Satay on the road offers a wonderful array of Thai and Malaysian cuisine with delicious flavors that will delight and tease your taste buds. WE provide Delivery , Dine in and Take out
Full disclosure: I’m basing this review on 2 dishes only - Nasi Goreng and Mini Spring Rolls. I usually try to have a few dishes from a restaurant before reviewing but I unfortunately don't see myself getting food from Satay on the Road Ordered from here because they offered a deal on the delivery app. I wish I paid more from a different Thai place as I did not enjoy the food I got from Satay on the Road. I ordered only two items, the Nasi Goreng (Malay fried rice) and the mini spring rolls. The spring rolls were quite good… but let’s get real, it’s hard to screw up spring rolls. I found them to be crispy and the perfect snack. I also enjoyed the sauce it came with. The Nasi Goreng was a huge disappointment. There aren’t many restaurants that offer Nasi Goreng so when I saw that this place offers it, I jumped at the chance to have it. Horrible move as Nasi Goreng was lacking flavour and especially salt. This rice dish was so bland, boring snd underwhelming. There are so many Thai restaurants in Toronto. Including a few that are in the same neighbourhood as this place so it’s a shame that their food isn’t good enough to stand out. Unfortunately, I don’t have a desire to try any other food from here.
I did a take out today. I don't recommend stir fried seafood or mango chicken but Nasi Goreng and Curry Pad Thai taste good.
Consumable! Orange pad Thai... I had this same strange version in Ajax. Green curry base was good but the veg was pathetic. Skewers should be removed from menu. I got the sense it was the house special. Nope just another consumable. This is a one time place, will not try again. Needs a new chef, a smaller menu and well good food.
Went for dinner last night. Place was empty. Food wasn't too bad but lacked flavor and the peanut sauce was very odd. When we got the bill we were over charged for an extra rice. That was taken care of but then we were given 2 bills with different totals. Off by like $1.79. Very confusing bills.
I usually order from the Bayview location (highly recommend!). Ordered via skip the dishes and 1. Vegetarian oodles of noodles - I was sent just an order of plain, extremely greasy noodles. Having ordered this dish before it usually has tons of veggies (carrots, broccoli, lots of greens!) and isn’t this greasy. 2. Green curry was curdled and looked like it had been microwaved multiple times, veggies were very soggy. Took a couple bites and it was so bland! I hate to leave a bad review because I like the other location but this food was inedible. The also didn’t include any napkins or cutlery (and there is no option to add on skip)
The food was not good. Pad Thai was a big pile of mushy noodles, way overcooked. manager was good about it and offered to replace. We got the spicy noodles instead which was very oily and lacked flavour. The peanut curry was good. Service was very quick ( though the place was empty on a Saturday evening, that should have been the first red flag). Not authentic Thai and not good.
Last night we went to satay on the road for some take out, we ordered the red curry and greeen curry , and honestly it was disgusting. It was totally in edible. I could not test the curry at all, all I was tasting was cream. It tasted like it was old aswell. This was by far the worst curry I’ve ever tried. It should not be classified as curry, after just 1 bite my stomach was turning. It went straight in the trash. Before we came we called and asked if they had Malaysian food, the person who answered the phone stated they did. We drove about 30 min for this food and it was so disappointing. My husband and I love Malaysian food , but this was not it! If you want real Malaysian food don’t go here !! Horrible experience
Family Owned restaurant Authentic Thai cuisine Parking available in front of the entrance. Best soup is the coconut lemon grass Mango salad is the best Overall service is 5 ⭐️ Owners are wonderful and they treat you like a family
The food is extremely bland and oily. There is a similar, but better (more flavourful) restaurant within walking distance. Go there instead.
Yummy delicious food
Sad to see this restaurant completely run down, empty seats at lunch time, use to be busy and inviting. The pad Thai lacked flavour, mushy and super oily! Definitely not the same as a few years ago when I use to frequent this restaurant!
I love Thai food but I didn t love this.
Place is freezing inside and the food is not good. The Pad Thai is ketchuppy noodles. The Nasi Goreng is not authentic at all. Its basically egg fried rice. The prices are low but thats part of the reason why the food is so bad.
