1310 Don Mills Rd., North York, ON M3B 2W6, Canada
Homey mainstay for chicken curry rotis, oxtail stew & other Caribbean favourites.
I happened to be nearby and wanted a good meal, so I searched on Google and found this highly-rated restaurant. Here's a quick review: Restaurant Style: Mainly a mix of Trinidad style and Jollibee style. Trinidad Style: A blend of Caribbean and Indian flavors with unique spices. Jollibee Style: Filipino flavors, typically sweet and homey. Connection: Both influenced by immigrant cultures, with distinct spice blends. Environment: Average Service: Excellent Taste: Better than average, but not extraordinary. There's a unique seasoning in the food that I can't quite describe, but it sets the flavor apart. Overall: Satisfied. The meal cost $15 including tip, so the original price was likely around $12-13.
Take out counter with seating. Home cooked Caribbean food. Recommend the Oxtail and ask for lots of sauce or the rotis. Good value for money. Many doing take out so get their before lunch for quicker service.
I have been eating potato rotis from the time I could eat solid food. Gisele & Marc LLANOS are my parents who are now in Heaven. I picked up a plain & a potato roti this week after not eaten one since Summer 2021 - I moved to Owen Sound at end of 2021. Next visit, I plan to get 2 potato rotis! I miss our Dufferin & King location also in the '80s when I worked at Dufferin Mall, they were in the food court.
First of all they are wearing their jewllery while touching the food and the money person touches your napkins after handling the money. I ordered four patties that were soft and wilty. I also ordered two jerk chicken dinners not being told chicken breast is not jerk. After spending $45.00 got home their white meat dinner is watery curry not jerk. Worst curry ever! It's not authentic the chicken is dry and the sauce is yellow water. The rice over cooked swollen and very wet. Through it out. Disappointed with the response to correct the miscommunication by their server. They offered me two more wilty patties, pass. Save your money better place around. L.
This place has some of the best Caribbean food I have ever had. Great Trini and Jamaican dishes. Best Jamaican patty and double I have ever gotten that wasn’t homemade. The chicken roti was also very good. Highly recommend. The staff was extremely friendly as well and new a lot of the customers. I will definitely be going back.
Most arrogant worst service. Only 3 people working there. Young lady in the front is very polite and friendly. However, the female "Chef" also stands in the front and didn't even Crack a smile or say hello. Appeared extremely arrogant and was watching the young girl like a hawk. I seriously had second thoughts about making a u turn out of there after seeing the chef's demeanor and expression. I didn't feel that they valued or respected my business. I thought the food would be worth it, however as you can tell by the photos, the curry was a watery soup with no thick gravey at all The taste is exactly how it looks, bland and watery. The doubles as you notice has barely if any masala and is also bland. The thin fluffy roti as Trini's are known for, this is a big disappointment and is nothing like it. These ones are thick and RAW, take a look at the edges! People that claim this is the best west indian restaurant in the city, obviously don't know what authentic Caribbean food tastes like. Based on the responses from the owner from other reviews, I know they will be defensive when reading this. Perhaps this is part of the poor customer service, the defensive attitude and not being able to take constructive criticism. Everyone knows the customer is always right, and they say that for a reason. Perhaps it would be helpful to be open to customer's feedback. After all, they are the ones that make or break a business.
Literally the best roti hands down! I used to work down the street from the location on King Street which closed down. This was a family staple for me from going to the CNE and Caribana. Then when I started working in the area at least twice a month I would get roti for lunch. We had the pleasure of getting a roti recently and was not disappointed. My roti was a boneless curry chicken roti with slight pepper. I get this in a container with gravy on top and pepper on top as well. When I tell you this roti was full of flavor! It had the juiciest chicken and the right amount of aloo (potato) inside. I have tried several roti shops in Peel region and none of them come close to Island Foods. It's the most authentic West Indian roti shop in my opinion. I highly recommend this restaurant to anyone wanting a good quality roti. Side note, their patties are amazing as well! The pictures I took do not do it justice. My roti is in the container which I eat with knife and fork as it's covered in gravy. The roti that was cut is one that comes wrapped. You could just open the paper and bite into it however it was for a child so I cut it in 4 so it's easier to hold and eat.
