Classic steak house in a beautiful house Main server was great but other ones were okay. It was confusing who was taking our orders and our wine was delayed because of that. Great seafood and steak. Expensive meal but more of an unique experience
Best steak I’ve ever had, melt in your mouth 10 out of ten. The lamb was incredible and the broccolini and potato fondant were tasty sides. Table side Cesar was to die for and the Calamari was so fresh I could taste the sea. Don’t hesitate to go, it’s incredible.
We went to David Duncan House tonight for a double celebration, and it was the perfect venue. The food and drinks were absolutely delicious, our meal included lobster pasta, strip sirloin, and rib eye, all cooked to perfection. The service was exceptional, especially thanks to our amazing server, James, who made sure everything was flawless throughout the evening. They were also able to accommodate my mom, who has mobility issues, ensuring she was comfortable. It was a wonderful experience, and we’ll definitely be returning!
On special occasions or when I want to impress friends, I go to David Duncan House. Their private rooms are perfect for gatherings of around 10 people. Although the minimum spend is a bit high, it’s absolutely worth it. They even have a live traditional Caesar salad preparation show. When the giant seafood tower appetizer is served, it amazes everyone. The steaks and lamb chops are incredibly delicious, and the portions are very generous—people usually end up feeling quite full. The restaurant has a vintage, upscale style, and it’s spacious, making it great for group dinners even if you’re not in a private room. There’s plenty of parking, and it’s conveniently located in the heart of North York.
Stopped by with family this evening to celebrate my birthday, and I’m sure we couldn’t have picked a better spot. Absolutely no misses from the delicious oysters to the perfectly cooked ribeye and ending with the desserts and house coffee. However the real highlight of the experience was our server James, he had a lovely demeanour and was perfect making my elementary aged brother feel special and welcomed. Thanks so much James, you really made our night!
Very quiet and calm place for a Friday summer night. There’s room for walk and to talk without having people from other tables right next to each other. Food was very good and service was really good. Overall good experience if you want to take someone to a fancy date I think this will do. I went for an anniversary dinner and we were pleased by the environment and service. Food was good but nothing life changing. P.S. They asked my bf what was the occasion when he did the reservation and at the end of our dinner they brought a little surprise piece of cake for both of us. He didn’t even know they were going to bring it lol
It has been several years since my last visit to this restaurant. I visited to celebrate my birthday. Given my fondness for oysters, I ordered half a dozen, which were quite delectable. The steak was also of a satisfactory standard. The service was adequate; the server was consistently attentive and ensured that all aspects of our experience were satisfactory. In celebration of my birthday, I was presented with a cake, which, while delicious, was a bit too sweet for my palate. The pricing structure depends on the extent of one's order, but it is generally reasonable.
The food, service, and ambiance here is impeccable. I came for a work event with 20+ guests and comfortably sat for 2 hours just eating and chatting. Servers today were a little unsure about which dishes were for which guests due to our large group, and what appeared to be servers-in-training. Ultimately, everyone was still fed warm delicious food in our group with no problems. I loved the shrimp tagliatelle’s lemon garlic sauce and the addition of shredded asparagus to add flavour and texture. Dessert is always delicious here. I’ll be back :)
Wheelchair accessibility: Its kind of difficult for wheelchair. Because of lots of stairs. Recommended dishes Freshly Made Caesar Salad
The food was amazing. However, when i went inside the host in the front was very rude and made me feel like I shouldn t be there. I understand it is a fine dining restaurant however i am not foreign to the setting. I have been to multiple fine dining restaurants but i was never greeted with the look of judgement at the front door. Her face only softened when i verified a reservation with my company. The servers were amazing but the low rating is for the host. Please treat all of our customers fairly.
Rita and her staff are amazing! The food and service is outstanding. John always goes over and above for us. They treat us like family every time we are there
Amazing hospitality by the host! Great service and food! Kid-friendliness: Great choices for kids Food : 5/5 |
We hosted our Corporate Christmas Party Rita was very helpful during the booking of our event. Dinner service was exceptional! The team at The David Duncan House was incredible. All food was timed to perfection and brought out at the same time. Food was great! Everything cooked to perfection! Would definitely recommend this venue for your next event.
This was my first time eating at the restaurant and as beautiful as the place was inside and out, the service was to be desired and the atmosphere was not good at all. It was extremely cold when we arrived, there was no heat in the area of our party and even after we complained it did not get warmer and the manager just brushed it off and acted surprised. The utensils were ice frozen when holding it and we were eating with our jackets and at times gloves on. Food was great!
We were recommended this restaurant and we thoroughly enjoyed our meal, service and ambiance. The table side Caesar was a highlight.
Fantastic service right from the start. Wonderful to work with the GM to arrange for specific wishes for our Christmas group of 18...couldnt have been a better evening any other way. Thx Rita and staff!
What a lovely experience!! . Gregory fired up a fab Caesar Salad at the table. Then followed with pro cooked steaks paired with quality Malbec. Thanks to the whole staff!
