Shinobu Sushi is an authentic Japanese restaurant in Toronto. We are proudly serving our valued customers for more than 20 years. We cater to casual gatherings of friends and colleagues over our freshest sushi.
Friendly services and food is fresh and well taken care of. Sushi rice was marinated well.
Trier Shinobu for the 2nd time. This time we did a take out. Food was very good. Had mostly sushis/rolls , 1 eggppant-miso and 1 maitake tempura.
The milk pudding is so good with handmade blueberry sauce. The secret menu—daily special fish is nice quality. The rest of the food I ordered is at averages.
Shinobu, which I revisited after 6 years, was a small and cozy place. It offered high-quality sashimi, sushi, and warm dishes, all enjoyed with good sake. Now, it seems like a place I’ll visit more often.
Premier experience! Wow! The food Shinobu is able to serve out of such a small kitchen and restaurant is truly amazing. I have personally eaten at a number of really nice Japanese restaurants around the city, and Shinobu is at the top of my list. Reservations are highly recommended as the dining room is a bit on the small side. Sushi and entrees were next level that I cannot stop thinking about. The fried sea bass was especially delightful. There was a very nice selection of specials, which I really like. Details down to the garnishes were cut and prepared with painstaking care. There was a piece of cucumber sliced into art. I will return, and if you like Japanese food, you would be remiss if you don't try Shinobu!
Amazing Japanese restaurant, visited this restaurant on a Friday evening and was able to make reservations. Small restaurant and very hard to get a reservation. Food was incredible and very fresh!! Ordered the Sashimi Deluxe, the Sushi Deluxe, seared mackerel sashimi, spicy salmon sushi, lobster roll, pressed salmon sushi. Service was incredible and authentic! Can’t wait to return!
Great authentic Japanese restaurant in North York, Toronto. Lots of locals, only about 8 tables so very small, highly recommended reservations be made. Can also walk in but peak times like weekends it gets very busy. Definitely one out our favourites and always reliable and consistent. Great service too!
We visited recently to share a special occasion and really enjoyed the hospitality and food. The portions were generous and the fish was fresh. There is plenty to choose from both the hot food and raw fish menus. They also have specials that are dependent on seasonal ingredients. Our favourite dishes over the years that have remained consistent since the restaurant has been around include the seared mackerel, miso eggplant, and the hotate dream roll. We definitely ordered a bit too much for two people but no regrets :) We made the decision to order again midway through the meal as we have a habit of wanting to try more at times! This is definitely a great go-to regular spot if you live in the neighborhood and are craving for authentic Japanese food. If you're not from the neighbourhood it is still worth the visit for a hospitable and delicious meal. Best to call ahead to ensure you have a spot. Credit cards accepted.
We had Thali chicken and fish which had the authentic Maharashtra taste Amazing food Food
My favourite sushi spot in Toronto. Service is excellent and fish is always super fresh. Must make a reservation by calling ahead not a large space.
Fantastic hidden gem. The quality of the sushi is very good for the price!
Thrilled to discover our new neighbourhood has such a high-quality, homey Japanese restaurant! My sister and my Japanese brother-in-law were visiting from the States, where they live in a small Southern city without access to a wide variety of Japanese food. My BIL was in absolute heaven we dined in one night and then two nights later ordered take-out so my sis and BIL could get a fix before leaving town. We enjoyed a sake tasting, and my BIL was pleased with the sake options too. The owners and staff are warm and the vibe is laid back and local. There was a table celebrating a birthday, and the birthday boy (elderly man) bought a round of drinks for the whole restaurant and we sang to him. Small dining room, not pretentious, with a fantastic variety of fresh fresh fresh sashimi as well as hot dishes (seared mackerel yum). I have celiac disease so couldn t taste some of the dishes ordered, but high marks were given to everything. The staff was accommodating to my dietary restrictions and served GF tamari. Reservation strongly recommended, at minimum call before you go so you know whether you need to ask for take-out! Dietary restrictions: Gluten
Always the best place to eat sushi. Very friendly staff and incredibly fresh and fine sushi
A hidden gem. Slightly pricy, but authentic Japanese restaurant.