Tried out island food for launch. Jerk chicken was seasoned well. but for both roti and jerk chicken there were way TOO many potatoes. Also rice had little of an after taste. For the price the portion of jerk chicken was not worth it. Roti was pretty stuffed. They also offer in house sauce which is popular… staff is friendly !
Best chicken rotis
Simple and comfortable. Delicious food.
Great dinner, as always. Island Foods consistently makes the best roti in Toronto!
My all-time favorite roti place in the city. I get the chicken roti while my friends also love the goat roti as well. I highly recommend asking for gravy poured over the top as well. Just delicious.
They have amazing curry rotis, and delicious oxtail meat fall off the bone oxtail dinners. The doubles are good too. Food
Best roti I know of in the GTA and really fast, friendly service
Our favorite place for roti!!! The best rotis Ive ever had! All The staff are extremely nice! The ladies working behind the counter making the rotis will smile and greet each customer no matter how busy they are. They have lifelong customers of me and my HUGE family!! Out of all 3 locations, this one has the best tasting curry. I will happily drive the distance to go to this location
Vegetarian options: Lots of great and flavourful vegetarian options. Parking: Plenty of unground parking available Food : 5/5 |
Love the food here!
Best roti in the GTA in my opinion!
I got the jerk chicken dinner,it was the worst thing I have ever seen and tasted potato, and I dont know what kind of vegt was that lesson learn will not be going back there ever no flavor, can I give half a star instead of 1
I stumbled upon this local gem while taking my mom to a clinic next door. This may actually be my new favourite roti place. Tried their chicken roti, shrimps roti, curry goat on rice, and ox tail so far and ALL SO GOOD. It s one of those restaurants where real chef makes real food. Spacious and comfortable seating, thank goodness for soft music that we can hear each other, and the food is so good. I ve done both take out and dine in. No bells and whistles, just really good food.
Best rotis anywhere in Canada! Family run by lovey people, great prices, and heavenly food.
Best rotis around. Customer for 10+ years, and never had a bad experience. Best Caribbean food, great prices, and excellent customer service
Mid food that is on the overpriced side. They give you the green peas, not really the Jamaican style red beans. The chicken is so cut up and dry too
One of the best meals in Toronto
This was fun outing with my friend to revisit Island Foods for roti. We use to go to the location at OCAD years ago and Ive missed it so much!! Roti and a Ting, you cant beat it and the staff are so lovely. Thanks so much for our amazing lunch!!
Best roti in Toronto by far
I have never been disappointed... my bro picked up day before 4 fathers day... OUT STANDING CHEFS
Every time we fly in from Victoria BC, hubby and I head to this restaurant. Nothing like it anywhere in BC. Really scrumptious food and lovely service.
Great food. My go to place for many years, for delicious Chicken/Goat Roti and Jerk Chicken dinner. This is a family business and they take pride in the food they serve their customers. See Jim! He will take good care of
Island Foods always has great food and friendly service.
Everything about this place is fantastic. There used to be a location in Grange Park but it closed down years ago. This is out of the way for me and my partner but it s always a treat when I make the trek there.
Its the most consistent Roti spot Ive been to in Toronto. The taste is always on point and they treat you really well in there. I come in at least once a week or every other week habitually. I even came just for the skins (Roti without anything just the dough). They were super super nice and explained everything to me so that I wouldnt heat it up incorrectly. Definitely a must come for anyone living in the city and wants a good tasting Chicken Roti.
in the area, super hungry but i was very content with our meal ordered online, was hot and ready waiting for us i love sauced up food, their rotis integrity was everything!! there was a soups worth of sauce and not a single drip service was lovely, would definitely come back again
Garbage
3 basic ingredients (potato, Chickpea and spinach) wrapped in roti tasted amazing, almost magic. Friendly staff and clean surroundings. I will return. Food
Amazing tastes
Excellent Food, the Goat Roti was amazing along with the Doubles...highly recommended!
