Just had a great experience at their grand opening. Amazing staff, and some really good specialty items only at their Oshawa location currently

I had only bought from this restaurant once - about 3 years ago. I never went back because I wasnt that impressed with the food, but I decided to give it another try. The rice tasted like it was a week old, and there was no flavour at all to the jerk chicken and oxtail. Everything tasted stale. We had to throw it out. What a waste of 15 minutes and 45 dollars. I will never buy from this restaurant again!

my first time ordering was last week and everything was amazing. Because it was so good I decided to order the sane thing this weekend and boy was I disappointed my roti was soooooo dry I had to make my own gravy. The corn soup last week was so flavourful, the one I got today was terrible. My wife got the chicken roti and it had the same results dry so dry. please do better

I feel like this place is very indecisive on if they would like to have good food or good service. Sometimes the food is garbage but service is okay. I have an issues with rude servers and food that could fill me or kill me. Please fix this!!

A kids party was going on throughout the entire restaurant . No staff to be found, and it smelled bad. Honestly, I thought I was going to be sick to my stomach. Im so glad I didnt order anything from this location. Went to a different location and had an ok experience. To be honest, I only enjoyed my time at the other location in pickering because of the company I had with me. The pickering location has poor customer service, but thank heaven, the food actually tastes nice. To answer your question, it smelled like rancid cheese.

Having dinner with friends and family at least once or twice a month at Island Mix has always been a pleasure due to the consistently great food. However, tonight was disappointing because Danielles service as our waitress did not meet the expected standards. She took the drinks order and waited a while for the bar to prepare without taking the food or appetizer orders. When the wine finally came, the glass had stains on one side and had to be replaced. As she delivered the food, she broke a glass wine decanter. The food (black beans chicken and chicken fried rice) was worth the twenty kilometres drive. My wife ordered some more wine and water while we ate. Danielle visited a neighboring table without checking on us. She never came back with the water or wine as we completed our meal. We canceled the wine and walked up to the counter to pay. I wanted to give her some feedback about her service, which was not what I expected, and she started to say that I didnt know what time she started, how many people she had served (from a recently departed party), or how many hours she had been working, etc. I asked to speak to Dhillion, who had to caution her that he would address my concerns while she was trying to defend herself around the corner. Island Mix should train their servers to be more accommodating to their customers if they want their continued support.

It was our first time ordering from this location, the food tasted and was made way better than the Pickering location. The chicken fried rice, hot wings and doubles tasted great, my family enjoyed the meal. It was good portions for the cost, we will definitely be a returning customer. I recommend giving them a try!!

The pepper shrimp and Chow Mein is never a miss! Must try!

We walked in to the restaurant waiting for a waitress to come seat us but they just looked at us like we were robbing the place. We finally sit down and right away our waitress was being extremely rude and she made it seem like we were doing something wrong. We ordered fried shrimp wontons because my husband doesn t eat meat. It comes and he ate it and after the fact we find out that they accidentally served us chicken wontons. They just walked away with no apology from no one. Before that we had to beg them down for plates. Btw the restaurant was completely empty meanwhile the waitress was acting like it was packed. The waitresss just sat in the back of the restaurant like it was their house . We had to call them over every time and they would walk over with a stink attitude. Would never recommend to anyone. My dinner was ruined and my night was ruined. Our servers name was Candice.

We dined in May 2nd and the food was amazing.. Alexandra was our server and provided perfect service, Wings, Pepper Shrimp, Doubles & Island Mix Fried Rice everything was delicious and Alexandra made our dine in experience Fantastic! Thank you & will be returning soon!

Went in there, and was served by Alex. Super polite and really great attitude. Was pleased with the way my mixed drinks turned out and loved the music playing. She was super busy but never left me too long without checking on me. I was so pleased with the service I received and would definitely come back. Thank you!!

Visited island mix and had the pleasure of being served my Alex. Let me say, her service is by far the best I have received in a long time. She is incredibly friendly and has lots of knowledge about the menu and cocktails. She made me a special drink, which was impeccable. Even during a rush, she never failed to check on our table and ensure that we were okay. I have visited this place before (and many others) and no server is as attentive as this girl. Her positive attitude made the dining experience even that much better!! I will definitely return

I love that there is a little taste of Guyana in the Whitby/Oshawa area! The other Guyanese-chinese restaurants in Durham, are in Pickering and Ajax which is a bit out of the way. Food is fresh and tasty. I definitely recommend this location!

Service was horrible! Alexandra served us, and she had nothing but attitude. Food came out late and food was cold. She was too busy flirting with men and not paying attention to service the other customers. She failed to clean up tables. Instead, she was drinking at the bar with men who were her friends.

