Taking advantage of people on a tax holiday by increasing your menu prices. How shady can you be

I was going to go but compared the prices on Friday vs today after the GST tax break went into effect. They increased their menu by $2. Very slimy behaviour. I decided not to come because of this

Scumbags decided to raise their prices during the holiday tax break to gouge their patrons, and hoped no one would notice. There are plenty of honest family restaurants that care about their customers to try instead.

I went for breakfast the other day and our food was fairly basic and tasteless. Not even adding salt and pepper helped much. It makes sense given the majority of customers are geriatric. I wouldn t spend my own money here again.

I was going to post a review but my 11 year old niece said it all. The food was cold, she got a bone in her chicken wrap and the owner was rude to us. She also saidsince when dont eggs retain heat? Referring to them sitting under their heat lights.

El Spero is a good family restaurant, been going there for years, I do get breakfast every time, so this review is only based on breakfast. The breakfast itself has improved over the years, a few homefries out of every batch used to be undercooked back in the day but now they are more much more consistent. The pancakes, eggs, and toast are usually consistent and great. The bacon is 90% good, sometimes undercooked. The service is usually welcoming, and because it is a family restaurant the community wants to see it succeed. A major area for improvement and something the owners need to work on is the hot chocolate, the price increases every year and the quantity decreases, the last time I went there (today) even the whipped cream didnt reach the top of the cup it was basically a half cup. If someones getting a half cup, they should pay half price. Soon it will be $7 and quarter cup at this rate so I felt that I needed to mention here, hopefully someone will see it, maybe no one will, who knows. At the end of the day Im rooting for this restaurant, theyve been an Oakville staple for me for a while and I think theyll be around for a long time to come if they keep improving things.

Perfect pancakes! With 100% pure maple syrup. Dont change a thing!

Lets start with the positives... great looking space, excellent staff, lots of parking, comprehensive menu, comfortable seating and speedy service. The only thing that didnt work here was the food, and Im willing to say that this could be my fault. My fault for ordering liver and onions. There were a few concerns the liver was dry and overcooked, the gravy was thick, luke warm and served as a side, and the mashed potatoes were dull and not hot. I WILL visit again to try something else. Everybody else seemed to be enjoying their meals, so I suspect that I simply chose poorly. Cant say enough good things about the staff though.

Best breakfast or brunch restaurant in Oakville! Always excellent service and delicious food. Personable staff. Also, great for dinner or lunch! Parking: Parking is free, but only for use of businesses at the parking lot. If you leave lot for a walk, you will be towed away 100% of time.

Lovely location close to lake.

This resurant is amazing. The staff is so friendly and happy everytime we are there. Vegetarian options: Not a lot of vegetarian/vegan options. Mostly all breakfast foods are something with eggs and meat. But the restaurant is still worth a visit, just look over the menu online before going to make sure theres something you will like!

Great food - huge portions!

Parking lot towing scam!. After my meal at El Spero and a 5 minute walk next door for an ice cream, my car was gone! The towing services for the parking lot will only reduce your $250 towing fee (above the Oakville bylaw max fee) if you show them a receipt proving you were in fact a customer. However they state that their cameras captured that you left the property and thus you broke the rules despite being an active customer during the time of your car removal. Good luck with your restaurant, but I will never again contribute a dime to this establishment, and given this terrible experience, I will in fact, personally pay my friends who live in the area to avoid the place. The more research I have done shows that this event frequently happens to many seniors in the area. It feels very violating to have this blatant ripoff occur when you are simply trying to take your family out for brunch. Just google the stories about the predatory towing services in the area and you will quickly see numerous other complaints regarding similar outcomes. I am happy to support entities that will support me back, however the restaurant did nothing to help fix this ridiculous outcome. Take this as a warning but in my opinion it is certainly not worth the hassle if they can take your car even if you prove you were a customer! It is also important to note that the parking lot was at least half empty at the time, which highlights the fact that this is a deliberate and targeted scam - where your car is taken within minutes! Shame on you vultures! Good luck El Spero owners, I think you will need it in the future as more people become aware of this news. Nevertheless, after searching online, I know that I am not the only victim. In fact, how many restaurants do you know that actually have a towed review category?! Wow, clearly, this happens often, so be careful if you drive to this restaurant

