This place is a must try! The staff is super friendly! We got the meal for 4 and I’ll tell you it would be impossible to leave hungry! We underestimated the amount of delicious food that we got and had lots of yummy leftovers! There are many menu options to fit everyone’s taste!
A cozy family restaurant specializing in authentic Chinese cuisine. With a diverse menu featuring all the classic favorites, there's something to satisfy every palate. From flavorful stir-fries to savory noodles, each dish is prepared with care and precision. Whether you're craving traditional flavors or seeking something new, this restaurant offers a delightful culinary experience for all.
Deep-Fried Football is my favourite! Who can refuse the sticky, savoury fried dim sum with leek and meat inside? Love it!
What a hidden gem in Ottawa! The owner was super nice. The portion was super large so we ended up packing another two meals home 😋 We tried the fish maw soup - an authentic Chinese soup that has some jelly texture stuff in there. I really like it! I also tried their special rice that comes in a clay pot called “煲仔饭”, the classic one is the one with the sausage. There are rice crusts on the pot which are super crispy. Overall very pleasant experience!
The takeout through UberEats dim sum is pretty okay. Dining in tasted good. Did not leave much of an impression, but the food tasted good. I like the shrimp and eggplants, and shrimp hargow. The custard bun is also very standard but delicious. I would recommend getting any of the shrimp items and add the custard buns in for dessert :)
Go for the food - not the decor or atmosphere (it's a humble environment but great place for dim sum). Foods are expertly prepared and served piping hot to table. We had sticky rice in lotus leaf, fried turnip patties, rice noodles roll with BBQ pork, spareribs in black bean sauce and pork veggie dumplings for dim sum dishes. Also ordered a Cantonese combo plate as well. They do everything well so arrive hungry and definitely over-order because you'll enjoy the leftovers later!! Warm, sincere server was genuinely attentive and caring! I love this little, unassuming and delightful restaurant.
Authentic and tasty Cantonese cuisine! It’s super affordable, too. What a great place. The food arrived very quickly and was served by a nice lady. The menu is very vast so it’s easy to get lost in it. If you don’t know what to order, you should try the beef dumplings and the noodle soup with chicken.
Dim-sums were okay considering their prices. Overall prices are low, while the portion of meat in dim-sum is small. It’s fair. Chicken Feet, Steam Rice Noodle With Shrimp, and Shrimp Har Gow were delicious. Pork & Veg. Dumpling were okay. Steamed Pork Bun was so so. It didn’t have any juice and the wrap was dry. I guess these were previously frozen. Shrimp & B.B.Q.Pork Fried Rice was okay. The place is old, but it was clean. P.S. For the pictures of dimsum, I ate some.. One serving is more than what’s seen in the pictures.
All the food is delicious.. Parking: Have some places for parking behind the restaurant. Food : 5/5 |
Always a good place to have authentic traditional Cantonese food. It is not fancy, mind you.
Authentic flavours that are out of this world best dim sum ever
Food was so flavorful
DO NOT COME TO THIS PLACE. The food was awful and the customer service was terrible. We ordered noodles and their combo meals for take out. The noodles was bland and the spare ribs were dry and rubbery. Their chicken balls has more batter and there was only one small piece of chicken. The customer service was just as bad! When the food was ready, they tell you its ready by clapping and yelling like youre a dog.
Too salty, taste like too much soy sauce. And when we complain about it. He said its our taste buds. Ive been eating in different kinds of restaurants and your food is salty.
Good Cantonese food whenyour in Ottawa. Located in Chinatown priced right with good food.
Very friendly staff, very typical Chinese food. Always good!
This restaurant is really outrageous. UE ordered a bowl of porridge for 16 yuan and you gave me a bowl that is less than the size of my palm? ? ? Is it still soup? My suggestion is that you might as well just come to my house and rob me.
Delicious, affordable and friendly. Definitely not going there for the ambience. Will be returning!
Authentic. Reminds me of my favorite dim sum places in 1990 s Hong Kong.
Food
I parked for 5 minutes to do something and when I was leaving I got Threatened
such horrible people!
Great Dimsum, good quality food.
