Espresso, baked goods & light fare offered in a bright, industrial space with a patio.
Planet coffee is abnormally busy and always packed with people just chilling there on any time of the day. It has a cozy area in the Byward area-ally ish vibe. The drinks are fantastic and the food are interesting such as the creme cheese brownie and the espresso brownie
Tried the pumpkin square along with the peanut butter oat bar. We had a matcha latte and hot chocolate. The vibe is chill and the desserts are amazing! Drinks were up to par as well! Recommend for a coffee/dessert stop!
Very cozy little coffee shop right off of the ByWard market business. The fact it is tucked away surrounded by oldtimey buildings really add to the relaxing atmosphere. The date, rhubarb and the pumpkin square were all delicious. The iced moka was really good and I also recommend the ice tea and the double shot flat white.
Cappuccino and cookies were good, I love the courtyard atmosphere. The service was a bit lacking though. Fast but not as joyful as you’d expect especially if you get tourists, you need to put a smile on and be joyful. I came in smiling and came out disappointed by the service ☹️ maybe next time I’ll have to wait until I’m served to pay the tip 🤷🏼♀️
I visited Ottawa as a tourist and ended up in this lovely coffee shop one day. The barista was very welcoming and friendly. I asked for an iced matcha to go 🍵 and it was very pricey for what it was. I do not recommend this drink based on size, taste and price. The atmosphere of this coffee shop was really nice in warm June weather.
Coffee shop in a really cute courtyard with ample seating. Good and fast service. Gas station quality latte and Americano and Avocado toast a bit of a joke. (I asked for no feta but the pureed avocado was much more lemony than one would expect) Breakfast Panini was much better. I would stick to having a pastry next time.
Lovely coffee shop with plenty of indoor seating. Loved the vibe and cozy atmosphere. We tried the tomato soup and avocado sandwich, which were awesome, though the sandwich seemed quite small for me. The Earl Grey tea and hot chocolate were also good. Highly recommend and would be happy to visit again.
Excellent coffee! Some delicious pastries too! Nice atmosphere and seating. Cashier could have been friendlier.. Overall it was good.
The staffs are very kind.
Unfortunately the latte was maybe one of the worst lattes I ve had from an independent coffee shop. But worst were the bathrooms. I m not sure how they could be that dirty at 8:30 on a Wednesday. The toilet paper dispenser doesn t work at all, need to shred the toilet paper or use paper towel. No coat hook.
Just ordered an iced pumpkin spice latte and it was so terrible I had to dump it. Sucks cause I payed a total of $8 just for a drink:/
A nice spot to hang out!
Staff was unfriendly, cappuccino was cold. Very bad experience.
I love wildberry Squared, it s tasty highly recommend
I used to like this spot. Plenty of small tables and not too many wifi moochers loitering around. Good drinks. But there are too many laptop jockeys here now. Can you do your graduate thesis or your coding or your bad poetry in private like everyone else guys?
Tucked away, excellent, unique & homemade-looking pastries, ginger cookie, pumpkin square, cheesecake, good coffee, hot chocolate & usually can find a spot to sit.
Coffee is always great. Baked goods were fresh.
Awesome location in an old stone courtyard
One of the best coffees Ive had in a long time.
The owner of the coffee shop rushed me to order while I was reading my book. I just thought that was rude to do because I really love this coffee shop. The food is good coffee is great! But the owner was a bit mean.
Best coffee shop in Ottawa. Only downside is there are very little outlets for charging devices. Best desserts
The food is good, and specifically the coffee is amazing! The mapleway is my favourite drink there. I do find it s always really busy though and sometimes the staff aren t very friendly. Not rude by any means. But just aren t very conversational or attentive.
Absolutely fantastic coffee shop with great food and a cozy atmosphere. The roast beef panini is honestly one of the best I ve had. Staff is very friendly and welcoming.
