Relaxed establishment offering a wide array of Chinese dishes & dim sum amid quaint decor.
I've always loved Yang Sheng for authentic won't on & Noodle soup. It's now our new goto spot for dim sum! Sure, the decor hasn't changed in 30 years, but it's part of the charm. Service was fantastic, they reviewed our order, made recommendations and we're happy to split the bill for us. Food was excellent, hot and came out quickly. You must try the bbq platter! We were a table of 9 and added the hot and sour soup, spicy Singapore noodles (with shrimp and bbq pork) and the salt & pepper squid off the main menu -Superb!
First time for dim sum anywhere other than the now-defunct Yangtze, and the 4 of us were very impressed. Super pot stickers, shui mai, BBQ fluffy buns (I think there's a more authentic name than that in the menu), and sticky rice. I usually don't care for sticky rice but this was excellent. Our new go-to spot. Would love to try the evening menu, too.
Great service, amazing food. Had the Hot & Sour soup and Combo plate 2. Everything was so delicious. And their egg rolls are to die for. The chicken fried rice is one of the tastiest & most fresh I've never had. Generous portions too.
We had the Casserole rice with pork ribs and chicken, the pork ribs is more tasty! You will need to call in to order ahead of time so you don’t need to wait for too long as they take a long time to cook. It’s pretty good with crispy rice at the bottom which we love! All other dishes are reasonable.
Today I ordered two dishes from this restaurant: 136. Sichuan Beef 四川牛肉 and 30. Beef with Eggplant 牛肉茄子. The first was clearly old: dry pieces of meat that are difficult to chew and reheat; the second was undercooked: half-raw beef covered in sauce with fatty eggplant. Terribly disappointing.
Bang for your buck no doubt. Service is great, staff are super pleasant and the decor looks nice too. While the portions are enormous and filling—the food tastes decent but nothing more. The shrimp in their dishes taste flat/flavourless and for some reason the duck doesn’t (or at least didn’t when I visited) come warm/hot like everything else. But I guess when you think about how much it costs you can’t really complain about these slight shortcomings. (I’m a repeat customer btw, the food is a lot! for that price lol)
Great dim sum place on somerset! Recommend the tofu dishes and the egg foo young. Delicious 👌 the duck was also well cooked. Come here with an empty belly ^^
Ottawa Chinatown is not a really a (Chinatown), it's more like a residential area compared to others CT that you had visited elsewhere before. Chinese shops and restaurants are very low in density and they are mostly situated along a short main road which is barely around 1km or even less maybe? Some of them had already moved out and the empty shop seems to be left vacant for quite some time.. Anyway just went on to dine at this Yang Sheng Chinese restaurant by chance since there weren't many other choices. No doubt the portion of the food was generous which was expected but the taste is way below standards. The braised beef with carrot Claypot is too salty.. White carrot was used instead of the red ones and with the white carrot having a weird (raw like chlorine) taste doesn't help at all... The beef color is very pale which explains how badly the meat are prepared which should not be like this for a braised beef hotpot. The omelete with Char siu(芙蓉蛋叉烧)was not nice also, it does not have the (Wok Hei) that how this dish supposed to had. Furthermore the dish was served with a funny and sticky brown salty sauce poured over it. It was the weirdest 芙蓉蛋 I had ever tasted. Overall experience: Economic and stomach filling restaurant to visit if you are easy on the taste and quality.
