The Shack Eatery in Orillia

Really had high hopes for this place as I am a fan of pulled pork and Im not sure what it was but it wasnt pulled pork. It was so disgusting that my family members didnt wanna eat it either.

Price has doubled in the last year. Used 15.99 for a plate and is now $25 for a jerk chicken plate. That is crazy expensive, not even in downtown Toronto they are charging this high of prices. My crew has Jerk chicken 3 times a week all over Ontario and never have we been charged $25 for a plate. Unacceptable

Food is better the average around here. 25 for a jerk chicken plate is ludacris. These guys are on queludes. This place is going down fast and they know it. Nobody can charge that, it s cheaper in downtown Toronto compared to up in orillia even though expenses are less than half. Greed has turned these guys backward. They ll be out of business soon

I wish we could have taken a picture before we devoured all our food. Great service, exceptional flavoured foods. 100% we will stop here again!

The food was fine, the only issue with this place is that they dont let you pay for your food until you pay their forced tip. So for that I give this place a 2 star. 3 for food, 1 for service and 1 star atmosphere.

The pulled pork and the jerk pork were amazing, as well as the cornbread and coleslaw. Just great food with great portions.

My partner and I have been fans of The Shack for many years. Unfortunately, we ve had a major problem. We hired The Shack to do the catering for our wedding in Orillia. We paid a deposit upwards of $700. Our wedding was scheduled for June 1st and we still haven t been able to get a hold of him. We ve called multiple times; when they answer we get the run around from his business partner. I m so throughly disappointed by this. Stealing someone s hard earned money is a terrible thing to do, especially during this time when food is expensive. It was on us to find a new caterer and pay almost double because of what happened. Disgusted by this.

If youre looking for a place with great smoked meats this is the go to place. The jerked pork sandwich was 10/10 beautifully smoked and bursting with flavor. Pulled pork poutine had that classic chip wagon crispy fries with layers of melted cheese , pulled pork and gravy. Owners were very nice and can tell they put love into the food they make , will definitely be coming back!

Great food and service. I recommend the coleslaw for sure. I had the jerk chicken and really enjoyed it.

I happened to be in Orillia today and had an urge for Jerk Chicken. I did a Google search and found The Shack. I decided to try and was recommended that I try the Jerk Chicken and Ribs. I wont bash you but only say this. You can do better! The Jerk Chicken was black but no kick to it... The ribs. Were a bit rubbery and way too much Sauce. Cornbread was good. I may try again with the Jerk Pork and am hoping it has some proper kick to it

Owner was amazing. Portions were way too huge for just little old me so he let me have a few wings just to try! I was thoroughly impressed taste just like Jamaica! Will definitely splurge and get the whole platter next time so I can have leftovers!!!

This was our first time trying The Shack and not the last!! We wanted a bit of everything to try. We got the ribs, smoked beef, pizza, jerk prok, mac & cheese, cornbread and riblets. They were all amazing and the owner was super friendly. The hot sauce was HOT but had lots of flavour. Cant wait to try other items on the menu!!

Worst take out experience ever! Mac and cheese had no flavour. Meat was tough and covered in fat. When we called to order they had hardly anything available on their menu we ended up just getting whatever he said he could serve us. We asked for roasted potatoes he said yes and then didn t get any in both orders. Paid $70 for horrible food that made us sick when we got home. Price for the protein plate on their menu is 23.99 we ordered 2 and paid $70 even not sure how that adds up. The place is filthy. Not sure how this place is still open. Won t be returning.

Home made food with an at home experience. Very friendly staff. Perfectly seasoned food. Scrap all local Orillia pizza and order your pizza from here. You will not be disappointed. All their food is honestly amazing. If you re not a fan of coleslaw, you will be after trying theirs. All around a great place from friendly staff to amazing food.

Great food and owners; make sure you stop by on your travels for lunch, dinner and catering in town.

This is a cozy little restaurant thats easy to miss, but its well worth visiting. The owner is just the nicest guy ever, and you can tell all the food he makes is brimming with passion by how good it tastes, and how generous the servings are. The pulled pork sandwich especially is to die for! Little gems like this are the absolute best, Id highly recommend stopping by and supporting his business. You wont be disappointed. :)

Ive ordered ahead and it has been behind most times ive gone. But its always great food and worth the little wait. Love the new owners who had taken over. The pulled pork i highly recommend.

