Beavertails: the famously flat donuts! Deliciously addictive, whole-wheat Canadian pastries served piping hot with your choice of delectable toppings. Also serving ice cream and other iconic Canadian treats.
If you’re anywhere in Canada and see you a beaver tail, do yourself a favor and grab one. We got the cinnamon sugar one, twice. It’s quite similar to an American elephant ear, but better. We still talk about these to this day.
Had a Nutella banana beaver tail. Was nice and fresh. Staff was super pleasant and they went the extra mile and added a few more banana pieces. Very flavourful. Definitely recommend!! Don’t forget to follow me!!
It's like funnel cakes but better. With all kinds of fun and delicious toppings. Or the classic. Gotta have one any time I'm in the area.
We noticed this place as we were eating on the top floor of a restaurant across the road, PJ Peking duck and as big lover of this since I was a child on a different continent, we decided to splash ourselves in chocolate and banana: - excellent choice as you can never go wrong with it, unless you order their pack of 12 options and then you eat it in 3 days: they are not as great the 3rd day - helpful people despite the queue and hot day - very busy area packed with musicians and all kind of beggars, coming right in your face as if Covid happened 1 million years ago - and yes, you need lots of water afterwards as they are so sweet
We just bought two pastries from this place, a Bananarama and a Strawberry cheesecake. I have to give credit the food is real decent, however the “customer service” needs ALOT of improvement. I’m just asking for bare minimum of respect between people. While I was ordering the lady cut me off mid-sentence, then when I asked for a box so that I can take those pasteries home she ignored me. My friend asked her again, slightly louder this time for her to hear. She rolled her eyes on us. How disrespectful is that??? Edit: Hi, thanks for reaching out. I just sent an email to you regarding the incident. Please refer to the email I sent you.
We had the lemon fresh Beaver Tail and it was sooooo good! How fun to be a visitor at this first location of Beaver Tails. I loved seeing such a huge line up and everyone was loving this traditional taste of Canada! Yummmy! Trust me it's worth the wait. Cheers, Spicy Jan
My first time having tasting the Canada well renowned beaver tails at byward market. It was delicious and I still remember the taste. I had banana with chocolate hazelnut (not sure of the exact name) and my daughter and friends ate garlic with cheese one. The location is in between the market and nice to see people walking by. First time and best experience. Love it
A very nice small place to grab a snack. There were a lot of options to choose from and the staff were nice. I ordered the apple pie beaver tail and it tasted really good. The stretchy bread and warm apples were really good together. I will definitely come back for more. I recommend this place.
Very quick but its a gloomy day
I love this place. I love the pistache one Food
Pistachio beaver tail
A nice spot for a quick dessert, but the drink was definitely too sweet for my taste.
If you ever come across a BeaverTails stand, do yourself a favor and grab one. What is it? Essentially, it s a flat doughnut or fried dough shaped like a beaver s tail. We tried the classic (think delicious fried dough with sugar) and the brownie version. Both were light, fluffy, and absolutely hit the spot. It s served from a small stand, so you can grab your treat and keep exploring. Perfect for a sweet snack on the go!
MY FAVORITES. 10 DOLLARS FOR THE BITE OF YOUR LIFE. I LOVE THE BROWNIE ONES. BY FAR THE BEST THEY HAVE. I LOVE BEAVERTAILS.
Cant wait to visit again! Ive been to this place a lot of times and it sure never disappoints
Well, it is a must-see stop for tourists. It is nothing very different from a crushed and Coronado churro with ingredients very well served. By the way, I consider that it covers the caloric needs for the cold weather in the city and even more so if you accompany it with a good coffee or if you use it as a dessert after a delicious Ramen
Busy location.. bananarama is one of the best!
12/10 for the pistachio beavertail. Very convenient location to where I was staying (I was committed to eating one while I was visiting from out of town). The lady who served me was lovely as well!
Overpriced, but you get what you came for, the beaver tails are good
Always an awesome experience, although I wish they would clean up the byward market.
The beavertails are great snacks or desserts, they are big too so make sure that you will eat it. I would recommend the classic or the lemon one if its your first time, if youve had them before than try the avalanche. Only concern is that its outside Vegetarian options: I dont think there is any meat served at this store so you should be good Dietary restrictions: Definitely not gluten free Parking: No parking Kid-friendliness: The employees love to see kids getting beavertails Wheelchair accessibility: Its very accessible its kind of like a food truck
If you are a tourist, I think it would be a good idea to try the beavertail. I ate something orthodox, and it was freshly made and piping hot and very delicious. I heard it was too sweet, but it was just the right sweetness for me. There are also a lot of souvenir shops, so it was nice.
