Malado Restaurant in North York

Stumbled upon this gem on ubereats. Food was very flavourful, arrived super hot still and fast. I loved that there was an abundance of ingredients in my Kimchi Jjigae. Noodles were also separated from my soup to ensure it didn t get soggy. They accidentally forgot my rice but was very kind enough to deliver it to me after I called to inquire. 10/10 would recommend! Would order here again!

Good food. We enjoyed the pork bone soup and malado sushi. Boneless fried chicken was just okay.

I love Korean food, specially teokbokki and gamjatang. I have been to few places for gamjatang but Malado is the only place I find that offers spiciness level. I enjoy every last piece of the meat and the soup warms my soul! The cheese teokbokki with dumplings is spicy but it is so good I cannot help but eat. Our go to all the time for delivery specially on cold winter nights.

Food is just amazing but the lady who owns the restaurant harassed me in two opportunities for tips. I ordered online and when I got there to pick up the order, she goes you are not going to give us any tips? That s not nice at all . Money is tight for everybody, but she doesn t have any rights to push people that way to get any tips. That s the rudest I ve ever seen in my life. Not coming back.

Weve been to Malado Restaurant so many times, I brought my family and friends here because the food so good and authentic Korean. The best Gamjatang I ever tasted and the food felt home made for me. The staff are accommodating and helpful and it makes them smile when you greet them in Korean. They have great menu to try so try it out if youre craving for Korean food. Parking: There are ample place to park

It s a hidden but good restaurant. The food is fresh and the decorations are perfect. The waiter was friendly and supportive. The warm atmosphere is for someone who loves to live slowly and enjoy food with no rush. The price is not cheap but worths money. Highly recommended ! Parking: Massive parking places

their food is amazing but the only reason i am removing 2 stars is: 1) they dont let you order the tteokbokki without the beef gyoza, as a vegetarian this is a bit frustrating and im not sure why i cant order the same dish without the gyoza 2) charging $9 for sides on ubereats when you get them for free at any other korean restaurant is kind of ridiculous, like $5 i would understand but $9??

I got 2 big trays of sushi, Ive eaten at some expensive places here in Toronto and Japan - this was much better ! Perfect and more than reasonable .. Love the family run atmosphere

Such a cute little restaurant, great menu with Japanese & Korean dishes , which is hard to find outside of Toronto. The interior design makes every table feel more intimate and private which I loved! And very culturally designed. We got the volcano roll, malado roll , the salmon lovers meal and their japchae. Parking was easy to find and there was no wait time to be seated, I will definitely be back

The food was really good! We ordered Gam Ja Tang! The atmosphere is pleasant. There is only one server but she works hard and it s probably a family owned and run business so this is the type of business we want to support! We didn t have to wait too long and anytime we needed something, we simply asked and was served! Would recommend and go again!

They always get my order wrong. The food is tasty but only if they get it right. Ive ordering from them on ubereats for a while now and it is hit or miss. Usually miss! I really want to give them the praise they deserve but they are terrible on deliveries! The food wouldve been nice only if I receive the food I paid for, instead I randomly get the food for someone else. Very unprofessional, why cant you double check before you hand them out to the driver? This happened more than 3 times! The reason why I still want to buy even when Im beyond disappointed with the delivery mishaps is that because the food is good. But pleaseeeee pleaseee double check when you hand out food because whenever I get it wrong I dont end up eating the food anyway. It is very hassling.

This is the worst sushi I ve ever had. The fish tasted like they were about to go bad and the rice was overly sweet. We ordered a large platter but the size was super small and the variety of the maki was ridiculous. There were cucumber and crab rolls. That s like the cheapest poorly made rolls I have ever seen in a platter. Overall very disappointing and would 10/10 NOT recommend

Ive been going here for over 15 years! Started going in highschool. I live downtown now but whenever I visit my mom this is where well go :) I love getting their bentos and daily specials. Recommend LA ribs as the portion of meat is generous. Sadly Nori sushi closed as that was a great place (and did AYCE).

This is my end of the week place to go if not Vietnamese restaurant next door.

