506 Lawrence Ave W, North York, ON M6A 1A1, Canada
Canada's oldest Dairy restaurant. Family owned and operated, we serve traditional Jewish dairy dishes and are famous for our Split Pea Soup and Greek Salad.
The food was very good, the fries were crispy, I ordered a vegan burger and my girlfriend had a bagel with cheese and pizza-style tomato sauce, everything was delicious and the ladies who served us were excellent. The prices were very reasonable since the dish I ordered even came with a salad. 👌🏻
This establishment has been around for a century. A very quaint setting with an extensive menu. I love the novelty feel and energy. Once you arrive, you are greeted with the biggest smile. My friend and I had a small bite, which was delish. We will be back to try more on the menu.
Every time I order food from United Bakers.. it is always a 10/10. The food is delicious no matter what you order that is why I love this store.
Being a 100-year-old food outlet, this bakery's history goes long. I tried pea soup and open-face tuna on Croissant. Both were amazingly good and soothing because of their hotness and delicacy. Don't miss out on this if you are near the area. Pea soup tastes similar to Indian Dal. So be ready for that.
Fast fast . Great portions. great service. Always a buzz and a friendly atmosphere. I love everything about this place from its heritage to its food and it's delightful confections. Go there go there often. It's a gem... Don't forget to get some takeout for the rest of the week. Try the tuna fish it's beyond parallel.
I wanted Jewish food and my mother in law was out of town. Good thing these are are around. They taste amazing with that warming homemade quality you only get when mom cooks. I love this place. Their blintzes are addictive.
This was my first time at United Bakers! I was looking to take my girls to a Jewish Deli as we don’t have a lot of options at home! I was immediately thrilled by the cross section of customers and the business of the restaurant! You could tell right off that there was a strong community here! Latkes, Blintzes and Challah French Toast…oh my! The Mac n Cheese was delicious! My husband and friend had fishy things..that I don’t really care for..but they said they were awesome! Friendly service! We enjoyed it all!
Always a busy place. Their pea soup are the best. Love the potato latkas and cheese blintzes as well.
Mostly Ashkenazi food. You dont come here for the food which is okay. Personally I am not a fan of the bland greek salad which is basically just iceberg lettuce and being served unripe tomatoes. Everybody said it was great but I found it boring. Just stick with the bagel classics and you will be fine. Ashkenazi food is generally on the bland side so do not expect alot of seasonings on stuff. The pea soup is very good and worthwhile, and I highly suggest it. You come here for tradition and community. Its a Jewish institution and part of Toronto history.
Hidden gem!!! I always walk past this place and never ever ventured in. I was craving for a homey bagel and they had it. They had other bakery items too they also serve some hot foods. I munched my food down so fast no time for pictures. Would come back again and take my time and enjoy. The service was good too. Would come back A++++
Shakshuka was delightful
Consistently delicious.
Great comfort food and great service! Delivered right on tome! Our family couldn t have enjoyed it more!
It is a wonderful experience every time I eat at United Dairies by myself and with my friends and family and the servers are excellent at their jobs and I always look forward to an eating experience
I had a big order. The order was ready 9on time. The staff were really helpful and kind. They had someone help carry the order out to my car. The order itself shows 112 years of business.
I will keep it simple, everything they serve is the best version of that thing that you will have. Its perfect, now go order some lunch lol.
Pleasant through and through. I adore this place. There is a reason its been around for so long. Its just an amazing place to eat and hang out.
I have been going to UB since I was a kid. Their food is fantastic. Its simple, delicious comfort food. Their service is exceptional, and the ladies are always gracious and fun. Ive introduced many friends to the restaurant over the years, and they love going to it.
Great restaurant, food and service !
Best split pea soup, bagels, well everything is delicious. Staff is extremely friendly.
Fast service with amazing foods for order.
My favorite cozy restaurant, best staff in the world!
Always a favourite for great portions and nice service.
Took way to long too have our order taken. Food was decent, asked for runny poached eggs and they were solid inside.
One of the gems in Toronto.
