No ice cream samples to see what to order! Seriously, you lost 3 clients because you were not able to explain what is inside the pink chocolate ice cream and dont want to give samples! Good luck in business! Reply to response from the owner: ** It is a good example of fallacy of False equivalence/inapplicable comparison: 1. Starbucks is a well-known brand all over the word with relatively standard products. Your store is not even in the same category. 2. In Starbucks, sellers/servers could explain about the products and there is a big sign on the wall with ingredients and/or flavor explanations; it was not the case for your store. 3. Starbuck is not an ice-cream store and has variety of products. 4. In Starbucks, they give you samples of items which are sold in bulk, not units, like already brewed coffee. I am not sure if you go to Starbucks often. 5. Starbucks employees pass trainings on how to communicate with the clients efficiently; what we saw has no indication of anything close to this. It seems the store owners are more interested in arguing with clients rather than addressing their business issues. You could walk into a few stores in the area, including Starbucks, to see how they address client questions.

These guys were very busy but did a good job keeping the line moving. The gelato scooper did a great job packing on a fair amount of gelato per serving. They had plenty of flavors available. The most out of surrounding shops.

We dined in n had the gelato ! It was fantastic ! The carrot cake we brought home was dry with very little frosting n nuts . The displayed cake had 2 layers with frosting on edges , the take home is 1 no frosting on edges !

Gelato had an aftertaste to it. I tried their pistachio and hazelnut, hazelnut was okay but pistachio was very bad in taste. Location is good but the prices are very high.

The staff are extremely rude! I have never been to an icecream shop where you are not allowed to sample the flavours. At this shop you have to pay for the icecream first, before selecting your flavour. The gelato was decent, there are better icecream shops with kinder staff. I will not be returning.

The gelato is pretty good, but on par with what you can get at most gelato shops. It s a shame that they don t offer free samples because who wants to buy a gelato that they don t like? Not me!

I want to extend a huge thank you to Youba for creating such a delicious almond croissants, they are so exceptional that they brought my dad back to his memories of the 1960s when he used to enjoy the same kind of croissant. It was truly a special moment for him. What made the experience even more magical was the 60s French music playing in the background, which perfectly complemented the atmosphere. My dad, who is 76 years old, was overjoyed, and it made our visit truly unforgettable. Thank you for your passion for what you do it really shows in every detail!

Had the kiwi sorbet and the frutto di bosco sorbet. Very good. Wish I got a bit more for the price I paid. Plenty of seating room both inside and outside and not too busy even on a warm sunny Saturday afternoon. There s other options than the gelato/sorbet but I didn t try them. I ve had paninis from here before but didn t see them on the menus, not sure if it s a seasonal thing. Vegetarian options: Sorbet is a vegetarian option. Plenty of flavours for it too. Dietary restrictions: Allergens to peanuts and nuts are a risk here. There s a few gelato options involving them and there s a lot of risk with cross contamination. Parking: Difficult to find parking in byward market. Wheelchair accessibility: Fairly accessible to get in as the doors are usually open.

I love, absolutely love the ice creams here. From a hundred 100 flavours to offer to the layout of the parliament write from the cafe seating indoor+outdoor, this place is heavenly when it comes to its desserts. I tried chees cake and the dark choclate ice cream here. Not only that, Ive been here in a winter storm just to have the ice cream and its still worth all that. Beautiful. During summers, since its in the heart of Byward Market, it makes it one of the top places to be. Packed on the weekends and their latest seating arrangment, ambience basically, the place is booming. Its big enough to accomodate a huge crowd. So dont worry about last minute plans =D

What a horrible and full of attitude service, there are so many flavors but God forbid you ask for a test taste so you can determine the favor you want it took the server not even a second to say NO, are you kidding me for the dam price you are charging its not an unfair request. What a slow service, 4 servers standing and looking at eachother instead of serving the line of clients that were waiting for service, to say the least it was a very disappointing experience. I dont care how good the quality of the food is if your service is at zero you are not worth visiting. This is located in the capital city of a country , you represent the people and hospitality of a country and this is how you represent what a disappointment, I must also mention I have visited this place many times but prior to the renovation they were great their service was great and that was my expectation when I visited this time, well never again, EXPECTATION NOT MET, SERVICE HORRIBLE!

