Staff is rude, no apologies. It s 3:15 (11-10-24)pm when we went in but the ganoe sushi states is OPEN from outside. Staff just yelled on us by the door its closed, we are on break, I m coming to locked the door. No explanation on us. We left and will never go back in that restaurant !!!

Subsequent owners have not lived up to original Gonoe (5star)- founder provided amazing quality with value pricing and superb service (a couple of decades ago). Current food quality is good (fish is good, sushi rice is well made) but pricing is high for what you get (stingy portions of very regular fare,). Also, do not keep to posted hours, recently went in one hour before closing and was advised kitchen is closed. Further to the response of the owner - I have lived in the area since 1998. It is difficult for me to relate to you the high level of service, quality and food delivered by the original owner - you simply would not understand. There is no indication in your response that you actually understand customer service or how to deal with and service actual human beings. Again, you rice is good, fish is ok, presentation/quantity is very poor. If you are closing your kitchen early, post in on your website. I wish I could give your facility a 0 star, but to be fair, the small scrumpled sushi pieces you offer are with good rice and ok fish (the rice is just so important to sushi)

Fantastic sushi spot! The staff here are incredibly friendly and knowledgeable. They really went out of their way to make our dining experience exceptional. The sushi is incredibly fresh and flavorful. Highly recommend this place for an authentic sushi experience. And there is a big underground car park as well as ground car park.

Gonoe is a nogo. Lol They seem to be slightly confused. Wasn t sure if it was Japanese or Korean. We had the shrimp and veggie tempura. I have to guess that they are frozen because it didn t taste like real tempura batter. Which is pretty sad. The sushi was nice but the calamari and the spring rolls were definitely frozen and I wouldn t recommend them. The yaki don was too salty but the oyako don was slightly delicious. Needless to say, we won t be back. The younger server was very nice but the older lady seemed like she really didn t want to be there atmosphere is nice for a date night but maybe just stick with the sushi and the sake

Been coming here for many years now and it remains one of my favorite sushi place in this part of the city. Have tried several items and the maki rolls are def a staple while the sashimi is also quite good. Recently tried the fire roll, las Vegas roll and the gonoe rolls. The fire and las Vegas were great and the gonoe was solid as well.

The food & environment are ok but the only annoying thing is I ordered a small sushi & sashimi boat price around $60 but after we ate, the waitress charged us $90 and said that its her mistake for giving us the medium boat. She still charged us that price for her mistake. Im not coming back here anymore as its not our fault. We didnt know thats its a medium boat in the beginning! Probably you guys should confirm with the waitress for what you order before you eat, so no surprise later when you pay the bill.

The omakasei was unimpressive as a whole but i can feel their sushi is good. Meals come with salad, noodles and miso soup.

A staple in the neighbourhood and consistent in quality. The four of us shared a medium sushi and maki boat for lunch today. It was the perfect amount for four adults. As mentioned the quality of food is consistently high and the service is on point.

Miso soup was too salty. Otherwise everything else was great. We ordered shrimp and vegetable tempura, scallops on skewer and chicken yakitori. All great. Love the way you have a private section to yourself. We are not big eaters and usually order a few appetizers for lunch. Parking: No problem parking today Sunday but on weekdays at lunch time its hard to find parking and last time I couldnt find parking so left though perhaps some parking might be available on side streets

Randomly ordered some takeout form this spot. The food was surprisingly good! it is Japanese cuisine with a spicy bit of Korean touch. And the people there despite being busy were also very friendly and approachable!

Been coming here for over 16 years. It s changed owners since then. Sushi is fresh & tasty. It s busy on weekends. Take out usually takes 20-25 mins. It s a small, intimate restaurant with good service. Portions are great. Staff is friendly. Parking: Lots of parking -underground too

Located midway between York Mills and Lawrence in a relatively unassuming, small, strip mall Gonoe Sushi offers one of the better local sushi experiences with a wide range of sushi, sashimi, and maki, coupled with a large assortment of bento boxes, delicious noodle dishes and Japanese cuisine favourites. Always made fresh to order, and absolutely delicious with plenty of seating and service that is attentive and very responsive. It did take a few minutes for our food to arrive once the initial order was placed, but additional top-ups of the various rolls that we orders and such arrived right quick. The Spicy Seafood U-don, perfect! The bentos, outstanding! Sushi, amazing. One of our favourite places to eat out.

Foods very good fresh

Stopped in for a late afternoon bite and were happy with our experience! We even asked for one of the deep fried rolls to be left raw, and was pleasantly accommodated. The miso soup was delicious, and tuna rolls were fresh.

Generally ok. This last time going the rice was really hard, almost hurt my teeth. Rest of the food was good, but for a Japanese Restaurant to have hard tasteless white rice is pretty concerning for me. Parking: Always been able to park out front, but theyve got some underground parking too.

Used to be my favourite sushi restaurant to go. Apparently, there must be a change in management or chefs. The bento box and sashimi pieces are definitely a smaller serving size. And the shrimp tempura looks more like breaded. The price of meals in general is higher but it accounted for its good taste and authentic Japanese food - but not anymore. This restaurant is off my list. Good luck.