Very nice coffee shop with great pastry options and nice working area
The level of rudeness at this place is truly shocking. I had a disappointing experience with one staff member a young blonde woman who displayed a disturbing sense of entitlement. After purchasing a black coffee and a bottle of water, for which I tipped $5 on a $7 total, I decided to bring my empty cup back inside as a courtesy, to help clear the table for new customers and make it easier for the staff to clean. However, when I brought the cup inside, this staff member rudely instructed me not to leave it on the sugar and trash table, where customers typically leave their cups in other cafes, but instead to dispose of it in a bin around the corner. Her tone was incredibly condescending, to the point where even another customer, an older gentleman, laughed at how entitled she sounded. When I later mentioned the incident to the café owner, they seemed completely indifferent. I used to enjoy visiting this café whenever I was near ByWard Market because of its location, but after this experience, I wont be returning. The level of rudeness here is unacceptable, and its disappointing that such a place continues to operate.
Great coffee. Cakes and other baked goods are all homemade and very tasty . The coffee is great
Very good coffee and tea, lots of taste
Nice coffee shop. The coffee is not very strong. Service is fast
A beautiful coffee for Brunch. Outside table under the sun is the best choice here. Michael Dao - UCA Immigration in Ottawa Sep 2024 www.DingCuCanada.Info
Not a good espresso, its like a Starbucks.
Amazing coffee! Flavourful and strong. Great price too. We ordered 4 different drinks and they all came out perfectly. Too bad we are from Toronto and won t be able to have this coffee back home!
Cute patio, great mocha, nice staff:)
Fabulous Americano
Cute little cafe with great service. But the matcha latte and lemon tea cake were disappointing. Not sure if its just my bad experience today since there were so many good reviews. The matcha latte was so diluted it tasted more like plain water. The lemon tea cake tasted nothing of lemon and tea but pure sugar. Name is quite misleading.
Good coffee and a place with a lot of seating for your group
lovely environment. love the chai tea latte. staff are friendly.
Great little coffee shop to get drinks and pastries. I wish they had mode non-caffeine options but their matcha latte is delicious
Really solid spot. Very good coffee and very kind service. Cookies were quite good. Of all the spots tried around byward, this was the best I tried.
Nice rubarb scone
Extremely rude staff. I asked about whether a pastry was gluten free. Her reply: NO . No explanation, just a subtext of eff off. I went back to the display case of different treats and saw it was written blondies - GF , so I go back to this cashier and order one. We don t have them. Again, no explanation, extremely rude tone. I said you don t have them as in you don t sell them or you don t have them because you sold out? So to that, she replies, with extreme annoyance: we sold out. THATS why you don t SEE THEM in the DISPLAY CASE. I was in shock. I don t know what I did to deserve this horrible treatment, but I will never go back to this coffee shop again. For the past fifteen years or so, this has been one of my favourite coffee shops. Today, that all changed. My mother and sister and her partner were there too and all felt the service was extremely negative and cold. My sister experienced a similar experience with a different cashier/barista working there today too, but I don t want to write a review on her part. We are all just extremely disappointed with what s happened to this place.
Food
It was fine
Perfect location for a relaxing coffee and desert .
Great service. Amazing bagels!
The store is aesthetically pleasing, however the service and quality is far worse than subpar. The barista finished my order before I was done ordering, and my iced latté was an iced coffee. If you like coffee and have an opinion, don t come here. Your home brew is probably better. I don t typically take time out of my day to speak negatively of others but this was the exception!
Very quaint and perfect to relax and meet up with a friend . I had difficulty finding the place as it is hidden inside a courtyard like setting. Great location in byward market. Superb coffee
Romance is in the air
Cool little hidden cafe in ByWard Market with lots of outdoor tables. Limited food options for lunch (basic panini selection that was good but not something I d go out of my way for). They have a large selection of baked goods. Only tried the rhubarb square but that was really yummy! Quick service; def more of a coffee shop like it says on the box.
Lemon square and Rhubarb square each split between 2 were very good! Fast service, friendly, perfect outdoor door table setting on a warm morning. Regular coffee was very good.
Super cute cafe! Super good coffee! Super yummy baked goods! What more could you ask for? Staff is super friendly too :)
Awful
A cozy little coffee shop in the heart of the market which is always full. What does that tell you? It tells you that its really the only place in the immediate area to get a decent espresso.