Friendly staff and warm vibe
Own by real japanese people. Looks little old restaurant but tastes so good.
Very good Sushi place in the area. Fish was very fresh and the service was great
This sushi restaurant is an absolute gem! The chefs talent shines through in every bite, ensuring a consistently fresh and delightful experience. The prices are incredibly fair for the quality you receive. You wont find anything like it elsewhere, where they skimp on ingredients. Highly recommend!
Miso soup + Green tea + Lobster and Spider tempura roll + Seaweed salad It was the first time that I ve ever had Japanese food in Toronto and it was amazing, recommending it to everyone. Food
The most amazing sushi, sashimi and rolls! The fish is so fresh and the service is so beautiful! Miako is so kind and friendly, the chef are such experts that you feel as you are having sushi in Japan. This place is irreplaceable!
Truly the best sushi in the city
Wonderful Japanese real real sushi! I eat shishi here every month, and always they serve perfectly.
I don t live near Shinobu, it sometimes take me an hour to get there to pick up. This is the best place for authentic Japanese Sushi in Toronto. Always consistent fair prices and made with love and pride. Its worth the drive. yes its 2023 Shinobu is still just as good as ever and I m sure 2024 will be as great as ever Happy New Year
If I live close by I d come to eat every day :) The foods are very fresh the services are excellent and the atmosphere is amazing of course. Never have disappointment! Food
It is a good place for dinner.
This is by far the best japanese place in a the GTA! Must try the Hotate Dream Roll and pretty much everything!!
Small Japanese restaurant with excellent cuts of fresh seafood. Always satisfied there. A real hidden gem.
Our friends picked this place as they are regular customers. It s Japanese owned and run. We just recently went to Japan and had so much good food that we vowed to not have sup-par Japanese food in Toronto. I did not have any expectation coming to this place. It is a very small restaurant and booking is a must. We ordered most of the items on the recommended menu and some more. The fish was lovely. The yakisoba (stir fried noodles) was delicious and we put in another order after the first. We also ordered the popular aburi saba (seared mackerel). I don t usually like mackerel but this one was so delicious that I had quite a few pieces. The service was friendly in the Japanese way. I felt very comfortable listening to the Japanese conversation in the kitchen. It was a great dinner.
Looks like a family run shop but everything was very tasty and fresh. I especially enjoyed the mackerel and 100% would return
Had the omakase for one tonight. Incredibly fresh fish and amazing selection. My favourite sushi spot in Toronto!
Great value for the amount of food! We got the omakase sashimi and omakase sushi sets for two people, and we could barely finish the food.
Great place. Small and comfortable. Nice owner and staff. Love it.
Best sushi restaurant in the area.
Make sure your ego is in tow when visiting this place of business. The food is divine, the decor is subtle yet elegant, not for your American types. 10/10, enjoy.
Good sushi place. High quality fresh fish and friendly staff. Would come back.
Lovely family-owned business with fresh food and excellent service!
Best sushi Ive had in the city, and in my top 5 outside of Japan. Small, and very friendly place. Cant recommend enough, if you truly appreciate sushi , the quality here will deliver.
Tiny sushi bar with excellent apps, precise technique, and attention to detail. Everything is good so try your favorites. Reservations may be helpful.
Even though weve lived in the neighbourhood for many years and several friends recommended it, this was our first visit to Shinobu. I cant to speak to how authentic the food is but I can tell you that it is fresh and delicious. We had a couple of specials, some tapas, sushi rolls and some sushi and thoroughly enjoyed every dish. It is a small space and always busy so reservations are recommended. Well definitely be going back again. Soon!!!!
This place is just the best sushi restaurant ever in Toronto for me. Taste and service or everything was so authentic!
Authentic Japanese sushi. Fish is handled really well with high consistency.