Satay on the road never disappoints, ginger chicken is a must try , the always good classic Pad Tie is an amazing. I highly recommend this wonderful neighbourhood restaurant.
Delicious dishes, hot and very filling.
Good portions great taste
I wanted to thank the gentleman I spoke to on the phone who took care of our order and addressed our gluten-free questions. He guided us to the right choices and was able to modify some of the dishes. The food was so delicious, & our guests were very appreciative. Thank you so much! We will definitely be back. Dietary restrictions: Gluten free option was important as we have family members who are celiac.
Ive been ordering from Satay On The Road for I want to say 10 years now. I have gotten most of my colleagues at my last job and new job on their pad Thai which is one of the best in the city! Always ask for a bit spicy. Not only that I have ordered their padthai for all my neighbors just to drop it off at their homes for an afternoon surprise for the family. Everything here is great and their customer service is phenomenal. I used to have a great relationship with one of the delivery guys and sadly I havent seen him in a long time. Such a nice guy and always quick as can be. Thank you guys for so many years of good food.
This is one of my favorite Thai restaurant!!! The food is all so delicious and the service is awesome!! Thank-you Michael
My first visit and I love it. The sauteed shrimp kebabs are nice. The service was great. I highly recommend it. The owners are so attentive to their clients.
Yesterday, I Ordered the eggplant snd tofu in red curry, and chicken in red curry as well as Manchurian chicken. We enjoyed them all. I repeated the tofu curry today. New go to restaurant for me. Vegetarian options: Lots of vegetarian options. For yrs I have enjoyed the eggplant and tofu red curry with string beans. I order medium spicy. Dietary restrictions: Lots of vegetarian options. They can do nut free meals.
Everything we ordered tonight was delicious. Good size spring rolls, cashew nut chicken, crispy beef, and shrimp pad thai . It was very hot. Staff very pleasant both on the phone and when we picked up our order..
Satay On The Road used to be a spot where we enjoyed going to and getting take out from but in recent time it has gone down hill. Where do I start? Take out was suppose to be picked up in 30 minutes but when we arrived and were told it would be 5-10 minutes more and then continued to be 5-10 minutes for the next half an hour. I understand restaurants can become backed up but give your clients the respect to provide a realistic timeframe. The disappointment continued with the food being bland and the noodles dishes were over cooked. Regrettably they send mix messages about what is coming with the curry dishes, all images in the menu show the curry with rice. This is missleading, you have to order the rice separately. I have never had a Thai curry not come with rice. If you dont supply something with the dish dont show images with it. Overall I am not sure I will be going back here and it looks like others agree.
Totally gross no effort into the dish.
Best Thai in Toronto!!!
Pad Thai was completely mushy with no flavour. Takeout containers leaked. The only good thing was the price of the meal.
Great Thai food. I loved it
Lovely food
Ordered Uber eats - crispy/spicy beef and rice one person special. I had fond memories of Satay growing up as a great place to eat. This food was barely edible. The beef was so tough and over cooked, it was really hard to get through. The mango salad I added was flavourless and wet. Nothing redeemable and I won t be returning.
Everything was great
Delicious food Highest quality of service Treat you like family Recommend this Thai cuisine restaurant to everyone
Who ever rated this a 5star or 10/10... most definitely shivers at the SOUND of black pepper. Bland.
We have been taking out from Satay On The Road for over 10 years. Consistently great food, our go to is the chicken and shrimp Pad Thai. NOTE: The gluten free Pad Thai with no tofu is the only Pad Thai my significant other can eat that won t effect their sensitivity to corn, wheat and soy. For those like me who don t have food sensitivities, I am a big fan of the spicy crispy beef with steamed coconut rice on the side.
Amazing food with Amazing customer service. Will come back again
I love the tofu goreng. The owner even knows my name. This is our go to place for takeout.
The foods are great, the environment is clean and tidy ,and the staffs are helpful and provide amazing service. Thank you ,Satay team!!
The experience here was very positive I had the wonton soup,Chicken fried rice ,mixed veggies dish. Quite tasty and large portions. Quite satisfied enough for lunch the left day.the service was great definitely I will be back.
The Pad Thai was good.