Literally my fav coffee shop, I go every single morning and get my large black coffee before I start school, I made it a habit of walking 30 min there and 30 min back at the start of my school year and do it everyday. People are so so nice and make my entire morning. Love the atmosphere
Dear Planet Coffee how are you? Busy I hope! I am a regular customer of this cute, cozy, and charming little refuge tucked away in the Bayward Market. When you enter the path into the Coffee Shop, Magic Happens! The air, the atmosphere, the birds signing, is just Heaven. Upon entering the coffee shop itself, I fall in love. It is so cute, and cozy! The bakery goods so delicious and simple. I cannot tear myself away! My favorite are all the Cookies. There are: Double chocolate which is perfect for a winter day with mint cocoa tea! Peanut butter which goes heavenly along with a ice cold carbonate soda, any day! oatmeal and oatmeal chocolate are so good! there is also The molasses cookies which I adore with my favorite carbonate soda: Raspberry & Lime Ice Cold. And the Pannie? Oh dont even get me started. I Love It! The turkey pannie with sweet peppers chilli sauce is a gift of sandwiches in itself! Pair it with the carbonate soda Raspberry & Lime, and a cookie. Sit outside under one of the trees, observe your surroundings, watch the people, dogs, and family walk pass, and indulge! Your colder to heaven then you could imagine. I love this place, and the service is spot On! I love it here, and in my heart you will remain ForEver! I just want to say: Stay Strong! And Keep fighting the good fight! You guys and this little gem are the Best! Keep being awesome, and Ill keep imaging myself and my family here once again, and who knows, it may just happen! I believe in Miracles, Do you? Sincerely: Miranda barona. Regular customer, diplomat, Canada by choice. God Bless Planet Coffee.
Great Cappacino and Mochachino!
Super lovely atmosphere with a great location. The day I was there they opened all the windows and it felt like a picnic day with the spring breeze coming in. I absolutely recommend this cozy location.
Nice coffee shop
Really nice coffee
Coffee and matcha were good but paninis were underwhelming. What made the experience less than enjoyable was that when our family of 4 moved two small tables together, the barista came over and rudely told us to move the table back as we were blocking a busy area as they often get a line wrapping around the store . This was unfortunate as we were forced to share a tiny table for 2 while the line never surpassed more than one person disappointed :/
Great coffee and a nice location as a pedestrian, always packed every time Im there though so you probably wont find room to sit and eat.
Great local coffeeshop!
Their tap payment wasnt working so it was cash only. They were good to extend a tab so I could go to the bank afterwards.
Coffee is always great, their pastries are so good too. Highly recommend.
Very friendly staff they are super helpful. I love the vibe. Must visit this place
Really good coffee, and lovely cozy spot
I had a horrible experience at this place. The customer service and drinks are okay. This story is a bit long whirled and while it had nothing to do with the owner or staff, it did take place at their business and it profoundly and negatively affected me, as a young woman. I was in the bathroom( which is gross and needs to be cleaned way more often ) at their establishment and I heard someone trying to open the door with a key. I shouted out that its occupied but he didnt hear me and I had the misfortune of having a fully grown man walk in on me while I was using the bathroom. Unfortunately I could not get up as I was indisposed and had this man walk in on me. He didnt even apologize ; just simply said he couldnt hear me. Ladies please watch out for this guy as hes almost 300 pounds, white male, with a beard thats at least 65 in height, and looks like officer Piscatella from Orange is the new black ( if youve ever seen this show). Im guessing he lives in the area and most likely , this was an accident but we cant know for sure. It completely scared and startled me so bad that Im still upset about it when I look back cause it was a threatening situation. It is a complete stranger after all and you never know what could happen or even what the intention is;we live in a messed up world and I dont like to take chances. Although I am not blaming the owner for another persons actions and although she did treat me to a baked good, I have to say I am very disappointed in this establishment all together. Firstly, as a woman, why am I not entitled to the same safety and dignity as other people? The owner has not made gender specific bathrooms and simply runs them with a key ( that anyone can get their hands on). Im not sure how this happened as I dont work there but the fact that they can open from the outside is ridiculous and can make for a frightful situation and encounter. When I told her to maybe make a male and female washroom, she said that its too much. I just love how my rights and safety dont count for anything. If she likes, she can also make a gender neutral washroom but as women our safety and dignity needs to be respected and taken seriously. I hope it doesnt happen to anyone and she has fixed this or at least made it more clear for customers. Needless to say I wont be stepping foot in there again.
Coffee was cold and cake was old so that s a 1/5 Cleanliness: 1/5 . The place was dirty from the floor and tables to then staff working and serving area Service: no one told me to F off so 2.5/5
Large selection and the daily Obama cookie are hilarious.
