area.
Okay, not amazing. Lots of competition at this price point. TLDR: just go to Zen. Nigiri is slightly better than an upscale takeout. Semi-premium offerings with little focus on seasonality, technique, or flavour, just a touch of (superfluous) decoration. Slightly worse than Yasu, which is the benchmark entry-level nigiri. Limited sake offerings. Service was attentive, although server was awkwardly traversing the sushi bar to pour. Atmosphere was wanting. Impossible to get in and out of chairs at the sushi bar. Odd choice of pop music, somewhat add odds with the serenity of a sushi bar. There was a genuine effort by the staff to do a good job, unfortunately, its just not up to snuff.
My Japanese friend recommended this restaurant, and I chose it for a date night. Having lived in Toronto for a year, I was pleasantly surprised to find such delicious sushi outside of Japan. This has quickly become my new favorite spot, and I will definitely be returning. Thank you, Chef Eaton!
I enjoy coming here for different menus every season and this time I had the summer special Omakase sushi. The fish was all very fresh and tasty, the chef is professional and the server is very friendly and attentive which really made it a great experience. That kind of service and sushi quality for $88 is definitely worth it!
I loved it! I had a business lunch at Jumi and it was perfect. Since we went on a Thursday, the place wasn t too busy, which made for a relaxing and conducive atmosphere for our meeting. The fish was the perfect amount and incredibly fresh.
Amazing !! I had a family dinner for my brother s birthday. The chef was very skilled and knowledgeable. The staff were attentive and making sure we were all taken cared. The wagyu with foie gras sushi was definitely my favorite. Perfect for a special evening out, I can t wait to return for their next seasonal dinner.
I am Japanese. This is the only Japanese restaurant in Canada that left an impression on me as a Japanese. If you want to try real Japanese food, please visit. This is real Japanese food:)
I had the lunch omakase experience and was blown away. The quality was off the charts and I can say with certainty I ve never had an omakase experience with a chef of this caliber at this kind of price point. I feel like this is an absolute steal at the pricing being offered compared to the quality and care presented. The service was incredible and I honestly think if it s within their power the staff would take care of whatever need you might have. I will definitely be coming back and strongly recommend anyone else to do the same before this place gets the hype it deserves and reservations end up 6+ months out!
We were lucky enough to have snagged a lunch reservation at Jumi Gozen Bar on a Saturday, since we came all the way from Ohio and this was a last minute decision. My husband and I thoroughly enjoyed our omakase set experience. The bar s ambiance is friendly and relaxing compared to the bustling atmosphere of Downtown Toronto. Our waitress was attentive and always available when needed. The quality and freshness of the fish is a 5/5. The taste of the food itself is a 5/5. Each nigiri piece and sushi roll was made with care and seasoned to taste. I m very happy to have had a great experience on my birthday. Highly recommended! We will definitely come back.
We had an amazing, unique experience here. The environment was calming and pleasant. The food was top notch, and prepared in front of you. And to top it off, the service was excellent. I would highly recommend this experience to everyone looking to try omakase.
This is a boutique type authentic Japanese restaurant. The space is very small with no tables. Customers sit at bar with about 11 seats. The decoration is modern simple. It s clean. It requires reservation due to limited space. The service is 5-star. I couldn t think what else is needed. The food is in set, not much choice. Actually I don t even know what I was going to eat, of course, I know it s sushi type. The set includes sushi and rolls. For the sushi, the fish is in very small thin pieces. The rolls are full of rice. It is in the set, whether you like or not. Overall the food is ok good, but not any significant better or different from other average Japanese restaurants in the city. At the end, the price is very high. I can call it very expensive. It also add 18% tips on top. I guess the service comes with the price. Personally I like the service, but doesn t like not knowing what I will eat and having to eat what I don t prefer to eat.
Lunch omakaske is amazing. I chose the extra package for $20 exclusive option which came with higher grade of the food on top of the regular menu. Besides, I picked the Sake journey came with 3 different types of sake. Chef was very professional on explaining every dish. Looking forward to their dinner menu
My husband and I had the spring Gozen Menu for dinner and it was amazing. They use a lot of fresh seasonal ingredients that just remind me of my home country. I really enjoyed all the dedicated dishes which are simple yet showcase the flavors of ingredients. They were very authentic. They also have an option of adding a small dish before dessert. I was a bit of full at the time but I have no regret that I pushed myself for extra Wagyu gunkan! !
If you like Japanese food or sushi and happen to be in Toronto , I totally recommend Jumi Gozen bar. It has a limited menu, but what they serve is excellent. I m Japanese and can attest that their food is authentic. This is the real deal. The surroundings inside the bar are comfortable but very stylish. The staff are so kind and happy to explain the dishes to customers. Id love to go to eat here again
Food was excellent, the dishes paired perfectly with the drinks that were on menu. You can tell that the chef has specially curated each item and didn t necessarily choose things out of popularity. For example, the sparkling jasmine tea was fantastic.. I later tried to find this drink but was quite disappointed that it s a very difficult item to get! One item was very interesting - the futomaki was not like any other I have had before. In fact, I don t personally enjoy it much but really did when the chef made his version of it. We had tried the premium lunch omakase. We would love to come back. Staff were attentive and nice. It s quite a relatively large restaurant for such a small seating.. the ones downtown a much smaller - but you also get to see everything (a lot of their fridges were in the preparation area).
The restaurant is an omakase spot with a rotating menu (seems to be based on season). The space is small and can only seat about 10 or so people at a bar where they prepare and plate some of the food, so its very intimate. Service was impeccable (our wine and water glasses were continuously topped up, they helped us in and out of our seats, etc.). They were also very polite and friendly. The meal itself was yummy, and everything was uniquely presented. It doesnt look like it, but all the courses ended up being quite filling. As with many similar places, it does get pricey (~$200 per person without any drinks or add-ons), so for most people, its definitely a special occasion spot and not somewhere youd likely go frequently. The location is nestled in the apartment buildings near Fairview Mall. It can be a little tricky to spot at first. There is street parking but also underground parking as well.
I had a wonderful experience at Jumi gozen bar! I felt like the serving was slower than usual, but the quality of food made up for it. Everything was really tasty and plating was also very pretty! Atmosphere of the restaurant was really cozy. Overall my experience was excellent!
Stunning and intricate culinary experience. Full video on IG, but here is a snippet of my favourite parts!
I wanted to like this more than I did. The space is moody and intimate, and the staff were very friendly and attentive. The food was fine. We were there for the special holiday dinner menu. Everything was presented so beautifully, but some dishes just didnt work quite as intended. The yellowtail starter was a bit fishy and the meat was tough. I was informed it was supposed to be like that. Im not a fish connoisseur so okay, sure. I really appreciate the creativity that went into every bite, I just felt some were overly complicated. My real problem is that after spending over $200 per person, I was still hungry.
Great price for Omakase, great service and great taste
Chef Jeff is a very attentive chef and served us with his utmost care. Like the restaurant although it is a bit small and crowded in seating arrangements. Will consider dinner in the future.
Quite unbeatable for the price around the GTA. Nice vibes decent location and lovely staff.
Great experience!