We ordered the Chicken Satay, Beef Satay, Nasi Goreng, and Mee Goreng. We have had these dishes before in Thailand, Malaysia, and Singapore. These dishes have distinct flavor profiles. What this restaurant served tasted nothing like what these dishes ought to have tasted like. All tasted intolerably bland, and its more disappointing that they all tasted the same. It tasted like the same sauce was used for all of them. Very disappointing (quite honestly, infuriating) because we drove through bad traffic to this restaurant because they had these on the menu and trusted the 4.1 Google rating. We didnt eat much and decided to take the food home so we can put these back in the pan and add the ingredients to get these to taste like the actual dish. We checked the reviews, and interestingly saw reviews with similar comments. Wish we read the reviews first.
The best Thai restaurant in Toronto
Clean. Food is ok.
Best food I can get right now really good
The coconut chicken soup was delicious! However the Pad Thai was dry, not enough sauce to noodle ratio.
3.5 / 5 ... ordered Basil Beef with Bamboo and Curry Ayam for pick-up. Some of the potatoes in the curry were under-cooked; the basil beef did not have much basil and seemed to be missing some flavour; and it did not come with rice (which is OK, but it would have been nice if they asked me if I wanted rice with my order). So I cooked some rice when we got home. Very kind, nice staff.
Ordered Pad Thai and crispy beef. The pad Thai was very dry and noodles sticking together.
Wonderful Worth every penny
The food was usually very good but sometimes it is spotty. One time the pad Thai is very saucy and the other time it is dry. Other then that the prices are pretty good and most of the time the food is great.
Food isnt bad but FAR from authentic. Even thai express tastes more authentic. Everything was very bland.
Food was delicious and prepared quickly
Just ordered by phone for take out lunch, Apr. 13/21. Still the same delicious flavours of food with affordable price. Thank you for great service.
This place was fantastic. I cant understand why we were the only two people in there at 630. The waiter recommended the dinner for two and portions were huge and delicious.
I have been to this restaurant for more than 10 times and the food has never failed my expectations. Will keep coming back for more!!
Eggplant Siam Style was delicious!
Watered down drinks room temperature beer! Inexperienced waitress training on New years Eve. Good value food was just average.
Food was good. Big portion. I had fried noodles with beef and bean sprouts. Only thing is my stomach didnt feel so good later if you know what I mean, and that tells me that something isnt fresh or clean in the kitchen because one shouldnt get sick after eating at a restaurant. This was the 2nd time this happened to me after eating there.
Great veggie spring rolls, nasi gorem, and green curry.
Dont come here. Worst experience and food is horrible. Ordered Pad Thai and Spicy Basil Noodles. Noodles came out still raw and uncooked, Pad thai was mushy and tasted like ketchup sauce. The server kept checking if things were okay but I was trying to be nice and not cause an issue since I know chefs may have an off day. End of the meal we asked for containers to go, and asked for the bill. I nicely gave feedback about the food and the servers took the food back to the kitchen. I was prepared to pay for the meal when the lady who looked like a manager brought the food back and started lecturing me about how I should have told them in the beginning for them to fix. I told them things are okay, just tell the chef to be careful next time. But she kept insisting I should have told them in the first place. Now I was annoyed and I just wanted to go - Just needed to pack the food. The server comes back with 2 dirty containers that looked like it was used for someone else s food. Unbelievable! By this time I didn t want the food anymore and just wanted to pay. I told the manager lady what happened regarding the dirty containers and she took the server to the back and yelled at her - I could hear it. Cherry on top: Manager still charged me full price for the food. Never coming again.
One of the best Thai food in Toronto. Had the red curry with chicken , Thai spicy noodle, calamari, and black pepper beef. It was all very delicious and on top of that the service was spectacular. Highly recommend.
Good amount of food for the price, however on my second visit the rice was stale. Hard and unpalatable. My first visit was much better
Great service, great food. Been going there for over 20 years and never disappointed.
Best Pad Thai in Toronto! Although everything on the menu is great, you cant go wrong!
Terrible service, terrible delivery. I ordered noodle combos for 3 servings via Skip the Dishes. I was so upset as they forgot to include soup for all 3 of us. Also, when I ordered the other day I ordered they spilled half of the soup. Ill never use this restaurant again.
