Colossus Greek Taverna in Oakville

We visited for lunch this week with a group of colleagues. The experience was awful. When the waiter and waitress were asked about their menu as it was our first time they were so rude, rolled their eyes and snickering to one another. They acted like it was a bother for them to have customers and giggles to themselves about us. The food was also very bland, undercooked and not appetizing at all. You would find better options at a Greek restaurant at the mall. More than anything it was the attitude and rudeness we experienced. Some of us more than others as there was a racist undertone. I would stay away from this place. So many other options in Oakville

All good but my large greek salad was swimming in dressing and the feta cheese was xtra salty and too plentif. I will order dressing and feta on the side next time.

We had a very disappointing experience. Upon arrival, we were seated at a lovely booth and began to settle in. After nearly 10 minutes, we had removed our coats, arranged our belongings, and were ready to order drinks. Then, the same staff member who seated us abruptly returned to tell us we needed to move because the table was now reserved. What made this even worse was how it was handled. Instead of apologizing or explaining, the staff member seemed more concerned with getting us out of the booth than ensuring a smooth transition. He didn t even bother to tell us where we were being moved to we had to ask him. The entire situation was awkward, and we were left feeling uncomfortable and unwelcome. To make matters worse, there was an empty table right next to us that could have easily accommodated the other reservation, or they could have taken the table we were eventually moved to. The new table was in a high-traffic area, far less desirable than the booth we had originally been given. This clumsy handling didn t go unnoticed by other diners, either. One even leaned over to us and joked about playing musical chairs and wondered if she should prepare to move as well. We were left feeling like second-rate guests, and the lack of professionalism in handling this situation made for an overall unpleasant experience.

Food is really Good, standard large portion. Very tasty. Service we got was incredible!!

Today we had the most incredible dining experience at Colossus Oakville. Our server Natalia was exceptional. Truly, one of the best servers we ve ever had. She was so knowledgeable, friendly, caring, and went above and beyond to make sure we were well taken care of. Everything we tried from the menu was absolutely delicious! We will definitely be coming back! Thank you Colossus and thank you Natalia!

I always feel a racist vibe in person and I decided to order take out. I would definitely recommend not ordering takeout. It s not well put together and foods cold. Not worth the money. Foods pretty decent in person, but if you re a person of colour get ready for poor service from the waitress/waiter.

Colossus Greek Taverna in downtown Oakville offers delicious, authentic Greek dishes in a warm, inviting setting. The food is well-prepared and flavorful, with standout seafood and classic options like fried kalamari and chicken souvlaki. Friendly staff and great service make it a top spot for Greek cuisine. Parking: Busy during Christmas season so come a bit early and park a bit further away.

We had reservations for 5:30 with the understanding that we needed to be complete by 7pm. The waiter came to take our drink order upon being seated and walked away before we were finished placing our drink order?!?. My husband followed him to the till and said that we only wanted one glass of wine and the waiter responded I know, and then my husband gave him the rest of the beverage orders. We ordered squid, and it was excellent. We also ordered the moussaka (good) the chicken souvlaki (mostly potatoes and rice) and a salad with sea bass which was limp, but tasty. We were asked if we wanted dessert and said yes and had two dessert menus tossed on the table. Two of our party ordered the baklava which was delicious and we were barely finished our dessert and they started clearing our table around us and said that the 7pm group had arrived. When we stood up we noted that two other tables of four were empty. It was rude and inappropriate. We felt rushed and ignored from beginning to end. Third time weve been there in the past five years - strike three. Never again.

My review is based on the customer service we experienced during our visit. We arrived without reservations, which is understandable, but we were open to dining on the patio. Unfortunately, the staff informed us it would be too cold and then promptly turned us away. The overall vibe felt unwelcoming, as if we werent wanted there. I believe theres room for improvement in customer service, as our experience felt quite rude. Based on this, we won t be returning or recommending this establishment to others.

Probbly the best grilled calamari ive had. Chicken was soft. Potato was great . Would def come back

Fabulous delicious dinner on outdoor patio. I had watermelon and feta salad, grilled octopus and my husband had beef souvlaki . The desserts were scrumptious and prepared by the restaurant. The service was friendly and efficient and our meals arrived in good time. I liked the wine choices and we loved the dolmades app.The prices were very reasonable too. Definitely will return!

