I got the combo and the Food was terribly tasteless and rice tasted old and soggy. Worst take out experience I ve ever had.

The jerk chicken is no good, the coconut shrimp is average, generous amount of rice enough for two meals.

Amazing chicken salad. Love it. Portion is big and very delicious!

It was absolutely DELICIOUS but, why are you trying to kill me? Ordered a curry goat with plantains. Taste wise : outta this world! But there were bones so tiny I almost swallowed some several times and gosh the pieces were SO SHARP it wouldve slit my throat from the inside! I got so scared to keep eating but I couldnt stop So yes, delicious, but maybe dont order their curry goat Which is a shame cause Im from the Caribbean and its one of my favourite meals ever

My review isnt for the food. Ive actually never ate at the restaurant. But over the years I have bought dozens of bottles of their homemade Caribbean Jerk marinade. Love it. One of the best meals we make at home. If you are there, grab a jar. Cant go wrong.

Sorrel juice was good. I am sure the kitchen was having an off night or something because I never leave reviews but wow. Terrible food. I was really exited to find a Caribbean food place that looked good in Ottawa (I m from Toronto where there s a place on every block and they re all amazing). Ordered on Uber eats and the roti was doughy and sooo thick, veggies where definitely frozen veg medley they just threw in a pan with some spices. I asked for chana (only chickpeas and potatoes) got basically all veg and I think I found 1 piece of potatoe. Also weird veg like green beans and Lima beans in roti???? Very odd. Flavour was lacking salt as-well. Also in the salad the tomatoes and cucumbers were massive chunks and the dressing was so sweet I could barely take 3 bites. Tasted like candy. Maybe I m crazy because they have good reviews but that wasn t just bad because it wasn t authentic it was just bad food period. I have no problem spending money on good food but I paid $30 for duttines when at home I get the best Caribbean roti for $10 or less. Ottawa needs more culture and authenticity. (I don t mean to hurt anyones feelings I was just so so disappointed in this food)

This place is 5 star worthy!!! I was visiting town and wanted to have a taste of Caribbean and they delivered. Good portions and decent prices too. I recommend the jerk chicken salad, very flavourful. Everyone was very respectful too, drop in and get yourself some delicious food.

Ive been eating authentic jamaican food for my entire life and I gotta say I was pretty disappointed. The rice & peas didnt have any hints of coconut at all and the jerk chicken was flavorless. The fried plantain was great and made well and so was the oxtail. I was really hoping to find some good jamaican food here in Ottawa but it seems Ill have to go back to Toronto to really get my fix.

Easy access on bank street for anybody working centertown. If you have never had Caribbean/island food, this is the spot. My personal fave (Ox tail) wont do you wrong!!

I have been looking for great Jamaican food here in Ottawa and I have finally found it. The food was perfect and the portions were large!

Within a couple bites, I knew this was going to be one of my go-to spots on Bank. Generous portions, great service, fantastic flavour, and solid value. Everything about it made me feel warm and happy, which is great for Ottawa winters.

Chef Carletons food is amazing. have been a loyal customer before he even got this shop. His spices and sauce are top notch as well. This is my only complaint: Apparently he doesnt like to make money. Opening at 2 daily, rather than noon kind of sucks. Hes in a prime spot downtown, he needs to open for lunch! Me and my friends dont live downtown, but used to always travel here to meet up for lunch before covid, and are more than willing to once or twice a week still now, but they are closed. Also closed sunday and monday. People want to give you money, but it seems you dont want it! :( But, ill still be a loyal customer, just not as much as im trying too. Fishys in orleans is getting our money instead, a few times a week, even though a further more inconvenient drive. Please reconsider your hours.

Rice and veggies tasted watery 0 flavour. I tasted uncooked grains in the rice Jerk pork was hard and didnt taste like jerk more like stew pork, also some pork was so dried like it was laying there for a week and then it was put back in to sauce and recooked again. Oxtail was decent and soft. But the server was nice.

I used to love this restaurant but today I ordered the coconut curry chicken. The vegetables are supposed to be sautéed the carrots, onions, broccoli and POTATOES are not cooked at all. Last time I ate it the veggies were cooked and soft. So disappointed.

One of my favourite restaurants in all of Ottawa. You cant go wrong with anything on the menu, but if I have to pick Ill give a shout out to the oxtail, coconut curry, reggae wings, fruit punch, and coconut-pineapple cake!

