Jungsoonae is a family-owned authentic Korean restaurant. Our signature dishes are the popular soy sauce raw crabs (간장게장) & spicy sauce raw crabs (양념게장).
I recently got together with foodie friends over a good Korean meal at JungSooNae, near Yonge and Finch. It's a small family-run restaurant that was quite busy while we were there. We had come here to try one of their specialties, GanJang Ge-Jang, aka Raw Marinated Crabs. This dish has blue crabs marinated in a house special sauce and served raw. Yes, raw! Opinions were mixed, with some liking it and others undecided. I didn't try it due to an allergy that's been acting up lately. Other dishes included the always popular Pork Bone Soup, Bulgogi, Bossam, Seafood Pancake, a Cold Noodle Soup with Kimchi, and of course, all the delicious side dishes (kimchi, bean sprouts, purple rice, etc.) that come with it. Overall, it was good dinner and it's always good to dine with friends! Until next time...
Hurry up! You need to come here and get an order of their raw marinated crab, which is so fresh I felt like it was going to scuttle away. Dressed with a slightly sweet and umami-packed soy sauce, it compliments the rich and creamy head butter that's the most indulgent part of the bite, where a bowl of rice is absolutely necessary. For the pork bone stew, pork pieces were leaner, yet the meat wasn't dry. Quite springy and had a distinct porky aroma. Soup was more savory and had tons of depth of flavour. Smaller chunks of potatoes, with cabbage inside. 3-4 pork pieces inside. The soup also came bubbling hot, and overall the broth was above average.
Lovely place and staff. The marinated crabs were very tasty and panchan was good as well. Not sure why others said they don’t get refilled - the staff kept checking on us and refilling panchan without us asking. Other dishes are okay, and the price is a bit higher than other Korean places.
Very traditional homey Korean restaurant with delicious raw marinated crabs, although everything is a bit overpriced. Have been here two times, and really appreciate the family that runs this business due to their hospitality. Got the raw marinated crabs in soy sauce ($27), pork bone soup ($18), and pollock soup ($20). They were all fairly delicious and what I'm used to. I think the prices are exorbitant, but they are one of the only restaurants in the GTA that sell raw marinated crabs (so maybe they get to determine the market?). All in all, I'd highly recommend giving the raw marinated crabs a try. They're very unique and flavorful (although a bit salty and small).
I came because of the hype and wanted to try the raw crab. Food was alright. I found the crab is too small. The fish was kinda chewy. Service is ok. The restaurant is not clean looking. But it’s very busy considering how hard it is to find a place to park. We found a paid parking lot across the street. I’ll say most of customers here are regular. Did I mention that it was overpriced? Yes it is definitely some place you can check out of curiosity. But after that, to come back or not, it’s up to you to decide. I know I won’t.
Came here for dinner around 8pm. We came especially for their marinated raw crabs with soy sauce. They are known for this dish in the area. Almost all the other guests at the resto ordered the crab dish, either to share or one for each person! We also ordered the bossam pork belly dish. Everything was good. Lots of side dishes and good variety. The crabs were very creamy, a little on the saltier side, maybe can try their marinated crab with spicy sauce next time. Overall it was a good, fulfilling dinner. There's a paid parking lot at the finch subway station. It's only a short 5 min walk from the restaurant.
Definitely not worth the hype. Everything on the menu is overpriced because of the location. Raw crab was over marinated so it was too salty. Army stew was missing ingredients and way too expensive. Seafood pancake was okay. Service was good. No parking except a Green P lot nearby.
-Marinated crab: 5/5 -table stir fry squid and veg: 3/5 - seafood and tofu soup: 4/5 Overall great experience and authentic food. I personally don’t like the marinated crab but my husband loves it. The table stir fry just contains beans sprout and few squid and costs $50…. It’s tasty but way too expensive. VERY GOOD SIDE DISHES! Love the potato and their kimchi! Store is small but cozy. Service is fine.
Great place to go for a traditional home style Korean dinner.
We came here for the marinated crab. It was definitely delicious . The servers were very attentive and help us cut the crabs because we werent great at breaking them, constantly refilling are waters when it was low and quick to service when we needed anything at all . Also for those driving there is a close parking nearby beside the Green P parking just south of the restaurant on yonge after 7 pm on the weekdays its $3 till 7am.
Came here specifically for the raw marinated crab. Few Korean restaurants offer this and even when they do, they often don t include the crab heads, which taste delicious when mixed with rice. Other restaurants that offer raw marinated crabs charge about $50-60 for a set so $30 is already a good price. Blue crabs are used to make raw marinated crab dishes, which are supposed to be smaller than regular crabs. This is a small family-owned restaurant conveniently close to the subway station. The owners were very friendly and cute and the service was amazing. They offered to cut the crab into smaller pieces when they noticed us struggling to eat the crab, and handed us wet wipes when they saw us get sauce on our clothes. It was a great experience and I would recommend anyone to try it out!
crab soo goood
Food is great!
smal cozy authentic korean food. korean staffs so cute and sweet
Thank you for selling crab... . I almost cried while eating it.
This is my go-to for raw marinated crabs. It s around $26 for 2 marinated crabs, so I do wish the portions could be a little bit bigger as the crabs are quite small. The service and atmosphere is great, the staff are a bit on the older side, but they were super patient in addressing and explaining the questions that I had. I also ordered the Gamtang JeonGol and bulgogi which were delicious as well.
