Snug Japanese find for fine sushi & seafood delicacies, with specials posted on colourful drawings.
Authentic Japanese restaurant split between 2 units, which are both relatively small. I came on a Sunday night and they weren't full. You'll need reservations during busy times. Although the food tastes great, the wait time for food was ridiculously long - felt like 20 minutes just for sashimi. The waitress needing to walk between the 2 units don't help either. The decor could use some updating, as it is quite outdated. Food is on the pricier side, but expected at a real Japanese restaurant. However overall, I would choose a less authentic restaurant if it meant having faster service and a more modern atmosphere. They have dessert at affordable prices.
We were very hyped trying this restaurant. We decided to try it based on the reviews. Sadly our experience was not as anticipated. We ordered a set menu 30 pcs of sushi and sashimi, udon, soba, and beef tataki. The sushi/sashimi was not to temperature. Beef tataki had a strong liquid smoke smell. The beef also didn't look too appetizing. The shrimp sashimi was not fresh. Our server was very nice and helpful. We will not be returning.
My wife and I had an incredible dining experience at this charming, family-run Japanese restaurant tucked away in a quiet plaza. The peaceful atmosphere made it the perfect spot for a relaxed meal, away from the usual hustle and bustle. The food was absolutely outstanding—every dish was fresh, flavourful, and beautifully presented. The service was equally excellent, with the staff being both friendly and attentive. We truly enjoyed every moment of our visit and will definitely be coming back. Highly recommended for anyone looking for an authentic and intimate dining experience 👍
Ms. Mari & Mr. Endo are forever best in my opinion. My wife and I have been visiting for 6years+ now, every single time we are there we get the best food, service and heart full of hospitality. It’s the people and quality of the restaurants that bring us back time after time. 100% would recommend. Mari & Endo if you are seeing this, we love you 🫶🏻
Unfortunately I don’t understand how this restaurant has such a high rating because the food was not good. We ordered the sashimi omakase, tempura soba, and dragon roll. We started with the sashimi omakase which was decent as some pieces were great but some were quite fishy like the salmon. Our soba was very bland and only palatable after mixing in some soy sauce. The dragon roll tasted very funky because of the tobiko on top. The server was nice, however, the experience was odd as we were brought out of the restaurant and 2 units down to be seated in a separate unit. There is tailor shop in between the two units meaning that the servers could only be bussing the food over by walking outside and back inside.
This place is absolutely amazing. Me and my wife love Japanese food however it's not easy to find authentic Japanese places. Then we found this hidden gem in our neighborhood. The staff is so nice and welcoming they will explain you the dishes if you are new to Japanese food and they will gladly explain and make suggestions too. We had a really nice conversation with Mari while dining ”she is the one dressed up in a kimono". And the best part, the food .. is absolutely amazing 🤩 it's soo good and high quality. Most of the items are imported from Japan. If you are a authentic Japanese cuisine lover you must try them.
Although we did not have a reservation, the staff was kind enough to offer us a spot by the sushi bar. It was nice to see the sushi chef in action. The sashimi and rolls were very fresh and good. I’ve always heard of good things about this place and the chef, glad it did not disappoint. Look forward to coming back to trying more items on the menu.
It is still one of the best Japanese restaurants on my fav list. Attentive service with excellent food quality. The udon was soft and soup base is just right. The tempura shrimp might be on a dryer side therefore you would dip a bit more sauce. I do orded the House Special Omakasa Sushi set, it was so good that I forgot to take the photos. But the appetizers that came with the set are in the photos. It was original set for 2 ppl and nice waitress recommended to upgrade a bit to the three person course. It ended up it is good enough for my group of four ppl, thank you so much for that. Will definitely come when in the future.
Amazing sushi!
Not only is Aoyama one of a very few Toronto gems that serves actual sushi, it is a gem among gems. End -san is a dedicated sushi chef who came from having worked in the best of T ky s best. He is uncompromising where the quality of his sushi is concerned. This insistence on quality extends to the kitchen as well... which delivers wonder upon wonder. Aoyamas dobimushi, a broth of seafood included in the Aoyama set, is better than any Ive had in Japan. And the lobster served with the same set is among the best Ive eaten anywhere. The staff are nothing less than delightful... Dining at Aoyama is one of the few times that I can feel as if Ive returned to Japan without having got on a plane.
Oufff I looked at the Google review and choose to try it, but upon entrance, it smelled so bad that I turned around. Perhaps the food is good, but I couldnt dare to try it.
