Hong Kong House Restaurant Oshawa in Oshawa

I decided to treat myself to the Chinese food I was craving, and ordered from Hong Kong House while I shoveled snow. It arrived just as I finished shoveling, and I ate it right away. I ordered from this place to try it out, and because it was the cheapest. One of the apps offered a good deal, so I went with it. Now, I kind of wish I had gone with something different. Overall, the food was fine. It s paint by numbers Chinese food, and nothing stood out. I ordered the dinner for two, but chose the variation that didn t have spareribs because I don t know why anyone would want those. The only other option was a vegetable dish. Well, that was unfortunately mostly giant chunks of broccoli and a few other vegetables like a couple small pieces of carrot, a couple slices of onion and a few pieces of bok choy. This is something I ve noticed with A1 Delights. That is, restaurants filling takeout containers with massive chunks of broccoli because it s cheap. I don t know about you, but I don t think of a whole tree of broccoli when I think of Chinese food. I ate a bunch of it, but didn t love it. I could ve made that at home for $2. The rice was plentiful, but had little taste. The chicken balls were big, but a bit tough and underwhelming. Lastly, the egg roll was fine. It didn t stand out. I didn t have a way to pick up from Golden Pine, and was too cheap to order from Family Wok. The reviews were good for this place, but I ve learned a lesson.

Parking: Best chili chicken in or around Durham. Reasonable prices and great quality Food

The place has changed owners and they made the eating area much smaller very bright and clean. The food portions are getting smaller and smaller. The egg rolls now have cabbage and pork in them so I am not a big fan of this change. Even the chicken balls and lemon chicken sauce is now half size.

We ordered dinner for 2 ,the chop soey had no flavour,the lemon chicken was hard could not chew it and the egg roll was very greasy ,was disappointed it used to be out of this world.

Ordered onnline thru door dash. Specifically said deliver to apatment. Driver had called once, then we never heard from him again. Door Dash told us to call the restaurant. He was rude and screamed at me. So at this point I still have no food. Found it in the lobby. It was cold and as hard as a rock. $100 of food in the garbage. Never again

I have ate here before food was delicious, but this time the food was disgusting I got chicken chow main the chicken was awful could not cut it or chew it chicken was like rubber. My husband got chicken balls and they were the same. I was very disappointed.

Food and portion sizes were great. Ordered 5 dishes and spring rolls and it was fresh, hot and tasty. The general Tao had a nice kick.

Best Chinese takeout around. The chicken balls and egg rolls are crispy, and portion sizes are large. A dinner for 1 will let for 2 meals.

I went with my mom when we were in Oshawa for a doctors appointment. The potions were huge, and we took some to go noodle dish and wing, and there was enough to feed four people. Definitely would go back.

Check your order. They forgot chicken wings are tried to tell us that us that we only ordered one when we didn t. They literally circled that there were two orders on the receipt and then still gave us one. Then they proceeded to tell us to come back and pick it up. Terrible customer service. Had to ask them multiple times to compensate somehow, and they were hesitant. Terrible food. Was much better when the previous owner owned this place.

Ordered abt 100$ and 2 itens of wings missing an they took phone off the hook(understand as its busy ) an not answering i dont drive to go there Miss the old owners food had more flavor and they took time cared about the food ..the noodles cold overcooked and tasteless as the rest had no spice /flavor at all not even the beef big disapointment

The prices are great, the portions are fair. Not all photos are what you get ( breaded shrimp) even tho its similar but not identical styles it was still good. I am a perfectionist so its just me to pick at this for anyone else the same. There are exceptions for combo altering and its lunch style sizes and if you pay extra $2 you get dinner portions and it only costs $8 to $9.99 as the lunch size. Definitely a budget wise choice. Food taste is okay. Chilli chicken portion is small for the price. The noodle shrimp has pretty good size and good amount of shrimp. Overall is an okay taste food. Might order from them again if there is no other choices.

Theres a reason this place has been around forever. When you need a fix of chicken balls and that lovely sauce, you just order from the place that is consistent and no one complains. I recommend delivery.

Honestly first time here. Food came out was very large portions. Super tasty. We were the only ones in there as the nice gentleman at the counter was saying they mostly do take out now. I loved the fact they still used the fancy fortune cookies and the best chili sauce packets as a lot had switched over to some which are more sugar then chili paste

Ive ordered from this place a lot from delivery services, but this was the first time I ate in person. There was a lot of available parking and seating when I ate (shortly after opening). Service was very prompt, and food portions were very large for the price (I had to take some home to eat later). The chicken balls especially were very savoury. Will come back again if I felt the craving.

Most of the food was either overcooked, dried out or tasteless. Although, the sweet and sour pork and the egg roll were good. Most of the rest of it went in the garbage. Usually I really like the food here. The quality of food here has seriously deteriorated while the prices have skyrocketed. This is my opinion based on the order I received last compared to what I usually receive.

