Orangeville’s only true Gastropub! From fresh shucked oysters with our house made sauces to fantastic daily specials. See you at the Hatter!
We pre-planned a bus trip stop for 40 people at lunch time. The folks at The Hatter were amazing. Food was awesome. Highly recommend stopping here for a bite to eat
Today I finally got to try the Prime rib dinner. I would have tried it a long time ago, but did not realize that it only appears on Skip the Dishes on the weekend at 5pm. It was delicious! Good size serving. Love the yorkshire pudding. My only wish, would be that the brocollini was cooked more. It also arrived nice and hot, which is rare for a delivery meal. Fantastic meal. Will order again.
Been here before and had great food just moved here and thought we would go ahead. Service was good however waited 45 min for our meal I ordered medium roast came well done my husband ordered liver and onions - he said it was the worse he has ever eaten. Sorry won’t be back.
Been here a few times. The food is really good and very reasonably priced. The portion sizes are quite large so it's good value for your money. We have found the service a little slow, but maybe they're short staffed so who knows. The servers are always friendly though. Tables, floors and chairs are always clean.
Went to check out Gastropub with my wife. Food was excellent quick and delicious. Seen this restaurant on an episode of the Burger Meister exactly as they explained no disappointment! Waitress was nice. Ordered Burger and my wife had the Korean Salmon power bowl both excellent!
As a foodie, coming from Toronto to meet my sister I was skeptical about bar food. She kept on raving about this Lobster pasta dish, so, we had a go. I had no expectations. We started with a Greek Salad, which was fresh and delicious (can be shared with 3) and some sweet potatoe fries which were very good. To the main dish, the lobster pasta was really good, and a big portion for the money value. My small critique, less black pepper while cooking. Overall it was creamy, and you can really taste the lobster. It was a 10 for me. Ah, the fries are good too 😊
First time visiting took my mom out for lunch. We both ordered the Lobster and bacon grilled cheese. Yum it was good. Fries were cooked how I like them a little well done and my mom said her soup was also good. Looking forward to coming back.
Food is average. Fries are way too salty. Fish and chips are insanely salty. Mushrooms on the appetizers are not what they are made out to be. Do not order these. Only thing I can recommend is the oysters.
Not as good as when Jo is there
Very nice bar and polite hostess Vegetarian options: I just know they sell vegetarian options I didnt eat that because I like meat Parking: There is lots of parking.. and it is wheelchair accessible Kid-friendliness: Its a family-oriented bar children are more than welcome at this restaurant Wheelchair accessibility: Wheelchair accessible with plenty of parking
Great food, nice staff, awesome vibe
Food was great, fish and chips and beef rib was awesome. Good prices.
This is a really cool spot. Food was excellent! My brother and I had Blackened Salmon and Halibut Tacos.
First time there & we had great time. Both enjoyed the food. Very friendly service both food & bartender Will definitely be going back. Food : 5/5 |
Solid pub food and a classic pub setting. The wings are good and they have some interesting non-classic pub offerings.
Pretty great place
Calamari leaned towards potatoe crusted haddock with amazing side Veg. I am a potatoe Food
The service was great and the people were really nice and I had a really good burger and fries
Understaffed but excellent Food
Great pub. Good food and cold beer. Will return.
I liked it
Dogs allowed on patio! While the food was edible the service and environment made up for what the food lacked and will definitely be back. Our server was personable and kind.
Michelle the bartender is the best.
Literally every time I come here they are out of the first 2 or 3 options that I want to order for years. Oysters, if you come any other day but Wednesday they never have them. (Don t put them on the menu which literally says everyday on it, if you re only bringing them in for Wednesdays). Out of Shaved ribeye at 7:00 pm on a Friday evening before the rush manager either doesn t know how to run a restaurant, or the owner is too cheap to bring in enough supply to last for basic demand. Pathetic after so many attempts and SO many failures
Flatbread is the best I ve ever had!
