Dishes and drinks to be collected from two separate locations and therefore to be paid for separately. Very pleasant setting with a beautiful view of the city.

I didnt eat here, was just hanging with a friend for a drink. Beautiful atmosphere. Very cozy.

Tavern on the hill is an Ottawas gem! Great show with fireworks in the background while you eat a nice sandwich. Spent quality time with my mom, this place is a hit 10/10. There are lineups though because its busy, so make sure to arrive early to reserve your seats! Or call ahead!

Fun place to come and hang out during the evening and grab a drink. It is not a typical restaurant where there is a server to grab your order and serve you for the evening. The concept is based around you going to the kitchen or the bar to order and then going back to your area and someone will bring the food when its ready. This format allows you to have a good time and eat and drink at your own pace. Vegetarian options: Some vegetarian options. Dietary restrictions: Vegan options limited, on demand maybe.

Great view of the Parliament and Ottawa River

Great decor, mid-week not busy, plenty of space. The food is horrible. Like I mean horrible. I m not even a foodie with high standards, it was horrible. The food is served in plastic boxes on cafeteria trays and the food is not warm. I m genuinely in shock at the contrast between the look/location/price of this place and the taste of the food. We re a family of four and none of our meals were good. The food is like gas station level sandwich level. I m not exaggerating. Service is poor, not once did someone come check on us. They kept asking if we were done with this or that box when we re obviously still taking our time eating. And they don t offer to refill your glass of water, but instead ask if they can take it. We felt rushed. I n genuinely in awe at how bad the experience was, especially that I always thought it looked great every time I d walk by. My mind is blown.

Our hostess named poppy was absolutely amazing!! Made us feel so welcome and was incredibly helpful. Can t wait to come back!!

Google maps says it s open but it s not! Misleading! We were told on a Friday night at 10 pm that the restaurant has closed even though we saw on Google that it s open till 2am. We walked a lot to see the restaurant and customers were inside but they said at 10 pm that the kitchen has closed.

Not a big selection of food but 1001 drinks

Great outdoor bar right in the Majors hill park with great views of the parliament of Canada, the river, and Gatineau. This place features several areas for seating and enjoying a nice drink or/and food. This place does not operate as a traditional restaurant with service (servers). One must order their drinks and food at the counter, take a number, and somebody will bring the order to the table once ready. Whenever I have people visiting Ottawa, I make sure to take them to Tavern on the Hill.

Tavern got some nice renovations recently and you need to check it out! Watched the fireworks last week and had a great time. All the staff including Vincent are commendable. Food : 5/5

This place is only hindered by the construction around it. It has a great view of the Parliament. If you re looking for a nice patio with little to a lot of friends and it s nice out, this is the spot

Very relaxing atmosphere and super friendly staff. Their seats are super comfortable with a nice view of the city. I took their pulled pork hotdog and it was absolutely delicious. Will definitely go again to this place for both the drink and the food!!

Kaelo was amazing! He had great table service and made our night. The food was great. We had the hummus and charcuterie. For self serve the staff were super friendly! Will def be back!

The view is just perfect and although they didn t create it, the tavern captured it. Service was really friendly in a self-serve venue, specially Alex and Kaelo - we honestly stayed longer because they made us feel so welcome. The charcuterie and hummus plates were perfect for two people and we had leftovers. Thank you for a lovely evening that reminded us of how beautiful our hometown is.

Beautiful location, relaxing atmosphere and helpful staff. $$$ drinks.

The bean salad was a tin of beans with a few chips and off the shelf dressing. The chicken salad was fair but mangos tasted tinned and once again the dressing was subpar. Venue and staff were lovely.

The view is incredible, nothing like it elsewhere. The staff is so friendly and I love the open service concept very cool idea. The food and drinks are amazing. It s at a great location in Ottawa and is very cosy. It s a all around must visit in Ottawa. I LOVE IT.

Terrible! Dont even bother coming here. They took one hour !!!!! to bring our hot dogs to our table. No a single apology, not a single comment about, yet they do want at least a 15% tip. Lots of young people who seem not to give a damn about service. Avoid a frustrating time and go somewhere else in town.

I honestly had the best time ever at this location !! I had no idea it existed and this was a pleasant surprise. I loved the tuna taco!! My waitress Laurie was spectacular!! We had the pleasure of meeting the owner and the manager GiGi was so accommodating. I m so glad we discovered this little gem! My coworker is new to Ottawa and we had the best time ever. The vibes are great and it s clear they work hard to curate this ideal environment to relax with friends!! Thanks so much ! We will be back! We had the best spot for the fireworks!!

Extremely mid tourist trap. 7 bucks for a hot dog lol. Not the worst place to sit on a patio, especially if youre old or like bad music

So happy to have this gem opened again! The new deck is enormous and there is still patio seating next to the bar. Beers are cheaper than previous. The food truck style food still hits the spot, with tacoes and hot dogs available.

I stepped out to order another drink because bar was closing and they cleaned my unfinished drinks.