Food was top notch. Service was spectacular - very attentive staff. Each dish was delicately prepared and served. The space is small, but it adds to the intimate atmosphere and adds a level of exclusivity. Parking underneath the building in visitor parking within the condo (or on the street). I wish I could identify all the items I ate, but once they went down, I totally forgot.
I went to Jumi for our anniversary and we both greatly enjoyed the experience! We loved the ambiance and the presentation of the food. Everything was very well done and delicious. The array of ingredients were all very fresh. The chefs that prepared it took care of the process with patience. It was honestly a beautiful art to not only look at but to have and taste aswell. The service was attentive, always making sure to move our plates for next courses and filled out waters accordingly.
Good sushi place to eat when I was around the area to do some work. Definitely worth a visit if you re in the area.
Best dining experience I ve had in awhile! Every dish looked like a piece of art. Loved the ambience and attention to detail. Staff was so kind and accommodating. I highly recommended their Gozen set for any upcoming special occasion, but be sure to read their cancellation policy before booking as it appears to be strict. Will be back soon to try their takeout menu.
All the staff were very friendly and knowledgeable about all the dishes. The food was really good. Everything is prepared right in front of you, so you can really see the attention to detail. Would recommend as a restaurant to celebrate a special occasion.
Dietary restrictions: Pescatarian Food
Loud music very expensive and too many useless waiters just watching you ....never go back ...food was good
Fantastic meal for a birthday night out! There were 10 of us and we essentially had the whole place to ourselves for a private booking. We were warmly welcomed, served with drinks and it was a seamless dinner tasting filled with fresh sushi, sashimi, seafood hotpot and bluefin tuna! I cant recall the namesof the other dishes but all were delightful. Presentation was beautiful and we couldnt have asked for a better dinner venue to celebrate a special birthday. Thank you @JumiGozen staff for a memorable meal and that old-fashioned - best Ive ever tried!
The presentation was nice but the flavours were subpar. There is definitely room for improvement. The marinated king crab and the lobster in the hotpot was overcooked. I was expecting a better experience for this price point. Also, the tap water was running the whole time I was seated and could not understand why as there was nothing in the sink. Just seemed to be very wasteful with no reason.
Almost a perfect dining experience. Parking is in short supply. Adding a location and parking instructions to the website would be helpful. Small and quaint with seating for approximately 10 to 15(est) guests. Young waiting staff, enthusiastic but does not exude confidence like a seasoned restaurateurs. However, this does not detract from experience as it adds a bit of uniqueness. Freshness to the usual omakase. Enjoyed the standard omakase menu at $58/person. The fish is fresh and flavours are delicious. Preparation of the sushi can be improved as we experienced some pieces with loose rice (insufficiently compressed) which potentially leads to a messier experience. Omakase as an experience/event was good. Have had better before as well. I believe an experience like this should have more presentation by the chef. More information of where the fish was caught, why it was selected, and preparation process would be fun. Drink selection is excellent for pairing to food served.
Food - definitely one of my favorite food places. Its pricey but compared to other similar places. Its well worth it. The presentation was beautiful! The food was made fresh in front of us, and there was a good variety. I enjoyed everything Ive eaten and was full at the end of the meal. They also offer drinks and takeaway. Their menu rotates every season, so Ill would love to come back! Service - Top notched. The staff was very knowledgeable and explained each dish, which elevated the experience. They were professional, friendly, and quick! Ambiance - It is a small restaurant and only seats max 12. You have to book ahead of time. The decor was great and the bathroom was so nice. I love the details, the dark, moody interior with hints of japanese architecture. They utilize the small space as best as they can. Bravo. Accessibility - Parking was a bit dicey. There is street parking but there are only a few spaces. If you want to park indoors, you have to park in the condo. Go between the two buildings. its not around it. Overall, I would recommend it at least once in your life to try.
I recently celebrated my birthday at Jumi Gozen Bar and it was truly unforgettable. The ambience was beautiful and the staff was incredibly friendly and attentive throughout the entire evening. The sushi was some of the best Ive ever had - fresh, flavorful, and beautifully presented. The chef prepared a special birthday dessert just for me, complete with a candle for me to make a wish. It was such a thoughtful touch that made my night even more special. Overall, the experience was absolutely fantastic and I would highly recommend this restaurant to anyone looking for outstanding sushi and a memorable dining experience.
Bad service, I into the shop , i ask for takeout manu, the guy look at me and tell me they don t sell California roll there , and not welcome kid into there. Ridiculous
Definitely a feast of flavors Sushi & sashimi & other dishes are all so delicious Food
This is an update of 2 days ago visit . Everything was amazing. I like the new touch of little toilette and water wooden box to clean your hands! The menu as expected has changed whoch certainly spike the sense of adventure and anticipation. I am not sure about the mixed fish quasi Cali-rolls at the end of the serving however which seemed to be is to use the left-over cut-outs from all the amazing nigiris presented. The cut of fish variety were a bit too thin to fully enjoy the flavor of each fish, rice portiin is perfect however. The salmon cut this time is a bit on the dry side. Still a good overall experience but I will give it another chance to have friends from Michelin to come with me for an experience (this time, I can only give it a 3.8-4) Awesome and beautifully presented food! Endearing manager! The Itamai (sushi chef) is very polite but I would hope for a friendlier engagement. I guess he just wants to focus so to present the food well Parking: Certainly one must be smart to find a sare spot! LOL!
Disrespectful. Terrible service. The food is inadvertently priced.
Good atmosphere
Very price efficient!! Great food quality for the price!!
I saw a TikTok which advertised Jumi Gozen regarding a $50 omakasi experience. I was brutally surprised halfway when I realized it was $150 for dinner (careless mistake on my part). After coming to terms with the price, I must say, it was worth it. Food: the ingredients are top-notch. Sourcing the ingredients would be impossible on your own. The food was incredible and fits the cost of the dinner. Service: Really good, they filled your water and napkin almost immediately. They also explained every dish. One Gripe: I just felt looked down upon ONE of the servers. It was just one guy - I deducted a star.
First off. WOW . Second point is this was a very powerful experience. The combination of atmosphere and rare fish from all over the world came together in my mouth like a great white shark eating into a seal. Highly recommend.
Everything you would expect from a Gozen bar. The service was amazing, staff was extremely attentive and welcoming. Food was presented beautifully. I especially enjoyed the Chillean seabass saikyo-yaki (miso marinated) as it melts in your mouth. An intimate setting with only counter seating for 12 people, great for special occassions.
If you re looking for a well-priced $58 Omakase that doesn t break the bank, I d recommend Jumi. @mynameisdmoon brought me here for my birthday and we didn t know what to expect. I d note that the nigiri pieces are smaller than the ones we usually get but it makes sense with the pricing and for lunch. They got all of fish textures right - I especially loved the Hamachi (yellowtail) and the Hotate (scallop). Overall, it s a good chance to get a taster of a variety of fish and is well worth the price for the quality of the fish. The service was great, our waters were always filled and napkins changed whenever needed. I loved the quirky hand towel tablet that you put into the water at the start. They also gave me a little treat and candle at the end! $58 Lunch Omakase +$20 for the premium nigiri option -10pc seasonal nigiri -2pc futomaki -3pc hosomaki -handroll -ikura bowl
Great food presentation and very friendly service. All the food was very fresh and tasteful. The sale pairing was good, they took the time to explain the pairing. Only improvement opportunity was the wagyu beef could use beef with more fat and/or a cooking method that gives it more of a grilling taste.
