Really good! Absolutely love the wonton noodle bowl! Comes with veggies and broth and it s seriously amazing.

The food was expensive for such small portion and it was stale. I paid 35$ for a small plate and wings that tasted like it was made yesterday. Don t waste your money here!!!

Havent been here in quite a while and have to agree with some of the other posts, not good anymore and very disappointing. Got the 3 item regular size which is supposed to be the larger one? Almost $20 with tax (no drink) and less food than you used to get. The worst chicken balls I have ever had! They look huge but was like biting into a disgusting tough doughy loaf of bread. And when you do actually find the speck of chicken, it was so dry and very stale tasting. So gross, had to throw them out. Lemon chicken was so-so. Lo mein and rice were pretty good. Definetly did not get my moneys worth today.

The combo is over priced. And rice or noodles count for a item. Thatscrazy!

We have always enjoyed the Golden Gate Restaurant at their old location and new. We have been going in and picking dinners from their take out dishes or ordering for years. We are always very happy with the service and employees, however, we are not experiencing the same quality and quantity these days with portion sizes and taste. I realize prices have increased everywhere which we are all having to decide to pay when eating out, however the portion size compared to the past has really changed. Last week my wife went in for two 3 piece take out meals and if you order a small size, it is now being filled just to the height of the inside portioned out spaces of the container which in the past used to be piled on and very generous. Most of the lemon chicken and general tao pieces we have been getting lately seem to be mostly dough and very small pieces of chicken. We used to get 2 small meals out of each order in the past and now it is barely enough for one person.

Weve been ordering from Golden Gate since I was a kid and its always been excellent. Their service is always kindness first. Theres a reason we only order from here and always will. Thank you to management and staff for making our meal amazing. Not every business goes above and beyond the way Golden Gate does. Kid-friendliness: Plenty of meal options even for picky kids. Wheelchair accessibility: Ample parking and wheel chair accessible spots/ramp nearby.

This restaurant used to be good, back when it was at Five Points Mall. It was hard to justify going to over Momma s, but offered a pretty good quality Chinese buffet. Unfortunately, the move to Townline made it much worse. The food quality is mediocre, the prices are really high and the portions are underwhelming. I ve thought about giving this restaurant another chance, but I don t plan to. I ve read a lot of the reviews on here, and am disgusted by how the owner responds to anything negative. All he seems to do is copy and paste the same crud, saying things like: You should ve spent more. Our food is cheaper than competitors. - it s not Food quality is aligned with our (insert made up and apparently trademarked program here) standards. Sign up for our VIP program. This restaurant takes no responsibility for its shortcomings, and is rude to paying customers who aren t happy. Don t pay an arm and a leg for its mediocre Chinese food; go to Golden Pine and get good Chinese food. Wheelchair accessibility: My sibling is in a wheelchair, and the accessibility was good.

Order A LOT of food for New Years Eve. Came barely warm and was surprised on the amount of food received for the amount we paid. The taste was the same as most Chinese places but we did have some hard (like sand) pieces in our chicken balls and the spring rolls were just not tasty. We were embarrassed that ALL the food was barely warm for or 15 guests but ate it anyways because it was there and did not want to wait for the food to be remade and redelivered .. assuming they would have done that if we called last night.

Very disappointed. The food was always good but when ordered over $240.00 worth the portions were very small and they eliminated the rectangle size to the small round and yet did not reduce the price. The quantity was definitely not what it use to be. Will try another place in Courtice. Definitely lost a customer because of this.

Food is pretty good but portion size is a major problem. Ordered for a large family gathering and was barely enough to feed everyone. The large is piddly small. They say the supply chain doesnt have the ones they used to have for the large. Great. I Understand. But dont charge me for a large then when its a medium at best. Wont be ordering from here again until they get proper portions. Absolute Rip off for what I paid. And on a side note. A $250 order and you want to charge me for fortune cookies???? Give me a break. The only Chinese restaurant I know where I have to pay for fortune cookies. The food is good but Way overpriced! Looks like Ill be finding another Chinese restaurant.