Soy Sauce Crab This restaurant is really unbeatable
We went as bunch of a group. The food was good, but the service attitude was so rude. Even though we couldnt speak Korean, the staff kept talking to us in Korean. When we placed our order, they made a displeased face. Perhaps because the amount we ordered was small for the number of people, they rudely asked if we werent going to order more. They never checked on us during the meal, but they served the other Korean customers with smiles and talk to them a completely different attitude. Some customers even came in and left in restaurant , and the staff never smiled once while serving us. When we called them, they didn t even make eye contact and they look lazy. It made us feel discriminate We were so disappointed the service. What we did to you?
Think twice before eating this raw crab, Im Asian and eating raw seafood is not something strange to us, but to be honest this marinated crab has a weird taste. It s weird sweet and sticky, I don t know how to explain it correctly but it s not easy to eat, specially for ppl who don t eat raw food often (I ordered both the original marinated crab and the spicy marinated crab). I don t say it s the restaurant s fault, maybe it s how the crab tastes. But I will never be back for this marinated crab in my life
I recently dined at a Korean restaurant with my colleagues to welcome a colleague visiting from Portugal, and we had a fantastic experience. The atmosphere was lively, and despite it being almost a full house when we arrived, we felt very welcomed. The excellent food seemed to be a big draw for many people. We ordered seafood pancake, pork bone soup, bulgogi, and pork cutlets. Each dish was incredibly delicious, excellently flavored, and had a mild spiciness that we all enjoyed. We finished every bite and then relaxed for another half hour. As we left, the staff bid us goodbye warmly. We will definitely be returning soon!
I had a great time eating cold noodles.
Raw crabs were small but expected. Very tasty. Good food, good side dishes. Very busy.
Definitely feels like an authentic family run restaurant, with lots of side dishes! We got the seasonal kongguksu and marinated crab which both were great
Authentic Korean food! The food was amazing, a lot of older Koreans dined here as well and that s when you know the food is authentic. The Korean crab was the perfect amount of spicy and the side dishes were plentiful and homemade. Will visit again to try soy marinated crab
Food was really mediocre and pricey for the quality and quantity. Only 2 small pieces of marinated crabs for $27 that dont contain much roe or meat....the soup dishes didnt seem to come with bowls of rice either. On the pricier side compared to other Korean restaurants.
The service is very poor. The staff practically throw the food onto the table, making me feel like Im not even paying for it. They dont communicate with the customers at all.
Good food, first time trying raw marinated crab and it was enjoyable even for someone whos not crazy about crab like me. The seafood pancake was great in between the crab and the side plates were a good palate cleanser. Overall left feeling full but not bloated, solid overall experience!
Raw marinated crab was a bit salty but still very delicious! Came with lots of sides and a bowl of rice. The hot pot was okay, next time I would just come back for the crabs! Owners are super friendly and sweet!!
Ordered the marinated soft shell crab. It was so salty!! 2 small crabs with hardly any meat for $30+tax. The small dishes were pretty good though. Accepts credit card
Heard many things about this place, especially about their raw marinated crabs during the hype. Unfortunately, when we came here to try the crabs it probably wasn t crab season or something because the crabs were pretty small and didn t really have much meat in them, however, the flavour was good. We also got 3 different types of soup and their seafood pancakes, they were all pretty good. The restaurant overall felt very homey and it felt like we were eating in an authentic Korean restaurant like the ones you see in k-dramas! Worth giving this place a try if you ve never been but maybe wait for crab season if you mainly want to try their crabs!
Drove about 45mins to try this place and food was mediocre; also overpriced (i guess due to the location). Raw marinated crab was quite fishy and marinade didnt taste like there was anything in it but chili paste. Pork bone soup wasnt the best. Server also seemed like they were always in a rush (there were only 2 tables at the time) . I dont think well be back...
A friend of mine who lives here while traveling from Vancouver to Toronto told me about this restaurant and it was really delicious. Wherever you go these days, youll find Korean restaurants that are all salty, sweet, and seasoned, but this restaurant was delicious to my taste^^ I recommend the soy sauce crab sauce and stir-fried octopus
This place is a family style restaurant and got served by a Korean auntie and uncle. They are so nice and they can speak Korean, mandarin and English. Ordered the Budae Jigae, seafood pajeon, soy sauce marinated crabs and a stir fried beef. These dishes also came with traditional Korean appetisers and rice. The Budae jigae could serve 4 and it came with a good portion of tofu, spam and sausages. The seafood pajeon was more eggy and less fried and crispy like other restaurants. There s good amount of squid in each piece of the pajeon. The stir fried beef was very tender and had rich sauce. The marinated crab was very authentic, each portion comes with two crabs. The meat was very creamy and well marinated. However I would warn those with a sensitive guts to be prepared if you re having the marinated crab!
My lomg time favorite authentic homestyle Korean food restaurant. Some items are noticeably overpriced, but overall fine. Food
I always go back to have GamJaTang..it is my absolute favorite dish and omg the Kimchii and beans sprouts sooo muchh gooddd...the staff is super friendly and cute. I did try the spicy marinated crabs (though Im not a seafood fan) I loved it..you dont taste the rawness of the crab its sweet and spicy and sooo good.. I would really recommend to try it once.
