105 Parkway Forest Dr #5, North York, ON M2J 1L8, Canada
Traditional Pakistani & Indian barbecue & dessert spot serving halal fare amid spacious surrounds.
My first time and last time to come here very bad experience I been waiting for 30 minutes and I was told that they are out of poutine. Even though I already paid. And he didn't wash his hands and there's 5 customers he is on his phone I have pics of him doing this all too .
I left the store giving them a 2 star but by the time i got home i wanted to give them a 0 star. Other then the fact i had to get up 4 times because service was lacking, the food was also terrible. (Had to get up 4 times because i wasent given my drinks, straw are behind the counter, needed more napkins because i wasent given only 2, and no dine in ketchup available for tables) Only edible item was the cassava fries and thats probably because its literally fried cassava.. the kebab were sizzling as if it was fresh but the actual kebabs were extremely dry, tough, and tasted like there was more daal then meat… we were very hungry and hate to waste food so we tried our best to finish but it just caused us to have really bad indigestion near the end of the night (biggest regret). Im so glad i didnt try anything else like butter chicken and biryani. Naan was just OK. Will not be coming back, sorry.
I ordered the beef kabob with naan. Food was overall good, but very bare bones for what you're paying. They don't provide salad with the order like they use to, and only provided a small sauce for a $40 order. The value has dropped quite a bit which is a shame because they used to be a staple beside the old Iqbal Halal Foods back in Thorncliffe. Nowadays you can get more with your money at other restaurants.
We ordered halwa puri. Worst ever tasted!! Felt bad quality oil smell and service also not good. But karrak tea was good!! Water jug and plates are disgusting!!!
Our first time here trying Nihari and paaye and it exceeded expectations. The taste was authentic and everything tasted freshly made. The naans were soft and fresh out of tandoor. Definitely give it a try. There’s no service and not many staff working here so there are delays but overall we had a wonderful experience. Masala tea is really good too.
The interior is nice and clean. The food was honestly really good, one of the best briyanis I’ve had from a restaurant. Will be coming here again to satisfy a desi food craving.
For the most part everything was good. The food was tasty and the premises were clean. The issue that I had was that management should take note that their POS machine is programmed to ask for tips yet there is no table service that was found. The customer has to go to the counter to collect their food so it does not make sense that the customer should be given options for tipping specific amounts starting from 15%. It would be appropriate to ask first whether the customer wants to leave a tip and then specify the amount if a customer still wants to leave a tip. We went ahead and tipped the 15% thinking that we would be served yet no service. Just left a bad taste no pun intended. The establishment should clearly have posters that there is NO table service so the customer can make an informed decision.
Great ambiance and service at the Restaurant. The interiors and live Paan counter is the ex factor of this place. I had taken away food several times for lunch. the lunch meals are amazing. However I am a bit disappointed with the dinner I had recently. The taste wasn't good as per the price. I had butter chicken that we requested to be spicy but it tasted like a dessert. The tandoori chicken wings were too salty and it tasted really pathetic.
Worst service and some food too. Bihari with no lemon. Naans roti with no foil paper. Charged me $25 for two naans n Bihari with poor customer service. Worst among all Pakistani restaurants. Next time I m going to Patna kabab. No more business from me to Iqbal Kabab.
Good food but pricey !! There are better options with same quality but for lesser price.
Good food.
I tried their halwa puri Loved it! Food : 5/5
Unexpectedly, it s a good restaurant.
Always busy . But they have everything for Indian groceries.
I took 2 shawarma and for almost $20 just got salad and few onion one pickle and few bite of chicken Any body pl make sure you pay for shawarma not for salad Food
I got Falafel from there. I asked the old man for two. He was forcing me to atleast have4. I have had to tell him several times that I want to try first. Then comes the Flafel he asked me if I want sauce I said yes pls put it on the side. He put it all over the Flafel. My friend doesnt like sauce with it and I do. So I said I didnt ask to put on it. He then became rude and said WE DONT GIVE SAUCE WITH FLAFEL I PUT IT AS FAVOUR .. I was shocked. Maybe he doesnt know how Flafel s are served. My friend couldnt try. I would have taken maybe12 more but Ijust walked away after making payment for two.
I barley give low reviews but the meat is really bad and for some reason they give a lot of rice and very little meat.