My favorite New-Old place to dine. Great staff, wonderful food, love the booths and decor. See you soon Food
Excellent service; Cassandra was so friendly and helpful! Parking: Tons Food : 5/5 |
My go to when I want to treat myself for lunch at work.
We enjoy this restaurant very much Vegetarian options: Lots of options Parking: No problem parking
It always feels like coming home again. All the Jewish comfort foods you could ask for, and always delish! Plus we always run into people we know. Vegetarian options: Entire menu is vegetarian
Best breakfast in Toronto :) Vegetarian options: Tons of options Dietary restrictions: Great for allergies Kid-friendliness: Tons of food options for kids
Great meal as always! Food was delicious and quick, and the staff was friendly and attentive but not overbearing.
Amazing place for food in Toronto
Good, hearty fare at a community local eatery that has extremely reasonable pricing.
I always receive the best service with their staff. The food is delicious and we take out often to add to our meals.
I haven t been here in a very long time as it s not my favourite place to be. However, today I wanted to go for lunch with my mom and cousin. Everything was pretty good up until we hit the 45 minute mark when the busser started clearing our table and telling us to get the bill and leave because there was a big line up of people waiting to be seated. That was completely unacceptable, we should never be rushed out of a restaurant because there s a line up.
There are better bagel joints but its the most convivial on Bathurst.
This restaurant is quite a local Hangout for most of the cultural community in the area. Its been around for over a hundred years but unfortunately its a Creamery and the best you can do is toast pastries, creamery items coffee etc. but no meat. So if youre looking for bacon and eggs or steak and eggs forget it. Still good food if youre hungry at a reasonable price and one of the few restaurants in the area. The best part of this restaurant from my perspective is the bakery. My review initially was on the restaurant but since then I drop in a couple a times a week to stock up on rye bread be it with kimmel, plain or pumpernickel. Another unique thing is the sizes of their loaves. They make small loaves of rye that are terrific when you just want a small snack with hummus or meat. Now as well they have a terrific selection of danish open face with lemon, apple, blue berrie, cherry as well as turnovers and muffins. But the best part is if you get there at 8.00 am all these items day olds are half price.
I stopped by here after going to the Metro nearby to get some pizza. Came here looking for some smoked salmon to top off my pizza. The smoked salmon here was fresh, slices were large, and the taste was deep. High quality. Its on par with Kristapsons which Ive thought to be the best purveyor of smoked salmon in Toronto
Jewish standard fare abounds here, so dig in. It always seems to be busy, so be prepared to line up at the door, but the dining room is deceptively large, hence very noisy. Guests always know each other, so theres much conversation in the aisles. The bakery counter at the front is super crowded as well. Convenient, if crowded, parking available right outside.
The food is always fresh and plentiful. My office staff love Lunch N learn events as we get the best healthy food from United.
The pea soup is fire!!!! This place is an institution.
My main comment is I need to decide for dietary reasons what s on the menu before I get there to save time and make it easier I would really suggest that the menu if it can t be typed out and is a photograph of the menu which would be fine but pic is NOT clear. Can a larger menu that is clear and focused put on the site.
Never disappoints. Great staff, clientele and of course the food! Food
Its always nice to eat there.
Love it.
Its an amazing place. Always consistent good food. A real go to here in Toronto.
Amazing food
The food is good, but too noisy.
Vipul , that person i have to mentioned , guided so well about this bakery i , really appreciate and having excellent service , always recommend to come
Love the quality of all the super menu Love the staff both at tables and behind the counter Thank you Ruth and Nathan for UB Food : 5/5
Last week I wanted to get some take-out food, but something different than the same old chain restaurants. The dine-in portion of United Bakers is always busy, so I figured the food must be pretty good. I had been to the restaurant many times in the past, mainly for their great selection of breads and rolls. I took a look at the take-out menu, and was I impressed perhaps even overwhelmed with the choices available. I decided to get Veggie Lasagna. The picture on the take-out menu looked good, but when I got the food home I was wonderfully surprised. The container of lasagna was almost triple the size of the photo on the menu! As for how it tasted? Absolutely delicious and what incredible value for money! While I was there, I could not help but notice the way the staff interacted with customers. Almost like they were old friends. From the original store on Agnes Street to Spadina Avenue to Lawrence Plaza, I suppose what the Ladovskys started over 112 years ago with United Bakers is still thriving: A place to eat and a place to meet. From now on, United Bakers is my go-to place for take-out food, which is not only thoroughly enjoyable, but it is amazing value for money. Five Stars all around!