I ve tried this place after looking at other reviews, but everything is just below average. First of all, the server wasn t sure which menu gets what, which I get it since everybody makes mistakes. If that s the case, most of the time, the food makes up for it. Unfortunately, the miso soup was just blend, the tempura was just overcooked, the sushi/sashimi were not at all fresh, and I couldn t have more than one bite of the side dishes. I m not sure if it was just a one-day thing, but I wouldn t recommend this place.

Ordered Sullungtang, white rice and Korean side dish and was quite disappointed. First of all, disappointing portion of beef in Sullungtang and too much noodles compared to the beef. And the fact that Sullungtang included white rice and I got 2 rice bowls but in the photo it only shows the soup and no mention whatsoever that it includes white rice?? That is not acceptable. And Korean side dish menu items unacceptably different from the photo (the only matching items were Kimchi & cucumber kimchi). Never ordering again.

Order take out from here all the time and it s consistent. It s the only sushi place in the area so you know you have to support, but the food is good, fast and fresh. Highly recommend to everyone.

Great friendly Family run restaurant. Food is flavorful and reasonably priced. Waiting time for pick up orders is usually less than 15 minutes so when I call ahead, its always ready when I get there. Would highly recommend Malado for meals (lunch or dinner) when in the mood for Sushi or Sashimi (my favourites). We had their Thursday specials for dinner last week and both kids ate EVERYTHING in the packages! That says something!

Love the tempura udon and sushi is amazing! Definitely recommend the soft shell crab roll and Malado sushi.

Good selection of Korean,Japanese and Thai food. I order once a month. I usually get the bento box with short ribs. Their rolls and tempura are very good. Tempura not greasy. You can get delivery through ubereats.

The food here was better than expected. The restaurant itself was small but also cozy, with comfortable booths. The beef bulgogi bibimbap and malado sushi roll were both satisfying. The Korean side dishes were pretty standard. I was a bit disappointed that the yuk jae jang (soup) was just ok - I found that it lacked flavour compared to other places, on top of the beef being rubbery/ overcooked. It also would have been nice to be served some more tea / given a tea pot for self serve refills, as the tea was quite good in the tiny tea cups. As its difficult to find good sushi places in the North West end of the city I would definitely return next time Im in the mood for sushi. And to try more dishes!

Its our 1st time to try this area 2437 finch ave west. The food was so good but im so disappointed with the man whom assist us for the tips because when we pay he doesnt explain that we need to press the custom for the tip. And he said if we have problem to give tip better to order take away not to dine-in. What kind of waiter he is?!its a matter of racism . We ate in so many restaurant and never happened that we dont give tip. Hope that you explain to the customer what to do so that we understand. Your so rude and no manners.

Cozy atmosphere, friendly staff. They left me with full pitcher of water and gave me privacy. Though they did volunteer napkins when they heard me blowing my nose. The pork bone soup was very good - heads up its very rich! The sides were Kimchi, pickled cucumber, pickled radish, and sweet potatoes. Music was a bit loud from where I was sitting. Cost was a bit higher than I expected but the location is great since Im in the suburbs and didnt have to make it over to either Koreatown. Parking was good. I am curious to try their sushi sometime too.

We loved the sushi at this place. My partner, who doesnt like it too much, was able to choose a succulent beef dish. The service is attentive with smiling people, fast and the food is excellent . We will keep good memories

Food is always great here, but today it was just extra on point! Had the spicey pork bulgogi, gamjatang, tempura dinner, and malado roll. If you like hidden gems. This is a great place! I gave it four stars and not 5 only because it is a bit older and run down. Still I would go here before any fancy restaurant!

I would give them a zero rating if Google allows it. Its the worst Korean food experience Ive ever had. The service was bad, the food wasnt good, way over priced for smaller than usual portions. Its the first Korean restaurant I been to in Toronto, where they dont offer any side dishes. And on top of all that... tips get added to your bill. But when you pay, your server doesnt mention anything about how it was already added to your total..... So if you werent paying attention to your bill ... You will end up tipping them twice for bad services

This place is terrible and horrible. No tea will be served until you place an order. No side dishes. Mandatory tips 13% got added to your bill and will even ask you to pay more (be careful!!) The food is terrible and very small size but it is much more expensive than any other Korean Restaurants. If you have any other choice, do not come to this place please!