Awesome food
Staff are so inconsiderate and lack basic etiquette they treat you like just pay me eat and leave its so rude especially for someone whos a foreigner who is trying a Cuisine that is new to them you would want to feel more welcome and when you ask basic questions like what do you recommend from these three dishes theyll say all three are good this happened one time I said maybe it was bad luck I came back same experience
Ordered beef with rice and tofu. Rice was undercooked, beef had a slimy taste
Recently had a terrific meal here over Labour Day. We ordered family-style to be able to take leftovers home. The Bean Curd Roll With Pork was flavourful. We also ordered Spring Rolls, Sweet Sour Chicken Balls, Baby Bok Choy With Garlic, Braised Beef Claypot, and steamed rice, but the standout was the Peanut Chicken (ask for it) which staff members told us was their favourite; the chicken was tender and spicy, and the roasted chilis and peanuts had some crunch. Everything was excellent, with perfectly cooked vegetables and tender meats. It s obviously a restaurant that does a brisk takeout business, but only one dish arrived out of sequence. Happy busy crowded place, with nice staff! Would 10/10 eat here again next time I am in Ottawa. Dietary restrictions: Easy to eat non-dairy.
I had a great experience at Yang Sheng Chinese Restaurant. The roasted duck was delicious, and the shrimp fried rice was packed with flavor. The service was attentive and friendly. Highly recommend!
Tried this place last night. The wonton soup was yummy as was the sesame balls but the rest was soggy and bland. Our server was pleasant but we all had tummy issues after.
Been coming here w family since I was a child. Best chinese food in the city
This is a great little place my wife and I have been going to for 30 plus years. It changed ownership a couple years ago but the food is still great. My wife had beef and black bean on rice while I had beef brisket with noodles in soup. Food
I have been going there since I was 12 years old that was back in 1988 and theyve been open even longer than that. Amazing friendly family and staff. Love the food. All of it! Parking: Very few spots usuaually full.
take out, duck & rice + vermicelli total disaster, threw both away [different management from previous visit. No napkins nor customary sauce for either. Both were tasteless had to trash. Previous meal dine in, promphet fish in black bean sauce was amazing over-the-top. Two days later ordered the take out and threw away money. Had visited this spot as a grad student since 1975 being from Rochester, NY.
DO NOT COME TO THIS PLACE. The food was awful and the customer service was terrible. We ordered noodles and their combo meals for take out. The noodles was bland and the spare ribs were dry and rubbery. Their chicken balls has more batter and there was only one small piece of chicken. The customer service was just as bad! When the food was ready, they tell you its ready by clapping and yelling like youre a dog.
Best general tso I ve ever had. Dim sum is 10/10 atmosphere is great, and the service is wonderful :)
Fresh and delicious, with friendly and attentive service. Ill be back!
We know these same ladies who used to run the YinMin Dim Sum house, and their kitchen person CAN cook. Unpretentious, fresh, tasty, and authentic.
The food and service is great yummy the bathrooms are clean very cozy atmosphere very casual
Been coming here for my whole life Prices have gone up, but the quality is still great. I recommend their crispy noodles with bbq pork, bbq duck, or for a western dish the general taos is unique. Parking: Small lot in the back
everything was bad and I ordered half a boiled chicken and it was so bad, almost everything I ordered on the table was salty and frozen. I ordered a grilled meat dish but it seemed like it was made yesterday, the meat was very smelly and cold
Ordered a soup called Sliced beef and vegetable soup. There was more bean curd than beef. It should be called bean curd, beef and vegetable soup. Veggies were nice.
I have gone to Yang Sheng for decades! Best BBQ pork in the City.
Great little place - always busy but always lovely food
I was at this restaurant with some friends before a concert at the Bronson center. While we were waiting for our food to come to the table, we noticed a cockroach crawling on the wall. We notified the staff who quickly killed the bug. Within minutes later we noticed more bugs crawling on the floor. When we mentioned it to staff they didnt seem very concerned, in fact they acted like they were used to it. I highly recommend you dont eat at this restaurant
We mostly order takeout (delivery) from yangsheng, but have gone to pick up a few times and it s on our to-do list to eat inside the restaurant because it looks super cozy and reminds me a lot of HK/vancouver. Not sure why it s got below 4 stars but we personally have always enjoyed the food we get here, but treat it as your tasty but greasy comfort canto food. The general tso s chicken and chow mein are our go tos!
Best Chinese food in the city. Been around for over 30 years.