Two stars for the food, one star for the rude waiter who told me this is not an Indian restaurant when I asked about their vegetarian options that were on their website but missing on the menu. Our daughter took us out to what we had hoped to be a lovely evening with Greek food. Yes I understand Greek food is primarily meat/fish but I don t need a condescending waiter telling me that I should go to an Indian restaurant for vegetarian food ! Did he say that because I m Indian? Clearly! And describing what hummus and baba ganoush was (really?? Did I ask for an explanation??) and we should have that at a Middle Eastern restaurant and not here as this was an authentic Greek restaurant!! Let me tell you that the food at this authentic restaurant was below average, the beans were not fully cooked and were tasteless, the moussaka was bland (my husband left almost the entire dish) and the keftedes were greasy. The only saving grace was the Saganaki. Apart from this waiter being completely off-putting and unpleasant, he was completely disinterested in checking in on us and left us waiting for the bill while he spent 10 minutes chatting up another table. Definitely not a restaurant I would ever go back to.

We just found it while exploring the town, and we have fallen in love immdiately. Atmosphere is great, waiters are so friendly and the food is the best we had in a long time.

The highlight for me would definitely be their meat selection, all of them were delicious and flavorful. Would definitely come back for it! Service was quick

I would recommend Colossus for delcious Greek food! The portions are very generous and the dishes come out relatively quickly. The servers are friendly, though it is sometimes hard to catch their attention so it may take a while for them to come around. There are parking lots behind the restaurant as well as some street parking on Lakeshore as well.

Our friends had told us they have been to this location before and absolutely loved it. Took me and my fiance & we absolutely loved it as well, the food was absolutely incredible and so yummy. I had the chicken souvlaki platter and that was out of this world, cooked to perfection. My fiance had the chicken pasta and I do have to say one of the best pastas both me & him have ever had. We also had some cocktail drinks that I wanted to continously order because it was so good! Overall what an incredible experience here in terms of atmosphere and flavour of food, the only negative I have is the service was very very slow to getting our bill when we were in need to get somewhere. Other then that, highly recommend this place for yummy Greek food!!

First time here, we were in Oakville and wanted Greek fare. Well I read reviews prior and NO REGRETS! Absolutely NONE! Service was top botch. The waitress was very informative and was great to let us know what options available. We chose the 3 dip option with pita. Omg let me tell you that there was more than plenty for 2 people! It was so flavourful!! We had leftovers to bring home. Our mains were Moussaka & chicken souvlaki plate. Our dinners came with salad and souvlaki came with rice, potatoes and tzatziki Everything was absolutely delicious and pleasant surprise for the first time! Thank you!!

We discovered this place purely on coincidence based on the reviews. The place is beautifully decorated, the food was so good and the service provided by Dimitri was excellent. We enjoyed his sense of humour and personalizing our experience. We ordered the platter for 2 but I think it can feed 4 easily. Definitly recommend but be sure to book a reservation (learned that too late but they still managed to accomodate us).

Great patio

We came on a Saturday afternoon & sat outside. We had the chicken souvlaki dinner to share. Overall the food was good, but some things could make it crave worthy. The chicken tasted ok but could have been better. It looked pinkish, and overall appearance not great. The rice was ok too.. had rice at Mr Greeks a few years back and it was excellent. The lemon Potatoes were a tad dry, again loved the way Mr greek made those using tomato sauce. The salad with the meal had wayyy too much dressing on it. We ordered some French fries and they were hard and burnt sort off.. not sure how they got like that. Our server Kalcmir ( Hope I got his name right ) was excellent, he was attentive and overall just very kind and prompt . Kids had some pasta with butter it was ok. Overall the food could be a lot better. The tatiziki sauce was definitely tasty.

Great little restaurant in downtown Oakville. The food was great and the service was amazing. I have been there a few times. Me and my dad were there for lunch. The waitress gave us great recommendations for beer as well. I definitely recommend going there

This was my first time visiting this Greek restaurant. As I am Greek the food was not disappointing however the customer service was. With the down pours happening across the GTA we were late for our reservations. The birthday girl patiently waited for us at the table. The older gentleman who greeted us came right out to say it was only 1.5 hr seating time. No where does it say this on their website and we felt as though as soon as we sat down we basically had to order fast and eat quickly. The young lady who was one of the servers was very rude. As we looked around us and the table who sat next to us shortly after were still there. Is it because he was a member of council for the City of Mississauga? Hmmm. My friend sat at the table patiently for 45 min waiting until the rest of us arrived and no one said anything to her about the minimum time we had to sit, eat and enjoy ourselves. Had we known we would have gone elsewhere. I know our lateness is no good excuse to them as I sit on the 427 in a flood this rudeness is inexcusable. I come from a Greek restaurant establishment and customer service my whole life and never have I experience such rudeness!! We later decided we are taking our time.