I love this place, maybe my favourite place in Toronto. Upscale sushi for a good price. The decor and vibe is welcoming and cozy. Refreshingly free of slick design and gimmicks, it was simply charming. A true gem of a place. Service was good as well. Highly recommend.
This hidden gem of authentic Japanese food, music, and staff. The food quality was excellent, but on the small scale. Be sure to ask about the weekday evening specials.
Great food, great service, I love this place.
The food was good. The fish were imported from Japan and we had uni that was just delivered from Vancouver. Note the service is slow, but when the food does come everything is explained.
Been to omakase before and wow this place has the freshest fish I ve had in Toronto. I came from downtown to eat here and it did not disappoint. I never knew sushi and sashimi can be this good! I ll 100% be back! Also shoutout to the team for making a sign and singing happy birthday for the special occasion! This girl who works everyday is the sweetest. They also gave us a gift and we couldn t have had a better experience. This is lowkey quiet spot but the food speaks for itself
The salmon sashimi was fishy. Do not order the dragon roll with fish eggs/toviko on top it was very funky and nearly inedible. Unfortunately, the Soba was flavourless and very bland. Service was great and we were treated kindly.
Love this place. Been here twice already and got to say, it s pretty consistent. Great value, lovely service, and great ambience. Check out the pictures, they ll speak for themselves. Was so good I forgot to take pictures till half way through They had monkfish, uni, and other fishes that were from Japan exclusively.
I love how authentic the food is here. The fish is fresh and the service was fantastic. I also enjoyed their green tea and black seasme ice cream. Its a great and cozy place to celebrate special occasions.
It was a perfect experience food was very delicious, nice service You wont regret coming here
We initially went in to order takeout and were given the menu. However, when we were ready to place our order, they told us they were too busy and asked us to leave. The store wasn t even that busy there was only one table of guests. It was a very rude and frustrating experience, easily the worst Ive had. If you cant accommodate new customers, maybe don t reconsider running a restaurant.
got allergy reaction after eating here, be careful
We were back again in Jun 2024 for . This restaurant run by a real Japanese chef. The food portion was reasonable, sushi, sasahmi were fresh, very tender wagyu beef.
Wonderful
A very unique fine dining experience. Expect to be there for a few hours. The waitress was so pretty in traditional clothing and make up! It definitely has a bit of old fashioned and traditional vibes. The only thing I think they might need to improve is the wallpaper that seems to be peeling a bit, especially in the washroom.
They have absolutely the best fish in town. Wagyu is also So good. Great price as well
Likely the best sushi you will find in Toronto, and Ive been to many, many different spots - I highly recommend the sushi omakase. The ambiance is great, the staff are super friendly, the service is incredible, and the sushi is so fresh using only the highest quality of fish and other ingredients (their tamago is made in house, for example). They also have a good selection of sake to pair with your meal.
Best Sushi in Toronto by the value. The quality of the fish and sushi is comparable with all the Michelin starred restaurants in downtown. Amazing service as well.
One of the very few and rare Japanese-run Japanese restaurants in Scarborough . So make sure to make a reservation by phone beforehand. P.S. MATCHA IS FREE
I found a good restaurant near my house. The price is a bit expensive ($110 per head), but the service is fast, and the sashimi is of good quality and variety, so I enjoyed the meal. We had Winter Omakase /$220 (2 people) I ate, drank a glass of Asahi draft beer, and a bottle of Kubota Senju. The food came out quickly and without interruption, and considering the price, there were a variety of sashimi and good quality, the fried crab was crispy, and the wagyu was delicious. The last dessert is also very delicious. I recommend it as a place to eat out on a special day, and I ate a generous 3 and a half hours... I think it operates on a reservation system (reservation required).
This restaurant is an East Toronto treasure and with quality of sushi and sashimi, this restaurant could easily stand up to any of the super high end Toronto sushi restaurants. The owner/Sushi Chef is an artisan - his knife skills and attention to quality are top shelf. His Hama Collar is better than those I have had in world class Japanese restaurants in NYC and LA. My husband and I recently moved over an hour out of the city but will still make a monthly trip with a cooler packed with ice to get takeout. And George is amazing, he makes every guest feel oh so welcomed, ensures every need is attended to and has amazing menu suggestions and shares if there is a new fish they are offering if it has just come into season. Scarborough/North York - you are oh so lucky to have Aoyama Sushi, first class food, best in class customer service at a fraction of price that a downtown restaurant would charge for this level of quality. Worth the drive back to city! Parking: Plenty of spots, many in front of the restaurant
This is my favourite sushi spot in all of Toronto. The omakase is out of this world. The service is always excellent. Love to be able to sit and watch the chef do his art.