I went to try out this place when I found myself waiting for an order across the street from the restaurant. I thought I would sit down for a nice quiet dinner instead I was met by the waitress trying to avoid sitting me next to a reserved table which by the way remained unclaimed for most of my dinner. She then came soon after I had finish the main dishes to ask me if I was done and if I wish to be brought the bill. To my horror I looked around and it was half empty and I was hoping to finish my tea. I was going to ask for the bill when I was ready to leave but it wasn t at the time. I enjoyed my salmon sashimi but not so much the spicy salmon roll. Service is poor in my opinion. Not what I d expected. Needless to say I will not be returning. Thank you,
Excellent service, delicious menu and their daily specials are always fresh!
Super duper fresh fish. Coming back 100% Food : 5/5
The food must be sampled. Japanese chef providing delicious Sashimi. Unusual choices. The Uni was exceptional. Food
I will always and forever love this place to point where part of me feels I should share with the world and part of me wants to keep this place a secret! It is hands down the fairest priced sushi youll get but most importantly the quality of the fish is the most consistent Ive seen. All staff are friendly. Definitely family run. Always the same staff. Get their deluxe sushi/sashimi plate and tempura. It will not disappoint. Heres something we ordered for Mothers Day below!
Real Japanese Sushi. Just 5 stars because I can t give more.
Incredible sushi, the quality of fish is one of the bests I ve seen in Toronto, and the sushi portions are extremely generous. Staff is also very attentive and kind- I cannot recommend this place highly enough- definitely will come back soon again!
What a hidden gem! Can t believe I only came here now quality fish with fair prices! Standout dishes: SEARED MACKEREL SASHIMI, CHICKEN TEMPURA, SUPREME SASHIMI.
Shinobu is by far our familys favorite Japanese restaurant. Its not pretentious or fancy, but good traditional Japanese food that we can enjoy without having to travel to Japan. The staff has always been wonderful and makes some of the best classical dishes out there. Standouts are the shimesaba, and the toriten nanban (chicken). They also have rotating fresh fish from Japan and other places so check in regularly. Word of warning, reserve before you go and early. Almost impossible to get a walk in.
i was trying to look up an anime character, never went there but seems like a good place
This is an absolute go to for high quality sushi. The restaurant is tiny so a reservation is a must if you want to dine in but they also offer takeout.
Enjoyed our experience here. It s authentic and reminded us of Japan
We love Shinobu for takeout or dine in. I am always warmly welcomed. Everything is always delicious and fresh. The torch pressed sushi is one of our top favourites. My kids love the chicken tempura and the udon noodles. Everything from the eggplant to stuffed lotus root are all so good and unique dishes. Other rolls that are my go to are negihama and otoro roll. Drooling writing this.
I come here at least once a month, and always super consistent. Great food, great chefs...if you want good, great quality, casual setting & traditional sushi, this is the place to go
Wow. Hidden gem. Superb quality, relaxed, classy, great service. The food is the star.
Always overall good and best!
Finally reopened for dine in. Still great food
Great sushi restaurant thats actually run by Japanese people. The fish and ingredients are fresh and deliciously made. Despite small seating area, it is quite nice and comfortable. Reasonably priced. Would recommend
I think this may be the best Japanese restaurant we ve been to in awhile! Be sure to make a reservation, there are limited tables and it fills up quick. Service was fast and friendly despite the fact that there was only one server for the whole restaurant. The highlight of this visit however was the food. The aren t lying when they say it s authentic Japanese food! We got the seared mackerel sashimi, broccoli with sesame sauce (not pictured), octopus karaage, hotate roll, fried eggplant with miso sauce, and pressed salmon sushi. Everything was fresh, delicious, and authentic. While the portions were small, it was filling. They have a good selection of drinks, especially Japanese sake. Will definitely back to try out the other items on the menu.
Love this place, super authentic Japanese restaurant! Generous portion sizes, great service and good food.