The food was mediocre came for the marinated crab I got both of them soy and spicy and it was highly disappointing just like the side dishes and it was really little servings but the service is what really made me make this review. First of all the server was not attentive at all I kept having to ask for basic things, I asked for water she brought the whole jug over and put it there but with no cup! Waited again to ask for a cup. After almost being done eating I went to the bathroom and I came back to everything gone from my table except my rice bowl, what if I wasn t done? I wasn t going to tip as tips are not obligatory it s for good service. When I didn t tip she said the price didn t include tip, you didn t tip and in Canada you have to tip and was hounding me to. What a joke. All in all I would not recommend this place to anyone. Would not come back.
Korean restaurant
I drove 2 hours just for the crab. Sometimes it s too salty.
Completely unpretentious and totally delicious. Had the spicy raw crab and soft tofu soup. Both dishes were excellent. But the crab is the stand out - never seen it anywhere but here and it was absolutely amazing. Prices are very fair. Was about $35-$40 per person including booze tax and tip.
It is a beautiful place with consistent taste and friendly service from the owner.
Terrible customer service, the marinated crab was so bad. We ordered soy marinated crab and spicy one, and the crabs were so hard (stiff) to eat. when we went to the one in Steeles the crab was perfect to eat, so i would recommend you to go Jungsoonae Steeles. Even the seafood pancake was so much better in there. As a service, the server (old lady) ignored us couple times, except when she was giving us the bill. So much more terrible experiences in 30 mins, but Ill just stop talking about it. We really dont like wasting foods, but we had to leave all the foods because the server kept mumbling herself when we asked for the to-go box, and we lost all the appetites.
If you re already in Toronto, go to Comma downtown for better raw marinated crabs. There isn t much meat on these crabs and it felt very sandy. Each was $20+. The spicy sauce lacked depth and the soy was way too salty. The side dishes are good but there are better Korean restaurants around Yonge and Finch. Service is kind of snarky, we paid in cash and an employee came up and commented on how much tip we left at the table.
As a korean, I was craving raw marinated crab haven t had them in years, luckily i found this spot on social media decided to give it a go. So to start off they give you 4-5 side dishes for free, but quality was really bad. Each dish tasted like it was expired, and I am korean so i am aware that some Korean dish suppose to be marinated over time but no in this case it tastes really sour like it was expired. Ordered kimchi soup and crabs, soup was really bad 1/10 the crabs were the best thing here id give it 6.5/10 for spicy and 7/10 for soy crab. Also keep in mind there is no parking in the vicinity.
We got the bulgogi hotpot and it wasnt my favourite. The bulgogi is precooked, so in the hotpot it gets overcooked and tough. The soup broth isnt that flavourful and is on the sweeter side (if youre a fan of that). Efficient service but as soon as you finish eating they just bring you the bill even if its not busy. Overall: 3/5
This is my first time eating at this restaurant, and we tried the Raw marinated crab besides the other dishes that we ordered. It was my first time eating Raw Marinated Crabs and my impression to eating it is good, because I did not know that we could raw crab and especially marinated. They only have 2 options for the raw crab and these 2 were good flavours. We had the Ganjang Gejang (soy sauce flavour) and Yangnyeom Gejang (spicy flavour). I honestly prefer Yangnyeom Gejang than Ganjang Gejang, because the soy sauce flavour is a little strong but it compliments the raw crab in a way, with its sweetness. While Yangnyeom Gejang, I dont mind that it is spicy but sweet, which I like. Additionally, we ordered Gamjatang, Kimchi Jeyuk Bokkeum and Deonjang Jjigae. They were all so good, and flavourful as well. Also, they give a good amount of side dishes and they fill it up if you finish a side dish. As for the place, its so cozy and homey when you enter, the place is not that big but I am amazed as to how they arranged everything so everything will fit.
This place use to be a homely family restaurant but it sure has changed over the years. I can confirm with everyone else that the owners and workers are rude. No point of supporting a place like this with your hard earned money.
Great place for Korean food and lovely space to meet up and chat with friends! Loved the spicy marinated crab!
I only ever get the gejang (soy marinated crabs, and spicy marinated crab) from this place and I always order online. Im so serious when I say I have ordered crabs from here every 1 - 2 weeks. Its so good and one time they gave me 3 crabs when they were smaller than usual instead of their regular 2 and it made me so happy. I like getting the soy marinated crabs because I love shoving rice into the guts and getting all of that yellow stuff but I ordered the spicy crabs when I was sick and it actually cured me. Never been in person cause I live far from here but if I do you bet Im getting all the crabs
Food was just okay. The crab was too salty and briny for our taste. Service was too not great. We were not provided gloves like others who did not have to ask. They were also stingy with napkins. Didnt even bother asking for more side dishes cause we had a feeling they would refuse.
DO NOT EAT HERE. I ordered the soy sauce marinated and yangnyeom raw crab, because I ve been craving it. After 2 hours, I felt nauseous and have been throwing up constantly for the past hour. Not sure whether to go to the hospital.
I went to this restaurant for the first time today and they were very unfriendly. Everyone has stiff faces and a stiff atmosphere. Please smile brightly and treat customers. Who owes you anything??
Staff is kind, food is alright. I got C1 (the marinated blue crab) and the crabs are really small. They kept opening the back door so the cold air kept seeping in the restaurant.
came here for the crabs and they did not disappoint. ig reels ftw!
Went back home and caught up with friends here. Homiest coziest spot eva! First time trying raw marinated crab and would have again- funkier than I thought and good with rice. Loved the fishcake banchan. Pork hotpot, especially the broth, also very good.
