A restaurant all about family!
Met our friends for lunch. First time at this restaurant. Staff were so amazing..food was good. Definitely come back. Thanks to all staff for such a pleasant time at your restaurant.
There's a reason this is the most popular place in orillia. Whether you're ordering pick up or sitting in, the staff is honestly the sweetest ever. The food tastes like having a Sunday breakfast with family. Big portions, great food & amazing staff.
Great place, highly recommend you bring your family and friends. The food was enjoyable, the staff were friendly,’and the prices were fantastic. We all ordered off the breakfast menu and it was exactly as we ordered. Again great place.
The food was excellent. Hot and a lot off it. The server was very attentive. She made sure that she came back to check on us for coffee refills. All the customers seemed to be regulars. It was great to see! Thank you
The food here has always been fantastic for a greasy spoon type diner. Great for those hungover Saturday mornings. Be aware there is typically a 30hr wait for a table during peak breakfast/brunch time. Atmosphere scored low as the booth seats are not screwed down and the tables are free standing pedestal tables. When we went to leave the seats came apart and my nephew fell on the floor of a packed diner. My tea ended up spilled all over the table and the vinegar fell over and poured all over our coats. No one came to check up on us or offer to help us clean OR offer me a refill on my tea(free refills with purchase). The ownership has changed hands and even though it’s still the Hill Family - it’s just not the same experience as it had been for the past 3 decades. They also DO NOT have a kids menu. So be prepared to split plates for your young ones as the portions are HUGE.
Hills Maple Leaf Restaurant offers a charming dining experience that exceeds expectations. Upon entering, the cozy and clean atmosphere immediately sets the tone for a pleasant meal. The staff greets you with warm smiles and attentive service, making you feel right at home. Now, let's talk about the food. The pancakes are a standout, boasting a fluffy texture and mouthwatering flavor. Whether topped with maple syrup or paired with a side of crispy bacon, they are sure to satisfy even the most discerning pancake connoisseur. Moving on to the fish n chips, prepare to be impressed. The fish is perfectly battered and fried to golden perfection, while the chips are crispy on the outside and tender on the inside. Each bite is a delightful combination of crunch and flavor that leaves you wanting more. And who can forget about the mozzarella sticks? These cheesy delights are a crowd-pleaser, featuring a gooey center encased in a crispy breadcrumb coating. Dip them in marinara sauce for an extra burst of flavor that will have your taste buds dancing with joy. Overall, Hills Maple Leaf Restaurant offers not only delicious food but also exceptional service and ambiance. Whether you're stopping by for breakfast, lunch, or dinner, you're guaranteed a memorable dining experience that will keep you coming back for more.
My friend and I went for breakfast this morning, and it’s safe to say this is one of my new favourite restaurants. The atmosphere is so retro and pleasant, and the staff were warm and welcoming, it was like being treated like family. The food was absolutely delicious and the price was cheap. I only wish I didn’t live hours away because I’d go here all the time!
Food was great. We shared the fish & chips (with poutine) and sandwiches. Everything we ordered was delicious! I saw other patrons all day breakfast platters and it looked like generous portions and delicious as well. The poutine gravy was thick and delicious with melted shredded cheese and the fish was crispy. Sandwiches were great too! The star of the show though was my strawberry rhubarb pie with ice cream. Best pie I have ever had!!! Service was also lovely - great small town diner vibes!
Came for the sandwiches, stayed for BIG ZAAAAA!!!!!!!!!
Love it here
Meh
Food quality has really gone down hill over the years and the prices have doubled.
Hill s is my main stop in Orillia; the service is great and the food is delicious, have never had an issue with either; the homemade soups are flavourful and desserts are scrumptious
Great breakfast! I couldnt eat it all!
This place rocks! If you re looking for a Ma and Pa vibe and quality food with more than fair portions, this is the place! New go to place when I m in Orillia!
This Restaurant is small outdated and not fancy, but the food we had was large portions, delicious and brought back the feeling of like home cook meals. We will be back the next time we are in Orilla. Food
Food was plentiful and tasty. Reasonably priced and lots. Service was spot on.