$100/pp (after tax and tip) lunch omakase + upgraded to premium nigiri ($80/pp) + blueberry soda reason for rating - fresh fish! - attractive pricing for a fair amount of dishes in an omakase I would dock off points for the parking as its quite bad. Just take transit or walk from Fairview. The blueberry soda was good but I would hold off on ordering it.
Fun intro to omakase (chefs choice) type set menu. Overall, this is a middle of the road experience in terms of the quality and selection of fish. Definitely worth it for the price. Beware, there may be a mandatory upgrade to the premium nigiri selection for an additional $20 as was the case for my lunch sitting. Parking: There is free underground available, but the concierge was not able to open the main door until someone showed up with a remote.
good sushi place that isnt too far from my home. I had the minidon and it was an artistic delight but i personality did not enjoy the wagyu shabu shabu because I expect more flavour from the soup. I think it would be nice if there are some gingers served between the small dishes as palate cleanser. They change their menu often and i cant wait to try their next menu!
Great omakase experience. Food, service, and atmosphere all 5 stars. The lunch menu is awesome value.
Amazing customer service, beautiful small restaurant and really good seafoods
Had an enjoyable lunch experience! Pretty fun experience seeing your food made infront of you & getting to speak with the chef. They were very friendly and happy to share their knowledge on the food they serve. The food quality is top notch. Ingredients are fresh and are flown in from Japan. I would say some ingredients are pretty exclusive here as you wouldnt be able to find it anywhere else locally (i.e. Bell Fish Sashimi & some garnishes). It is costly but it beats flying to Japan for something similar. Worth a try! Kid-friendliness: Probably not the place to bring your little ones.
Very tasty and good service. Portions were adequate for the lunch menu. Upgraded to the premium lunch menu and it was worth it. Parking instructions were a bit hard to find since the SMS instructions referred to a Rexall that doesnt exist anymore. I parked on the street instead. Parking: Limited street parking or adjacent condo parking garage.
Highly recommend! We had a delightful Gozen dinner here! The tray was stunning and food were exceptional! Every ingredient was fresh. Waygu beef melt in your mouth. The dessert was mango and coconut with lemongrass butterfly pea jelly, it was refreshing and just a perfect finish for the dinner. We enjoyed every bit and felt like we were in Japan. Chef was very professional when introducing each dish for us. The server was polite and knowledgeable about sake. We would go again for their omekasa lunch.
Amazing foods and good service, I love it.
Had lunch omakase for 4 for moms birthday. Added premium nigiri for everyone (+$20 per person). Good - ingredients all fresh. Delicious shari rice. Chef Lam explained the nigiris everytime, and was accomodating. Bad - maybe I had too high expectation. 1. Parking. Parking instructions are not accurate. Where is rexall? Very hard to get to the ground floor from the parking lot via condo. Traffic Is very busy and not organized. 2. Server was attentive and nice but she couldnt explain the difference between regular omakase and premium omakase. 3. Miso tasted weird and different. Felt like miso is made of soysauce and not soy beans...... dark and salty. 4. Had Australian wagyu sushi but it was too hard to chew, I had to spit it out. 5. Noticed that the customers who ordered regular omakase had unagi (eel) and scallop. I didn t get any of those. I ordered premium nigiris hoping that Id get ankimo (monkfish liver) seeing other posts, but I didnt get that either. I definitely felt like the $20 DIDNT ADD ANY EXTRA VALUE. I understand that omakase means leave it up to the chef but it would have been nice if they at least vaguely list what we can expect. Especially for regular vs premium nigiri. AGAIN, DO NOT ORDER PREMIUM, NOT WORTH the $$. Overall, altho fresh, fish slices were thin, the restaurant feels like one of those istagrammable spots with no value. It has some cute ambience and food presentation and some cool stuff like pop-up napkins but Id not go back and I would NOT recommend.
Jeff was fantastic! He is charming and knowledge and his knife skills was chef kiss!
Great presentation, interesting experience, definitely worth a visit. One small complaint, the Wagyu couldve been cut better. I got really thin pieces that didnt look the most fresh while my partner got fresher looking slices that were much thicker and a bit hard to eat.
Extremely Unprofessional and Unfresh. My experience at this omakase restaurant was highly disappointing. I found fishbones in my sushi twice, and the food seemed unfresh. The service was unprofessional, with no attention given to customer needs. Waitstaff seemed uninterested, and my drink order was taken only after I finished my first dish. Not worth trying, regardless of the price.
One of a kind Japanese restaurant in Toronto. Its called Gozen style, which used to only serve the emperor at the time. Its a must try. They also have lunch omakasa at around $50 ish, for clients that have a budget. Food
Really, really recommend this place not just for the delicious and fresh food but for the experience as well. It has limited seating, and a smaller setting but I find that you can focus more on the food and the chefs that way. The experience is heightened when you talk to the chefs. They tell you about the ingredients (fish specifically) where they specifically came from, and the reasoning for using them in a particular season. It really puts it into perspective as to why they use them and everything really makes sense. Not only that, while we were eating the chef whom we were speaking with made me and my girlfriend these swans! Really impressive knife skills. The food isnt cheap, but it was definitely worth it. And the presentation is gorgeous. Honestly, it was such a good time, and the ability to interact with the chefs make the time there even better. The head chef came up to us as well and we ended up buying the chef a beer because of how cool he was. Really great vibes in this place. You can be sure Ill dine here again!
Small, intimate spot for a unique type of omakase. The staff was friendly and explained the variety of dishes with just the right amount of detail. The food was delicious, fresh, and unique. The 9 different types of mini dons was my favourite course. Would definitely recommend this spot. Be sure to reserve a spot ahead of time as there are only 12 seats in the restaurant!
Went to their omakase lunch and was honestly blown away by the experience. For the price, they gave a lot of pieces and the quality of the fish was immaculate. In particular the torched black cod, ikura and salmon really blew me away. Would highly recommend going for the lunch omakase and would definitely be back to try some of the other menu items in the future.
Disappointing. There is not much unique seafood. Not that fresh. I don t recommend this place. Not tasty.
Highly recommend this restaurant. Big fan of Jumi, I came here almost every 2-3 months, ingredients are fresh and unique, chill music, nice chefs and server. The price is really reasonable to me and really worth it. Definitely will come back as always.
Highly recommend! We enjoyed authentic Japanese food here and all the fish were fresh. Also staffs were super nice. We will visit again!
I ordered their Oshi set (delivery) and it was divine. It came with 6 oshi (shrimp, salmon, Unagi). 6 piece sashimi, teriyaki chicken, tamago, shrimp, grilled salmon, and squid tempura w/tosazu. The shrimp oshi was my favourite oshi, the garnish was such a tasty touch! The squid tempera w/ tosazu was so delicious - I would order multiple pieces of this if I could! And the squid sashimi was so fresh and sweet. I would recommend this - the packaging was also very beautiful. I haven t been here for dine-in but i certainly will come by one time!