One of the most disappointing experiences Ive had with take out. We went for lunch around 1:30 pm and was informed they had no rice until tomorrow. I chose double potato for my 2 sides. The potatoes were horrendously cold, undercooked. The menu says 1/2 chicken but I only got 1/4 chicken which had barely any meat. The price was $19.99... I paid $25.98... thats an extra $3.40... Just to be served cold food on a Styrofoam plate! As a chef I recommend making sure prices are correct, food is up to temperature and cleaning as you go as prep areas were messy and thats the first thing customers see when they walk into your establishment. I wont recommend or go back.

Not so good when you see the fries being scraped off a baking sheet.

We ordered a shredded chicken plate with two sides and we were disappointed in everything. For $20 it came with maybe half a cup of shredded chicken, I would have thought the meat would be the star of the show and a generous portion for that price. The chicken itself was overly seasoned and very salty. It was slow cooked but still crunchy because of the excess seasoning. The mac and cheese side was flavourless and it seemed like the noodles had been way over cooked. The cornbread looked and felt good but tasted like watery corn. Only redeeming factor was that the gentleman who served us was nice and provided quick service.

AMAZING!!! Dont judge a book by its cover here, Its all about the food! Nothing fancy but amazing food. I had the pulled chicken on a bun and mac n cheese and it def hit the soul. A lot of love is put into smoking of this meat, you wont be disappointed. We sat outside under a nice tiki umbrella as seating is limited. Ever eaten at a Carribean road side shack and had amazing food?? This is the Canadian version of that experience and its great!!! Enjoy!!

We had the pulled pork sandwich and roasted potato poutine, both were delicious. The pork was excellent quality. The staff was very friendly and polite, will be back !! Update : if you go off hours, ask what was just made. Understandably, they cant whip up pulled pork, it would have to be reheated.

We ordered catering for 40 people for a private backyard event. Ched provided excellent service. Excellent communication. We ordered 40 servings of smoked chicken, potatoes and rice. Everything was plentiful and delicious! Thank you so much Ched for catering our event!

Dirtiest restaurant I have ever been in. The garbage cans inside and outside were overflowing. The windows, doors, and floors have never been cleaned by the looks of them. The overpriced pulled pork was tasty but served on a store bought hamburger bun. The Mac n cheese was pasty and clumpy and had absolutely no flavour. Didnt taste any cheese, and I couldnt tell what was actually in it besides the weird shaped pasta. I ended up throwing it in the garbage. A lot of the food on the menu was not available, and the selection of drinks was almost non existant. We were sorry we didnt just go down the road to Arbys.... never again.

Dont think a health unit has ever been inside thats the only reason its still OPEN

It has the feel of a food truck but with restaurant prices. I had the pulled pork and it was nothing special. I paid $20 for a few tablespoons of meat on a little hamburger bun and some fries on the side. It was tasty, but nothing to write home about and I was still hungry afterwards. Prices have obviously gone up. It smells amazing when you walk in but the portions are very small for what you pay. Overall, I wouldnt eat here again. There are other places that have bigger portions for the same price or cheaper.

First time here and was absolutely awesome

Very kind and welcoming owners. Meats cooked in the smoker all morning, the same day! Original recipes and large portions. Comfort food. I come from Quebec and it is an obligation to stop there during our vacation. Parking: Not many seats available inside, but outside yes.

This was the BEST Jerk chicken my husband and I have ever had. Its not too spicy but flavourful and juicy cooked to perfection. This guy knows how to cook! The rib sauce is amazing too you could put it on a leather shoe and it would taste good lmao. Just kidding! But the ribs are awesome too! We will be back to eat here when ever we come to Otillia. My Husband said he would eat the jerk chicken until he got sick thats how good it tastes!! You GOTTA EAT HERE!!

Wife and I got pulled pork sandwiches to go. We picked up 5 minutes after ordering. Sandwiches were stone cold and bare. Potatoes were stale and cold. Not sure if we got food from the night before but it was very disappointing.