The food is sooo good. It s authentic and very flavourful . I ve been coming here for about 5 years now and it has always been my fave takeout place. The service here makes the food extra delicious
Tonight we wanted to support a local business and were in the mood for Thai food, saw that this place had pretty decent reviews. We ordered the Chicken Pad Thai and the Cashew Chicken and I m sorry but both were very bland. There is no flavour. Also was disappointed that the Pad Thai didn t come with any coriander/cilantro like it usually does. Thai express would ve been better. Staff were friendly, no complaints there but the food will not make me return.
We ordered several dishes to be delivered, and it was so delicious that we HAD to write a review. Everything was exceptional, even being delivered to my door versus in the restaurant. If you re looking for a fancy date night in, order here!
im in love with the chefs special thia toast. that is the reason im giving 4/5 stars, it is simply worth the order alone. I ordered the hot and sour soup which i needed to add my own vinager to in order to make it ok. also ordered the crispy beef which was generously plowed on with a lot of beef, but it was tough, and not crispy but it may be because of deliver service? not sure ....flavour was there, crispy tender was not. I also ordered the mango rice dersert......dont. that is all :)
Satay on the Road is my local Thai restaurant...how lucky am I!!??? I would travel far for their Oodles of Noodles dish!!! Or the coconut, lemongrass soup! Mmmm... The service is excellent and the food is delicious!! Highly recommend!!!
Service was amazing, good was also great
Good green curry, great spring rolls and pineapple fried rice, good service, large portions, clean, reasonable prices.
I had to write a review. I went out for lunch and it was so tasty here. The red curry was rich and just yummy. I tried lemon grass fried rice and was a fried rice with a kick of threlemon grass and we really enjoyed it and ate with the red curry together. I would come back forsure!! I also dont meat and another tables chicken satay look so good lol Also only downfall the patio chairs are uncomfy!
The most friendly staff ! They have gone up and beyond and have amazing hospitality. Grateful to live so close so I can always enjoy a meal here. My family and I have come here for many years and have never felt dissatisfaction. Always a joy going in to pick up my usual. Great customer service
Their take out taste as good as in dine in. I highly recommend their shrimp rolls and chilli fish along with thai spicy noodles. These are my must have orders. Their food quality, quantity and taste are consistent.
Tasty Thai food
The best.
Food was undoubtly delicious....the lady staff was awesome....god knows how we landed at your place.....we were damn hungry and it was freezing cold. We were tremendously happy and enjoyed every bite of the delicious food in All u can it buffet for $15 per head.....but your policy of paying extra for the food we were unable to finish and take it as to go burnt a big hole in our pocket. That seems unfair........when a customer orders a main course they are unaware of the quantity. After the appetizers are done the main course quantity comes as a sudden surprise...and if we are not wasting it but taking it home does not specify as food wastage.....Some what felt cheated on paying a bill of $44 for 2. But thanks anyway....we will never turn up again...but food was good.
Delicious food....
I went to the Avenue Road location with my sister early on a Saturday evening. The restaurant wasnt busy. The atmosphere was very nice - not too noisy and very clean. There are lots of booths (which I prefer). We ordered the mango salad and spring rolls to start. The mango salad was amazing - fresh, sweet and delicious. The spring rolls were hot and crispy. We shared shrimp pad thai, tofu in black bean sauce and rice. All of the food tasted fresh and arrived at our table hot. The Pad Thai was good - much like other Pad Thai Ive had. The tofu/veggies in black bean sauce was excellent. Servers were attentive and fast. There was so much food that we both took home a full takeout container. We were in and out in 1 hour. Would definitely go here again mainly for how fresh the food tasted.
Excellent service. We had one appetizer, Thai spring rolls. They were hot, with minced chicken and other stuffing. They were very good. The hot and sour soup was a disappointment; we would pass on it in the future. Crispy beef with peppers was excellent, pleasant sauce and the basil chicken contained large chunks of chicken. Both of these dishes were very good and were large servings.