This is the iced latte that costed $7
Good coffee and good pastries. Also a nice little vibe in an alley way. My goto when I am in the market and looking to sit down for a coffee.
Really nice coffee shop with sweet staff. Busy and hard to get a table on weekends but turnaround is quick!
Visited during Winterlude this year. Staff were friendly and Moccacino was AAZING!!! Highly recommend.
You have to try the panini eggplant, egg & guyere sandwich! At 8am its a different kind of heaven!
Charming coffee shop in the Byward Market. There are not many coffee shops in the BW.
One of my favourite cafés I the Byward Market. Great selection of pastries
Nice hidden spot, great coffee and snacks
It is a cozy place with good smell of sweets. My cappuccino was 6 out of 10. It was weird that they locked the washroom and u have to get the keys to use them!
Love the coffee shop! especially the double chocolate cookie. They have delicious food menu as well which I recommend to try. Ostara, Hunter, and Zoey are the best barista! They are very nice and always smile all the time. Excellent customer service
Went to this coffee shop for the first time today. The mocha and Nanaimo bar were great!
I love chocolate chip cookies, and they had a great one. Oh, and the coffee wasnt bad either
Exceptional!
I m regular customer here and enjoyed my experience each time. The only reason that i leave the 4 star review is that, the cakes I ordered were too old and hard.
Cute coffee shop, lots of seating, good options. Good location, cute alley way. Had the lavender matcha, was good but not the best 4/5.
Cappucino was not impressed at all. Tasted like just nespresso machine made. I visited here cause I was told it is famous cafe. But I don t think come again. Terrace was nice though.
Very good indoors/outdoors seating. Good coffee, and Espresso Vegan brownie is our personal favorite !
Great coffee, great food!
Delicious cookies!
Best deserts in the market. This place is a hidden gem. Amazing Lemon and Date squares.
The coffee cake. Wow.
Great coffee and reasonably priced!
Excellent spot. Indoor and outdoor seating. Outdoor is shaded which was nice. This was the bike ride recovery spot, iced coffee and a bread pudding ( lots of other choices as well). Service great seating area nice and clean.
Good coffee ans service
Super delicious coffee, had a tasty berry and bran muffin too! Staff were really nice, the place had a friendly and inclusive feeling to it. Would definitely recommend. My favourite Ottawa coffee.
Really good spot for a coffee and a pastry or treat. The patio is shaded with trees and a calm, quiet place to read a book and enjoy your coffee.
Location is nice coffee and food very average
Perhaps my favourite in the city. Love the coffee, savoury food options, service, and vibe of the inside and outside (especially outside!).
Great location and the coffee and pastries were very nice. Theres a tea selection too and lactose/veggie milks. It is very popular so service is a bit rushed. When we were there, staff couldnt explain what some of the desserts were. Tables werent clean and if you need the bathroom you have to ask for the key or know that the key is usually on the wall somewhere.
Friendly service, great coffee and baking and a fun attitude!!
great location. it used to be really great. recently food, desserts average or below. our scones were dry and did not seem to be fresh at all. although that is what we were told. the presentation of the baked goods is not appealing . many of the items look a few days old even the coffee was not good . very disappointed. they can do a lot better.
Great drinks. Great selection of baked goods, but they were a bit stale, and seemed like they were thawed from the freezer. Food was okay, the options were basic. Nice outdoor seating during the warm months. Service was friendly and quick. Unfortunately the washrooms were gross, and the toilet paper was without a dispenser, so everyone had to touch the same roll of paper to use it...not very clean.
Very nice cafe. Good options for vegan/vegetarian people. They are kind enough to explain all the vegan options available. Extremely good location with tons of outdoor space to relax. Not so expensive.
Love the service here!
So I just happened to stop by this place which I already love, and took a bite of the Rhubarb Square . No kidding, get over here pronto!!! Try this unbelievable explosion of goodness. It should almost be illegal . I m grateful, let s just put it that way
This is the best kept secret coffee shop in Ottawa!!!! Every baked good is fresh and so so good!!! So glad we wandered down this hidden corridor.
masterblast
Disappointed with my flat white. Friend got a cappuccino. Both of us thought the beans tasted sour.
