Rumi Restaurant - Afghan BBQ in Orléans

Shared the Qabuli Uzbeki, and Naan o kabob. Enough food for 4. Only word to describe everything.....superb! Young lady serving was amazing. Please try the restaurant experience, art work and music add to the experience. We travelled very far while sitting at Trim and Innes. Thank you to the family working very hard at sharing their culinary knowledge.

This is one of my favorite restaurants in the city. Everything about it is great: the food, the services, the place. We are big fans of their qorma and their skewers. 10000% recommend.

Big, clean and bright restaurant that welcomes you with the beautiful scent of the grill and rich spices. I love mantu and this place has the perfect amount of split peas and tangy yogurt drizzle. My picky 6 year old son loves their beef shami kids meal served with fries and a mango lassi drink. I ve also come with my less adventurous husband and watched him devour his butter chicken served with naan, rice and salad. He actually couldn t finish the plate. I ve been served by the kind fellow who was so passionate about the food and was so eager to make sure we enjoyed our time.

Tahsin was an excellent host and the cooks in the back treated us amazing and brought quality food with a professional family feel. I would highly recommend this place to anyone.

One of my favourite restaurants to both dine in and take out. The first time my dad and I dined there around when it first opened, the staff were incredibly nice, and the portions and price have remained consistently worth it for the quality and amount of food you get. I ve recommended this place to a bunch of people looking for something new as chain restaurants generally are getting worse and worse. Local Restaurants like these are the ones that deserve your business.

This is quite a little gem. My son and I went there for supper. Being both newbies to Afghan food we asked the waiter for recommendations. Omg. What a flavour bomb. Food was delicious, decor charming and service impeccable. You wont be disappointed.

Worst service by the cashier on Sat Aug-24-2024 at 9:40 pm. He Didn t ask me if i needed sauce with skewers of kabab or mention that skewers dont come with sauce. Came home and had to have kabobs without sauce, didn t go well.

Great food!! It was our first time trying Afghan cuisine, ordered delivery. We tried the dumplings, chicken, tandoori, and the beef stew and everything was delicious, not too spiced and not hot at all. Portions were very good. Would have it again without hesitation, will explore other dishes next time. Very well packed and presented, several compostable containers. Highly recommended

We discovered Rumi Restaurant recently, and it immediately became our favorite restaurant in Ottawa. This family owned restaurant serves authentic, succulent Afghan cuisine, very generous portions at great price with impeccable and quick service. You feel at home there, lot of space, with beautiful peaceful music. Its a privilege to have such a good restaurant in Orleans and to be served by very kind people. Kid-friendliness: Our kids love Rumi restaurant!

I visited this establishment with a party of 5 individuals, and everyone around me was happy with their food but in my case, I ordered the BBQ chicken and it took a long time, like a solid 20 minutes after the other five received their food. When the chicken came out, it was almost burned to a crisp but I didn t feel like giving it back and asking for a new dish since I was already 20 minutes the rest of the group. I didn t really want to write the review, but Google in its glory asked me to provide one, and I thought it would be worth it to mention. I want to say that the food for the other five patrons was good, but I lucked out I guess.

The food was amazing. Juicy Kebab and the rice was tasty too. Definitely one of the most delicious food I ever had in my life.

The lovely woman at the cash was super welcoming and friendly. The food. OH MY GOSH. I ve never had food like this before and it was 15/10 delicious. The positions were massive. Enough for three meals for myself. If you haven t been here, you must!!! It s amazing. I will DEFINITELY be back!! Thank you so much the the staff and cooks!!

Been here a few times. Each time was better than the last. Had Tahsin as my server each time and he was great. very kind, very friendly and always quick to get anything me or my family needed. The food was also spectacular. And I will definitely be coming back again and recommending to others due to my great experiences here.

