Barley Vine Rail Co in Orangeville

We tried this because of the google reviews .. and it was a costly, tasteless experience. Food was cool, steak sandwich was full of grizzle, we added mushrooms ($4) and got peppers and no mushrooms. Fries were stone cold. Upgraded 2 sides to sweet potatoe fries and garden salad. These portions were less than half the size the of the cold fries. We were seated less than one hour and we re told there is a reservation and asked to finish up. We were NOT previously advised of a time limit. AND the washrooms are NOT accessible massive flight of stairs not good for elderly with a cane.

We were downstairs at the Rivival 1863. The food was delicious the service was awesome and the atmosphere was amazing Wheelchair accessibility: This place is not wheelchair friendly as it is a sleep easy located in the lower level

Had a great night out at the BVR tonight. Muscles were amazing ! Highly recommend the halibut stuffed with shrimp. The pork schnitzel was really good. Thanks Monika for great service.

Really horrible food. This restaurant is not only outdated, their meat is dryer than a hockey puck. If you have no standards at all, this is the place for you. I am disgusted.

I ve been going to the BVR for a long time now and the food and the service are always amazing. The owners and the staff have such a special way of making you feel right at home. I think about their onion rings often (you ll never be able to enjoy another onion ring after you try theirs). The food is so yummy and comforting you can never go wrong here. I recommend it to everyone, and I always love supporting a local business!

bvr is my husband and i s go to restaurant when meeting with friends. the atmosphere, service and food are all great. We even had visitors from Ireland come over and we had to bring them here! definitely recommend.

The atmosphere was great, the food was alright (bland, no flavour), and the service was absolutely terrible. Had to ask two different times for a glass of water and it took them 20 minutes to come get our plates after we finished eating. The server was not friendly at all. Disappointing for our first time there.

Where to start? Well first off. Generally a tip is something earned. Instead here they add it to your bill. Very odd. A sign of a bad business. However that does explain why the waitress looked and acted miserable, I guess she doesnt have to be warm and kind anyways because they charge you for a tip. So why bother... She gave us the bill then said oh heres the real bill and it was extra on top of it. So why would they give us 2 bills with 2 different prices?! But before all that was the food. Very bland, on top of that the steak sandwich which was just bits of leftover meat in a bun. Not an actual steak sandwich was small and bland. Normally anywhere else it comes with mushrooms. However what you wont know is here they charge you $4 for what works out to be 1 mushroom! $4! Thats nuts and they didnt even tell us prior. But wait theres more! you want Ketchup for your fries and a sauce. (Which is in the description of what comes with it) They charge $2 more for condiments Which is absolutely ridiculous. I suggested a beer taster to my friend while here and the waitress rolled her eyes and said you dont want that Long story short we rate this our worse restaurant experience of the year. Save your hard earned money, and go elsewhere. - Bad staff, not trained well - No sense of a Manager. - Bland food thats overpriced - Extra charges - Expensive - Misleading menu and waitress - Forced tips (a sign of a business starting to fail) To the owner: It takes years to get good customers it takes minutes to lose them, people vote with their feet. We wont be back. UPDATE: to owners response, take the criticism and improve. Your basically telling the customer the experience they had. When its not the case. -Normally a manager would still come and check the table that was not the case.(especially a large group) -We Still expressed our concerns with the front desk the young man did nothing. Did you even know that? We did that so it was private and to not ruin anyone elses night but then you went to my friend. Which is not professional. -tips are earned you cant expect bad service to just automatically get a tip. -Normally an issue would be solved instead of even leading to this point. As for other reviews, Dont compare someone elses experience with ours.

Everything was awesome!! The burger was fantastic, great atmosphere, amazing music, and great service - Monika was excellent would highly recommend checking this place out!

Fun time always

I drove up from London to meet my mom and sister who live in Ottawa and are visiting Barrie. My sister recommended meeting in Orangeville at the BVR. What a fabulous restaurant! Talk about history and fabulous decor. The menu is outstanding as was the food. Much value for the money. The service was above and beyond. Cute patio! Ill have to sit out next time Im there. Definitely looking forward to subsequent visits. Highly recommended!

