It was my first time trying soup dumplings and I was so impressed!! They were super yummy and I loved the sauces for them too. The prices were super reasonable and they have a great tea selection too. :)
Cute dumpling and bao place right on the heart of ByWard Market. Delicious and juicy for sure. Both atmosphere and the service were very good. We did enjoy there for lunch with my daughter. Dumpling plate contains 16 and bao has 10 pieces and we were able finish them all.
Music is good, lighting and atmosphere is great. The flavours are good and the juice in the xiao long bao is not too much but just right to add the right amount of moisture. It is also flavourful. They have a big pork menu which was a bit dissatisfying, however the chicken and small vegetarian menu is delicious. The food also takes a little while to come which isn’t the worst since it is a sit in and the atmosphere fills up the time. The servers are pretty straight forward, so if you’re expecting over the top, it is not it. So go with someone if you’re planning to go, so you can chat. Otherwise, I’ll come again because the aesthetic is are great and so is the food. If I need dumplings, especially during fall/winter season, I’ll go here 🥘
It's good but not amazing. Service was really good and the atmosphere was nice but I found the dumplings to be a little too stingy with the filling. The soup wontons were good, the xia long bao was the highlight, but the pan fried felt too doughy without enough flavor. When you do come to try this place, I recommend getting the peanut sauce. I am interested in trying more of this menu, but it hasn't wowed me yet for the price. As such, make sure you go for lunch since the value is better than going for dinner.
I love it here! I’ve been 3+ times now and the dumplings are so delicious. After trying different varieties over the last few visits, I’ve settled on the classic juicy pork soup dumplings as my favourite. This time, we got 3 orders of these dumplings and it was perfect for 2 hungry dumpling lovers. Highly recommend this spot!!
We had two orders of dumplings; one fried pork and cabbage and the other fried pork and green onion. They were good and hit the spot. Service was fairly non existent and strangely dismissive. I really like the look of the restaurant and the atmosphere was nice and upbeat. Very affordable. Overall, a tasty but underwhelming experience.
We visited Sammi Soup Dumpling in downtown Ottawa today, hoping for a fresh experience at a newly opened spot. Unfortunately, it didn’t start well. Although Google showed the restaurant opens at 11 am, when we arrived, the open sign wasn’t on, and the doors were locked. We could see people in the kitchen, but no one acknowledged us for about 10 minutes. Eventually, someone came to unlock the door, but the lights were still off inside, and we were told to sit anywhere and wait another 5-10 minutes for the servers to arrive for their shift. When the staff finally showed up, the lights were turned on, and we were served warm tap water. The server was polite, but everyone seemed visibly tired. The food arrived quickly, but it was underwhelming. The soup and cucumbers were bland and lacked seasoning, and the soup itself tasted like it had been microwaved. The peanut wontons were served cold, unlike the warm ones we’ve had at their Montreal location. The “premium pork with truffle” dumplings had an odd, gamey odor and flavor. The only dish that was decent was the classic pork dumplings. Overall, we left disappointed, especially after being excited to have a new dumpling spot in Ottawa. It didn’t live up to our expectations, especially compared to their Montreal location. Hopefully, it was just an off day, but we’re not sure we’ll be returning.
So I came back and the food was delicious and 5/5 this time. No uncooked part at all. Everything was soupy and flavourful and extremely delicious. Service improved from the first time we visited. We didn’t have to wait ages to order even though it was packed. The food was a bit of a wait it was well worth it as it seemed to be made and cooked super fresh. Maybe the first time we caught them on an off day. Will be returning a lot with my family ! —- The soup dumplings themselves were tasty and legit, however some of the “frills” on the dumplings were slightly undercooked, but that happens sometimes. That does not detract from the good flavours and the dumplings too much. The service was not great. It was pretty quiet when I visited, only about half full. We were seated quickly but then forgotten for 30 minutes and had to wave someone over to take our order. I will come back because I think the food is very tasty, but I think service could improve. I don’t need you to check on me every 10 minutes, but I don’t think I should be waiting for 30 min to get my order in when the restaurant is half empty.
Dumplings were very juicy and nice. Cucumber salad was more on the sweet side than expected but tasted fine. The service was great! Our server Elaine was welcoming and nice!
Best soupy dumplings in Ottawa
These soup dumplings are one of the tastiest things Ive eaten while in Ottawa. The price is pretty good as well since you get 10 pieces for $16.94 after tax for the pork, shrimp & scallop soup dumplings. I havent dined in yet but calling in advance usually doesnt go through, but when I arrive 5-10 min later, theres very few people, 3 small groups max and 2-3 front staff. Overall, would recommend, just not for takeout.

Food is great but not a fan of the service. Ive been here twice and ordered like, 45 dumplings to myself. Went tonight to try a third time and walk in (not reserved) customers that came after me were seated while I was left waiting. I didnt end up eating there tonight because that felt wrong as a customer. The food is fantastic but for the prioritization, Im not going to go back without getting a reservation first.

First time at Sammi s and it was incredible ! Nathan was our server and he helped us through the entire process. We had the teriyaki beef and spicy juicy pork, per his recommendations and both were amazing ! We will be coming back soon !
I went around 1 oclock, it was easy to get in however little confusion occurred when it came to the menu and ordering. The food was good and affordable. I really liked the fact I could do half and half with flavors.