We LOVE ordering from Golden Gate! Their Gate Special noodles (Mei-Fen) are my favourite noodles that I ve ever ordered from a Chinese food restaurant. Their chicken balls are crispy and not overly battered and their black pepper beef and General Tao are amazing. Their portion sizes are a bit small - and not cheap. So I can imagine for a larger family or group it would be very costly. But for us it s still worth it for the amazing food. HIGHLY recommend! Not only do they have dine in, take out (made to order) but they also have a hot table where they have a lot of selection that is ready to go. The team is always kind. Vegetarian options: Great options and quite a few at that!

The fact that theyre conveniently close is what kept me going back here. Not the food! I mean its not the worst but its definitely not the best. However, I placed an order for over $200 and they tried to charge me extra for FORTUNE COOKIES! LOL They will never see a penny from me again! Ill glady take the drive to Golden Pine where the food is actually better and they throw in FREE fortune cookies with any big orders.

The food was good however I was very disappointed that when I actually asked for a fortune cookie, they told me they only give one per dinner. We had two dinners but we paid together so we only got one. Sometimes little things like this go a long way. Both good and bad.

This restaurant had great food and prices when they were at the Five Points Mall. When they moved, the portions were cut in half and the price increased. When I got my order today, the portions again were cut in half, the price was way up and when I opened my Cantonese Noodles, the top of it looked like congealed gravy and the rice was certainly not made fresh. Very disappointed.

I was about to place an order for almost $80 when I was asked if I want to add fortune cookies to my meal for $2.60, so I said, no I dont need extra, they come with my meal, he said no, it now costs $2.60 for a 6 pack of fortune cookies. I was shocked, he said this is how he keeps his cost of food down by charging for fortune cookies. Then he started to get upset and raise his voice to findo it if I want my order or not. I decided to cancel my order that is just shy of $80 and I will take my business elsewhere. I also still have cash cards that they make you buy, and those will be going in garbage. I will not support this restaurant, I was going to go far out of my way for this, and spend decent amount of money, but with the service, which is awful, and now to pay for fortune cookies, I know those are small, but it has always come WITH your meal, as Chinese food is already expensive. Horrible manager on the phone, horrible

Absolutely great! We have been going there since it opened we have never been disappointed. The food is fresh, good variety and always good portions. The staff are terrific and Friendly.

This place makes amazing food. 9/10 Times I have had a good experience. Only thing is they don t seem to bother to wear hair nets and One time I found not 1 but 3 beard hairs in my food. Used to be $8 for a good portion of food now it s more 14-18$ but I guess that s inflation!! Lol

Great service and great food! We always have leftovers for a few days. The best salt and pepper beef steak! We open the container and eat some in our vehicle before we go home to eat the rest. The food is always hot when we pick it up and the family who runs the restaurant goes the extra mile every time! Dietary restrictions: The staff went above and beyond to ensure that my mother in law was safe to eat there food due to her celiac disease.

Big portions sizes, good price, great service. Would not recommend the bubble tea here though, every drink tastes the same because theres not enough flavouring.

Low grade food. All meat dishes 90% vegetables. Bockchoi was all end pieces. Cantonese chowmain was to have pork and chicken. Only a few small pieces of chicken. There must be a better quality Chinese take out in the area. He operates like he has a monopoly.

Best Chinese in Oshawa. I really dont understand why they dont have a better rating on Google. I did find we had to wait longer than quoted once, but it was a BIG order. Other than that it is good, fresh, and delicious every time. One time they forgot something and they brought it out to us plus more! Were pretty loyal now.

This was the best place ever to get Chinese food. Not sure whats happened. First time ever order was wrong (beef broccoli with no broccoli?) Requested sauces were wrong. Ordered 75 minutes prior to requested delivery time and it was still 30+ minutes late. All food cold. Delivery driver stated he could have been on time but was told to wait for other orders that were coming. Not sure we will buy again, sad really as this was my go to for years(15 +).