Hands down the best roti I ve ever had They have a special hot sauce if you like it extra hot SO GOOD I d come here every single day if I could Food : 5/5
If you like Caribbean cuisine, this place is great. Awesome service, peaceful atmosphere, very good quality food at a reasonable price. I love coming here for a good roti, oxtail and goat. The staff are friendly and polite, the food clearly made with dedication and care.
Always excellent! Ontop of whatever your main order is be sure to get some fresh beef Patties! I always eat one afterwards as my dessert . you guys are the best and so close by! Thanks for the delicious, comforting food always and wishing you all a Happy New Year!
BEST roti in the city by far.
I had a roti and a double was amazing I recommend island foods its the place to go an eat I would be back .
Everything was perfect! Patties were flaky and fluffy. Doubles were nice and saucy with chickpeas cooked to perfection. Sauces were bright in colour and full of flavor, nice and spicy. Jerk chicken was moist and flavorful. Roti had perfect, chewy bread, and the moist goat meat pulled like the best pulled pork you can find. I came from London for this and I was not disappointed! Service was fast and professional, and prices were lower than expected! Two patties, two doubles, jerk chicken meal, and goat roti for less than forty bucks. There were lots of cooks in the back hard at work, so you know its not microwaved compost like the Triniman in London, ON. Restaurant environment was nice too, very clean. I will be back, and I will tell my friends!
So delicious. Best on Toronto
Lovely place. Rotis are a must.
First time at this location. Food was delicious, hot, fresh and affordable.
Quick friendly service. Yummy food
Amazing food so fresh Vegen meals vegetarian food all home made wonderful service always treated like family seating available ...
ordered goat curry extra spicy and two spicy patties for lunch, order was fast and packed nicely. the extra spicy is actually really spicy :D
Love the food & close to home for my favourite- curried shrimp!
Used to order from here all the time but the last time the majority of the roti was all bread with hardly any filling. This place is getting cheap.
I eat here often as it s close to my office, however I sometimes even bring the family! Fantastic food and always service with a smile. Keep it up!!
Vegetarian options: Love the spinach roti Food
Had forgotten how delicious Island Foods rotis are Please open a store in the west end - perhaps The Junction
Amazing doubles, some Roti!!!
This was my first time, was in the area and decided to stop in, the ladies were courteous and professional, the facility clean, the boneless goat Roti I ordered was great, will definitely stop by when in the vicinity, cheers
Have been following this family around the city, from their days in Village by the Grange, to Mount Pleasant and now Don Mills. Best roti for me - in fact wont eat any others now! They care about the quality of the food they prepare and sell, and want their customers to enjoy. Thank you all for continuing to serve such good food.
I recently ordered an oxtail meal with spinach and steamed vegetables from your establishment through SkipTheDish on Monday, 17th April. Unfortunately, I was disappointed with the quality of the meal as it arrived swimming in what appeared to be oil or water (picture attached below). While I understand that mistakes can happen, I was working from home and thankfully had alternative food to prepare. However, this experience has left a sour taste in my mouth, and I am hesitant to support your establishment again. As a new resident in the area, I was excited to try out some great Caribbean food. However, I was let down by the presentation and packaging of the meal. I implore you to take more pride in packaging your meals when sending them out to the public. Overall, I hope that this review serves as constructive feedback for your establishment. While my experience was disappointing, I am willing to give your establishment another chance in the future if improvements are made.
Hands down best Roti in town. For all those people posting negative reviews for your deliveries, get off your lazy *** go in to the store and order a fresh roti, never been disappointed. Service is also good.
I went to grab some take out for lunch. Busy but not crazy. The place was very clean. Staff were friendly and fast. Food was yum. If you like spice, ask for hot and it had good flavour.
This is my second time coming here and both times the food was great! I ordered the curry chicken breast dinner and it was really tasty and flavourful with the perfect amount of sauce.