There is a wide variety of gelato flavours, coffee and pastries. The cubanito and pistachio gelatos are delicious! I asked what the cubanito tastes like, and the gentleman serving me said like almonds and rum. I decided to have one scoop of Irish cream and he asked if Im sure I only want one scoop, and he added a little extra on top plus a little dollop of the cubanito. It was kind of him! I shouldve gotten a whole scoop of the cubanito! The bathroom was a little gross. It needs to be cleaned and aired out.

Latte was amazing. Gelato to die for delicious, until I found grit in it. This sort of stuff can happen. I told the person working they said it s chocolate. I told him it doesn t melt or break. I said I don t want my money back. He then checked and couldn t disagree. He did not remove the remainder from behind counter. That bugged me. The gelato and coffee is excellent just the staff needs some training.

I ordered an iced coffee and they took 10 minutes to serve it to me and when I received it 3/4 of the iced coffee was just ice cubes and the rest was a tiny bit of coffee. I dont recommend it plus its very expensive.

My family went into this place and I couldnt believe it. Noo oo tasting the gelato before I order. Not even after I said I would pay for my order first. After a few words of exchange. Could waste more time in this place. I think just because they are in the market they are lucky to have some sort of traffic, otherwise boooooo. Plenty of gelato place around. Shame on you.

BEWARE OF HEALTH AND HYGIENE!!!! I ordered a cheesecake and they gave me one that was from yesterday. When I told them that I would like a fresh one, they said no they will not cut it and that they should get rid of the one from yesterday and that it is fresh. When I asked for a discount they said no it is a fresh cake even if it is from yesterday s batch and so they are selling it at the same price of today s cakes. They said they prefer to give me a refund than to cut the new cake. How is this hygienic???? And if yesterday s cake is fresh for them then what do they consider an old cake. Moreover, I did not even touch the cake like they claimed in their reply and told them to change it immediately after the employee gave it to me. PLUS, if they do not take back cakes because of hygiene like they claimed in their response, then why did they take the cake back and just put it back on the shelves to be sold again to other clients. When I asked for another cake, the employee accidentally opened the fresh cheesecake and when I asked for that piece since they opened it either way, they still refused. I used to come here so often with my friends but after this issue, there is no way I am coming back and will not recommend this place.

Can t believe that the gelato 1000 grams is NOT actual 1000 grams, there s only 836 grams WITH the cups and caps! I m pretty sure the measurement is by WEIGHT, cause it s 1000gr shown on the menu Can t believe they are still refuting me. So it might only have 800 grams of content, which means one fifth of my money was taken for no reason. I m so disappointed at this place. I m so lucky to have a kitchen scale so they won t TRICK me twice!!!!!

I asked if I could try the red velvet and they said customers aren t allowed to sample. Fine - I asked them what it tastes like and they said strawberry. I said oh so it s not like red velvet cake? And they said yes it is like red velvet cake. I said red velvet cake does not have strawberries and then they admitted they d never tried that flavour. They asked one of their colleagues what it tasted like and they admitted they also had never tasted it. So you re telling me neither of you have tasted it, you can t tell me what it s supposed to taste like, and I m not allowed to taste it? Apparently so. If their product matches the quality of their customer service and staff training: beware.

Just had a nice cuppacino on a rainy afternoon today.. it was a random walk in to a nice, cozy atmosphere with lots of options for gelato and delicious-looking bakes. Coffee goes without saying.. no eggless bakery options for us so had to skip them.. Recommend the vibes and food

I knew first hand by the mountains of ice cream that it was not real gelato but was at least hoping a decent flavour. So wrong, strawberry one was like eating cheap kid s lipstick. Had to throw it completely in the trash. One star for the decent service.

Pricing is confusing. Ended up overpaying for the gelato. Asked for clarification on pricing and got a passive aggressive response that still didn t answer my question. Gelato was fine but half the cone was empty inside and it was $12.49 for a small cone. I definitely felt scammed. Half of their cakes and desserts are from Costco and are ridiculously overpriced.. very questionable. Might as well get their ice cream from Costco too. Would not recommend this place.

I went there twice to get gelato and their flavour selection was great. Good portions too! The atmosphere was a bit chaotic and the ordering system a bit all over the place, as you pay first but it is confusing and the line is not very organized. Also the place is too loud, which is a pity because it would be so nice to sit and enjoy eating there as the place is very cute. If you wish to have a more relaxed and intimate experience skip going there during evenings.