If I could give this place a zero, I would. Save your money and go to Jimmy the Greek, it would taste better. If you want a nicer atmosphere, go to barangas on the beach in Hamilton. Where they actually serve good Greek food with a beautiful view. I got the chicken souvlaki plate with the feta fries, the chicken was so dry and flavourless that the only way I could get it down was with tzatziki which by the way, they literally give on a tablespoon, which obviously is not enough for the whole plate. The potatoes are bland and the rice was mushy. The feta fries were literally just soggy fries with feta that s it. They lure you in with their pretty pictures online, don t be fooled, Baranga s on the beach has quality food that is worth the price!

I had a great dinner there. The food was amazing! The souvlaki has just enough char on it and the Greek salad is fantastic! Lemon potatos and spanakopitas are #1! And of couse the tzatziki sauce makes everything even better. Service was great and the decor here is great too. Good ambiance. Ive been there before and know Ill be returning again!

Food is so good and tasty. People there are so nice. We were given this complimentary dessert plate because of the delay, although we didnt notice the wait due to the beautiful patio.

Colossus is simply the BEST! We even had them cater our wedding and everyone still remembers and talks about how good the food was to this day! The portions are amazing, the quality and taste are amazing. Authentic Greek food from real Greeks! As a Greek I recommend colossus to everyone, and their Farma take out and market downstairs is also completely divine ! They were so good to us for catering our wedding , so incredibly generous and professional and peak quality food. And we choose colossus for every important family gathering ! Absolute disappointment . The service was great but everything else was bad. The veggies were old and tasted bad. The meat was dry and it was really bad. The hummus was old and musty. And over priced. The cheese was old.

The reason I gave a 1 star was due to the lack of customer service and care. Our waitress as soon as we were sat was not at all hospitable or kind. She had poor attitude and didn t seem to care that she was serving customers who wanted to have a nice Greek lunch. We immediately lost our appetite, in which I decided to leave.

Very pretty and food is always good:) Dietary restrictions: My partner has celiac so its always difficult going out but it was pretty good! He has the fried calamari with the fries and a salad (but the fries do share a fryer but he didnt have a reaction) and it was pretty good!

Honestly, the Stixx Platter is our traditional go to menu item 100% of the time. Its so awesome .

Dinner Saturday night - group of 7 people. The restaurant was very busy. The service was good - easy to split bills as asked for before ordering. Although I did get bumped a couple times by one of the servers as she walked by. Food came out quite quickly. All of the food we ordered was quite tasty. Highlight was the octopus - extremely tender and juicy. The pork souvlaki was good. The pilaf rice could have been seasoned a little more, Found it quite bland. The potatoes did not have any trace of lemon flavour. The lamb souvlaki had good texture. But it was slightly under done (asked for medium, but got medium rare) and never got the salad or rice pilaf that the menu stated came with it. Portions were big, so go hungry.

This has always been a staple in Oakville downtown and its stellar. The saganaki is excellent and we loved it. The lamb souvalaki is a show stealer. I keep coming back here and love it!

Better than all the Greek restaurants in Toronto.

Ive been ordering their Chicken Souvlaki Dinner via Uber Eats for a while now. I can safely say that they make the best Chicken Souvlaki, in my opinion. From the tzatziki to the rice pilaf and especially the grilled chicken; everything just compliments each other with taste. Highlight is definitely the tzatziki, super creamy and flavorful. I cant wait to try the dish in person in the restaurant soon.

I had the Greek paella . It was so good and fresh! Portion size was generous as well! The girl that served us was very pleasant and professional. The atmosphere inside the restaurant is awesome , loved the decor ! Felt like you were in Greece !

If you are in a hurry and have 5 dollars, then you can buy a hot dog at the nearest establishment. But if you want to experience the delight of food, enjoying a leisurely meal on a warm autumn evening on a small cozy terrace, then you definitely need to look here! We ordered a seafood platter: octopus, shrimp, squid, sea bass, anchovies... Oh!!! This is not something like... This is what you need to ENJOY! (But be warned, even for three people it was a large portion!) Impeccable service, good food in a good establishment and in a great area! I didnt want to leave... Its been 8 months and Im still delighted with the seafood that was prepared at the tavern. Usually they are either harsh or dry or something else. I had no idea that shrimp and octopus and squid could be TENDER !!! Have you already watched Eurovision??? And what??? The octopus, squid and shrimp at the tavern are the BEST!!!

Got an order for pickup. Despite it being more than $100 I wasnt offered a seat. I had to wait outside under the winter weather. Plenty of seats and tables were available. They werent busy at all. Their food is amazing always but I just cant get over this lack of attention or care for their clients.