Never order delivery. Our food arrived late, roti wraps were very mushy. Overall a huge disappointment. Never again. P
Its the best Roti in Ontario!
Amazing food, followed by amazing people that run this place. No wonder its a well known spot for roti cravings
excellent rotis
If you like hot sauce on the side make sure to bring a small container for it since they stopped ordering it.
Great place!
Amazing food! Thank you so much. Doubles and the spinach Roti are my go to.
Always my go to ! BEST BEEF ROTI
Am i dreaming or something or did i just see a Island Foods on Queen and Gladstone????? Tell me Im not dreaming and your back in the hood.
Great spot to come and grab some roti or doubles foods always consistently the same great taste highly recommend this place for anybody who wants West Indian food. Parking: Spot so limited by you normally get a spot
Always good quality food. Fair pricing, I recommend this restaurant.
Really friendly staff, menu a bit limited, but the food is high quality and reasonable quantity
I thought island foods was gone since they left king st but happy to see that they are still around! Best rotisrotis
Best doubles in all of the land
Love this place. Its amazing
I just love roti and this business makes the best!
Best goat Roti in Toronto!
Whenever I have a craving for Caribbean food, this is my spot. I had the curry chicken roti absolutely amazing !! bit salty for my liking, but overall A+ Vegetarian options: I had the veggie roti was also really good!
The price and taste is good
went there nov 4 around 6pm.....been many times...this time wasnt a great one...no flavor...something was missing this time..,only thing good was the dahl purie....hopefully my next visit will wipe this review away....stay tuned.
I am a first-generation Canadian, with both my parents hailing from Trinidad. Growing up as West Indian as can be in Toronto, its important to understand my credentials before I share this review. I consider myself a Roti Connoisseur, having sampled many in my life in Canada and in Trinidad, even contributed to making roti skins for municipal events for years. I feel incredibly fortunate to have Island Foods in my neighbourhood because its the closest you can get to authentic Trini roti using Canadian ingredients. The dalpuri has the right amount peas not too little, not too much and the doughs softness and density are just perfect. The roti skin is firm enough to hold their well-seasoned meats and veggies, but soft enough that you dont really need teeth to eat it!! Its pure perfection. Now, lets talk about the people. Especially in 2023, with companies cutting back on portion size and quality, Island Foods has remained committed to serving the most delicious Trini roti in the GTA, all with kindness, grace, and care. You dont have to worry about asking for extra gravy-- theyll do it with a smile. We Trini people are some of the happiest and kindest people on Earth! So, go ahead and enjoy, and dont forget to order ahead for your special occasions because they cater too!
Best food and best people on the planet. Go the extra mile for their customers and the food is amazing.
Amazing food, highly recommended
Never have I had take-out food store be so rude and not willing to admit their mistakes. I ve came here before because it s on my way home from work. Usually, I get off late and I like to grab something quick. I decided to grab food from here today, asked for spicy jerk chicken and was given something else. When I went in my car to eat my food, I noticed they gave me a completely different order. I went back and let them know, they got extremely defensive, got very rude, and said that they would not give me what I asked for because I ate from the food that they gave me, which I DID NOT there is no reason for me to touch food that I don t like. I asked for jerk chicken and they gave me some type of stew Chicken. I ve never even had stew chicken. These ladies were so defensive, I knew I wasn t gonna get what I asked for so I didn t even bother arguing and just left. I ve worked in customer service, I would never dare treat a customer or client this way. I will not be returning. I will be telling all my friends not to come back because of the attitude and rudeness of the workers. Very unfortunate. Hire people who value customer service. Do better next time.
The best place for rotis! Abit of a travel since the location by King and Dufferin closed down, but definitely worth it!
Stellar as usual but please, reopen a location in the west end of Toronto. Parkdale misses you!
Amazing rotis and doubles. Consistently delicious!