Not happy with the man on the phone, he wants to charge me extra for hot mustard sauce, I tell him I dont want the soy sauce and to substitute but he still want to charge me money. How I eat ten egg roll with 5 plum sauce and wont switch soy sauce with mustard unless pay mo money. Cheap, make customers happier and they come back. All I ask for was for a little bit of extra sauce. I also hear he run a Chinese girl trade to order per hour. Not very nice. 1 Star. Only.

Delivery ordered Food at 4:07 they said half hour to an hour still didnt receive it at 5:30 so I called and was told they were waiting for another cause it was in my area, which will be another hour because Im north Oshawa not very happy, they were my favorite Chinese restaurant so needless say Im not tipping the driver sorry!

Ive been through most Hong Kong houses the best they call me chicken ball man lol but they have the best Ive been around they give you the best variety for the cost and the customer service is amazing.. chicken ball man aka Mr Lee approves

I had ordered take out and I was a bit disappointed. I had ordered one of the combo meals but it was half covered in plum sauce. I cant eat plum sauce, which was a disappointment because the portion size was huge and the chicken balls were the good old fashioned big instead of the tiny ones you see now. I was excited to try it and enjoy some nostalgia. I was only able to eat the rice because the rest of the food got covered in plum sauce too. The rice was delicious and the prices were fantastic but I would appreciate it if they started to serve the plum sauce in another container for others that cant eat it. To which I do have to take some of the blame for just assuming it would be on the side but I hadnt known. Next time Ill ask and hope for none to be found. Beside that, I would recommend Hong Kong house to anyone that loves Chinese food at fantastic prices and old fashioned portions. You really wont be disappointed if you do but unlike me, ask for the plum sauce in another container if you dont like it too!

Absolute stupidity and greed. Restaurant took our order at 4:30 and at 7:00 was told its still 40 minutes from being ready. Anyone so greedy to take orders they know they cant fill doesnt deserve the a penny and I can only hope they go out of business in short order. All the absolute worst to this place, save yourself the time and aggravation of having a meal with friends or family ruined when they dont deliver what you order. Trash restaurant run by trash people with no sense of decency. If youre reading this and considering ordering from them, pour yourself a big glass of water and enjoy that, cause its the most substantive thing youll be enjoying tonight.

Honestly, was so looking forward to Chinese food, and then ate this and was so disappointed. Fried rice was gross tastes like burnt oil, sweet and sour sauce was basically water, sweet and sour pork also tatted like burnt oil. And the veggies were basically raw. Only okay thing was the chicken balls and that s pushing. Do yourself a favour and save your money.

This used to be a favorite for our family. Unfortunately the last 2 times have been very dissapointing. Not sure if its a different owner or different food supplier but food really went down in quality. Such a shame.

Tonight I placed my order and they didn t send an item we ordered, so I called and the girl remembered taking my order so she asked her boss about the item and he said it wasn t in the system and was yelling all while I m on the phone listening. The boss refused to fix the mistake. The other food wasn t good either. I wish the old staff was there. It s sad that it s gone down hill.

Under new management. They have renovated and refreshed the entire interior. The food is different from the old owners but is very good and had a focus on fresher ingredients. Overall a great improvement over past experiences and I would definitely recommend giving it a try if youve been disappointed in the past.

I ordered delivery for my Nana. Once recieved she called me very upset and let me know that the food that she recieved seemed as if it had been old and was dry, especially the chicken fried rice which was also hard. She told me that she had called to rectify and was hung up with by the manager and told not to come back. I called to discuss and was told that yes it was possible that the food was not fresh. I was put on hold while they spoke to the manager. They accidentally took me off hold and I heard the manager say , if they arent happy tell them not to come back. When he returned to the phone he said there was nothing they could do. I let him know I overheard the manager and he maintained that there was nothing he could do. My family has been ordering from this restaurant for 15 plus years. We have noticed that the quality has been diminishing recently but have not bothered to call to complain. I think perhaps the old owners (who were great people!) Have sold. Needless to say we will never order from here again. Looking for a new staple Chinese food restaurant

Went there today to learn Peter has retired. The restaurant has changed as has the food. We want to wish Peter a wonderful retirement . As for our order today, it was okay but the taste has changed.

I have been ordering food from this restaurant for over 35 yrs. Today I ordered from this restaurant with new owners. Placed my order and not told how long it would take. Most often it was usually 1 hour. Today after 1 1/2 hrs I called and they said alot of orders came in after mine it would be another 30 minutes as we are farther away. We live 12 mins from the restaurant. Not happy should have been told up front. Will not order from here again.

Restaurant refused to provide any cutlery with my take out order, advising they dont do that. Had to use my fingers like I was on Survivor. Im a big hot and sour soup fan but theirs was the worst thing Ive ever tasted. Very bad first experience.