It open during posted open hours, came for dinner and it was closed at 930pm though said open until 2am

There are live performances and the atmosphere is really good. I only drink beer, so I dont know how the food tastes.

Location is fantastic, current construction messes with the vibe but Im sure itll be a great atmosphere once its done. Food is expensive, which given the location I would expect, but what you get is very underwhelming. $12 hotdog and the bun and hotdog are basically just a normal Costco bun and hotdog, something you might serve in a get together at the park with friends. I would consider this place for drinks but not for food. Unfortunately, I dont drink

I organized a friends birthday at the Tavern. We found the place very beautiful, with a very pleasant view of the water. It is a very distinguished place. Drink menu quite varied and rich. But not so much for food. The place is too chic to just eat hot dogs and other snacks

How about any info about being closed in the early spring? We came all the way from US and ended up disappointed

Terrible place to go I was there yesterday at 5 pm and I ordered some chips with salsa and not chips because they run out , I order a hot dog but my order took one hour in half because the waiter forgot my hot dog in the kitchen when my food arrived , it was cold and the male waiter never apologized about his mistake. I don t recommend this place terrible service. .

You only go to this place at sunset gray place for a drink Don t like the menu hot dogs and taco are not that good So go there for a drink not the food great place for date night and there is big park beside for a walk The have a live band it could get noisy for conversation But a must go at least once great spot for photos and to gather with friends skip the food

Great location and atmosphere. Went for the fireworks show. Didnt realize they close the parking lot they have to use for the show, no biggie parked across at the gallery.

Food is very expensive without variety. Not organize at all. In the beginning of forth wave of COVID-19, it is the first time I have ever seen that people in the kitchen were preparing food without wearing gloves. Regarding the fireworks; they didnt put a sign where to go. They charge almost $17 per person while I can attend it for free

Over priced drinks and below mediocre food

Situated in Majors Hill Park, this is a lovely spot to have a nice hot dog or taco and a cold beer or a glass of wine. The view is spectacular and I was even able to bring my dog with me. Perfect.

Weird deconstructed dishes.

The location is very beautiful, but the circumstances today led to an unfortunate experience. It was very hot and there were wasps *everywhere* - especially swarming the bar. I ordered a Tavern Spritz, which according to the menu was a cocktail with black currant liqueur, red cinzano, sparkling wine, and soda. I received a drink that tasted heavily of pineapple and other fruits. I reread the menu and saw that the Mocktail Spritz had pineapple as its first ingredient and thought they mustve misheard me and just charged me for the cocktail. I went back to the bar and expressed that I didnt think my drink was correct, however the bartender quickly let me know she had put the blackberry liqueur in it. They told me that the drink was meant to taste heavily of juice. I conceded that I mustve been wrong and also didnt want to put them under more stress as the heat and wasps were already a lot. I went back to the table and reviewed the menu again, and nowhere does it say that there is pineapple juice or orange in the Tavern Spritz. I dont know whether the drink I was given was the Mocktail plus black currant liqueur, or it really was just the Mocktail (couldnt taste any alcohol), but it wasnt the drink I ordered. I was unhappy that a solution wasnt offered and I was dismissed immediately. TLDR: went here today in the 30+ degree heat, that plus the wasps and incorrect drink = a bad experience

One star is only for the view .. Watch out .. the guys at the bar doesn t wear masks and just charged me more than the price in the menu and added a great percentage for themselves without even asking and no receipt.. also there s no mint on the mojito . Cheap cocktail overall .. it s not worth it !

Super nice place

Hugely expensive, poor sevice, ran out of menu items, and I had concerns about kitchen cleanliness (I watched a worker wipe the sweat from his brow with a gloved hand and go right back to making salads with his hands). Had drinks and nachos, gave up and left. Saw the kitchen incident in the way out walking past the kitchen order window.

It s a great discovery as an open-air place. My only disappointment is the Covid restrictions for precisely an open-air place but oh well. A band was playing, lights hanging, patio chairs and couches everywhere. No table service... What? Ive never seen that, you have to get up and go order your alcohol at one counter and then go to another counter to order your food. Oh Boy! If these are things that dont annoy you too much and you like being outside without any fuss, its a nice place for a young crowd.

This place was cleaned poorly and there were so many wasps my hot dog wasn t even fully cooked. DON T COME TO THIS RESTAURANT you can t get a better hotdog at Costco.

Over-hyped and underwhelming. From everything that we had seen online it looked as though this was the place to be. The concept and location are very appealing, but the execution leaves a lot to be desired. We were seated by a server and then when we went to get our food (self serve) our table was taken. The food was ok. Not even close to the best hot dog I have had. It was disappointing considering the price. The Tavern Lager was very light and nothing special. I would recommend going with one of the other beers or drinks if you do choose to visit. Also, the bathrooms didnt have enough capacity considering the number of people that were there. Finally, the mandatory gratuity at a self serve restaurant doesnt sit well. Considering that you order, wait for the food, bring it to your table, and seat yourself (at least in our case after our original table was taken) it seems crazy that they charge a mandatory gratuity. I was excited to try this place and was disappointed.