Exquisite Japanese cuisine, fresh fish prepared using traditional Japanese techniques, unforgettable
Tonight was my second time dining here and so far both times were for my parents birthday. This time I brought a cake and they graciously came out and sang happy birthday for my mom! I really appreciated this gesture as not many restaurants are willing to accommodate outside food which I completely understand. Needless to say, service is impeccable and warm at this restaurant. The food is a notch above any Japanese restaurant in the GTA. The tempura is simple but obviously well executed. We ordered a sashimi platter both times but tried other dishes too like the fried soft shell crab which was very delicate and easy to eat for people too lazy to crack a shell. Its a small restaurant so the food does take longer but I think the pace is more relaxed and suited to the atmosphere :) the price reflects the diversity of their ingredients and dishes as I dont think there are many places serving monkfish liver and deep fried crab alongside imported sashimi. Overall, highly recommend for a special occasion!
I had the upgraded omakase set for two, for the price, the fish selection was very poor same goes for the quality and taste. Uni and scallop were especially fishy, tuna and salmon belly didnt have much taste and were fishy, unagi was dry, rice was mushy. We had a good experience with the waitress.
Absolute best sushi I ve ever had and the steak teriyaki was second to none. Finally a Japanese owned and Japanese cooked real Japanese restaurant. If I can give this place 10 stars I would.
We just had a light meal, udon this time.
Its really expensive compared other and standard shawarma! We just eat 2 Shawarma wrap they charge us $40 CND it means almost doubled fee!
My wife took me here for dinner. We ordered the seven course meal for two. The quality of food was exceptional. From start to finish each course outdid the other. The chef takes great care to buy the best ingredients. Very impressed.
Best unagi don in town! Double portion too! I started coming since they opened, actually started eating chefs cooking before aoyama opened when chefs were at Katsura. Their food is always great and authentic! Unagi don fom $28 to $33, now back to $31. Business is tough, they need support! Its pretty slow during the week.
2023 January 4.5 Still very good. Service could be a bit quicker, however, do understand that its a small personable operation. Their other VIP section (for larger groups) has a nice, cozy sitting area. Fish continues to be fresh. Food continues to be great. April 2022 5 A nice small authentic and top notch Japanese restaurant located in an unexpected part of the city. Here, youll be greeted by staff who are gentle and polite. Inside, there are only 4 tables for a total seating of about 20 people. They do have a VIP side which is next door with a bar. Why youd pick this restaurant? If your like me and youve been to many Japanese restaurants, the variety of fish is all the same. Here, youll find some different varieties without paying for too much. Sure, you can go to very high end, but this place does a good job. They have a large selection of fish and some of which are from Japan. They make their own eel and not like those store bought pre seasoned versions. Here, its authentic. The fish was all great. No complaints there. The dragon roll was also very good. The beef tataki was very good. I would definitely recommend this if your deciding between the wafu steak. Overall, great service, would recommend, booking in advance is recommended.
The people said the food is good, but not my expectation. The tempura shirmp is too much powder, Taro is thin and Salmon is like half piece too. I think may be I order the pcs, if u order the sashimi set, looks better. The price is expensive.
Authentic sushi and lovely customer service!
My fiancée and I went to Aoyama to celebrate a special occasion had a wonderful meal. The fish was fresh, the service was kind and attentive without being obsessive, and we were happy we made the trip out of the city to check this place out. I don t often trust certain seafood like uni outside on Japan, but it was fantastic. Can t wait to return.
Wife and I came here for our anniversary. I havent been here for over 10 years and the impression of great quality still remains. The quality was excellent. We had a Winter Dinner Special and the curation of the food with the value was excellent. It had everything my wife and I enjoyed to eat plus some new experiences. I cant name anything that I didnt enjoy. I support these small businesses who manage their capacity to deliver an excellent meal and experience without the overcharging. Theyve over delivered in their experience in many occasions with small noticeable thoughtful touches like just prior to a cold dish, they would serve a hot dish to warm the stomach. They gave such a great authentic Japanese experience - nice and homey. Great value without the over commercialized overpriced stuff. It was just a nice observation to see the entitled get rejected because some people expecting that when they drop in theyd have something available for them. Be courteous, get a reservation so you can just enjoy the food and experience. Dont blame them for your mismanagement.
Sushi is fresh and delicious. Service is very friendly. I have been here a couple of times and I have enjoyed my meal every time.
Like being back in Japan!