If youre used to premium quality fish, this place will disappoint. Also, I am almost certain that there was no rice vinegar on their sushi which was odd. The decor is also outdated and their old wooden half broken furniture needs to go! Overall I would not recommend it, but their apps were actually not too bad.
Very kind waitress and AMAZING food. If I had enough money (and stomach space) id order 1 of everything on the menu! Kid-friendliness: Its a small place but kids can eat here. Though if they are screaming it would disrupt the other customers easily as it is a tiny location.
Great value
Fantastic sushi served by some if the nicest people.
Small and only open for 3 hours but the quality is on point! Great little find for sushi.
Toro rolls are excellent!
Excellent sushi restaurant. We are customers for years. The meals are top notch quality. Not a large menu but tasty and consistent. Prompt and nice service. The place itself is very small so reserve ahead. The decor is simple and unpretentious, similar to small sushi shops in Japan. They do takeouts too.
Awesome service and great little place very friendly staff
Tasty selections and reasonable prices
Arrived 15 minutes earlier then expected and my food was already sitting there meaning it would have sat there for 15 more if I had arrived on time and who knows how long ago it had been prepped. Food was good only place for improvement is their ordering and distribution of orders process.
very tasty and family friendly
This is a gem for authentic, high quality sushi and Japanese fare. I always have a great meal. A true taste of Japan in Toronto.
I had an exellent takeout experience for my family birthday. I usually do not eat mackerel sashimi or sushi because not many place does it neither fresh nor well to get ride of fishy smell. But after reading reviews for this place, I decided to try. It was excellent. Their premium menus were excellent. Great quality, fresh and delicious. Very generous portion as well. Will be coming back to try other menu items.
Weve been taking out from Shinobu Sushi Restaurant since the pandemic. We enjoyed the authentic Japanese sushi dinner. Portion of food had been very generous, and fish were very fresh. Last two week I ordered more than I usually ordered. The restaurant forgot to give me the California roll that came with the nigiri set. I knew it was just an oversight. However I felt I should let them know so it wouldnt happen to other customers so I left a message to inform them. I didnt expect Shinobu to call me back. However they made an effort to call me to apologize. This Sunday I ordered quite a bit because I invited guests over. Shinobu made an effort to give me the missed California Roll as well as a special roll made of BBQ eels and Avocado. Thank you for the effort. I would totally recommend Shinobu Sushi Restaurant on Yonge Street.
Good good good Food is good. Price is honest. Owner is thoughtful. One of my favorite places to eat.
I have been serving this small Japanese shop for several years. The place is small and the waiters are enthusiastic but not professional. However, the food is of a very high standard! The average consumption is $70 per person, a great value!
The food is unreal. Head chef is amazing. I suggest you just let them cook for you and see what lands on your plate. The dishes created are like no other. Extremely fresh and beyond delicious. Highly recommend.
Great food and Excellent service
So delicious Sushi! Authentic Japanese food, strongly recommend! Although the price is a little bit higher than other Sushi nearby, it deserves the price! Very authentic Japanese sushi, the first bite is like returning to Japan! Although the price is slightly more expensive than surrounding sushi, you will find that its quality completely exceeds the slightly more expensive price. Highly recommend their tempura and lobster sushi...
This is a sushi restaurant made by Japanese people. I think you will be more satisfied if you have lived in Japan. The taste is comparable to famous local sushi restaurants in Japan and the price is reasonable.
Fresh seafood, excellent food, no gimmick and without any excessive and useless display.
Excellent food, quality sushi. The restaurant is very small, reservation is needed.
It was delicious here
Nice authentic food. They could work on their ambience :-) Nice people
First time coming here, the maki rolls and sashimi are amazing and the price is amazing.
Fresh, fresh, fresh! True Japanese experience in the heart of Lawrence Village, mid-town Toronto. Call for reservations if your party is large since the place is very small and they will accommodate. Go with the chefs suggestions for sure! Parking is on the street and limited
One of our favorite places for a private and cozy sushi dinner! This place always has great service and fresh food. Highly recommend getting their sashimi dinner option. Check it out if you are ever in this neighborhood.