Excellent meals,... we didnt enjoy our dessert and mentioned it to the server... She was shocked and investigated. The manager agreed that there was a problem with the dessert and he came out to apologise and offer a free dessert and to remove the charge for the first dessert, even though we had already choked it down... That was refreshing that they took responsibility for the error. We enjoyed the rest of the good very much and plan to go back.
Overall good restaurant
Amazing spring rolls i have ever had in Toronto!! Gluten free options available also they dont mind modifying food for you as per your dietary restrictions. The staff is amazing friendly and considerate. Must try: Cashew chicken Pad thai (try with curry) Chef special Soup of the day, fresh and delicious 8 visits in last month, going back again!!
Good food- great lunch specials. Friendly staff
The waitress are so friendly and kind. The food was excellent as well. Thai lemon soup and noodles were my favourites. Will definitely come again. Love this place
SO DELICIOUS! super friendly staff. I love the Crispy Beef and Curry Pad Thai.
Amazing food. Friendly staff. Can t believe Thai food taste can be so good and tasty. Totally changed my mind for Thai food. Love it. Would like to come again. Cheers
Reasonably priced, tasty Thai food attractively presented. Generous portions too. Restaurant is clean, service prompt and friendly. The only downside is finding a parking spot on Avenue Rd. or neighbouring side streets.
decent food, never busy
Service and food were excellent !
Great services!!
Satay on the road is a very pleasant restaurant. The food was very good and the service was prompt.
This place has became my sons favourite go-to place for his coconut soup and mango salad (highly recommended). The staff is very friendly and the atmosphere is very nice. Recommended.
Tasty!
Great food, good portion size and good service. Try the skewers!
Bland. Good service but bland food.
The food and the service are always amazing here! They did a perfect job hosting my surprise birthday party. I left glowing :) thanks for everything, Satay team!!
Amazingly fast service! They were so helpful in setting up my girlfriends surprise birthday party! Incredible hosts, will come back for sure! Awesome job, Satay Team!
Awesome as usual
We stumbled upon Satay on the Road on the way home from a day of shopping. What a happy bit of luck! This restaurant on the East side of Avenue Road is clean, medium size beautifully designed and maintains a lovely warmly lit ambiance. Choice of tables or banquettes. Best.. The food is very fresh with an aesthetically pleasing presentation and simply delicious. It is not dried out as we have experienced at a couple of other Thai restaurants. Satay is very professional and food quality is at the best level of Thai food we have had.
Must say that this is by far one of the best thai food i tasted. I ordered multiple things red curry, roti with ayam curry, golden basket etc. Everything was delicious. Not just the food, the way i was treated when i called them for questions and they ensured all my instructions were followed to perfection, was all amazing. Talking about packaging, they ensure moist filling were packed separately so crispy baskets retain their ultimate crispyness. everything perfect is rare these days especially when you order online. This place has impressed me to the core. special mention to the lady i spoke with on the phone made my day, so positive and informed. thank you for making it the best lunch and pepping up my day. I didn t do justice to the pics, but the food is worth it, MUST TRY !!!
Friendly Service. Tasty Food. Good value/pricing.
Highly recommend it!
Great food and great value
First time there, very delicious food and the deep souse was amazing, and service was good. I will definitely go back with friends :)
Expensive dishes and small quantities. Limited choice. Decent taste.
Ive been going here with my family for years. While they have had their ups and downs, last night dinner was great! So many great dishes for vegetarians and meat eaters.
Spicy green curry chicken. Yummy as usual.
Food had no taste or flavor. I was disappointed as it had been good another time I was there. Not sure Ill come back again.
I enjoy almost everything I have tried there...if you like Thai, and youre in Leaside or around Avenue Road, I would encourage you to check them out!
Always great!
Taste is good and price is reasonable. Definitely worth a visit with Groupon. They dont have parking, so be prepared to find one on the street and pay for it.
This was a good restaurant. Its changed hands and is not as good quality has plummeted. Still good food and reasonably priced. Service is good. Decor not well appointed.
Mediocre at best
Not sure if new owner or chef but Phad Thai was horrible. Did not each dish and was charged for it. Complained to owner and would only give 15% off that dish. Not the way to treat customers. Will never return
Excellent food.... lunch or dinner. Casual.... friendly service.... best value around!