Coffee is all right but the pastries and other treats are very good. Only concern is lots of fruit flies if you are dining inside the shop.
I love coming to this place and I ll keep coming, yes the coffee and sweets are overpriced, the staff is very friendly , the atmosphere is nice , but never going to buy the pastry here, everytime I go they are old , dry , and hard even in the morning ,but still will come back for the coffee.
I first discovered this cafe when it was on George St. Many, many years ago. I really liked the owners. Lovely little cafe in the city market. Im particularly fond of their wild berry squares and the coffee is very good. The service has always been friendly and helpful.
Great coffee, great area.
I really liked
Nice café with a very pleasant terrace.
The coffee is delicious, the servers are super friendly, but for me this place is 5 stars for another reason. I went to apply for a visa at the US embassy and they didnt allow me to enter with my backpack, I admit that I was desperate, because I didnt know what to do with my backpack. I came to the cafe and asked the attendant to keep my backpack until I got back. She, Michaela, simply saved my day. Of course, after that we enjoyed a coffee and one of the pâtisseries, which, by the way, are very tasty!!!
Great coffee! Great service! Gluten free cakes
Great service, great coffee, great patio. One of my fav coffees in Ottawa.
The location of this café is amazing The coffee was really good and even better their pastries!
Tucked away - relaxing shaded courtyard patio and delicious drinks and treats!
Fantastic outdoor patio, great sandwiches
Ive always loved the atmosphere here! The desserts are top notch. The coffee isnt bad either!
Really underwhelming cortado and drip coffee. Barista was really accommodating when someone took my order accidentally. Washrooms are kinda dirty. I think downtown Ottawa ain t really that cozy and neither is this place. Parking: Ain t none
I went in to pick up a snack after shopping. I was impressed that (1) the coffee shop was open in the evenings on a weekday and (2) the staff were super friendly which is hard to come by especially in the market. I would go back to sit down and enjoy their patio.
Expresso et cappuccino excellents. Breakfast panini was fresh hot and tasty. Very friendly service. First visit after over 10 years: you have not changed your quality. Merci! Food : 5/5 |
Staff here are amazing
Perfect coffee and great service
Nice coffee shop
Iced Matcha was average, bathrooms not clean
They serve a great americano, some delicious baked goods, and have perhaps the best patio in the city.
Lovely bustling coffee place with fantastic drinks and friendly staff. They are always accommodating and kind. The atmosphere is wonderful with a nice amount of outdoor seating for summer days!
There was a dead fly on my cookie, as you can see in the picture. When I showed it to them they first didn t accept it and after they saw, they were careless and didn t even say sorry. Their work environment is not clean, there was coffee grounds on my lemonade but fortunately they accepted it and changed it. But overall it s not a clean place. Also the staff seemed unhappy while taking orders.
Grate early morning coffee after a grate city center run Try their cream cheese brownies
Very good latte. Fresh and tasty cheesecake. Nice atmosphere
Amazing treats great service and coffee
Didnt like the coffee but they do have good tea and it is lovely to sit outside and chat or people watch. Great snacks too.
Nice little tucked away quite place, giving it a European vibe with the older Ottawa buildings nestled in near the byward market. Staff is very welcoming and varied coffee selection, both for vegans and non vegans alike. Food selection is limited but what they do have is always an awsome treat...
Nice seating area in the courtyard, excellent coffee and bakery.
Good coffee, cool music
To have a drink and rest after walking
Loved the coffee food and people Peace and love
Extremely rude manager. I have never experienced such rudeness. This man should not be working anywhere where people are involved. All because I asked for a little less milk than usual. Awful
I had the most appalling experience I ve ever experienced in any coffee shop or restaurant. The manager was so incredibly rude and called us annoying for asking for a little less milk in our latte. He then proceeded to threaten us. If I could give this experience a zero star I would. If I was the owner of planet coffee I would definitely get rid of this manager - a man who will very quickly scare all your customers away with his abusive behaviour.
Great little spot in a courtyard to have a nice cup of coffee and relax.
Perfect little alley cafe
Always amazing!
Great coffee and desserts
Worst cappuccino I ve had in my life oh my god
Pleasant atmosphere at this market area coffee shop, with good outdoor seating area. The coffee, pannini, soup and cookie were all good. The patio tables are a little tippy!