I was in at island mix tonight watching the basketball game with my girlfriend. We had Alexandra serve us up some delicious drinks and food. She was so friendly and attentive to our every need. We will definitely be back to see her again and the great atmosphere at island mix. Cheers.

We had a birthday party here for my Dad and I cannot speak more highly about the staff. They were all so attentive and kind. The food was great and the service to accommodate us was amazing. The space was perfect for our event. I definately recommend checking this restaurant out!

This evening we had a 60th Birthday party @ Island mix Oshawa and let me tell you AMAZING service! Food came out on time, and was enjoyed by all our guests. Hidden gem in Oshawa that s opened late. The cocktails were expertly crafted, complementing the delicious dishes perfectly. The lively music added an authentic and enjoyable touch to the overall experience.

This place is always a miss for me. Always something going on and half trained clueless workers. They DONT SERVE CARRIBEAN FOOD anymore but theres no mention on the google or anywhere. Waste of my time and drive. Change your name to Asian mix maybe

We had a 65th birthday party and the manager and staff went over and above getting the venue ready; to the decor, the food, hospitality and the music. Would highly recommend having any special occasion at Island Mix! The food was delicious! Thank you so much to Earl and staff for making our special night incredible!!

Came here for lunch with husband and we were very pleased. He had the beef fried rice, I had the chicken fried rice, as they didn t have West Indian delicacies at that time of day. The food was tasty and such a large portion for a great price, about $14 after tax. The restaurant has a nice vibe, big space and very clean, a good location to watch sports with the guys or have a casual date. I look forward to going again.

First and last time I ll order here. I ordered the stewed snapper. Fish appeared coated in a batter and almost looked deep fried. The sauce tasted like tomato sauce. It was $35 as a takeaway order. So bad that i had to throw the entire meal in the compost. The servers were nice when I picked up the food. That s the only positive feedback I can provide.

Had lunch there earlier this week. First customer of the day. Peas and rice was part of my meal which was spoilt. Waitress came back and reported the cook apparently tasted it and agreed it was off and a new batch was being cooked. What good is that after serving a customer rice from the day before or maybe days ago. Was very nice to the Waitress as it was not her fault. The cook never came out to apologize. Never a problem at the Pickering location. Will not recommend or go there again.

My wife and I stopped in for a drink and a bite on Wednesday April 6th evening. She ordered a Pineapple Mojito. The person who made the drink didnt have a clue of what a mojito is. No ice, no mint, no lime althought the ingredients is listed in the drink menu. Disappointed

I walked into the store the workers were not doing urgent work workers didn t acknowledge my existent nor did they offer a menu; as I was unsure about how to order as there was no service. After around 10 minutes of waiting nobody came and I left, your workers are disrespectful and clearly don t know how to have service jobs.

My family and I entered the establishment and two workers were inside. One was cleaning the spoons and the other was standing. Neither of them greeted or acknowledged us. We sat down and waited for someone to take our food order but no one came. We felt unwelcome, so we left. The customer service needs a refreshment course.

I recently visited this restaurant and was extremely disappointed with the customer service. The staff seemed uninterested in helping us and declined to take our orders.

I cant believe it. I went there a couple weeks ago and Im still thinking of this place. Everything was great the food, service and atmosphere.

I was surprised to not see many people eating in as the food was amazing and delicious but I did see a lot of take out going out so maybe most people order in. Either way you will not be disappointed. We also had the kindest server.

Ive gone to the Vaughan location for years and decided to try the Oshawa location finally. I ordered the General Tso Chicken platter and Special Chicken Chowmein. The food was good and no complaints about it. The order got mixed up but was rectified quickly and easily with no issues. Please give this location a try. I would say dine in first before doing take out.

Worst customer service

Worse customer service ever. We had to seat ourselves. They didnt even acknowledge us. After sitting there for 10 minutes, we got up and left. Not sure how they run a business, but theyre not getting any of ours ever again!

Love the quality of the food

I was longing for the taste of the island (GT/TNT). On weekends I always found myself eating fried rice or noodles with chicken on top. My tummy is overjoyed to have found this gem. I also love the fact I can have the option of not having shrimp in my meals, because I am allergic. Oh yes, the meal I got was noodles, chicken on top, and jerk chicken wings... Yum! Lastly, the fried rice is really good you must try.