Have been to Jumi multiple times, this time trying out the lastest lunch omakase. Overall very fascinating experience, the staff are very welcoming and the freshness of the ingredients is top, best at its price point. ($58 / Person) Definitely recommend everyone to try it out!
Went there for lunch omakase today. Ingredients were really fresh. Fish was freshly cut in front of us. Service was good, chef introduced every dish clearly. Unagi lovers should definitely try the unagi futomaki in their lunch omakase. Akami nigiri was refreshing with shredded lime peel. The experience is beyond expectation, def worth the price!
Very good and fresh seafood nigiri, nice chef Jeff. Very authentic seafood and was prepared really well.reserve again immediately
Very nice omakase experience. The seafood is fresh, and the atmosphere is great.
Been coming here ever since they opened. Take-out box is the best I ve seen and dine in is even better. Excellent quality fish and service. The aesthetics are a bonus. Would highly recommend.
The lunch omakase is so worth it here! Loved the food, especially the nigiri. I thought the handroll and ikura bowl was okay but every single sushi I got was so delicious. My favourites were the yellowtail, seabream, marinated tuna, octopus, and the one (forgot the fish name) with sea salt on top and the blowtorched one. Ok it sounds like I just named every one... but they were legit SO delicious. I was in bliss. I enjoyed the sake flight too. Surprisingly, I preferred the dry over sweet. And I got a special dessert for the occasion we were celebrating - how sweet! It was ice cream mochi with some blue jelly. Pretty and tasty. My only complaints - sometimes the sushi rice felt just slightly falling apart (not melded together), and the service was a bit awkward/jarring at times in how theyd reach over me or interrupt the conversation multiple times to grab something. Maybe the space is a little too small to maneuver well. The sushi chef was very kind, patient, and informative though. Overall I would still definitely go again. Im drooling thinking about all the amazing food we got.
It was a very disappointing experience. We paid $143 (before tax and tips) per person and the whole omakase experience was very underwhelming and lackluster. The taste of the food was good, the presentation was great. The service was great too. BUT the portion was SO SMALL that it felt like I paid $143 PER PERSON for finger foods/hors doeuvre/appetizers. There was NO NIGIRI SUSHI in the omakase set. The waiter gave us the a la carte menu after we finished the omakase. And also, they dont allow you to order from the a la carte until after the omakase. I regret not doing more research on their website and asking more questions before I made the reservation. I regret even more for not leaving the restaurant when told we could not order a la carte until the end of omakase. For the price range, I could have spent it on a much more satisfying sushi experience. Will NOT recommend and will NOT come back. I honestly dont think this will be a very sustainable business model coz it did feel kinda misleading and a complete rip off when theres zero nigiri sushi and so little food for the price.
An upscale and elegant dining experience. The setting is intimate and only about 12 diners per session. You sit together and get to watch the food being prepared, as well as have the chef present the dishes to you. the presentation is like no other!! absolutely stunning, almost too pretty to eat lol. but luckily it s too delicious to turn away!
Such a great experience!
Great sushi, must try the three different kinds of tuna fish (blue fin lean tuna/ medium fatty tuna/ super fatty tuna belly)! You will be amazed by the hierarchy of tastes! Chef KB is nice and cheerful. Enjoyed her sushi so much.
10/10
This is an amazing restaurant with real authentic flavours! We ordered a premium lunch Omakase which had 10 pc Seasonal Nigiri, 2 pc Futomaki, 3 pc Hosomaki, Ikura bowl and Handroll. Everything was fresh and each garnish went well with every fish. My favorite was Otoro and Gindara. Especially the Otoro was melt in my mouth. The chef was very friendly, attention to detail, and customized the sushi to each customer. The service was pretty good as well. Would highly recommend this place and absolutely come back!!
This is our first time here and we thoroughly enjoyed the service and food at Jumi. We came here for our anniversary and my husband is usually a picky eater when it comes to fish. He tried all of it and really enjoyed it. Food was great and beautifully served. Chef Jeff was pleasant to speak with during dinner and he would adjust small things to our preferences to help us enjoy the food better. We definitely will come back and try their new menu. Thank you for a wonderful dinner!
The website makes it look more upscale and traditional than it actually is. While it wasn t bad, I was expecting a nicer, more professional omakase lunch. Music was loud and vibes were off. The greeter wasn t particularly friendly but the chef and waitress were nice. I feel their effort. The nigiri size is smaller than average. Rice was too sticky for the first few and overpowered the already small and thin fish, and lacked flavour/ sauce. Some of the fish and maki were also cut unevenly so it looks messy and unprofessional. The standout items for me were: - dashi soup - futomaki - tuna with yuzu
Absolutely amazing food, service and atmosphere. Outstanding. So enjoyable. Very nice cozy vibes. Parking is available underground. We went for lunch. Must get the premium nigiri experience. Sake flight was pretty nice. Saicho green tea was bubbly and sweet.
High quality of food and fantastic customer service experience Atmosphere 100% positive Food 100% positive Customer service 100% positive Overall 100%
Came here to celebrate birthday. Food was delicious and super fresh. You can see the details put into each dishes and our chef was friendly and on point. We ate faster than the others and he was able to manage our food at a different speed accordingly. Definitely recommend
Nice spot for high price-quality ratio omakase, ordered their lunch omakase with premium update and 26 dollars sake pair for about 150 (with tax and tips), the portion is quite small but the quality of the ingredients is pretty good, and you get to taste variety of fishes, so overall I m quite satisfied with this experience, will keep visiting in the future for their seasonal gozen sets.
Quite an authentic experience. We tried the regular lunch and an upgraded lunch. Both options were very delicious. The right amount of food that youre not overly stuffed or wanting more. Every dish tasted better and better.
Terrific food. So unique and delicious! Thank you for a wonderful experience!
This is a high quality sushi restaurant for everyone who can appreciate from excellent customer service experience and highest quality delicious food. The whole atmosphere is totally cleaned and well maintained. We highly recommend to anyone who enjoys sushi but on another level of expertise with master sushi chef with a magic touch.
Food tasted very good. My squid nigiri was very small. There was a noisy table beside me and the chef gave me smaller pieces for some of them. She also forgot one of my pieces and gave it to me at the very end, maybe also only gave me 9 pieces. Thats a little unexpected considering the price paid if one piece is missed. Not sure if she did it on purpose bc all the slices of fish are laid out beforehand so she couldnt miss it. Maybe she saw me staring for a while in shock at the small pieces. I was trying to keep from being disappointed, and when she asked if everything was ok, how can I say that the piece was so small politely? The tea is $3 with unlimited refills but they keep the teabag inside the cup, with a very tiny teacup so I was constantly asking for refills. I think the cup is supposed to be that tiny. Hand roll was surprisingly tasty. I like how they tell you exactly what the sushi is when they serve it to you. Love how they put the soy sauce on there. The door is normally locked. I thought maybe you needed a reservation. They seemed to not be expecting guests. I waited outside they just looked at me instead of greeting me, and I had to ask if the restaurant was open instead of being greeted and led to the table properly. I ended up changing my seat bc they didnt tell me where to sit and the restaurant is very small. They will hang up your coat and pull out your seat for you though.