Top notch food and service for years
We have come to this restaurant for 42 years. Its home away from home Vegetarian options: Lots to chose from Kid-friendliness: Kids are made feel welcome always
My dad is in a wheelchair and there is no accessibility for the disabled. It s his favourite place but he can no longer go. I won t miss it, food is mediocre at best.
Vegetarian options: The restaurant has no meat - fish and dairy only. Food
The feeling when I order a pea soup (even by delivery) or step into the doors of the restaurant and greeted by the best staff is unchanged - it feels like home. You can tell the Ladovsky Family s huge heart is in every detail. From their amazing service, to their outstanding food - there s a reason I m there weekly.
Maria was excellent, thank you for the great service! First time here, had the latkas, hummus, shakshuka, pita, all super fresh. Great old school diner vibe. Will come back!
Phil, Ruth, Nathan and the United Bakers team are unparalleled in their kindness, generosity and their commitment to the community. They run UB with so much love and care that it shows in every dish they serve and every guest that enters their doors. We had UB cater our post wedding brunch this past Sunday and it was just perfect; not just the food, but everything from the service and organization to the delivery and plating was just perfect. I wish we had photos to share, but everything was eaten so fast we didnt have a chance! UB is the best. 5 stars every time!
I love UB, it s the best. But I had to come here to write a review specifically for Rachel who helped me on the phone and provided such an excellent level of care. Best customer care I have ever experienced. Thank you Rachel you made my day
Always consistent and delicious and fast preparation
The best pea soup.
Challah were perfectly baked and sliced, as requested. Gefilte fish and whitefish spread were fresh and well-prepared. Delicious lunch!
The food is great, its got a really good classic diner vibe inside. I regularly go there to sit and eat and am impressed everytime by the very quick and friendly service AND the delicious food. My favourite dishes are the Shakshuka, the Falafel and hummus platter, the Latkes (with sour cream and apple sauce), and a bagel. Very classic homemade mac n cheese and excellent in-house greek salad dressing.
Vegetarian options: Smoked salmon, lasagna, eggplant parmesan platters are a must! Food
First/class & friendly service, traditional dairy restaurant with reliably tasty food and great staff. Also an excellent take-out area including fresh bread and desserts.
Excellent, quick service. Tasty food. Always reliable. A great neighbourhood spot!
Sat down and waited for over thirty minutes and no one came to take our orders. We kept asking for a waiter but they all kept saying give me a minute and never came back to our table. We finally left after we saw the waiters ask the tables around us if they needed anything else and still ignore us.
I absolutely love the staff and food at United Bakers. The food is always tasty and the pastry s are my favourite part of my me Parking: The plaza itself is always busy, but I find that if you wait long enough and you are persistent there will always be a parking spot for you Wheelchair accessibility: My mother uses a walker sometimes so the fact that there s wheel drugs, accessibility and parking for handicap right up front is very helpful
Great food that has withstood the test of time, wonderful efficient and friendly staff. Vegetarian options: Delicious Whitefish salad platter.
One if my favourite lunch spots.
Very nice
It was such a great experience Great atmosphere!
Absolutely love this place! The mac and cheese was one of my faves as a kid, now it s my son s favourite too! He loves every bite of it! Love the staff! Always welcoming and we are always taken care of well
Whether it s takeout delivery or dine in United never fails always top quality food love the pea soup and everything else I ve ever had on the menu
Eem going there for 50 years.. always the best :)
I spotted United Bakers Dairy Restaurant on my Doordash app. It had been years since my last visit there when I lived in the neighborhood so naturally I decided to walk down memory lane and order food delivery. There is a reason they have been around as long as they have. Yummy memories from my youth rushing back. Latkes, Blintz, Bagel Sandwiches so good and I ordered a loaf of Challah too. Will definitely order from them again.