Food is pretty good for a pub.. the service is amazing.. and the patio is pretty comfortable Parking: The parking is out front and there is a couple of handicap spots Kid-friendliness: I have seen kids menu of times in this restaurant.. but more like the lunch times Wheelchair accessibility: Where is wheelchair accessible
Liver & onions...liver was dry af and only had 4 slivers of onions & 3 tiny pieces of diced bacon. Terrible Asked if there was black pepper in second meal, told no so ordered it. Throat swelled up due to pepper allergy and when staff was asked was told theres pepper in everything, we didnt state allergy. Dont recommend but if u choose to go ask many questions and be specific when ordering
An independent Orangeville staple. Perry and the crew treat their customers amazing, and the pub is fantastic.
Went on Father s day. Service was horrible. Food (prime rib) was so tough and tasteless that my husband and I took a few bites and left it. We should have said something then. We were with 2 other couples and didnt want to complain. Caesar salad was very good. We were going to order dessert -but after our dinner plates were cleared - didnt see our waitress for almost 30 min. so we gave up and wanted to get out.
Excellent food and great place to relax and have a few drinks, the prices were also very reasonable :)
Such a warm and welcoming place! I went when the weather wasn t the best, but come summer, I bet the atmosphere is even nicer! The food is delicious and there are so many options. All the staff members are super friendly. The building itself is a bit outdated, but it s really nothing off putting, just something I noted.
Food was ok.wings were overcooked and dry my wife had the fish said it was ok.we have had better meals here.the waitress was great. It was very busy. Mothers day.
Love the relaxed atmosphere and the food never disappoints.
Everything was great, we got the Korean bbq sandwich they have, tasted delicious. Only complaint was my whiskey sour tasted like whiskey and water
Went for the wing special on Wednesday. The food was great!
Best pub in Orangeville. Incredibly friendly staff. Super spacious. Excellent menu. And accommodating of kids Parking: Loads of soacious parking Kid-friendliness: So nice w kids. Will bring out their food first. Sometime have cllouring activities. Nice high chairs. Staffs so friendly with kids
Great service, excellent food. Wonderful visit.
Went on Wednesday was half of wings. Good stuff.
Fantastic food and ambient.
Best deep fried pickle spears ever batter is great
Garbage. Be prepared to be ripped off
Great food always fantastic !! Well done !!
Service was awesome and food was great. Lots of menu choices too. Will definitely go again
Food was overcooked. Waitress didnt listen to any requests we made to our meal. Both dinners were inedible. Couldnt even get my drink order proper. Will never go back or recommend to anyone. Food
If one is to have chicken wings and beer, there is no other place to go.
Although they have gastropub in the name, inside it doesnt feel like they are going for the trendy angle other pubs in Orangeville are going for. I have enjoyed the wings, and the curry sauce they serve with the chips is delicious. To me this is a basic pub, solid in each category.
Great place, cute staff
Went there for dinner had oysters, korean chicken bites and their prime rib. Extemely dissapointing and overpriced food with no taste and wasnt even cooked properly. The chicken bites were probably bought frozen from Walmart and tosses in some sauce just 6 tiny bites for $16 plus tax. You can buy a whole meal for that price elsewhere. Their oysters were nice but 6 for $20 are you kidding me. The last and the worst and I specially took a photograph of this the prime rib asked medium rare came undercooked rare the meat was oozing blood and there was no sear looked like it was tossed in the pan and taken out just like that. Mashed potatoe with the potatoe skin in it and the raddish was rotten and tastes like fungi. The muffin that came was burnt didnt eat it. $32 for all that and the food wasnt even propery served we got no dinner plates nothing. How can a restaurant serve such food and keep going is beyong my comprehension.
Food was great definitely best wings in Orangeville and cant beat wendesday night half price wings
Great food and staff!
We stopped in late for supper, but the food they gave us was very good, much better than we expected. The service was distracted and the ambience is of a typical dive bar. Still, a good experience overall.
Consistently good food and great service.
The prime rib is amazing!
They make a butternut squash soup that should win awards for how fantastic it is!
Excellent pub, great fun on March 17th.
Tasty calamari & the best prime rib sandwich ever had!
Best hamburger Ive had in a long while! Fresh, flavorful....yum!! And our server....wow! She was tending bar, AND serving tables and yet, didnt miss a beat! Super efficient. Even though she was very busy, she managed to take the time to smile, be pleasant and made excellent suggestions.