Yimin Dim Sum House Friend and I wanted to try this place, hard to find since its combined with another restaurant all together. We sit down and the place looks ok, alittle rough but I heard the dim sum is all made locally by hand, the orders start to arrive and it is really good, I would say the shrimp su mi was the best I have ever had. After maybe 30 dimsum pieces the bill came to around 110$ Not very cheap, found it to be pretty expensive actually. Overall still worth trying! 4/5
Not too good
Good dim sum options!
Always come here with my family and it never disappoints! Big portions and big flavour!! The eggplant and shrimp paste hot plate is always a hit and so are the stir fried noodles! The staff is always so kind and give off great vibes <33 Parking: 4-5 spots behind restaurant
There was a 45 mins wait at our usual dim sum spot, so we decided to try Yimin - it is excellent! The dim sum was very fresh, all served very hot and freshly prepared. It is now my go to dim sum
One of my favorite dimsum restaurants in Ottawa! Great service, great food and the best Hargow! Love the kindness of this little family!
Excellent Dim Sum. Limited choice on the menu but you can order dishes that are not on the menu.
Amazing food! Everything was delicious and high quality.
I had a great time with my sister here. They have excellent food and the tea was superb.
Really nice Vietnamese restaurant with a student feel to it - down to earth vibe - good dim sum and fried rice. Would go back - also, open later than most restaurants on a week night in Ottawa.
very good dim sum..... fresh and better then dim sum mandarin in st Laurent Parking: Parking behind restaurant
My first time ordering from this restaurant. Based on reviews I had expected more. The food seemed to have lots of MSG, Uber Eats delivered it cold, no chopsticks or cutlery were provided. No packets of Soya sauce or hot sauce were provided with our $100 order. Very disappointing. I won t order from this restaurant again.
Food is good.
Ordered the duck and chicken. I was very worried on what kind of portion size I would receive but to my delight, I received a large and delicious portion of both. Will definitely be coming back, delicious
Really kind and caring owner. Great food, delicious eggplant shrimp, buns and mapo tofu!!
It is very nice I def enjoy it
The taste is okay, the shrimps and eggplant are very delicious, the Cantonese stir-fry ingredients are very rich, and the taste is not too salty. The chicken feet taste a little too salty. The ingredients for fried taro wedges are very practical. A small shop in the city center. The service provided by the landlady is cordial and friendly.
We visited Ottawa in March and very surprisingly found the food quality to be exceptional. Freshly made and tasty. The deep fried footballs and taro balls were the best weve ever had (even compared to dim sum in the Toronto area!).
Best dim sum in Ottawa. Love.
The food is very good (like the texture HongKong Style, meaning not too soft and not too hard). Compare with most Chinese restaurants, this place is the best, and if you dont know the dishes, just ask the waitress, she would gladly help you out. Anyway, Im very happy with the Food, and the Service.
Good authentic Cantonese food.
Real authentic Cantonese food.
Hidden gem. Would definitely recommend. Kid-friendliness: Loved the chicken fried rice and lemon chicken
The fried beef river is good.
Quint little restaurant with delicious handmade dimsum.
Yimin dim sum is generous in portion and really delicious! The price is worth it! ! I sincerely recommend it, it s not a Chinese meal that s meant to be a scam!
Good food. I liked the shrimp shiu mai.
First time, service was good. Calm place to eat. Not for fancy activities, but good spot to eat in calm. They have specials, can have delivery with third company (Uber eats, dash, etc). I took 102 on menu, total 15.54$. Vegetarian options: Many vegetarian options Wheelchair accessibility: No stairs at all
Tofu is rotten!
The food is decently priced and so tasty! There is a decent amount of choices for vegetarians. Dissapointed only by the fact that i discovered this place on my last day in Ottawa.
My friends and I love to chomp and chow down. We picked this place for dinner and I m glad we did. The portions are massive and the food delicious. I ordered a combo with egg roll, chicken fried rice, general Tao chicken, and the ribs (which I did just give to my friends because my genes did not grant me the power to digest pork). I was very grateful that I didn t have to buy my ginger ale separately as it was included in the comblo. A great place to dine
Visiter here in Ottawa. Foods look good.
best dim sum restaurant in Canada.
Delicious!
Great place, a gem in downtown Ottawa.