Cool spot, a little busy during high times, but to be expected.

Honestly not super impressed I ended up buying some tickets to watch the fireworks and it was super chaotic! There was no social distancing I felt extremely uncomfortable even though we were outside. We kept seeing people scramble for chairs who were visibly upset saying they paid for seating and they didn t even have enough chairs. It doesn t really seem like they took The time to properly organize anything. I ll say the fireworks were great but they weren t responsible for that. Cash grab

Great place. The food is wonderful. My wife said they made the best tacos she ever had. I can testify that the hot dogs are great. Only 4 starts because of the bar. They got the cocktails wrong and what they claim is a 20oz glass of beer is 16oz or less... And its pretty expensive for a house lager.

Really nice place even during covid the wait times are not bad at all except for the food line, it was a bit of a long line when I went but it was probably a busy time. The drinks bar was quick for drinks. Good place overall, the view is fantastic, its in a awesome location, and just a nice place to go for a date, a drink after work, or just as a tourist to look upon Parliament Hill / the Ottawa River.

Open air, beautiful day

Stumbled on this gem while we stayed in the city. The live music on a Monday night was unexpected. Highlight of our trip.

You can not charge 18% tip for poor service. On the menu it only includes the base price. The drinks include the tip already two drinks for 35 dollars and two beers for 25. I m sorry but that s a ripoff. Never ever coming back or recommended.

Worse experience. The place is beautiful but I waited 3 times in long lines to get things, first about 10 minutes to order, then like 30 min to get my food, kitchen very slow and you have to wait standing in the sun to get food. Not planning on visiting again.

The food was good, and the staff are lovely. The reason Im giving this place a three star rate is the management, the place was packed, lines for the bar were super long, and management did nothing to help their staff deal with the situation. I heard that peak days/times, the service is better, but Im writing this review based on my experience on a Monday at lunchtime.

Hotdogs were pretty good. I waited 25mins for two hotdogs. There were three people in front of me and one person waiting to pick up his order. It was like in the movie Zootopia with the sloths in the DMV. Everything seem a little disorganized. Was the seating a free for all? Where do I order my drinks? After watching multiple people in front of us scratch their heads we fianlly figured it out. Thanks god Canadians are nice. The view and ambiance was top notch

Wow! The venue is tucked away on Major Hills Park, with views of parliament and the art gallery. Fabulous venue location. Excellent vibe and okay food ( its all served in take out format). Bar is great.

Horrible experience here. The only good thing about this location is the view and thats it. Food was okay, however it was overpriced and tasted a bit store bought or prepared way in advanced. I ordered the chicken tacos and they gave me one taco for 5 dollars plus tax in a cheap cardboard take out container. Despite the food, the staff was the worst experience. They told us to keep our mask on if were walking around in an outdoor setting, which I obeyed, however, NONE OF THEM WERE WEARING A MASK. Alongside this, the whole time I was there (about 40 min), they just stood and talked. Not to mention this is a self-serve place so they didnt have any responsibilities to do, and yet on the bill they automatically added 15% tip. FOR WHAT? I didnt want to pay a 15% tip to a bunch of university students who did nothing the whole time as well as preach one thing yet do another. Beyond disappointed, they do not deserve the 4 star rating they have.

I really enjoy this place. Its not far from the market but much more relaxing and a good place to actually have a conversation. You do have to get your food yourself and they lost a start for adding an obligatory tip when getting your food and drinks yourself.

Excellent view and atmosphere but the food and drinks were mediocre. We were very excited to try the hot dogs, tacos and drinks but we were disappointed that it was overpriced and lacked flavour. I personally did not enjoy the self serve concept and standing in lines every time we wanted a drink. You are only paying for the views.

Awesome spot. Awesome hotdogs. If you get a seat by a fire, it is really romantic. You go to the counter and order and pick it up yourself to bring to your table. The staff were all fantastic and nice. Best of all, it is dog friendly.

Great place to hang out with friends or on a date for drinks. Good selection of beers and the sangria, especially the white, is the best Ive had. Food is overpriced and average, eat before, bring your own and get the snacks only.

Atmosphere nice, lack of table service when there is 2 tables is sad. 15% gratuity is bit sad considering $12 beers. Too hipster/tourist trap. Also food is mainly GFS/Sysco trash. Come here if youre not from Ottawa, youll love it.

Great place for drinks with friends especially during summer. Great view of the parliament and the sunset. There arent many choices for food, and if you dont eat meat the menu is very limited to a salad or a veggie hot dog - I hope they change that soon!

Great location good view for a date

Visited with a girlfriend of mine, and we spent a very nice evening. We ordered some cocktails and tacos. The view and atmosphere are both really good, it is a good place to chill and for girls night out. The experience is before COVID though. Not sure if their operating hour is as normal during this special time.