Food ok, had lunch bento boxes, some of the food wasn t warm enough. Service was a bit slow. The kicker was they tried to add 18% automatic gratuity for a group of 5 (no reservation) without giving us the heads up. There was also a separate line to add more gratuity. I like the booths with curtains. It was a bit cold. They also raised their prices. Bento boxes around $19, rolls 7 pc around $14.

A good Japanese restaurant with some Korean food options. The fish was fresh and service was efficient. Nothing out of the ordinary that wows you. A safe lunch spot with friends.

I went here for a birthday dinner for a close friend of mine and I had an amazing beef teriyaki with the mango ice cream. The food it self was amazing and the people were so friendly and welcoming. I will definitely come here again.

My favourite sushi place in Toronto it is a true hidden gem. The fish is super fresh and they have a great selection. The service is also great.

Do not Recommend! We chose this place based on the reviews but i should say very disappointed. If I could give 0 to customer service I would. It was 8 pm and the server came to tell us they close at 9 and started taking soya sauce and the flower on our table away!!! we ordered a boat of maki and sashimi. The fish was not fresh and they had put wasabi in all the sashimis. It was horrible. No one from our group was fan of wasabi so no one liked the food. It was not the best fresh sushi. The server did not care to come and ask about the food. We never be back.

My mum took me out for sushi, shed been here previously. The waitresses were sweet, service was good but could have been slightly more frequent. The place was clean, bright, well lit. The food was excellent. Ill return happily.

We were regulars here until my children were served undercooked chicken. There was clearly specks of blood on it and the taste was off. The waitresses insisted it was just a little blood from cooking and still charged me for it when we left it all. This is not the way to keep customers. We won t be back.

I was here for a family get together and was very impressed. It was not my first time here but its only gotten better. Ordered one of the boats and it was delicious. Everything we ordered showed up in a very timely manner. Tempura was great, beer was great, everything was top notch. Would recommend for sure.

The fish is not fresh at all. I came for lunch with my sister a few days ago and got food poising from the sushi I ordered. A piece of hair in my miso soup. I was throwing up constantly. I don t know how they are open, they should be shut down. Very dirty, and the food makes you literally sick after digesting it.

This place is great! So cozy and the little private booths are perfect! We were treated with some edamame on the house. Every little thing that was served was tasty. I was so full I had to take home some of my dinner and it was delicious left over the next day. I had the spicy chicken and husband had the beef teriyaki. This will make it on the list of our fav local restaurants for sure. Great service as well, friendly and polite. Always smiling! Delicious Edamame, Korean Fried Chicken, Soft Shell Crab, Beef Teriyaki. Every time we take a pic of something new weve tried. Its all awesome!!

Hands down best sushi in the area if not, in Toronto. Clean, fresh, quality and doesn t hurt your wallet too much. We have been coming here as a family since they opened!

Very bad experience. Food portions were small and sashimi not fresh. After the meal we asked if there was a cash discount and they said only for takeout. We decided to still pay cash and laid a 12% tip. Then the waitress ran over to our table demanding 18% as we.had 5 guest saying they usually charge this standard. First off they never said so in the beginning. Secondly it wasnt added to the bill, thirdly dont be running up asking for a tip and causing a scene. We gave them the 18% cash tip. But here is a tip to yall. Take your hard earned money elsewhere

Phenomenal Fantastic sushi. We got a boat with the sashimi and were not disappointed. We also got lucky and got the private room when you walk in. This added a lot to the meal By far this is the best sushi Ive had in the GTA.

This restaurant is amazing! I love the simplicity and freshness of the maki rolls, something that s hard to find in GTA. The server was so kind and attentive to our table and the atmosphere is beautiful. I love the Japanese decor and music that they played, it was a great experience and I ll surely be back.

Gonoe Sushi is another restaurant that sells sushi that will satisfy your cravings. Prices were on the more expensive side but I think the size and quality of the sushi make it reasonable. Servers were kind the only con was we had to flag the waiter down for water, rather inconvenient as it was somewhat hard to grab their attention

The food were sooo good I m not a sushi man but really enjoy them. And love the vibe here!

I have to say that the food is consistently very very good, but the service and making any type of modifications is nearly impossible even for consistent clients like myself and my coworkers. My office orders from this restaurant very frequently, and we go there in person at least once a week and for them to be so extremely difficult about any type of modifications, and outright, refusing to do so just makes for the worst type of customer service which is why my rating is just a one star! Customer service goes a very very long way in everybody s books and it cost them very minimal to make a modification and just charge you extra for that modification which I have no problem with and I vocalize when I ask for the modification.

The atmosphere of this place is nice. Cute little booths, flowers at the table. You walk in and think that youre going to have a nice, authentic experience. Unfortunately, the service is terrible. Perhaps Ive been spoiled by better places, but after sitting down for my meal alone, I had to wait 10 minutes for the server to come back. In this 10 minutes, she did not bring me any water, make any recommendations, or even engage in conversation. The only reason she came back in 10 minutes is because she caught me staring at her as she was going somewhere else...otherwise I would have had to wait longer. The salmon sushi pizza was good. Its the only reason I rated this place 2 stars. The BBQ Short Rib Roll was super rubbery. The Dynamite Explosion was neither dynamite, nor explosive. This is advertised as spicy, and as someone who is actually sensative to heat in his food, I am disappointed to say that the Dynamite Explosion had no flavour to it at all. I will not be back here.