My family has been coming here for decades. Its our favourite Chinese restaurant in the city. Best BBQ pork ever! Vegetarian options: They have so many items that are vegetarian and they are all just as delicious as the meat options. Parking: Never needed it but they have a parking lot Kid-friendliness: I used to come here as a baby and they have high chairs and are very sweet to babies
I went there with my two sons had dinner and the place was empty. The minute we finished she brought the bill and the debit machine and put in front of my face to pay. They didnt ask if we wanted dessert .They pushed us out and wasnt even busy. Thought it was very rude and un professional for a restaurant to do that. Well its too bad for them because they lost my business., I will never go back.
Food
If I could give the food no stars I would. My husband ordered eggrolls and spring rolls, they were 100% nasty... They were drenched in grease ( the paper bag ripped from the grease), the eggrolls and spring rolls tasted really old like theyve been sitting there for days. Not recommended to eat here. They used to have amazing food but now. YUCK!!
I love there food there. But most of all they have the best hot n sour soup in Ottawa.
I want to start by saying I have ordered before and had a great experience. last night i ordered off skip. the two combination plates were a big hit with the people who ate them. my general tao was sour and made me ill. i kept the receipt and the food. not sure what to do yet. it made me sick. I don t want to be rude because i love small businesses. but I m disappointed. and i feel horrible leaving this review. but just in case there are other people or complaints i thought i d leave one. i will eat here again but perhaps will stick to vegetarian options. sorry again.
Nah. Save your money. Food is not tasty. Fried rice was hard. Sweet and sour sauce tasted like ketchup. Paid $0.80 for utensils they gave me 4 spoons. Horrible peanut sauce with zero spice on the dumplings even though its supposed to be spicy. Tasted like watered down peanut butter, just gross. They charge a premium for small portions and the food aint it. The ONLY thing I enjoyed was the cold pop and the chicken balls were crispy. Ordered through Skip and it took well over an hour to arrive. Order from some where else, this place is not good.
This place has been in Ottawa China town for a long time, the food is very good as Cantonese food. It seems the place is quiet busy due to good food and reasonable price. Going there off peak hours may be better according my experience.
Food was really good and the atmosphere was nice. Gave me small Chinese food place vibes and its an accurate assessment. Reminded me of a lot of the places my parents used to take me an my siblings when I was younger. I will definitely be eating here again.
The preserved eggs in the preserved egg and lean meat porridge are very fishy, the rice rolls have almost no flavor, the starch in the mushroom braised cabbage heart thickens into a big mess, and the mushrooms are still dry inside. This meal cost 70 dollars, I don t approve or recommend it.
Delayed trying this place for such a long time because of the bad reviews. Finally tried it because it was the only place opened one night, and it was great!!! Have been back multiple times since then and its been consistently good every time, for both dine-in and takeout really dont understand the low ratings
Being going to the Yang Sheng for my comfort Chinese food for years. Love it.
Very good authentic Chinese food.
Great food. Nice people. My go to for a nice Chinese meal. I love their tea and mango juice can.
Free parking! Tasty food. Surprised I had not found this place till now.
Authentic Cantonese food!! It becomes my favorite food place now
Good food and great price!
Terrible service, terrible food
Lovely Boxing Day lunch. The egg rolls are great. The beef and eggplant was my favourite. General Tao was a little spicy for me (it s always hit or miss for me, I can t take much spice) but it had a good flavour. Sweet and sour chicken balls were tough and dried out. The won ton soup was a bland but good. I would try again and skip those two dishes.
Really good restaurant with amazing food and friendly people
Friendly, tasty, quick service
Delicious, flavourful food; excellent service; wonderful experience. Vegetarian options: Lots to choose from! The spring rolls are fantastic. Dietary restrictions: Very knowledgeable about their own ingredients, very helpful in guiding towards options that suited my needs. Very nice about it too :) Parking: small lot behind restaurant, two entrances/exits Kid-friendliness: Nothing specific for kids, but my 7yo granddaughter was welcomed and treated well, she enjoyed her experience.