They were out of rice and peas! That takes 3 stars off my jerk chicken dinner meal. Then I was told it would be ready in 15 minutes, took 30 minutes.. that takes 1 star off. Meal was ok, Ive had much better. Unlikely to return.

Great jerk chicken!

Very disappointed! My husband paid and waited over 15 minutes for two rotis only to be told that they are out of chicken and potatoes to make two full rotis. Would have been easier just to been told they were out of certain foods!

Fast and ready to go

This has been my favourite Caribbean restaurant for a while, especially when Im craving goat curry like my mom used to make. Food is top notch and I can barely finish the roti platter. The oxtail hits the spot, and the rice and peas makes my day. The jerk chicken is spicy but the flavour is amazing. I always get the fritters, they are so delicious. Overall very authentic and tasty. Ive only ordered for delivery through Uber Eats, so I cant wait to enjoy the dining-in experience.

DONT GO, ITS BAD Extremely disappointed. Not the food so much, but how they run the place. I ordered boneless jerk chicken, plantains, ox tail gravy and can. What I got was chicken with bone, extra ox tail meal, half done plantains and no can. I asked them to give me an ox tail gravy rather than the whole meal itself later on but still had the wrong chicken and did not get my drink that I paid for. The cashier girl looks like she hates working there and hates the customers, didnt even apologize when she realized she brought me an extra meal I did not ask for. I realized the chicken had bones and plantains were half done and the absence of my drink when I got home since it was a pick up order. There are two possible explanations for this. Either the cashier has serious problems or she mistreates customers who dont tip. I have two suggestions, 1) find new employees who are going to at least smile and be polite towards customers and own their mistakes. 2) Dont expect to get tipped just because you are cooking. There are no tables and no hospitality on your part, you are just taking orders and packaging the food. That does not qualify for tip, and you shouldnt treat your customers depending on that. At the end of the day, I did not enjoy the food I got, and they owe me a can. Horrible experience for someone who loves caribbean food.

I had ordered a vegetarian stir-fry and I was very impressed with the quality of the ingredients, the amazing fresh taste and the fantastic portion of my meal. I waited a bit, but of course it was made on the spot and I wouldnt want it any other way. The service was great and kind (by a person with curly long hair in a ponytail).

I got the curry chicken roti plate and it was delicious. They put the sauce on the rice! I love it. Very generous portions, enough for 2 meals making this a really great value for my money. The roti was packed with a lot of chicken and not mostly potatoes like other places will do. I will definitely be going back and trying other dishes as well!

Their food is amazing, I never order from any other Jamaican spot now, but they only put small pieces of plantain (1 Sometimes 2) that is my only complaint, if it wasn t for that it would be 5 stars!

We ordered the curry goat and jerk chicken for takeout last week. Both meats were tender and nicely spiced. We enjoyed all the sides, especially the island slaw which was crunchy and fresh. The meal portions are quite generous too!

Chef Carletons homemade ketchup is the best condiment that I ever have tried. I recommend trying any of Chef Carletons homemade sauces, they are better then anything you can buy at a grocery store. I dont think you can find better curry goat anywhere in Ottawa. The fried plantain is an absolute treat. Chef Carletons coleslaw is absolutely fantastic. Finally the staff are lovely, and you will always find good music playing at Island Grill.

Delicious and great value. Weve had just 3 takeout meals during the pandemic. All from here despite so many options in the city. For $40 for a couple, we can stuff ourseves and have leftovers. Faves are goat and chicken roti platters and code fritters.

The jerk chicken is easily the best Ive ever had! Plantains are also delicious. I have had a bit of trouble reaching them by phone to make an order, but its absolutely worth the effort.

Some of the best cuisine of any type in Ottawa. The stir fried vegetables and vegetable roti are great veg options. Also try the drinks, I like the kick from the ginger beer and island punch.

Chef Carletons recipies are innovative yet authentic. This is not your run of the mill Jamaican restaurant that offers canadianized caribbean food. His flavours are true to the islands and give you a taste of home. Chef Carletons creative use of flavours and blends brings out the life of any dish. The gentleman who served us was kind and friendly, the spicy potatoes are to die for, and the jerk chicken roti was so delicious and flavourful. We ordered take out but cant enjoy the food because of too much black pepper, in the rice and the salmon fishing meal. Please cut down on all this black pepper, to avoid ulcer stomachs. Hot source can be on the side so we can add the amount needed. Cut back on the food browning, just too much browning in the food, it looks black rather than brown.