Had to flag down anyone who looked like a server. No organization from what I could tell. Just take what you get. The tables were clearly bought on a rush as they are all stamped with American licence plates. Weird for an Asian-themed restaurant, but whatever. Tables were still clean, place was bright, fresh and modern. Overall food is highly recommended , but be prepared for the service chaos.

The restaurant is modern and cute, and everything is bilingual, which was nice. The dumplings were very delicious, with a fun variety. The peanut butter dumplings were loaded with sauce, which we saved for the main dumplings definitely a nice add-on. However, the service in the dining area was extremely slow; the servers seemed disorganized and were not optimizing their steps. More than once, they returned to the back of the restaurant empty handed without checking on other tables to see if everything was okay. Considering how busy the place was, a more organized staff would improve the flow of service. On the other hand, the kitchen was impressively efficient. Once the order was finally placed, the beautiful dumplings came out at a steady pace. They also offer free tea (the cheapest teapot on the menu is $8) if you leave a Google review. I hope this doesn t lead to overly positive reviews when they aren t warranted. Generally, I was very satisfied with the food and the atmosphere of the place, but there is room for improvement in the service. This will not deter me from returning, though. (Disclaimer: I did not claim any free tea in exchange for this review.)

We were really excited to be able to eat here again as me and my friend don t come downtown often, however we were fairly disappointed in the service. Food was delicious as always but when we arrived we weren t served for 20 minutes. We definitely waited to long to ask a staffs help to be fair I can be a little awkward about restaurant etiquette , but still it was very full and we were a bit confused seeing people get served who came in after us. Our best guess is that we saw quite a few staff leaving their shift and we may have been lost in the shuffle which would ve been fair and understandable. However after we got to order it was another long wait for an order of three of the same dumplings. Seeing other people still get served before us with more diverse appetizers and such, like we aren t chefs but it was a bit disappointing. And we were getting hangry. Especially myself cause i hadn t really eaten yet this day. Over all it took an hour to get our food and people who came after us were finishing up and leaving so that was kinda a bummer. We really love the food here so we ll still come again, hoping it s a fluke. And the server who did help us was very nice. But can t say it was the best experience. Luckily we weren t in a rush. It would ve been nice if they comped our tea or something or at least prioritize our order. But alas, the dumplings were very very good so flowers for that. I would say don t make our mistake and if you think you ve waited too long just flag someone. Being polite isn t worth the tummy pain haha

Everything about this place was worth the wait. We didn t have time to take photos because we were too busy stuffing our faces with: Hot n Sour Cucumber - Cold Peanutbutter Noodles - Shrimp Wonton Soup - Shrimp/Scallop Dumpling for me and an Spicy Juicy Pork Dumplings for him. The service was on point and friendly, the food came out quickly and over all was a great experience. Although a pot of jasmine tea was $8, which I thought was a little over priced but it don t matter cuz we ll still be going back, as often as we can
I recently visited this dumpling and steam store, and it exceeded all my expectations. The dumplings were fresh, flavorful, and perfectly cooked with a delicate, thin wrapper that didn t fall apart. So glad we came here; weve been looking for a good dumpling place, and this did the trick. Had the peach oolong tea, peanut dumplings, seaweed salad, and an order each of the soup and pan fried dumplings. Everything was delicious and arrived quickly. Staff were efficient and polite, checked in on us once but otherwise left us be unless we asked for them (which we prefer). Nice ambiance, and we liked the added touch of learning how to actually eat/enjoy the dumplings, and then dip them in a sauce we can customize ourselves at the table. Kid-friendliness: 2 high chairs w/ trays (IKEA-type) No change tables Wheelchair accessibility: Not wheelchair accessible (step up into the building, second step into the restaurant)
The food is fresh and the cups that the tea come in are GORGEOUS! I wanted to take one home.
I chose to come here to show my friend one of my favorite spots in the Byward and a per usual we had a fantastic experience. The only improvement I would suggest is adding a stop-gap ramp / temporary ramp to enter the building. Otherwise, the restauraunt is accessible as it all on one floor and use can use a QR code to review the menu.

5 stars for their XLB! Recently moved from Toronto and so glad to find a yummy dumpling spot. Haven t tried many of their menu items, but can vouch for their Xiao Long Bao! Chewier skin that doesn t break when you pick it up with hot yummy broth and meat inside! Random note: the booths sit slightly taller to the table and chairs.. so would recommend sitting in the chairs if you have a longer torso lol Also, they charge for a teapot.. so don t be shy to ask for hot water Edit: I mentioned previously that the XLB skins didn t break.. last visit, a LOT of them did break and it was quite disappointing. One star removed.

Wonderful service, we spilt the chili oil and the server helped us clean it up no fuss. Really filling and we split two soup dumplings and one pan fried dumpling. We got the beef and curry pan fried, pork and chive soup dumplings. The lamb and coriander soup dumplings were my favourite.

The food is pretty good tbh. The service is fine. The worst thing is I spent 80% of my time on waiting for my food there. Ordered once waited for like 20min. Didn t feel full so ordered once again which took over 25 minutes to get the food. I was there for maybe 70 minutes, but at least 45-50 minutes was waiting.

I just went there have a try. The taste is just fine, no surprise. The only thing that I want to say is that cup of water. There are a bottom of white things in my cup of water. I didnt notice untill they refill my water. I just looked into the cup and find out there are so many white things in my cup and I asked them to tell me what are those things. They just took away my cup with no explain? What should I do? I dont know what are those things I dont know if I need to do gastric lavage. Or do I have to sleep in the toilet tonight?
