We had a very nice stay, everything was perfect,

Very nice place, very good food and all the staff are very courteous. Room 310 could have a Queen bed instead of King for ease of movement. The wardrobe door could be removed. Too bad the pool was not heated (defective)

A very well located hostel, but a little tired. Dusty and general maintenance that leaves something to be desired. Very busy and too densely populated for my liking. In general, good service at reception and in the restaurant. A little disappointed for the price. Rooms: Quite comfortable motel style room. Not small, but not very big either. Slightly outdated decoration (90s). Our bathroom fan was making a hell of a racket. Food and drinks: Good family style food, but nothing more. The dining room is a large glass veranda with a view of the river.

During our stay at the hostel on September 7, 2024, we noticed that unfortunately the hotel is quite dated. The spas were not really functional and not very clean and the hammam downstairs, the door is defective so not inviting to go there. The rooms are outdated and dusty. The dressing gown included in our room is torn, which is unusual for a hostel like this. The food is still good and the breakfast is standard but ok. We had 2 glasses of wine and 1/2 portion of natchose and it cost $56, its expensive for nothing. The inn would benefit if it were refreshed during the months when it closes in order to offer an adequate service offering in line with the costs applied. It is dearly paid compared to other hotels elsewhere.

Unfortunately a little over-rated compared to the price of the stay. During a stay on the first opening weekend of the 2024 season, they clearly did not seem ready to receive their customers. Pool not available, spa not cleaned, 2nd spa broken, outdoor furniture missing, coffee machine faulty, lack of food at lunch. The room in the contemporary renovated pavilion is quickly said. Possibly renovated in 1994 yes but nothing since. However, the food and service at the restaurant are impeccable. The therapists are attentive and competent, however the equipment and facilities are sometimes faulty.

Dream place, enchanting panorama, impeccable service. Excellent food and still affordable for the exceptional quality. I didnt stay in a room though, I only had dinner in the glass roof. I will definitely return for a longer stay.

3rd stay at the inn. This year, I noticed some shortcomings in the room service; the floor covering was dirty and there was no hand soap in the bathroom. I also noted that some of the staff in the dining room seemed be at their first steps, because slow service and little interaction with customers. That said, the composition of the menu remains interesting and the cuisine delicious.

We had a very nice stay. The care and service are impeccable!

We had booked a resort stay at the Auberge du Portage in a SUPERIOR room. The advertisement boasted an elegant, comfortable and spacious room with a view of the river and a private balcony. Last July 11, when we arrived in the room (#111), what was our astonishment to find that the room was far from being spacious, we had to be careful not to hang on the furniture while going around the bed . The view of the river was restricted to the toilet window (this is no joke, at least not on my part!) and a tiny corner of the river bank through the private balcony door. The advertised balcony was nothing more than a narrow passage with two chairs that were almost impossible to get around because it was so restricted. The two chairs were nauseatingly unclean: the filthy arms and legs and the cushions which had been dragged outside in the rain were soaked with water and very dirty. The exterior floor and wall were also very dirty. See the attached photos to believe it... While expressing my astonishment to a first receptionist, I was told: I dont have any more rooms... what do you want me to do, Im not building any rooms!!! . WOW, that s great service at reception. A few minutes later, we mentioned our disappointment to a second receptionist. His response: WITH AN ANGRY LOOK LIKE THAT, YOU SHOULD CANCEL EVERYTHING !!! WOW again! Its getting worse and worse. To insinuate that his client had an enraged look when showing them the door is a feat of bad service, but I had no medal to give him. I just mentioned to him that he has no talent for customer service (I could have added that he is rather good at customer abuse). Obviously, I was quick to accept his great offer to cancel everything but, suddenly, it was no longer possible!!! Our deposit was held hostage to protect against their misleading advertising and they even threatened to impose additional penalties. The next day, after a few hours of walking in the beautiful village of Notre-Dame-du-Portage to soothe our aches and pains from an uncomfortable bed and a service that makes no sense, we decided to leave in cutting short this stay which had lasted too long. I settled the bill with the room construction specialist who suddenly was less talkative... For many years of frequenting several other welcoming hostels in Quebec, I told myself when leaving that we had to return to these charming and respectful places. But this time, on the contrary, we LEFT THE AUBERGE DU PORTAGE WITH RELIEF. There are far too many other inns in Quebec that respect their customers to waste our precious vacation time and our money at this Auberge du Portage...