Went a couple hours ago. Service was not very kind, asked for a single sample of a gelato flavour and the front staff gave a strange look, acting annoyed saying no more after this. I asked for it just once? Yes, my friend had asked for a couple samples just before me but we are not the same person. Turned me off from ordering at all. It is standard to try out a flavour prior to ordering at every gelato place Ive been to. And yes, Ive just now read your policy but its questionable when 1) the spoons are single use and 2) when it was given without complaint to the previous customer. If this is truly the case, be consistent.

I absolutely love the Tuxedo cake! I made the mistake of splitting a slice with my hubby. We had to split a second slice immediately afterwards so we didnt end up divorced. I regret splitting the second slice with him. I need to go back for more. Im going to add chocolate gelato next time! No splitting!

Great Cafe with delicious ice creams and gelato

Product was great but unlike other gelato/ice cream establishments, there is no sampling. You would think when you re the only customer on a slow afternoon you could try ONE sample. At almost 11$ it s not a cheap food item to just toss in the garbage if you don t like it. Also, the waitress was actually rude and condescending about it! Go somewhere else for a more pleasant experience.

I bought two 500 g cups of ice cream yesterday, but they were not 500 g. It seemed less, so I weigthed them at home and they had 400 g. I just think its important to mention it because we paid for a kilo and they gave us 800 g. The ice cream was ok, though. Edit: thanks for your answer! That is helpful. Maybe you can clarify it on the board (where it appears in grams) to avoid confusion.

You have a blonde girl that works at the cashier that asks unwanted questions and makes remarks that no one requested and sadly none of the coworkers seem to be bothered!

They don t allow to use washrooms when it s crowded as they afraid it will get out of order. Overheard the staff talking to each other that this is their boss rule. Before I placed an order I specifically asked if it works and then told me yes, after the food was served they told it doesn t work.

Staff were lovely, but the prices were ridiculous for the portion they give you. We choose four different cakes, one was very good, two of them were ok, and one was bad, but the slices were so small for the price we paid, it wasnt worth the visit.

The staff was not friendly, the cashier was rude and didn t explain things patiently. I ordered an iced latte, asked for lactose free milk which they didn t have, I replaced it with oat milk but when I got the drink they mistakenly made it with almond milk. The latte was very watery and tasted like burnt coffee. I had a sip and threw it away. Not recommended at all.

Amazing ice cream, BUT We went there 2 days in a row for ice cream. Day 1 : the person that was serving ice cream tell us : we can t give you a spoon to taste because of the regulations with health Canada Day 2 : the same person literally takes out an Oreo of the ice cream and tell us : we keep it for the kids . I mean I ve never in my life seen someone literally taking away from you food that has been served already.

A complete rip off! 8 dollars and change for a tiny ice cream cone!

My sister and I were looking for a cafe and found this cute place. We were so excited as we came inside the store. Lots of options to choose from and the gelato looked delicious. But as soon as we re ready to order at the cash, the guy who was taking our orders wasn t really giving us the customer service that we needed. I didn t want to judge, maybe it was his personality, but he showed an attitude like he didn t want to be there taking our orders. Good thing the other staffs were approachable especially the ones who served us the frappe and gelato otherwise our experience there would be unsatisfactory.

Blue bubble gum gelato had m&ms with nuts. People have nut allergies. It should be advertised that it contained nuts because my boyfriend is having a reaction now because of this. Horrible.

Update: Owner sent me their log and it seems like an honest mistake/miscommunication. They mistakenly ordered 5 total gelatos instead of 4. Though we were served with 4. I admire that they went ahead and corrected this by refunding me the money. I am an old customer anyway and my wife loves this place. Gelatos are great. I have adjusted my ratings. ----- I just ordered 4 small gelatos with 1 waffle cone. I see the total charge on my credit card is $43.45 it should have been around $35. 4x7.49 + 1 ( cone ) = 30.96 + 13% tax = $35 It seems cashier adds 25% tip without any consent. Very dissapointed. :( They can literally cross check my order with this charge. Was there today at around 5 PM. Ill wait for an explanation. Update: sent details.

The gelato was good, however, the reason I didn t give it 5 starts is because I asked to try a flavour before buying it but they told me they don t allow customers to try flavours. Considering the price we paid, I had expected the opportunity to at least taste the flavour before committing to a purchase.

We went here to try their Gelato. Firstly they asked to pre pay and then come to choose flavor. After paying for 3 cups, the lady serving says theres no tasting! OK after that we got 3 different flavors as we could not taste to see which ones are good. To our disappointment,none of the flavors were good enough to be qualified as Gelato. Too sweet and full of chemical essence ,nothing natural at all. Imagine my kids throwing their half eaten cups in the bin, thats a first! Total waste of time and money!!! AND THE SERVER WAS SO RUDE !!!