I ordered the beef chow mien and the general tso chicken. What I received was not chow mein but in fact chop suey(basically just bean sprouts). I called to get a replacement offering to drive back to exchange the food for what I ordered. The lady on the phone tried to tell me that no it was I that was wrong and that they consider chop suey and chow mein to be the same thing, definitely false. She said there was nothing she could do for me. I asked to speak to the manager and he said the same thing but this time offering to sell me what I ordered in the first place. On top of that the General tso chicken was too sweet and had too much sauce on them. I am not one to complain about restaurants. This is the first review I ve ever made. However in this case the Abysmal customer service and poor food quality was too much to ignore. They will never see my business again. I urge you to look elsewhere for Chinese food.

Had ordered last month for my daughters bday, everyone raved about the food. It was hot upon delivery good portion sizes, fair prices, good selection. Will order again in the future.

Tried this place for takeout lunch for the first time. Parking lot was packed very early so I thought that was a good sign. I got the last parking spot and went inside only to find very few customers in there. The restaurant must rent out parking spots (most of them) given their proximity to downtown Oshawa. A lady who came in after me said she had to double park. Anyway I ordered a lunch special and it tasted just fine. Restaurant was a little messy and in need of a refresh. Overall I prefer the other such restaurants nearby.

First, let me say its the first and last time I will order from Hong Kong restaurant! I literally placed an order and picked up the food about an hour ago. The restuarant was completely empty!!! I ordered chicken fried rice and bbq pork fried rice, and two chicken lowmein. The chicken lowmein is not what Im use to buying elsewhere, this was thin white egg noodle mixed up with broccoli, pieces of white chicken, onions and celery. It had no color! Didnt taste bad, was edible. The rice however, as soon as I uncovered the fried rice it smelled like the rice had gone bad. When I tried it tasted exactly the way it smelt. It was not freshly cooked. Its not even day old from the smell, its probably two day old rice. My order was $41. I called and told the owner about the rice. His response was ....oh, shouldnt be, we make lots of this rice today . I replied saying ...Sir, with all due respect, this rice is not fresh or even a day old. He replies...ok, I give u credit next time u come, ok? My response was, Ill never order food from you again. Its so hard to find good Chinese food. I normally go to Rice to Go but theyre closed till the 27th of January. Which is how I ended up at hong kong restaurant. Unacceptable standard in food. Now I know y it was devoid of a single customer. Beware people beware.

So the place doesnt look so pretty. The decore definitely needs a make over. The man who takes your order comes across very abrupt ok so he isnt friendly . What really matters is the quality of the food The food is excellent for the price I have never been dissapointed. The portions are great. You get a lot for the price.

Apparently if you order 1 main dish on its own, it comes with a free steamed rice. If you order 2 main dishes, the food doesnt come with free rice anymore?!? Someone PLEASE explain the logic of this menu to me.

WOW people told me how good this place was...Wrong, first time i went there was 1/2 ago... Order Beef Fried Rice, got alot of brown rice, 6 very small pieces of beef... Weve been ordering from the Hong Kong House for 14 years and just bought our lat meal from them. Our vegetable fried rice had maybe a dozen pieces of bean sprouts and half a small mushroom. The vegetable noodles had NOTHING, and I mean no vegetables in it at all. The vegetable Chop Suey, well its made from bean sprouts and you might find a couple of small pieces of celery an carrot. Aside from the shrimp Id say I could have made the rest of the meal for under $2.00. Look for other options because the declining quality is at an all time low.

this is a very busy DQ and to manage all the employees and customers requires a special manager. Tim has been here for the many years we have stopped for hot dogs and malts and never had a problem. We honestly look for Tims car in the parking lot so we can say hi.

Food was decent. Would NEVER order from here again. I ordered chicken Chow Mein and got chicken chop suey. When I called to let them know, the man was incredibly rude and argued with me. I have always seen this place but never tried it for some reason, yet today I did! The food is delicious, the service is friendly and it is a well-balanced and nutritious meal. Will come more often from now on. :)

Best Cantonese Chow Mein ever!

Amazing food, this restaurant looks like a little hole in the wall kind of place, and the appearance does not do it justice, this is hands down the best Chinese food I have ever had. I drive past quite a few other places, and go way out of my way to order from here. Its the best. The same guy working the front has been there since I was a kid, may not seem overly friendly, but dont be fooled, hes a great guy, and runs a fantastic kitchen. THE BEST TAKE OUT I HAVE EVER HAD!!!!

If i could give a review and give no stars i would my husband and i got married in 2017 at the church right accross we ordered 700$ worth of food and they charged us 70$ to deliver next door we let it go because the food is good. tonight my husband and i ordered and it was absolutly horrible my kids wouldnt even eat it so we called to see if they cpuld remake our 50$ order and the guy tells us that he dosnt care we will have to bring it back even know we paid for delivery. It was horrible i am so disgusted in the food and how they would act. So now my husband has to walk our food all the way there because these people want to be so ignorant. WILL NEVER ORDER FROM THERE AGAIN.!!!!!!