We had a reservation at David Duncan House in advance, expecting a smooth and enjoyable experience. Unfortunately, it was anything but. When we arrived, we were told there would be a wait. That would have been understandable if it had been brief, but we ended up waiting for over an hour, with no clear communication or indication of when our table would actually be ready. At no point did the staff or management proactively update us on the situation. It wasn t until we decided to leave that the manager approached us, saying, Your table is almost ready, and tried to convince us to stay. By then, we had lost all confidence in their ability to manage reservations properly. This level of disorganization and lack of consideration for guests time is absolutely unacceptable for a restaurant that presents itself as a high-end establishment. A reservation should mean something. This experience was a major disappointment, and we will not be returning.
Good classic spot. Very festive during the holiday season. Staff are knowledgeable and helpful. Food is good. Good spot for private rooms and group dinners.
We were a party of 6 for a birthday celebration. The staff, service and food were all exceptional even on a very busy sunday night. The staff go the extra mile and are very funny and friendly. George our main waiter even gave us the history of the house and was so great with the older family members - checking the food was to their liking. We have been there several times over many years and the experience whether a group of 2 or 10 is always outstanding!
I had high expectations for David Duncan House, but my experience was incredibly disappointing. My party and I were excited to celebrate the holiday season together, having chosen this establishment for its reputation and ambiance. Unfortunately, what should have been festive and enjoyable evening turned into a frustrating ordeal. I had made a reservation and, upon arrival, informed the front host. She assured us it would only be a few minutes. However, we waited over an hour past our reservation time with no communication or updates other than vague assurances of shortly . Each time we inquired, we were brushed off without any real acknowledgment of the delay. When we finally sought out the manager, we were told it would be 5 more minutes . That, too was untrue. After waiting for over an hour and feeling completely disrespected, we decided to leave. Only then did the manager chase us outside, claiming the table was ready. At that point, the damage was done - I expected better from a so called high end establishment. This experience ruined our evening and tainted what should have been a special celebration. It s unacceptable for a restaurant to treat guests this way, especially when reservations are made to avoid such chaos. To anyone considering dining here, I urge you to reconsider unless you are prepared to have your time and plans disrespected. If you aren t seated or acknowledged within 10 minutes of your reservation, don t waste your evening. Highly unprofessional and deeply disappointing.
Absolutely wonderful. The food was delicious, the ambiance was great, and our server, Peter, was amazing. He made our table caesar salad, and it was a show itself. He engaged with us during our dinner, and was always polite and kind. We were here to celebrate a birthday and I definitely recommended this spot. My new favourite steakhouse!
Went for a corporate function today. The Shrimp Tagliatelle was one of the worst I ve ever had. I was astonished at how bad it was considering the calibre of the restaurant. Super disappointed. The calamari was also below average.
Its old school and nostalgic but absolutely amazing. Love it. Been there twice this year and the food is always fantastic. The service is how it should be. At last a place that one pays tip because you are getting real service. The atmosphere is so unique that it gets used in movies. All around a fantastic experience. Price tag is basically +$150 pp
We were at a group dinner in one of the private dining rooms. It was so cold in the room it was ridiculous. The cutlery felt like it had come straight out of a refrigerator. Why not provide space heaters to make the room more comfortable instead of having your guests eat with their coats on? I was not impressed at all. Food was okay, not worth a return trip. Best part of the evening was the people we were with.
Never a bad meal here. Another fantastic night.
A special place. Good service and good food for the cost.
I had a New York steak, but I didn t like the taste or tenderness; it could have been better. I liked the design and the building
DDH = Dont Dine Here! We had come for a date night. The ambiance was beautiful, with gorgeous, ornate fixtures, a grand staircase and set the tone for what should have been a great steak night. It was the opposite of that. It started when the server came to ask about our drinks. I said Im a recovered alcoholic, so no thanks to the wine list. At that, we were offered tap water or bottled sparking water, and nothing else. Next came the ordering. I have a severe dairy allergy, but carry medicine in case and am vocal about my willingness to work with substitutes. I ordered the prime rib and when told of the sides, Yorkshire pudding and pierogies, asked if I could substitute for French fries (an item on the menu). The server said hed ask, but the chef doesnt like to change the how the plate looked. I asked if I could just have the fries, and Id happily pay for them. The server said hed ask and see. He came back to say the chef didnt want to honour the request and would add more broccolini on the side. I wanted to leave but my wife and I were hungry, so we stayed. The food arrived, and as told, there was a lot of broccolini on the plate as well as a lot of fat on the prime rib. Every time we go for steak I get prime rib. I know it can be fatty but this was prime fat with some rib meat. It was the fattiest I have ever had. Part way through a different server asked how we were enjoying the food. We politely asked to speak with the manager. The server asked what was wrong and we explained that due to the dairy allergy, the chefs option provided was not satisfactory. The server left saying hed ask the manager to come to the table. After some 15 minutes the manager came. She blamed the server for his miscommunication as to the side of fries not being orderable. She said shed talk to the server about that. That wasnt the case but she was protective of the chef. She explained the chef didnt like changing things when busy. The place was barely half full at 7pm on a Thursday night; the excuse was a poor substitution for real empathy. She offered to buy us dessert and I said no due to the dairy allergy. She offered berries and seemed proud she had them...no thanks, I had enough broccolini. Just the bill. She expressed her apologies and left. We didnt want anything else. We did make a point to tell the server he wasnt who we were unsatisfied with. He said he understood and we tipped him generously. It was such a frustrating experience we wont be back ever. Do yourself a favour and dont dine here. Dietary restrictions: There arent any although it suggests to let the server know about dietary requirements. It mentioned nothing about a controlling chef telling you what you will eat.