Good food and friendly staff
Old school, but they do it well.
Great as usual
maybe this place is more known for breakfast but definitely dont come here for dinner! soup - so salty that you just laugh roast beef - so overcooked and dry, you need to drown it with gravy just to swallow steak - requested medium and it was well done veal cutlet - you need to drown it in the marinara sauce you know something is wrong when the best part of your meal is the french fries...
This place is a must visit if youre going to Orillia! Great food, friendly staff, and great pricing.
Classic diner. Always perfect. Broasted chicken is amazing
Best place since 1926. Is always great for any meal. People always remember faces. Come visit and have a great time! If you cant find something good to eat here go kick rocks!
Awesome Food Everytime
Good value and good service. The food is standard breakfast fare; well prepared.
Best Breakfast I ve had in a long time.Bacon was so thick.Cheap to great place to go.
Great little family restaurant.
Always amazing service and friendly faces amazing food too!!
Great breakfast food.
Awesome food! Debbie made us feel right at home! go eat here!
We go in for breakfast alot service and food is great but we went in for dinner we both had fish and chips with gravy on the fries. My gravy was barely enough to cover 6 to 8 fries waitresses are all to busy standing around talking and are loud dont think we will ever come back for dinner any more
Went to hills last night for dinner around 4pm. We got a banquet burger, cheese burger, added gravy to the fries. And 2 ice teas and we were charged $55. We waited for the waitress to come over to the table, she was too pre occupied eating here poutine at the front counter. We didn t argue the bill as we were in a rush to get back to the job site. I ve been to hills over 100x and this was by far the worst experience. The food was good even tho we were over charged. The service was absolutely horrible, it Doesn t make me want to go back. Not for $55 for burgers and fries
Everything was wonderful except for the walls. They echoed everyones speech till you couldnt hear yourself think. The food was fantastic. The waitresses were so busy and so talented and quick. The place was full and they cleared it out in no time. Great place to eat. Try to go when its not too busy and the noise wont be so bad.
This is a must try food was hot and delicious. Friendly staff and amazing selection brought me back to the old days Parking: Kinda tight spots but it was packed when we went
Soup is way too salty hard to eat. Hair in my sandwich. Cooks don t wear hair or beard nets. Wouldn t recommend. Prices have increased and smaller portions.
Great breakfast and servers make you feel welcome.
Went for lunch with my dad. We both had the beef barley soup. It was so good! Homemade, hot and big portion it was a meal all on its own. Service was great. Zero complains.
Lovely place for breakfast, lunch or dinner.
We stopped for dinner on the way to Ottawa, and found it on Google. We had a good dinner, a bowl of soup of the day, beef and barley, quite consistent, between soup and cream, as well as very tasty. Then the chicken dish, 2 pieces, with potatoes and coleslaw, everything was very good.
Absolutely amazing every part
An Orillia institution. Great food. Great service !
Lovely staff, great food!
Came in with a huge appetite after doing some Jeep off roading in the area. Perfect little spot we were treated like family.
Best breakfast in town, staff are always great
Great home cooked food!
What I like about Hills is the family atmosphere. The food is yummy and the staff are very friendly! I like that it isnt expensive either !
Your dishwasher looked at mother sideways
Always friendly, servings are very large .breakfasts are always excellent!
Hills hasnt changed at all over the years witch the local community love about the place, but why change a good thing..
Our server thought heavy sarcasm with a smile was somehow charming. It became quickly annoying. Food (their everyday breakfast special) was average.