I enjoyed it before so I came back again. The employee who cleans the table is alcoholic because he cleans the table next to him when he is eating next to him? Sprinkle.. I felt bad because it all splashed out while I was eating next to it. never again
Went to eat the Korean raw carb and got super bad food poisoning. Had vomiting and diarrhea for 2 days and even needed to go to ER. Be careful everyone.
So far, this Korean restaurant is the best Ive ever had. It is very traditional and some dishes I have never seen elsewhere. The raw marinated crabs were a must since it was the only restaurant I found with them on the menu (Montreal and Toronto). They were very sweet, salty and spicy and went perfectly with the rice. The dish that stood out to me the most, however, was the kimchi fried rice. It had something inside that I cant identify but made it so special. Ill definitely go back to try more dishes, however, it is a bit more expensive than what Im used to for the Korean restaurants.
Forced students to tip, do not go. (Clicked $20 instead of letting us choose amount to tip)
I highly recommend their Yangnyeom Gejang (Spicy Raw Crabs). I deducted a star as theres no parking but paid parking across the building. Food : 5/5
First time trying raw marinated crab and we came here specifically for that dish. Personally I liked the original better than the spicy version. We also ordered their pork bone soup short ribs which were delicious. Love their patio btw and the staff here are amazing!
Not many Korean restaurants serve Raw marinated crab so it is such a treat to see it on the menu. I visited this location for this delicious delicacy-just wished it was more gushy and had more guts. I had both the traditional Ganjang Gejang which is marinated in a soy sauce base and Yangnyeom Gejang which is marinated in a spicy sauce. Both were really yummy and the only way to eat this is to roll up your sleeves, get your hands dirty and dig in with a lot of rice I always prefer the traditional Ganjang Gejang more even when I eat it at home as you can taste more of the crab that is not overpowered by spicy sauce. Of course, raw marinated crab is raw and may not be for everyone.
Came here for the marinated raw crab and it did not disappoint. The crab was marinated well and the restaurant owner was very kind throughout our meal. -1 star because I found the crab a bit too salty.
The environment of the restaurant is cramped and uncomfortable. My boyfriend and his brother cant fit in the seat . The table and the chairs are not clean that I can see dirts there . Also our jackets had the same stinky fishy smell However the staff are friendly, polite and their services are very good . The food they served is excellent especially the marinated crab with soy sauce and spicy baby octopus stir fry. We recommend the marinated crab with soy sauce, which is much better than the spicy one because of the sweetness and the freshness of the crab .
Experience was really good. Food was very flavorful.
The spicy stew was delicious :) The owner is also friendly.
This place is beyond words. To sum it up, its incredible! Highly recommend.
The food was delicious, especially the seafood pancake and marinated soy crab. Definitely would go back for more !!!
Rubbish
Marinated crab was delicious though a bit small for the price. The banchan were excellent and I loved the cozy feel to the place.
Food was mid. Forced us to tip and yelled in front of everyone because my friend forgot to tip.
the only place to get raw crabs, unfortunately they were quite small and a bit too salty for our taste. theres also not too much variety on their menu and pricing seems more than other Korean restaurants for what its worth. when asking for gloves to use for the crabs, the older lady only gave us 1 each. then when we asked for another one because we cant really eat the crabs with just one hand, she looked at us like we were a nuisance. the grandpa there was super attentive though! he was watching everyone making sure to refill their tea and help them out. overall though, not the best experience.
Good food and service
Came here to try the raw marinated crab for the first time and it did not dissapoint! Both the soy sauce and spicy version were incredible flavourful, love every bite! Make sure to mix rice with the eggs in the shell. We also tried the seafood pancake and it had just the perfect amount of crisp. The Bossam was also good, just a bit pricey! Highly recommend and will be back for more!
The best Korean food I had in Toronto, Canada
The owner is friendly and the side dishes are clean.
The food at this restaurant was good! I thought the small things were really delicious like the rice, tea, and side dishes (kimchi). Those were my favourites. We ordered the monkfish, soy sauce raw marinated crab and, spicy raw marinated crab. My parents favourite was the soy sauce raw marinated crab and I preferred that one over the spicy one because the spicy one had a little too much sauce for our liking however was still very yummy! Definitely a great restaurant for people who love salty and sweet food. The service was amazing and all the staff were very nice. Parking: Easy parking, we just walked across the street. Kid-friendliness: Very good service and very kind. Wheelchair accessibility: No stairs.
Friendly service and delicious Korean food
Small dishes taste better than the actual food ordered. Overall. Not bad
Came with a friend and the food was really good- it had a great taste, we got the marinated raw crab and it did not disappoint! The only issue was with the service & dish size, they didn t give us any gloves for the crabs until we asked for them while we noticed they gave gloves to many others without having to ask- which i realize could be because they forgot but it still felt neglectful. Portions are quite small for the price- especially the kimchi jiggae which I could pay less for more in other places.
Food is average but unfortunately we experienced unkind staff, small portions, and pricier dishes.
Is my firsttime here i didnt realize Food is good. hot .service is quick. very nice.
Get the crabs because theyre absolutely stellar! (if on the small side), but the Kimchi jjigae and gamjatang are kinda mid and were a bit bland. Vibes inside were very homey and cozy, and its an open kitchen so you can see the ajummas cooking away which is nice.
Went here with a group of friends to try the crabs. We got 2 orders of crab, one soy sauce and one spicy. We also ordered a seafood pancake and the gamjatang soup(?). Personally I enjoyed the seafood pancake and the side dishes the most, I found the crab a bit strange and it was very difficult to eat. The gamjatang meat wasn t super tasty either. If you have money to spare and are curious about raw marinated crab, you could consider coming here.