Update. Visited Aug 2024. Service. Food and atmosphere was on point. Updated review to 5 stars. Great staff , food and service. Loved the homemade cheesecake. Disappointed waffles and chicken removed from menu. A bit of smell on the patio from surrounding areas otherwise a good treat.

Everything was so so fresh and flavourful. Service was fast and music was great. A must try!

Best fish and chips Ive ever had. Caesar (drink) was amazing and so was the Caesar salad. You can tell everything is fresh here. Definitely worth another visit you wont regret it

Fantastic service!

Yuck. The food was terrible - all 3 of us had concerns with our meals and none of us are picky. It took well over an hour to get served once we sat down and even the drinks weren t good. On top of it all, it was expensive. We will not be returning.

Great selection of drinks and Beef short ribs were amazing! Service was very friendly and accommodating for a family dining with a 3 year old. Its a shame the patio views got covered with a large development that went up right next to the patio bannisters. But understandably, not much can be done about shoddy city planning. We will still keep coming back for the service and food.

A very delicious potato leek soup which was not too thick and well seasoned. Fish tacos were superb. Beautiful atmosphere.

The prices are outrageous for the mediocre food that is served. All very bland. Fries were very over cooked to the point some were hard to chew. They were all small pieces on everyones plate. Not one full length fry. Its like what you would get at the bottom of a chip bag. Fry crumbs. Had to add large amount of salt and pepper to the gravy just for it to has some kind of flavor. And FOUR DOLLARS for 1 sliced up mushroom added to the burger?! FOUR?! This place is laughable. Will not be returning to this scam restaurant. Go elsewhere for much better food that isnt overpriced garbage.

There is no denying the food is good and it s a really neat place aesthetically. HOWEVER, we have been there a handful of times and the service was not great. Even though we tried coming at quieter times (when the place was half full or less), the wait time for the food always seems to be exceedingly long. The time before our final visit our server was quite standoffish, but we decided to give the place another chance because people can have off days (and most of the servers are actually quite lovely). We had the same server again this and she was just as unpleasant. It s really a shame because we quite liked those duck fat fries, but it s honestly not worth it :(

Absolutely absurd! Dirty restaurant...service was sad....and poor atmosphere! Walked in and left within 5 minutes..I would never return! How anyone gives this place more than 2 stars has seriously low expectations of a restaurant!

Had the most delicious dinner here tonight with my sister. We had the chop salad and the bourbon ginger glazed salmon. Everything was delicious! Kudos to all the kitchen staff for such an amazing meal. We will be back with friends to let them experience your great resraurant!! Our server Maya and the Manager Dee are just great. All the staff here are very friendly and efficient!! Love this place!!

Stopped in for lunch in the patio with the family today. The service here is great right from the start. Our server Monika is awesome to deal with! Super friendly and helpful. The food is outstanding and the prices are really great too for the quality you re getting. On par price wise with a Kelsey s or something maybe, but way better in every way. We ve been here a few times in the past and it has been great every time! We will 100% be back again and again. Kid-friendliness: Great sized servings and great quality food.

Friend & I thoroughly enjoyed eating at Barley Vine Rail last Sunday for the first time. We dont live in Orangeville. Great food ( seafood pasta & tuna poke bowl). The star was the carrot cake though! Great service from Jade, attentive, friendly, polite. Great experience all around. Will go back again for sure!

Its noisy with poor acoustics but the service and food is good to great. Duck fat fries may not be gourmet worthy but there are damn good. The menu is diverse and interesting. Service is very good. On a less enthusiastic note, 1/ If there is music in the basement lounge, the bass can be very annoying if your table is upstairs above that area. 2/ You may be subjected to very loud table of baseball caps, which is confusing because there were no hotdogs, and it isnt sunny inside.

Barley rail is an exceptional experience with a tantalizing menu. Firstly I would like to praise the welcoming wait staff. I have visited the venue twice and both times there is nothing to complain about. Salads were dressed generously. Onion rings seasoned tastefully. Spare rib cooked tenderly. Even the vegan chili surprised me. If you are at the venue on a late evening the downstairs opens up to a different experience for which I have yet to partake. From what I can see is there is a different menu with cocktails done by a bar chef. I spent roughly $130 for dinner between my wife and I on 2 course with alcohol.