Didnt try the food. But I can tell you didnt look fresh.. also cashier not following covid protocols. Not wearing gloves... using cash registers and cleaning surface/touching peoples food. Decided no thankyou

Food here is tasty and we were happy to find it after they moved from five points mall years ago. The staff here are amazing. My elderly grandmother came here often when I was young to have someone to talk to, that spoke the same language as her. They were always welcoming and accommodating to her and I really appreciate that. She has since passed on but Im glad the staff here still remember her. Great food and kind hearted people.

Food is decent but I will have to go elsewhere now. I was last here a couple of months ago. The same plate I got then is now SIX dollars more?!?!? I can understand a few bucks rise for food costs but six dollars for the same plate is obscene. Sorry, but I refuse to pay that. Especially when so many other restaurants exist in Durham.

My wife and I purchased a meal # 09 HO fen beef with blackbean garlic sauce last Wednesday. I must report that it was disgusting, unedible, threw it out. Was going to take it back but didnt think it was worth the trip Lorne Williams, Oshawa.

Food was late, cold, no flavourful. Missing sauce for chicken balls, chicken wings were under cooked. Have to pay extra for fortune cookies. For 2 dinner for 1 combo plates costs $70.97 delivered and they are only 10 mins away. Last time I order from here. They did have amazing food and fair prices when they were at 5 points mall. My advice is to find another restaurant.

Our first and last time eating this food, Omg $130 later for the 4B combo .. WHAT A RIPOFF and make it worse the food was spoiled and the chicken was burnt. I highly recommend you don t eat this food my husband got food poisoning this place should not be in business

Now always my go to for Chinese Food. Have tried others over the years but much prefer Golden Gate. I have not eaten inside the new location, only takeout but the food is always good. Its the only place whos egg roles I will eat and they have the best chicken balls.

Usually my go to. Unfortunately the rudeness of the owner in a recent order means I m taking my business elsewhere permanently. Pro tip: If a customer is calling at 6pm to ask where their delivery order they put in at 4:30pm is. Don t be belligerent insisting we were given a delivery time of 8:30-9pm. Own up to the possibility it was miss communicated. A very basic customer service miss, what a shame.

Dishes are prepared with what appears to be their clientele in mind, as they did seem to have a pretty steady traffic flow when I was there. The food was ok but one thing that I wasn t too happy about was how they microwaved the veg/wonton and then added the broth right in front of me - I ve had way too many great soups to consider this as anywhere near good. They also seem to have a buffet style front of the house that they prep based on your selection, seems many who were there opted for that, hence my comment that they seem to be ready for the clientele expectation.

Without a doubt, this the worst chinese food I have ever eaten. The General Tao chicken was bland and without spice. The pork ribs tasted candy coated. The spring rolls were doughy and under cooked. How do you screw up spring rolls? This place sucks dont eat there.

Food is OK. Bubble tea is absolutely awful. I ordered the lemon flavor and there was absolutely no flavor to it, it was like drinking water. They also do not use real fruit. If were rating just the bubble tea I would give it one star but the food really isnt bad... just dont come for the tea.

This restaurant is really bad. They are dishonest. I ordered two 3-items combo dishes. Its 11.99$ each. So the total should be 24$ plus tax. I got a phone call when I tried to pay. I took my credit out, and they saw I was calling, then they pressed the POS button without my permission, as I was on the phone, I just quickly tapped to pay without seeing the amount. They didnt plan to give me the receipt, I asked, then they just gave the receipt of my credit card payment. When I got home, I found I was charged at $30.18. I think they added 20% tips for this take out food. Very dishonest people. Wont go there any more ever.

Ordered at noon for evening delivery, it was awful, battered shrimp was just mush and inedible, general tao chicken was COLDER than room temp, how does that even happen? The chicken fried rice was somehow spicy? Not hot of course, but spicy. Literally the worst Chinese take out any of us have ever had, especially at these prices??

Food tasted great. Klay the delivery guy was very polite and friendly and our food arrived in a fast manner and was still very hot.

Gooey and bland. Like eating slimy marshmellows.