Food was ok, service was horrible. Ordered the food online for pickup, drove from Milton to get the food. Arrived 10min early and called to ask if my order was ready for pick up only to be told my order will be ready to be picked up 30min from the time I placed the online order. Could have at least checked Finally got my order and drove home. Found out my order was missing items. I called them to let them know, they took down my information and informed me someone would call back the next day it s been a week and no one ever called. Would not recommend and would not go back

Everything was pretty good until I got the bill. You were generous to give me a 45 minute slot at a table that you set aside for a large group. I was asked to order some thing that the kitchen could make quickly, so I thought I would make it easy on you by ordering chicken souvlaki. What I didn t realize is that you assumed I meant the full dinner instead of the other option with the pita bread. Partly my fault for not looking at the menu more detail, but also the servers for not confirming what size meal I wanted. If I had seen it on the menu, I would not have ordered it as I don t think rice, potatoes and mostly lettuce in a salade are worth paying almost $30 for. When I go back? Yes. But I would definitely have a better look at the menu.

This is a pretty Greek restaurant in downtown Oakville. Their food is pleasant; the main dishes outperform their appetizers and desserts. We tried this during Taste of Oakville period so it is fairly priced, good value for the money. Only a short walk to the park area overlooking the lake.

Delicious Greek food.

We have only stopped in once, but will definitely make this our regular dining spot when we are in the area. We had the calamari, which was exceptional. Cooked perfectly, full of flavour and a good portion for the price too. Well worth stopping in, you wont be disappointed! Food

Cozy space with (very) generous servings of Greek staples. The souvlaki, salads, dips, and greek seafood paella were all a hit. You can probably get away with one entree for two people.

Joseph was fabulous from the moment we walked in the door. He had a great sense of humour with all 6 of us! He is one of those servers who can memorize everyones orders even when people were adding and changing. He checked on us enough without being there too much. Ask for his section ...you WONT be disappointed!! We will go back JUST to see him!! We loved everything we ordered!! Theyre not allowed to do flaming saganaki at the table anymore but thats ok it was DELICIOUS!!! I prefer tzatziki with no dill in it but I could work around it ( 99.9% certain it had dill) OPA!!! Dietary restrictions: We had a gluten free and dairy free diner. Joseph went and checked which cheese was dairy free.

Always delicious food at reasonable prices. Dont know why we dont come here more often. Relaxing patio despite the Covid conditions. Attentive and pleasant staff. Try the sangria, halloumi and paella.

Unfortunately the last few times we have been to this restaurant was disappointing....it took 40 minutes for the food to come and when it did arrive my husbands lamb was cold and the roasted vegetables were overcooked and lukewarm.

I was with a group of 5 friends on a girls trip aug 4th around 3pm and got lucky to get a table on their patio. Our waitress was so efficient and took her time to explain each cocktail & recommend dishes she thought we d enjoy. -this can be challenging with a large group of chatty women ! but she was so patient. The grilled and fried calamari were cooked perfectly & the salad was delicious. Everyone enjoyed their meals. Highly recommend & i want to commend the waitress on her personality and service- i don t remember her name, she has red streaks in her hair :)

Great spot in the heart of DT Oakville. And weather was amazing that we got to enjoy sitting outside on the patio food was amazing along with the service. One short cause something on the menu didnt make sense and took our server quite some time to figure it out. But she was SUPER honest and friendly so overall 5 place.

My favourite restaurant ever!!!! My family and I go almost once a week. The watermelon salad is amazing but you cant go wrong with the entire menu. I recommend everything. Natalia is the loveliest server, we look forward to seeing her every time. She takes care of us so well each visit and always makes us feel so welcome. First time visiting the restaurant and it did not disappoint. Natalia and tania were on point with the service and the portions are huge! The plater for 2 can easily feed 4. Definitely a must try in DT Oakville

Wonderful food and great service

Axe is awesome. I was there for my birthday with 15 friends. Restaurant is not big but they could accommodate us comfortably. Food is always really good, right priced. Staff is friendly. I recommend make reservations. Its always full.

Cozy and intimate inside, optional outdoor seating in lively Oakville. We enjoyed the Souvlaki, and Salmon along with the flaming cheese appetizer. The cocktails are all made with love and the service is always top notch.

Fantastic food and atmosphere. Their vegetarian main courses are a little limited, and one of them is a fish-based dish.

I coordinated with Tanya to host a company event here for 32 employees- the experience was amazing! :) All of the employees were genuinely so happy about delicious the food was. The service was absolutely amazing: they went above and beyond to make sure we were taken care of. From cutting up our cake into pieces for everyone, serving the fruits that we brought along with us & dealing with my requests. Overall, just amazing, amazing experience. Tanya and Jane were both absolutely incredible. Thank you so much!