Yummy must try in ottawa
Must-try dessert in Ottawa (beaver tail)
Still so good! Try nutella with strawberry coulis! It s delicious! Watch out for the wasp! (No idea how that s spelled ) I know it s out of their control but there were a lot of them! Just a warning for those with allergies! Also there are plenty of tables around to sit on!
Incredible! Recommend the apple pie beaver tail.
Sweet spot. Good customer service.
I tried it on the recommendation that Obama ate it, but it was too sweet to eat.
Sugary sweet pastries. Comparable to a crimp.
Pleasant establishment...
Its really good
Its a spot where you can enjoy Canadas famous sweet beavertail! Fried dough topped with cinnamon sugar, chocolate, fruit, etc., its a delicious snack thats crispy on the outside and chewy on the inside. Its located in Byward Market, a tourist area, so its easy to stop by in between walks. A warm beavertail is perfect, especially during the cold months. In addition to the classic cinnamon sugar, we also have a variety of flavors, so find your favorite!
Omg yummmmmm me and the fiancé went for a nice walk across the bridge and decided to go for beaver tails omg was sooo worth the walk from gatineau
100g regular fried pasta with regular toppings for $7 I find it expensive $$$.
We were curious to try it, we loved it!
Small beaver tail, delicious
Great selection of options to put on your beaver tail.
Amazing!!!
Drunk, stoned, or sober nothing beats this deep fried favorite
Always very nice service and delicious Beaver tails! Worth trying... Or going back to... Enjoy ! Food
Iconic Canadian delight
Im pretty disappointed to see yet another of my favorite market haunts change for the worse. I dropped by the Beaver Tail Hut yesterday intending on stuffing my face with some sweet beaver tails when I was promptly told We dont accept cash ! Are you kidding guys? Cash is still a form of currency in our society, not accepting cash is simply not acceptable. For that reason, I wont be visiting your establishment any longer. 35 years of patronage done. This is a form of discrimination and I wont have it.
The Classic version and the Pistachio version are excellent, crispy and soft. I would have tried others but unfortunately we left!
It was on my bucket list and it didn t disappoint
It was nice, I really like it
A small shop where we inevitably find our happiness for good beaver tails. Classics and originals. The prices are fair, the service super fast and friendly. And what s more, it s good!
My first Beaver Tail ..a treat!
Nice and fresh and tasty Vegetarian options: Yes. Its vegetarian. Dietary restrictions: May contain allergens Parking: No parking. This is a street shop Kid-friendliness: Yes Wheelchair accessibility: Yes
For someone likes sweet, this is perfect.
Always a great treat on the market.
Not bad at all the welcome is very good! But too bad the prices are a little high. If they offered a scoop of ice cream (vanilla or chocolate) I think they would be priced more, this service would be a good complement to the different options offered.
Amazing and delicious
My daughter loves the oreo Beaver Tails so so so much. Highly recommend for the kids, super sweet treat! Food : 5/5
Excellent but a little expensive for flat churros
Excellent
Yummy, and super filling!
Great place Delicious.....my mistake confused it with the Ice cream truck behind. Food
Omg! Just had a Beavertail for the 1st time...I think Ive died and gone to heaven! Im going to go broke....I NEED these in my life and will be going every paycheque to have one! **Canada Day** busy as heck, but still got very fast, friendly service. This was my 4th time getting a beavertail here. Tried a diff one than before and was just as good as the other 3 Ive tried!
Quintessentially Canadian! As good as I remember.
I always enjoy getting a BeaverTail when visiting Ottawa.
The food was very good and the cashier was nice
Iconic Beavertails truck in the ByWard Market. Good food and service. There is no seating and waiting in the sun without shade can be tiring.
The pistachio one is delicious.
Beaver tail, a treat Very pleasant employee
Mmm....Beavertails
First time here and we were so excited and taking photos and they totally matched our energy! They laughed and joked and even moved their stuffed animals so we could take photos of their food! (:
Ottawas must-have pastry! Succulent, with several flavors, to be enjoyed immediately while sitting in the nearby deck chairs enjoying the nightlife of the street.