Outstanding sushi in a small sushi restaurant that appears unassuming but that hits a homerun in both food quality and service. My wife tried the plum wine (Choya) on the rocks and i had green tea. We started with Mackerel fillet that the server seated with a mini-blow torch at the table. Absolutely out of this world! Followed that with Volcano roll (also seared at the table, very cool) and a spicy salmon roll. Final plates were the sweet potato roll and the Nagasema roll. Each roll was perfectly prepared with very fresh fish. We plan to return, possibly even this week, our primo sushi restaurant without a doubt! Jerry Lerman
Small sushi shop and need to call in advance for resos - difficult for walk-ins esp. during the summer. Relative to other top GTA sushi locations (including fancy omakases!), Shinobu stacks up against the best of them on value. Check for their daily specials on the black board. Chutoro nigiri and blue fine tuna roll are a must. Super friendly owner and staff. Hidden gem for a long time. MAKE IT A SHINOBU NIGHT NOW!
Absolutely amazing food and service.
I m not sure why this restuarant has so much hype. Agedashi tofu was ok ( kinka s has a limited special on that and it was better) chutoro sushi (2 pcs, 13$) was sinewy and very cold inside like it came straight out of a fridge, matsu sushi was the same ( even the tamagoyaki though was impressively large tasted icy on the inside and was alot more salty than sweet). The flounder tempura was overcooked and very dry when I bit into it, and for 13$ for a plain bowl of udon with no other toppings I d expect more than something from a frozen package. In the end nobody asked me how everything was. I get it that they give big sushi portions as a value proposition but for over 100$ incl tax and tip with the cheaper alchohol option there are places where the quality and preparation is a lot better.
This is a review for takeout To get the stuffed lotus root ($9.50) or not? These deep-fried pieces of earthy lotus root sandwiching a savoury pork paste are heavenly straight from the fryer. But would they be nearly as good after sitting in a box for 15 minutes? While the crunchiness was stunted, the texture was still there, and the starter was just as juicy as having at the restaurant. So much so, that I forgot to take a picture before we dove in you ll just have to trust me on this one. Similarly, the tempura in the double shrimp cannon roll ($13.50) held up very well and the lettuce didn t wilt terribly while sitting covered. The maki still delivered that lovely bomb of flavours and textures (is that why it s called a cannon roll?), no regular dynamite roll can compare. A safe choice is the spicy tuna roll ($8.50), which resembles what we d have at the restaurant. And unlike our previous delivery experience from Kibo Sushi House, there wasn t a crumb of tempura batter. At Shinobu, their spicy tuna roll actually incorporates fish what a novel thought. The one dish that wasn t as impressive was the pressed salmon sushi ($17.50). The kewpie and jalapeno paste (?) topping the fish was just too much; perhaps it really sinks into the salmon on the ride home. Luckily, it s an easy problem to solve we remove half of it and we continued our merry way. Having a hankering for fresh fish but not wanting sashimi, we ordered the seafood donburi ($24). It was exactly what we needed incorporating so many different slices of fish, octopus, eel, two thick pieces of tamago (egg omelette) and even a spoon of spicy salmon. If you need a variety, donburi bowls are the way to go! Why did it take me so long to try one of these?
Take out only for now. Parking on the Street available. Very satisfied with the Sushi and Tempura. Fresh and well prepared.
LOVE THIS PLACE! Shinobu has been my familys go-to sushi spot for probably almost as long as theyve been open. The staff know us so theyre extra friendly. My dad wont eat sushi from anywhere else. Their salmon in particular is just perfect. My favourite rolls are the Hotate Dream Roll and the Volcano Rainbow Roll. Their seaweed salad is not the same one as every other sushi place, its more substantial and fresh tasting. The Maitake Mushroom Tempura is junky but soooo yummy, and holds up decently well as take-out. Their other non-sushi Japanese dishes are all super authentic. Its pricier than your typical sushi place but in my opinion its worth it!!!