Great place to enjoy delicious food. People are very friendly. Come hungry because there is a lot of food on the plate, but you can take it home Food : 5/5

The service was too slow we had to wait 30 min to get the food. Souvlaki meal that I got was cold and dry. My son could not eat the meat he had. The pasta plates were hot and good tasting. The patio seating was nice.

Amazing quality food. We started with the fried calamari, and I tried the chicken souvlaki plate. The portions were generous which matched the price. The potatoes were incredible, so soft and delicious! Will be going back for sure.

The place is pricier than most Greek restaurants. It is also better than most Greek restaurants. The food here is absolutely to die for. The crispy halloumi is by far one of the best things I ve ever had. I cannot recommend this place enough. The service is really nice too and as are the drinks. Perfect date night spot.

I was not impressive by the food or the service, a very expensive restaurant probably because its location. Ive eaten in other Greek Restaurant much less expensive and tried food. Parking: You have to look for paid street or free street parking, difficult to park and find.

Been at this restaurant a couple of times and we will not go back. The food is below average , the vegetables were grilled probably in the morning and tasted like dirty grill and propane gross ! The chicken was dry , the desert was overly sweet nothing tasted like propped Greek food . Service was just ok , atmosphere ok , it s. Very narrow dinning area , always crowded and uncomfortable . The washrooms are not cleaned properly

The Moussaka was wonderful, as was the baklava. Delicious!

My birthday celebration at Colossus Greek Taverna was nothing short of spectacular. Her expert recommendations led us to culinary delights such as the Saganaki, Arni Paidakia, and the Lavraki, each dish surpassing our expectations in both presentation and flavor. What truly stood out was Natalias thoughtful gesture of surprising us with Loukoumadopites for dessert fried dough sticks topped with simple syrup and cinnamon, accompanied by velvety vanilla ice cream. The combination of outstanding service, delectable dishes, and a warm atmosphere makes Colossus Greek Taverna a five-star destination. I highly recommend it to anyone seeking an authentic Greek dining experience that leaves a lasting impression. Im already counting down the days until my next visit!

Ordered delivery thru the Colossus website. Order delivered to wrong address. Despite the recipient at the wrong address contacting the restaurant, when I called they refused to do anything about it and said it was my problem and I would have to file for a refund via their 3rd party delivery partner. They refused to help or refund and were nothing but dismissive. Congratulations on losing a local resident for life. If you re not prepared to honour delivery don t offer It to your customers on your own website.

Last Wednesday was our first time having lunch at this place. Unfortunately, it will be our last. Service, the atmosphere was all good. However, the FOOD... I had Dolmades and Midia (mussel), and my husband had gyro. We both found it extremely salty while eating. Within 2-3 hours, we both had upset stomach and diarrhea. I hope the owners will take this review seriously before someone gets very very sick.

Terrible food via Uber eats. I have eaten at this restaurant before in person - it was delicious but the Uber eats food felt like a completely different quality. Im hesitant to come here again after that bad experience.

A bit too luxurious for students but foods are alright. Asked for a side dip of hummus but got a weird judging attitude from the waitress. Then the dip came with a big plate and charged us for 8 bucks. A dish and a drink easily costs over 30. Then the waitress complained there is no tip when she didn t do anything but basic serving. Please properly train your staffs

Our family of 8, plus 2 toddlers and a young lad of 7 had dinner to celebrate the patriarchs 70th birthday. Dmitri, our server was most attentive to our needs and helpful with the selection of food and drink for each adult and all the kids. The food is amazing - fresh, flavourful and large portions (we packed away enough leftovers for lunch tomorrow!). The Greek beer and wine was most enjoyable. All in all, a wonderful experience, made special by the friendly and attentive staff assisting Dmitri. Thanks. We will be back! Kid-friendliness: The taverna had a number of families with young kids

A great little gem in the heart of downtown Oakville. The food and service are equally fantastic. Good value and quick service. We were lucky enough to taste their baklava as we celebrated a birthday here. I would highly recommend giving this restaurant a try. You wont regret it.

Ordered the chicken and beef souvlaki. Chicken was a little dry. Beef was medium and delicious. Everything was seasoned beautifully. The fries that came with the beef were cooked nice and crispy. We also ordered the dip. We tried all 6 and was really impressed with the olive one. Tastes like the olives were mashed into the dip; really big portions of dip and lots of pita slices given. During lunch time on a Sunday wasnt too busy, able to have great conversations, and not rushed.