Is a excellent place. I would recommend this pub 100 percent. Service was really good. Food
The service was great but the food was not good and was so Over priced
Food and service are amazing! A must try if in the Orangeville area. I have never been disappointed here.
Great fish and chips
Dropped in for lunch w spouse and a friend. The service was good for a busy place with limited staff on Tuesday lunch. Food was exceptional, we are planning to return soon.7 Parking: Parked in front by door
We ordered wings and deep fried pickles...they were the best pickles ive had in year and the wings couldnt be better we cant wait to go back Kid-friendliness: My niece came and loved her food
Busy little place, food arrival was abit slow. Friends food was good they got nachos and a hatter burger. My fish and chips however seemed to have been forgotten in the deep frier..way over done. But the staffs service was awesome, friendly and attentive.
Just like a Regular old pub. Not too fancy been around for years.
Great spot! I got fish and chips and am blown away at the freshness of my meal. Would reccomend the spot!
Loved the vibe. Great service
Atmosphere was nice, and the food was decent, but the server didnt seem interested in being there.
Always love going to the Hatter. Jo is amazing, shes the best and luv her! Great service and you feel like family;) Brie wrap, lobster linguine and oysters are my personal favorites! Food
We sat on the patio and it was great. Our server was super friendly and the food was delicious
I had a really good time! The food was great and the waitress was amazing!
While being in the restaurant for an hour our server only spoke to us twice. It took 5 minutes for us to be seated despite the restaurant being nearly empty, over 15 minutes for them to take our order and around 40 minutes for us to get food! There was next to no customers in the restaurant. But what really soured our mood was when our server DEMANDED that we pay a tip, one of my friends hit no tip on the machine and our server told our other friend that he has to tip more because he didnt tip. They made our whole table feel terribly uncomfortable. I understand that tipping can be important for servers, but when you barely meet the bare minimum requirements, its really hard to find a reason to tip. Will not be going back.
some of the most awful service i ve had!! after waiting around 5 minutes to be seated, another 15 for our order to be taken then 45 mins for the food to be served, and finally another 30 for us to eat we were spoke two TWICE!!! Those two conversations were to seat us and take our order. after being given the bare minimum when it comes to serve and choosing not to give a tip, i was then met with an attitude then my group was told with the most disgusting attitude you need to tip more because he didn t tip which made my group very uncomfortable and angry. Like how can someone in the service industry be so rude and demanding? i would really hope the other servers are a lot better at they re jobs.
This place is in need of a makeover
Great food, friendly staff! Inventive appetizer dishes like Yorkshire pudding with roast beef, mushrooms, onions and gravy. Sizzlen shrooms with garlic and green onions, and raw oysters !
Service and atmosphere were great couldnt fault it. Little English Pub, food.....not so good. Im told by locals its usually pretty good hence Ive not gone into too much detail, we all have bad days. Food
Traditional pub/eatry Staff were pleasant and efficient! Do forget to tip your servers plz Vegetarian options: I am keto and found something I can ha e without breaking it.
Awesome Fish and Chips
Banned for ordering a coffee, speaking nice to patrons &or, bar goers, feeding a homeless stranger out my car, offering them, water, shelter and food, with, fresh bluebird pizza, and!; Recieved: door locking &!, backpack couldve been stolen. 0/100 hospitality. My reactions 100/100 hospitality. Also, great fish n chips by, Chef Bruce and, maybe, Greg too . Get Connie to pay me please @uknow where. Hatter on the other hand, I will be looking forward if, welcome to coming back. Also, I!, NEED!, my 2$ tip back. if I may pick it up on, or, after: June 22 - future, anytime! Thanks!
Tried this pub for the first time today and we had a great experience. Service was amazing and food was excellent. Shared a spinach dip to start and the kid has a chicken ceaser salad, wife had the fish and chips and I had the hatter burger with fries and gravy ( mmm dark gravy). All in all 4/5 would recommend and we will be back!
Hostess was great, but our party waited over 20 minutes to be simply asked about drinks, over 1 hour to be served our food, and our waitress neglected to cater to us throughout the entire night- We weren t asked a single time if everything was ok, or if we needed anything. Basic serving etiquette was not met, and over 3 hours of our night were wasted due to poor service. Also, 2 tables that were seated after us were served before us. Yikes.