Wish there were more locations. Drove all the way from Milton, Ontario and bought and delivered food for my whole family in the Toronto area. Still taste amazing! So on point with great portions. Family and employees are friendly, sanitary, patient and compassionate. Formerly a patron of all their locations dating back to when they were in Dufferin Mall, C.N.E., King and Dufferin, and The Grange? My twin sister went two weeks later to return the favour and we had a beautiful dinner!! Cant thank them enough!!
The boneless chicken Roti at IF is the bomb! Used to hit their King West location every week for lunch for about 10 years. Love that gravy and their hot sauce. Dont ever change!!! :)
Low prices for acceptable quality food. Nice staff and clean restaurant.
Got the goat curry n rice. There was like 4 pieces of goat. Super plain flavor and no curry at all. I was literally starving and excited to try this place out. Doubles tasted good though but it was tiny. Ive had better doubles n goat curry else where. Probably wont be back.
Had Boneless Goat Dinner. Taste great. Good value.
Delicious! This meal reminded me of my childhood. Stopped in midday and had a boneless chicken roti with a sparkling pear drink. It was so tasty, and filling! I also bought a currant roll which I ve only just devoured now, it was a delightful flaky treat! Wish we lived closer.
Island Foods is an absolutely amazing family run business. I am a neighbouring business directly next door and Island foods is our go to for fast and healthy food. They have fed our entire workplace and all of our customers for years. Island foods is a staple in the neighbourhood. Always friendly & efficient service! We are so blessed to be neighbours to such lovely business owners. Some of our favourites include chickpea doubles. Roti & Pattie s with coco bread & Of course their award winning hot sauce & snacks. Thank you island foods for consistently awesome business we love being your neighbours and customers Xo LASHGOD team
Fantastic place. A friend did order fixings and some of them they did not have, but I dont know enough to know what exactly they didnt or did have or what exactly they were. I just read their instructions. I ordered the boneless goat roti and was not let down. Havent been here in a while but when were in the area, this is the place to go. And they are super friendly!
The jerk chicken had a nice flavour but honestly for the price you pay the portions are quite skimpy. Also the potatoes were kind of meh.
Goat roti was amazing
Loved the food
Loved the goat roti and doubles from here. Destroyed them so quickly that photos were impossible
Love the fresh Island food Chicken Roti is the best compared to others, including consistent fresh taste over the years!
Ive been going here for years. I even went to their first location at King and Bathurst. Love their food
Went for lunch and was thoroughly unimpressed. Coming from both a Trinidadian and Guyanese background I can say the food did not tick any of the taste boxes. The roti was likely reheated, the doubles were (edit) also reheated, the jerk chicken was bland, the rice and peas were made with next to no salt, the cabbage had an extremely weird after taste and the curry shrimp tasted like mud. Please, try exactly what I ordered and tell me I am wrong! I will give it to the staff though. They were quite attentive and did their best to make the experience authentic. EDIT (Response to owner): I took the liberty of removing the microwaved comment as I may have been misinformed, but the roti and doubles were reheated. They were not fresh as I am accustomed to. Maybe the few establishments that I do frequent take the time to prepare the roti skin and bara fresh to order whereas I am almost certain this establishment does not! My personal preference for salt, shrimp that does not taste like the bottom of a pond and cabbage that does not have an aftertaste was also shared with the other patron I attended with. We went to your establishment through reference and thought we would support a local food provider, but we are not impressed with the fair. Google has been kind enough to allow people to express their personal reviews in public for others to use as a guide to see if they are willing to try an item, service, food, etc... I hope your establishment does not think that I am trying to smear your business while hiding behind a computer screen. My name is public and I would be more than happy to have let you known that the food was not up-to-par if someone was standing at the cash register when we were leaving. Sadly we could not stay and I was not able to give you my in-person review. Needless to say I would have still written this review as it is my right living in a free and open society. This is not the first time I have been critical of an establishment and I hope that you can take the time to reflect, try to serve your customers better, be more attentive and cater to authentic personalities. Sadly, there are not a lot of other businesses in this area that provide Caribbean food. One day there might be and you will need to up your food game! Until that time focus on providing the best fair possible and dont waste time with hypercritical and opinionated customers as myself - YOUR FOOD SHOULD DO THE TALKING, NOT YOUR FINGERS!
