La Papusa Loka: A Hidden Gem for Authentic Salvadoran Cuisine in Toronto’s West End Nestled in Toronto’s west end, La Papusa Loka is a delightful find for anyone craving authentic Salvadoran cuisine. As soon as you step inside, you are greeted with warm smiles and the inviting aroma of freshly made pupusas. The menu offers a variety of pupusas, each one generously stuffed with flavorful fillings like cheese, beans, pork, and loroco. The pupusas are perfectly cooked, with a crispy exterior and a soft, gooey center. The accompanying curtido, a tangy cabbage slaw, and the mildly spicy salsa complement the pupusas beautifully. Beyond the pupusas, the menu features other Salvadoran staples like tamales, yuca frita, and plátanos fritos. Each dish is prepared with care and attention to detail, delivering a taste of home for those familiar with the cuisine and an exciting new experience for newcomers. The atmosphere at La Papusa Loka is cozy and unpretentious, making it a great spot for a casual meal with family or friends. The service is friendly and efficient, ensuring that your dining experience is enjoyable from start to finish. In a city brimming with diverse culinary options, La Papusa Loka stands out as a must-visit for anyone looking to savor the rich and vibrant flavors of El Salvador. Whether you’re a pupusa aficionado or trying them for the first time, this charming eatery in Toronto’s west end is sure to leave you satisfied and planning your next visit.
All-round, solid variety of delicious pupusas available, La Pupusa Loca will captivate with a home-like feel of Salvadoreño roots. The staff are polite and fairly prompt, and try to maintain that during busy hours. It helps that they are bilingual, so it’s worthwhile for anyone trying to improve on their Spanish. They have other authentic Salvadoreño dishes, but they are highly known for their pupusas. It’s worth noting they also have imported beverages/sodas such as Inca Cola (Peru) and Tropicana (Ecuador). I personally love their Horchata and Tamarindo. Overall, fantastic place to indulge in your cravings for Spanish based meals. Highly recommend this place to all, family and friends alike.
Might be the best papusas in the city! The parking lot is a zoo better off parking across the street, regardless this is the go to spot for papusas, gets really busy so be ready to wait a bit and enjoy. Solid 4/5 ⭐️
Are you looking to go to El Salvador without going to El Salvador? Well, you have to try there, pupusas. The food is great, and why rated it 5 stars. Service and the atmosphere can use improvements, but the food keeps me coming back.
Budget friendly, homely, rustic food with mild flavours. Perfect for a hearty, feel-good meal. A great place to try out salvadorean cuisine. We loved the pupusas!
Food is delicious! Pupusas, chicharrón, tamales are 10/10 The soups aren’t so great to be honest, the soups have big chunks of veggies/meat instead of smaller portions ingredients within the soup… Other than the soup not being so great, the service is super slow (keep in mind they are always busy and maybe 1 or 2 waitresses for the entire place) So if you have patience and like big chunks in your soup this place is for you ! Ps - the pupusas are fantastic!
Delicious pupusas, very good service and excellent prices!!!
The food is amazing in my opinion one of the best pupusas in the GTA. Only downfall is the service takes a long time for a server to touch the table to even order drinks. My suggestion is give your drinks and food order at the same time because food also takes a long time to reach the table.
The food is delicious, but unfortunately the waitresss service is terrible, poor service, takes too long and makes faces when you order. I took my friends of another nationality and they had a bad experience with her apart from the fact that she doesnt speak English.
Good food, but people working there have to worse attitude and they take so long to bring the food
I called to place an order for take out, 40 minutes before they closed and the server said no because they were already cleaning the iron, they should update their hours and write that they close at 10:30 pm so that they no longer accept orders, The kitchen is supposed to close until the restaurant closes, what a shame they lose customers this way.
They should clean the grill or griddle where they cook the dry chicken with a very bad burnt taste. I do not recommend it at all, and they should clean where they cook better because the chicken from the mixed plate that I bought tastes terrible. I do not recommend it.
Loud music.
Very bad service, the girls seem to order something for free, and what they say is chicken soup is not it, it is tasteless chicken soup, the pupusas, if I give the ok, are good
Thank you very much and we recommend this place, it is excellent, the menu is incredible and the prices are super reasonable.,5 stars for everyone at Pupusa Loka
I love this place. Just real authentic vibes. A steak with pupusas and soccer to watch on the TVs is always a great time
Very authentic salvadorean food!
My family and I love coming here for pupusas especially on a chill Sunday. The atmosphere makes me feel like Im on vacation. My favorite pupusa is the one with zucchini. They have many options! I really like their tamales and the hot sauce has so much flavor!!
The pupusas are very delicious... and the spicy sauce is very good
I went here for the first time around a week ago. Disappointing that they dont serve coffee. The pupasas were very tasty and delicious just very soggy and like mashed together. Falls apart. Need to fry it a bit more for the outside to be crispy.