Beautifully planned menu and attentive knowledgeable service team. Was very impressed by this location and the quality of food. Uniquely paired flavours with subbing presentation. Would highly recommend this place for any occasion. One piece of feedback for the wagyu: - one piece was served on toast and wagyu was slightly cooked which took away from the flavour - the other bite where wagyu was torc he ed could have been torched more for more smokiness
The attention to detail in every dish is remarkable. Each Gozen set is a masterpiece, blending traditional flavors with a modern twist. The sashimi is fresh, melting in your mouth, and the tempura is light and crispy. The atmosphere is serene, perfect for savoring each bite. Staff are knowledgeable and add to the authentic experience. Highly recommend for a taste of Japan in the heart of the city!
Amazing night overall! Came here for my 2 year anniversary with my significant other. Everything was on point! Food
The room had a warm feel and allowed us to relax and enjoy the ambience and skills of the chefs. Every dish presented well and gave you a different taste. Definitely would recommend you visit Jumi. Come prepared to eat and relax even in this winter weather.
We had Lunch Omakase which has authentic nigiri. The chefs presentation and the quality of ingredients were awesome. The staff were super friendly and the service was great. We really enjoyed lunch in a good atmosphere! Food : 5/5
Extremely happy with the quality of the food, service (it was take out but they were very friendly/professional over the phone and in person), and presentation 10/10. Upon arrival their team took the time to explain what each dish was and the quality ingredients used. Incredible attention to detail in making each piece of sushi. Consistent across the board. I cannot wait for indoor dining to commence for Jumi Gozen. I will definitely be making reservations when they open it up.
Simply love their presentation and the taste is fresh enough. :)
Food was very fresh and delicious.
Quality and presentation is amazing. Love that you can customize your nigiri order. Highly recommend.
Visually very appealing. Tasted just as great as it looked! All ingredients were very fresh and provided in abundance to make each bite super flavourful. Cannot wait to try this place again!
Amazing food, high quality. Highly recommend!
Walked in on a weekend around 6pm. Although the sushi was some of the freshest Ive had, my overall experience was quite poor. There was no dine in option, yet I had to wait for over an hour just for takeout. If I hadnt lived in the neighborhood, I would have walked away. I dont mind spending money on high quality food, but I feel too much of the cost went to the packaging rather than on the food itself. I love paying for pretty and delicious food. I dont know if I can justify paying for fancy garbage, and the waste-to-food ratio per takeout is quite high (folded paper container that mimics bento boxes, laminated business card, and fancier-than-average but still one-time-use chopstick,) Ultimately, no takeout experience really beats a dine-in experience, so the overall fancy packaging just seems wasteful. And what kind of sushi bar doesnt give wasabi? Almost everything they offer contains raw fish yet wish they had wasabi seems to be a common feedback on Google. I understand that not everyone eats wasabi, but all other sushi places Ive been to provides it by default. The lack of wasabi actually ruined the food for me. Wasabiless sushi for someone whos always eaten sushi with wasabi just doesnt taste the same. Edit: I m thankful of the owner s response below, but I don t want to release my personal email on Google review. My order was about a month ago.

Finest Indoor omakase dining (photos not in any particular Order ) Presentation and freshness are excellent Attention to detail Still pending lcbo approval for wines and sake license (April 2022) Can t wait for wines tasting menu in the future
Worth the drive. Just go and you wont be disappointed.
While visiting relatives in Toronto, I looked at Google Map and saw sushi. What a surprise. The fish is smooth and fat, so fresh. The set menu goes well together. just!
Such a great dine in experience to be able to sit and converse with the chefs, the host was amazing as well. I had the Jumi signature set and everything was delicious. A must visit if you re near Toronto.
I ordered takeout however my experience with this restaurant was great. Im pretty particular about things like the proportion of rice to fish as well as how thin the fish is sliced and this place was perfect for me. Everything was fresh too and ingredients felt like they were at their peak. Presentation and takeout box was beautiful too. I think the menu is a bit different between takeout and dine in, so I imagine their dine in experience would be nice too since their restaurant appeared small but ambient. Give this place a try!
Premium quality sushi and sashimi set. Great service as well - server explained what s included in the set before placing them in bag. Comes with premium quality chopsticks as well. Will come back to try their other menu items.
What a wonderful dining experience! Definitely recommend everyone to come try out this newly opened Japanese Omakase restaurant! Service was very good, the chef will explained every dish he served. He also told us the story about why the appetizers were served all together instead of one by one! Love the plating and the plates and utensils they used, very unique and elevated the dining experiences. We did the premium sushi, all fishes were super fresh and the textures and the sushi rice sweetness were all just perfect, loved it! They changes menu seasonally, looking forward to their summer menu already!
Most of the dishes are cold, sushi is not served like omakase place unless you upgrade adding $30 , but you get less pcs than regular menu. Just adding extra premium pcs to the regular menu is better. Hand roll at the end was best. Wagyu shabu shabu is not worth. All was ok until chef working wearing flipflop with open toe. Bill comes out around $350, but seeing flipflop made everything overpriced.
Over priced place, their takeout is better.
So fresh!
For me, a person who doesn t eat much Japanese food, this is a very good experience.
Great food
What a food adventure! Went here to celebrate our wedding anniversary and we we were re blown away by the whole experience!! Exceptional service and Remarkable Staff. Highly recommend!!!
What an amazing experience! appealing atmosphere and delicious food!!!
Went there on a Sunday evening and had a very good experience. Despite the restaurant being fully booked, service was incredible and servers were keeping up very well. Their ingredient were very fresh as well and the wagyu shabu shabu was the highlight of the night.
Vancouverite foodie travels to Ontario. Would definitely come back! The fish were tasty and way more unique than your normal sushi bars. Owner is also super nice and greeted and asked me how my experience was. Service also really good and made sure tea was topped up and hot
A stellar Japanese dining experience! Ingredients are so fresh and selected based on quality and seasonality. Their platings are on spot and seatings are comfortable. My family loves this place!!
I was floored by the presentation of the dishes and amazed at the quality and taste of seafood I was able to experience here! It is very challenging to find amazing sushi in Toronto/GTA, but I think I ve found my new go-to spot. Thanks again, Jumi Gozen Bar!
Excellent, unassuming and wonderful find. Extremely happy with the quality of the foods with high quality presentation, service and inventiveness. A highlight of North York, Toronto. Highly recommend and will come back again when I visit Toronto
Too much rice.
Good sushi, service is great! Taste fresh! Recommended!
Nice ambient. Nigiri is pretty good, the appetizers are just okay. Would get nigiri only if possible.
Great lunch for the family, super fresh and gorgeously packaged. A must try for anyone in the catchment area, particular highlight was the Eel! The chirashi was delicious! Looking forward to dining in and getting the pairing menu when I m back in Toronto!