Was a great experience. Good customer service and food
Traditional fine dining experience. The service is exemplary and the space is beautiful. The ceasar salad is out of this world and they make a killer steak. It is our go to spot for special occasions.
Beautiful steak house with great food. We had 2 servers, the main server (James?) Was amazing and very pleasant, the 2nd one was not pleasant at all, no smile, you can see he did not want to be there. I believe he ultimately left mid shift as James became swamped with multiple tables. 4 star goes to James!
I had a group dinner this evening. George and Rita were absolutely amazing! They were adaptable and accommodated everything we needed.
Birthday Dinner for our Son We went to David Duncan to celebrate our son s 20th birthday. We will start with the royal entrance this restaurant offers to its customers. Once we entered - the ambiance is simply fantastic! The mansion atmosphere, soft lighting, and elegant decor create the perfect setting for any special occasion. The food was absolutely delicious, especially steaks and lamb chops are incredibly delicious, and the presentation was top-notch. For dessert we had banana foresters, and it was cooked in front of us. We are still dreaming about our meal at Duncan. Each bite was a delight, and the presentation just blew us away. The service was superb! The restaurant gave a free cake with a candle for the birthday boy, sang happy birthday song! made it more memorable to our son. The staff is friendly, attentive, and goes above and beyond to ensure a memorable dining experience. Kudos to the entire team! The place has plenty of parking. It was a wonderful experience and we will be visiting soon! Shushmita and Nadim
Amazing place and food was great
One of the very best places I dined in în over 30 years
It s amazing ! Everything is Wonderful! Highly recommend the Ice Cream! So delicious! Food
The lamb chops are just cooked perfectly. Nice juicy and great texture, much much better than any restaurant I had in Montreal. Steaks are solid. The boys had filet mignon and ribeye and they loved it! We ll be back!
A little pricey but good vibe for special occasion
Top notch food, service and ambience. My sincere thanks goes to Wayne and went out of his way to make my birthday special, including singing! Update. John was amazing for the second time in a row. Me and my wife really love you and your gentlemanly service. Thank you Food : 5/5
We go to this place to celebrate our anniversary. The decorations of the restaurant is so nice. The waiter John Yianni made excellent table side Cesar salad. The seared scallops taste excellent! The source for the Provimi Veal Chop taste excellent! The pace of serving is proper. The waiter is so helpful and welcoming. We sat at the section of Venetian. We will definitely come visit again!
As always, top ratings in every aspect!
Consistently a good experience. Great wine selection, great service, and the food is always amazing. Be sure to order the table side ceaser salad!
Great atmosphere! Amazing seafood! Food : 5/5
Delicious! The table-side caesar salad is phenomenal. Steaks were also very good. And they were kind enough to bring me a slice of cake for my birthday. I recommend dining here.
The best steak ever! I love this place! food, service, musics and atmosphere are the best!
Ive been here once before, and Im happy to say everything is still on point. Lots of parking available. Lot can be a little dark, though. We arrived about 5 minutes early and asked to wait a few minutes for our table to be ready. Our friends arrived 10 minutes after we were seated. Tables arent too close, and the restaurant itself wasnt overly loud. Our server was attentive but not overly so. His dessert suggestion was fantastic. The food was tasty and cooked well. My prime rib was a little extra fatty for me but cooked perfectly to my liking. My husbands NY Strip was delicious and also cooked perfectly. Rib eye steak was also a little too sinewy and fatty for my friends liking. Loved the pork belly in lieu of bacon bits in the Caesar salad. We stayed for 3 hrs ... chairs have always been comfy. Thank you DDH for another great celebratory meal.
Food was good. We ordered lamb chop and Branzino. Fresh and delicious! Happened to be my husbands birthday, surprised to have a piece of cute cake! Thanks !
Everything about this restaurant is amazing including the decor. Went there in the early 1990s and it was impressive and it has kept the same standards. The maitre d makes sure all his guests are well taken care of
Amazing service
Weird to bother with an accessibility ramp if you re not going to have accessible tables, but I guess if that s the kind of service you want to give it s not surprising that your restaurant is almost empty. Will not be back, will not recommend and would be surprised if they stay in business much longer. Bathroom had one stall and was kind of gross, sink was rusty too. Wheelchair accessibility: None.
It was an absolute pleasure to have dined at David Duncan House. The steak was perfect!
The service was rude, or rather, there was no service at all. The most they did was bring the food you ordered to your table. We came here to celebrate a birthday, but the experience was terrible. As soon as we walked in, the host led us to a corner, even though we had made a reservation two days in advance. What made us the angriest was how differently they treated people of different skin colors! hello excuse me If you re Asian, I advise you not to eat at this restaurant. Even if you pass by the servers, they won t even say bye to you. They sing birthday songs and celebrate for people of the same skin color as them, but for us, they just reluctantly brought the cake and put it on the table nothing more Even though we spent 240 CAD, we still received no service at all We came here before with friends, but I don t understand why things have changed now. We will never come back again. Shame on you!