It is very famous in Canada. Classic beavertail looks like dry French toast (God forbid I compare). The price is exorbitant. The specialties with banana, chocolate... improve the quality-price ratio. The workers are attentive, disciplined, friendly and the atmosphere in the plaza is UNBEATABLE.
Always yummy
Close early!!!! Because its so delicious that you cant help yourself and not eat it somewhere at 22
A must stop when visiting Ottawa.
Even when the lines are really long, it never takes long to get an order, easy to grab and go
So good! And inexpensive!
Many variety of sweet yummy options A must if you are visiting the area Food
Beavertail could have been fried a little longer.
Yummy! Enough said.
Very friendly staff, fast service, and delicious food!
We went late so there lots of unwanted attention and it was a safety issue but their menus and food is amazing.. must try the pistachio flavor
Beaver tails are a staple in canada. Tourist or not, everyone needs to try a beaver tail. Delicious and great service.
Have to try a BeaverTail with cinnamon and lemon Kev Food
Best desert in Ottawa! However, needs some seating near the kiosk.
A must for tourists but poor value for money.
Delicious and wide selection of toppings
Was simple stop and when we wanted to take it to go they provided a box! Just as delicious as ever
Always a treat, but usually a lengthy line
First time trying a Beaver Tail. Pretty good!
BeaverTails famous pastry a hand-stretched dough, fried to golden perfection, and generously topped with an array of decadent toppings that cater to every craving. BeaverTails is a must-visit destination for anyone with a sweet tooth and a love for all things Canadian. If you are looking for a delicious treat to brighten your day, a visit to BeaverTails is sure to satisfy your cravings and leave you with sweet memories!
Trying the pastry from BeaverTails was one of the things from my to-do list in Ottawa. As I heard a lot of positive reviews from my friends, I wanted to try this for sure when I am in the town and Im happy that I tried. The fried pastry was crunchy on the outside and soft from inside. I ordered the BroWownie flavor as I am a brownie fan. The white chocolate made it sweeter in the end but I wouldn t mind because I am a person of sweet tooth. My husband and I shared and it was one of the delicious dessert I had in Ottawa. Its very easily accessible to the people strolling in the Byward market and it was served warm - thats my favorite part. The person working had a smile on his face and it felt very comfortable. I would visit this place if I visit Ottawa again.
So fresh, so amazing. Have now tried the classic and it was as good as the bananarama!
A small pastry joint with hard-working women who put a lot of love in what they are great at.. yes, they are serving the decadent pastries with over 10 different spread options, and they are all eggless except for one (brownie spread). We had a single pistachio pastry between both of us, and each bite of it was worth it. Nearly 12 inch long, thin, nicely crispy pastry (can connect to what we see as Fried Dough in States, yet better) with a generous layer of pistachio spread and nut crumbs.. we could not try other options, but they would surely be great.. Highly recommended. Good menu display with ingredients, allergens, and dietary restrictions... Good work!!
Debatable if it s worth the price, but it definitely tasted good. Give it a try, eat it while it s hot
Beaver tails seem like a must try when in Ottawa, its a deep fried sugary treat. Im not sure Ill try again, but Im glad I ate one.
Doesnt take cash, makes good traditional food
Try everything
Had heard so much about it! Worth the money. Nutella on the top of the bread :) Highly recommended Vegetarian options: Ask for vegan options
Was in Ottawa for a weekend and I tried a beaver tail was delicious. I strongly recommend you stop here
Always great!
Yummy beaver tails and a place to sit
A very tasty sweet mess. Incredibly high in calories but absolutely worth a stop. Even if the line is longer, just wait in line, it wont take long. Its just the ordering and pickup window. But its worth it...
No doubt that they are excellent along with the fun of eating them while in the market, but for locals the tourist premium price is high.
Very nice service. The food was ready very quickly and tasted good. I was even able to order a vegan version. Vegetarian options: There are many vegetarian and vegan versions. Wheelchair accessibility: Yes
A must eat if you re visiting Canada or live in Canada. I d argue that it s part of Canadian Heritage. They ve been part of my visits at the Byward Market for 30+ years. Mmmmmmmmm good! Kid-friendliness: Staff all smiles for kids!