Super delicious food. The waitresss attention was terrible. Not at all pleasant
its a little wait but its worth it. these pupusas are absouloutley wonderful!!! get the chicharon on the side as well.
The assorted pupusas and chicharrones are very good
They take forever to bring you the food, very bad service, terrible service, I would say.
The food was delicious. Exquisite salad, I asked for a bit more salad, and the lady was sweet and generous to add more delicious salad for my take out order. Washrooms were absolutely clean Great customer service.
Excellent place to go and taste some delicious dishes
We had the fried beans pupusa and chicken tamale. The food was amazing we tried the El Salvadorian cuisine for the first time and loved it. Would definitely recommend if you are looking to try something new
A GOOD RESTAURANT EXCELLENT CUSTOMER SERVICE
Excellent Salvadoran food. Good atmosphere with music and screens. Careful service.
Amazing food here, and the portion sizes are massive. Their pupusas are super tasty with lots of options, and they have a supreme one that is the size of a plate with all the different fillings. Their menu does often mention Chicharróns, importantly its pork belly instead of just the skin. I also tried the Yucca fries which are very different from potato fries, and a big standout. They also have a great selection of non alcoholic drinks, including horchata. There are parts of the menu that arent fully translated into English, so its probably best to read it beforehand to understand some of the options that arent obvious. The service was relatively good, with the waitress giving us lots of clarifying information about the dishes. But when it came to paying, its extremely unclear whats expected. Some tables were delivered a bill, some people were just going up to the front to pay; it seems dependent on how busy the staff are. The parking in these strip malls is also a complete mess, so if you can park on a side street so you arent packed in like sardines. The atmosphere of the restaurant is very utilitarian, which is par for the course in these family style restaurants. The food is of such high quality, I couldnt care less. Salvador cuisine is a subsection Ive rarely seen, so I would highly recommend seeing their unique spin on classic Latin American dishes.
Amazing food, along with amazing staff and service! I will be going back for sure!
Complete hidden gem. Favourite item was tamales. Food
Really good. Very authentic, I feel like I m back in Central America
Lively atmosphere filled with very kind people. I went to pick up pupusas with a group of coworkers and friends and had a short yet sweet experience. The food is amazing- I definitely plan to return.
Everything was very delicious, we ate seafood broth and beef broth, the truth is, very well served, the pupusas were very delicious, everything was very good and good vibes, the girl who served us recommended the thanks to the staff of the pupusa loka to everyone
The food is really good, but the service is terrible, they treat you as if you were ordering a gift, the 3 girls who serve all the time look like a funeral, in general the place is covered in dirt and from what I noticed, it has good influx of people, in the bathrooms there is not even a good container for soap. Everything is delicious but unfortunately, I will not return....
Terrible service The food they offer is not what they sell
Good pupusas like the other pupuserias in the surrounding area but terrible service, as well as slow and disorganized.
Best pupusas I ever had! So delicious, fast and bachata music playing. Perfect
They said it was per friendly and once inside they said no
Food and atmosphere was awesome I have giving it 3 start for service but that day the service was good but we waited a good while for the food now maybe they were short staff that day, definitely going to repeat.
Absolutely amazing Sopa de res y mondongo. Pupusas were also great tonight. Queso, queso y Zucchini, chicharron, revuelta. All super cheesy & tasty. Wonderful service! Thanks for serving our group of 12 tonight!
The food is very delicious but it takes them a long time to bring the food. I dont know if they lack staff in the service. Suddenly the ladies are annoying and answer somewhat rudely but the food is very good and sufficient and at a good price.
Horchata was not good at all, but everything else was good, like the pupusas, cocktail de camaron, platanos
The food is very good but they are super slow
Im a big fan
Very bad service takes longer than the IMSS BAD SERVICE
Pupusas are delicious 4 stars because they dont have any dessert or coffee Service is good, very friendly, and attentive Food : 5/5
I can say the popusas are delicious
The Pupusa Loka really attracts us, the Supreme pupusa with a single pupusa leaves you very satisfied, the chicharrones with fried tortillas are also a very good option. Recommended at 10, it is a restaurant with a family vibe.
The food is good but we waited more than 45 minutes for 3 popusas and there were no other people
Terrible service, more than an hour waiting for 2 popusas, its good but if you want to eat here you better order them in the morning when they open so they can deliver them to you at meal time, why if you come hungry, wait more than an hour For two popusas it is terrible.
I love this place, the girls are super friendly, the food is delicious, the service is super fast and the good music they play is another Roll , highly recommended.
