I often ordered here via Uber Eats because, even though there is always a problem with each and every one of my orders, I found that their food was some of the best Haitian food in Ottawa. But after another mistake with my order, as per usual, and one of their items (legim) tasting straight up burnt this time, this will be my last time ordering from them. They refuse to give out a small container of pikliz, which anywhere else would come free with a meal. Ironic, considering the name of the restaurant. No one wants to buy an $8 container of it when you’re only given 1 piece of plantain. It even says in the description that it comes with 2 sides, but that’s a lie because you have to pay for them Not to mention, the food isn’t cheap. Super disappointed…
I went a couple of times and was served by the man which is the owner I'm guessing. The food was always on point , Griot well seasoned melts in your mouth. But the last time I went I was really really disappointed we were served by 2 girls we waited at least 1 hour for our food and the griot was so hard and dry. We spent at least 70$ and tbh it wasn't worth the money at all! Not sure I'll drive from Gatineau again to get my Griot plate anymore unless I can be guaranteed what we use to get by the owner he was best!
Ordered two large plates and received one small plate with one plantain and rice. No macaroni salad. Received one container full of rice. Also ordered a side of sauce and didn’t get any sauce let alone the extra.
First time trying them Really disappointed, the vegetables (legume) doesn't taste right at all . The rice is under cooked (like eating rubber ) and lacks flavour . The portion of sauce isn't sufficient for the rice . When I called them to try to rectified my order I found it was a waste of time. Over priced for the quality and quantity It's the first and last time I'll be eating here ...
I got the griot plantain burger. Feels a bit too expensive for $15 with tax for two paltry burgers and a few fries. Burgers were dry, didn’t have much fillings, and fries were moderately decent. On a afterthought, it seems like getting things by themselves off the menu and then assembling it might be way cheaper than ordering this. I also got some accras and beef, both of which were good quantity for the price point. Accras were amazing (they get all the stars in my review) but beef was a bit too dry. I had to check twice if I got all my food because it felt a bit too small for the amount I paid. I think the way to go with this restaurant would be to get the ones with rice. I see the other reviews with pictures and that seems to be a better option in terms of quantity. Another note. Check the prices rung carefully. My plantains were priced higher on the till but I caught it right away as I was paying attention. Might be a genuine mistake on the part of the server but the whole experience today was rather underwhelming.
Food was good, the wait time was long, we places a phone order and we were told 30 mins so we went to pick up.about 40 mins after and still had to wait another 15 mins. I ordered the fried goat and it was a bit dry, the plantain was a bit dry, coleslaw was way to spicy (for me) and everything needed a pinch more salt, but overall the food tasted great and good presentation.
New restaurant in Orleans so I thought I should give it a try since I never had Haitian food before. I did a take out. I wish the server would have taken his time and explained to me the difference type of food. I ordered a Fritay roast chicken and was excited to get home and try it. Got home and opened the food container there was no chicken but instead I got pork. Ok, let's try the pork.... It was so dry. The cabbage aw was spicy and good. Everything else was ok. Needed salt.
Such a beautiful restaurant and the food is incredible! Delicious Haitian dishes served in generous portions and staff are warm and kind. The food is fresh and so flavourful, every ingredient sharing it's own story. Definitely going back!
Owner was very cocky for no reason, just wanted us to leave
Your restaurant needs to do better on the lalo you are offering leaves that s not lalo at all.
The place is lovely with a warm atmosphere. The Fritay plate (with your choice of meat) is by far the best in town. Give it a try and thank me later :)
I have been in Ottawa over two years and ti Pik Liz have always done it for me !! Highly recommend! Must try before anything . Griot platter!!!! Goat is always tender and flavourful. The pate kode , done to perfection all the time . Also the beans sauce is fantastic . Serving are always hefty , price per items on menu is a bang for your buck . Honestly everything is good . But most importantly the quality is like what you would prepare at home , in the most pure and truest form that Haitian food has to offer.
Delicious flavour and seasoned food, but small meat portions.
The food was excellent. We loved the appetizers, rice and grilled chicken.
Food taste so good
We do not put pepper and acid in the pickles. Pickles are pepper and acid lmao. What I ate last night was a coleslaw. Otherwise the rest of the meal was good.
Ordered griau and out of 8 pieces 6 of them was just a cooked piece of fat, never ordering again
The worst ever! Very dirty unprofessional staff and wait time is crazy.
Great little spot in Orleans. Its well decorated, clean and fast. The people are very nice and polite. It is refreshing to finally have a good restaurant like this in our backyard. The price is fair, the food is legit. Just enjoy it! :)
Very good
Best haitian place in Ottawa. The place is clean and the food tastes so good. Best customer service. The Best place to be in Ottawa. Great job Team. Visiting from Toronto.
Wow so good! Generous portions
Great restaurant. Best Haitian food I had in a while. I had the griot. My wife had the tassot. We found our new spot.