Went for dinner hear was told this place had good reviews was I mistaken ordered Salisbury steak and mash potatoes and gravy and a coffee first the coffee came it was cold then my meal showed up with no gravy called waitress back she took plate back to kitchen added gravy brought plate back went to start eating my meal and it was cold potatoes where cold meat over cooked and vegetables where not cooked called waitress back said my meal was cold took my meal once again back to kitchen brought same meal back heated in microwave gravy still clumpy and vegetables still hard most disgusting meal Ive ever had and I eat out alot would not recommend anybody eat hear totally disgusting food Ive ever eaten on top of that my girlfriend ordered a green tea and they couldnt even get that straight brought Luke warm water and wrong tea she had cold fries and over cooked eggs if you plan on eating hear dont most unpleasant and disgusting food we have ever had
I hate this truck stop. Its a time machine to an era of impolite waitresses that are just missing the cigarette to smash into your food that is of highschool cafeteria quality. UPDATE: it blows my mind how busy it is in there with how you just deep fry all your bacon, home fries and sausage, and who is salting everything but the fries, absolutely madness. I gave it a chance again as I heard there was a new co owner involved and figured they may have input, nope, its literally worse. Kid-friendliness: The amount of people they pack into such a small and busy environment, is, Im sorry not kid friendly. They are susceptible to running waitresses with hot food people turning corners. There is no actual space in the building. I recommend elsewhere if youre going with children.
A return to form for classic diner fare.
Went for breakfast and the home fries were terrible. Old grease needs to be changed. Asked for bacon well done so they deep fried it. Terrible breakfast will never go back. I will go to friends top of laclie st, Hills has really gone down hill.
Excellent value. Wholesome, home cooked meal.
Just a great friendly atmosphere with very nice people working there.
Good food,great service!!
Service was very good and the food was homestyle and comforting.
Excellent Food and service ....all the ti.the time . Sincerely Gord Launchbury C.I.M Pmgr Food : 5/5 |
My favourite spot in orillia
Very odd experience Went for lunch with my brother We both ordered hamburger & fries. The server bright our hamburgers but no fries..... Told us she would bring them later. Find shed our hamburgers then the fries came smothered in gravy but we asked for gravy on the side (seperate bowl). Asked for a refill on our pop but was forgotten until we were ready to leave. I do eat out a lot and Ive never heard of a restaurant serving a hamburger and telling the patrons please wait 10 minutes until the french fries are cooked
Awesome food. Awesome stuff. Great atmosphere. Food
The best little restaurant in town I love the breakfast
Such a classic spot. Comfort food go to. Been eating there since I can remember. Breakfast-lunch and dinner meals. Best bacon in town. Friendly staff and lots of parking.
Was extremely disappointed in service today...arrived at 1:25pm...was refused seating despite websit saying they were closing at 3pm and Restaurant was 1/2 empty. We were not the only disappointed customers that were turned away...apparently staff decided the restaurant was closing at 2pm. HAPPY New Years
Food would be so much better if they changed the type of cooking oil they use...it tastes off or rancid. Likely canola oil that was originally created for using as a motor oil. I do love the old fashioned feel to the place though, and I think the food would be deliscious if they made this one simple change then I would go back!
great food great service everytime
Absolutely love Hill s restaurant! I have memories of eating here as a child, and much like the family who owns this place, a lot of people have been coming here for generations! They do have new owners now (but it s the same family name running the show!!) AND they are just as good as ever! We decided to have dinner here tonight. Which is unusual for us, as this is usually our go to breakfast place! However, the roast beef dinner special was priced well and fabulous! My son had the chicken nuggets and fries, pretty basic, but good option for a kids meal! The cheeseburger was great, with lettuce, tomato, onions, and pickles - all very crisp and fresh! Dollar fries here are the greatest thing since sliced bread! Highly recommend this place! Thanks Hill s for many years of great food, and even better service that created so many memories around your tables! Congratulations to the newest owners Mike & Chris Hill! Parking: Parking right out front! Hill s can be very busy at times, but there s usually always a spot! There is also a Dollarama right next door with lots of parking! Kid-friendliness: Very kid friendly atmosphere! You ll get crayons and colouring pages for the little ones too! Plastic cups for their drinks that with a lid and straw which any parent can appreciate! Wheelchair accessibility: It is wheelchair accessible, however it is a little tight in the dining room!
Had my 1st date with my wife many years ago here. Have moved away but was in town stopped in still a great place!