Shinobu is my favorite neighbourhood Japanese restaurant. Their Omasake menu, which you have to ordered at least a day ahead, is one of the best value in town. The quality of their food is comparable to fine japanese dining restaurant like Zen ,but their price is considerably less. They also have a very nice selection of appertizers and what they called tapas from the Kitchen that are absolutely delicious Our favroties are the grilled squid, fried eggplant, spicy shrimp tempura and the seared mackerel. Just yummy! The deco is very simple but service is great. The place is very small so make sure you call ahead to reserve a table ahead of time. Highly recommended.
ordered kaisendon and chicken nanban. good food, but small portions and pricey. extremely small venue so make a reservation. friendly staff.
Consistent quality. The place to go to for sushi in the Yonge Lawrence area.
Amazing
Food is ok, but hard to get their attention
My go-to sushi resto! Their shimesaba is a must try (seared mackerel in sweetened soy sauce). An authentic and cozy spot for true sushi lovers.
Cant give this place enough praise. Friendly staff, quick service, warm atmosphere, and great food. I am here with my wife a few times each year and theres something about this place that draws us back every time. Food tastes fresh. Crispy food is crispy. Cooked seafood is never chewy. Sushi is great! Always try to save space for dessert!
The restaurant is operating by Japanese. So, the taste and style of the foods are authentic. We ordered salmon pressed, sashimi tray and fried squid tentacles (in the menu, it is fried squid legs). The foods were great in term of quality and freshness. However, the price were a little bit higher than the ones operating by Chinese. The hot green tea was good too. By overall, I think the price is reasonable for what I had.
We are not connoisseurs of sushi or other Japanese food but are planning a trip to Japan in the fall and wanted to experience Japanese food in Toronto. We had read very good things about shinobu and wanted to try it for ourselves, partly because it is near where we live and there arent many interesting restaurants in the neighborhood. Its very unassuming inside but the service and food were all delicious. The seared mackerel , tempura mushrooms and broccoli with Sesame paste - a special - were all great. We will definitely be back!
One of the best NON-all-you-can-eat sushi restaurant Ive been to! My wife and I very much enjoyed the great quality of food and service by staffs. Yes, some people may find it a bit costly, but the experience was worth every buck. We would definitely go there again when back in Toronto.
This is an extremely popular sushi joint in the midtown area serving fresh, high quality sushi and traditional Japanese dishes. Other than the sushi /grilled fish dishes, the namban fried chicken is a must try. Reservations is also highly recommended.
its my go to place. never disappoints. seating is limited, service is excellent. make sure you make reservations
Must have a reservation. It is a small place. A Japanese restaurant owned by real Japanese serving good food for a decent price. My favourites are salmon yukke and blow torched mackerel.
Great little sushi spot that was recommended to me by a client. Delicious specials, the freshest fish and great value for the price. An authentic sushi experience. Usually we get take out, but we have ate in and the service is excellent.
Best authentic Japanese in the area
I have had sushi all over the city and this is the best combination of fresh fish and authentic service yet. I cant believe it took me this long to find it. Probably because of the street front signage. It looks like just another pop up sushi place. It isnt. 5 stars.
Best in town...
Tiny place. Resos recommended. A hand written menu hanging in front of the kitchen shows the rotating menu of fresh fish. We had the omakase which youll need to call in advance for. The toro and seared duck breast were the highlights.
Omakase was yummy. Service is perfect. Asahi beer in origginal glass
Great service. Awesome food. The sushi and sashimi were really fresh. The appetizers were also enjoyable especially the eggplant and the potk roll with shishito peppers. Would definitely go again.
I have been going to this little Japanese restaurant probably for a decade at least twice a year. They are always friendly and food is amazing. I never skip Omakase sushi (chefs choice). It is traditional Japanese style sushi which I crave all the time. They also serve westernized rolls as well. They have great selection of authentic side dishes. My recommendation is to make a reservation in advance since seats are limited and always packed.