I ordered the ramen.. And I honestly thought it was ramen from a packet.. The beef was a sliver, no soft boiled egg just scrambled eggs boiled like Im a baby. I asked for not Spicy but that option didnt exist. Then... While eating my cup noodles for $15.65 a black couple enter, 45 min before closing time, and the server tells them the kitchen is closed. You should lose your liscene how dare you stereotype people.. You just sat family 10min who and are still making food for them. Unfortunately those people accepted this injustice, I tipped you 20% so youd remember me.. Dispicable.

A hidden GEM. They have private booths which I LOVE. The sushi is fresh and have good choices. Went on a date with my boyfriend here. I m pretty sure it s run by an old sweet couple. They re always so welcoming and that s how it should be, especially if it s family owned

Asked for no pork in kimchi stew but was given pork.

Ate here on a Saturday evening. Was sat right away. The staff were very thorough with the checking of the vaccine certificates. Korean run. Atmosphere: Small, old establishment, not much space for large groups. Everything seemed old and well used. Booth setting. Very nice instrumental music playing in the background. Food: This is where Malado loses points. First the good: The portion sizes are large for the most part. There is a large menu so lots of variety to choose from (could also be a negative depending on how you look at it). Most things we got (Donkatsu, Chicken Tempura, Yaku Udon, tofu chigae) were fine and came fairly fast. Now the bad: I dont know if it was just when I went, but dont get the sushi, unless you want to eat expensive cardboard. Almost threw up a couple times because it tasted so bad. The rest: Salad came with almost no dressing, some of the vegetable tempura were not cooked all the way and going back to the sushi, we ordered a maki/sushi party platter.... compared to other establishments, they cheap out on the variety, half of the maki we got were straight cucumber or crab meat rolls. The other half were california rolls and what I think was supposed to be a spicy salmon roll that just disintegrated into mush in your mouth. Service: This is also where it loses points but also why it is not 1 star. The single server was very nice and cheerful, however attention to detail was not there. Other than bringing food over we were left alone, our water remained empty on several occasions. Final Verdict: Dont get the Sushi. Other than that, everything else was average. I dont think I will be returning as there are better options just north near Vaughn Mills, but if transportation is an issue, Malado is the only Japanese/Korean restaurant nearby.

Edit from 5 stars to 4 stars: I find that the soups have become inconsistent in content recently. Other than the broth and noodles in both the udon soup and ddukbaeki bulgogi stew, I noticed that the vegetables included in these soups differ each time I order takeout from here. Sometimes there would be bok choy or julienned carrots, or other times none of these and a completely different assortment of vegetables. While I love to eat vegetables, I would prefer if I were to receive the same vegetables every time instead of being surprised, as they do make up a big portion of the soups. - ORIGINAL REVIEW: Before the shutdowns due to the COVID-19 pandemic, I loved going to this restaurant for a dine-in meal. Lovely staff and high quality, delicious, and authentic Korean and Japanese food. Even during lockdown I often find myself ordering from them on DoorDash because their food remains consistently delicious. They don t skimp on the quality of the little side dishes either. This is a small, maybe irrelevant detail but I also appreciate that they have various types of packaging that perfectly hold their different menu items. It is very satisfying to see on top of how tasty the food is!!! I will continue to be a loyal customer to this amazing local restaurant. I highly recommend the Chicken Katsu, Ddukbaeki Bulgogi Stew, and Tempura Udon Soup.

Great food,affordable price. I just feel they are so stingy in giving plates and cutleries. At least my logic is everyone should get at least one set at the beginning of the meal and doesnt have to ask for one... Other than that I like the place.

I have been going to this Korean Japanese fusion sushi restaurant off and on again for several years and the quality has gone downhill but he prices steadily rising. Older service woman was inattentive and didnt tell us that the menu was online now and we realized after 10 minutes of not checking on us that it was online now. Food quality was average and portions were small. Prices were high and service was trash. Never once did she ask us for any tea refills or napkins etc. Played random drill rap music to eurodance music that messed up the whole mood, very strange music selection for a Asian restaurant. One of those mom and pop places that just isnt good. If you are hungry and craving Japanese Korean food and dont want to drive anywhere else go here otherwise avoid this place, your wallett will be lighter but your stomach will still be hungry.