Absolutely the best breakfast place in town. The staff are always super friendly and on the ball and we love supporting a local, family-owned business!
We went on grand reopening. The Roast Beef dinner was mediocre at best. Mashed potatoes OK. Everything else bland. Roast over cooked. Yorkshire was like a rubber puck. This is a restaurant trying to be what its not. I should have stuck to the cheeseburger and fries.
My wife and I visited this place because of a suggestion from a local. We got very basic breakfasts, but the meals were good, portions were generous and the staff treated you like family! Best Ive been treated at a restaurant! We finished off our meal by ordering a slice of cherry cheese cake that was to die for, and the portion was so big two adults and your kids could help! If we are ever in the area again we will be back! I recommend this place! Its small so you may have to wait at peak times but its worth it! Kid-friendliness: Sweet older lady as our waitress. Like being at grandmas house. Genuinely a sweet kind caring lady
Great place to have breakfast. Food was good and staff super friendly. Bottomless delicious coffee included with breakfast special 11:06$
What a hoot! Certainly dated inside, but the energy and attitude of the staff was great! It seems like they have a lot of fun and are free to be themselves. Like these ladies don t mind a good cuss word here and there, ya know? ;)
Always busy excellent food and prices and great servers
The food here used to be delicious ! Over the years the quality and portion sizes have really gone downhill. Sad to see this orillia gem starting to loose its charm ..
It is great, sometimes a little loud. Only because it is not a big restaurant.
Refused to serve us at 11.30. We were a group of 6. Its 2023. Food
Rude service. The staff refused to acknowledge us waiting with a baby. Even after a table was free after the diners left, the waitress said theres no table available and refused to serve us.
Amazing place! Couldn t have asked for somewhere better for a family day lunch. Proper old school diner atmosphere, busy but worth the wait. Already planning our next trip! Kid-friendliness: Went the extra mile by giving y daughter her drink in a to-go cup.
I just paid 9.00 for just a chicken salad sandwich no lettuce tomato or anything. Is this correct. One year ago price was 6.50 has food gone up that much in this diner???
We had lunch today, the food was excellent, soup was fresh and delicious and the burgers are like old fashioned burgers. Definitely recommend this place. Staff was overly friendly.
Just visited again for the first time in almost 10 years and not a thing has changed! The interior is pretty much identical (which is nice since its always been a cozy atmosphere) and the food was fantastic! Best breakfast Ive had in years. Friendly servers, and relatively short wait time (Especially considering how much food youre getting for the price)
Always the best
good coffee, breakfast, burgers, and amazing gravy
This is a classic small dinner experience. The food was authentic, home-cooked dishes served by the friendliest and most accommodating staff. My wife cant eat anything deep fried or heavily oiled, and our server made a point to suggest options where others would simply let us figure it out on our own. While sitting and eating you can hear how many regulars frequent the restaurant. When they walk in theyre greeted like family, and from the sounds of laughter you know its not their first time. I highly recommend this place for a great meal, and to uplift your spirits.
We had breakfast this morning - old family-run diner experience. Very friendly staff, fair prices and delicious food. The portions were big too! We will definitely be back
Good breakfast place fast efficient service thanks
Great breakfast place
Hills is always a good choice for breakfast. Big delicious portions that dont break the bank. The staff are always quick with a smile and friendly greeting.
Love the breakfast and the staff!
Great place with good food and a classic greasy spoon atmosphere. Priced perfect.
Loud talking but then that means everyone is comfortable atmosphere. Families and singles together and very comfy.
First time back in 30 years and was like the first time.
Simple decor, nothing fancy, but the essentials. I like the simple atmosphere. Breakfast was very good with excellent portions, you wont starve. Their bacon was well cooked but not too crisp or fatty. Eggs and home fries were well cooked and plentiful. Coffee was not a separate charge and a bottomless cup.