My wife and I stopped in today for lunch. What a great restaurant! Great food (best fries!), friendly staff and cool spot! We definitely will be back!

Good food and service

It was good, my spouse and I went for my birthday last night and they are very welcoming, food was excellent (I had pasta alla vodka, spouse had the salmon special they were offering last night, March 22 2024) and she was happy with her meal as well. The reason for 4* on food would be the portion amount for the salad - I feel it could have been a bit larger, or just more of everything it had. Asides this, 5* all around. Amazing service, thank you for the meal :) Kid-friendliness: Our 9 month old son came with us, and they were very welcoming even when he was being a little bit loud. Got a cool pair of glasses

Garlic bread was good! Pasta was ok, slightly overcooked, but flavour well! Fries were burnt, couldnt even taste the dill or whatever the seasoning was supposed to be. Salad had way too much dressing it was difficult to eat, and we ended up wasting it! (Salad is my favorite thing to eat, it was sad because the salad sounded promising and so good!) The drink was good! The server was nice, and the atmosphere was nice! At least our bellies were full when we left. Always thankful!

Wonderful pasta. Suggest the sea food bucatini. Pub like atmosphere and A bit noisy. Monika our server was great.

Start by saying I Came up from collingwood. Food & Overall experience is amazing, staff was wonderful, servers very polite and did wonderful explaining the menus and drinks and the atmosphere including live music was smashing, 10/10 Valentine s Day with my girlfriend. Chef Eric really shines and makes his dish creations standout! Coming back before I go back to collingwood this week!

We visited this place for the first time this evening and it was delicious!!! We got the Cajun fried chicken sandwich and the big BVR with duck fries. The garlic aioli and ketchup as dips were delicious too! The service was great and a variety of beers on tap! We will return!!

Recently brought my beef farmer parents to Barley Vine since this is my husband and my favourite Orangeville restaurant. Best beef short rib we ve ever had in our lives quoted from third generation beef farmers! Cant say enough good things about this place! My mom also said its the best Onion rings shes ever had and I agree!!! Yummmmm!

Great burger and atmosphere, had a great time.

We went for an early dinner after the theatre and a had wonderful experience. The beef short rib was absolutely delicious and so was the steak Caesar salad. The staff there are wonderful and our server was professional and attentive.

I rarely order steak as most places cant cook it properly. It was perfectly medium rare, and not overseasoned. Havent had such a good steak in years. Service was great, never an empty glass. Would highly recommend the BVR to anyone. Food : 5/5

My family just moved to Orangeville this summer, and this was the first restaurant we went to. I was first attracted to the duck fat fries & let me tell you, this place did not disappoint. I have been back about 5 times since the food is delicious. The ketchup is homemade & my 1 year old daughter loves the pasta. This has become one of our families favorite places to eat because of the great service we get everytime we come. If youre in orangeville & are looking for a great burger & and fries, look no further

I was taken here for the first time by my lovely boyfriend, and it was delicious first the drinks are incredible so flavorful and definitely one of the best cocktails Ive had. For the meal I had the fish and chips which was tender and flakey the batter was flavorful and not to heavy, and the frys are so packed with flavor there delicious I definitely recommend getting the frys. Overall a lovely experience cute atmosphere, great food and great drinks!

Great place to meet friends for a GoodFriday Fish dinner!

Went for lunch with a group. We each had something different. Each person loved what they ate, and meal sizes were huge! I had fish and chips and it was so good! I read below someone else said the fish and chips was not great but the slaw was good. I would say the opposite, the slaw wasnt my fave but the fish and chips is comparable to heritage fish and chips and was really good. It is hard to find good fish and chips. I guess it all depends on what you like/dont like but overall, our entire group had good things to say about each meal!

