Excellent service and great food.

Highly recommend dining here! Had such a lovely lunch today - really great service and a delicious soup and sandwich. Will definitely be going back for dinner and some wine.

Beckta offers delicious and beautifully presented entrees and desserts.

One of the coziest upscale restaurants Ive been in. The tasting menu was left blind and I shall keep it this way in my review so you can experience it the same way and its worth it. Wine pairing is a must with the tasting menu (imo) however does put you at a $200 per person price tag. Granted, you can get away with a appertizer + entrée + drink for around $80 CAD. The tasting menu is 5 dishes and WILL get you full, the portions are well managed and the main dish is very fitting. WARNING, if you pair it with wine, youll have just around 5 glasses worth in total (one for each dish), so do not drive. If you want to try a fine dining experience without entirely breaking your wallet, I believe this place can take you there.

Everything was beyond perfect. We got the tasting menu . Everything was spectacular. Especially the fish and the duck!!! The wine was incredible too.

Ive been to Beckta several times, and the flavor profiles seem to have really changed since last year. The food was a bit too rich this time, and very salty. Some details below: Biscuits: good as usual. Tuna crudo: great dish. Halloumi: the accompaniment was very strong, totally overpowering the halloumi (which was very mild) Salmon: there must have been a mistake with the preparation of the greens accompanying this dish, because I dont think any restaurant would intentionally serve something so salty. My partner and I both tried it, and left it on the plate. Duck: it was good, but the dish was a little flat since there was no acidity to contrast the duck and the otherwise mild vegetables like the beet and radishes. The sauce might have wanted to serve that role, but it was very mild. Cocktails were great. I hope some changes are made to the menu, because I was disappointed with my meal, especially after mentioning to my guest the great meals Id had here in the past.

SUMMARY: My partner and I went for the plant-based tasting menu at Beckta. There were some strong offerings that came with weird caveats. We had a good night but are unlikely to return, since the experience didnt seem to match the price point. Ill start with the positives. GREAT SERVICE: We were well-tended. There were a rotating cast of staff members, but everyone was professional and present (without being overbearing), and our main server was very charming and pleasant. DELICIOUS SMALL PLATES: The first three courses were tasty and inventive. I wont spoil it for anyone considering the plant based menu, but each dish felt well-considered and portioned. Now caveats. STEEP VALUE PROPOSITION: The plant-based tasting menu is the same price as the standard tasting menu, coming in at $135 per person before tax. Right off the bat, its a little high for what youre getting. Their standard cauliflower couscous is also the main course in the tasting menu, which also comes with three small plates, bread and a dessert course. Lets be real here: cauliflower costs a heck of a lot less than steak. It feels a little opportunistic that the veggie offering is the same cost when the input ingredients are on a very different level. I recognize that youre paying for the service, venue, reputation and atmosphere, but its hard to walk away from a $400 night out (after tax, tips and a couple drinks) and feel like it makes sense. To be clear - we certainly didnt need more food! But that price tag needs something elevated to justify it, and it just wasnt there. BOOKING CONFUSION: You have to schedule the plant based tasting menu 48 hours in advance (we communicated it twice) and it would have been reassuring to not be given the a la carte menu. The hostess seemed confused when we said we were doing the plant based tasting menu. It was awkward and not exactly reassuring. ODD ATMOSPHERE: The heritage home architecture for Beckta is part of its charm, but between the murky green carpet and orange patterned curtains, the decor felt dated. The room layout also resulted in a little awkwardness - the enclosed space made it very easy to hear everyone elses conversations when the room was less full or a table had a boisterous guest. I DIDNT COME HERE FOR NUTRITION, BUT... : Its weird that there was no protein offering? Tofu, seitan, tempeh, beans - theres a lot of options there. The closest youll get is a couple of mushrooms. BAFFLING DESSERT: This is the big one. Dessert was a scoop of chocolate ice cream with a series of increasingly strange apple-based garnishes... and sprigs of dill to top if off. It was oddly sweet and... gloopy? Honestly, its such a weird and unsuccessful dish that we walked away with raised eyebrows. All in all, mixed experience. Nice to have a plant based option for fine dining, but were not going to be recommending it. Vegetarian options: Theres a plant-based tasting menu that requires 48 hour notice. Some courses were great; others were unsuccessful.