Have been going to Yng Shen for over 30 years, and I am disappointed to say it is not the same. I understand that covid has changed the restaurant industry, and that food costs are what they are. The BBQ pork (which they have been so famous for) was reheated/ microwaved on our soup. They wont be serving the funky hot sauce (too expensive) that was synonymous w Yang shen. Atleast give me the option to pay for it? I am of the mind, I would rather pay more than compromise the quality. This is a sad day, as I dont think we will be frequenting Yang Shen as we used too (once or twice a month). Does seem to have changed ownership, staff is all new.
The staff there are always very friendly, and the food is just incredible, very good portion sizes and the prices are equally reasonable
Love it love it
Wow what a little Gem Ottawa has with this little place. Food was great and reasonably priced. Service was fast.
The absolute disrespect for their customers is baffling. I ordered today. It was listed as open on Google and my order went through on the website. I came all the way from Gatineau since I loved this place. But when I got here, the lady said they werent actually open because of something wrong with the kitchen. I was then told that its fine since I wasnt charged; as if that justifies the hour I spent coming here. I cant support this business anymore. Thats unacceptable behavior.
Im never disappointed here. Hen hao
Great little place with good food that comes out quickly. Vegetarian options: There were plenty of veggie options. Food : 5/5 |
Been coming here since I was a baby now I have one of my own and this is still my go-to Chinese restaurant! Staff are so friendly and the food is so quick. You gotta try their sweet and sour pork!!
Is best food best Real chinese food The duck is amazing
Friendly unassuming Chinese dining. Huge portions, for a fair price. Hot and fresh- my faves are anything with eggplant. Happy they were open late as we were looking for a meal at 10pm. Will absolutely be back
Go for the food!
Just ordered a very large order on Uber Eats. This restaurant is AWSOME!! Every dish was Fantastic, well packaged and delicious! You cannot go wrong in ordering from them!! Great Food!!
its ok...
Fantastic food
A family favourite for years.
The portions are generous and their service is quite impressive. One of the best restaurants in Chinatown. A little rough around the edges but the food is amazing. Definitely worth it
This is the best place for authentic chinese food in ottawa.
Gave this resturant a try and will never order from them again. Food tasted old.
Really good Chinese restaurant with great food and fast service. I ordered their Cashew Chicken, and it was delicious. The restaurant itself is quite spacious but not fancy by any stretch of imagination. It is a good place to eat alone or with friends but is not a suitable venue for a business meeting or date.
The best duck soup and nicest people
Super super super delicious! ! ! The aunties who work there are also very nice! ! I am willing to go to Ottawa again to eat at this restaurant ! !
Delicious food and good service
Fantastic food and very friendly service.
Not impressed...slow delivery....hounded for tip... no rice side dish..no cutlery...napkins...soy sauce...an where my fortune cookie???
They are the best in Ottawa!
An Ottawa staple for delicious takeaway. The dining room lacks imagination, but food quality is top notch.
Food was delicious service was excellent older place so seats were very used and some had rips in them. Besides that food is 10 on 10
We were passing through the city for a day and found this restaurant on our way. It was absolutely delicious. We tasted won-ton soup, hot and sour soup, beef dumplings, egg rolls, pineapple chicken, fried rice, Singapore noodles and crispy beef (my favorite). Ive had better Singapore noodles but the dish was still really good. The staff was super nice and the service was perfect. The decor and equipment leave something to be desired but thats a detail in my opinion. I would be willing to drive the 2 hours from home just to eat there!!!
Ordered spring roll, shrimp dumpling, fish perfume meat string and mushroom oil vegetable. Tastes authentic. Spring roll tastes so good. Only 3 shrimp dumplings for appetizer and too hot in my mouth, too expensive. The rest is average price. Lots of selection on menu, service okay. Tried D1, 90, good.
If you want Cantonese food in Ottawa, I will recommend this restaurant. They have an extensive menu as well, and friendly staff. We had a wonderful lunch there. The facility is on the small side, but clean.