I just called to order a shrimp chow main and a chicken wings I asked if I can have my wings hot and honey mix as I have done at this location before the lady was rude and said we dont do that I then told her I have had this done at this location before as I am walking distance away. She then said let me ask the chef and put me on hold and didnt come back Im calling back and she is ignoring my call ...Im not one to write reviews but this was rude... And Ive been a bartender for 10 + years if this job aintfor you does not give you the right to deal with ppl like that... Mind you everyone has their days but she was just rude..

Love the beef curry fried rice

I recently bought 2 paratha roti and 2 dhalpuri, still sitting in the fridge to throw out! Im not sure whos making the roti but it was horrible! Everything else is good parathas looked like it didnt have enough baking powder and wasnt buss up shot! Thats for sure! Dhalpuri looked as if it was microwave ..very disappointed. I usually dont buy roti skins from here, but I didnt feel like driving to Ajax. Please improve your roti.

I really enjoyed the family friendly atmosphere of this place. However, the curry was watered down. The jerk chicken was served in watered down jerk chicken sauce. The noodles were good though! I just hope they stop watering down the food- it s noticeable. I really wanted this restaurant to be good, I m going to convince my husband to give it another try.

The food is good, but it not consistent. Ive had some issues and Ive had some okay experiences with them. The price point is way too high to eat here regularly and they are inconsistent.

First time trying this place the other day and honestly I m in love. I got the spicy garlic shrimp which is a must no matter what I d give that a 10/10 any day I also got jerk chicken on salad for that I d give it an honest 7/10 only because I felt the chicken was a bit to dry. Over all taste for the food is 100% amazing and I d definitely come back to try it more

Ive been going to Island Mixx since it opened back when in Pickering and always loved the brand, staff and food. However, Ive noticed that the prices have gone up substantially. Although, I understand that costs have gone up, my family of 4 and I bought an order of pepper shrimp (10) , shrimp wontons (8), special chicken fried rice, and the jerk chicken salad came up to about 72$ and they were still left hungry. 17$ for pepper shrimp is very steep. Food costs are typically about 70/30. Im sure that management will mention that costs are high, but its hard to justify the pricing. Just some feedback.

Customer service is worst in this place and the order takes too long to finish. Why do they accept the orders if cant deliver it on time

Great food. Had the Spicy Garlic chicken, shrimp fried rice and pepper shrimp. Enjoyed it! Service was good. Friendly. It was clean and well lit. Good music and atmosphere. Good little date night spot or place to meet friends for a drink and jokes.

I have always been a fan of the Pickering location, red chicken and island rice was always great. recently we moved and started ordering from the oshawa location.. service is generally good, if I order ahead I never wait long. I know times are tough for the restaurant industry so I can let the rise in prices go if food quality is there... but this location.. we will likely not go back. We have ordered from them now multiple times and we now know its not just an off night or an anomaly.. the island mix rice AND the rice and peas has a funky smell.. like its starting to sour or they use old rice the curry goat is watery and bland and last night we had the sizzling beef and it was also bland, roti wasnt fresh..sigh.. so disappointed.

I am so disappointed!!! I order from here all the time but this was the first time i ordered doubles and this is what I got. I ordered 2 and theyre both the same! When i called and spoke to the manager, he was nice and he said he spoke to someone in the kitchen apparently this is how much channa they were told to put in the barra! I am not happy!

Weve gone to this restaurant for years in Pickering before the Oshawa location existed. Just bought a fried rice and a beef with broccoli and those 2 items cost $40. It wasnt like this before the new year and you can get at least 3 dishes from any other other west Indian restaurant for the same amount of money. Sorry but between that and the watered down curry Island Mix lost us. Their service is great, taste of their West Indian Chinese food is awesome, and they have a beautiful Oshawa location. Not worth it though paying $40 for 2 dishes and a curry that is hard to enjoy.

Inside was nicely laid out. They carry a wide variety of carribean dishes. The favorites that you love from the carribean, you can find it there. The staff there were very friendly and patient. If you are in the Whitby or Oshawa area. It is in close proximity and easy access from Kings St. Drop by today.

Worst food I ve bought. Vegetable rice was burnt, vegetable consisted of a few pcs of cabbage and I added shrimp for $4.50 and got 5 tiny pcs of shrimp. All together very disappointing

I am very disappointed in the food this place serves for people to eat. Very stale, watery curry as if they added water to fill the container, the roti was like 5 days old as if they took it from the freezer and heated it, parata felt like pita bread. Chicken wings were raw and chunky, goat curry was rubbery in curry water. I did a take out on my way home , If I wasn t living far from this restaurant I would return the food. These kind of things makes me feel guilty for throwing my money away

Terrible service . I placed an order on their website using the silverware app and received an order confirmation with an ETA. I drove all the way to their restaurant to pick up the order only to find out that they didn t receive it and the kitchen was closed. All they could say was sorry we ve been experiencing issues with online orders . This is Absolutely unacceptable and unprofessional. If the ordering app is not working remove it from your website! I will not be ordering from this restaurant again.