Spent my mother in laws 75th birthday here. The food was delicious and the service was great. Our server (James?) called all the ladies at the table Lass, and we all loved it. *googly eyes* The server making the dressing was very pleasant and had a great sense of humour. He had good chats with us. Garlic bread to start was pleasantly surprised with how much garlic it had. Apps are quite large, so dont fill up on them. We highly recommend the tableside caesar. There is nothing like it. I had the salmon, and Im not a fan of fish. I was torn between chicken or salmon, Chris recommended the salmon, and it was an excellent recommendation. Keep in mind there is a cake cutting fee. The space we sat got quite busy towards the end, so our cake and coffee service was delayed. We were all having a good time, so the delay wasnt a big deal. Overall, its a great place with good food and service. Definitely on the pricier side. However, it was a perfect place to celebrate such a milestone birthday. Vegetarian options: A few vegetarian options for apps, for the main course it was the usual option of veggie pasta. Im sure they can come up with something more interesting Parking: Parking is available around the building. Wheelchair accessibility: There are a lot of stairs. If you have a wheelchair you will most likely be seated on the main level. There is also a ramp on the outside.
George and John were the best! Which is as much as I can say about the whole experience! Bon appétit!
Quiet, classic & good atmosphere. Surprisingly oysters that we ordered as app was fresh! Rib eye has bit too much fat so was not happy about it but well cooked. Overall it was not bad.
The steak is great, the wine selection strong and firmly within the old world range. The sides did their job. Service was great overall although it got slightly slowed by the distraction of a larger group. It was a bit of a strange choice to seat us (a couple celebrating an anniversary) next to this group of 20 professionals. Overall a very good experience that we look forward to repeating. Its a classic steakhouse experience that transports you back in time but keeps a fresh energy.
The food was amazing and the service was exceptional by Rita! Best dinner I ve ever had, I would definitely be taking my girlfriend back here soon!
The David Duncan House is top notch. The steaks are perfectly cooked and incredibly flavorful, showcasing top-tier quality. The ambiance is elegant yet inviting, and the service is both attentive and knowledgeable. Our server Chris was prompt and the general manager Rita was fantastic to meet. If you re celebrating an occasion or just want to go out for a nice fine dining experience, this is the place to go.
Great food and good service, the best steakhouse in North York
Excellent restaurant, delicious food, generous portions, very polite and attentive staff. Warm and soft Foccacia served when you arrived at your table. Calamari starter was super tender on the inside and crispy on the outside. Caesar salad for 2 made by your table is fresh, dressing was balanced and very tasty candied bacon chunks. Highly recommend prime rib or the halibut. Although the Yorkshire pudding could be a little less dense. For dessert, 100% recommend the banana foster, cooked carefully at your table super delicious, and surprisingly good also was the Ek-mek. There could have been more orange juice in the mocktail orange mule. Very impressed by the front of the house staff service. Very attentive but not overbearing. It did take us a while to order but they were busy on a Saturday night. But once order was in, our food came quickly. Atmosphere was super, beautifully decorated dining room.
We had a group of 14 people. They have to serve the appetizers and main course together, thats why the food is warm and not hot. This time, we only have 4 people. So, the food was hot and yummy.
Very attentive servers, delicious meal.
I went there for my birthday, the food was simply amazing, worth it and the service was awesome must visit place, it s luxurious elegant and delicious Vegetarian options: Penne pasta and feta wrap appetizer
We had a private party. Food was great! Especially their desserts on our menu. Ive never had the desserts anywhere else before. Service was amazing. Servers were always available for us.
I had no idea this place existed, until yesterday. From the time I parked my car in the very spacious parking lot, I was very impressed with the structure and was intrigued and looking forward to discovering more. After entering through the heavy wooden door, I was amazed at the decor and ambience. We were greeted very graciously and led to our table, up two flights of stairs. The layout was very pleasing and did not feel crowded. The food was superb. Portions were very generous and notably, the staff were very attentive and always present when you need them but, non-intrusive and not always buzzing around your table. They were very personable and added levity and conversation to our evening. By the time we finished our dinner, the place was quite full, YET, not loud or noisy. Did not notice how full it got till we stood up to leave. Definitely recommended to visit and I will be going back there very soon :). I would even include this on my list of regular places for dinner. Thank you for a lovely evening Rita
Great experience! Thank you!
Cant say enough great things about this restaurant. This is the second time Ive been a guest here and the experience was top notch.
My siblings and I just hosted 21 people for a dinner party to celebrate my Mums 80th birthday, in the McLaughlan room within the restaurant. Everything was absolute perfection. Rita helped plan the evening , answered every email and phone call and was so accommodating and fantastic to work with. The bar staff for our cocktail hour were incredible - aside from the well crafted beautiful cocktails, they were fun personable polite and very attentive. The wait staff led by John, provided top notch first class service for our dinner. Nothing was rushed, water and wine was attended to from appetizers through to coffee and dessert. The food was incredible. We chose the most expensive set menu so our guests had choices to suit every palate and the food was outstanding. Everyone has raved about the meal, the location, and the elegance. Don t hesitate to book a private function at this gem within the city, it will be an evening to remember. Parking: This restaurant is located on its own large property with plenty of free parking.