My first time here and I had Jay as a server! He was very nice, knew everything about the menu and explained the dishes very well in detail! Can t wait to come back here! The chefs were great and quick. Great experience :)
Came here last night to celebrate mothers day! Service was great! We were quickly seated as we had made prior reservations for over 2 weeks in advance. Our chef Evan introduced himself and started preparing the dishes. He proceeded to explain each and every dish and fish. Let me say, I loved each and every piece of sushi... sashimi and fish. It was very tasty and both my parents were extremely impressed not only with the presentation but also the level of service they go above and beyond. We had their signature set $98 per person and added on additional nigiri for $30 per person. For $128, I was definitely full, however my boyfriend was just ok. Which isnt uncommon for an omakase experience. However he didnt need to eat anything else afterwards so thats good! Most of us (group of 5) were full and the server had asked if we wanted dessert, which we politely declined. However our chef Evan was nice enough to offer my mom a complimentary dessert on the house for Mothers Day which I thought was super sweet! Definitely give it a try, worth it!
The chef will set up side dishes and then serve to you, taste is good but wagyu was too raw for me. For the sushi we upgraded but all customers upgraded, it s cost 30 dollars, and dessert is not include.
I went to Jumi for lunch and ordered the Niguri and Wagu Don. The restaurant was decorated beautifully, the service was great, and the open concept allowed us to watch the chefs at work, preparing everything right before our eyes! The Nigiri was fresh and delicious, and the wagu was tasty, with a perfect soft boiled egg and perfectly seasoned sushi rice! They also have an amazing selection of drinks not offered at LCBO. We had the Yuzu sake and honeysuckle wine, and would go back again just to get our hands on those drinks alone
Jimmy was a great server, and the head chef Manato did an amazing job of explaining everything that was in the gozen set. Food tasted great, I chose to do the premium upgrade and it was definitely worth it. Highly recommended, absolutely amazing for a special night out, great experience.
The decoration is elegant, the environment is comfortable, the food is fresh and delicious!
I ordered take out from this restaurant so my rating is based on the take out experience. I ordered the traditional Chirashi and the 17 pcs signature nigiri for $72. The only way to order take out is online. I phone them because I have allergy restriction and they told me I have to order online and leave the allergy note when creating the order online. Abit of a pain to type my allergy note for substitute was intended only for Chirashi but they applied them to the signature nigiri also I think for things like these, should be handled by phone and chat in person so there is no misunderstanding.. anyway , not a big deal, it s just a side note want to mention. The fish are fresh. Wasabi, which is the good kind you would get from restaurant that s serious about sushi! Presentation of the dish is very pretty and good! Except for a minor complaint the outside of the box is not perfectly clean, they are actually abit wet and I have to wipe it first I hope it s just water. Lol. Again, not a biggie but just want to point this out if they are shooting for perfection Need to mention the only thing that s preventing me in giving the food 5 stars because of two things: the sushi rice is abit too soft (more mushy?) for my liking and the nori used for the roll doesn t has much of the nori taste/aroma. Price wise is not cheap but also not the most expensive either when comparing to restaurants offer similar fish quality such as Zen/Umi/Cho San Sushi in uptown. So I didn t regret to come and try. It s still a good quality sushi place.
This place offers authentic japanese cuisine with fresh seasonal ingredients. Their meal involves a extensive variety of culinary skills, sophisticated cuisine, delicate flavours and intricate plating. A highly recommended Japanese eatery with cosy environment that keep diners returning for more
Amazing experience. Small capacity but it is perfect for the personalized feeling and a great use of the space. We had the signature menu which was very nicely hand crafted. They take a lot of effort not only in the quality of the food but also the preparation and presentation. This is an overall experience and not just a dinner. I would suggest upgrading the nigiri to get the premium package. Will definitely be back!!
It was a very unique experience with amazing food and service. The waitress checked in on us regularly and explained the Gozen experience to us. The food was freshly prepared in front of us and the staff explained that the nigiri selection changes daily depending on what is flown in from Japan. It was 100% worth it the upgrade to the premium selection as the nigiri. We tried the spring menu and it captured the essence of light and refreshing flavours for the the season. I cant wait to try to summer menu.
If you appreciate art and get to eat is as well then the price point here wont deter you. Its pricey, but the service is great, the dishes are beautifully presented and your taste buds will go on a little journey. We ordered the Jumi Signature set and upgraded to the premium for an additional $30. For your first course, save the wagyu and the firefly squid for last because theyre the best. The cherry blossom tofu is an interesting taste and depending on your palette its a hit or a miss. The nigiri pieces you get with the premium set are all amazing and high quality. I was not full after our dinner but the experience was great.
I purchased the 7pcs Nigiri, 2 Futomaki Roll, 36pcs Aburi celebration set during mothers day. While approaching the restaurant, I was greeting by super friendly staff that was highly educated on the products that they were serving. Upon taking it out of the take out bag, I was greeted by stunning branded visuals from Asian influence. The attention to detail on the unpackaging experience felt luxurious and high end with its vibrant colour scheme. After getting everything laid out on the table and serval instagram shots later. The food tasted very fresh and was well garnished. The sushi had the right amount of vinegar, the fish was firm, shiny and not greasy or wet. The portions were very generous and overall had me going on till the party tray was gone. Needless to say, I will be returning to Jumi and this time, I would love to try the dine in experience.
Here is my feedback: I got the $98 Jumi Signature dinner Scallop in the miso could be more tender. Cherry blosson tofu was very dense, dry, and not for me. Mackerel was very dry. When the mackerel is this dry, the foam and the sauce just could not save the dryness. Braised bamboo shoot with uni had the smallest amount of uni I have ever seen. There wasn t enough uni for the two pieces of bamboo. There should probably have been double the uni to create a balanced dish. Lightly seared wagyu beef did not do justice for the beef as they were three very thin slices, yet it was also slightly tough with not much flavour. The squid in the firefly squid sumiso was great, yet the greens were flavourless and desperately needed more sauce. The 6 piece sushi was good. However, why are the 6 piece sushi not served piece by piece? Throughout the dinner, there were staff behind the counter just standing around. Instead of only serving the premium sushi piece by piece for an additional 30 dollars, the standard 6 pieces should also be served piece by piece, and I find this distinction of service between the types of sushi tiers to frankly be out of place. This place is set up a lot like your classic sushi bar / omakase places. However, there is nothing interesting happening behind the counter. The staff should strive to foster a lively, fun, dynamic and interactive setting, instead of a rather awkward quiet one that I had my dinner in. I found all patrons talking very awkwardly and quietly as the place was quite dull. I will add however, the waitress was kind. I appreciate them trying to honour Japanese tradition and pay homage by serving these luxurious meals to our valued diners with a modern twist , but I would argue this is far from it. I appreciate that they asked for feedback during my dinner, but I felt it was better if I left the constructive criticism here since I did not see any of it when reading reviews before hand. It took the two of us an hour to get through this meal. Having been to Miku, JaBistro, Yasu, Shoushin, Sushi Masaki Saito and others, the experience I had here tonight was far from my expectations. I would be more than happy to revise the review in the future if things are improved upon.
Spring menu was very unique, fresh and delicious!