First time here. Food was amazing. Huge portions. Didnt know what to get and the couple beside us have suggestions that didnt disappoint. Will definitely go back when in Ottawa again.
Unfortunately this is not reasonable Dim Sum or non-Dim Sum we tried. The Dumplings with Peanut Sauce noted as a Hong Kong special were cool inside, unseasoned, with a the sauce was poorly made and a foreshadowing of Dim Sum to come...A non dim sum menu item ordered that would reflect the basic capability of the Kitchen being Ma po dou fu or mápó dòufu (tofu), a typical Sichuan Province dish had no resemblance to the dish; prepared with gummy ground beef rather than pork, piled with plain tofu, lacking the Doubanjain chili paste and red oil was tasteless and pointless. The server offered, the dish is a a Hong Kong version as an excuse for a total disappointment. Basic vegetable test, Gai Lan, was not broken with boiling water, greasy and inedible. Skip the their dishes and this restaurant for dim sum. Sad to write but these are the facts..
Bad food and always prank calling. E
Phenomenal food period so fresh and tasty. Would highly recommended.
Another hard review... At least until theres a major update you will be able to tell its had better days, and some great days they were -- they even have the setup for chinese weddings tucked in very tightly, overlooking a faded harper era-endorsement of the place... Its a place with real history and texture. We went more often as the food itself was generally good and with a huge menu. Both authentic and canadian chinese stuff was competitive with other options... But then the original owners retired as they often do, and the new owners seemed a bit befuddled. Quality and consistency went down, and what were already sometimes long waits for takeout became occasionally disasterous. So if you want to explore a legacy shop and roll the dice, or you just want some chill canadian chinese takeout which still seems to be most of their business, you could do worse if they are nearby. Personally Im hoping they slowly get things back on track and look forward to giving them another chance.
Friendly service. Clean, modern toilet. However, the large serving of the tofu and eggplant dish as well as the egg rolls I ordered were incredibly bland.
This a staple in centretown. Been eating here since the 70s!
Yang Shen used to be my go to for Chinese food. This last visit was an epic fail. I ordered combination plate with Ribs. Was allergic to items on other combination plate. Staff spent more time yelling at each other in Mandarin than actually paying attention to customers or any orders. I am not talking a disagreement here- this was a full on screaming match of 4 people at the same time. Finally got my order and walked home. I do not live near their location . Get home and find out I got the wrong food (probably belonged to another customer) and because I am allergic to other combination plate could not eat anything as it was all cross contaminated with allergen. Called 2 times, no one picked up. Was too far to walk and return the food- was expecting to be yelled at by staff by previous behavior. I spent over $26 for 2 egg rolls as that was all I could eat. Never again. Save yourself the stress and go elsewhere.
I ate at home. After ordering from Yang Scheng restaurant for over 150 times, I have never been dissatisfied. The sweet and sour pork chicken fried rice and mixed vegetables had a wonderful taste. The people from the restaurant who took their own time to deliver my dinner are so polite and friendly. I ve been ordering from Yang Scheng Restaurant for over 25 years
Foods good but way over priced, $25 for shrimp in lobster sauce is insane !
It s not the top of the line chinese Restaurant but good service and food. Bbq duck skin wasn t crispy and some dishes weren t good. They are fast and amazing with kids very caring. No line ups or long wait times.
Great people serving excellent food. It was very late I was travelling from North Bay to Montreal. 15 minutes to their closing time but happily excepted me to serve dinner. Meal was great delicious. Fresh food
Good quality food, excellent service and reasonable price
Great food! Thanks we will be back!
Quality of food was desirable. Will never eat there again. Only bokchoy was in the fried noodles with half cooked chicken. No soy sauce was even added.
Coming here since I was little, anytime I m in the city I make a point to go and get my favourite meal!