Its probably good to dine in, right? But don t order takeout...it s understandable that the milk tea is spread all over and the claypot rice and crispy rice are cooked, but it s not suitable for this pair.
The service attitude is so bad!
Terrible service.. No tips for you unfortunately
I do not recommend this place. The service is the worst. The woman who works there is really unfriendly and hostile.
Very rude lady working there. Never seen a server so rude. The prices seem low but they mostly put cheap ingredients to fill up the portion. Not worth it though. I used to order from here quite often. But since she was yelling at me once, I had never returned again
When I placed an order at Rice Ball, I got more and bigger portions than I expected. I just feel that the fried rice is a bit too wet and soft, especially when packed with water vapor.
Delicious !!! Huge Portions for the Price and good service, Nice lady! Totally worth it!!
delicious dim sum! Filled the craving we had for dim sum, cant wait for dine in.
Used to be better! Now thick dough wrappers with little filling!!
Wanted to try a new Asian place and I completely regret it. First of all they didnt follow my order instructions so when I got there I had to wait another 10 minutes. Next, the beef and broccoli was ALL BROCCOLI, probably a good 15 to 20 thin slices of beef in the entire plate. The dumplings I got tasted off, the shrimp and lobster sauce had small shrimps in it. Honestly try Yang Sheng Chinese on Somerset and Bronson they never disappoint me with their food or prices
Am so very happy I found their new location!! The food is tasty, fresh & comforting.. I love getting food from here to cheer up or to celebrate, and its so reasonably priced that its easy to celebrate just about everything. ;) Dried fried yee mein is our go-to anytime we need some lucky noodles.
If I can I will give no stars for this restaurant. The restaurant is highly suspected of feeding customers the leftovers of other customers food, the bowl of rice I was order is like two bowls of leftovers poured into one bowl. It was so disgusting that there was even a piece of sausage that looked like it had been half-bitten. Very bad experience. Watch out this restaurant for your own health.
Wasnt as good as Id remembered unfortunately. Didnt eat one of the dishes as the beef tasted soured.
The perfect hole in the wall for awesome dim sum! The people were so friendly, and the food was fresh and tasty! I would give it 6 stars if I could!
0 if I could. Called 1/2 before closing and they refused to fry frozen egg rolls. Not impressed.
Addicted to their mixed fried rice and Szechuan beef, tastes amazing !
Huge portions and so many vegetarian options!!
Food is always made to order, small and cozy family run business. VERY filling food and always super hot and tasty.
Great little gem. Wide variety of authentic dim sum.
Food was okay, staff were not very friendly. Food was not worth the price, the ambiance was absolutely atrocious. Would not go back
My first visit today with a friend. Small family run restaurant. Had their dim sum. Nothing spectacular about the food. Shrimp dishes were sparse with the shrimp. We were seated near the entrance and could feel the cold air to being very uncomfortable.
Delicious , good lady!
Good food and very good price!
Great dim sum on the end of Somerset. Tasty dumplings and very accommodating with allergies. Recommend the shrimp, pork & cilantro dumplings. We ate in, but it seemed like they were busiest for take out.
Had it delivered, came hot and just as good as being there in person. Authentic and flavourful. Great dim sum.
We had Dim Sum take out today for lunch. Excellent all around!
To be clear, I ordered delivery from this place while visiting ottawa. Being chinese and eating a lot of dim sum, I base this review on the best Ive had. The selection is nice however I found the quality is mediocure. The food wasnt bad but it doesnt really get me excited. The value is on par with other dim sum places.
Great dim sum, would go back again
Awesome
Best dim sum around. Chinese family at the kitchen. Order for takeout as good as in a restaurant.
I ordered shrimp shumai, pork shumai, and a couple more dimsums... I enjoyed it when I ate it, but about 4 hours after eating it, I complained about what was wrong. This is all I ate. When eating pork shumai, I thought it smelled a bit, but maybe that was the problem. So I ate half of it and threw it away. I wonder if they are just using bad ingredients because of the coronavirus.
It s super unpalatable. I don t know why there is such a morning tea shop. The food they make is not half as delicious as the ones in T&T.
Amazing dim sum dishes and we always get the beef and Chinese broccoli.