First time coming in. Great vibe, service, and food. Lots of menu options. My fiancé and I had the coconut curry and let me tell you...ABSOLUTELY DELICIOUS! Our server was great and greeted us with a smile every time she came to the table. Awesome Place.
Good service,good food!
This is our favourite patio lunch place in Orangeville, the food and service are always great and budget friendly. This place offers way more than a regular pub fair - a lot of items on the menu are pretty gourmet and as a celiac I love that they are GF. My favourite is potato crusted halibut. My friends love their Mediterranean haddock.
Always wonderful food and service with a smile !
We usually dont have much expectation for the food at a pub, but this one sure surprised us. Great food, my wife love the halibut (shes picky). Good service from our server Allie. We will definitely come back next time.
Went for dinner for the first time yesterday. Had the $2 oysters and a few other apps. Server was very friendly & efficient even thought it was super busy. All the food & drinks were so good. Highly recommend & will be back.
We were just driving through Orangeville on a Saturday afternoon and picked The Hatter by chance for lunch. Amazing service, amazing food! Thank you for for the great experience Food : 5/5
Very good service and the food is amazing Wednesday half-price chicken wings yum yum
Enjoyed our visit. Very nice menu variety....a pleasant surprise. Reasonably priced given the market these days. I do recommend of you are in Orangeville
Went into the Mad Hatter at the orangeville location. Right off the bat there was karaoke which isnt that big of a deal if it didnt ring my ear drums from being so loud the entire time. The servers were awful and didnt collect the empty glasses when getting refills. Ordered the hatter burger with fries and the cheesy garlic bread. The garlic bread turned out to be more of a cheesy bread than garlic cheese and the bread was burnt. The Prime rib burger was so dry that I couldnt finish the burger and the fries tasted like something you would buy from walmart. They were over cooked to the point that it was breaking apart from picking up a fry.
Slow service. Mediocre food. And the manager likes to talk about staff in front of customers- completely unprofessional.
Not great. Very overpriced for basic pub grub. Everything seems burnt from deep fryer oil not being changed enough. Sat in the bar and atmosphere for my wife and I wasn t great. Calamari and wings were super super greasy. Looked closed from outside. Bartender was was nice though
First thing I noticed was the Irish, Scottish and British flags and a leprechaun sign all a mixed bag decor in this place. The next was a bunch of locals who looked like they were from the same family. We knew we stepped into the wrong place when the order for a salmon bowl with seasonal vegetables arrived with this places version of Korean kimchi, a couple of sliced carrots a random slice of lettuce and a meeger slab of store bought frozen salmon, that looked as if it was purchased at a local discount store. When one of us asked about the lack of vegetables in the salmon bowl, the cook and the waitress said that s what it is, even though the meal description said it included seasonal vegetables. We could hear the waitress trash talk one of us to the cooking staff she didnt hold back with her tongue lashes about us for being asked a simple question. then when we asked for a manager, a short angry little man came out ready for a fist fight . No mention of accommodation or assistance with a request to provide more vegetables. The cultural misappropriation of what I think they are trying to pass off as an Irish restaurant is just tacky, the food resembles a cross between a fry truck on the side of the road and a mix of home cooked mash purchased from the local Walmart .
I love this place. The food is great, the service is amazing, and I dont remember the last time I enjoyed eating out before this. Definitely one of those cozy places thatll make you feel welcome and wanting to come back! Also, the decor is awesome. Made the place feel homely.
First time in Orangeville and at the Hatter. Excellent place. Wish they were in our town.
The restaurant wasnt packed yet it took forever to get our food. The spinach and pita was good but pita on 2 orders were burnt so they replaced it upon request. 2 orders of lobster linguine had barely any lobster and and no taste of wine seemed to be just an alfredo sauce. Wine on their menu was not available when they only serve 3 different bottles. Their oysters tasted good but they were all tiny choice size like youd get in Toronto for buck a shuck. The waitress should have saod they only had extra small oysters being sold at full price.
Great ambiance and unique and tasty food.