The food and staff were excellent! We had the large room upstairs for a special event. It was extremely warm in the room and a little uncomfortable. It was 35 feels like 45 outside, and understandably it is an older building, but when it is this hot out, some fans would have been nice.

Simply exquisite! Not to mention the fact that our waitresses were able to pay attention to the little details that matter. The dessert was exceptional!

Absolutely delicious food that was a feast for the eyes as well as the palette. Service was friendly and accommodating. My only quibble was that the A/C was really cold - like too any restaurants. Would definitely go again for a special occasion.

Finally, tried Beckta after all these years. The food was amazing, but the service was off. We got the tasting menu, and the timing on some of the courses was really unusual. With the wine pairing and the long time between courses, it often left us with empty drinks on the table for long periods of time. No offer of anything in-between or explanation of the timing.

It was my anniversary. I emailed several top restaurants in the city. I had 5 criteria. I chose Beckta because of their quick and thorough response to my inquiry/criteria. I was not disappointed in my chose. We had a 5 course blind tasting omnivore menu (excluding dessert, of course) with wine pairing, and all gluten free, as requested. We had tuna, scallops, boar and duck. What a great selection by the Chef. The ambiance was great. Exactly what I was looking for with plush seats (old school). I look forward to returning.

Our company hosted a reception for 50+ people followed by a sit down dinner at Beckta. It was without a doubt a phenomenal success thanks to the wonderful staff, incredible food, and excellent wine & cocktails! Beckta s location is conveniently located in downtown Ottawa on Elgin, and is in a very distinguished historic building. Bottom line: we could not have picked a better spot to host our corporate reception, and our guests were thrilled. Thank you to Stephen, Sandy and the entire Beckta crew! I still don t understand what was all the excitement about! My friend made reservations for both of us and honestly the food wasn t all there, disappointing he said but service was spotless. I ordered duck raviolis dry, scarce and extremely salty, not even the garnish helped improve the dish. My friend s salmon was extremely overcooked and I don t know how he ate it. My friend had just arrived from Germany, here for business and he had lots of referrals about the place, he wanted to surprise me and both of us were really surprised in the wrong way.

Pleasant dining room, good service. Food was very average with fish not quite fresh enough and too much salt in the dishes. I was expecting better because of reputation and location.

Have been hearing about Beckta for years and finally went. It did not disappoint! Service was impeccable and friendly. The food was perfect. I had the duck magret which was cooked a perfect medium rare and melted in my mouth. The squash purée topped with roasted squash and hazelnuts on the side was a standout. Will be going back.

Unequalled and amazing food and wine pairing, as usual. **BUT** sadly ruined by sub par, disappointing and bland service. Bekta s cuisine and chef(s) deserve at a minimum enthusiastic service and the guy who was there tonight (Mar 5th 2004) ruined it. They deserve a reprimand and or some training Sad..