The name says it all, it is a shack & the food is revolting . We ordered cheeseburgers & they were raw & bloody inside, the club house sandwich came on a soggy hamburger bun with 1 curled up burnt piece of bacon, soaked in ranch sauce & deli brown meat for the chicken We also ordered a sausage that was smothered in bbq sauce & Mac n cheese for the side with was literally a mountain of plain noodles with zero cheese. Worst food I ve had in years. It all went in the garage where it belongs. I would give it zero stars if I could. Not sure who wrote all the good reviews but we ordered 3 separate dinner options & all were equally horrifying

This place is garbage. Consistently closes early and accepts online orders through Door Dash then makes you wait a week for a refund. Todays order was placed at 6:16 and they are supposed to open until 7 and once the delivery driver got there to pick it up they cancelled our order because they arent open. Not sure what the real business hours are but its not a good way to make money being closed at dinner time.

Stopped in today for the first time. I got a couple burgers for the wife and I. The burgers were so good, and HUGE! They were homemade and I think the owner said they were smoked!! All I know is they were so freakin good! Its definitely my go to place for a burger in Orillia!!

Excellent ribs; better than expected.

We are moving in the area very soon, just walking distance to this place. When we came to visit our future home, we decided to stop over here and have dinner before heading back to the GTAA. My husband ordered the poutine and he says it s pretty good! Better than most poutines he s had in Toronto (and we are from Montreal originally so we are very picky with our poutine). I ordered the ribs and it is pretty good! I love their cornbread as well! Downfall is that there isn t much of a dine in. There s only one table inside. But outside, you can sit on the picnic tables! So it s a nice spot for summer! But for winter, you d have to do take out for sure. I can t wait to move to the neighborhood and I ll definitely come back and try other things on their menu.

Chicken poutine is delicious same with jerk chicken. Very flavorfully seasoned. The Mac and cheese isnt very good, but thats not a big deal.

Was passing through orillia this morning and looked up BBQ restaurants. I had the pulled pork sandwhich which was absolutely delicious. My friends had the smoked chicken as well as the jerk chicken which they both loved. Service was fast and food served with a smile. Will be back next time in Orillia!

A hidden gem! Honestly I wish I came here before! Fantastic gentlemen that works there was super nice. We got a pulled pork and pulled chicken sandwiches with roasted potatoes. Was very delicious. You can taste the love in their home cooking Also got a coleslaw on a side, it is now a must! Best coleslaw! If anyone is ever in that area, you have got to stop by! We ate everything, so I dont have a photo to share

Great Jerk chicken. Friendly atmosphere.

I was there a few weeks back and ordered fries and corn bread. It was pricey and the amount of fries I got for the $15 I paid, was a small amount that could fit in a closed hand. My daughter had the jerk chicken meal and it wasnt even as tasty as we had hoped. The food looks and smells amazing but costly for the amount you get. Dont let my opinion stop you from trying, I may have just not been as lucky as everyone else who says it is good.

Loved the jerk chicken and coleslaw. My husband had pulled chicken with potatoes that was awesome. Just wish they made roti too.

We ordered The Shack Club and Pulled Pork on a bun. WeI love the garlic aioli in it, the chicken and pork was full of flavour. The coleslaw on the side was amazing. Perfect combination. Next- will come back to try that famous Jerky Chicken :)

The sandwich and mac was decent but the sausage on a bun was quite a disappointment. They had to substitute pork for chicken after placing the order, otherwise 4 stars.

Such a homey place, we had the smoked chicken and it was phenomenal! So tender and soft, meat practically falls off the bone. The service is friendly, would ve preferred my corn bread more moist.

Pulled Pork Sandwich was ok (just pulled pork on a grocery store bought bun), the roasted potato side was really bad, it was hard and cold, probably made many days before and left there. It was inexcusably bad. When I came in the owner suggested that I get pulled pork and Mac and Cheese, I should have accepted that and gotten the Mac and Cheese as a side. Place is super disorganized, door windows and buffet windows were pretty dirty. Never going back again.

The jerk chicken was very good but the sides were terrible. I had dried up potatoes (they had no ketchup) and the coleslaw had so much garlic it was awful. Also they didnt have half the items on the menu. No cornbread, no ribs and no burgers. Worst part... The place was absolutely disgustingly filthy.

Had them cater an anniversary party for my in-laws. Nothing too fancy, pulled chicken, potatoes and coleslaw, but it was delicious and a hit with just about everyone. Far more effort put in than we expected and I thoroughly enjoyed leftovers for a few days. The garlic sauce for the potatoes was so good. Happy to recommend them!