More on the expensive side. Other than the raw crabs, other dishes are mediocre.
Really good authentic korean food. Felt like was back in korea again
I dont have a chance to review. I live within the building this restaurant is located. Tonight, I walked in, and said I live here. Do you have the beef Bulgogi? Whoever it was, looked at me like I had three heads and walked away from me like I didnt even exist and then stared at me from across tje restaurant like I didnt belong and as if I was an alien. What is THAT??? BOOOOOOO
Food was excellent Cheonggukjang & Dongdongju!!!
The soy sauce crab costs $30, and one of the two crabs is small. The smaller crab has legs, but the larger one has legs hanging off the bottom, and there are only two of them!!! There it is... I dont think theyre selling something with lower product value. The pork cutlet is hmmm.. $25 lol. Its my fault for ordering this.
Food good. The old guy serves it not good customers service .
Went here with my family on a Thursday evening. It wasnt full at the time we went, but later on the restaurant quickly filled up. Our family friend recommended this place for their marinated crabs. Im not a big fan of crabs in general but these crabs were really good. I personally liked the crabs in the spicy sauce more than the soy sauce. Service was pretty good. No complaints. I was so hungry I couldnt take a good picture.
Really enjoyed this place.
One of the few places to have raw marinated crab. Preferred the soy over spicy as just the sauce alone is very tasty. As others have mentioned, the price is definitely not worth the portion size.
Always clean and authentic Korean food
Unassuming spot for Korean eats, specializing in marinated raw crabs amongst other dishes. Really enjoyed the famous crabs, but also pleasantly enjoyed the steamed beef short ribs and the seafood pancake. Super friendly staff as well. Would recommend for groups of 6 and less as the tables seat at most six people, so larger groups would likely be split. Definitely a gem in the Yonge & Finch area.
The food was okay. Definitely not worth the price but the service ruined the experience. The workers need to lighten up and smile. It was terrible everytime I had to ask for something. I would not come here again.
Korean raw crabs were delicious and fresh. The soup felt very comforting and authentic. Great variety of side dishes! Highly recommend
Ordered on Uber eats so can t speak for the service. The marinated crab is way over priced and is very heavily soy based. Two small crabs for that price? Crazy. It s not even cracked apart for us. The bulgogi and kimchi fried rice were also extremely heavy on the soy taste. Everything was honestly extremely disappointing and not worth the price at all.
Ambiance - Mom and pop style restaurant by finch - super easy to get to. Small place, though. Food - The food was delicious - must get the crabs (spicy is better than soy. It was messy eat but worth it ! Service - The staff is super friendly. Would definitely come back.
To get a taste of Korean hometown in Toronto, Jeongsoo is the truth
Unfriendly service
Authentic korean marinated crab dish. The atmosphere isn t fancy at all but the food itself makes the whole dining experience pleasurable and want to keep come back. If you are wondering if you should try or not, then I recommend you to try for sure! For that authentic experience!
The side dishes were delicious and clean.
My wife and I found this place dirty. Will not return.
Had to come here for the popular raw marinated crab and it didnt disappoint! We ordered the arrowroot cold noodles and yangnyeom gejang. The noodles were good - my friend and I were silly and ate half the bowl without adding the sauce, so dont think we were able to get the appropriate taste. The crab was a little too spicy for us, but was still very flavourful! We do wish that the portion sizes would be a little larger for the crab. Will definitely come again to try the soy sauce flavour instead! The service was also amazing and the owners were very friendly.
Great little spot for Korean food. Known for their raw crab dishes. The cold noodles in the summer are awesome too
Their kalbijjim is enough to warrant a 5-star review
The bean noodles were especially delicious~
I loved all the food, everything seems homemade and it was delicious. The staff is very fast and the grandpa is super attentive!!
Welcome to genuine Korean traditional food. My favorite is Heangtaejjim but all soups are very good.
Came here to try the raw marinated crab! I highly recommend its delicious! Also, the side dishes were equally as great!
The food was good, but this place is really overpriced compared to most Korean restaurants in Toronto . Also didnt give us any gloves for the crab
You need at least two bowls of rice to finish this soy marinated crab meal($25.99). It s salty buy yummy salty enough to make yoy eat a lot of rice. It s so called bop do dook( carb pulling side dishes Excellent cucumber salad as well!
My friend and I arrived around 9:25pm and they still seated us. Our initial server, a kind lady, reminded us they closed at 10pm and still took our order. We came to try their spicy marinated crab and it did not disappoint! My friend and I will definitely come back again. They did not rush us to eat when it was nearing 10pm too. Our server and a gentleman who remained past 10pm were very patient and seemed thankful we enjoyed their food. Will recommend this place to other friends!
ordered take out multiple times. Banchan is not that great. kimchi is really bitter for some reason both times that i tried it. I got the soy marinated crabs and the spicy marinated crabs. I recommend the soy ones. If you order take out be sure to eat it the day you order it because if you save it for leftovers the next day it will most likely have gone bad. It makes your home smelly very fishy too.
Delicious food , especially the crab, this is the only place, you have to come and try it Parking: You can park in the building, you go thru the narrow aisle beside the restaurant and drive to the bank of the apartment , you can only park st the spots without numbers, they are very limited but its the closest to the restaurant.