We went in around 10am to get the breakfast special . The restaurant was empty so we seated ourselves at a table for 4 with the permission of receptionist . While we were having our food the waitress/receptionist asked us to move tables since there was a 7 member party expected to arrive . Out of courtesy our whole family moved to another table . While moving the plates one of the plate fell and we lost most of the food to this move . Disappointed with the incident we reach out to the waitress and tell her that moving tables wasn t required since the expected party hadn t arrived yet and expecting that with the food dropped if we could get a replacement or a polite acknowledgment . She said we chose to move and dropped her plate so there s no reason to share feedback . We asked to speak with the owner but looks like the kitchen manager showed up saying that since we paid the bill they can t compensate us but he acknowledged the bad customer service . This is one of the classic cases of where customer just needs an acknowledgment of the bad service but restaurants have hired such egoistic unprofessional staff that they don t bother to speak to the situation . We understand Iqbal serves niche products and may have a very loyal customer base but if they try to work on customer service skills and hiring better people I feel the community can benefit from it.
Everything was delicious.. We ordered a big take our order and all our guests from out of town enjoyed the food.. The receptionist was very patient and gave me good suggestions.. This is our favorite restaurant for many years..
I recently tried the shawarma from this place, but it didnt quite meet expectations. The dish I received was more of a chicken wrap rather than the traditional shawarma I was hoping for. The flavors were not reminiscent of authentic shawarma, so if youre looking for a genuine shawarma experience, this isnt the spot. It might be suitable if youre just looking for a quick bite to satisfy your hunger, but it falls short for those seeking an authentic shawarma flavor.
the food and service is good. the seating and atmosphere could have been better. but no complain for a quick desi food. Dietary restrictions: halal
We had breakfast, Halwa puri was full of oil , I had heartburn and disturbance in the stomach. Worst unhealthy food, not recommended.
Locality is Good and Safe
Food is decent. We got the beef ribs and fries, dumplings, and kati rolls.
One and only vest briyani place i have ever tried and since i am a briyani lover this place is my go to place
Wrost customer service ever. Upon arrival, the staff member at the counter took our order without informing us that the restaurant would be closing shortly. Just a few minutes later, she hurried everyone there by stating they will be closing in 10 minutes. It is not appropriate to rush customers who are in the middle of their meal and enjoying their food. If time were an issue, our order should not have been accepted. Many of them started to pack their food, and they asked for extra money for that too. Furthermore, no water was provided with our meal. And when we attempted to wash our hands in the main floor washbasin, we were directed to use a different one downstairs, despite all others using the main washbasin. The explanation given was that those individuals were elders, which we accepted, but the overall treatment was unfair.
SCAM ALERT!! For one vegetable samosa, these folks are charging $1.99 Inflation is a reality but they are ripping you out. Food
Very bad customer service, the cashier lady was being very rude to customer. Shouting at customers, not listening to them, not polite and more Food was okay but quantity was less compared to other stores and limited options. Food
Quality has gone down. The rice has a distinctly bad taste.
Worst service for a restaurant, 30 plus minutes for take out order and cold food served
Worst customer service, deliberately kept us waiting for more than 30 minutes and served cold food
Not worth the hype!!! Found lots of awesome reviews on this spot and planned to try .. but we walked into an empty space!! Chana was bland and tasted like a boiled one. Even my seven year old found something is odd with the Oil. Felt like used oil in every thing. Even halwa tested oil!!! Paid 4 dollar extra for a potato gravy, the only thing with some spices. No drinking water if you are not asked for!!! Water Jug and plates are disguising!!! Worst customer service !!!! Looks like I paid $70 for a delicious tea and some oily junk
It s the worst place to spend money for food, you can go Darband Restaurant with the same price but the quality is way better than this place.
Food is not bad but some items are just okay. Like got veggie samosas they were horrible made with frozen mised veggies and had no taste . And it was 2$ i think 1 samosa . I have trued sone other items those are okay like halwa puri and naan.
They have shifted the stores to west forest park area of North york slightly increased the prices compared to last time and store is also little smaller
Pathetic customer service. First they forget to send half order, next day they again miss items. After 10 calls, they say they will issue refund. After 10 days, no refund. Please avoid if you can.
Food was amazing and well priced! Their halwa poori is so good! Their tandoori chicken and butter naan are amazing. Definitely recommend for breakfast/brunch/lunch Food : 5/5
Small place next to the famous Iqbals Foods grocery store, quite crowded, thanks to Iqbal Foods, which makes parking quite difficult. Had their Nihari which was on point and would definitely come again for it, their Haleem was ordinary (quite heavy on the Garam Masala). Great service and decent amount of indoor seating available too.