Dirty place and very slow service

Im just so heartbroken with my last visit to El Spero. Ive been going to this restaurant since the time it was located at Hopedale Mall. They were the only place I knew that did schnitzel with sauerkraut! I absolutely followed them to Lakeshore! It was so great, even if I was in the area, they would make me a schnitzel/sauerkraut sandwich, when I called ahead! Then one day I called for the sandwich and got just the schnitzel. While it was tasty, there was no sauerkraut, so it leaned toward a bit dry. I was really disappointed. The other day I was absolutely craving the schnitzel and sauerkraut, so I drove from St. Catharines all the way down to Oakville, just for that meal. I cant explain how horribly disappointed I was to find out that they stopped making the sauerkraut. The schnitzel itself was different also. It was under salted, but it just didnt taste fresh anymore, like it used to. I sat there thinking, oh no, theyve gone fast foods on us! Im was so very disappointed. This was the only real, home cooking restaurant that I enjoyed enough to visit whenever I was passing through, and even an hours drive away. No idea what happened there or why, but unless something drastic changes, doubt Ill be going back any time soon.

The food is delicious and the portions are generous. Eating at El Spero feels like eating a meal made at home. The menu is large and has a lot of different options. The hostess Victoria was extremely friendly and our server Evan was professional and attentive.

The fish and fries were good the tar tar sauce on the other hand it tasted a bit off when i finished it I thought tar tar sauce was supposed to be white I m not mad and it was my boyfriends birthday party so I did not want to say anything there please get back to me

We always go there for a family meet up

This was one of my grandparents favourite places to go. They servers take the time to actually get to know their customers which is extremely heartwarming. The food is also excellent! Couldn t ask for a better experience.

We used to be regulars at El Spero when it was in Hopedale mall but visited this location for the first time. Our favourite there used to be the breakfast. We had breakfast here as well and it was good.

I don t think anyone is happy here? Not a smile upon entry. Service was menh $90.00 for a breakfast for 4 it was an ok breakfast, but I ve had the same quality at Denny s shout out to Denny s. Won t be back.

Got my car towed from the parking lot cause I went for a walk after brunch. What a joke. Will never return here. My $30 brunch ended up costing me over $200. Scammers

One of my favourite places to visit when I travel back home. Ive been coming to El Spero for the better part of 40-years now, and the new location in Bronte is fantastic (where Licks used to be). Outstanding service, delicious food made with fresh ingredients, and a family-owned business atmosphere. Congrats on your 50-year anniversary and well see you again soon!

We have only been ordering via Skip for a couple of months. The food here is really really good ! Tonight my wife tried some souvlaki. And I had yet again the hot beef sandwich. OMG That souvlaki & Greek salad was absolutely great !!!! Truly authentic. Portions where great as well. Absolutely great food !! Did I mention the words great ...lol hahaha ha . The only issue is that they add a few extra $$$$$ on top of the menu price ect ect ! Otherwise really good food , absolutely recommend!!!

Food was amazing but customer service was by far the worst I have ever experienced. Server was incredibly rude and would only hang around the table of customers she clearly knew outside of work. She was also INCREDIBLY Rude talking loudly about a very small mess that 2 very very young kids left behind. I would reccomend doing takeout but the customer service is HORRIBLE.

Popped in here for lunch with colleagues and it was fantastic. Very quick service and great food. My friend and I ordered the eggs Benedict and enjoyed them and our other friend got the chicken souvlaki wrap and it was huge and filling.

Prices are pretty good in this day and age. Food looka decent aswell. The menu selection is fairly underwhelming given the name of the resteraunt. More classic pub fare than the fancy foreign cuisine the name suggests. So if this is what youre looking for you cant go wrong.

Went for a jog near the Bronte Harbor on a Saturday morning. El Spero was the only restaurant that s open around the time we finished the jog. Lovely breakfast menu. I especially love the fact that they have a lighter side breakfast. Perfect for a after-run breakfast. Tried my friend s pancake. So fluffy. It was divine! They don t have those fancy coffee. Just Americano with decaf option. Service was good and fast. The lady was direct and swift.