Very fresh and tasty fish! 100% would recommend
How was the food? The sushi here is good I have to say. Probably one of the better ones I ve tasted in Toronto. However, since I am always comparing to the sushi from Japan, I still cannot be content by it. the price was a little too pricy for me to be able to accept it, but I guess good sushi is not cheap so I don t really wanna complain about that. Their sashimi was really good, I enjoyed the sashimi a lot. For sushi, I think maybe they need more work on their rice (it s already good, I am just thinking about what I would like more) Overall, I d say I had a pretty good experience here, and I would recommend this shop to people looking for good tasting sushi and sashimi. Would I recommend? Yes
I come here all the time with my family whenever we want some good authentic sushi. It s a cute little restaurant with high quality output. Their rolls are among the best I ve had (hotate dream roll is one of my favourites) and their omakase is not super expensive but a great experience. Definitely recommend!
Wow! This is one of the best-valued sushi restaurants in Toronto. Quality of foods and customer service are top-notch. Truly impressed!
This is the best Japanese food Ive tried. Fresh fish, great service, not a huge place, thus you dont feel crowded. The dishes are small and cost not that much, which give you the opportunity to try a lot of things. Amazing! Will certainly come back!
Good Quality Japanese with small set up. However, the interiors can be improved to enhance overall eating experience.
Try the baked oysters theyre one of the tastiest dishes of ever had. Ive reviewed this restaurant before and gave it a 4 because of lack of parking and its so small but I decided thats not good enough reason not to give it a five because the service and food is great. in the sample pictures theres an interior shot however it is not of shinobu I do not know what restaurant is. I also recommended the dream role and the volcano roll. But make sure you try those baked oysters
This place is a pleasant surprise in the neighborhood. Everything we ordered was great! Sashimi was very fresh, and the appetizers were all delicious and special. Also everything is no expensive. Definitely a place of great value! The burdock stick was my favourite. It s got great flavour and texture. The chawan moshi was awesome too. The wasabi they use was mediocre though. But it s not a place at a price range where high end wasabi should be expected.
I like this place. Its not a big place but they got good taste and nice stuff.
If you are looking for great japanese food, this is the place to be. Its ran by japanese. Its a small restaurant (12-13 tables) so make sure you make a reservation - they rarely take a walk in because its almost always full. Also remember to check out the specials on the blackboard when you are there.
The mushroom tempura and calamari tempura that I had were oily and tasteless. The salmon pressed sushi was just so-so. Out of the 4 dishes that I ordered, only the Nanban fried chicken was satisfactory. And the sake list was pathetic too. Cant understand why this place received so many positive reviews.
This place is the one of best sushi places in Toronto. The price of food is little expensive but I think reasonable because of their excellent service and food. However the place is really small with 5-6 tables so if you plan to visit make sure to make a reservation ahead. I saw several groups who had to leave because all tables were reserved.
Always great food
Authentic Japanese cuisine. Great service. The low hanging curtain at the front door might brush your head if youre 55 or taller.
One of the best sushi restaurant in Toronto. Food quality is on par with restaurants that cost 3 to 4 time more. No fancy gimmick or exotic ingredients, just fantastic sushi. I drive 40min each way just to have sushi here.
Sushi was delicious. Hen of the woods mushroom tempura was insanely good same with fried halibut. Service was great also.
My girlfriend and I love our food and It was easy to tell the ingredients were super fresh, just be ready to pay up as it is expensive
My favourite japanese restaurant in Toronto. No bs, just good food.
Maitaki Mushroom Tempura is the best tempura I have ever tried. Blue fin is always on my must-eat-list. So nice oily and rich in flavour!