Worst experience ever. The prices are too high. Ive waited in line for more than 20min and paid more than 20$ to get two small cones with only one ball on it. While i explicitly stated that I wanted 2 cones with 2 flavors each.

The portion sizes are laughable. Only three staff working a giant line and one of them, a little French man was incompetent showing clear frustration at putting ice cream in a cup. Gelato was pretty tasty.

Very good customer service! The sorbet was very flavorful and fresh.. but the gelato (we got ones with chocolate in it) was not yummy at all.. sorry :(

The service attitude of the woman with a mole on her mouth was very poor. I paid in cash and was not given a meal. It was a very unpleasant experience.

Terrible gelato, i had passion fruit and Frutti di bosco, both taste like cheap flavouring and to much sugar. I had to trash it.

We ordered a small cone and a small cup of ice cream for a total of $17 .The ice cream tastes good, I asked for a pink cone, but the waiter gave me a normal one. The price is really expensive.

I went here with my family and partner, and it was fantastic. My mother has celiac disease, and the staff were knowledgeable about their products and were very accommodating and understanding of things like using a clean spoon or avoiding cross-contamination. On top of that, the staff were extremelt friendly, service was fast, and the gelato was good. I hope to come back here to try out their bakery, because if its anything like their gelato, it will absolutely be worth the trip ! Vegetarian options: They had lots of options that were vegetarian, although there were no options that I noticed for vegans. Dietary restrictions: My mother has celiac disease, and they were very accommodating and understanding. I also have several allergies, and I was not concerned for my well-being in the slightest. Kid-friendliness: There were lots of kids in the restauraunt and they were able to accommodate them. There were various portion sizes for them and lots of space for them to move and run around.

A place to avoid !!! I am one of many unhappy client of this coffee shop who was scammed by charging me twice the same order when using their payment terminal device. (The first time it says that the transaction failed so i used my card another time). When I checked my online bank account I found that I was charged twice for the same order so I informed the person there. He told me that he cant reimburse me and gave me a number to call to solve this problem. Of course the number never respond even when sending a voice message !!! My advice is to avoid this place or at least bring money in cash to avoid being scammed like I was. Update after the owner response: this scam happened a week ago and I am still seing that I was charged twice for the same order. Its too easy to blame interac. In Other stores (if such thing happened) they check immediately their bank account to see if the transaction was made and reimburse you immediately. FYi I called you twice by phone and l have left a voice message with my phone number. As you admitted that you received my voice message, you didnt make any step to call me back !!! And now you are asking me to send an email to do the same !!! Sorry you wasted my money and now you are asking me to waste my time !!! If you are serious enough to solve this problem you have my phone number in the voice message, you can call me back to solve the problem. Have a good week-end

Nice location, nice staff, good ice cream. Gelato flavours are plenty, and the flavour is pretty good. Prices are a bit higher than other places in town. A few of the pastries seem to be from Costco (ie Tuxedo, Tiramisu, and raspberry cheesecake) so I didn t try any. Tried the Affogato which was good, but too expensive especially since you only get 1 scoop of ice cream in it. I like the location, but not my first choice if I m craving gelato.

Everything looks delicious, but when you actually taste the gelato and cake, the flavors suck. We tried the salted caramel, and it tasted like coffee. We hate coffee, so we didnt expect that flavor at all. We also tried the carrot cake, which looked delicious, but when I actually tried it once we got home, it tasted horrible. I have had a lot of carrot cakes, but none this bad. Ones from big box stores taste better than the one they had. Im not sure if all the cakes are this bad, but I was very disappointed paying $6.99 for a horrible slice of cake. And over $10 for a scoop of gelato which was the wrong flavor.

This fake bakery buys all their cakes, muffins, cookies etc from Costco and resells them overpriced in glass displays. Everything was dry and bland, and the young staff are not knowledgeable at all as to what they are selling. We threw the carrot cake and cheesecake in the trash as it was the worst weve ever had. The chocolate chip cookies were at least 5 days old and stale. Definitely wont be going back there.