Very good pupusas but the service is terrible. If you order to go it is very fast. But if you go into the restaurant to eat, you will wait a long time for the food to arrive at the table or for it not to arrive due to so much waiting. The last time I went I ended up waiting 40 minutes since I ordered and my food never arrived. The waitresses were asked several times and they responded that they were almost there with a very bad attitude and the food never arrived. I paid for my soft drinks and left.
Great service and food. Ordered the fritura and pupusas and was really good!!
Good food.
Food is good but takes for everrrrr!!!!! I waited over 1 hour lol
Delicious food but service is not very good
Great spot for work lunch
Great local spot for papusas. I found the papusas here larger than other places Ive been too. They have the classic choices for papusas with one or two unique flavours. Prices are decent and the staff are attentive and friendly. Will be back to try more of the menu, especially the horchata.
Amazing service and food was so delicious!!
Great food and great prices
Very good puposa. The supreme popusa is the best! Super cheap and good. Super recommend!
Best pupusas in town.
Amazing spot for pupusas! They had a lot of options and each one is a pretty decent size. I got the cheese and chicken, beans and cheese and zucchini and cheese. I was only able to finish one because it was so filling and I took the other two home. We also got the plantain and sour cream which is a much try!
Everything is really good the only problem is the music its way too loud
Good place for pupusas, however I spend $90 on pupusas to go and there was no side items (salsa/curtido) to go with it. Disappointing to just eat it without as it.
The staff is very rude and the waiting time is the worst, 1 hour and a half for some pupusas.
A+ Experience, I need to go back go try new dishes they have a big menu that looks very promising.
Authentic El Salvadoran food. Fresh and good service!
Very rich but too late and the weekday waitress is so, so arrogant that she doesnt even want to return, in case she doesnt like her job she should change because her attitude makes people stop going to the place, apart from that she gives a Terrible service and super reluctant. I hope they change it soon because from what I have been reading it is the same with all clients. And if they should do something about that waitresss attitude
Excellent service and good treatment
THE BEST PUPUSAS IN THE WHOLE TORONTO & GTA!!!!! IF I CAN GIVE 10+ PLUS STAR I WILL BE GIVEN!!!! PLEASE PEOPLE DO YOURSELF A FAVOR COME AND CHECK OUT THIS PLACE!!!! SO DELICIOUS
Amazing service and food was great!
I went to take an order. There was a friendly lady at the cash register in the restaurant. It was pretty busy inside. The atmosphere is good but could be better. I liked it, it was a natural place.
Good food, just a little late
I think its good but its not that delicious
A very warm and quiet place
Great food
Average food, u could find better options here. The waitress are always busy and they are mean most of the time. The place and atmosphere is really bad ngl. Pupusas are a 8/10, Horchata 10/10.
After finally getting a parking space on this Sat afternoon, I entered the restaurant and went to the counter to place a take out order as there were no signs, it was busy and appeared to have 1 waitress who totally ignored me standing at the what I assumed to be the ordering location there was 1 lady ahead of me, finally someone came from the back to take her order then again totally ignored me and walked away to the kitchen .I waited another 10 min with still no one even acknowledging I was there and decided they did not want my business and left .I am an older white female Caucasian that speaks primarily English and perhaps no one there spoke English but to be totally ignored at a place of business was shocking .because my Latino spouse wants pupusas and chichiron, taking him this time we may try in early pm on a weekday and perhaps they can hablar with him very disappointed as drove from Ajax .Jackie
Everything bad
Very good service excellent food very good music
The waiting time to bring the food is too much 1 hour for 2 products is too long
We love this place because the food it s always fresh and very tasty. The restaurant itself its very clean. Might have to wait a little bit for your food but that s because it s made on the spot. 10/10 recommended.
I am completely appalled at how badly we were treated the few times we ve visited this so called restaurant. We were not acknowledged at all despite standing at the register for 10 mins, the two girls at the front looked right past us as they spoke to customers behind us who were not even there before us. This isn t the first time and I doubt It d be the last but it s definitely my last visit. unfortunately for us, it is the closest pupusa location but the food is definitely not worth the disrespect or treatment we ve received, if anybody has any other recommendations, please let me know.
Parking: Service is great. Sonia and her team do a marboules job. Best pupusas in GTA Food
I like to go to eat at this place JUST for the taste of the food, you have a service from the cleaning, the waitress and in general all the people who work in that place ALWAYS serve you reluctantly. The waitresses serve the men quickly and with smiles, but they give us women faces and take ages to serve us! Terrible service. Those waitresses are pitiful.
Food is excellent however my only negative is the pricing. Extremely expensive for pupusas.
Terrible service from the waitresses but the food is delicious
Great food and atmosphere some of the best Pupusas I ve had
If you want to try Latin American food from el Salvador, this is the place , food was amazing everything that we ordered, the service needs to improve mind you they were very friendly, and definitely would go back. Parking: First the parking is horrible they need to fix that it needs pavement and second there is never a parking makes it hard to enter the plaza and shop or enjoy the restaurants or the bakery there so that needs a major improvement.