We had a great experience at this restaurant. I had the omnivore tasting menu and my fiancé had the vegan tasting menu. Tasting menu is blind and you may not get the same dishes as us We loved to food. We found the food to be very approachable, delicious and presented beautifully. I think that most people would enjoy the menu and have a great experience. There were some dishes on the vegan menu that really surprised in a good way. Everything on the omnivore menu was delicious and there were some exciting elements with dill and mushrooms on a couple dishes. Meat dishes were great. Overall I dont know if its the best tasting menu out there but I think anyone you brought here would be very happy. I saw in a few reviews before we got there that people thought the portions were tiny, I would say they are average for a nicer restarant. Its not a cheesecake factory Atmosphere was very intimate and comfortable. Its essentially a house and you eat in the different rooms. Some of the rooms are smaller and only have room for 4 tables. We were celebrating a milestone for my brother so we enjoyed the vibe. I find ottawa better than a lot of larger cities for vegan options in general, but it definitely improved the experience for the whole table to participate in the tasting menu. We had 2 Veg and 2 omni Service for the most part was pretty good. We had some servers who appeared to be training serving us. Some spoke quietly and were hard to hear but it wasnt a big deal at all. What impressed me about them was that you could tell they were nervous and trying hard to make sure we had a good experience. I have had better service at similar restaurants but I would say this was a good excuse. There was a senior person on the team leading everything so Im being a little picky here. Wine pairings I thought were fairly well done. There was a focus on using ontario wineries (niagara mostly) which Im not usually a huge fan of. However I had no complaints on the selections, I appreciated the late harvest wine at the end as I dont like very sweet ice wine. Went for my birthday yesterday and LOVED our experience !! We were taken care of by lovely Natalie(I am sorry if I am getting ur name wrong ) Also, a 10 star for the wine suggestion <3 Every plate we ordered left our table fully cleared, I almost danced in joy eating my main !! It was a great surprise by my husband and Beckta dining made it even more special for me.. Thank you again

Service was excellent from everyone and Kim, our server was fabulous. Came to our table at the right times and was very helpful with the wine mene because we wanted something different. The dining room (at least the one we were in) is 100% BORING. There is nothing of interest at all. The biscuits were tasty and warm and enjoyable. The rest if the food (Quail and Cod) was overpowered by garlic and way too much salt. There was too much going on on our plates. Rich and salty. Would not recommend...sadly.

First time being here, wasn t that impressed. The dining room was beautiful. I heard that other waitresses talk about the food and the menu, but ours did not. For drink, we ordered a scotch and something blue cocktail, were not impressive at all. We ordered duck confit and steak.The duck really smelled like duck. Both dishes were so salty. I couldn t believe beet which is naturally sweet, can be this much salty! The food presentation was very good though. Also the Royal trumpet mushrooms on the steak side were amazing. I would probably say the mushrooms were the best part of our dinner.

Amazing food and excellent service. Each of the 5 courses for the omnivore tasting menu were delicious and flavourful. Our server Leah was very friendly and even brought us home baked cookies to take home! Will be going back for tasting menu again.

I am disappointed on their food and service, it was our first time returning for tasting menu dinner after the pandemic. The overall quality is no longer meeting fine dining standard in my opinion, considered of the food taste, delicacy of presentation and pricing, perhaps only the place met. The server missed one of the pair wines, it was served with reminder and after the dish. That was never happened in my fine dining experiences.

We had our wedding anniversary at Beckta, and we were NOT DISAPPOINTED!! The restaurant is amazing, absolutely blown away by the food. My chef self was incredibly impressed, I applaud the staff and the chefs. This is a very beautiful place!! must try!

This is by far the best restaurant in Ottawa. There are many reasons why I think this, but for me it mainly comes down to the service, which is impeccable, and the food, which is always top notch. We came here twice in 2023 - once for our 25th anniversary and then again for New Year s Eve. I ve never had a bad bite here. If you are looking for a special occasion restaurant, Beckta is your place. If you re looking for incredible service, Beckta is your place. Also take advantage of validated parking by parking in the building behind Beckta, on Gloucester St. we discovered this by accident when the city hall parking had a line up to get in.

I had high hopes for our New Year s Eve dinner at Beckta but unfortunately, it was a major letdown. The starters, including soup, salad, and beef tartare, were just average. The tartare was decent, but it came with very oily potato chips that overpowered the taste of the beef. My wife s striploin steak also fell short, tasting almost rancid and as if it had been sitting out for too long, frankly unacceptable for a restaurant of this purported caliber. The dessert was okay but nothing special, though the service and atmosphere was good. After spending three hours and $250, we left feeling underwhelmed and dissatisfied.