Great place, great food. Had the Seafood Linguine which was creamy and delicious. Highly recommend
Our first visit was about a year ago, but definitely not our last! The meals are very tasty. Service is friendly and prompt. Between us on this visit, we had both perogie dishes, the beef dip, haddock sandwich, caesar salad, and all three desserts. Even my fussy teenager loved the food. We go back regularly. Parking: Small lot immediately by the restaurant. One handicapped parking spot with a ramp up to the walk. The walkway itself is a very high step up, so if you have any even slight mobility issues, it can be a challenge to step up without walking to the handicapped spot to go up there. If a vehicle is in the spot, this access may be blocked.
Love oyster night and the best wings in town
Five of us visited for the first time. Ordered nachos, wings, a sandwich and fish and chips. Everyone was happy with their food. Really enjoyed the fries.
Went here tonight after driving past for years to be very pleasantly surprised. The food was delicious with amazing chip truck style fries and the staff and service were great too. Thought it was reasonably priced for what you got, my only complaint is the fish and chips came with only a tiny amount of slaw and I would have enjoyed more. Will definitely be back.
Delicious food, great service
Cold, dry and bad portion size on the Fish and chip.
Great food and amazing staff!! Highly recommended
Love the place food is great and service
I absolutely love everything about this place. The staff are fantastic and are quick to remember you. Highly recommend.
Great food, service, watched some football.
Wicked
Bring back the 3 30 to 5 30 special
Disappointing always a regular at the Hatter but todays experience was way below norm. New menu WITH new prices and the elimination of half price apps?? Service was so so and taste of the food has been degraded. Wings still good and the deep fried pickles are amazing. Besides that sorry not a good experience. Expected more.
Great food and awesome service. Will be back again
Good times at the Hatter! Great owner and staff.
Great atmosphere, Amazing staff and Great food!
Really yummy oysters and salmon salad, good service, nice patio
Great beers on Tap. Smittys and other good local Suds as well. Cindy, Michelle and Jo are super cool Bartenders. Nice diverse crowd, good music, good food. Nice patio as well. Mark your calendar for Lobster Fest .. Awesome
The best oysters!!
Went here on a whim because it was close by but oh my god the WINGS! Both my fiancé and I thought they were the best wings we ve ever had ! I don t even like wings but I want to go back just to get the ones they make ! And the hot wings are actually really hot lol nice for a change ! Highly recommend !!
Ordered the salmon power bowl via SkipTheDishes - pic and description looked great- kimchi, seven grain blend salmon, veg. Received a piece of salmon on a handful of field greens. For 22 dollars. Very misrepresented.
It was a good meal
This is my favourite restaurant. On my last visit I enjoyed liver and onions. Thoroughly wonderful evening. The wait staff are considerate and helpful.
No food menu flys everywhere and cheapest item is an $8 soup of the day horrible experience
So, it would have been a 4.5 star but a 4 would have been unjustified. The overall was great but it was quite slow to get the food - which was quite tasty! Fish & chips was on point and the oysters was solid. Definitely a revisit is in order Parking: Ample space at the time visited
Really great service and a really good menu. This place however indicates GF foods on their menu, which may be GF but NOT SAFE for Celiacs. I think that is misleading because there is cross contamination. The server was very quick to indicate that it is not Celiac Safe. I feel they should remove that claim from their menus.
Absolutely loved the service, and the atmosphere food was great ..chicken wings were big with good flavors
We decided to go to the Hatter partially because we had gone there before for a brief stop before going to Forage, for dinner but mostly because we heard that the lineups for the local rib festival were exceedingly long. Little we know... Service started well enough, with a seemingly attentive server. The place wasnt busy (a few couples outside in the patio area - where we were sitting, and 2 or 3 smaller parties inside). However, our meal took an extremely long time to get to our table (though we were approached twice for more drink orders and the other tables got their meals long before us, even though we ordered long before them). At the end of it all, the amount of time it took to get our food was well over 45 minutes if not over an hour. I completely understand delays - they are a part of life for a busy restaurant - but not when its barely at a quarter of its capacity. In fact, it felt like our order wasnt even submitted to the kitchen until much later on. The other server who was working outside kept making sidelong glances at our table, but, again, nothing was done (even though we kept asking after our food). At the end of it all, there wasnt even a real apology. No recompense whatsoever - and the icing on the cake was the gratuity already included for parties of 6 or more on the bill. The food was decent - which was small sliver of a silver lining - but it certainly didnt make up for the delay (which, frankly, affected our plans for the rest of the night). Hopefully this is a one-off. As folks from out of town who enjoyed previous sojourns to other restaurants in the area (which were great experiences), we were very disappointed in this place and will probably not go back.