First time ordering take out. Everything was covered in a thick corn starch slim sauce. The noodles had clumps of slim in them. There was no flavor and overly slimy. Meat had a jello slim consistency. Only way to eat this was to wash the slim off and refry it with our own seasonings. Not worth the $90. Better off buying the ingredients from no frills and making your own.

Not worth the cost, you barely get any food for over $60. Hunan Chinese or New Century is way better for the cost!!!! I wont be back! Not to mention I waited over a half an hour for my food ordered at 4:15

My husband and I usually pick up dinner here at least once every 2 weeks or so. Staff is very friendly and the food is really good. If you pay with cash you also receive a discount.

They give you a good amount of food for your moneys worth and a pretty nice staff :) Delivery is very simple, call in and order and they have a full menu online and its very easy to find. Con - They moved from the 5 points mall to there new location which I havent seen in person. So that might not even be a con.

One of Oshawas best Chinese restaurants. Portions are a good size, loads of options and their egg rolls are excellent. All of our local restaurants have been hit hard during Co-Vid 19, Please get out and support these local restaurants.

Food was not as fresh as I thought it would be. Also did not taste the greatest, Manchu Wok is way better. Price was a little steep but portions are pretty good. Bubble tea not very fresh either and the tapioca is refrigerated and reheated in hot water. Over all it was okay. The sweet and sour pork is the best meat choice they have. When you ask for shrimp you only get 2, so I wouldnt suggest getting it.

Came here to give it a try ... huge mistake Rice wasn t even warm. Both general Tai chicken and sesame chicken was just mush sitting in oil. Totally unfortunate for this place. I urge you to reconsider this place

I just went here for my first time today and the food was a little bit expensive but not too bad. But the lady who cashed me out tried to short me $3 when she gave me my change back. And if I hadnt of said anything, she would have kept the money. Not impressed. Probably wont go there again solely based on the fact that she tried to short me my own money back.

Just went in quick late night dinner just before closing and let me tell you we have never met a more friendly person then the man who served us! As we were in very close to their closing time they were low on some items but without question he had some fresh rice and noodles made just for us even though we would likely be his last customers, he was so friendly chatting with us as we waited and they give extremely generous portions of food here always, definitely worth the money, great food and amazing service!

Best Chinese food in the area.

This has been my familys go to Chinese buffet and take-out for 30 years. As far as Im concerned its the best there is. Subjective Im sure, but thats how things go with these type of places. Isnt it? Everything is very tasty, but stand outs on the menu for me are their barbecue chicken wings and Cantonese chow mein. The egg rolls are also amazing. If you havent tried their food before, definitely order from here next time your family is having Chinese takeout.

If you don t like bubble tea watery I recommend getting a bubble tea slush or smoothie Btw they use powder not real fruit (real fruit bubble tea is better check it out) Their tapioca has a funny taste ( real fruit bible makes their stuff really fresh with real fruits and fresh mad there tapioca

Good value for price and the staff was very nice. The menu features a good mix of American style Chinese food as well as, to my surprise, a few authentic Chinese options as well. I had the three piece combo having picked Mango chicken, char siu and lo Mein to get a nice mix of Authentic and American style Chinese food. The char siu was the best Ive had outside of Toronto and even compared to choices in Toronto it was very competitive. The chicken was nice as well, as was the lo Mein. The meat serving size on the combo was very large and even as a big guy I struggled a little bit to finish it. They offered dim sum as well, though I myself had none it looked very fresh and tasty. Next time I plan on having some of their har gow and siu Mai for sure!

This restaurant use to be a favorite of our family, now I wouldnt even call it a buffet anymore. Nothing like how it use to be in Whitby or even how it use to be at the Fve Points. Price is rediculous as well.

This place is completely out to lunch!! Went with my son, ordered a small container of rice and a container with 4 items for myself and 1 egg roll (which is an additional cost by the way!!) And it was 26.00!!!!!!! Really!!! I could go to kingsway buffet for all you can eat for a fraction of the cost and the egg rolls are INCLUDED IN THE COST!!! FIRST TIME TRYING THIS PLACE AND IT WILL DEFINITELY BE THE LAST!!!! Good luck to this place!! RIP OFF!!!