The review concerns the restaurant as we did not stay at the hostel! That said, from the looks of it in the lobby and from the outside the hostel still seems charming! That said, I wouldnt recommend the restaurant at all! Lets start with what would be the strong point to be fair: the wine list offers a nice variety and connoisseurs will still be able to find interesting appellations! Things are going bad when it comes to food. Oddly, the problem isnt that it lacks flavor... its that everything is TOO much and unbalanced, but then completely! Thyme potatoes taste more like thyme than if you directly ingested the thyme itself! The duck breast is very well cooked, its sad to eat. We charge you an extra $25 for the beef tartare starter and frankly the flavors are so powerful that it could be anything but beef that you wouldnt know it. Each dish tastes one flavor but total power. However, I am someone who loves to eat very tasty foods, but I myself found it almost offensive. We will sell you the Sweetbreads as the chefs great specialty, ultimately it is served in a very commercial sweet BBQ style sauce and the taste is not refined. The service is not bad, it is relatively expeditious, but still remains courteous. It would be mean to say that it is a disaster. However, I wouldnt recommend it at all.

We had booked a date for our wedding reception. Several conclusive planning discussions were made with the manager before she validated with the director of the establishment that everything was possible (we were unaware that these steps had not been taken prior to the acceptance of our request) . The establishment via the director withdrew and the latter never returned our calls or emails. Customer service with several shortcomings and I do not recommend for events or group receptions. Very disappointing.

I am very disappointed with my stay, the service was lousy, we waited a very long time before having our meals, and in the morning for lunch the food baskets as well as the dishes were empty, we had to wait and wait but, seeing that he was not coming, we asked to fill them....broken spa...pool taking people out to clean...lack of toilet paper, one roll for three people for three days.. . the treatments shortened by at least ten minutes each and here we roll...Saturday evening dinner, very fine little lady but! she serves a lot of customers but forgets us and we have to ask again... and that made a big deal because Ive been going there for at least 30 times and as many years and it was a place that I really liked ... Sunday morning 7:30 a.m. we were at lunch to have food, and to finish the story dinner... well it was the same... he writes that dinner will be served at 11 a.m., thats too easy , well no they changed that for noon, but in the regulations its 11 a.m., you just had to guess, dont be discouraged because the lunch meal well people come in, but the first will be the last yes and the kitchen only opened at noon but there was a group of 30 people they served before us then!!!!!!!!!

The Inn is located on the banks of the river. Choose your dinner time wisely and you will be treated to a magnificent sunset while you eat. Lunches and dinners are excellent and generous. It is now possible to reserve dinner online instead of going in person. All employees are professional and provide very good service. In short, normally, it is a place that inspires relaxation and well-being. But... We stayed in one of the Pavillon Les Berges Supérieur rooms since I had only heard good things. When leaving the room for our treatments, I turn on the air conditioning because the room is too hot for us. We return, the room warmer than when we left and we discover that the air conditioning does not work. The employee who was at reception comes to see, offers us a fan for the night and says that she is requesting that someone come and take care of the air conditioning. Even with the fan, its 27 in the room (our stay was at the end of October). In the end, the air conditioning never worked and I dont think anyone came to take care of it. The room, although Superior Pavilion, is ugly and needs love. The small step between the living room and bedroom sections is about to fall. Same thing for the shelf under the bathroom mirror. The television is behind the couch and is only visible from the bed if you sit on the edge. Its noisy since the bedroom is under the dining room. Since there is the terrace between the room and the water, the room does not have a direct view of the outside. The glass doors let everyone see into the room, so we keep the curtain closed, so we cant see outside and its dark. Every day, on the terrace in front of our door, we found a pocket which probably contained bedding to be washed. Sometimes we also found a large black garbage bag there. Eventually someone comes to pick them up, but its far from the same terrace as shown on the hostel website. I remember one stay where the lunch buffet seemed huge with several options. The buffet was a bit disappointing and the eggs coming from the kitchen looked like they had spent a lot of time under a heat lamp. One evening after dinner, we went to relax in front of the fireplace. A woman who seemed very intoxicated decided that it was a perfect time to play the piano. She asks everyone who passes by her what song she can play. She plays badly, she plays for a long time and speaks very loudly. No one came to ask her to be a little quieter, which really surprised me since I was already warned, during my first or second stay, to speak less loudly even though I spoke normally. An employee also asked another person to stop laughing. The bathrobes you have to wear are one size, but one size fits all rarely fits everyone. We tried several times to get a larger bathrobe. We were told to come back the next morning, and then in the afternoon, and again the next morning, but in the end we never managed to get it. If larger bathrobes are in such high demand, there should be more of them. This wasnt my first stay, so I know my last experience isnt the norm. However, it was the first time for my partner who prefers not to go back.