Great food and amazing service
Saw a tiktok review about Jumi and knew I had to stop by during my vacation in Toronto! The food here is equally as beautiful as it is delicious. The waitress was so attentive and accommodating to the little ones that we brought along, would definitely come back again.
I went to this sushi restaurant on a busy Friday for lunch. They were so accommodating to seat 10 people (definitely made reservations beforehand). So happy there s more North York sushi options to the area. Definitely a contender to become my new favorite sushi place in Toronto beating Project Fish, Miku, and Toro Toro. The aesthetics immaculate and the music vibing. This place is a must go, it was such a fun and amazing experience at Jumi. The food is so beautifully presented on each plate and the sushi melts in your mouth. The server recommended a refreshing cocktail drink (name is escaping me right now) to go with the meal and it paired up really nicely
A luxurious dining experience. I dropped by for lunch and luckily there was no need for reservations during their lunch service. The menu was small with a couple of items; sushi set, aburi set, wagyu don and maybe another set? But I genuinely cannot recall. I came here for the sushi and I did not walk away disappointed. Their lunch set came with the main (which was the nigiri and aburi/pressed sushi in our case), miso soup, sashimi and an ikura salad. The plating was beautiful and everything was delicious. The fish was fresh and there was a nice variety of nigiri with no repeats. For about $50.00 per person this is definitely a splurge. Would I do it again? Yes. Why? Because it FELT like an omakase experience except I get all the sushi at once with extra fixings on the side.
Wifey and I went to Jumi Gozen to celebrate our 7 year anniversary. The staff were incredibly friendly and very attentive. The ingredients were very high quality. Flavours and presentation was amazing. We really enjoyed the experience.
$98 appetizers? Where s the real food?
My friends and I are disappointed in this tasting menu. Let me tell you why. Before we start, the server asked if we want wagyu beef and is extra $35. First, the plating presentation was what got us. The sashimi very fresh and wish it was more. Everything else was good but didnt wow us. My friends and I dont eat pork and we didnt get anything in advance about it. When the wagyu dish comes... it was a disappointment. It was just like a slice of beef served in the udon soup. The price of the tasting menu did not include dessert. Overall, big disappointment. I dont approved it and will not recommend to anyone.
Special experience unlike any other in the GTA. The Gozen concept admittedly is a little foreign to me and honestly its a bit of a gamble as chances are youre not going to find every dish on that tray is a 10/10. But the overall presentation, creativity, and freshness is all there as well as solid service from Dan and team. All of their premium nigiri are top notch and their take out menu is actually a solid value for the quality you get. My favourites from the Gozen menu this time around were the firefly squid and the mackerel confit. The overall experience is going to depend on whether or not you can come in with an open mind. Seeing a lot of reviews talking about the value/portion size boggles my mind. Its not about getting you filled up for cheap, youre paying for the care and thought they put into the menu. Overall theres a lot of potential at Jumi and I suspect the experience will continue to improve as they further refine their menus. Looking forward to coming back in the future
Wife and I visited Jumi for her birthday and the experience was wonderful. The staff were attentive and personable and made sure to check in with us often. We had the latest summer menu and was informed that they update their menu based on whats in season. So as expected, everything is really fresh amd flavourful and will look forward to trying their next offerings.
It wasnt what we expected. The miso was just heavily salted water with sea grass. The salmon on the sushi was not fresh. The wagu was on the big portion of really cold rice and with cold, soft egg. Presentation is also terrible. Nice restaurant concept, but I dont want to see beef being cut and bleeding at front of me. I also dont like it when I sit eating and somebody washing his hands and scraping pans in front of me! Very overpriced. Everything is done for the show, but not for the quality of food and good atmosphere.
Jumi Gozen was an amazing experience from start to finish. We were greeted in a professional manner, were taken to our seats, and from there on we enjoyed every minute of our visit. It was an authentic Japanese dining experience, very reminiscent of a high end Japanese ryokan. The chefs prepare the dishes right in front of you in one of Toronto s cleanest environments, which checked off a very important box for us. The food was absolutely 5 stars, and every bite was delicious. Even though we didn t mention my wife s dietary restrictions beforehand, when we told them a few minutes before service, they were able to make necessary changes although they really did not need to. As mentioned, the food was amazing, with the freshest ingredients cooked to perfection. And throughout the dining experience, the staff, chef, and manager were all very accommodating and helpful. They explained the dishes when we needed the explanations, and served drinks in a wonderful and fun way. This has become a safe go-to place for us when we re craving a taste of Japan, and is much recommended!
Great dining experience, the staff were attentive and took the time to explain the dishes. Unfortunately there is no parking available, you would have to streetpark if youre lucky to find it. There is no retail parking in the condo, the waiter recommended best area to find parking is near the community center pool as there is no no parking signs. So plan ahead if you decide to drive and park. The dining experience about 1.5 hours, which sounds like a decent time however we did feel rushed, especially when youre chatting and taking photos and videos of your meal. To also be fair, we are slow eaters. The seats are bar stool seats, so quite high for a short human like myself. Otherwise I would recommend, its pricey but the quality was there
This place was SO GOOD! Food was beautiful and delicious. You could tell how much thought and detail went into every dish.
Tried their signature gozen menu and their Moments respite and Sake Sangria. Everything was deliscious. I really appreciate the two head chefs Manato and Eaton for their attention to detail and meticulous attitude to ensure every part of the meal is perfect. Manato brings his experience from Jabistro and Eaton from Miku. They are starting a late night experience which I will definitely want to try when it starts!
Presentation on point, flavours for a few of the items were surprisingly delicious even though it came off as a simplistic dish. We finished the night with a uni handroll (so fresh!) And scallop sushi (good price) Downsides: Not every dish was of the same caliber, or at least it didnt come across as such. Parking options are limited to parallel parking, which can be a deterrent but try the nearby park as a backup. Service was very friendly, attentive, very much enjoyed the experience
Amazing food and service
We had an incredible time at Jumi. Very intimate setting with incredible food. The waygu upgrade in the sukiyaki was worth it. Can t wait to try other seasonal menus!
Wow. I had never heard of a Gozen bar before coming to Jumi. I came from the States to try it and I was blown away by the whole experience. I loved being able to watch the chefs prepare the food and seeing how much care and love they put into every part really helped me appreciate my food. I ate slowly and with care because of how much effort the chefs put into each part. I was a little confused and overwhelmed when this large tray of food was placed in front of me. It looked so amazing, I didnt know where to start. Luckily, when I asked, a chef let me know if he was eating the tray he would start with the hot items: the soup and the ribs. Each chef was so kind when I asked a question about different parts of the meal like when we got the otoro handroll from Chef Eaton; he took time to talk to us and ask us what we thought about the meal. I would definitely go back again because wow every single part was phenomenal. Pro tips: yes you want that wagyu, def torched sushi, and if you are confused the chefs and staff are more than happy to answer all your questions. Mine were mostly about those very pointy chopsticks they have and their knives.
Went to Jumi with my wife and was blown away by the quality of sashimi and sukiyaki. It is definitely one of the top experience weve had during our trip to Toronto. The ambiance was great and the staff attentive. On top of the set menu, we also had the Oshi and they were delicious as well! Would definitely come back again.