Order the smokes chicken main tried for the garlic mash and coleslaw but both were out had to do fries and rice cause thats all they had for sides was the worst meal I have ever had. My fiancee order a side of Mac and cheese if you could call it that.just elbow noodles no cheese and a lumpy flour base sauce. And force to pay a tip couldnt remove it tried to say no tip twice and it just kept going back to the tip screen. WORST FOOD PLACE IN ORILLIA HANDS DOWN!! A NO STAR RATING IS FAR TO HIGH

A fall from grace.

I just picked up the barbecue chicken and a jerk chicken meal. Hands down the best chicken Ive EVER had. It just falls off the bone and melts in your mouth. Im pretty sure it was the owner I was just speaking to, I didnt get his name and I wish I did. He was such a kind and genuine human being. Its a shame that someone broke in and tried to destroy his livelihood. That being said, hes got his doors open still, the food is excellent, the service is impeccable as well. 10 out of 10 recommend this little place and this delicious food. Its worth it to support local!!

Went here today on recommendation of a friend, it was AMAZING! I really recommend it, had the jerk chicken, mac and cheese and coleslaw it was delicious! Looking forward to trying the beef next time! Thank you very much for the great food!

Had a good meal

This used to be my favourite place to go when I would come to visit the trailer. The old owner was friendly and made you feel like family. Yesterday my boyfriend and I went in for the first time since the restaurant was taken over by new owners at around 6pm. As soon as we walked in, I made a joke that i thought they were closed. Instead of being greeted with a smile, he immediately said were almost sold out and proceeded to let us know what he had and lucky for us it was what we came for. We got the vibe while he was packing up our order that we werent wanted there at all. He ended up giving us one main, and one side (about a four bite portion size each) and charged us full price for a main and two sides ($30) We ended up having to go somewhere else to eat after because we were still hungry. Not to mention the food was not as great as it used to be. We will not be returning.

Ordered a jerk chicken meal on April 3rd around 5pm. It was $14.99 and both chicken and rice were stale and smelly. Chicken tasted like it was fried in old oil. I had to throw it away. I am a returning customer as I had a good experience with them a few years ago. Never again.

Superb pulled pork and jerk chicken! Lots of sides to choose from to go along with the great mains. This place is normally popping and they sell what they have available each day.

Disappointed!!! Sold out of what I wanted but went with the chicken club. Maybe a quarter of a piece of chicken breast and 2 pieces of tasteless bacon. Bun was cold and small slice of tomato was tasteless. The side of potatoes was good but small portion. For the price and amount it was way overpriced.

Up date Stopped here a couple weeks ago and was very disappointed. The ribs were tough,the rice was was dried out and under cooked, the aioli was to salty and not tasty in my opinion. I will not be going back. The new owners should have stuck with the original owners standards. This place is a treasure. We happened upon The Shack while driving through Orillia.We had the ribs and pork with all 3 sides. It was all amazing! Great food ,great service.We defiantly will be back.

We thought we d try the Shack based on the reviews. Unfortunately it appears ownership has changed since most of the 5 star reviews were given and this place now doesn t live up to its former glory. We arrived around 6:20 and were told they were closing within the hour but would still serve us. Sign on the door says they close at 8:00. This may be the source of some of our problems as we appear to have gotten food that had been cooked hours ago. The ribs were dry and couldn t finish them. Additionally, the back skin which is usually peeled off was not, which made them difficult to eat. The chicken was good though. Fries were made fresh but were salty. When we tried to pay they added an auto tip of close to 18% which you can t adjust. A tip is no longer a tip when it s forced and can t be adjusted, especially since we did takeout and didn t get what we were expecting.

Tiny little place. Went there to find some food (not easy, because I am on Keto). The owner knew what Keto was, and told me that their jerk Chicken was Keto friendly. It was delicious, so went back a 2nd night for more. My only complaint? Cook some ribs without BBQ sauce are some sugar free BBQ sauce, so that us Keto people, will have more options! Regardless, chicken was great!!

If your hungry I would highly recommend stopping in and getting a yummy pulled pork sandwich loaded up with caul slaw, with a side of caul slaw, we devoured ours! Also their home fries with a drizzle of the home sauce were really really flavourful! Give this place a try you won t we disappointed!

Omg! We got the pulled pork sandwiches, slaw and corn bread. We sat at the picnic benches out front devouring everything as the juice ran down our fingers. The only thing to make it better was if they had supplied hand wipes for our sticky fingers. But the food is great! If we had been in town longer we would have been back to try more of his selection.