Ordered via Foodora. I get that presentation for takeaway gets thrown out of the window. The food itself was so bland two people couldnt even eat half of the food...Im confused by the reviews and photos Ive seen online.
Order sometimes are made wrong. Nevertheless you cannot go wrong at this place. Decent quick eat Thai Asian fusion place.
5.99 special menu for lunch was a bit deceiving.....its 5.99 per item even for the tea. Food was ok but probably would not go back.
Delicious Thai with friendly service, good value especially the lunch specials.
Mediocre Thai food. Decent service
Curry Laksa was good
Food is OK. Went there only because I bought the Groupon. Without the Groupon, I consider this place is expensive, not worth the money.
I went to this restaurant through Groupon. It was mentioned on the Groupon that you can order anything from the regular menu but that wasnt the case. They had a special menu for Groupon with very little choice. The food was pretty average!
Soggy Padthai
In was using Groupon, but was not impressed with the service and the food... If you have Groupon probably worth it to try.
Good is great Service is excellent
Very good food and friendly staff
Better than average thai food at the usual price
Very good food. Nice quiet setting for lunch
Food is not particularly authentic and hit and miss
Thai style eggplant and the red beef curry combo was really good!
A lot of good dishes, both meat and veggie. Desserts are a little lacking though
Large portions, great service and good food. I will definitely will be back!
3.5 actually, I visited them twice and both experiences are a contrast of each other. The consistent things were friendly service, large portions & best hot sauce! Green curry was too salty for me, they could not fix it when I complained, they just added some coconut milk or water I guess. Their Hot and Sour soup at the first visit was just so perfect and in second visit it was too sour. Spring rolls were amazing every time. Pad Thai, that I had for the first visit was really good. I might visit them again, hoping for a good experience, I really loved them initially.
Food is very good...staff is very friendly
If youre the kind of person that thinks chicken balls and fortune cookies are a good and delicious example of authentic Chinese food then you would not be disappointed with the quality of Thai food being served here. Ordered Pad Thai and spring rolls. The pad Thai should actually be renamed as spaghetti with ketchup on their menu. As for the spring rolls Ive had better coming out of a box in the frozen food aisle at the grocery store. Quite possibly the worst Thai food I had in Toronto. I couldnt eat more than a few bites (and Im not one to waste food).
Excellent service, nice atmosphere and friendly staff. The food is excellent and the menu is huge! Lots to choose from. The Green Chicken Curry is delicious and is a must-try item, as well as the shrimp, chicken and beef Satay skewers. We have been there many times, never disappointed and everything we have ever ordered has always been great! The dishes are never over-powered with one particular ingredient and are just perfect. I am proud to bring friends and family there to introduce them to a great restaurant!
Awesome dishes ...a place where your tastebuds will do back flips and cartwheels.
Not very good food
Love this place. Great friendly service and food is fresh and tasty
Spent 90$ and threw it all in the garbage except the curry. DO NOT ORDER HERE UNLESS YOU WANT TO GET SICK.
The food is really delicious! Best place to enjoy a quiet and soothing ambiance! Loved it
Wonderful service and great food and very generous portions! Highly recommend
Fast, friendly, cheap, and delicious.
Have been coming to this place for years, seem to be a change in management. Food is great , they have added a new menu called Pan Asian Cuisine the black pepper beef and the bacon shrimp taste awesome, the service has change and are very friendly staff , And for the take-out & delivery lovers, there is free stuff for everyone , definitely will be calling the next time for delivery
We ordered the satay skewers, hot and sour soup, cashew chicken, and crispy beef. They were all tasty and flavourful. Very friendly staff and nice atmosphere. Definitely recommend.
Disappointing ! 1. The chicken satay, was uncooked. When explained to the lady at the cash register, she said nothing about it 2. Explained to her that the Pho Piah, is Nothing like the Malaysian Pho Piah. She said, its made to Canadian stadards, It was not even 10% similar to what done in Malaysia. 3. Nasi Goreng, was also poor quality with small shrimps. Very Disappointing, if you go there expecting anything Malaysian. !!! Poor Customer Service, Poor Communication, Lack of Empathy, Overall bad.
Good satay