This location is so close to finch station. I came here to try the marinated crabs. I ve actually had marinated crabs in South Korea before and can compare. The restaurant is quite cozy as in it just has the bare necessities required to dine in. In Korea I had both the spicy Marinated and the soy sauce marinated crabs. I personally like the soy sauce version more, so for Jung soo nae I decided to stick to that. I ordered the bibimbap and it was just normal, It wasn t good but it wasn t horrible either. I don t think it came with meat and would avoid getting it next time. As for the sides there were bean sprout, arrow root jelly and some veggies. The marinated crabs were just okay in flavour. I feel like there wasn t that much meat and it s quite small portioned. For me Korea has a better deal and flavour. The service was also soso, It wasn t busy when I went and I saw some of the staffs just chit chatting. Overall, i think I would come here or I m craving marinated crab. This is probably one of the only Spots in Toronto where you can get this, so it s worth a try
Staff not too friendly. Food was just acceptable. Owners were more friendly but kept asking to pay in cash. Parking: Convenient parking at Finch station pay parking.
The guy server was extraordinarily kind and paying attention to details. A-gu-cchim and their sides especially acorn jelly were good. Though, their kimchi as a side and the beef in cold noodles were probably the worst. I would go back to try red bean porridge which they didnt have at the time.
I ate the summer special, bean noodles, and it was so delicious!!! It was a very thick, really delicious bean noodle soup! The side dishes were delicious too! I enjoyed the cucumber sobak.
Gotta share my recent restaurant experience, and it was a bit meh. I wasnt super hungry, so we decided to order just one dish. But our server seemed really unhappy with that choice. But the dish we ordered was $30+ which could be shared between 2 small eaters. It s not like we order 1 small soup and share. Then it was time for a panchan refill. We didnt ask for multiple rounds, just one more serving, and they straight-up refused. And to top it off, my gf sat in front of the kitchen and caught our server with some of the staff snickering behind our back. Not cool, not cool at all. Im sad to say that my girlfriend and I wont be coming back to this restaurant, and it used to be her absolute fave for Korean food. But the last visit didnt cut it. The service was a letdown, and the attitude from the staffs left a bad taste in our mouths.
You must try this shop s soy sauce crab
My friends and I went to try the marinated crab. We had both the soy and the spicy crab. We liked both of the crabs but we felt the soy crab was more unique. The spicy crab tastes like the sauce that they use, but the soy crab was more unique because it really brings out the umami flavour more. The crab was also quite tender which was nice. I would recommend having a good crab to rice ratio so that it doesnt taste too salty for those who are more sensitive to saltiness. I would also recommend asking for gloves because my hands smelled pretty crabby afterwards. Also, the older gentleman was very attentive to us. When he noticed our table really enjoyed kimchi, he refilled for us proactively.
Soy sauce crab was delicious! We also got the hot pot pork bone soup. It was a bit confusing how much rice comes with the crab and how much comes with the pork bone soup. We got 3 bowls of rice and we had 4ppl. Overall food was delicious, place was clean, and it was quite busy for 11:30am weekend. All the seats was filled once it opened!
By far the best korean restaurant in north york! Very authentic korean food, and the owners are super friendly! Will surely cisit again soon:)
Prices got a bit pricier but the marinated crab was so good
Had a bad night at this Korean restaurant. The service and attitude is really bad. Food
I never want to come back to this place but my friend want to try the raw crab. This time the crab even smaller. The menu doesnt have many option, there is no noodles. All the food has small portion. I prefer to eat Korean food at downtown Bloor Korean town. The lady owner there is very rude, she keep on rushing us to order and also keep asking if we are finished our food then brought us the bill right away. Never come here again!! $75 for 3 people, only ordered the crab, stone bowl rice and a beef bone soup.
First time eating Korean food, the food was amazing! So many flavours! The staff was polite! Packed with customers!
Tried entries recommended in the reviews. Food was decent but service was subpar - felt very rushed with the bill with the excuse of being busy, even though there were empty tables and no lineup. There are other options for Korean food nearby. Not coming back again.
Awesome food
Raw crabs - delicious
Amazing team of aunties and a grandpa Beef bone & cabbage soup was delicious Marinaded crabs are a must try Food : 5/5 |
First time here and man my first call was a bad experience. Called and asked where to park, the lady said and she almost had no patience to wait for me to react and she hung up. Unfortunately, friends already decided to eat there. Consistent with the phone call, service was bad. I give it that they don t speak English but you would not be able to feel any sense of belonging in there. No attempt to help or anything. It just sucks there overall. Probably would be better if you speak Korean but I don t know.
Wanted to try Gejang (Raw marinated crab), it was really good. Decent portions, the Bulgogi that I ordered was a little bit dry but all the flavour was still there. Great atmosphere, nice staff. Will definitely come back. Parking is a bit tricky so definitely scout out the area first.
Enjoyed the crabs but they kept giving my friend dirty looks for laughing
Wanted to try their famous raw crab so came here on a Saturday night. They forced us to get 2 orders of the raw crab and refused service when we said we only wanted 1 to share. Why do we have to get 4 crabs? What if we don t like it and want to eat it with something else? What if someone in the party is allergic to crabs?? Unbelievable.
One the best Korean spots near Yonge and finch, and there are a lot of Korean spots around so that is saying something. The vibes at this restaurant feel like you are in someones living room and the food is super comforting, especially for a cold rainy or snowy day. I recommend the Budae Jjigae and the seafood pancake! Overall I wish I had Come SooNae (come sooner) to JungSooNae! Sorry about that
Unhygienic. Worst attitude from servers. Will never go again
Mediocre yet overpriced
No service whatsoever. Purposely ignoring me just because I went alone. Food is alright, but not worth the price.