This is one of many great mom and pop restaurants in Orillia. The portions are generous and the soup that my wife had was fantastic
Love the food from here its always so yummy every time I go . Its nice to see familiar faces when going in . Have been going here since I was just a little girl Parking: There is parking available as long as its not packed in there
Ive been searching for the perfect breakfast diner in Orillia and thanks to a tip, found it! Good brekkie with the big sausage not the little wimpy ones. Hilarious fun service too.
Greasy place, Horrible experience, stood there half hr after being told we were up next ..then was told to leave the table of 6 hadnt even been serviced yet... customer of 20 Years will never be back, was told actually to never come back from Jessica & Jocelyn the daughters of the owner , made my 2 year old nephew cry
Food was poor
Small place, open early even on Sunday. Bacon and eggs were good diner fare, a bit overdone. Good, friendly service. Easy to get to, ample free parking.
Delicious food! Breakfast is my favourite. Great prices. Worth the wait if there s a bit of a line. Line tends to move pretty quickly if there is one. Update- now only open for breakfast and lunch. While the food is delicious, I pick items like breakfast or sandwiches or their beef dinner for fresh taste. Their homemade tomato soup tastes like canned tomatoes not as pleasant.
Great food but they hang up on you if they don t wanna answer the phone.
The service used to be fast and efficient but the new staff are super slow and dont care. I kept seeing people get up and leave because of no service. Wow straight down HILL!
This place is a hidden gem of a diner! The cheeseburgers are amazing. Homemade Smashburger.
Fantastic Great breakfast Fabulous super friendly staff Added to my favourites Food : 5/5 |
When we visited it was very busy, must have been because they offer incredible food cooked to perfection, very friendly service. All of the waitresses were warm and fun
The second time I have been there and they did not disappoint. Fair price, great food and friendly servers. The place ia small, but packed which can only mean its good!! Home cooked meals at its finest! What can one expect when they walk into a restaurant and its packed ? Good food! Thats what! What wasnt expected was the fast service and steaming hot food! As recommended, we ordered the broasted chicken and liver n onions. Simple, stick to your ribs comfort food that hits home, and without killing the wallet. Hills resteraunt on memorial ave was all of the above. Its been a very long time since Ive been impressed with a restaurant but Hills had it all.
Their fish is made with a white fish so its a little bit less firm..
super yum except i asked for scrambled eggs and they gave me an omelet esque thing. still good tho.
Love the old diner atmosphere. Quick service and delicious breakfast. Kid-friendliness: Kids loved it Food : 5/5 |
Very busy restaurant. We waited 10 minutes to be seated, they may have been short staffed though. The servers are very nice, but take a while to get to you as they are so busy. The food is decent and well priced.
Fantastic food good home cooking great service. Have been going there for 6years never disappointed. 09/23 quality of food has slipped a bit didnt enjoy my usual breakfast , was wandering if they have changed their chef ? . But everything else is the same .
Great food and service, just expect a wait for a table on a Saturday or Sunday morning.
Service is fast even though we tried to phone in a take out order (with no one answering the phone). Food is consistently perfect!
If your looking for home cooking you cant go wrong here, large portion and great prices.
Quaint old style mom and pop place. Locals go there so its good. Enjoyed a simple bacon eggs breakfast Parking: Lots of parking out back and side lot
Old fashioned family diner! An old Orillia gem!
I tried to go here for breakfast one morning with my wife and kids, we stood at the front waiting to be seated but everyone ignored us. Two waitresses stood 5ft from us carrying on a conversation and even after I waved at them to get their attention for when they were done they just continued to ignore us. We waited standing there for 15 minutes with no one acknowledging us there. Will definitely not be back there as this was our first time trying and definitely our last. Do better!!
Amazing staff and great diner fare!
Pros: - large portions at very reasonable prices - tasty food, freshly-made - very friendly staff - free parking Cons: - very small dining area, with limited windows (can make someone feel claustrophobic)
All home cooked meals real hamburgers no additives great for lunch or dinner reasonal prices friendly servers
When the food arrived, had the hungry man breakfast, well, you better be hungry. Amazing food, bottomless coffee, excellent
Mom and Pop kinda place with great food and generous portions. The servers were great, and very friendly.