The drinks were too sweet, the special chicken fried rice had alot of fine bones in it. The chicken wontons were burnt. Not a great first impression

The doubles were terrible and it almost made me want to throw up. The doubles I saw I wouldnt call doubles. The oxtail was alright I guess but the food wasnt good at all tbh.

For a new restaurant, their food was not fresh. The fried rice was like little pebbles and the chicken was dry. The wings were tiny but alright. Over priced as well.

We just ordered tonight and it was amazing. My husband had often gone to the one in Pickering and he was excited to see one opened up near us. We ordered chow mein, sweet and sour chicken, jerk chicken and doubles. I absolutley love the sweet and sour chicken but everything else was really good as well.the price for all this food was good as well. A family of 5 and we have left overs for lunch. We will be back.

I had a great feeling when I saw how island mix had opened up in the east . Dinner was as expected. Delicious, plentiful and cooked to perfection ! I really enjoyed my experience!

I got home with my familys take out order, only to discover that eggs were used in my vegan dish. I called them at 813pm and the manager went out of his way to fix this for me. The restaurant closed at 8, but they stayed to make me a new dish. I was very impressed with how much they cared to make it right. Thank you Island Mix Oshawa!

Ordered the special chicken fried rice, pholourie and double. The chicken fried rice was sub par, and the double was awful. Although the pholourie was excellent. Would not recommend this restaurant. Mind you I have only had one other similar restaurant to compare this to.

had the curry chicken and rice very bland not very good at all if I could put in in terms it was equivalent to McDonalds serving it . suppose to have some flavor and spice and not everyone is going to be able to eat it . island mix killed it a toddler could eat it absolutely no flavor or spice. I gave them because the portion size of the rice was huge

Chili chicken and fried rice is so tasty and the doubles are so yummy!!! Have also tried their beef and chicken noodles and their wings are tasty as well. Staff is friendly and service is great!! Recommend trying their food!!!

WHAT HAPPENED??? My daughter orders from the Pickering location all the time and the food is amazing. I ordered boneless curried chicken, rice and peas and a MIXED GREENS salad. 1. The rice smells off, like its been sitting in the pot too long and is about to turn sour. 2. The curry gravy is watery and thats exactly how it tastes - watered-down. 3. The salad is clearly iceberg lettuce, which I cant stand. Im Guyanese/Jamaican, I know good West Indian food; this was not it.

I ordered 2 house fried rice and the rice was hard .. I just called and spoke with Brian about it and his response was I sold 183 portions of fried rice and no one complained .. I spent $80 on food there and this is the second time. I usually buy in Pickering and would have taken ownership on this but not this location I guess.. it is all based on how much rice was sold ?

Let me start by saying that I understand the restaurant industry is hurting right now and staffing is a problem, I m just going to describe my experience and let you judge for yourself. I placed an online order for pickup at 4:30pm and was informed at the time of ordering that it wouldn t be ready until 5:30pm. My initial reaction was that an hour is a long time but decided to go ahead with it anyway. I arrived at the restaurant at 5:20 and waited about 5 minutes before I was acknowledged. While I waited, I observed one staff member massaging another staff member behind the bar. Another staff member walked by me and didn t even look my way. Eventually, someone came over to greet me. I was informed my order would not be ready until 5:30; I didn t actually get it until 5:35. I ordered the jerk chicken with rice and peas, overall, the meal was delicious although the chicken was slightly overdone. The seasoning was delicious and the rice and peas were tasty as well. I have to add that there were no customers dining at the restaurant either indoors or out when I arrived so I guess their takeout business is thriving. My service experience was questionable however my meal experience was satisfactory. Four stars might be a little high but I didn t think three was fair.

Update from my previous review. Ordered fried rice and wings. Wings are good, cooked well and good portion. Fried Rice is better than when I first ordered, I hope this helps anyone who ordered when they first opened to now. Did not try the chow mein this time(last time they cooked it with pepper), but may try it in the future and I will update the review then.

If I could give 0 stars I would! Terrible management and customer service! The manager has zero care for customers and puts profits before people. He expects us to eat with our hands after indicated multiple times to include proper utensils. Ordered a corn soup & was at the bottle of bag! Called to address issue, he puts blame on uber & did not take ownership for his incompetence. He missed key items in my order including extra chicken that he admitted to forgetting and hot sauce. I hope anyone reading this will not waste time and money as you will be disappointed.