The meal was excellent. The scallop appatiser was possibly the best we tasted. The only downside was the family with the infant in a stroller. Food : 5/5
Having previously come here during a wedding celebration I was just waiting for the right moment to come back. And it did not disappoint. The food was amazing and there are not enough stars to give for the treatment. It does not matter if its your first or 10th time here. They make you feel like youre here every other week. Did I mention the food was amazing? Kid-friendliness: Service is super attentive and puts everyone at ease. Adult or kid. They are very good at what they do.
Exquisite
The atmosphere is great and the waiters I met were also nice. The lobster pasta is average, the steak is okay
This is place not for ordinary people you really have to have money in your pocket to be here. It pricy, but you want to calm atmosphere this is it. The food was good but one person alone with a non alcoholic drink was $94.00. Was only because it was for a friend.
Steak had no crust, was very bland, tasted broiled. I ve honestly had better steak on a Friday night at moxies..
Always a great time.
Wonderful fine dining experience. Very experienced hosts and servers, the service was top tier. Atmosphere is cozy, quaint, romantic and electric. The food was excellent, steaks done to your preference and served hot. Absolutely enjoyed the bananas foster. Would 100% return.
I visited this place twice for birthday dinner with friends. Its fine dining and a bit pricy .overall its a very nice place if youre on a budget make sure u check out the menu and price before you visit. Great for all of your special occasions
It is my pleasure to have dinner with my family tonight at David Duncan house. Excellent customer service, food is delicious. Thank you to everyone who serves us tonight.
What an amazing night. When you first rock up to this place you think cute place, lets go inside and then BAM. This place hits you with insane decor, something out of a movie to be honest. I was seriously surprised the place wasnt wall to wall instagram influencers. Anyway our waiter was Wayne. If you ever come across him ask him for recommendations. This man knows the menu and every time we listened to him we were not disappointed. He told us the baklava cheesecake was heaven and we all thought that was an exaggeration. Not true! It was sinfully delicious! Everything from the appetizers to the main course was incredibly well done and super tasty. If Im ever in Toronto Im going here.
I went here with my boyfriend for my birthday! The servers are incredibly disorganized, everything is mixed up, the older gentleman was a sweetheart but the guy that took our order was the rudest person ever, not even rude more as if he had an attitude talking to us. Not to mention he got our drink orders wrong and was upset with us about his own mistake?? I work as a server myself and could genuinely never dream of acting like this towards a customer. They do offer a free ice cream for birthdays tho!
We always have a good time and delicious meals when we go to David Duncan house. We celebrated both mine and my husbands birthday s this year I May and July. Highly recommend you try David Duncan House. The service is excellent.
I m writing this review in the car ride home from coming to this restaurant for my boyfriend and I s anniversary - this was the best restaurant both of us have ever been to. Wayne and John showed us an incredible experience and served us with the utmost respect and genuine kindness. The atmosphere was incredible, and we have never had better food our lives. John made our Caesar salad in front of us, a super unique experience that ended up tasting incredible. Our main courses were perfect, and the baklava cheesecake was probably the best thing I have ever put in my mouth. Thank you Wayne and John, it was an incredible night.
Have heard about this place from friends but finally had had a chance to try. The service was amazing and everything we ordered tasted great. Would definitely come back. We loved the liver, ribeye and scallops. Would recommend the liver as a dish to share though as it is very rich. A must order is also the Cesar salad. It is made table side and the sauce is presented beautifully (you ll know what I mean when you order it). The place also has lots of parking.
Went there with a large group to celebrate a birthday. The women handling reservations clearly doesn t take food allergies seriously. Was incredibly rude to myself and the other person planning the event. Our server was phenomenal, friendly, attentive he alone deserves 5 stars. But our experience before we had even had our dinner was soured by her behaviour.
Great vibes, loved the vibes and atmosphere. Good was ok, very mid for steak house, portions were amazing
Wayne and the Team provided incredible service. The food was truly delicious and the desserts creative. The ratings and reviews for the David Duncan House were so right!
This has been our staple place for our anniversary for a few years now. What was nice tonight as our waiter was the guy that served us a few years back remembered us even remembered why we were there. I was very impressed. But this place is outstanding.
Went here for a birthday celebration. The ambiance was top notch. You d never know the interior is beautiful if you judge it from the outside. As for food, I wasn t the biggest fan of their shrimp pasta loved the shrimp but not so much the other ingredients that went with it. My boyfriend had the prime rib steak and wow! definitely recommend. I d go back to DDH just for the steak. Staff were nice and attentive. It took awhile to attend to us but it s understandable because the place did get busy. Overall, I highly recommend if you re looking for a place that stands out with food and ambiance.
The food was perfect and atmosphere was lovely reminiscent of old school charm with modern sophistication well pitched background music. The service was too tier .
The food and service were excellent.
This place is a hidden gem with very attentive staff. The food was delicious and reasonably priced. Everything on the menu is great, but the table side Caesar salad, Branzino and prime rib are a must try!
A delightful family dinner. Beautiful steakhouse, fine cuts meat, variety seafood and wines options. The steaks are flavorful and juicy. Chicken tastes are great just a little to the dry side. Warm hospitality with attentive staff. Great experience filled with good atmosphere.