Let me start by saying that I have tried at least 20 sushi places in Toronto. This place by far was perhaps the worst ones. It was very expensive and the least value for money. They only offered 3 rolls and we ordered the dragon roll which was for $23 and it was the most average and least tasty dragon roll we have ever had. The shrimp tempura was $23 and it had 8 small shrimp pieces. the service was also extremely slow.
Good quality food + excellent customer service
Really enjoyed our time here! The food was fantastic and was really good value, and the service was also great. We got the winter special set menu. While I thoroughly enjoyed every course, some of my personal favourites were the soft shell crab and the yuzu cheesecake. This place is definitely a hidden gem and is worth a visit. We ll be coming back here for sure!
A hidden gem - Shoutout to the amazing chefs and server for the wonderful experience. We ordered the Aoyama Course for 3 people. Each dish came out swiftly after we finished a course. The server was very kind and explained the details of each dish. Everything was beautifully presented and had lovely touches such as gold flakes on the sashimi. I will definitely be coming back! *Tip: Ensure you make a reservation as there is limited seating and please note that their opening hours begin at 5pm.
Compare to the $250 pp omakase that I spent, I think this is the hidden gem that provides good quality seafood
Great service, great food, quality is amazing. It feels like a family owned business. Definitely recommend for anyone who wants some quality sushi.
Five stars rating is just underrated. I will give 10 to Aoyama Sushi. Sashimi is always fresh and their variety keeps me happy every time I visit. Always get recommendations from the manager. Professional and friendly staff. Eating environment is just like coming home but the food is professionally prepared. I m very happy eating at Aoyama Sushi and I have recommended many of my new friends and clients to go there for sushi.
The tuna sashimi in the sashimi platter was good, sea urchin was not fresh at all and portion was small, others sashimi are average. Shrimp tempura soba not worth to try. Monkfish liver is quite special. The cheesecakes are the regular ones so not bad. The weather was hot that day and I felt a bit hot, not sure if they turned the AC on. Only one server so he was busy in serving multiple tables. I would say my experience was average maybe I had some expectations before going to this restaurant.
As someone who doesn t like sushi, i loved almost every thing we ate here, highly recommend!
What a great spot! The food is fresh and delicious. Fantastic service. We will definitely be back!
Aoyama has some of the best sushi in the city. A great place for a date or with a small group. All of the food is so fresh and delicious. The staff are excellent at providing recommendations. They have limited seating so its best to make a reservation to ensure you can enjoy this amazing restaurant!
A hidden gem! Great suggestion from server to share the omakase courses. Definitely will be back!!
Came here to celebrate our birthdays (were one day apart) and it was an unforgettable experience. I think I enjoyed the service here more than the food itself, which was good in its own right. The Aoyama course was VERY filling. I thought the sushi was just so-so (some of the fish were not premium cuts), but everything else was consistently good. I liked that they gave us a whole lobster for the tempura course! The soup dish with mushroom and bamboo was also a standout because of its delicate taste and presentation. This place is quite out of the way but its a hidden gem. Do come here if youre celebrating a special event because youre in for a treat!
I personally love this place so much! Good quality omakase with good price and their hello kitty hallway on the downstairs(must sea hah) ! I ve tried their both omakase menu, Akasaka course and Aoyama course. (Difference is the sashimi plate being included or not and I think it is 100%worth it to pick Aoyama course for it!) They also serve thinly sliced hirami, butter lobster dish, tempura, soup and sushi as well as dessert. Just a right amount for a person in my opinion. Make sure to visit their instagram account and downstairs washroom hallway as it is so much fun and make sure to try this place, it may not be the fancyiest place but the quality of the food with its price is unbeatable!
Their Aoyama omakase is a really great deal. The decor and atmosphere is sophisticated and quiet. The basement washroom is Hello Kitty themed and its really cute. Service from their staff is fantastic and I highly recommend Aoyama for dates or special celebrations.
Sashimi and Sushi are really fresh and tasty. Staffs are friendly and welcoming. The place is a bit old but it is neat and clean.
Yummy food and good service. All the fish was really fresh and great quality, and the service was great. Mari is really kind. The Aoyama course was very filling, and the fried lobster is a must-try
Very good sushi at a reasonable price. Just had the$128 omakasa for 2. Good fish, good sushi. Will come back
Hidden Gem. Great authentic Japanese place.
Not a beautiful setting (2 storefronts in a strip mall) but fabulous, authentic Japanese cuisine served with great care by an enthusiastic staff. The quality of the sushi is far, far better than the vast majority of sushi joints in the GTA. Not cheap, by any means, but for food of this quality its worth every penny.