This place has some of the best bbq chicken I have ever eaten. It is perfectly cooked, the rice and peas taste amazing well season and the rice is cooked to perfection. Definitely my new spot.
Really good food, prices and friendly people! In a popular spot too
My one and only place to get boneless chicken roti been going here for over 35 years. I miss the Dufferin location.
So happy to be able to get my Island Foods craving satisfied. Its been too long since the one on King near Dufferin closed near me. Make sure to get the extra curry on top!
I was at Island Foods last Saturday. I just did not get a chance to write a review. I have never written a review actually. Best roti I have had in a decade. I cried tears of joy!!! A welcome taste of home.
Great boneless chicken roti! Get the gravy! Goes great with it!
Poor food, poor service.
Used to really like this place. But for doubling your menue price and good quality drooping I wil not be return. Staff also seems to have an edge that wasnt there before.
I absolutely love this restaurant! This is a family owned restaurant which is a staple of the community! Try the beef roti here you will not be disappointed! By far the best roti in the City! My family and I have been coming here for many years and it is still the best place that serves rotis in Toronto.
The best and the original
Great service! Friendly and prompt. It was my first time there, but they made me feel like I was a customer they were familiar with.
Super mediocre Jrek Chicken. Potatoes were dry and also tasted like straight turmeric. Disappointing really- used to love the one at the Grange next to OCAD.
I have taken out meals from each location and now get it mainly from Markham. The roti is soft and pillowy and the channa filling is so tasty with beautiful spices. The food is made fresh to order and quality is consistent. The staff is very friendly and you can see that it is a labour of love.
Best Roti in the city! Go 666666666666
Friendly and attentive staff, super tasty food, fair portions. 5 stars!
Stingy with meat in the roti. Got maybe $1 of chicken in a $15 roti. Expensive bread.
Great food at a great price. Really miss the King St West location
Phenomenal food! I am never disappointed when I order food from here. Absolutely delicious! The people that work here are very friendly and they do everything to make sure you are happy with your order.
The best rotis and are sooo delicious - we had to make a special stop on our road trip to have these - super fresh and addictive.
Awesome little Carribean restaurant serving standard Carribean fare. Great for takeout, as they do have limited seating.
Awesome delicious . And their hotsauce is the real deal !!!
Came here thinking it was a sister restaurant to a location in Markham, but it wasnt. I got the spinach, Chana and potato Roti, it was okay. It was really saucy, and had a decent flavor to it but nothing I would rave about. It was just okay.
Wont eat rotis or doubles anywhere else.
Amazing food no matter what dishes you get. Have been coming here for years and you cant beat the prices!
Their jerk chicken did not taste correct
Island foods is an absolute institution.
Had the goat roti. Great price and great taste. Lots of juice rolling around in that baby. It looked like a boat that was taking on water. Go try it but bring boots and a rain coat.
I have to be honest. When Island Seafood was on King Street, they were absolutely amazing. I ordered a goat roti and doubles. The roti was good but I ve had better and the doubles were fantastic. They must be doing OK cause they had a line up there for lunch. This review is just based on what I had that day. I ll go back and try their ox-tail. I m told that their ox-tail is really good.
oxtail so nice
Great food, super friendly staff! Love this place!
Vegetarian options: One of my favourite places to eat. I love this place so much. I wish they would open one in the West End. I was so sad the dufferin and king location closed down. Amazing food. The vegetable roti is to die for. Ive have tasted a lot of rotis in my days but this place is by far the best. Please come back to the West end.
Wonderful family business that has been around for decades, not to mention their food is delicious!
Ordered the goat dish and it was so bland and flavorless. Bad proportions. Like theres so much rice, and potatoes, cabbages yet so little meat. Needs better seasoning and vegetable variety. Not worth the full price cause it literally taste like home made Chinese food!