Unbelievably terrible! Fine dining restaurant? I suggests to all readers to find another restaurant to dine in, because the steak and seafood pasta that was served to us was awful. The rib eye steak was very tough, its like chewing on rubber bands. Basically, they were serving us a gristle steak. The pasta was undercooked that I had abdominal pain afterwards. To be fair, the server did offered to recooked the food. But, what are they recooking? Cartilage? Oh, come on. The so called Rib Prime steak was beyond ridiculous. How can a fine dining restaurant serve something like this on a table? Its an embrassment. The appetitizers were the only edible food, though nothing special about the calamari and the shrimp. I do not recommend anyone coming here, because it wil be a disappointment.
I went with my family for my sisters graduation dinner. This place is truly beautiful, the staff oozed with customer service. I had the veal. It was incredible. Honestly I felt a bit underdressed because of how fancy it was. But regardless a great dinner was had.
Came here to celebrate Fathers day for my dear hubby and son. Service is always top notch, food is always very good and fresh. Too bad I was not notified in advance that there would not be any tableside offerings that day!! We always get the tableside Ceasar and the dessert. We were only notified when we came in and sat at our table. I understand that its Fathers Day and have limited sitting but perhaps in the near future when your confirming reservations let the customer on the other line know on certain days you will not be offering such and such . Still great service and food !! Will def be back !
Good food, slightly expensive, good dining experience. Wayne was a great waiter, and made the experience great. Hes very attentive and helpful
Excellent food and services, but a little bit expensive.
Excellent service, food and atmosphere. Rib Steak was flavourful and prepared as requested, medium. The special for the evening, risotto with grilled lamb was delicious. Complimentary birthday dessert was an unexpected delight. The calamari and caesar salad prepared table side were delicious.
At David Duncan House, luxury meets culinary excellence. From the attentive service to the impeccable dishes, dining here is a true indulgence, An unforgettable meal in an elegant setting is guaranteed every time. Peter, our charming waiter, enhanced the experience with a complimentary Chocolate Hazelnut Torte, making our visit truly memorable. This culinary symphony, combined with flawless service, crafts a portrait of luxury that will linger in memory for years to come. Parking: Free and plenty parking lots
The food was great, and customer service
Had a great evening. Thank you for the team success.
A fantastic dining experience in a historic setting! Great food, fabulous service from this higher end restaurant. Roast beef or steak are the go to dishes for me here. I usually do not make a reservation unless it s the weekend. Lots of parking on site. Nice patio setup outside that s a great place to be in nice weather.
The food and value for what you get is great. Incredible service (John and the team never disappoint) and amazing ambience. My go to restaurant! Everyone I bring loves it
Our server was very friendly and courteous. Incorporated with great food, excellent quality in every aspect.
Amazing place! The staff was very friendly and accommodating
As always, an exceptional experience. From the staff, to the food to the ambiance... A fabulous place to have a great meal. :)
High end restaurant with professional staff, great ambience, delicious food and high quality drinks. I highly recommend if you want to have a unique experience. Food
Sat there for 20 minutes, place was empty and no one even came to take my order! Worst service ever! Had staff standing around doing nothing and still couldn t even come take our order. Huge waste of time. Buncha lazy retards in there
Loved the place. Awesome food and ambience. Good selection of wine. Wayne made the old fashioned just as I asked. I would highly recommend the place.
Big thanks to wayne for making our night, fantastic food and the nicest first experience at a restauraunt i could ve asked for. Looking forward to coming back.
The light was very dark, we made a reservation and arrived at the restaurant on time. Although there were empty tables, we were still asked to wait at the door. The food presentation was anything but refined and the steak was even bitter. In the end, the bill was given incorrectly, which was really bad.
My boyfriend and I went to the David Duncan House for our anniversary. This is the best restaurant we have ever been to. The service and food were amazing, the waiters were always prompt and ready to serve. Our food was cooked to perfection. We would like thank Rita and our waiter Chris for such an amazing night. We will definitely be coming back!
I ordered the prime rib roast and it was abysmal. I asked for medium and it was barely cooked and lacked any flavour. The steak knives they give you are cheap and I could barely cut the steak. The horseradish was also garbage. My husband ordered the ribeye. It was better than the roast but thats not saying much. It appeared to be a cheap cut of meat. The Keg is 1000 times better than this place. Will not return and do not recommend to anyone.
Excellent meal and service. A bit pricy, but well worth it. One of the best table side Ceasar salads Ive ever had.
Old-fashioned, elegant surroundings and consistently great food since the first I ate here about 15 years ago. Service is attentive, kind and prompt.
overpriced garbage, waste of property most importantly, they practice white supremacy in this place Food
The clam chowder soup and calamari were amazing. The steak wasnt bad but could use a little more seasoning and a little more well cooked but overall it was great
Excellent portions. Absolutely delicious. Parking: Front and side lots Kid-friendliness: Open to kids Wheelchair accessibility: Ramps
Ive been coming to Duncan house for over 15 years and Ive never been once disappointed. For me what makes this place what are the best in Toronto are the servers.
For the price, the food and service was not what I would have expected. I would not return.
Very good for cozy gatherings, fine dining, the vibe is very positive here
Great place. Really great staff. The location is amazing. All our food was great but the prime rib was actually a bit off. It was over cooked and poorly cut. Other than that everything was amazing.
Amazing.
Excellent service! Try their lamb and ask for their famous wine. :)
Celebrated our anniversary! Loved the ambience, food & service. Definitely coming again!