Weve never eaten at the restaurant part, so I cant talk about that part, though one day wed love to eat there. Its almost always busy in the dining area, though, so it must be fantastic. The bakery section is fantastic, though. A whole assortment of treats. We often get their bagels or their hamantaschen cookies. I also love their cinnamon rolls and croissants. They have nice rugelach as well. Weve always had great service and are helped pretty quickly in their bakery line. Theres a reason this establishment has been around for so long! Im so glad we live in the neighbourhood Dietary restrictions: I know they have vegan/ dairy free muffins (delicious) and im sure they have other options too. With it being a dairy restaurant, I dont think they carry any meat products so if youre vegetarian/ pescetarian Im sure its quite helpful to have so many options Parking: Lots of parking spots on the plaza. You might not get something up close, but youll find something in the big lot Wheelchair accessibility: No wheelchair/ stroller accessible at all, from what Ive seen
ingredients were fresh and food prepared well.
We love going to UB every time we visit our family in Toronto. Been doing it for over 20 years. Montreal is missing a place like UB. Vegetarian options: Vegetarian preferences are a cinch to satisfy Parking: UB is located in a strip mall so there is plenty of outdoor parking Kid-friendliness: We used to go to UB with our little grandchildren but after so many years, theyre not little anymore.
Always great for what it is! Super low key restaurant. Good food. Dietary restrictions: Kosher style. Kid-friendliness: Yup. Very kid friendly.
Great staff friendly and helpful Cheese danish is the best I ve had in years Almond danish fantastic also I will definitely be back Happy I found this bakery in the Lawrence Plaza
I ve been eating here my whole life, it s one of the most amazing Jewish delis that exists! You can t find food better anywhere else!
Old school restaurant in Toronto serving Jewish cuisine+ firm favorites. Food wasnt spectacular but it had a twist that screamed food memory Vegetarian options: The pea soup was lovely!
Amazing bakery and costumer service! Highly recommended!
Loved the brunch options. I will recommend this place to try something new for brunch lovers!
Always delicious!
I have NEVER had a bad meal. Excellent food! I have NEVER had bad service! Take out is easy. ALL staff extremely friendly Vegetarian options: The restaurant does NOT serve meat, therefore it s all vegetarian Dietary restrictions: Gluten free bread Parking: It s a large plaza so plenty of parking Kid-friendliness: High chairs for children & children s meals
Always great food and service!!
The freshest, liveliest restaurant for dairy in Toronto and surrounding area! Vegetarian options: So very tasty! Food : 5/5 |
The food is excellent and the service was great too.
We absolutely love the service and food at United! Always accommodating and welcoming.
that pea soup was on the bus
Definitely not an inclusive restaurant
Delicious smoked whitefish !
Got the rainbow trout & strawberry milkshake. They tasted great. Their customer service was great. Cassandra was so helpful throughout our time there. From helping us go over the menu, giving us a samples to try when we weren t sure what to pick (since it was our first time here). Everyone was too friendly, made me feel wanna visit again. Coming back again for sure!!
Love. Best Latkes in the city!
Lowkey goated
One of the few old country Jewish diners left that haven t become full tourist spots. All vegetarian (with fish). Get the pea soup and cabbage roll or Greek salad with the spinach dressing, you won t regret it
Love this place. The food is soooo good. Erdina took great care of me too - so helpful and lovely!
Service was very good the food experience was average. Although I did not order much creative.
Our family has been customers at UB since the 1950 s on Spadina Avenue. The food, service and friendliness of the owners and staff has never wavered. It has always been and still is our favourite restaurant of all in Toronto. I was young and single when I went every Sunday on Spadina for lunch with my fiancée and friends, now, it is a favourite of my children and grandchildren! I wish them many more years to continue in good health
Super tasty, friendly staff!
A great place to get pretty much anything fresh, and delicious. Its been around for a very long time, but it continues to deliver on its promise of fresh food, in house, or for takeout. Highly recommend!
The staff and food is exceptional, I have been going there for along time.