I was undewelmed with their omakasa. The uni and tuna tasted a little off and was the best they have to offer? Price point is substantial lower then the other higher end omakasa in the GTA. It has dated decor and wont mind if the food was very good because I eat in many hole in the wall ,but the food has to be amazing. This was ok sushi but not at that price point.
Amazing Omakase experience on a weekday ($125/2 ppl, Monday-Thursday special) We got to try so many new things and enjoyed every bite. Everything was very fresh and a lot of the fish was seasonal, we had Akagai which isnt commonly found in sushi restaurants in the city. Service was quick and friendly, there was only 4 tables so I imagine reservations are usually needed. We will definitely be back again to enjoy more Omakase with the Chef.
Good
Pricey. Delicious sushi and other Japanese dishes which you wont be able to get from other place near by quality-wise. Pricey but the place will make you grin if you are a sushi fan like me. Omakase was satisfactory and would go back again. Making a reservation is required but I got lucky and was able to get in on a Sunday night. Update since 2018: Thank you again for the birthday meal! Ill definitely visit again to use the discount voucher:) Vegetarian options: Yes Dietary restrictions: Yes Kid-friendliness: Yes Wheelchair accessibility: Not the best but Im sure the staff will help you
One of the best Japanese restaurants in Toronto. The sushi is delicious and its clear effort and care is put into the dishes.
Simply devine. Some of the best quality fish I have come across. Very happy and I look forward to returning.
Aoyama is a true destination for authentic Japanese cuisine in Toronto. Once inside the restaurant, it is like being back in Japan -- high quality food, courteous staff and a relaxed decor. Always an excellent experience.
Fresh sushi, reasonably priced. Came on a Friday night and was seated in the newer section of the store, not the original location.
Was seated in the other side. Not the nicest decorated space but have booths so thats a plus. Had the omkase. Food is not bad but not amazing as some others reviewed - May be 3.5 stars
Aoyama offered two Omakase options (one slightly cheaper without sashimi) and we tried both for our date night. Everything tasted fresh like we remembered from our first visit 2 years ago. We also took their recommended sake pairing and it was a great match
Good family run restaurant with top ingredients. The service is on the slow side but worth the wait.
Always the best, yummy food and comfy space
Excellent customer service and quality food. So impressed. Definitely make reservations! The omakase was the perfect way to start my bday weekend
A local gem. Recommend making a reservation for this place as it is small. High quality sashimi and sushi. The people there are friendly and happy to answer any questions. Great place to take a loved one or a small family.
Everything was authentic Japanese taste. Sushi is always very fresh, perfectly made with well balance between the amount of fish and rice. Wagyu beef was so tender it actually melt in your mouth. Tempura batter was light and crispy, portion was generous with a great variety of vegetables. Service was friendly and helpful. Been here many times and it never disappoints.
Great fresh food and friendly helpful service. Price hasnt changed much in two years.
I finally got to try it and ordered the omakase. It was very good and did not disappoint. I don t know where you can find better value to be honest. I was made aware of this place by word of mouth, and I was shocked to hear of a high calibre sushi place in this area of Scarborough. The food quality does not match the neighbourhood.
Rarely found Japanese restaurant run by Japanese ppl. Great good. Great vibe. The sushi is fresh and taste great. Tempura was great. I guess it was made in a traditional way. Food was steamed before being tempura .
Excellent omakase
Delicious meal and wonderful customer service!
We were seated in the adjacent VIP Room and once you get over the 80s Steakhouse decor, the food is excellent. We had the upgraded omakase and everything was uniformly excellent. Tremendous value for the money as other places are significantly more expensive. Service was also excellent.
Craving sushi but cant eat all so decided to give Aoyama a try. Came here on a Friday night and we were the only one so we got seated right away. One thing I noticed straight away is that the place is very compact and only had four tables. I do know they have a VIP space with more room, but need to make a reservation for that. Next is the food. The sashimi plate was great. I enjoyed the assortment of fish we got. The two sushi rolls was bigger than I expected. All of the rolls comes in 10 pieces per order. Finally, the staff is fantastic. Very courteous and polite. He answered my question regarding the sashimi platter. Overall, I enjoyed my time here and will book a reso for next time!
Not an expensive place, and it worth every penny you spend here ! Food is way above average in its class!