I rarely give a place 5 stars but they deserve it. I was introduced to this place by my husband on one of our first dates over 5 years ago. It is such hole in a wall kind of place it is really easy to pass by. Very non assuming. The food is always fresh and quality is so good. This is one of the places where I feel safe eating raw sweet shrimp. It is not run of the mill Korean or Chinese run Japanese places. The price reflects that but I find it completely reasonable for what I got. However price is not super high either. We always got some sushi, rolls and something off the menu on the chalk board. Never had single thing we did not like. Very few tables so reservations are a must. One of those places that seems like will never change in a good way.
Great sush
Staff is very friendly. Food is amazing.
After living five years in Tokyo, Im always looking for amazing places like this; places that not only remind me of my Japanese home but also have the simple QUALITY that reflects the Japanese tradition and commitment to excellence. If you want cheap, fishy sushi, dont come here. If you want chicken teriyaki drenched in goop, go somewhere else. In fact, the menu here is mostly just fish... And boy oh boy, is it delicious fish! Items that you simply couldnt trust elsewhere because they wouldnt move enough to stay fresh, can be enjoyed here without trepidation. So grab your date or grab your grandmother and make a reservation. Be sure to get their recommendation for a little sake and a big bottle of beer... And get comfortable for a food experience to remember.
Best sushi in North York hands down. Dont hesitate to give this place a try. Excellent service and authentic food. If only they had more seats!
One of the best Japanese restaurants I ever been in Toronto. Staff were very friendly and food was delicious. Keep in mind the following: 1. Place is small, so it fills up quickly 2. You have to book a table during pick hours.
Small, welcoming and relaxing atmosphere. Impeccably fresh and authentic sushi, sashimi, robata and specialties prepared by itamae Susumu Wada and staff. Highly recommended.
The only authentic Japanese sushi restaurant in the city. Once you eat here, you will not go anywhere else. They know the source of all their ingredients and are truly dedicated to quality.
Great little restaurant. Authentic Japanese. Very limited seating. Parking is a challenge on Yonge Street, but worth the try. They have great tasting & fresh salads. A must try.
Great
We ordered a few dishes to pick up, very nice service over the phone. Couple of rolls were oily and salty, spicy shrimp was good and the sashimi good as well. Was expecting much better because of the reviews but just my personal opinion it wasn t that special.
Great, fresh sushi. And they serve expensive sushi that arent typically part of generic sushi combos (fish eggs for example). Great location as well- Yonge and Lawrence, so you can go for a nice stroll on yonge and check out all the cute ma and pop stores. The restaurant itself however was super small, and the table beside us could hear my entire conversation.
Liked the sushi but overpriced for such a small and simple venue. Service is great
Just give it a try and you wont regret. Great food/fish all around. Probably my top 3 sushi spot in GTA. Besides it wont hurt your wallet as much as other high end sushi restaurants. The only maybe downside is the restaurant is rather small so its best to make reservation before you come.
Awesome Japanese food & service
One of the best sashimi spots in Toronto. Whatever you order, you will enjoy. Amazing food. Top shelf quality. Yes, you should go. But you should also make reservations. Its a cozy small spot. Tables fill up.
Absolutely delicious. Authentic with amazing cocktails! Cant wait to go back.
Had such an amazing sashimi dinner here. Their miso soup was perfectly seasoned; not too salty. Otoro was fresh enough to eat without dipping or garnish, had barely any fishy taste, and melted in my mouth. Reminded me of when I had it in Osaka! The seared sashimi were definite highlights. Octopus even had a smoky flavour, and was unbelievably tender. The bowl of sushi rice that came with the sashimi assortment had very plump grains, cooked to al dente, seasoned subtly. Highly recommend!
Delicious authentic Japanese fare.
Outstanding food without a doubt, and the staff is great But just one thing .. if you are sensitive to smells, there is the tight crisp smell of mothballs covering up sewage. We got used to it, but it was a little difficult to really enjoy the meal.
Good place, great service. I will definitely come back. We have octopus which was grilled to perfection, salat with beef, and sushi (fresh, tasty)