We love this place. Consistent, and dependable. Generous helpings!! Vegetarian options: There are lots of veggie options since this is a dairy restaurant. Dietary restrictions: They can and do modify dishes where possible!! Parking: Abundant parking in the plaza. Kid-friendliness: Very kid friendly... most parents are even attentive!!! Can be loud, but thats because people are enjoying themselves. Wheelchair accessibility: There are stairs at the entrance, but we have seen staff being very helpful assisting with entering and leaving. The washroom on the main floor is accessible.
Delicious brunch and friendly stuff made the experience enjoyable. Highly recommend for a charming brunch spot!
I love this place because it has been here forever. I love their gefilte fish and soup. I always ordered takeout at the counter. Although I find their service is friendly but at times a lil slow
Great soups, great tuna salad. Everything bagel toasted cravings for it every so often
Best dairy spot in town!
Great food at a great price. The employees are also very pleasant as well. Definitely coming back! Dietary restrictions: They were accommodating about dairy free and made sure my order did not include any dairy in it. Parking: In a plaza so lots of parking available for free.
My experience was fantastic!! As always. Came in with an old friend, saw many other old and recent friends. Server was friendly, sweet, efficient. Food was perfect, as ordered. Its like coming to a party every time!! Food
Best place ever
excellent bagels! Thank you for your friendly and professional service Mert!
It s all about the pea soup.
Consistent, great service, lots of choices, great traditional food.
My first time to try this bakery , the young lady recommended tuna sandwich, I eat it and I will definitely buy it again and again. just try it , you won t be disappointed, the 100 years history tell the reason.
My favourite place in the city
Old school and still great a Toronto institution.
Vegetarian options: Cabbage rollls and split pea soup. Food
When you ask where do the locals eat? This is the answer. The best soups in the city without a doubt and the world s most wholesome vibes.
Great place for breakfast, lunch or brunch. We dined in for Mothers Day lunch. Service was very fast, the food absolutely delicious, with good size portions too. The menu is quite extensive so theres something for everyone (no meat as this is a kosher dairy restaurant), prices are reasonable and I like that their hours of operation are much better than most breakfast/lunch restaurants. Well definitely visit again.
As always, excellent food andgood service.it was not as busy as usual but we arrived around 6:30 p.m. soups are amazing.
Absolutely! - **Salmon Sandwich:** Its a tasty, healthy choice with a perfect mix of flavors. - **Mac and Cheese:** Think of creamy macaroni coated in a rich cheese sauce, topped with crispy breadcrumbs. Its the ultimate comfort food, creamy and satisfying. - **Grilled Cheese:** Picture two slices of bread filled with gooey melted cheese, toasted to golden perfection. Its simple yet irresistible, a classic comfort food favorite. Kid-friendliness: The selection for kids are amazing. The fries and grilled cheese is my son all time favorite.
The Challa french toast was worth the try. Welcoming staff. Liked the old-school vibe in it.
This was my first time here and it wont be my last. The food was good, service was excellent and the prices were great.
Outstanding experience, every time.
I ordered food for delivery. The bonus war propaganda included with my dinner was not appropriate. I will not be ordering from you again.
Went there for brunch and also picked up a few turnovers from the bakery. This place gets busy - after all it s been there for a century. Some of the best bagels in town and yes do try the potato pancakes! The service could be a tad faster and beside that simply superlative
I come here for uber and doordash. It is a very interesting place. Its full and there are people waiting in line. Demand is high. The staff is very attentive, and if there is a long wait, they buy drinks. I dont know anything about food because Ive never eaten it.
Amazing service and great food
This was my second time eating here. The place was busy but service was prompt and friendly. Great breakfast and good coffee. I will visit this place each time I am in the area
A warm and wonderful place to get traditional food.
Always amazing. Split Pea soup for the W
Love this place, no frills breakfast options. Feels like a family run diner, they have an early bird special but overall the prices are fair, the portions large and the service is great. Grab some bagels of challah for home!
Live the bakery.
Parking: Lots of parking spots available Food
Great experience
We ordered the pancakes on uber eats and honestly they were de-li-cious. Considering the very reasonable price for 3 pancakes, we didn t expect them to be this big and it was actually hard to finish everything but definitely not a problem at all!! I ll surely go back to this place and recommend .