There are very few establishments in Ontario that can produce the quality of food and authentic experience like this tour-de-force nestled in the heart of Orangeville. Thrilled to discover a magical combination of prohibition-era James Cagney goodness mixed with a film noir backdrop in a speakeasy forged out of pure golden era imagination. Angela and Mark have done something exquisite here and it needs to be seen to be appreciated. Thoroughly impressed and highly recommended as the place youd want to spend a Friday night savouring the musical vibes and watching the minstrels in the gallery; Barley Vine is a true revelation for the uninitiated and a glorious validation to those who are fortunate enough to call themselves regulars. Bravo!

My family and I dined on the patio after attending the first summer outdoor farmers market of the year, and everything was amazing! The Cajun chicken sandwich (new menu) was to die for! I was given an option of about 4 or 5 different cheeses to put on it and went with what the waitress suggested - blue cheese! Everyone else was super happy with their meal as well. We had our 70 lb dog with us, and they were more than happy to bring out some cold water for him - he even got some cuddles from the staff! Needless to say, we cant wait to go back!!

Good but not great. The 3 of us were greeted in a friendly manner, but we were quickly told inside seating was the only option. We were seated in a nice windowed table area, but next to a large party with kids running all around and under theirs. The fish & chips was ok, but the gluten penne pasta was too aldente (read hard & chewy), oh and I got 3 or maybe 4 pieces of breaded calamari that were overpriced for my appetizer. Dessert (no dairy free option). Btw, if you get nauseous with the heavy bass from a loud band, beware because youll be treated to that experience no charge when they start playing downstairs.

Came with a group of friends hoping to be able to grab a bite and some wine a about 5-10 minutes after 8pm today only to find the open sign turned off and no sign of activity inside. I can understand emergencies happening but ghosting without even a heads up or an explanation posted is extremely unprofessional and speaks volumes about this establishment. Ultimately, it is their loss because they missed out on business (group of 10) and gaining a loyal customer. 10/10 would not recommend. Edit: since I normally don t take precious time out of my day and I have no clue how to respond to an owner s reply, I will simply say: Take ownership and accountability instead of insinuating Im a liar. First impression was made and I dont come back from those. There is no need for me to personally email you. It was my first time there. Didn t realize I was supposed to make a scene and be doing the most to confirm a place is open. If you know you have an issue with the sign, fix it. That s is all.

Lunch time, patio. The server, Jade was nice and the $14 burger & fries were fine. But beware of undisclosed inflated charges: A slice of cheese for your burger (an additional $2!) and a strip of bacon (an additional $3!). Coffee was $4.25! served in a small French press and refills cost an additional $4.25 (unless you were willing to accept just more hot water). All taxed of course. What could have been lunch for <$25 ballooned as a result to $33 + tip. Hmm. I left feeling a bit hosed.

This is the place I always take friends & company who visit from out of town. Staff are incredible & the food is always well done- you can tell the chef team knows what theyre doing. Favourite local restaurant in Orangeville!

I went for a poutine take-out because I read an old review here but they dont sell poutine anymore! soooo I got my own cheese curds and came back to try the famous duck fries. I was expecting to have enough money for a reasonable tip cause the menu (possibly just the online menu?) said the fries were 6$ but they were 8$. I apologized to the waitress. When I got my fries and gravy it was literally a tablespoon or less of gravy for 2$. The waitress ran away quickly so I couldnt say anything but I wasnt about to ask for spit-gravy anyways. I was heartbroken that I would not be able to make a proper poutine for 11.50 (+2.50 for my cheese). Luckily the fries are soooo good, perfectly herby and salty and it all had enough heat and moisture for it to all stick together and melt in my mouth. I look forward to giving it another chance someday though. ~60calories/$ (not great)

Had an amazing tasty lunch here today! Sophia made our lunch extra special. She was kind and extremely helpful and takes her job very seriously and does an excellent job! We loved the burger and the chicken wrap and the duck fries were out of this world! You need to go and have lunch at this wonderful establishment and ask for her to be your server. Enjoy! Loved the meal, the Penne Alla Vodka hits the spot everytime. Great ambience and lovely service as well. Would definitely recommend.

Overpriced wine and food

Usally I love this place but today i decided to order bvr off of skip the dishes and first off took forever to get here then when it finally did i opend the box to cold food.. i took a bite of the burger and it was so burnt. very disappointed because i usally really do like the food here.