Good food, great service
I love the Eggrolls and the dim sum items they have. Especially the wontons with spicy peanut sauce and the sticky rice in lotus leaf. Also the fried noodles with bean sprouts and onions. Delicious Vegetarian options: Lots of vegetarian options!l no
I love this place, their food has awesome flavour. The shrimp shumai is really tasty as are the wontons and garlic baby bok choy.
Absolutely awesome food! We will be back. Service is excellent and the atmosphere is super casual and comfortable. We had a wonderful dinner with friends Vegetarian options: We had a delicious rice noodle chow mein, moo shoo vegetables, vegetable dumplings and shared them. Everything was great
I go there with my family and I love it always so good and friendly definitely recommended
Yengsheng is a small Chinese place. The menu is vast and they offer all day dimsum. Ive been a few times and each time it was great. I defiantly recommended trying the dimsum options, or even their regular menu. The location is small and the staff is a very family experience, but they do their best to accommodate how busy they can be.
Great restaurant- food is always fresh and delicious. Service is great!
Wonton soup was very good. Wu se chicken was disappointing, sauce was lacking flavour and peanut. May try going again to get something different.
Come here to get the true Ottawa Chinatown experience!
AUTHENTIC AND DELICIOUS. I could go on for paragraphs about my MAGICAL experience with the meal I ordered. It was packaged with care and pride too. Thank you to the entire team at this fine establishment. It was my honour to enjoy this meal. I felt like 5 stars on Uber was not enough. Long story short: Eat here
Ed is a phenomenal server Loved my first time here Will be back !
Great Atmosphere and friendly staff. Food is amazing!!
Loves these guys. Been chowing down with them for many years and ya gotta love the delivery guy hes always so up beat and xhill
My son loved the spring rolls. I tried the deep friend tofu with salt and pepper, which had a delicate flavour, and the sweet and sour pork was a nice contrast with the peppers and pineapple. Next time I ll try the non-fried dishes! Happy to support a local business during the occupation.
Friendly, fast and delicious! I ve ordered large takeout dishes from here recently, and have come for dine-in as well. It s clear that a lot of love and care goes into the food and service! Thank you for allowing us to create great memories of enjoying your food!
Needed to update. I have been eating here for 38 years. I have become extremely dissatisfied with their customer service and their takeout. There is one older women who is always rude for at least the last 7 years. No matter day,or time. To the point of, if I am going to eat there, I see her I dont bother. Believe she is the owners wife, or owner. Eddie is always friendly and caring. Remembes your name says hi. Asks about your family ect.Other staff is great ALSO. Authentic food. If you have allergies to shrimp stay away from the wonton soup. Again very authentic food.
We love Yang Shen. Great weatherproof delivery packaging keeping the warmth inside. Delicious food. Their shrimp Shu Mai is so juicy and delicious, the eggplant tofu is also a favourite
Delicious Chinese food and very well priced.
Great food, fabulous people. Very enjoyable and affordable!
Not my favourite place. Everything tastes the same. Not possible to have product on hand for such a extensive menu.
We have ordered out and dined in here numerous times and have never been disappointed. They package takeout orders carefully and their dine-in service is even better. The food is high-quality and the place is clean. I highly recommend this as one of the gems of Ottawa!
A little gem located right at the start of Chinatown Ottawa. We just happened to come here for a late dinner. This is a family owned establishment that has been in service since 1976! It is clean, staff is so friendly and they are popular with locals, serving local favors. We ordered the beef rice noodle and its probably the best one Ive eaten in Canada. We would definitely come back to try other dishes.
Great food qualify. One of my favourites places
Ate here yesterday. The food was very good. We ordered the shrimp shui mai, the bbq beef buns, the xiaolongbao, the chow mein, and the sichuan beef, which I particularly liked. The only thing that was only okay was the chow mein. But still, a pretty good showing. I look forward to my next visit.
Good food, good service and friendly staff.
Wonton soup had no flavour and half of my noodles were uncooked and still hard.
Reliable!
Great and warm service! Great food!
Came here lastnight for the first time in 6 years. Food was piping hot even after my 20 minute drive home. Ill be going back tonight!