This is my go-to coffee shop. In summers the patio is fantastic. They make everything in house and there are a ton of options. The coffee is great and the staff are friendly. Its locally owned and they have a diverse and inclusive atmosphere. I highly recommend it. The lunch sandwiches are great and reasonably priced. The interior decor is a little dated but really I had to work hard to find an issue with the spot. They are open at 7:30 am and are consistent in their operations.
A small little cafe, for those who want to break from the mould of Timmys or Starbucks. Similar in price to Starbucks, but without all the fancy complex options you can add to the coffee. More simple and to the point.
Excellent coffee and great location.
Fantastic cafe with home baked cakes, freshly made sandwiches and well made ethically sourced coffee. all the cakes looked great, but the nanaimo bar was my favourite. There is plenty of seating with a nice outdoor area. Best place for coffee in Byward.
Came here for a quick panini and coffee before we checked out of our hotel close by. Breakfast panini was so good! Hit the spot. We also shared some coffee cake which was so well done. Delicious! Cappuccino was really good, and I had the chai latte, also really good! Can tell they work hard here and it shows !
Amazing staff, great coffee and best lemon squares around!
Coffee was the best ever!
Always great to stop in. Great summer patio on walking path away from cars right in the downtown tourist restaurant/bar/tourist area. They even take debit cards now! Sip your coffee and people watch. Get there early on weekdays and you might see some MPs stop in for their takeaway morning caffeine hit since its walking distance to the office.
Nice boutique coffee shop with tasty treats and beautiful outdoor sitting area.
Lots of chairs outside. Nice atmosphere. They even think to care for water for dogs. Nice thought. ATM inside.
Love their Plainut bar
I used to go to this coffee very often during this summer, unfortunately today I went to the coffee there was a decent amount of people, ordered my mochaccino like I usually do, but this time it was really terrible, felt like it was literally water/ milk and barely coffee not even any cacao, it tasted so bad. Very disappointed don t think I ll go back
Still a great cut for a great price.
Make a great macciato.
The coffees are OK but the prices are a little too high, considering the quality which seemed very ordinary to me. The establishment is quiet, well appointed and set back from the noisy activity of the ByWard Market. This is undoubtedly its best advantage. Located in an interior courtyard in the area, the surrounding places inspire relaxation. We meet a lot of regulars there, obviously. No service in French, at least during my visit, even though the area is very popular with tourists and located near Gatineau. Damage.
Funny time was in downtown Ottawa
Management isnt keen on creating a warm and welcoming atmosphere. They like to target tables during rush hour and make people sit with others they do not know. It is completely uncalled for and unnecessary -- they must be considerate of peoples special and personal boundaries. I did not know that I would worry about being comfortable in a place that should be easy to relax in without being unnecessarily disturbed. Unfortunately, after being a place I enjoyed going to regularly I will not be going to Planet Coffee anymore. This is definitely an experience I will continue to share with my peers so they do not face the same issue I have. Now on the hunt for a new warm and welcoming cafe! #DoBetter
I ordered a regular cappuccino and my girlfriend asked for an almond latte (that cost $7 +$1 tip which was more than the price on the menu) specifying that there could not be any contact between real milk and her latte because she has a severe allergy to it. When we received our orders, I asked the barista which one had real milk in it, and they pointed to the wrong one. My girlfriend tasted her latte and felt a reaction to the milk, so I went and asked the barista again if they were sure about which was which. They started out by repeating that mine had real milk in it, but then we asked a third time and they said they were pretty sure. We left and about an hour after I had to call 911 because my girlfriend had a severe allergic reaction, she couldn t move because of stomach pain, she had difficulty breathing, etc. The paramedics gave her an epi and Benadryl and took her to the hospital where we spent 6 hours. Also, the tables weren t clean, the drinks are overpriced, the coffee was ok, you can t stay longer than an hour and the baristas were dry and didn t seem to care much about the customers. At least they were playing Phoebe Bridgers.
Great cozy spot tucked away in the market. Had an oat milk latte with a shot of peppermint and it was perfect! Banana bread is nice as well. Employees are friendly and the seating is ample. Definitely check it out!
One of my favourite coffee shops in the city. Rlly great hours too!!! Sandwiches are delicious and I m always finding a new favourite treat when I go.