The best pupusas I have ever eaten
The food was good, but the service was terrible. I am Ecuadorian and I dont know Salvadoran food. Instead of explaining, the waitress made a bad face and stared at me so I could choose the quick dish. I had to ask her to come back later because she didnt know. what to choose. According to a friend of mine, she tells me that they have terrible service! I wouldnt go back just for that...
The food is very good, the customer service and telephone service is terrible. It seems like theyre doing you a favor. You cant place an order over the phone because they dont know what time they will have it ready.
As a self proclaimed pupusa connoisseur who s tried basically every pupusa spot in Toronto, i can say: These are THE best pupusas in Toronto. Don t even waste time going somewhere else! Also the place reminds me so much of Latin America, and the staff is lovely.
Best pupusas in town
The food is delicious, the service is very slow and rude.
First time coming here and it seems like a mom and pop type of restaurant. Servers were friendly and attentive. And their pupusas are amazing. Busy on a Friday night, the food prices are ridiculously good with the quality and quantity you get. Would definitely recommend this restaurant to anyone.
The worst experience I have had so far in a restaurant, from the beginning the waiters behaved in a disastrous way, it took them approximately 30 minutes just to bring us some dishes, while customers continued to arrive and they even gave them what they asked for quickly, After 40 minutes they brought us half of what we ordered and they werent even kind enough to tell us which was which. In the end we didnt want to waste any more of our time and went on to leave. Bad service experience
My go to spot for fresh pupusas! I usually do take out, order them via phone and theyre ready in 20-30 mins. Great price for authentic, quality, fresh food! Staff are always kind and attentive!
The supreme pupusa is the best!! The service is good too! Thank you for making me feel in my little country again.
The food is decent. The pupusas are good. Ive been there a few times what I dont like is the service is slow and there is not so many waitress waited for food for about 1hr and 15 mins. I kept asking the waitress for things, and they ignored me. They needed to be more attentive to the customers. They allowed people from outside to come into the restaurant and sell chocolates, and the entertainment was going table asking for tips, which I thought as well that was very unprofessional. And parking is horrible there is none.
If you live in Toronto and want to live the Salvadoran experience, La Pupusa Loka is the right place to transport yourself to this small Latin American country. Here it seems that time and distance have not had an impact at all, and the flavors, the smells, the decoration, the loud music and the atmosphere in general will make you feel like you are actually enjoying yourself in a pupuseria in any neighborhood of El Salvador. Pupusa is the typical Salvadorean food and is a kind o tortilla filled with cheese, beans, and chicharrones. But at La Pupusa Loka, you can also find a lot of other options of salvadorean dishes, as you can see in the menus photos. Tip: it is better to make a reservation and order in advance what you are going to eat because on a Saturday afternoon, the place is literally permanently full. Excellent Salvadorean food in this restaurant.
slaps
Pupusa suprema
Tasted Salvadoran cuisine for the first time and was amazed by the incredible flavors.
Very rich and clean
Both take out and dine-in can have an excessive long wait sometimes when its busy but the food is definitely worth it!
First time trying food from El Salvador, we ordered a few items to try: pupusas de queso y de chicharrón, tamal, plátanos con crema and plato típico salvadoreño con carne. Everything was delicious, very interesting to try their version of arepas (pupusas), they are different than Venezuelan and Colombian in texture and flavor but really yummy. Will repeat when we are in the area again.
Best typical Salvadoran food in the city and the definitely the most delicious pupusas! Best prices for amount and quality food and always friendly staff, which may seem like a big deal, but thats normal of Salvadoran people! Of Of course typical Latin music always playing, nice vibe!
Loved the tamales. Papusas and coleslaw were good. Prepare to wait ! The food is worth it.
Best pupusas in Toronto! The food is amazing with good prices!
One of the best pupils in Toronto
This little restaurant ( only 1 of 2) delivers a huge punch with their quality of food. Other places lack either in the pupusa or curtido. This place has both original taste and original recipe. I travel 1hr just to have dinner here. Enough said. Dietary restrictions: It is El Salvadoran dishes. They cannot be changed for vegetarians. It just wouldnt be anything Salvadoran if changed.
Top notch food. Best pupusas money can buy. Great service. Highly recommended. The food is super delicious. Best pupusas that money can buy.
Very rich!
Great Latino place !
Terrible service from the waitresses, apart from the fact that they take a while to serve you and they still do it reluctantly and making faces.... I ordered 6 popusas and of which they only brought me 4 to the table, I didnt say anything about it because it was a shame. They want to help, its the first time Ive been there and the treatment was terrible.
Great pupusa. Love the tamales too. Fairly priced!