Dine In | Akasaka Omakase Really unique flavors and fresh sushi I loved the brown butter lobster and tempura Must try: blue fin tuna, and hamachi
Couldn t believe we missed this authentic Japanese restaurant all these years hidden in north york. Mari took excellent care of us and even suggested the freshly arrived mackerel imported from Japan, it was really fresh! Besides that both my husband and I enjoyed the monkfish liver and both agreed the assorted tempura was done perfectly! Anyone can fry up a batch of tempura but in order to get the perfect light crispy crust without the heavy greasy feeling is quite difficult to achieve. 100% for the tempura without a doubt! We appreciate the birthday card it was such a nice touch! Thank you Mari & Chef for the lovely muti-course dinner & dessert it was wonderful!
If youre looking for delicious sushi meal and a quiet, relaxing atmosphere to enjoy it in, this is great option. The restaurant is nicely decorated and reasonably priced, and the sushi is some of the best Ive had. I was a very happy customer overall.
I started liking this place hence I was going to go twice or three times a week, however tonights experience changed it all... the service I received was extremely unprofessional. 1) The waiter (who had visible tattoos - just for identification purposes) never bothered bringing tea. I asked at least two/three times, which is still ok because it is no biggie to me. 2) When I asked him if there was fish missing from the sashimi set, he said did you already eat it? Really? The first thing you ask is did I already eat it? you just put it down less than a minute ago... after politely saying no, he unhappily went to the chef with the sashimi set and the chef seems like he knew something was wrong so he added it back the missing fish. It is about the attitude and how he handled the situation not so much about the 3 PC of fish because we all make mistakes. *I admit I did wanted the squid* 3) when I finished paying, he complained about how the tip was too little.. I did pay 10% but definitely not more so he said I cant leave and had to get the manager. I complied because I want to know what they will say even though they have NO RIGHT to not let me leave. I PAID FOR MY MEAL in FULL. Heres the best part.. The manager said paying very little tip will not motivate my staff to do better and will affect the service I said straight up, Im sorry that is NOT MY PROBLEM... you have to manage your staffs service Im a customer and tip is a payment for service. It is NOT mandatory. I do NOT believe I receive decent service... If I knew he would even have the guts to come tell me that I would have NOT PAID TIPS. You be the judge... as for the other comments on this page - yes, I can tell you the fishes are fresh and yes, it is pricey. However this is the service I received from both the waiter and the manager. Carefully look at the date of the receipts - this will probably be my last visit in a long time...
Cutest spot with really great sushi! We got their special rolls (ATC, spicy salmon tempura) and salmon sashimi. The fish tasted fresh and light. We had leftovers and it tasted fresh the next day too! I definitely recommend this hidden gem.
Authentic sushi place. Sushi was good. Fyi...there are no bento boxes on the menu.
After two long years, got a chance to visit Aoyama Sushi again! We met George who has a very refreshing pleasant personality and amazing customer service! Food is still very delicious at a very reasonable price! Will definitely come back again!!
A hidden gem and definitely one of the best sushi places in the city. It s in a little nondescript plaza on Victoria park beside a KFC. They only have 4 tables so you absolutely need reservations or you won t be seated. The food is very fresh and very high quality.
Ordered the omakase set (not all shown in pics). I enjoyed it but nothing really blew me away. I definitely want to go back though and try just their sashimi and nigiri pieces.
We went to try the omakase here. It was our first Omakase experience and it definitely set the bar high. We opted to add on wagyu to our meal and it was so fun to watch them blowtorch it and also melts in your mouth. The sushi definitely stole the show here. The unagi sushi was absolutely life changing!!!! So much delicious and very well curated food PLUS at a great price point. WE WILL BE BACK!! Thank you so much for the amazing time :) ** make sure you book reservations in advance as it is a smaller/cozy spot
The food was super fresh and the service was wonderful and fast. The food came one by one in the perfect order of courses. I recommend the kaisa salad for it was a fresh variety of seaweed with a tasty dressing. Excellent quality and would definitely recommend.
What can I say about this place other than its probably one of the best hidden gem sushi restaurants in the city. The quality of the fish reminds me of Tokyo. Everything is always fresh and amazing. The omakase for $75 is a steal Been back for the chef plate sushi. Only one word can describe it. AMAZING!
Ive been to Aoyama a few times before but tonight is the first time since the pandemic. And the food and service is still as wonderful as before. Even though it was a busy time with lots of take out and bringing customers to the VIP lounge, George was excellent at his job and didnt make us feel rushed. He provided top notch service. We ordered the Akasaka course and added side orders of deep fried soft shell crab, monkfish liver and an order of negitoro sushi. Everything was delicious. We even got another order of soft shell crab to take away as they were so big and beautifully fried.