Love this little gem of a spot! Excellent service and the food was delicious! Burger was perfect poutine so good I love the gravy and scotch bonnet hot sauce Jerk is so good meat falls off the bone. I highly recommend you pass by! And he has Pepsi Zero!

Great corner BBQ spot. Locally owned and operated. Great BBQ Chicken / Jerk Chicken Mac and Cheese was so go I went for seconds. BBQ sauce is southern style. Not out of a jar. Reasonably priced and great food. Pull over and grab a meal.

Outstanding little place with amazing food and service. You gotta try the roasted potatoes with a Basil aioli its the bomb. The young fellow running it who I assume is the owner has a great personality and great customer relations. I was telling him Im a long haul Mover from Vancouver Island BC and insisted I take some more of te potatoes for the road as it will be awhile before Im back. Amazing menu service and prices. WOW!! Me and my husband went there today for the first time . The food was absolutely incredible and the service was even better. Could not believe how great his bbq is. We got the half rack of ribs with slaw and Mac and cheese, half jerk chicken (which didn t even fit in the container) with slaw and roasted potatoes. Food was so great we had to call back and tell him how amazing his food is! Highly recommend locally owned and operated BBQ!

Must be closed, the phone number works but isn t answered. The hours are posted but not updated. Went two days during their supposed open hours and there s no signage or updates. I heard this place was a good place to go but it seems to be gone. Please reply to my post and I ll remove it if the owners are still alive and running the business. Otherwise let me know if the business has closed so i can update it.

One of the best restaurants in Orillia. The new management are Jamaican and the place is really blowing up. The food is very delicious, affordable and quick. The overall experience is amazing and friendly. I recommend going there and I m sure you won t be disappointed.

Bought a meal here and I paid cash. I asked for a receipt. She said there was no receipt for cash purchase. I think someone employed there is stealing money. I cant believe no receipt can be given unless you use credit card. The clerk this afternoon made up some total that didnt add up to what we ordered. Food was amazing though.

We stopped in for lunch and could not believe the menu. Loads of delish options and generous portion sizes. The ribs were fall off the bone juicy and flavourful! Cornbread was perfect and the kids loved the mac n cheese. Asiago dip for the potatoes was a really nice touch! The owners and staff were very friendly and all the customers that seemed to pop in an through were raving about how good their lunch was. Especially the pulled pork. Ive already told 4 people about this place since my visit... Needless to say we will be back!

Extremely good smoked meat. We visited at lunch time and everything including the fries were prepared fresh. They have several tables outside and offer takeout. While outside you get to smell the fresh meat being smoked on their smokers. Prices are very competitive for the larger portions provided.

Food was very delicious, much tastier than I thought but it was cold to warm. It should have been warmer. We tried different chicken and sides. Portion were a bit small in size and price is on the high end. It would be solid 5 stars if not for these downsides.

Pretty good food for the price. It certainly wasnt a 5 star sandwhich, but I also didnt pay 5 star prices!

Well the meat was perfectly cooked and the price really good i did not enjoy the BBQ sauce they use and i wont be returning. Hope all who do enjoy keep going and keep this small business in business.

The ribs and chicken were good. One if the sauces on the chicken was particularly delicious. The side fixings were a bit hit and miss. Not inexpensive, but the portions are large for the cost.

After driving by this place for ages, finally stopped in and was super impressed. Had the pulled pork and jerk chicken with a few sides (coleslaw, corn bread, garlic mashed) which were great. The chicken wasnt super meaty but that very well couldve been a outlier. If youre in Orillia and looking for a change of pace, absolutely hit this spot up.

How did I not hear about this place in the last year?? If you havent been and love smoked food, its a must try!!! The basil aioli is amazing.

Coleslaw is one of the best around I have had so far. Pulled chicken sandwich and pulled beef both moist and tasty , sides of slaw and roasted potatoes with basil aioli made a very flavorful dish. Wish I had a bigger tummy , need to try pulled pork and the ribs and or sausages. Thanks for the good food . Until next year. Please stay in business. Smiles Nat and Mike.

Wow I cant believe how dirty this joint is. Not sure they have inspections in Orillia but this place is ripe for a outbreak or a closure. The pulled pork sandwich was salty a soggy, the coleslaw looked old a d the sauce bowl looked like it had never been washed before.