Very bad customer service!
The marinated raw crab is super creamy!
Great place to fill your belly, prices are reasonable, and service is good.
Small place for hearty food. They don t take reservations as there is a total of around 10 booths, but wait time isn t too long. Small booths that are close together, and small bathrooms that are decently maintained. The staff was not rude at all but aren t that tentative. For a table of 4, we got a rice, hotpot, and 2 orders of crab. The side dishes that come with it are decent, also comes with bowls of purple rice. The kimchi fried rice was really good, but definitely small portion for the price. The army stew was decent but very basic for the price mostly just bean sprouts, spam, kimchi and only 1 packet of noodle. The blue crab was interesting as it was our first time, and definitely something to try; very soft and melts in your mouth. Drinks are fairly expensive but saw lots of tables drinking soju and chit chatting. Overall, decent place for hearty food but kind of expensive considering the portion size.
The marinated soy sauce crab are worth to try.
great service, delicious food It is more recommended to dine in than take out
Is it okay to do this just because the kids went without adults? Five people went and ordered four, so they got angry and forced us to order one more... They said they were scared of the kids, so they ended up ordering one more, and then they got full and wanted to take the leftovers home, but they were so scared that they couldnt even ask for a container. and... When I went to pay, I found a strange place where I paid with cash and gave change, forcing me to tip at 10% and taking an extra $10 in change... If you want to get a tip, be kind... You cant do business like this with children who are weak. As an adult, I feel ashamed of my children. If you want to do business for a long time in this small Korean community in Toronto, do it right.
Authentic Korean food. Try the raw crab with soy sauce and with spicy sauce. Me and my friends recommend the soy sauce one and the pork bone soup is sooo good as well. We asked for more rice and refill the side dishes. They got us back so quick! Definitely will come back to try more dishes!
Yummy food!!!!!
Best Korean restaurant in the Toronto
Its so delicious. I have never tasted such delicious pork bone soup...
Follow these rules in order to have an enjoyable dining experience at JungSooNae: 1. Be aware that there is a 10% mandatory tipping policy (we witnessed the waitress bullying/harassing a table of younger folks demanding for a 10% tip) 2. Don t ask for side dish refills, owner will give you bad attitude 3. Be prepared to pay expensive prices for small portion 4. They basically are cash only, we wanted to pay by debit and again, were given bad attitude. 10% off for paying by cash. CRA take note 5. To actually get service here, stand upon your seat, jump up and down and wave your arms around. There are PLENTY of good, fairly priced Korean restaurants to choose from, we will not be coming back for sure.
It is our second time coming here for DongDongJu (Korean rice wine) and Gejang (marinated raw crab). The crab is still as fresh as ever, and it went almost perfect with the rice wine (thats because their other food also went deliciously with the wine). Although the price is affordable, for us its a satisfying treat once every few months. We also went on a Saturday for dinner, yet its not too crowded; people came and went. Such a gem in North York! Parking: Parking is at the back of the building.
Good authentic Korean restaurant. Love this place.
We drove all the way to Toronto from Ottawa to try the crab. It tastes amazing!
Home-style authentic Korean food. Waiters are very nice. The soy marinated crabs is a unique dish here. I enjoyed the bibimbap, cold noodles, and the soy bean soup. Side dishes were great too.
No refill. Expensive & small portion
Super small family restaurant. Came here for the marinated raw crabs and man oh man, Im in love! We got the soy crabs, would highly recommend! It was super flavourful and had no fishy seafood smell/taste to it at all. Tip: put some purple rice in the crab head and eat it with everything inside! Super flavourful and rich. Cant recommend this place enough!
I went to a restaurant known for its delicious food. The price was too expensive and all the food (including side dishes) was too salty so I drank a lot of water and the room was so hot that I was sweating. It is true that the price of food has risen, but the taste is poor. I feel like I just received a raise...
The worst Korean restaurant that I ever visited. Terrible service, rude, tough, unwelcoming, and cold staff who are always frown, racist and discriminatory against the non Korean clients to the point they never reply us when greet them or say thanks; they make the clients lose their faces and get embarrassed instead of getting satisfied and feel happy for enjoying the food and the good service. The team work are day spoilers number one. They do their best not to serve you but to resent you by their unfriendly way and unlovely attitude. They give bad name to korean restaurants and smear Korean culture. Moreover the food isn t yummy and too expensive for nothing than some bones as if they are for dogs with a small slice of meat that needs a microscope to be seen. We ve been through hard times and a bad experience with bad mode so we will never repeat it again. It is a sort of spread of negative energy and bad vibes around you. This kind of restaurants should be boycotted for breaching human rights and breaking hospitality rules. Inspite of paying tips, we never get a simple smile on their frown, angry faces. We felt alienated in this xenophobic restaurant, it s supposed that we are all Canadians with multiculturalism, inclusion, and diversity mind. We should be in unity not in splitting, insociability, and ghetto s mentality, this is the broadminded liberal values of Canada that we should follow, respect, and preach that we have been raised on. I highly unrecommend it for you inner peace, mode safety, avoiding trauma. Why you spend money for getting traumatised and feeling unhappy for being persona non grata while you can spend it in fun and full belly at the same time?!