Today, I have a more mix review for this place. On the plus side, the food here is good (is on the upper side among the Japanese restaurants from my experience). The sashimi are fresh, the cold udon, and the crab porridge are good. The server is nice too. I really hope they could publish the menu on a website, which would be nice. But Today I also noticed a problem (or room for improvements, to be specific). I ordered the assorted tempura for dinner, but It came out really SLOW (like an hour), which was not supposed to happen for a Japanese restaurant like this (and that s the reason I give this one a four stars instead of five, even though the food is indeed for five) The server told me that there were a lot of guests ordered this, so it took time to prepare and serve the dishes. I m still not sure why this happened, but from what I can see, I really hope that the restaurant could figure out how to solve that problem (probably hire one more person or something). Here are my comments about the restaurant. It is still a very good Japanese restaurant, run by Japanese, on Victoria Park, and it really worth the visit!
Great Japanese food in Toronto OISHII !!! Ordered : Sushi, Beef Takiti, Tempura, Eel rice all very good Should visit the basement floor to all Hello Kitty fans.
Cozy little Japanese place. We went for omakase for 4. Sashimi and sushi were fresh, the lobster was perfectly done. The presentation was excellent and service was fantastic. Would definitely return for more.
Delicious as usual, with great service, one thing I do enjoy here is that it small and quaint, you can carry on a conversation without having to yell across the table to your fellow dinners.
Amazing food and great service. The waiter was extremely engaging. Make sure you make a reservation. Lots of people showed up and they were fully booked.
The food is just ok as compared to the price. I had higher expectations than what I got. Service was excellent though!
High quality sushi and sashimi. The set dinner has good variety of complementary dishes. Reservation recommended.
One of the very few and rare Japanese-run Japanese restaurants in uptown. We ordered an Omakase sushi set and it was delicious. The Umi and Toro are so fresh and juicy, the rest of the sashimi are decent too. Note that Omakase is not served traditionally by the chef piece by piece, but rather a plate of each course to your table by the server. It is not a downside considering it is also much cheaper than other traditional Omakase places in town. Seating is limited, and a lot of walk-ins get turned down while we are dining on a Wednesday night. So make sure to make a reservation by phone beforehand. P.S. MATCHA IS FREE Parking: Outdoor parking lot with 20+ spots
Diamond in the rough. The only reason why its not michelin star is because of the Setting. Youll probably need to set a Reservation. Open at 5 PM Parking: For parking Kid-friendliness: The kids were well behaved
Wonderful Japanese restaurant. If you love sushi, you will love this place. The food is fresh and delicious. The restaurant is clean. I definitely recommend it. Our server was Mari who was a wonderful host, kind and super friendly. Well done. See you again.
Fantastic place for omakase for a decent price! Great food, excellent service
The restaurant is so small they barely have any tables and cannot give you a time estimate for the wait. And although they have a takeout menu advertised right when you walk in - we were told they couldn t even really handle any more takeout orders and couldnt clearly explain what we could or could not order for takeout. I appreciate some restaurants are small capacity, but feels like the business needs to be run better (say you re reservation only if the place is so small, give me a clear answer on if I can be seated and approximately when, don t have a takeout menu if you can barely accommodate takeout orders, give me a clear answer on what I can or cannot order if capacity is limited).
One of my favourite North York sushi joints. The VIP room is only open on weekends so you better book quickly because tables are limited. It was the first restaurant my BF took me to when we started dating and we make it a tradition to go once every fall season. The quality of the sashimi cuts are exceptional! I always take my best friends here
Great value and fresh material
the best japanese restaurant i ever have in toronto!
Tasty sushi, great selection of sake in very reasonable price and great service.
This is a great hidden gem for omakase! The prices are unbeatable especially for omakase. The staff is extremely friendly and helpful. I ordered two sets of the winter omakase both regular and with uni. They were beautifully plated and were very delicious. The main difference between the two sets is in the uni set, (bottom picture) had an extra piece of squid tucked in while the normal set (on top) only had uni. Id definitely come back and try their other items!
yo best sushi place i ve been to in awhile. no cap.
Nice.
despite the decoration is a bit old, the food is very good and taste is exactly Japanese.
Take advantage of their omakasa sushi with Japanese uni specials, very good quality
One of my favourite restaurant in the City. Their food never disappoints and their staffs always serve with 110% dedication to their customers. Highly recommend this place for anyone who is looking for an authentic Japanese restaurant.