I love the dim sum; my favourites are deep fried football and steam rice noodles with deep fried sticks! I think you need to go in person for a good texture experience with the deep fried squid tentacles, but the flavour was good. I also really enjoyed the salt fish and chicken fried rice.
Love their dim sum! Even in takeout, very delicious!
Over priced with misaligned price to quantity ratios. Food tastes a ok, not the best dimsum I have had, not even above average. Its palatable. The business isnt screaming - come back :)
Good food
Great food, great customer service
Food was good, service was good, but it could have been cleaner.
A decent variety of dim sum items. Quality is fine, if not exceptional. Prices are kinda steep, though Ottawa seems to be like this. This is not a big restaurant, so seating is rather limited. Street parking available, and free on weekends. Service was fine. Nothing spectacular about this restaurant, nor is there anything really negative. Not sure I am in a big hurry to return on account of the prices.
Amazing dim sum the food is amazing, small and quaint restaurant, felt like dinning with family, great service!
This is not a place for Cantonese dim sum.
Worlds just can t describe how much I love the food here. EVERYTHING on the menu is simply amazing! And not to mention the service and the owner are just tooo good!
Very friendly and delicious food
Excellent food, very friendly service, reasonably suited for families with young children. Everything we ordered was tasty, soup portion was very generous. Will eat there again!
Great dim spot, price is not bad compared to other dim sum places in Chinatown. Best sesame balls I ve had in awhile. Great environment, service was okay and friendly. We did visit in the middle of the day so it was not very busy. Parking is limited at the side of the building however you can park on the street.
Wonderful experience. Nice, small place. For the price theres really not much to complain about! Steamed custard bun is a must try.
Small. Authentic. Awesome.
Very good food, everything we tried was tasty, really not disappointed. The only thing I would improve is the wonton broth but the rest was perfect.
The dim sum we had was absolutely awful. The squid and ginger we ordered was full of water, no ginger and there was no taste to it. The food was very bland, lack of taste and texture, the serving size was very small.
Great place for dim sum, but its best to come early since it gets busy quickly.
Extremely slow service. Servers rather grumpy....took a long time to get food..place is small but was not full. Went there for dimsum and was a menu order...prefer the places that have carts going around for you to pick items. Was somewhat dirty and would not go there again.
Delicious foods and great service!
My boyfriend and I really enjoyed visiting this Dim Sum House, since the venue was very small and intimate and the food was reasonably priced. We ordered the steamed pork buns, shrimp dumplings, chicken feet in black bean sauce, lotus leaf sticky rice, among tons of other choices and our bill was lower than what we expected! The service was fast and efficient, and the staff were all very nice. They paced our order out, so that we always had enough to eat. Also, they served green tea on the house and kept the pots coming!
Good
Good food, friendly staff and very fair price!! Wait time was a bit long but it was rush hour so all good!!
Great dim sum. No option is bad.
Weve ordered from here several times and we finally stopped in. The food is even better in person. My faves are the shrimp and cilantro dumplings.
I am more than disappointed at this restaurant and I am Cantonese and I know my food well. Ottawas dimsum style and variety are like the ones basically 30 years ago in China, vintage style. I ordered turnip cakes and one of the pieces was cold and wet???? This is a very basic dish that can be found in any dimsum restaurant. The rice noodle rolls with beef inside ? Supposedly there are 3 of the rolls and and all of them should have beef. Surprisingly one of them was just the rice noodle roll. Cant even meet the standard of dimsum not to mention quality and taste. Your name is dimsum house and please live up to it! The waitress was playing Candy Crush!!! Wont recommend to anyone with proper taste buds and high bar for food.
Ordered once online so decided to try in person. Considering calling the city to have them inspect this place. The chef was coming in and out of the kitchen, with gloves on, wiping sweat, touching dirty plates, serving food and all while wearing the same gloves. Just watching the chefs actions inside the restaurant made me sick to my stomach. I couldnt believe what I was seeing. In and out, same gloves, serving drinks, cleaning up, touching the debit machine. Pretty sure the kitchen in the back would be 10x worse. I looked them up on the city site and couldnt find inspection history. Yikes. Unsanitary. Want to add that Cantonese speaking customers were served before us, even though we arrived 30 mins before them.