Had a combo Nihair + 2 Naan + 2 Chicken Kebob + 2 pops for $30. I think price is really good for the amount of food these days. Nihari is very good. Lots of meat, I would say more than other place. Great food. Service - The lady was nice and professional but this is the type of place where you pay first and pick up your food from the counter. No after service, you have to ask for anything you need. You have to pay upfront at the time of order. The machine gives choice to pay tips. Usually tips depends on service provided. I dont see the point of paying tips upfront, it takes away the incentive for providing better service. Overall good place. I will go back again.
Portion is wayyyyyyy too small for the price. Small container of chili chicken for $16.50 without rice is crazy
Ordinary food with garbage service Guys we were there on April 10/24 at around 6:45pm to pick up 25 naans that we pre-order, asked the Indian girl with the scarf on the cash and instead of helping us out she started making sarcastic and weird faces and kept mute, I didnt at all understand the reason of her bad attitude
Friendly
Our 2nd visit at Iqbals. Nice food and good service Both the ladies (At the counter and service) were very nice and courteous. Food : 4/5
Had lunch here today Wait time was 15-20mins We ordered a beef shwarma and karahi chicken with naan and masala tea Its pricey for a small restaurant but the food was good
Jalebi is not at all good. It doesnt taste like jalebi
My best
I ordered the Karahi Goat Curry, which I found to be quite overpriced considering its quality and portion size. The quantity was insufficient, even for one person, which was disappointing. I have fond memories of their old location near Don Mills and Eglinton, which perhaps set my expectations high. Unfortunately, the meat in the curry was undercooked, detracting significantly from the overall experience. Given these factors, I am hesitant to return.
Its good for Indian and Pakistani grocery and attached restaurant is good for halwa Puri...we tried their biryani and ras malai ..it was ok
I had their tandoori fish combo and it was quite nice. Light, fluffy, spicy, and not full of grease. Sweet red spicy sauce it came with was nice. 15 min wait a little long but was worth and Ill back.
Good overall
yummy
They almost have everything of Pakistani food amazing place feels like home
Lately I have seen a remarkable change on the freshness of the food here, tried their paya which was amazing today but was all over early today understandably if it tasted so good and had to opt for the Nihari which was equally amazing in taste. My suggestion to the owner is put an initiative or charge for ppl who occupy the tables unnecessarily, today we had a group of ladies occupy a huge portion of the place and sat for hours chatting unnecessarily of things like if their passed away what should their husband do . They should realize of the business loss they are causing during this difficult times, the poor young ladies serving them did their best in getting the msg accros, but still they did not move, with elderly ppl coming in looking for pla e and customers forced to do a takeaway rather then enjoy a Sunday meal indoors.
Disappointing Dining Experience at Iqbals North York Location On Saturday, December 30th, I visited Iqbals North York location for dinner, prompted by the closure of the Thorncliffe branch. Unfortunately, the evening was marred by a series of disappointing events: Order Error and Substitution: We ordered 2 paya dishes, nan, mogo, and plain rice, amounting to $54.85 in cash. Upon reaching our table, we realized that the cashier had mistakenly punched in Nihari instead of paya. When we informed her of the error, she explained that they were out of paya. Opting to cancel the order, we chose 2 plates of Beef ribs and fries in addition to the mogo. Delayed and Unsatisfactory Food: Despite the long wait, only the mogo was served promptly. However, the beef ribs were significantly delayed. Upon arrival, the ribs were disappointingly cold, dry, and chewy far from our expectations. Regrettably, we decided not to consume the dish. Poor Service and Communication: We also ordered plain dal with nan, a transaction totaling $12.45 in cash. Despite our multiple requests for onions, chilies, and lemon, it took three reminders, and on the fourth occasion, I had to personally approach the staff. Its important to note that the restaurant was not particularly busy during this time, raising concerns about the competence of their service. Comparison with Thorncliffe Location: This experience highlighted a significant disparity in service between the Thorncliffe and North York locations. Unfortunately, based on the service received, I cannot recommend the North York location, and I have no intention of returning. In conclusion, this visit to Iqbals North York was a great disappointment, and I hope that this feedback contributes to improvements in their service quality.