Over priced Chinese food that was not delicious or authentic. Save your money and go to Thai Hot Spot across the road for more reasonably priced Asian food that is way better quality... 4 dishes cost me $60... Sechewan beef had 3 pieces of meat in it and cost $13.50... Never coming back here again

Mediocre food, high prices and a poor ordering system. It looks like theyre paying people for good reviews now too. I was looking forward to this place reopening at townline, after the Five Points Malls closure, and kept checking to see if the open sign had been put out. Then, when I saw that it had opened, I talked my family into going there for a weekend meal, hoping that it would end up becoming my go to for Chinese in the Courtice/East Oshawa area. Unfortunately, it did not and will not. It was absolutely nothing to write home about. I ate at Golden Gate Buffet in the former Five Points Mall occasionally. I didnt live near it, and when Id go to that mall Id usually go to one of the best restaurants in Oshawa: Mommas Family Restaurant, which is sadly gone. There were times, however, where my family would go for Chinese there if we were in the area and felt like that, and I treated myself to it once while Christmas shopping last year. The food at Golden Gate Buffet was generally pretty good. It wasnt the best Chinese Id ever had, but it was pretty decent buffet quality and a slightly cheaper alternative to Mandarin. When I walked into the new Golden Gate Eatery & Takeout on King St. this past weekend, I was surprised to see there was no buffet (but had wondered because of the name change), and didnt like the way its set up. You have to wait in line, pick a meal type (two items, three items, as much or as little as you can eat at $1.99 per weighed 100 grams), then they dish the food up for you. People jumped ahead of me, there was confusion as to who would go next, and it wasnt an enjoyable experience. The man who served us was very nice, but he was also coughing while ringing up my fathers order. He coughed downward on more than one occasion, towards the counter where my dads food container was sitting open. I found that disgusting, to say the least. I ordered the all you can eat style meal, which came to about $15. It was somewhat filling, but not as good or as filling as I had hoped. I miss the buffet where I can get my own food and not have to worry about it being weighed or being stuck with the amount I originally picked. I wouldve liked a bit more, but wouldve had to have lined up and purchased an entirely new meal. The food? It was alright. Theres much better Chinese food to be found, but its decent. I wouldnt rush to go back for the food, itself. Its too expensive and isnt anything special, quality wise. I mean, for maybe 3/5 of what we paid, we couldve got a meal for 2 from Tang Dynasty or Win Yeung Garden in Bowmanville, been full (with 3 or 4 people eating) and had leftovers. What surprised me was that since I wasnt asked if I wanted a drink, when I waited (for other people to get their food) and then went back to ask for water, I was told that they dont serve cups of water. What kind of Chinese food restaurant doesnt? They offered me pop, but wed already paid and I didnt want to buy anything more. All I wanted was a glass of water, which is very common in any Chinese food restaurant outside of this one. Something I also think will really bother people is the way this restaurant is set up. Ive already mentioned the ordering system. Well, its a takeout style restaurant that has a decent amount of seating, too. Yet, instead of using plates or dishes, ALL EAT IN FOOD is given in styrofoam plates and containers. Needless to say, this place is going to be the king of non-recyclable trash, and its unnecessary, completely bypassing their modern approach. The containers also can be difficult to eat out of if rice falls into the cracks, leading to perhaps just small amounts of food waste, but food waste nonetheless. I get that the storefront is smaller, buffets take up space and that buffets are costly, but this restaurant was really underwhelming. Id rather drive to Bowmanville and get Chinese from the restaurants there. Tang Dynasty and Win Yeung Garden offer better food and more value. I wont be going back anytime soon, if at all.

Best Chinese in Durham. We have tried so many places but, Goldengate is old faithful. They are clean and the food is so good. pleasant staff.

Portion is the same as going to any food court. Prices are the same also. All chicken entries taste the same and way to much salt. I was starving and could not even finish my meal because of the salt! 1 star is lowest I can give as there is no lower star or one that says don t go !