Great little place probably family run. I m from Montreal and the quality is on par or better than the ones here especially the har gow. The only slight negative is the service is a bit slower compared to Montreal, but everything is freshly made so you have to take that into consideration. Would definitely go back next time I m in town.
The space is cramped, and there are only a few tables, so I dont recommend coming with a large group. Other than that, Yimin is a no nonsense place to get legit dimsum.
Dim sum tasted fine. But It made me throw up hours later and exited my body in two uncomfortable formats...I had the thin rice noodle with pork, the steam bun and the dim sum with pork. Reason I went here was for the 4.2 stars and it was priced well. But that was all. Little did I know that I was going throw it ALL up! About 12 hours after my meal, I was sick and was in the bathroom for quite some time as my stomach did backflips. Thats the deal breaker I guess. Wont be back unfortunately.
This place is amazing! I dont see many people ordering their deep fried bananas, back in Singapore where I came from, this is called goreng pisang, where the bananas are caramelized with crispy platter on the outside and soft and sweet inside. Great food at a reasonable price
This is the only dim sum place I liked. Exactly the quality of good dim sum at Hong Kong
I ordered $70 worth of food from this place and I specifically asked for them to include forks, spoons and hot sauce with my order. When the order arrived I got no cutlery and no hot sauce. I could not eat my soup with my fingers so I had to take small sips of it. I also found a hair in my wonton soup This place just made a lot of money off me but they don t care to follow directions of a paying customer and they are disgusting. Save your money and go to McDonald s instead, I am sure you will get better service there.
It was great
Decent food. Really good deep fried tofu which used to be spiced well but last few times spices dont seem as good as before.
Very tasty
We go there for the Dim Sum prepared to order, otherwise quite ordinary.
Great authentic dishes. Fresh ingredients.
They only cooked for one table at a time, I waited 25 minutes with only 3 tables occupied. Food was good, including scallops is the seafood plate.
Food tasted alright but unfortunately got sick from it.
Best dim sum house in the town
Unclean and terribly slow service. The food was bland with almost no meat. Will never come back.
The shrimp chive heogau, fried shrimp eggplant, and fried noodles are really delicious. This is the most delicious restaurant Ive eaten in Ottawa. It wasnt too salty and it was very delicious =)
Most Authentic Chinese food in Ottawa. Slow service but the grandparent duo takes care in each dish they put out. L owài may be turned off by the decor and atmosphere, but man is the food good!
Its a place where you can eat as many as you like because its not too spicy. Its really delicious. The two of us went and ate for about 50 dollars.
Place was very small and unassuming!!! Food was excellent!!! Would go back again!!!
Great Service, Amazing Food! Was my first visit and I am already planning my next! Try the Turnip Cakes, Beef and Turnip, Fried Squid, Sticky Rice, Shrimp and Cilantro Dumplings extra chilli sauce!
Tasty
Highly recommend the pork shumai. Big portions for rice dishes!
My favorite sweet! Yes this s my favorite spot too for Dim Sum !!! All homemade no Frozen stuffs to reheat!!!
Its an okay place, even tho the service is really good! The food is alright but for example the fried tofu tastes like grease dripping with grease... but everything with shrimps we ordered was delicious!
Food was a bit bland for my taste
Their BBQ pork bun is the best in Ottawa.
The price is cheap but the quality is great The wonton noodles were good because the broth was refreshing, and the hagau mushroom shumai and changfun were also delicious. Two people ate and it came out to $27. I told you I would give you a tip, but you said you wouldnt accept it.
Great place for morning Dim Sum! The food is great and hot, the service is friendly. There are a few vegetarian options as well!
Great place for Chinese food.
Good Food
Authentic experience right out of China in the humble 90s
Very good dumplings! My bf is very picky when it comes to Asian food and he was so surprised with how good the food is at this quaint little resto! And very good service. Totally returning!
The restaurante is quite decorated and colorfull, the food was great and service was fast!
Very authentic dimsum, nice owners as well
Great food, great service, great selection and prices. A few items were served a little cold though, otherwise an easy 5 star.
Best prices in Chinatown. Fresh and authentic Cantonese food.