I had my birthday here and everything was exceptional. Will most definitely be returning.
Amazing atmosphere! Great staff. Even better food. Most underrated place that s 10x better than the keg. Wife took me here for my birthday and felt ever so special. Will definitely come back. cheers ! Food
Had our anniversary dinner here. We have been to many steak restaurants in the city and we really enjoy our meal here. Will def be back
A great place for dating
Great service, stunning atmosphere. The food was amazing.
My gf took me here for a celebratory dinner. Its located right near the Don Mills and York Mills Rd intersection and sits next to the Ontario Association of Architects building. Its got ample parking and the house doesnt look that big from the outside but its actually massive inside. In addition, they have a huge patio as well. We arrived for a 6:30pm res and were seated promptly by the hostess. Having gone on the restos official website, going through the virtual tour and then experiencing the decor first hand was really cool. I think theres 3 levels to the resto. We were sat on the lower level. 8oz bacon wrapped filet mignon: My gf said her entree was cooked perfectly and the peppercorn sauce that it came with was nice and creamy. Shes not the biggest fan of veggies but she was appreciative of the fact that the meal came w/ broccolini and not broccoli lol. It also came w/ some onion rings. Her filet was extremely tender and juicy. 16oz ribeye steak: My entree came w/ the same default sides and it was also cooked to a perfect medium rare. I do wish from a sides perspective there wouldve been more choice/options provided given that it is a steakhouse. Bananas foster (for 2): For dessert my gf and I indulged in some bananas foster. The older, portly gentleman who cooked the bananas and flambéed the rum for us was pretty funny. The liquor didnt catch fire the first time so he added an extra shot to get it to catch LOL. That was a nice show and hilarious. Service as a whole was quite good. Our server for the night did have a drier sense of humour but that couldve just been nerves. When it comes to fine dining, the closest comparison I have to this resto is Peters in Markham. The Duncan House itself is way nicer than Peters (super luxurious washrooms I might add). Theres a lot more seating, the decor is modern and the lighting is great. The bananas foster was better in comparison. The resto is also much more affordable than Peters! Aside from these things, Peters still sits on the throne for me when it comes to service and food. A good dining experience overall!
Celebrate birthday delicious foods, steak came with horseradish with vinegar duck breast mashed potatoes with white truffle, really surprised and nice also little birthday cake by sincerely thanks David Duncan Food
Came back in August for a birthday dinner. I cant believe this beautiful building is tucked away from the busy roads by Don Mills/York Mills. The number of times Ive driven by and never knew this was here House Garlic Bread French Onion Soup Tableside Caesar Salad for 2 Rib Steak New York Striploin Hazelnut Cake Might be one of the best french onion soups Ive ever had The table side ceaser was a lovely show and was so good especially with the pork belly bacon!! The steaks were cooked perfectly, very juicy and full of grill flavours. Cant wait to come back another day and try more of the menu! The service was amazing
We had the table side Caesar salad, which was the best Caesar salad I ve ever had. Especially loved the thick cut bacon that s mixed in. The seared scallops were also wonderful. Only complaint for the appetizers was the salad wasn t really made table side, but in the opposite corner of the room. Our mains were a bit disappointing. Overcooked (we asked for medium/medium-rare and when we told the server, he didn t do anything but say it looks right . We also found our dishes very salty.
3/5 overall. Went here for my anniversary dinner, the host was very helpful as was the staff at the bar. Our server was great, gave us recommendations. However the food tasted of nothing. You can tell they use quality ingredients, but they re quite skimpy with any seasoning. I think the calamari sauce was the tastiest thing we ate. Drinks were average.
Love the food and service here!
I can not say how much I love this place; it is stunning, delicious and lovely. I have no regrets at all You must try Food : 5/5
This place truly deserves 5 star in every category. We were there for my GF birthday and from the helpful and professional staff to the great food that served and the very interesting interior and atmosphere of the place everything was amazing. Will be there again soon.
Great place to celebrate at...
Fine Dining at its finest. Dress well because it is a little fancy here. Price is expensive, but if you can afford it and want to celebrate a special occasion, this would be the place.
The table side Caesar salad is the best I have tried so far! It is a must try!!! I also love their rib eye steak. Highly recommended!
We celebrated my birthday at David Duncen House, and it was a mixed experience. The steak and lobster tail were both fantastic, cooked to perfection. The onion soup had a unique taste, not quite what I expected, but it was alright. However, the cocktails were disappointing - small in size for the price and lacked any wow factor. Service was mediocre, likely due to a party happening that night. It seemed like everyone was preoccupied, resulting in long waits whenever we needed something. Despite this, the ambiance of the place is lovely, making it a great choice for special occasions.
Ordered the halibut as main course. The white bechamel sauce tasted like flour. There was no flavour. It tasted like glue. The Caesar Salad was ordinary with no taste. We had to ask for freshly ground pepper both times for salad and main course. When you pay those high prices you expect quality. We used to go every Valentine s Day for dinner. Will not be returning to this establishment.
First time at David Duncan House. Food was great and so was the atmosphere. Our server was impatient with us and we had to ask for items at least three times. Not sure if I would go back...
The food and service were exceptional. I would definitely recommend the David Duncan House to anyone looking for an amazing dinner experience.