Delicious beaver tails
Always loved Beavertails
TOURIST MUST DO: This is an awesome stop in the Byward Market and lovely food... fast food... just a squished flat doughnut (shaped like a beaver tail) and toppings added... but so good. My only issue... so popular there is always a lineup at the little shack... but that might add to why it tastes good.
It was late and we were in the mood for something sweet while out walking about. This was totally worth it and hit the spot! Got a classic and broWOWnie and both were delicious! Served hot and fresh with great customer service at 10pm! Will likely return tonight before leaving town.
Brilliant.
Not disappointed with this institution in Ottawa, fast service
Love the cheese shops, meat shops and the beaver tails.
Awesome beaver tails!
Delicious pastry with nuttela and bananas
The best dessert store in Ottawa
This is a must try when you visit Ottawa. It tastes better in the cold with some snow all around. Well be back again for Winterlude .
It was my first time and I loved every single bite of it.
The best and only!
Love this place when I visit Ottawa
These were amazing. We had been looking forward to these all week of our trip. The queue was long but moved quickly and was well worth the wait. Something you have to try when in Ottawa.
I bought a classic one for my daughter. It was the worst Beavertail store in Canada. Soggy, salty, and oilly. Go to another Beavertail store.
They are absolutely scrumptious. So Canadian!
Good
Sma one ciasto r cznie rozci gni te, aby przypomina y ogon bobra. :-) mniam :-)
Very fast service, I loved their beaver tails. Hot and well stocked. Very fair price. I recommend
First time trying the BeaverTails, liked it but for comparison I can compare it to a bread pakoda with lots and lots and lots of sugar and sweet toppings
Delicious fried cakes and desserts. One cake comes with 2 flavors. Ping Meng. It goes well with sugar-free coffee. No cash required.
It would be nice to have a store with tables to seat at. The beavertails are amazing! Not to be missed if visiting Ottawa.
New place, good food & reasonable prices!
My first time trying beavertails. We got the original flavor. It was surprisingly good I would recommend to share one with two people.
Great place for people who like this food. Get it, and have it right away, if you allow the food to get cold- its not worth it.
Amazing beavertails!
This is my favourite BeaverTail location in Canada. I have been going all my life, and my father used to frequent it too.
Just met TOD and he told me about Beavertails. He is such a gentle man and passionate about what he does. I can t wait to try it. Thanks Tod.
A beavertail is a must when you are in the market, whether you are a local or a tourist. Its always busy here but the service is quick and the beaver tails are delicious.
Super leckerer Snack.
Impeccable, fast service and very good beaver tails: fatty and sweet as we like them!
I can no longer support BeaverTails because you dont accept cash anymore. We should all boycott places that no longer accept a legal currency. Disgusting and shame on you BeaverTails.
Had a night full of disappointing service and food in byward and was turned around after getting the killaloe sunrise. I m never disappointed by it and the service was quick and well organized. I m happy that it closes late so it gives me time to end the night by enjoying it.
Food is great as usual. Price a little high. Pastry a lot smaller than it used to be. A double whammy.
$7.75 I went twice, once for lunch and dinner, and there was always a wait of about 5 to 10 minutes. However, it is made quickly. Its the right size and sweet. Nutella banana is a delicious flavor that everyone knows, and cream cheese is good as a meal replacement. Apple is very sweet. Since it is a takeout store, you have to take it with you and eat it somewhere, but since it tastes best when eaten right after it comes out, your hands get really dirty, so tissues are a must. Card payment possible
One of the most iconic locations of Beaver Tails. We tried the Classic, Bananarama and Brownie. All were tasty. Price was decent. This place is always crowded but thanks to the superfast service by the friendliest staffs one doesnt have to wait much!
We ordered a Bananarama. It is surprisingly good and every ingredients matched so well! Highly recommend to try if visit Byward Market
If you like sweets, this is the place for you!
Love this place just wish they would bring back cash
Delicious
To preface this review I should state that I generally avoid sugar and was only trying this as a cultural experience. But I found these overly sweet and lacking in flavour (as is often the way with overly sweet foods) and decidedly MESSY to eat - I had to eat it fast because it was falling apart AND dripping every where, go to the bathroom immediately after to clean up as best I could, then wipe down everything again once I got home. I ordered the maple one and the syrup even got on my shoes. As I say, MESSY. Dietary restrictions: No gluten free options
Hearty beavertail. Maybe a little expensive for a Nutella donut but we dont regret having tried it for the first time.