The food here is always top notch. Sushi and sashimi are so fresh I have never had a piece of fish, that didn t melt in your mouth. Service is excellent and everyone is so friendly. Best sushi in North York by far!

Atmosphere and ambience is a lost trait in restaurants nowadays. Gonoe Sushi does a great job at creating a special environment from the moment you step through the door. Their service is quick and have a very polite approach. I didn t see any vegan options at first, but was able to pin point their Tofu Teryaki dish which came with miso soup, house salad and a side of rice. I also ordered a plate of avocado rolls. Very delicious food with great flavour. Will definitely visit again!

Been coming to Gonoe for over a decade! Love the makis, bentos, and donburis. The service is quick and the portions are generous. Come for the lunch special on weekdays and saturdays for an even better deal. Just make sure you check the opening hours to avoid coming right before or during the mid-afternoon close.

Great atmosphere, we asked to be seated outside on their patio and it was really pretty. Presentation of the food was on the fancier side, something you would get at sushi places that cost $100+ but it leaves you feeling like the quality of the fish should at least match the presentation. Staff was friendly, they offer a discount if you pay in cash.

Gonorre sushi is a wonderful wooden spot it feels like a wooden boat itself then you get to eat sushi off of wooden boats even tho thats not what we did you could it was pretty filling and tasty

Great, masterful dinner. All compliments to the chef & staff. Sushi was amazing, teriyaki beef was delicious! A variety of tempura protien & vegetables that were plentiful and ultra crispy. Soup & salad were on point. This restaurant never fails to wow you with deliciousness. Parking: Quite good.

Tasty and fresh sushi near the shops at don mills area! Came here around 1pm on a weekend for lunch and there were already other tables filled. We were greeted and provided menus immediately as well as a high chair for our toddler. Ordered the maki boat and salmon sashimi and it really hit the spot! They even gave us warm salted edamame on the house which made our day. Refilled our waters often and service is quick. Looking forward to coming here again!

Absolutely amazing! Went here on a whim and were very pleasantly surprised! It s a small restaurant with quaint seating, very nice decor. The menu is extensive! We had the spicy tuna roll, spicy California roll, spicy tempura roll and a shrimp tempura roll. Everything was absolutely delicious! Will definitely return! The service was excellent as well!

Me and my husband went to this restaurant for the first time, very clean and organized with beautiful decoration and fresh orchid flower everywhere, the food came fast and staff were friendly and pleasant.

From the outside does not look like much, but you can say that they really put in the work for attention to detail inside. I highly recommend reservations (on a Sunday evening they had to send several people back, we were lucky to arrive when we did to find a spot) and I really do recommend reserving a booth, they are really private and look awesome. The food is great, fast to arrive (given that the place was packed) and the service very friendly and attentive, I really recommend this spot for sushi lovers!

I have been going here since the summer, when I moved to the neighborhood. It has never let me down. From the apps to the dinners and maki, there are great options. The combination dinners are a sizeable feast with good protein portions that will leave you full but not bloated. Arguably, the biggest tempura I have seen in a combination dinner, anywhere. Who else gives you a mushroom, potato, sweet potato, squash, and three giant, puffy shrimps like that? Their sashimi and fish selections are fresh and vibrant. Maki sets are numerous, diverse, and quite creative. The torched dragon roll hits all the bases.

It was an impromptu decision to go into the restaurant and get food but it could possibly be my best decision yet. The food was absolutely amazing. I ordered the Shrimp Tempura and rice, Tako Yaki, and iced tea. My friend ordered the sushi and calamari and it was greattt. The restaurant is really cute and nice for taking pics. And the service was really great. The waiter (Paul) had great sense of humor and made us feel very comfortable. Over all, it was a 10/10 experience.

Long-time Gonoe orderers, but we wont be going back after a shockingly disappointing meal. Our rolls were very small in size, some kind of squished, with the thinnest layer of salmon on top; since weve ordered the same thing before, I can tell the difference in size. Ginger and wasabi were squished together. We also ordered a pricey appetizer ($20) of sliced, lightly seared beef to try out. The photo Ive attached is an accurate image of how much beef was left after we had two slices. Its in a frying pan in the photo because the beef was straight-up raw in the middle (glossy, dark red), not medium-rare, so we heated it ourselves. The item description said lightly seared, but it didnt seem safe to eat. Very disappointing - two scallop rolls and this beef were not worth the $50+ price-tag. Wont recommend. Edit in response to owner: It would have helped to see the item description for beef tataki specify/clarify that its sashimi. That aside, this doesnt explain the surprisingly small portion sizes for both the beef and the sushi ordered.

Probably some of the best sushi I have ever had in my life. A beautiful, cozy restaurant with great prices and unmatched quality. I d go back every day if I could.