Had such a great experience here! Servers and chefs were all very friendly and the atmosphere is very nice. The aesthetic is amazin, the food is almost too pretty to eat. The summer menu was great, there wasn t anything that my significant other and I didn t like. In fact, we ordered some extra Aburi since we wanted to try som more! The melon illusion tasted like a boozy melona which was delicious! Would definitely come back again to try a different menu! Highly recommend!!
Great food, service and atmosphere. Perfect for date night
Presentation was nice. Enjoyable cocktails. I wished they lit the sukiyaki at a later time. By the time I got to it. The meat was overcooked.
The good: service, atmosphere, aesthetic and cocktails were wonderful. Team is courteous and professional. The bad: food is just okay. Price is definitely not worth it. I can name a similar style restaurant (main dish and many smaller side dishes) that is less than half the price and almost same level of quality. While some of the items were very interesting taste wise (tiny crab was super fun), nothing blew me out of the water. I think the miso soup was our groups favorite. Additionally, portion size is on the smaller end. If you can eat a fair bit there is a chance you will not be full. Some of the other reviews look like they had the option of adding an extra nigiri set for $ but when I went for dinner there was no option. Take-out menu or perhaps lunch looks nice for sushi/rolls but it didnt seem like we had the option to order more for dinner or if it wasnt mentioned to us. Overall good experience but food is not worth the price.
Very nice plating, unique twist to omakase but not enough sashimi and no dessert included.
Tried both spring and summer menu. Loved it. The team explained what a gozen was and it confuses me why many of the reviews still compare omakase with gozen when they re totally different. I love that they play into the seasons and bring in what s in season. I look forward to their fall menu! Saw a sneak peak on their IG and it looks beautiful. Can t wait!
The restaurants concept of serving both the apps and main all together at once was both exciting and foreign, as some of the hot dishes became cold by the time we ate them. Thoughtful menu, sublime ingredients, stellar presentation and top notch dining service by all the staff. Unique experience.
Delicious!!!! Wow my go to now. So fresh and the quality as well as the packaging. We ordered last week for take out and are as we speak waiting for our order from there now. Only thing I found an issue was the Aburi sushi and the large rolls had WAY to much rice. Still my go to place always for delivery sushi. Perfect
Craving for sashimi, and here we go, a pleasant treat for myself. Highly recommended!
Service is quite slow for lunch, if you only have 1 hour you won t make it. Their miso soup tasted strange, there is no miso paste, only water and seaweed
It is a new open restaurant just a few months. We were there on time and watched them clean & setup tables. There was no reception waiting area. I think it can be arranged a little better. The Fall dinner menu they served was Kaiseki ryori style of food. Most of the dishes were prepared. It was a bit awkward at some points the chefs were watching you eating. There was a self-cook dish but the beef was tough. Overall experience was good and I think there are rooms to improve. We would like to come back to try their lunch menu. Keep up the good work and food!
Everything cold and no taste. And very small portions charge $118 per person. Worst experience ever..
I had the opportunity to try their Fall Jumi Signature Gozen as part of a giveaway. It was an amazing and unique experience, the food and presentation were wonderful. We also tried their lobster sashimi which we saw prepared fresh right in front of us. It was very interesting to watch them intricately prepare each part of the gozen for us. The staff were so kind and friendly to chat with as well! Wonderful service and food!
It was such a unique experience. It was fascinating to see the chef make our food. The food was tasty and presentation was superb! I also enjoyed the cocktails. Staff were all friendly. This place is worth every penny!
Wonderful dining experience and would definitely recommend everyone to come try it! Amazing service with great explanations of each dish. Great sushi with really fresh flavours! Look forward to coming back!
My coworkers and I went here for lunch, and even though I cant eat raw foods, they made it extra special by cooking some cooked food for me. Highly recommended :)
Had lunch here the other day and my whole experience was wonderful from beginning to end! The staff were really kind and helpful. Loved that the chefs explained what each part of the meal was. The fish was so fresh and delicious . I definitely would come again!! Thank you for the yummy food Jumi!
My first time at Jumi was just an extraordinary experience! The food is just amazing! The freshness and quality of the ingredients are top-notch, there is no other way to describe it. The service is also amazing. Servers are very nice and welcoming. I like how they have an open kitchen which also allows you to engage in conversation with the chefs and enjoy the view of them while preparing the food. I will definitely come back here!
Great atmosphere. Staff were very attentive. Food composition was amazing.
We found this little bistro accidentally and based on what we saw on their website, it looked enticing to give it a try. No problem getting a lunch reservation the day before and was seated right away when we arrived. It was all bar seats which we like and the stools were comfortable. The interior decor was modern Japanese with a clean feel. It is comfortable overall. We didn t get serviced until 10-15 mins later, some other customers waited much longer. We saw only 1 waiting staff working and maybe 4-5 kitchen staff on a Sunday afternoon. The prices of the 3 set lunch were reasonable. They offered a 9-pc nigiri, a wagy don and an 8-pc pressed sushi set. All come with a clear soup, a small salad and a 4-pc sashimi appetizer. The portion was reasonable and the presentation was nice. However, we didn t find the fishes market-fresh even though they are not too too bad. The rice from a few of our pressed sushi fell off when picked up. The part we felt could have been done better was - we ordered a 300 ml bottle of Hakurou Kara Honjozo sake, the waiter suggested we drink it hot which is quite unusual. Other than it took a while to get our sake, it came lukewarm and in 2 separate carafes ! We couldn t tell if they were actually the sake from the bottle of the Honjozo we ordered. That was disappointing. Overall the service was reasonably prompt but slow. The price-value ratio was good. Having said all that, we don t mind going back to try their famous Gozen tasting menu. We could only conclude there is room for improvement.
I love this place! Excellent food with a unique experience. Extensive seasonal menu served to a very high standard. Definitely a fantastic eating experience. Its really worth it. They also have a separate menu at the late night bar. It comes highly recommended!!!!
My friend recommended this place to try and it did not disappoint! Really good Japanese food in Toronto. The winter menu was good value compared to other omakase places as we were very full and such a cool experience to see how all the dishes were made
Excellent sushi and fresh ..
First time dining here and won t be the last. The food and staff were exceptional at every course. Making for an amazing overall dining experience. Came in with 3 other friends and we were all very impressed. The Bluefin Tuna Nigiri Flight is a must!
Fantastic dinner! Welcoming, knowledgeable and friendly staff. First Gozen experience, unique and creative. Portraying a seasonal menu carefully curated by the Chefs. *Must enjoy the experience with the Tuna Nigiri Flight. Will definitely come back.
My previous review I just posted was for 2 weeks ago when I came here the very first time. Today, I thought I d give it a try again .this time I tried their lunch specials Nigiri and Oshi sets. Both are very well presented, but I would prefer the fish to be a bit thicker for the Oshi set (torched) so there would be less focus on the rice but rather towards the sumptious conglomeration of fresh fish flavor that is to amplify the sliver of fire exposure
Incredible experience.
Small set lunch menu. Only bar seating available, so you can watch the chefs prepare your meal in front of you.