So they close at 3. Got there at 225 they said no service the grill is closed thats ridicules. The service has just gotten worse over the years. I stopped ordering bacon because its so hard it could cut your mouth. There is one blond waitress there that must be related because she is terrible at it. And to turn customers away 35 minutes before you close is just wrong. Dont want my business? No worries you wont get it anymore. I suggest Fiends on laclie st. New owners good food good service everthing hills use to be.
Excellent
Food, service, selection always yummy
Hills is a long-time Orillia staple. The food is great! The bacon was thicker than what I remember being served here when I was younger. The staff was warm and welcoming. Our server Randi was a delight! Even though they were in the middle of a rush, I felt that she gave us the due attention and was polite and friendly.
Nostalgic since 1926. Great looking Pies. Best bacon Ive had in 10 years. Greasy spoon 5*
Food was good, it seem to be a great place to see your nabours, very friendly place, great service.
10 out of 10 perfect square ice cubes
My friend & I have breakfast at Hills often, and it s always good, we love it!
Not as good as it used to be .more coast and less food on your plate.
Barb is great
Great breakfast in a vintage diner.
Had breakfast here and it was very good and reasonably priced...staff were friendly
My husband and I popped in for breakfast/lunch with my parents. The menu is so varied, so surely all tastes can be accommodated. All food and beverages arrived at the right temperature. Service by Tasha was great - on top of everything (drink refills, etc.) - with great personality. (Added bonus: My mother has declared that the broasted chicken is the most delicious. It never disappoints.)
Great Breakfast
Kind of old fashioned, and it has history. Not the prettiest place but where it matters food and price the place is excellent.
An old restaurant with great breakfasts and hard working staff. It might not be pretty, but its always good.
I had a toasted western, it was really good!!
Ordered fish and chips today my fish was still raw and the coleslaw was water.
Great food great service friendly budget friendly also love this little place
Parking: Plenty of parking
A good place for breakfast. Great service, good portions and great food.
Hours are whack and where is the new menu old menu still says you have dinner and lunch till 9pm lmao...
70 years young and younger
Great food and service. Real burgers too!
Excellent service and food!
My wife and I been to this restaurant many times and every time is amazing, we met the servers Jessica and randy incredible young ladies food is wow amazing. Today may14 2022 waitress Clara fast very pro, smile, amazing server , todays food was very tasty and highly recommend to everyone, today again we went to hills maple for breakfast and coffee love this restaurant.
Honestly Im completely frustrated with this restaurant. Ive been trying to call ahead for 2 hours today. They leave the phone off the hook and completely ignore takeout orders. I just got out of surgery the last thing I want to do is sit and wait around in a crowded restaurant for someone to answer the phone or even to acknowledge me as I come in the door. Foods good but the service is poor. Its too bad they come so highly recommended and you can hardly get in there. Its also not an accessible building so my disabled mother cannot get into the restaurant with her wheelchair because the doors are not to code and theres no automatic accessibility either. When I went in today to even order in person after trying for 2 hours to call ahead. I wasnt even acknowledged when I came in, they actually arent as busy as they usually are when I come in and this is the poorest service Ive ever experienced.
yumm
Always get the dollars!!
My compliments to the chef. Food was beyond gourmet
Always good.
Very good food
Fabulous breakfast! Excellent service! Reasonably priced.
Old style atmosphere with great service and food.
Had them a bunch for breakfast. Always great food for a great price. Very friendly staff.
As always, Hills is the best place around - especially for breakfast
Great service, friendly staff, clean, just all around pleasant atmosphere Parking: Handicap parking Kid-friendliness: Always welcome
Our favourite restaurant for breakfast and lunch. Very old-school decor which we love, cozy booths, super hard-working and friendly staff and their food is delicious and affordable! They are not open for dinner and I believe they close at 3pm. Be prepared to wait in a line up to get in and seated but very worth it.
Always good breakfast and friendly fast service
My family has been going here for decades. Food is great service is too. Just your bacon is way way to salty.