Super cute place, staff was great and OMG the spinach dip is incredible!
Neat menu. Nice staff
Great food great service Worth the stop if your in the area. Thank you hatter staff
Always great food and personable staff.
Amazing food
Overall it was great service and food was awesome.
One of the best pints. Good friendly service.
Nice
Good for drinks
Service was slow
The fish and chips, the chili and cereal salad combo.
Always liked here.. but I think theyve really upped the prices to make up for covid.. and honestly its just not worth it anymore..
Great service. Great pub type food. Spinich dip was amazing! Very clean, a bit dated but worth the trip.
A heart warming experience Tried the mussels freshly bought from PEI and man oh man L. O. V. E. D it! The white wine sauce it was drenched in, is all you need or so I thought until I paired it with some beer (I was recommended to try The Harp by the lovely waitress) and its my new favourite. Tried the Lobster Linguine (the Lobster was a tiny bit hard to find) but the sauce made up for it. The Chef is amazing and I will be going back for the once-a-month karaoke night The Hatter is a beautiful combo of history and good food and therefore, a must try if you visit Orangeville. Dont forget to tip your waitress well especially the one whose name I wish Id asked :*
In the summer, my family from Orangeville and I (from Toronto) enjoyed a delicious dinner in The Hatter. My fish and chips were just as I would want to taste if I was visiting Scotland or Ireland again. The interior decor of The Hatter was reminiscent of my travels and I was happy with the ambience in this restaurant and in the bar area. The service was too slow for our liking but it gave us longer to enjoy being there with each other. I was also happy to see the iconic British red telephone booth at the front of the The Hatters building and, of course, had to have my photo taken there. I was happy with this whole British/Irish restaurant experience and will definitely return there to dine with my family.
Never been here but I walked in when it was busy and full... the ladies were friendly and fun, very welcoming. Food was good, highly recommended Service
I ordered honey garlic wings and fries as well as a caesar salad. The service was fantastic and the food was great. Definitely worth giving a chance
A good selection of beer on tap, platters served to our Ball team was exceptional.
Cant beat a great pint of Guinness
Good food and live music! Paired with a bottle of half priced wine on thursdays!
We always stop here when passing through Orangeville. Amazing food & great service!
Menu is very limited. The restaurant was clean, the service was okay, the waitress though was nice. It just took a long time to take our order. The food was okay, a salad on Notcho chips.
Although the food does take some time to come out, it is always fresh, tasty and full of flavour ! Meals of the day are a bomb, and their burgers yummy !
Great food great service
I would not recommend this place to any one. We went there for dinner today Monday the 27 of September. Ordered a couple of drinks and were reading the menus when a mouse appeared in the bar area. The staff tried to capture it but after a couple of laps around the bar area it disappeared under a bank of chairs. One of the staff tried to catch him in a carry out container and made the comment that he had been out in the patio earlier.we left without ordering any food. THEY OBVIOUSLY H AVE A RODENT PROBLEM.
Awesome. Great food .
The food was good and lots of good choices. But the service was slow. Lots of staff walking around but it seemed we were ignored. Took awhile to get menus and then forever to get a bill. Will definitely give it another try.
Good post covid experience. Good food and good bar atmosphere.
Excellent food and service with CoVid protocols in place.
Our group of 5 had lunch. Everyones was great from what I heard my friends say. Tasty, fresh lunches, crispy fries were excellently done. Pasta dish was very good. I had Thai Squash soup and Corned Beef sandwich. Both were excellent.
The Hatter provided a great atmosphere with spot on service for a tasty and hearty lunch for the family. It is definitely a restaurant we shall be going back to when in Orangeville.
We love The Hatter! Fantastic pub food at a good price. Very quick service too. Good atmosphere. Its my go to pub in Orangeville.
Amazing place to eat. Fantastic staff. All the food is delicious. Excellent selection of beer on tap