Went here for Brunch got the eggs Benedict and it was dreadful. Egg was overcooked to the point where it was a devilled egg. Hollandaise sauce taste old and resulted in the food being returned hours later.

We went here after playing near the beach. To be honest I didn t expect the meat loaf can be that delicious. It s juicy and easy for baby to have. The salads is fresh and I like it a lot. Just the serve is little bit slow coming back and fourth fews times. Overall it s a good restaurant to have weekend lunch.

There is a picture that somebody posted with the same meal that I ordered and gave them 4 stars. Thats why you cant trust Google reviews. The potatoes are clearly burnt and the salmon served is flaked canned salmon, the Benedict sauce is no frills canned sauce. Why do people settle for mediocrity? I ordered the same meal and took one bite and left. I like good food. Its unfortunate that so many people in Canada have no idea what good food is. Hence Boston Pizza and Jack Astors everywhere. You wont find big box garbage like that in Europe. I love Canada but unless you live in little Italy Little Portugal etc. The food in this country is terrible. Its that way cause people accept it. I dont. You shouldnt either. Unless youre fine with mediocrity.

Love this place. I cant believe how great the service is - staff genuinely look happy to be there. A customer dropped their steak knife, and the hostess goes out of her way to rush to her table and offer a new one. You dont see that in so called 5 star restaurants. And many of the clients were on a first name basis. Wow. Of course, delicious food and large portions.

DONT GO OR PARK HERE. Scumbag owners will get your car towed instantly. If you go for a walk after eating youll come back to youre car gone. They have a tow truck waiting for people to park in the parking lot and if you aren t in their restaurant, you will be towed. Theres some el spero guy watching the parking lot all day waiting to call his buddy to tow you away for $250. It s basically their second business. Greedy Greedy.

In Canada they recommended this restaurant to me and... it was worth the search and being able to locate it, the food was super exquisite and the service was super excellent, I recommend it.

Multi generational family run restaurant that focuses on value, awesome portions, and our fave spot for a brekkie that fills the void - and then some! Chicken Parm, fish n chips, meatloaf, and the daily specials...? And, priced fairly, appropriately, and its so family oriented! Great for the kids, the only restaurant in Bronte that isnt bougie, just simply wants to feed you good food! Yum.... Vegetarian options: Not a vegetarian, but they do offer excellent salads and some mains that fall into this category. Parking: Behind the restaurant, but dont leave and stroll elsewhere. The parking lot itself serves several other businesses, and has a monitor and towing service ready to take your vehicle away if you decide to take a post meal wander... Kid-friendliness: They have coloring placemats for the kiddos, and kids menu options. Wheelchair accessibility: Ramps in, out, and a dedicated washroom on the main level.

I went there to eat dinner as I was in a rush for an appointment, I ordered and the food was delivered within 10 minutes and I was shocked and the dining experience only got better as the food taste amazing especially their pasta, not to mention the portion of the food with large and I could barely finish, Highly recommend if you love Italian food and want a fast and top notch wailing meal

The meal was absolutely delicious. I appreciate that after 50 years of service I can count on generous servings and wonderful staff providing superior service. Kudos!! Have been many times since I was a child!

We had a great meal here. The food and service was excellent. My only issue is that it was a hot day and there didnt seem to be air conditioning on. Maybe it was because I was facing the sun and the blinds werent really blocking it. Either way I would definitely still go back.

Food tasted like cardboard. I don t understand how they removed all the flavour from my food. I think everything was just bought frozen and defrosted when ordered. Definitely pick any other place to go. So genuinely terrible and a waste of money.

It was funny because the waitress did the classic how s everything over here! And I was I said the food was okay. It was the worst dry sweet potatoes I ve ever had and decent salmon slice toast She probed saying not excellent??? And I was like yeah it s alright . So then either her or her cousin? I forget (Family owned), at the table across from me when dropping off food for another guest obnoxiously said is THis SAtISFacToRY? While gesturing towards me. Laughed it off but gosh it was cardboard