The food is good but their business acumen is terrible. I called to place an order one time and I was told that it would be ready in 10-15 minutes. I showed up and the woman said they never made my food. She said if I make an order in the future, I would get a discount. 2 days later, I called during business hours and no one answered my call. In my opinion, this is the Forgotten Gem Caribbean Restaurant of Ottawa. Great flavorful food and tasty food options for Vegans/Vegetarians. The restaurant has a nice upscale presentation and I Love that I can buy there Jerk plus Flavor condiments there. I dont know why this place is not mentioned when it comes to being one of the best Caribbean Restaurants in Ottawa. This place has a very Creative Caribbean Cuisine that Foodies must try.

Great selection of Caribbean food and actual Caribbean music being played. I had the homemade ginger beer which was in a large glass and had a good bite to it. I would highly recommend this if your allergies or a cold are giving you a sore throat and your sinuses need clearing. They say you can judge a restaurants food if the people from that country are there, so this is definitely the place!

I went there today and did not have a good experience. I ordered the jerk pork and my husband ordered the jerk chicken. We both had rice and peas with oxtail gravy. I must mention that I very used to spicy food and I had jerk pork and jerk chicken before but NEVER this hot. There is spicy and then theres FIRE HOT. The jerk pork although tender was way too hot and I wasnt able to eat it after 3 bites. I had to drink lots of water and was grateful for the side of coleslaw. I told the owner that the jerk pork was way too hot and his answer was anything that says jerk will be spicy. I told him there is a big difference between spicy and hot and that I couldnt eat my meal. Je said I dont know what to tell you do you want water? I said no I want yo change it. He said no I cannot change it and he was done with me. What an awful customer service! So youre telling me that you prefer to lose a customer instead of trying to have a customer satisfied so that I can refer others this restaurant??? You best believe that I WILL NEVER COME BACK thats for sure! Bad customer service and no flexibility. I will make sure I share my bad experience with others.

I love Caribbean cooking and was disappointed when the restaurant by Slater/Bank closed so, saw the reviews for the restaurant which were ok but not great so, stuck with standard jerk chicken, curried goat and tried out prawns. I was disappointed and would never order from them again.

I stopped in the other day for the first time and was greeted by a big smile on gentlemans face. He then took my order as I was craving oxtail as you can see in my picture the portion is very big. The gravy was so delicious and the oxtail was flavorful + super tender Juicy and very yummy. The drink in the picture is homemade Sorrel which I enjoyed as it was fresh. Overall I would recommend as the food was fresh and made with love. The atmosphere is nice. They also serve alcohol which is a plus. There are tables for an unenjoyable sit-down meal with a great view of the hustle and bustle of Bank Street.

Excellent experience from the moment we entered the door. The kind man right away greeted us, and we felt like home. One word to describe it: warmth. The food was fantastic and true to its origin. Portions were huge (in a good way). This has become our go-to. Very glad we walked in!

Fantastic food

The oxtail is beyond words! I love their plantains and potatoes too. The curry goat tastes great but it is a bit inconsistent. Sometimes its very bland, but sometimes its well seasoned. I tried the drinks too, fruit punch is great! But Im not a fan of the home made ginger ale because Im a soft girl who cant stand ginger.

My boyfriend loves their curry goat platter. Honestly, the man behind the counter is freaking amazing. Affable, efficient, and quick with a smile. Really rounds out an excellent eating experience.

I use to order from them almost daily but lately its not good. Tonight I ordered Goat roti with a side of rice. Instead I received some rice with goat bones, no wrap, no potatoes. It looks like someones left overs smothered in rice with cold plantain. I dont feel comfortable eating any of it at this point.

The atmosphere is great, super vibrant colours and... if it wasnt so cold out, you could imagine walking off a beach into this place. Carlos was very welcoming, the food was extremely tasty and they do have those island sodas! I was a little surprised by the amount of bones in the goat roti, but Carlos was patient and understanding when he explained it to me and gave me a bit of a treat, after we talked. I will definitely be back, so many other great things on the menu to try.

My favourite restaurant in Ottawa and the best Caribbean food by far! I love the rotis and cant go here enough!