One of the best diners around! Love the staff and how they know exactly what you want and how you want it. A must every time were in town!
Best, pea soup and Greek salads in the city by far, Im addicted.
Always warm, friendly service and consistently great food Vegetarian options: Great selection Food : 5/5 |
Loud and crowded, but a quintessential Jewish diner. Best bagel and lox I ve ever had (big portion too). Dietary restrictions: Gluten free bread and bagels available with dedicated toaster.
This is the best food you will ever have in your life. You have my word. Eating this food is like being lovingly cooked for by every Bubby and Zaidy in the city. Im not exaggerating, the latkes will bring tears to your eyes because all youll taste is love. The spreads are out of this world. The whitefish... its like a hug from your mother. Everything I have ever had here was a magical experience and I cant recommend it enough. I could eat nothing but this food for my entire life and be complete.
Excellent food, efficient service and friendly staff. Couldnt ask for more.
Wonderful service and food!
Delicious as always
Great diner and a throw back
Really yummy food. Love the challah here. Family friendly atmosphere and warm, kind staff. I have brought my son here a couple times, most places shun toddler energy, but here, everyone smiled and was kind and helpful. This is a neighborhood staple. Latkes are my go to. Vegetarian options: Im pretty sure theres no meat here at all just fish Kid-friendliness: Staff were friendly and helpful as toddler ran around, didnt seem annoyed that he licked another tables spoons and theyd need another wash (Im so used to the uhhhh expressions other restaurants give me but here they seemed to love him)
..food delivery Parking: Very busy but lots of spots Wheelchair accessibility: Washroom in main floor. However stairs to enter premises are not accessible
Its rare to give a full five-star review. My friend said this is a century-old Israeli restaurant and you wont regret it after eating there. The bread tastes exactly like the sesame seeds I used to eat when I was a kid. It s so delicious and the service is great. Highly recommended
UB is always the best. Best food, service. It s always my families fave. Food
A family favorite for more than 25 years. A Toronto tradition. Food is great, staff is friendly and courteous and service is fast. I would and often do recommend many friends and visitors to try out UB. Kid-friendliness: Place to bring the whole family. They treat the kids their wonderfully.
Never dined in but the food is just amazing. Very good portion size for the price. Soups are fresh and delicious especially.
Always a great meal. Great service too!
I ordered through Uber Eats This restaurant really care about the quality of their food for the costumers. It s hard to find restaurants like this that care so much for us Thank you to all the Restaurant team Team Seems Lani prepared my order this time. Thank you to all of YOU again
Loved i
Consistently good. Pea soup is a family fave...4 generations of my family have loved UB!
The best! Great on the phone taking my order, and prepared quickly & accurately by Adhi.
I just love this place .
Love United Bakers; staple at Lawrence Plaza for decades. Children who grew up going there for pea soup with their grandparents are now bringing their own children. One of the most authentic and wholesome spots in Toronto.
Love this restaurant. Soups are Amazing! Greek salad is SO Good. I buy their dressing! Its a Must Have. Have been going for years!
Excellent. I ordered their famous pea soup and it did not disappoint. I also had ordered a smoked salmon plate that came with a bagel on the side. The portions are so generous. I honestly would have had enough salmon for three sandwiches . Theyre one of those restaurants that continues to fill your coffee cup like in the old days. Its amazing. I went by myself and there was a friendly elegant man sitting at the next table that struck up conversation. It seems to be a great perfect place to get together with friends when you want to have a great lunch or brunch or a family brunch. They dont serve any meat there in case you were wondering. There is also a counter when you first arrive where you can pick up amazing takeout items. Lots of different selections of bagels smoked fish and pastries. Highly recommended! Kid-friendliness: There were a few kids sitting next to me at the table with a few family members. They were very well behaved. The whole place had a real upbeat warm Vibe about it. It can get busy there so expect to wait a few minutes before getting your table. Its worth the wait. Again its not fancy its old school. Large portions and delicious food.