Ordered $40-50 worth of food, not worth the price. Apart from it very much lacking in flavour, the food does not taste fresh, the plantain, pikliz, griot, chicken wings, macaroni tasted very weird or old. Just praying I don t get an upset stomach after this. Future reference, Make it at home or just order somewhere else : ( (also they put one plantain in my plate idk why it felt really cheap lol) was hoping for a better experience
Best goat and akra
They have the worst customer service in the world. Imagine buying at the place and the cashier face look just like he dont want to be there.
Let me tell you why 1 star is deserved, i order on uber eats right, uber eats isn t the problem. They never give me the correct items, may be my problem is ordering again and again after they ve messed up countless times. MAYBE. BUT the fact of the matter is i put in a note, that clearly reads please double check my order contents because the dish i get can t be eaten without the sauce, listen i m white but my food mustn t be dry hello? please tipikliz, get some sense into your order pickers. all these bad reviews are going to close your store!
Absolutely the best haitian flavors in the city! Homemade feeling on every bite and all around. You wont regret stopping by this place and giving it a try. You will retun for more without a doubt! Every item in the traditional menu is a must!
So far the best Haitian food in Ottawa as far as taste, presentation and servings.
Sooo tasty!!! Really happy I tried this place :)
Decided to try this place. It was well worth it. Most definitely will be ordering again.
Before going to this restaurant, I had ordered my food about an hour before and told them at what time I would be there! Was happy to go and try/support another Haitian place! Unfortunately, I was disappointed! First when I came to the restaurant, no one was at the counter, after about 5 to 10 minutes, someone came out, the guy he just looked at me, which was not right in my eyes, you should be welcoming your customers! there was one person in front of me and when it was my turn, still no greeting, told him my name as that is what you have to do when ordering over the phone but then he said can you remind me of your order? I said is it not ready? then I said my name again. Finally he went to the back, came back after about 10 minutes later with part of my order, about another few minutes, the rest of my order came. Also, after all that, the payment machine would not work so I had to wait for him to reboot in order for me to pay! I was already saying to myself I hope the food is good because at least that would made it worth it and I might give them another chance! The food was by far average and the Banane Pese were very salty! One good thing about this restaurant is that hey have a different type of menu with different type of selections that other Haitian restaurant in Ottawa do not have. In Orleans by far the best Haitian restaurant I have been to is Bon Gout Creole, the food is excellent and there is better customer service!
Usually on time with food, but once in a while expect to wait 30-45+ mins for an order they say will be ready in 20-25 mins during peak hours. Thats just how it goes with Haitian food, but its worth the wait. Taste is great. We have tried to make griot at home and it just doesnt come out right. In probably 35+ phone ahead orders for two adults since Ive lived in the end of the town to Tipikliz in the past 1.5 years, the food as been ready on time or within 5 mins of what Im told. And weve only had one small mistake in the order (missing one accra of the 8 we were expecting), rice was burned and not good (although still edible) once, and overcooked once. Even the griot comes with 80-90% meat when most other places in Ottawa, Montréal, etc. its more like 60-75% meat compared to fat in the cut. Tasso boeuf always good, fritay always good. Very consistent good quality, good flavour, great portion sizes, great price, and consistent. 5/5 and it keeps us coming back every week. Shout out to cashier/front counter Greg and to whoever the owner in the kitchen and the cooks are!
The food is average it s not as good as the one in queen Mary.
Amazing food!
Ive only ever gotten takeout so cant speak on in-person but so far the best Haitian spot in Orleans.
Not bad but it lacked taste and the pikliz is not very good or spicy
Tbh my first time going to a black owed buisness where its inviting great aeration the inside doesnt smell like all food you dont wait 20 30 mn for your food regardless that you call. I feel its well organized well decorated and they offer some rare dish like tarte a loignon the display is beautiful but also haitian ... they mean buisness this one i applaud them.
Good place to to eat
At first I thought bon gout lakay was the best in Ottawa until I came here. I dont like their macaroni salad but everything else was good especially the goat.
I was hustled large! I was charged $186.00 for $60.00 worth of food! I went into complain as all my guests were from the Caribbean and told me I was hustled because I am white. The owner refused to refund it and is fully aware I am posting this. I am a human rights activist for the black community, thank you for the hustle! Good karma coming your way. My two friends can t wait to see the owners at church!
So yummy
Unprofessional, That young man behind the counter need to stop talking to his mobile phone while customer are waiting to place their order and he needs to wear his mask, period
My brother in law bought akra there a while back (hes not haitian) and it was a mix of fresh and old akras. I dont want to assume that this was intentional and they thought he wouldnt be able to tell...l but some of the akras were so stale and you could tell that they had been refried, possibly to pass them with the fresh ones... How could they not notice? Please be mindful of this in the future... And buyers be careful. Other than this we really like this restaurant and the food is generally delicious. My entire family has bought from this place and this akra thing had not happened before. Next time, we will return it.