The foods and service was great. The food was fast. The outside of the restaurant did not make me want to go in but the inside was totally different. It a little chilly inside but overall it was great! I would come again Ps. one of the waitress gave me and my friend each a candy, that was nice.

Everything Ive ordered from here has been prepared fresh and tasted great. The bento boxes are a great deal and their soups are delicious. Never been disappointed with this restaurant. Service can be a bit slow at peak times so just be prepared for that since it is a family run restaurant.

Have been eating here for many years, their generosity (mannerisms and portions) have always kept me coming back. Awesome little nook for large or intimate gatherings. Always found my food was packed with care for take out and delivery. Looking forward to when they open up for dine-in again.

Ive only recently discovered this place that turns out to be practically in my own backyard. I thought we really didnt have any decent sushi places in my neighbourhood and I was very clearly wrong. It is unfortunate that they are rather hidden behind the Shell car wash and even hard to find on the plaza signage. I hope they pay reduced rent for this bad hand theyve been dealt. I have only ordered via Doordash a couple of times so far during the pandemic. I hope to visit the restaurant in the near future when things open up. Although they got my order slightly wrong yesterday (regular salmon roll was sent instead of spicy salmon roll), I was thoroughly impressed by the amount of fish in the roll and also the serving of salmon sashimi. They kind of looked expensive on the delivery menu but when I saw the portion I felt the value was absolutely there. This is not like the many all you can eat places offering delivery that cut down the portions to 10% fish to 90% rice or tempura bits. You get what you pay for here.

The food is amazing here, I ve been to some of the most expensive places in the city and this one is at par with quality. The portions are great, I ve only had Japanese food here, the donburi is packed with fresh sashimi and the portion is huge. Their combination boxes (chicken/salmon/beef) come with tasty shrimp tempura/broccoli/eggplant, sushi and salad + glass noodles. Very affordable and very sweet people. I highly recommend this place. You ll be addicted.

It was a small place but food is surprisingly great. Place was clean, service was decent, prices are reasonable. Lots to choose from the menu, they offer Thai, Korean, Japanese. Soup base were all flavourful, bento boxes have good portions, appetizers are good too. Would definitely come back and try other dishes.. They also have day special depending on the day of the week which was neat.

Went there for vapentines day. Very friendly host and staff. Place is very cozy and intimate. Food is awesome. Usually have to go yonge n finch area for this type of food. Finally krn spot close to home and thats actually good.

I don t understand why people rate high value on this place. I ordered assorted sashimi, rainbow maki and cold noodle w/ raw fish(a.k.a hwe nang myeon) by UberEats. When I received my order, and unpacked the dishes I was so surprised because all food is bad. Literally BAD. The nang myeon is already gone and even I couldn t mix the noodle. The sashimi... wow.. I couldn t take this quality of sashimi ever. I clearly saw too much white layers and they didn t slice the fish well. I ate one piece of octopuses among them, too much salted water from it and couldn t swallow. All the sashimis are combined together and it looks disgusting to eat. Also, I asked them without white tuna and tilapia, but I got tilapias. They probably don t know what tilapia is even they re running a restaurant. Further, the roll I clearly saw the not greeny avocado and the fish quality also bad. Me and my bf, we couldn t eat and just throw to a garbage can. I wasted around $70 and got a bad experience. Overall, Don t take any food contained raw fish in this place.

First time visiting. The food was okay, some things were questionable. The avocado on the sushi was for sure expired, but still gave other things a try. Like I said the food was okay. It s not a place I would go back to, for me it s the bathrooms and if they are not in good condition.... it s a huge turnoff. Considering the area doesn t have many sushi options, it would be a good place for sushi, the soup was good. But not my cup of tea.

Love this place. Good service. Limited seating so you have to pick an appropriate time to go. Its worth it. The Bulgogi is my favorite.