Traditional Japanese restaurant with top quality food. Very good selection of sake
One of the more pricey japanese restaurants, but better than average quality too. You can tell that they use high quality ingredients and make everything to order.
Amazing customer service and the food is top notch and high quality
The omakase was fantastic. Staff was super friendly. A hole in the wall with a terrific sushi experience.
Best sushi we have had in a while, a more home-y experience too. Our server Mari was the sweetest and the best. I prefer this to a more stylized dining experience like Ja Bistro, for example. Definitely coming back. We got the omakase sushi set ($130 for two people) and added negitoro. Loved the fish liver. Everything was fantastic. They had a nice sake selection as well but alas we did not indulge.
The Omakase Set for two. 4 appetizers, perfected the lobster tail, small bits and fried nicely. Soup from the spout was extra refreshing with a hint of ginger. All fishes imported from Japan (except salmon) with lots of rare belly cuts. Stabdard Shiromi white fish was extraordinary for a plain fish. In house Tamago was a gem, layered nicely and sweet.
We had an amazing time! Authentic sushi! The place is intimate and small. Very romantic. Reservation is needed. The staff are so kind. A beautiful experience.
Good food fresh sushi and soba
Amazing experience eating here Im never going to look at all you can eat sushi restaurants the same again
Great omakase. The butter lobster was to die for. Appetizer was lovely as well. It s a homey unassuming spot that is really a neighborhood hidden gem.
so bad Soup taste sooo bad And so slow, it takes us two hours to wait Fish is not fresh 160 for 2 ppl, not worthy at all I m so sad
great food and service. restaurant is also very cozy, and prices are good for what you get. definitely a hidden gem in the plaza.
Food is amazing, arigato.
So good! My go to takeout restaurant for sushi! Order slightly in advance since this is a small mom and pop type shop if you re ordering a lot! Great quality fish for a amazing price!
Excellent quality! First omakase experience and it didnt disappoint. You could taste the freshness of the ingredients.
I love love love this place. We will often ask for a reso in the VIP room. The Omikase set is a MUST. Great service. I m glad we have this gem in our area.
Im gonna be honest: I only order sashimi, sushi, and handrolls here. Ive never ordered any of the appetizers or other entrees. Their sashimi quality can be erratic, but the sushi rolls (though limited) are always great. Dont you dare leave without ordering the <$4 spicy salmon and spicy tuna handrolls! theyre listed on the bulletin board with other specials. They used to play Kenny Gs sax music on loop, and that became an integral part of the atmosphere, but now theyve moved on to other musical choices.
Delicious!
This chef has been around for a long time since the prince hotel days. He really knows his stuff and provides authentic Japanese cuisine. There have been some off days, but generally really good.
I had one time experience on Aoyama sushi, the quality was very good and satisfying, the price a little bit high, the location was good, the staff was polite and friendly. Its located at Victoria park Have ( Victoria park plaza) You can find parking lot easily
This place has been my favourite Japanese spot in town since I discovered it years ago. The sashimi is always fresh and delicious and the cooked items have never let me down.
One of my favorite Japanese restaurants. Super friendly staff with decent food. Loved the king crab zosui!
One of the very best joint in Toronto for high quality sushi and sashimi. Mind you, the price is a higher than the typical sushi restaurant, but you get what you pay for. Service is gracious and efficient. They handled social distancing very well during this strange time.
I found this place completely by accident. I went to go get some KFC, and then I saw this sushi restaurant close by in the same plaza. The plaza is a bit of a dump and I thought to myself well...the sushi is probably going to suck then. I checked the reviews and couldnt believe the high ratings. I was curious at that point. When I walked in, I was greeted by a completely Japanese staff. As a sushi aficianado that was a good sign for me. The Japanese have different standards when it comes to sushi compared to their Chinese and Korean counterparts. I ordered the chef nigiri and was impressed by the portion size of the sushi. When I ate it, oh my God, it was like eating butter - incredibly soft and fresh! Its certainly one of the best sushi restaurants in the city. Im not kidding. These guys can hold their own to any joint downtown. And my reference is Zen Sushi in Markham. These guys are the real deal. I cant wait to go again.
Very fresh fish. Service was excellent.
10/10 food and service. The measures put in place for covid were good, with a giant no touch menu, masks and gloves on the staff, and a bottle of sanitizer on each table.
Highly recommended to try. Best omakase Ive had in Toronto. Cozy little spot. Bonus hello kitty decor in basement.
fresh fish , but gota eat less sea food and save the planet
Delicious and fresh sushi made from quality ingredients! I really liked it!