I recently went to Mezbaan for the first time, and it seems like Ill be coming here way more often! I ordered some lamb shanks, and they were amazing, some of the best Ive ever tasted! On top of that, there was a huge portion, and the meal was able to fill me up. The service was extraordinary as well. There was a young man who served me, his name was Tahsin. Tahsin was super kind, and was able to get my food as quick as he could. Some of the best service Ive had in a while! Overall, this restaurant is one of the best in the area in my opinion.

Food is very flavorful but the price is just too high for what you actually get. They bulk up their dishes with days and days worth of rice. Salad too. Cant justify the cost for such little food(unless you want tons and tons of rice) Again, very tasty but until prices lower we wont be back.

Yesterday evening, at approximately 7:30 PM, I eagerly ordered the 5-person meal from Mezbaan, anticipating a flavorful and satisfying dining experience. However, what transpired was far from what I had hoped for, as the lack of freshness and cold temperatures marred the enjoyment of the meal. Upon bringing the food home, it became evident that freshness was sorely lacking across the board. The rice, naan, qorma, and meats all exhibited signs of being anything but freshly prepared. The rice lacked the characteristic fluffiness and aroma, while the naan failed to exude the warmth and softness indicative of just-out-of-the-oven bread. Furthermore, the qorma, a dish expected to be bursting with flavor, fell short, lacking the depth and vibrancy that fresh ingredients impart. To compound matters, the meats were not only lacking in freshness but also served at a disappointingly cold temperature, further detracting from the overall dining experience. While the ambiance and service at Mezbaan were commendable, the issues surrounding freshness and temperature significantly overshadowed these positives. As a discerning diner who values quality and authenticity, I urge Mezbaan to prioritize freshness in their ingredients and ensure that dishes are served at the appropriate temperature to enhance the dining experience. What measures does Mezbaan have in place to ensure customer satisfaction after serving a subpar meal? I feel very disappointed after paying for such an expensive meal as it didnt live up to its expectations at all. What actions does Mezbaan intend to take to rectify these issues after my order yesterday?

Weve now tried almost everything on the menu and have been very impressed with all the dishes. Weve established a few favourites however you really cant go wrong. A big eye opener for me is the eggplant qorma. I cant order from Mezbaan without it and I dont even like eggplant?!

I took my family for mothers day. We ordered qabuli uzbeki, lamb shank, shami chicken, and Tikka beef. Each dish was delectable and enormous. The server was delightful and really made us feel blessed. We will be going back for more. Highly recommend.

Best Afghani food in the east end by far

Trust me this place never fails to disappoint! Love their afghan cuisine served hot and delicious. First time visit to their Orléans branch well lit up place with lots of tables tried the chaplee kebab chicken platter which was so good and the bolani my fav!!! For two people it was quite a decent meal salad was also good and spacious parking area outside. Every dish served here has flavor. Don t miss this place for lunch or dinner anyday! Our total was around 37$ with a stomach full meal

Ive been here a handful of times since they opened last year and I cant even give a bad experience, they did forget half my stuff yesterday but I went back and they had prepared it for me. The food is always delicious. Tried something new from here yesterday their Beef Korma and it was 10/10!

Got food from mezbaan and Michelle was the one that helped me out. Her customer service was impeccable and the food was 10/10 will definitely go back for more. And I encourage everyone to go and try them out.

My wife and her 2 female friends went to this restaurant for lunch. They were directed to à corner table, sat down and were promptly ignored by the servers. They felt extremely uncomfortable and after 10 minutes of waiting for menus that never arrived, they left. They were clearly not welcomed, either by the restaurant or by its exlusively male patrons. Not recommended.

After reading all the reviews in the Orleans Foodies Group on Facebook. I knew I had to give them a try. The Chicken Drumstick Tandoori was tasty and not dry. The Qabelli Rice was fresh, not dry and good portion. As for the Bolani, love the taste of the spicy potato in the naan bread. Will be trying more of the food from this place and recommend it.