A great place to enjoy a good Korean meal. Family style small restaurant, cozy n yummy food. However, the sitting is not for big group. 2-4 people per table. The pork bone soup and seafood pancake are highly recommended. Seafood pancake is so crispy n lots of seafood in it. The stewed beef rib is too sweet for me. Its moister n tender. There is a long line up after 6:30pm. Better go there early than late.
I sucked those gejang dry.
The staff is unkind. The food is salty. There are more ingredients than the main ingredients of the food. Thats too expensive. The parking lot is dangerous to enter. It is a restaurant that has too many disadvantages and lowers the level of Korean restaurants. For now, there are no owners and only employees. The employees shout and fight even if they have customers. There is no need for further explanation.
The WORST customer service ever!!!!
An amazing experience if you are coming to this restaurant the gejang -raw marinated crabs. Delicious gajang gejang, great side dishes, good amount of food, great flavour, although a tad too salty, great to balance with the rice. Service is ok. I would come back for the gajang gejang
Food is good and its probably the only place in Toronto to get marinated raw crabs. However, everything is fairly expensive and service is nonexistent. The servers ignored us multiple times and tried to get us to leave as soon as we were done eating. Not a good experience.
The food and service is great here! The marinated crab is delicious and so is their gamjatang which is my usual go-to. I much prefer this location than the Steeles location. This location is smaller but cozier. The staff here pay much better attention to you and are extremely friendly and hospitable - whereas the Steeles location s staff just ignores you, slower, and gives you a side of attitude :) I ll be back to get some more good eats!
Very delicious food and friendly service You should try
This is a bad dining experience Crab is not fresh All the food was terrible We didnt get any service Not even a cup of water! So bad!!!!
Got food poisoned from the crabs
With so many Korean restaurants to choose from, I think I found a new go-to for takeout. Food (Gamjatang)was great, but the main reason for 5 stars is they give you all the side dishes they normally would if you dine in. I noticed all other Korean restaurants in the area only give you TWO side dishes when it s delivery, which is really disappointing. If you re looking to order in, buy from here!
The food tastes good, but the service is a bit slow and a bit expensive. Four people ate for 180.
Spicy Meat Soup! I m eating it right NOW! GOD! It was such delicious and life giving that made me pause take out my phone and leave this comment! It s my 2nd time here and it s exactly cooked the same way as first time! Consistent and solid. Nice relaxing vibes by the way!
Ordered takeout of bibimbap and bulgogi spending over $45 for these two dishes. Very disappointed at the portion sizes for the price. Bulgogi was less than 3/4 filled and scant noodles which is a cheap filler. Food was good and they even made it spicy as requested, which I appreciated. Nonetheless I won t be ordering again as they are very stingy with takeout portion and from other reviews dining in seems challenging. Customer service is lacking possibly due to language barriers, very abrupt and hung up while I was still asking a question about the sides.
I tried twice there. It was horrible. The food was cold, old and dry, terrible. The crab in soy sauce was bad, unable to eat. They are ok sometimes or terrible depends on the time of visit according to my friend whos been there many times. If they dont have good food to serve anymore they have to stop taking customers in. Instead they sold old dry food. Too bad
Food poisoning from crab
My dine in experience today was not the greatest. Nobody greeted us upon entry, we had to find our own table inside and got rushed out to the patio by a clueless waitress who did not give us a reason. It was quite windy and we didn t want to sit beside the traffic road. We saw a group of Korean ladies moved themselves in from the patio so we just followed and sit at the table we chose at the beginning .. Besides, none of the waitresses speaks English and it was quite embarrassing when they just stand there and stared me down expecting me to speak Korean. Nobody came to refill my tea or ask me how was everything during this whole time. They were not busy but might be understaffed, one of the waitresses seemed to be the only chef there. The raw crab was not fresh, we got 3 tiny little crabs that don t even taste that fresh for 18 bucks. While there are tons of great Korean restaurants in town you don t have to choose this specific one.
Busy, authentic, family-run Korean restaurant specializing in raw crab marinated in their special sauce (seasonal though!). Delicious crab and delicious sauce. Its a super busy restaurant, and doesnt take reservations so come early if you want a seat. The location is on the main street level of an apartment building. Parking is located at the back of the building with only a few designated spots for the restaurant.
Ganjang gejang is the main highlight here and worth a try as it is one of the only places in Toronto to serve this. We would NOT recommend the samgyeopsal (grilled pork belly); the meat was poor quality and I regret not sending it back. Our portion was put on the grill from frozen (should always be fresh), and had an unpleasant porky smell. Korean cuisine is one that does not tolerate gamey meat and the owners should not have served that to anyone. The servers also overcooked our pork to a rubbery texture and even the owner had to come to our grill and try to rescue our meat which was turning into jerky. On the plus side, their kimchi is well aged and has a decent flavour and we liked that they serve purple rice here. The rest of the banchan was mediocre. For this neighbourhood, we expected better. Visit here for the crabs only.
Food didnt taste good and service was horrible. Lady owner was very rude too. I do not recommend
Pretty good Korean food. The marinated crabs are delicious, along with many other korean dishes. I would visit this restaurant often
Ive always wanted to try the Korean raw crab dish. This place has it, and its so good and perfect with a bowl of rice. IF You are not afraid of eating crabs raw You should give it a try. ... If nope. They have other great Korean dishes as well !
Great food!
In addition to the famous soy sauce crab sauce, grilled croaker and yukgaejang are really delicious. They offer a variety of side dishes and are the best restaurant in Toronto!