Amazing!!! The food was so good. The salt and pepper seafood dish will make me go back again and again. It was delicious! Highly recommend this family run business.
I had a dinner yesterday in this restaurant when I drove by Ottawa downtown. The food is so delicious and the lady boss is very kind and helpful.
This is the best Chinese food I have had in Ottawa lately. The food is delicious. Arrives hot and very fresh. Non greasy , flavourful dishes. Everything is good and the delivery person is pleasant , honest and always has a kind word when he or she arrives.
Absolutely AMAZING every time! Great to dine in or get delivery. They are super friendly and never disappoint. The delivery guy is so warm and friendly. Big portions with DELICIOUS food and egg rolls. They have NEVER provided anything less than perfectly wonderful food. I HIGHLY recommend! Thanks Yeng Sheng! I love you guys!
At restaurant in downtown Ottawa. Craving authentic Cantonese dishes. Meal was awesome and brought back great memories. If you are in the area I highly recommend. Yang Sheng is the oldest Chinese restaurant in Chinatown established in 1976.
This is the best restaurant, a must try local spot, friendly & gracious staff, food is just absolutely amazing!
Tasty Chinese food and very cheerful staff.
We really enjoy everything about this place. We accidentally walk into the restaurant and were pleasantly surprised by the size and the cleanliness of the dinning room. The staffs are very friendly and the foods are so good. My daughter love the ducks and the bird nest.
Very authentic taste and nice staff!! We had food there the first day we landed in Ottawa. We tried the bbq duck noodles and wonton, and it tasted exactly like how it s like back home.
$20 for 5 pieces of beef. Dont waste your time.
Best food in town
I love this place been going here for years and years.
Today my mother and I went to the Yang Sheng restaurant for lunch. Inside the restaurant it is a cozy atmosphere, the waitress pleasantly happy, and the food arrived on small plates. The waitress brought us dinner plates and forks. We ordered Stir fried mixed vegetables and Chicken with green onion and ginger. Yummy!
Wonderful staff, very friendly and attentive. Food was delicious and very fresh! We came after a long day on the road and we were so grateful they were open late. The steamed whole fish with ginger and shallots was perfect, no earthy taste.. delicate and tasty. Beef was tasty and tender, vegetarian fried rice was well seasoned. Thanks for a great meal!
We asked for FRIED rice and they gave us rice with sauce and beef, the description of the meals were inaccurate to what we received. All the meat which were in the dishes had a smell. The taste was not the best...
Excellent food, best service. They stayed 45 minutes passed closing time just for us to finish out meals. I would go again.
Amazing authentic food. Been going here for decades. Recommend: BBQ Pork and Noodle Soup Parking: Parking on site is limited. Street parking available
I discovered this restaurant in the early 90s when we wanted to enjoy Chinatown on Somerset Street. By chance, I discovered this wonderful restaurant which offers many tasty Asian meals. I still go there regularly even after all these years! From fried noodles (beef, pork, chicken, etc.) to stir-fried vegetables, everything is delicious. The prices are reasonable and the portions are very generous. Dont be fooled by the general appearance of the restaurant. I confirm it to you: you will not regret it. This restaurant was my trigger for all the love I have for Asian food!
Lived in Ottawa for over 20 years, but never been to Yang Sheng restaurant. Today I order a congee dish and dim sum dish from SkpTheDishes, wow, the flavor of the dishes just blew me away, really decent authentic! Packaging could be better, but food was delicious. Definitely a recommend! Update [2022-09-03]: we had dined in this restaurant a few times now, and it did not disappoint! The dishes are honestly just like home cooked meals, using fresh ingredients, nothing fancy but very hearty and delicious! Staff was very friendly, they are like your neighborhood aunties and uncles that always tell you to eat more. Very warm feeling.
Very good food, in quantity for a reasonable price. The boss is very friendly and gives good advice.