More than likely, you d feel better about the food you buy if the service was good. But the guy behind the counter was just a jerk. His name was Sham or something similar, south Asian in complexion and he had no reason to be rude. I payed for a large and he gave me one scoop of gelato. When i said i bought a large he just replied that s just how it is, do you want it or not? . If you hate your job that much just work somewhere else at this point cause you re making it worse for everyone else working there and entering. The gelato wasn t even good, I ended up giving more than half of it to a homeless person on Rideau. So maybe he was doing me a favour by giving me a small.

The sign outside really caught my eye, so I decided to give it a shot. It did not disappoint, great food, great service and the style of the restaurant was on point. I couldnt decide on which flavor of Gelato to get. I asked one of the employees what was best. She was sweet and quick to answer. While sitting down I noticed that all the employees were on point in there task and working hard. Not only that the place was really clean thats a big thing for me. I give the staff 10/10, Gelato 10/10 and restaurant looks 8/10. I will be going back most definitely.

Very bright, clean place, with exceptionally friendly staff. The gelato is delicious. Splurge on the large so that you can try three flavours. Trust me, it will not be an easy choice. The lemon however is my favourite.

This place hit the spot, delicious gelato and friendly staff. I had the pistachio and pink chocolate. We enjoyed the nice patio area outside on a beautiful day.

Some of the best gelato I ve had in a long time. Nice variety of flavours. Many different fruit and chocolate options. Pricing is reasonable for the size and quality. Good places to sit both inside and outside. Staff made sure the outside tables were clean and pleasant to sit at.

The setup of the store is a little weird and there was pressure to make a fast decision without looking at the flavours. It s fairly expensive for the amount you get and I ve had better but it s not necessarily bad. Biggest downside of the place is that it was highly infested with flies and fruit flies.

Save yourself the trip for this experience. Was there three weeks ago and was given the opportunity to do a taste test before committing to a 10$ one scoop ice cream cone but was denied today with we haven t done this in over a year answer. I explained I was just at your establishment three weeks ago and was given a spoon to taste but the young French boy reiterated the same words like as if he was an automated machine. For the establishment, please adjust your service and experience to match your overinflated pricing. For the clientele, Piccolo Grande had been around for wayyy longer and offers a much better selection, experience, and of course a taste test.

Went late at night. Friendly staff, great gelato. The Affogato is good too!! The cup sizes look small but they pile it on.

The ice cream is good. But the container they serve it to go is not the most appropriate. I walked 15 min home, and it melted about 35%.

Rude customer service. My friend asked one simple QUESTION to the worker working infront where the gelato was and he kept giving attitude and said go over there I am not doing cash etc . Like chill we were asking a question not buying yet. The guy had blonde hair looked french or russian he was so rude and inconsiderate. He seemed very racist to both of me and my friend. We left and did not bother to stay after that to buy anything.Get better workers and train them to speak properly to customers. Will not return

Yummy gluten free gelato. Open on mondays when other gelato places are not. Great selection of gelatos and sorbets.

We were there for vacation, great place and well located in the heart of the By market. On the other hand, rather unusual and a great lack of respect for the customers, we were sitting on the outside terrace under the awning when suddenly there was a good downpour of rain. We say to ourselves, great at least we are safe. And thats when during this moment of heavy rain, an employee started to close the awnings of the terrace, I couldnt believe it!! We asked her why she closed the awnings (when there were customers seated well sheltered from the rain) the answer we got was most shocking; my boss asked me to do it. So, it was half soaked that we went inside to finish eating our meal. Unheard of for customer service with the greatest lack of respect, I give you a 6 star!!

Really expensive for what you get. $7.50 for a tiniest cup ever, so I couldn t justify buying it and left. They told us no taste tasting, which is kinda rude, so I can t say much for the flavours, but it didn t look that good, so I don t think I missed out on much.

Really nice, calm, pleasant Café to enjoy a quick snack. Stopped in this past weekend Nov. 25, 2023 and was really happy with the service the two staffs that was working that day provided. Friendly, food was delicious, coffee was really good. Their gigantic muffins they have for sale is filling. They got some nice variety of ice cream flavours there as well. They guy who gave me a small sample of one of the ice cream was generous. We were just talking about the flavours and he offered me to try a small scoop. Thank you for that. Will definitely be back again when I visit the city and area.

I loved this place as much as I loved the gelato. It is located in the market with more than just gelato, there are plenty of food selections. Lots of seating and plenty of hot drinks to choose from. Kid-friendliness: Kids are always welcome Wheelchair accessibility: The restaurant is wheelchair accessible with everything on one floor.