The best butter chicken I ever had. And there tea was Soooo rich! And this coming from a non tea or coffee drinker lol
Must try combo
Disgusting place 16 minutes wait just for samosas
Chicken Biryani is decent but if could give negative stars for chicken tikka masala I would. Same thing happened when I bought paneer dish in the past. seems like they dont know anything other than biryani. 01/15/2024: Biryani is serious downhill now too. 12+tax dollar biryani comes with one small chicken drumstic. Its a scam. Boss increase the price if cant afford to put chicken but dont scam people like that.
Happy to visit here.
There was a bunch of small hair when I called they did not listen and when I asked that I will complaint about it to food health and safety. They said go ahead worst customer service ever rude employees
Got the Butter Chicken, Lamb Biryani, Garlic Naan. It was amazing. Best food I have ever had. So flavourful and huge portions. Worth the travel.
The halwa puri is very average. The Chana and aloo are tasteless and completely bland, so is the halwa.
Great food taste like home great service too. We also did catering for 80 people lots of food and everyone in our part was very happy with the taste.
Aways enjoy their fresh and sizzling BBQ Chicken leg !!
Shawarma is the worst. No taste of shawarma at all. Just like eating parata
Biryani is good but not excellent. Qty was good. Halwa puri is good
Ordered Haleem and it took more than 30 mins even though they said less than 10 mins. It cost around 20 CAD. I would have been okay with it if the haleem was good. Turned out this was the worst haleem I have ever had.
Love the biryani.
We went as a large group on a long weekend. Service was slow. Food wasn t great.
Our go-to place for Biryani, reasonable price with big portion.
Sorry, but the measley quantity was laughable... except we were the ones paying $19 for this kabob dinner, so its likely the owners who were the ones laughing! With so many kabob and Biryani places within a stones throw, why would anyone come here to pay a lot and get the inverse? We just happened to be going to a business nearby, and my wife fondly remembered Iqbals from many years back. Well, the past shall hereinafter remain just that.
Amazing taste and the waiters are amazing. Highly recommended
We ordered aachari beef, bihari kabobs n lahori kabob combo but lahori kabob combo was average rest of food was really good love the butter naan. But ambiance n atmosphere was so dead may be ramadan.
Iqbal kebab is the best restaurant, we use to eat paya every time that is delicious .
tasteless
My go to place for tandoori roti / naan and their combos with chicken leg / chicken tikka platter / rusmisay chicken/ Lahori beef kebab
Nihari wasn t fresh. Got stomach problem.
The quality of food is very poor and Nihari is not fresh may be cooked 3 days ago!! Behaviour of staff is very rude
Great location. Easy park. Plenty of space inside. Multi language customer service (Bangla, Urdu, English). The staff are friendly and nice. We met a nice person, Nasreen Ahmed, who was very polite and cordial. We had Halwa Puri breakfast. Puri was fresh and hot. Halwa was sweet and tasty. Chole ( ) was the winner. Potato curry had a tangy flavor but not something we are familiar with in Bangladeshi cuisine. One Halwa Puri breakfast thali is 11.99 CAD plus tax. Frankly speaking, one order is sufficient for two people. You just need to add puri or naan. We also ordered tea. Tea was pretty average. Overall, we had a good experience. Thank you! Vegetarian options: Yes. Dietary restrictions: Ask at the counter before ordering. Parking: The restaurant is adjacent to the Iqbal Grocery store and at the end of the road. So you will find a space on the lot or by the street. Kid-friendliness: Moderate. Wheelchair accessibility: Not ideal.
Their breakfast is so good and the prices are too
Best Hyderabadi Dum Biryani I had in Toronto... That only in 12 CAD
Great food, great pricing and great service.
Bad customer service, I went in the guy took a call and made me wait indefinitely. I left. They don t care
Good food at decent price. Hyderabadi biryani is a must try for all the biryani fans.
Food was average.
Thé very best Nihari I ve ever had in my life. The owner if very friendly and the portions great! I highly recommend trying the Nihari however the Kabobs are delicious too!
Food is excellent very good portion taste Is excellent above all very good service Alim is assets Money worth Food : 5/5 |
Great little spot. Wonderful food! Kid-friendliness: Its pretty casual and would comfortably accommodate kids. Food : 5/5 |
Went for halwa puri and was spot on. No achar though.
Usually, I like a Iqbal kebab s food, but this is the first time I had ever come in this one. That must fair was OK but the Severer was little bit rude. I went there with my kids. The food was not as standard as other Iqbal kebabs. Kebab was really hard and non-tasty. When I couldn t finish my food I asked for a box to take away. It was really funny that the cashier was asking money for jist one box!!! I would rather not to go there again. Not because of $.25 for the box but also their attitude and food which don t go with their high pricing.