Ive been eating here for years and have never been disappointed with anything on their menu. Super friendly staff and a welcoming atmosphere. I highly recommend the Roti.
Spinach roti was delicious. Lots of plexiglass installed around the counter and the store is very clean.
Best meal possible in Toronto for under $20. Definitely try the boneless goat roti and add spinach.
Excellent Caribbean food. Be aware that they are cash and debit only.
So the reason I gave 4 stars is because of the finished product. I will start off by saying the food tastes very good. However I was very confused when our order came and I got a roti in a plastic bowl and it seemed they poured the curry sauce all over it and by the time it was delivered to me, it was kind of a mess and the roti itself was....soggy? As a West Indian person I have never eaten a roti like this. Im just unsure about why they decided to put the sauce ontop of the roti. Others at my work were also confused about this as well. The taste of the curry potatoes was amazing but the soggy roti really ruined it for me and if I knew this or had an option to not have it this way, I would have chose that. Still the food was excellent and perhaps if you guys could, please make this an option in the future. Update 4/24 Thank you for the response ownership. I have edited my review to 5 stars. I am unsure why we got it like that, I will make sure next time we order from here to request it without the sauce on top like this.
This is the BEST place for real Trini Roti in the city. Gotta get the boneless all white meat chicken roti. Family run since the 70s Ive seen their family grow just by visiting and they always remember you. 10 stars
Great service. Fantastic food for all members in the family and
Very good boneless chicken roti, I will definitely come back.
Delicious and the best I ve had.
Their food is good. But the star is their hotsauce. Its amazing.
Best shrimp roti ever!
Best hot sauce Ive ever tried. Seriously. Try it.
Always going back for the beef and chicken roti! Love how juicy and tender the meats are in comparison to other places. Just a little disappointed that peanut punch is not always available.
The most amazing roti Ive ever had from any west Indian place, including homes!!
I have been eating potato roti since I was a young girl. Thankfully, this location is still in operation and was quite saddened to see King/Dufferin location close up due to development. (same thing happened to my Richtree restaurant @ Bayview/York Mills corner) Update: today, June 2nd I was craving a potato roti since my last visit in Toronto so I drove all the way from north Brampton for one and a plain one for a 9 year old semi Trinidadian friend of our family. I am elated to know this family is the same one that serviced me & my parents from the time I can remember eating roti. They have both passed and I will keep our tradition by visiting more when I am able, I cant get over what I learned today and OMGOSH what a small world it keeps getting. See you soon daughter of father who attended same private school where I worked for almost 10 years. I added more photos for your customers, new & older to look at how everyone loves your menu!
The best Roti in the GTA
Heard this was the best Caribbean food in town, but was exceptionally underwhelmed with the meal. Staff was friendly and efficient, though the food itself was sub-par. My girlfriend and I got a boneless goat dinner (no bone-in option) & an oxtail dinner. The goat dinner tasted more bland than other curry goat dishes we ve had and the meat was slightly dry. The oxtail was more flavourful. The rice on both dinners lacked the deep rich flavour that you normally get with traditional rice and peas, especially with gravy. The lack of coleslaw with the meals were also a let down, as every Carribean restaurant we ve had serve coleslaw as an included side. In terms of portion size, both dinners felt slightly smaller than the what we are normally used to. There was more meat in the oxtail dinner but not much included in the goat dinner. Overall, the staff were friendly but the food did not meet our expectations.
The food wasnt delicious!
Tried the boneless goat roti and jerk chicken dinner, absolutely delicious!!! Goat was very flavorful and the chicken was nice and moist. Portion is perfect! Would love to try the rest of the menu! Place and kitchen looks very clean, staff are friendly.