DELICIOUS DIM SUM
One of our familys favorite places to eat! The food is delicious, so many great dishes to choose from but we always get the salted egg soup and the salted chicken wings. The staff really makes this place special, they are so welcoming.
Vegetarian options: Excellent flavourful, also great for low carb vegetarian diets Parking: Behind the restaurant 8 parking spaces off summerset
Not impressed by their service although the taste are OK.
I like their new cook. Also love taking part of the meal home for leftovers the next day. <3
My favourite chinese restaurant in the city.
GOOD. Fair prices. Good but classic and without finesse. Good welcome
We ve been here a few times now and have not been disappointed. Must have tried 10 to 12 different menu items by now an all have been very good and portion sizes are appropriate for the pricing. Service has always been too notch and friendly. My only compliant is the tea is pre steeped and lacks flavour. Keep up the great service, food and attitude Yang Sheng team.
Vegetarian options: Options veggie Dietary restrictions: Depending that u order. Parking: Easy parking
Best Food in Ottawa. Period. I have been eating here since the 80s and I have never been disappointed. Huge menu.
Been going here for over 25 years and it is the absolute best Chinese food in Ottawa! Try the Hongkong style real BBQ pork!!
Mushroom soup tasted like water from a mop
My go-to. Love the crispy noodle dishes
Not sure what has changed, they could not understand my address despite spelling it out - food never arrived, ordered twice, driver got lost despite being 10 blocks away from restaurant, and driver asked stranger to call me giving my name and phone number to people I dont know. Wow!!! Called to follow-up - put on hold -
Best Chinese Food!! Ive been looking forward to this meal for more time than id like to admit to. I can honestly say this has been my favorite meal in Ottawa which is odd to say but true. Must get the Spicy Salt Wings, Beef with Rice Noodles & Soy Sauce, and General Taos Chicken. The flavors were so good and fresh! Im from San Francisco and I know the best of the best and let me tell you this is the place I would eat at every day if I could. Sooooo good. But now sooooo full. Yum
Great wings and customer service
Simply taste bad! Just taste bad.
Great food and very friendly staff! Will come back the next time I m in Ottawa
An institution in Ottawa. Its among the oldest restaurants and shops in ChinaTown with at least 30+ years of patronage by friends and family. Always good, simple and affordable Chinese.
I have been going here for 44 years, still love it. Yang Sheng is my go to for Chinese food no matter where I live in Ottawa.
Awesome Chinese restaurant!! Absolutely love the food and amazing service! For me the hot tea is always the best
Beautiful work of art where we sat, how everything felt was perfect!
Very nice staff, but the food is not the best though. Their menu needs more photos too
I love this place!!! I always recommend this place to anyone who likes to feel like you arent in Canada anymore once you walk in!
Favorite place to eat. Very relaxed atmosphere.
Went for the first time and one of the main things I can say about this place is the employees of this place are so welcoming and friendly. They even offer us free tea while we wait for our take out order! Plus they offer an extensive menu with different options for you to pick! Highly recommend!
Slightly upgraded. Better experience but still issues with ordering. Some days better than others on food quality.
I was not very impressed. All of the noodle dishes were very overcooked and mushy. The fried noodle dish had no flavour. Ordered delivery.
Came here for the first time with a friend! Loved it so much!! The service was excellent, the staff is friendly, and of course the food was delicious (General Tao, Icecream, Fried Noodles and Shrimp). Very large amount of food, and very filling. We were very satisfied! Thank you!!
All the food we ordered was delicious (especially the shrimp stuffed eggplant with black bean sauce). What made it 5 stars was the service. Rita was so kind and made us feel welcome. Restaurant is very clean inside and the food came quickly. We will definitely come back!
Decent Chinese restaurant. The restaurant was surprisingly bigger than I thought it would be from the outside. Friendly staffs as well! The food we ordered were all nice, but they weren t the best we ve had.
Large portions, delicious noodle platters and egg rolls. Everything stayed great for leftovers the day after. Plus the staff there are all super kind.
Great food, great service.