Very enjoyable meal, friendly & helpful staff.
Bad bad food and servis I saw rat in their hotel but they dont care about that
I eat today chicken Tika Masala on Farkway location it is better then Thorncliff really good.
Ok for take out .. dinning atmosphire not that good ... enough parking space ...
What a great experience right in our neighborhood. We went for Halwa Puri this weekend, and were impressed by the quality of the food. The portions were large and Puris were huge. Mushda, was a great hostess and very courteous. Will definitely be back.
So so, only a last resort.
So fresh and delicious always.
Amazing food, best Nihari in central GTA ... Kid-friendliness: The kids meals are NOT spicy ... which is awesome!! Food : 5/5 |
costly and unworthy
Food was okay could have been more better!!
Good place to find some authentic Indian food
Ordered the chicken dum biryani and the chicken is raw and bloody inside, this isnt poor, its a health hazard at this point. Straight to trash!
Good kebab..... Price a little high per portion
Ordered Manchurian chicken chow mine. It was verse experience because the noodles were extra thick and not fully cooked. There was hardly any chicken and veggies and we had to find chicken pieces . No resemblance with Manchurian taste. Will not recommend to anyone. My daughter didn t like the taste and didn t eat second bite of it so we had to throw all in garbage.
Tried their Chicken kabab roll along with sweet lassi with ice in it and both were a full meal and tasted great. Probably, the best in all of Toronto. They do deliveries from SkiptheDishes. Highly recommended trying them out!
Parking issue
Amazing seekh kebab and tikka masala. Amazing hospitality and service by Hadiya and Mujda.
They are not competitive with other groceries stores near by
A new grocery store opened in North York and has groceries from East and West and fresh meat cut to size. Also lots of vegetables and rice. The price is typical as other grocery stores and some items in weekly sale.I approve this place for your Indian grocery with halal meat .
I was extremely disappointed with my experience at Iqbal Kebab. I paid $20 for 1 box of veal biryani that was not only lacking in quantity but also quality. The container was poorly filled with just 5 small pieces of veal. To make matters worse, I realized that they use a divided container, making it feel like I paid $20 for very little biryani. The biryani didnt justify the high price tag and I felt like I was ripped off.
New on the market and good
Very clean store, very good customer service and products availability and prices are reasonable.
Great experience to cultural Food love it
Halwa puri very very delicious. Must try this.
Halal food plus cheapest from all
Our visit to Iqbal Kebab for halwa puri nashta was a total letdown. Lets talk about those prices ridiculously high, especially for the so-called premium $11.99 halwa puri thal. But surprise, surprise, the quantity and quality were a joke. No achar, no dahi, just blandness. To add insult to injury, the chana salan was a salty disaster. Unable to stomach the disappointment, we decided to pack it up, only to be hit with another slap in the face they wanted to charge us for takeaway boxes and they did charge for that. Seriously? Who pulls that stunt? This place is a rip-off, and we wont be subjected to such nonsense again.
We stopped by for butcher as we had experience at their other store, but meats were not fresh. In general clean store and well organized.
Ive been there to have dinner, however food isnt that much good as expected, tried hyderabadi biryani and other dishes which is not up to the mark, Haleem and mango juice were good like most of the dessert
Nice place
Worst Karahi ghost ever.
We use to eat Halwa puri it mostly weekends. Its not the best In town but best in the area
Very popular Pakistani eatery. They serve a large variety of traditional foods like Halwa Puri, Nihari, Paya, Kebabs, etc. Items are freshly cooked. Ambience wise, the restaurant needs a facelift to bring it up to par.
Clean fresh halal food
The service is delayed always with bad attitude
Food is not tasty. They can do better.
Vegetarian options: Veg curries are also available. But no veg biriyani Parking: Free parking, shares space with the Iqbal super market. Food : 5/5 |
Chicken wings and mogoo amazing. Alim and his staff are always so gracious and make our visit first class .
Very rude staff, First-time bad experience in the grocery store in these last six years.
Bif
This afternoon I went to Iqbal Kebab with a friend and ordered tandori fish with rice. The fish was sooo salty that I could not eat it. I told the cashier to ask the cook to taste the fish he/she made and could she/he eat it but got no respond. Most places they take it back and give you another dish but this did not happen here. No way will we be back here again. I am disappointed as i live in the area and could easily enjoy future meals but no way. Dietary restrictions: I am a senior and did not like the very very salty fish.