This restaurant is listed as a stake house but it s not a very good one. The stake was rather lacking in flavour and to my repulse was served with onion rings. Many of the menu items, particularly in the mains, do not list a description for what they come with. Overall the mains are disappointing, especially for the high price. The restaurant is also listed as business casual but that rule is not enforced. Many customers just walk in as if it s any old restaurant off the side of the street. There were quite a lot of children that dined here, which is odd for a restaurant that appears on the outside to be close to fine dinning. It s almost like a Chucky Cheese. The decor is beautiful, as the whole building is designed with elaborate architecture. The appetizers are good and the desert is amazing. The service is good but all over the place. There isn t one server for your table which is a bit odd. The sign in front of the bathroom is extremely corny and overall the restaurant seems like it tries to give a fine dining experience without any rules or standards, not taking itself seriously. I honestly wouldn t see myself ever coming back here again due to the lack of interest I have in the main courses, partly because of the high prices. I expected a fine dinning like experience and was sorely disappointed with the result.
The Duncan House was my fathers favorite restaurant when he was alive. Sadly he passed away on Christmas morning 2023. My mother called the restaurant today to get some information as our hope was to book a lunch reservation for 25 to 30 people after dads funeral in a week or so. Instead of information, my grieving mother got a lecture from the staff member (for calling without a firm date). To add insult to injury the staff member hung up on my mom! I dont expect restaurant staff to be grief counselors but some common decency would be nice. Customer service is important. If you treat people poorly they will not come to your restaurant.
It s a good place and has a lot of potential. Would love to see some soul put into the house to make it a five star experience and justify the pricey rates.
Great food , awesome staff , luxury experience , great steak
Good waiters with a nice attitude . Vegetarian options: Asparagus Dietary restrictions: Less salt Parking: Right opposite the restaurant Kid-friendliness: Kids memu
Long time customer, 15+ yrs. Fabulous everything. Try the table side caeser salad, best in Toronto, even supercedes Jacobs caeser! Food
Excellent! Food, atmosphere, service was fantastic.
My wife and I dined twice during the Xmas and New Year holiday. Service is excellent. We particularly loved the Ceasar Salad served by the table. The lamb rack is also very good. The waiter Wayne provided very good advice and helped us choose from the desert menu. Banana foster prepared by the table is outstanding. We will return many times.
The ambiance was absolute gorgeous. Victorian-style decor. From the young lady at the front to greet us to the 3-4 (John and Ray) servers that we had were all extremely professional, welcoming and customer service-centred. I had scallops and oysters to start. AMAZING! Tender and succulent. Main dish was a whole dish (benzino) which already came with sides of broccolini and asparagus. Lobster tail. Yum. Which was ample I didnt have to order a side of mash potatoes. Lol. Alas, the servings are PLENTIFUL. The to dessert I ordered baklava ice-cream WOW, the were an astonishing 3 scoops!! . Hands down top 3 restaurants in the GTA Parking: Plentiful and FREE
Very cozy restaurant, great food, and awesome service. Will definitely come back.
After many years we went back to this restaurant and found that the food was still prepared to perfection however the service was lacking in personality. The waiters at this restaurant seem disengaged and lifeless.
Great experience! Totally recommend, we appreciate for making delicious caeser salad . Recommending to trying TABLE SIDE CAESAR SALAD FOR 2 . The best restaurant in Ontario, I recommend to all your events and moments instead any places.
Definitely great atmosphere specially for corporate events or meetings, very professional staff and service, however as a Steakhouse I was expecting better quality of steak for the price. We tried a few different cuts and they all could have been better
Absolutely good place to go.
I am a regular guest of Duncan House. The last time I was at Duncan House with my family on 30/12/2023. The food was as always ... great! Service and atmosphere amazing!
We went there with my partner. The steak was not properly cooked, however one of the waiters was very nice and took it back to the kitchen but it wasn t still chewable! The other waiter who brought the bill was rude! he was laughing and joking with the table next to us but when he came to us was treating us as if the tip we wanted to pay was less worthy than the others tips! At the end he told us whatever you have it planned for the weekend, enjoy it
(Keep reading..why a 2 rating despite great food and overall service... the waitors were amazing and so was the food and wine..but the hostess (she said she was Lebanese but I forgot her name) was rude when we entered..almost seemed racist... spoke pretty harshly... we almost left.. anyways.. maybe she was having a bad day..we recommed this place
If you are looking for an exceptional dining experience with outstanding service, the David Duncan House is the place to be. They have an amazing general manager Rita. Her commitment to maintaining the highest standards of service is commendable and undoubtedly contributes to the restaurants success. I look forward to returning to indulge in the culinary delights and hospitality that make this restaurant a true standout in the area.
Great food, staff were amazing!
My favourite restaurant in the city. Always makes me feel like home.
Good people and food Kid-friendliness: Very friendly Food : 5/5 |
Loved our dinner at DDH! The food was spectacular, and the service was outstanding. We met the general manager Rita and she was such a pleasure! I will definitely be returning
Great food and service. The atmosphere is pleasant and quiet. Dietary restrictions: Very accommodating for all dietary restrictions. Parking: Parking is easy. Kid-friendliness: Not kid friendly.
Food was decent and the staff were very friendly and attentive both times I ve been there. The restaurant is also very accommodating to big groups. Would definitely recommend.