Food never fails. I am a repeat customer. Ive had a variety of the dishes and loved all of them. My favorite is their Qabuli Uzbeki (I did not order this the last time I was there, I had the Shami instead), which is lamb with qabuli rice. I hope they dont take this off their menu. Delicious! This was our first time with Afghan food. We ate it at home. It was really tasty. The chicken skewer were tender, the rice, very good and the naan, tasty. All four of us really enjoyed our meals. We will definitely order again from that restaurant. Maybe just a suggestion for the restaurant. It would be helpful for those without knowledge with Afghan dishes, if you would indicate on the cover what dish is in the plates.

When I went to Mezbaan Restaurant, I tried Tika kebab and I really loved it! I had a great experience with the meat being cooked perfectly and the flavor of the spices. The meal was served with delicious sauces and fresh sides. The staff were extremely welcoming and provided fast service. The atmosphere was quite pleasant too, a perfect place to relax and enjoy delicious Indian cuisine. I will definitely visit again! I highly recommend you try Tika kebab when you go to Mezbaan!

Just ate at Mezbaan for the first time and it was sooo yummy! We had the chicken and beef skewers with rice and salad. If I could give more than 5 stars I would. Very generous portions, well seasoned chicken and my partner had the lamb shank and said it was delicious. Price is also good for the amount of food we got. Compared to two burger meals at a fast food joint I would get this again hands down.

I came here for a work dinner and got the bolani, and my boyfriend got the beef korma. Both AMAZING! I ve never had Afghani food before and it was so delicious. 10/10 recommend, would come back again very soon!

Absolutely stellar food, service was lightning fast (received my food in less than 10 minutes). I had the Qabuli Uzbeki and the lamb was melting in my mouth. The portion was generous. I will recommend to all my friends.

The food is soooo tasty

Unfortunately portions size reduced remarkably. Tonight I noticed the size of beef filet mignon reduced to half compared to last year. Tomato sauce served in small plastic containers and no white sauce served with salad. Please do not compromise on quality of your food and services.

Amazing central asian food. especially mantu

You can really taste the love in Mezbaan s food, each and every time, even when delivered, it s still perfect. The tandoori chicken drumsticks and dumplings are our favourite. The chicken wrap is a staple too. The flavour and seasoning is on point! We love Mezbaan!

As excited as we were to give Mezbaan a shot, eager to try Afghan food for our first time, my fiancée and I regrettably had to end our date night prematurely and extremely disappointed. Having a severe egg allergy, my fiancée is always on the ball with securing (and eliminating) her options. Our first waiter did not confidently seem to understand the implications of her restriction, and therefore pawned us off to the second waitress. Having inquired once again with the new waitress, we were then told that the dishes we were looking at should all be good. Having reiterated the importance of this simple request, reasonably requesting a sure confirmation, it was later confirmed that we would be fine with the dishes we had selected. My fiancée can often detect fairly early on, with a simple and minimal taste test whether or not her throat will be iritated by the presence of eggs. At this point, both of us confused and frustrated by her itchy throat it was again confirmed that after having spoken with the chef, eggs were in none of the dishes whatsoever. Odd but not impossible. Within minutes thereafter, my fiancée had to exit the restaurant and has been violently ill since. We are both very disappointed that such a local and authentically appearing restaurant would have such lack of regard towards a matter of food allergies/dietary restriction.

I stumbled upon this gem called Afghan Flavors, and let me tell you, its a taste bud adventure! The kebabs are so full of flavor, and the rice dishes? Dont even get me started on the aroma. Mezbaan restaurant offers one of the best Afghan cuisine in Ottawa. It doesn t get any more delicious or better than Mezbaan.

Ordered the half chicken Tandoori. Came with rice, some salad (lettuce, tomato only) The chicken was super dry, the rice was . You know. Rice. The bread was pretty hard. Not soft at all. Not sure what the good reviews are for. I usually order kabobs when I eat Afghan food. The chicken was not tandoori. Pretty disappointed. The water tasted like old freezer. Maybe I should ve ordered the kabobs instead. But that s not something I need to come back here for. So many better places in Orleans and Ottawa. So many.