Best haitian food in Orleans! Always super fresh and big portions
Food is good but they consistently mess up the orders. especially with Uber eats. The first time I went in person the line was very long and no one was at the cash for like 15 to 20 minutes. The people who are waiting included Uber and skip the dishes drivers who are on a strict time limit so it was not fair to them. oh and they never once offered anyone an apology for the wait even if people were willing to wait an hour . Once we finally got the food after an hour, we come home to find out that it was the wrong order. But because we were so hungry we ate it anyways and the food was really good. The next time I ordered online, the food came without any of the sauces or utensils or anything. Good food but inconsistent customer service compared to other Caribbean restaurants. Will eat again but please step up the customer service.
Hidden gem. Must try. Great value of food.
Great Haitian restaurant. Food is great. However, more light is required for brightness.
Good food, good portions. This is my go-to Haitian jam
10 / 10
Amazing Haitian cuisine! Everything ordered was delicious and very authentic. Hidden gem in orleans, highly recommended.
The food is alright. They dont give a good portion of food especially with ubereats or skip the dishes. They send you food on small desert plates. Fried plantains also need to be properly cooked.
The rice and beans is great, I love their macaroni, the plantain are ok and the roast chicken is cooked just right. If you need an alternative to Shawarma platters in Orleans, this place would be a great place to start.
Excellent and great
Tasted the pate kode and it was the best Ive ever had! I could see myself driving 2hrs to come back and have a proper meal at this place.
Clean, great customer service. Prompt services. And delicious
Excellent customer service et Food is Delicious.
I love the haitian food, the atmosphere and the staff are great. This is now my spot in Orleans
Excellent ambiance, Excellent customer service and Excellent authentic Haitian cuisine. Your best bet for delicious Haitian food in Orléans. You have the option of dinning in, take out or delivery. Try it out they wont disappoint.
First time there, suggested by a friend, excellent fresh food and amazing customer service. I will definitely be going back and bringing friends and family.
Good surprise, good food. Very clean restaurant, nice atmosphere
Visited Tipkliz for the first time. Delicious food, friendly staff. Highly enjoyed Accra, Chicken/rice dish (dont remember the correct name) and Pickliz on top. Gem of a restaurant in Ottawa. 5 stars and Highly recommended. Will be definitely back.
Very good Caribbean foods.
Clean, fast, and the griot is the best in the city. These guys need a more conspicuous sign: many people havent even noticed this spot yet. Tragic.
Amazing!!!!!
A beautiful, simple setting. Better to order in advance. Enjoy your food !
This is a really great place to eat, very well presented. The ambience is welcoming great decor and good music. The food is delicious and come on... cant go wrong with haitian food. If you are in Orleans I recommend che king them out they do delivery online using skip the dish and over the phone. If you are around the area you can just pop in and have a great time. Owner is very friendly and welcoming.
We have gone here several times now and they never disappoint, delicious quick and polite service
Love love love
As delicious as always ! This place is a must @
Very friendly, good service, excellent food, multilingual
As a skipthedishes courier they are inconsiderate, rude and took 20 minutes to get my food together claiming were not a fast food place. Id like to see a customer wait 20 minutes for their food!! See how long youd stay in business. Much more of this and you will lose your skip privileges. Ive already reported you.
The food was fresh
The visit was satisfactory, it exceeded expectations in various regards; not your typical West Indian / Caribbean restaurant. Parking was not an issue. Decor impressive and impeccably maintained. Service was prompt and courteous; with the entire menu available. Food reasonably priced (under priced in some cases) and portions adequate. Although my first, it will certainly not be my last visit. Go and taste it for yourself !!!
Theres a serious problem with some of our Haitian restaurants, drove 20 min to try this new restaurant and requested on the phone legume without meat and drove back and started to eat and Bamm whats in my mouth meat Lord have mercy come on my ppl thats not cool seriously not cool especially when the person on the phone said yes we have it.
Cozy little Haitian restaurant with good food and warm atmosphere. Excellent place for parties
Very good
Amazing place, amazing food, perfect way to have a taste of Haïti in ottawa
Service and food was fabulous....will return hopefully sooner than later
Great place for a quick taste of Haiti
Go try it if you havent already! Excellent Haitian cuisine. Ive had the real thing and this is on that level. The griot were juicy and savory, cabrit was excellent and riz jonjon was delicious. Looking forward to my next visit!
Good home cooked Haitian food, close to home. There might be a short wait, but typical when ordering takeout/delivery and good food takes time, there nothing fast food about this. Everything is made quality and that takes time. That being said its a must try
Excellent food if you like Haitian cuisine!
Food was delicious and service was great
Excellent meal and superb customer service. I ordered the wrong thing, I ordered sticky rice instead of djon djon rice but it was just as delicious.