BEST roti and dinners Ive ever tried! And Ive tried a lot! LOL Great portions, fabulous customer service, quality and consistency every single visit. I recently moved over an hour away and will still make the drive when I am craving a roti! Must trys are the beef, chicken (both boneless breast and the bone in thighs) and the oxtail dinner is to die for!! The doubles are also fantastic (best Chana Ive ever tasted) and they make their own beef patties which are Im sure you guessed it, the best ever! Also they make the best tasting hot sauce in the world! Its not just spicy but full of flavour. If you like hot sauce get a bottle of both the original and the lime flavour to try. The lime is just a touch hotter in my opinion and has that wonderful kick of lime to make it even more delicious (didnt know that was even possible until I tried it) LOVE LOVE LOVE ISLAND FOODS :)
The best boneless chicken roti in Canada, hands down. Go for the hot sauce. Would like to be proven wrong because I dont live anywhere near Island Foods.
Friendly customer service and delicious roti.
Very good food
Delicious goat roti and boneless chicken roti just like the one that used to be near Liberty Village. So glad its still available here now that the other location is gone. For those that love the gravy, you can ask for the roti to come with extra gravy on top.
This is the real deal - a true family-run Trini establishment. The best rotis, and of course, the best hot sauces known to man.
My favourite Roti place. Great price for a good portion
Simply amazing !!!!
I miss the King & Dufferin location. Somehow that Roti tasted so much better! I went here today craving roti, it was nowhere close to what I have consistently had at the King & Differin location.
This place is great, been going there for many years. The goat is delicious every single time and it s not expensive for what you get. Very fast, not much waiting time. Love that it s a local family business with the same lovely ladies behind the counter. Will order more often. :-).
tasty food
Good service what I dont like is cash only
Still have to wait for my take out but love the rotis and doubles. Will repeat once a month although its 1/2 an hour to get there. Only roti place I like. From Jane & Wilson to Donway.
Everything is ire
Been coming here for years. The food may not be the cleanest to eat but its packed with flavour - just dont wear a white shirt! Im particularly fond of their goat roti.
It was a pleasure to have the roti I miss from king street. It s worth the drive.
Normally I love Island Foods food, service leaves something to be desired. The Chana Roti is crave-able for sure. My husband just went completely out of his way to go to Island Foods to pick up lunch, its Friday Sept 3 before the long weekend, 12:00 pm, online says they are open today until 8 pm, only to find that the store was closed. Pretty brutal, its a Friday at lunch time, yeah everyone needs a vacation, I get it (as I sit at my desk working), but then it should be posted online so people who are working dont waste their time. Needless to say, will not be going back.
The best rotis and doubles you will ever have! I have been going there since they were located many years ago in the Dufferin Mall!!! I am so sad that they had to move off of King Street. My husband is going to find his way up there to grab us some Rotis. Also the staff is so friendly. They are quite generous with their Portions!!!!
In 2002 I lived near King and Dufferin, and I didn t have a full kitchen. I ate the exact same meal at Island Foods constantly- sometimes 7 days a week. Boneless chicken dinner with an extra of Channa and spinach, and a plain roti with chicken gravy. That location eventually closed. But I always considered it the very best Roti spot in town. Much to my surprise, I was working in the East end and discovered that they have a Don Mills location. I just finished eating my original order (they were out of spinach so I tried the eggplant) and believe it or not, nearly 20 years later, it tastes exactly the same. It s the same family, and they definitely have preserved the original recipes. Amazing!!!
Fantastic food. Friendly staff.
Try it great
Best Roti..so fresh
Their channa roti tasted good, and it had the home-cooked flavour that I was seeking. However, it didn t live up to my expectations having been a long-time customer of their King West location prior to its closure.
The boneless chicken roti and doubles are to die for! One of my favourite local spots.
Best roti of my life!!!!!! I literally drive 45 mins just to eat here
I love it thanks
The was delicious, I will go back again one day soon.
The smell when you walk into this place is what sold me. It smells so good. Clean and friendly environment. Roti was amazing! Cant wait to go back!
Great Roti...great portions..buy their award winning pepper sauce.. flavor with a kick..will def be back
I love the taste of island foods. But very often I find the food temperature not hot enough....even when eating in the restaurant. Perhaps that is why I had tummy aches a couple of times. Also, I was charged extra fee for asking for extra hot sauce. That was disappointing.
Perfect