The place has a rustic charm, without being outdated. The seafood dishes are absolutely delectable, and very reasonably priced. The vegan option for dessert was exquisite. Enjoying the spa and swimming pool by the river is a must.

I paid $430 for a package including 1 night, 3 meals, access to the site. We were accommodated in a room under the dining room. Lots of noise until late at night, lots of noise early in the morning. Impossible to sleep. It was very cold in the room which had clearly not been renovated for a long time. Clean, but mold on the bottom of the shower. The latest technology was a superb CD player. This room had a view of the river according to the advertisement, in reality, you had to go out into the corridor to see the river. Access to the site is a single spa, a very small swimming pool, really far from a thermal experience. The sauna and Hammam were scattered throughout the building, difficult to find. We both had a massage which turned out to be a flattering...disappointing and not included in the price. I must say that the meals were delicious. The service was very good. The tip was not included in the package, you had to pay extra. It was not worth the $430 paid. We will not return there.

We had a pleasant stay. Impeccable meals and care. However, upon arrival we found that chalet 663 had not been cleaned as it should have been. The dishes, especially the glasses, were in a pitiful state. Fortunately we had disposable tableware that we had brought because for lunch we had a picnic. We will still book next year, hoping that everything will go back to normal.

We are happy to have discovered a magnificent corner of Quebec and an interesting inn. However, you must adjust your expectations because there are weak points: The restaurant is good, but part of the menu offered at lunchtime is taken back in the evening. We would have appreciated more variety, especially when it comes to soups and soups. The bread that will be served to you is bread wrapped in individual plastic, the same as served on air deck. The room on the so-called contemporary pavilion side (fancy word for old-fashioned, but well maintained) is very small but adequately equipped for one night. Mattress sprints were stiff. We also took advantage of the massage and wrap treatments, the staff seemed uncomfortable as if we were disturbing them... We received our services separately in 2 pavilions and had the same uncomfortable vibe on both sides. The steam room was not working, and the employees were not able to help us with this. That being said, we had a pleasant stay in an enchanting setting. The facilities of swimming pools, spas, self-service bicycles are great, and the view from the restaurant is breathtaking.

Delight and Disappointment... During a recent getaway, we stayed at the Auberge du Portage. What a joy to discover this inn on the riverside, offering magnificent views and beautiful outdoor facilities. On arrival we were offered the choice between a room in the hostel (old and small), or, for a small extra charge, a large renovated room in a lodge. Obviously, we chose the 2nd option and were very satisfied with it. So much for the flowers...; the pot now, unfortunately returns to the restaurant. What a desappointment. We felt like we were at a wedding where the dishes, which at first glance seem interesting when reading the menu, give the impression of being prepared in advance and left on the stove (or too long in the fridge)! For my part, my meal was OK, nothing more. It was the dessert that blew me away. Since there were only 2 choices left at the table dhôte, I opted for the strawberry tartlet. What was my surprise to discover that it was actually a strawberry tartlet! And yes, on top of an overcooked crust filled with a cream filling, was ONE sliced strawberry ; no but, is it a joke??? We who had the pleasure of tasting the fine cuisine of the Auberge Mange frog the day before, I can tell you that we are not at all in the same category. Very disappointed with this restaurant. Damage...

Once again, this hostel outdoes itself! I have visited a few, but this one stands out from the others in every way, massage therapy with Christine, sea salt exfoliation with Linda, the smiles of the people at reception, the waiters, everything was perfect! The meals, EXTRAORDINARY! We were a group of 6 girls, 3 rooms, distancing respected both outside and inside. The menus were varied and plentiful! We knew the father, the mother DeFoy and the son who took over walks in the same footsteps as his parents. Well done to you all!

What a magnificent place with a splendid view of the river! Warm welcome, delicious food!!! Absolutely worth seeing and experiencing

Very good service, courteous staff, excellent slow meal.

I spoke with the owner because I am disabled and his rooms are not at all suitable, he told me that he has to do renovations during the winter so I cant wait to see if he will keep his promises or else he will be like politicians. Im not asking for the moon just a legal shower from the floor and not in the bath. More and more baby boomers are traveling and so are the population, so lets be people with reduced mobility.

Cela fait plus de 25 ans que je vais à lAuberge. Nous partons de Montréal je ne serais que pour un séjour de 2 nuit. On adore ! Les soins sont des plus professionnels, la nourriture à tomber des pommes, le personnel agréable et le site enchanteur au bord du fleuve! Je ne conseil pas pour la famille. Les adultes veulent un lieu de repos et de tranquillité.

Relaxation, gastronomy, everything is there!