Very nice atmosphere, private. Feels like a home with different rooms and just a few tables in each room. We were upstairs near a fireplace and a window with only 2 other tables. Ribs were good but didnt come with potatoes. Came with a different type of mushrooms that I personally didnt like. Wine was excellent. Parking: We used the old city hall underground parking. But when we finished dinner (around 23h), the door we came out from was locked. We had to find the only door still open which is in the middle of a field in front of city hall (have to go down a stairway to get back to the parking lot and your car). Plan an extra 10-15 minutes if you park your car there. Theres some walking to do to get to the restaurant. (All the parkings on the street were taken and they dont have a parking lot)

My friend and I had excellent gastronomic experience yesterday, accompanied by expertly selected French wine, impeccable service and inviting ambiance. Now Im seriously tempted to come back soon :) Ive visited Beckta restaurant a few times over the years. The food was solid (but not special), portions on the small size and overall experience was not memorable. I didnt have desire to write a review... until yesterdays visit. We had couple of appetizers (fresh and very tasty) followed by duck confit for the main course. The duck leg was made to perfection with a very crispy skin and soft fall off the bone meat; but what really awaken my taste buds is a combination of brown rice on the bed of carrot puree accompanied by roasted heirloom carrots with berries. It was totally unexpected and complimented duck meat surprisingly well. I thought this dish can strongly compete (and perhaps win) with Montreals famous Bonaparte restaurant duck confit :)

Food was amazing, and the service was good but were kinda dissapointed that our waiter was explaining the dishes to other tables, but I had to ask our waiter to explain our dishes, I believe it was because he thought we were young and that we wouldnt care, but we went for the full experience. The setting was nice not too many people per room, and the music wasnt too loud. Overall great experience.

Very pleasant experience. I was greeted as I entered and given a table of my choice. Food was good, service good, portions good. No complaints. Vegetarian options: Not many vegetarian options but the menu is a selection of different things and veg is one of those.

Quiet, classy wine bar at the back of the restaurant. Excellent wine list options for bottles and by the glass too. The food options here are also plentiful for a bar list. Service was also attentive and not pushy. Will be back.

The man who served our table had a very soothing and soft demeanor, much tact and gave the right level of attention at the right time. We enjoyed the service. My only negative comment is about the Beckta employee who called one day ahead of our reservation. After asking if we were still coming, and I responded yes, he responded in exclamation: Awesome! When he asked if we had any food restrictions and I said no, he responded: Awesome and again Awesome for the last question. I was quite shocked by the use of this type of language that I could hardly associate with the reputation of Beckta, a restaurant I never visited before. It gave me a bad impression of the restaurant. Luckily the dinner was very nice, the food was good and the server a real charm. Vegetarian options: We took the vegetarian option and found it very tasteful and enjoyed the meal

Four of us had dinner here on NYE. We sat upstairs in a lovely room where the tables were spread out which made the evening very comfortable. We all had the tasting menu which was FABULOUS. All four of us (which is not typical) loved every dish. Each bite was flavorful and delicious. The wine pairing was also very nice. The servers were very attentive and informative.

Definitely a good meal and good drink in an elegant and friendly setting but frankly, the price is not represented in the experience. I understand that this is fa popular fine dining establishment and while I accept the price of the cocktails and wine, the meal prices are just too high, even for these times. I had a perfectly great meal, but I have had better meals for less. The scale below tops out at $100+, in reality we spent $200+ per person. SO, if money is no object then by all means, go and you will not be disappointed in the meal. However, I rank based on experience value for money and I just didnt feel like I had such an experience that made me feel like I would repeat it the next time I had $400+ to spend on a meal for two. I can find, for less, equally fine dining experiences in town.

The server we had was very attentive. Mains were brought out by other staff. The grilled octopus was some of the best Ive had. I appreciated that the steak tartare did not have an egg in the middle as this would have put me off. I understand some enjoy the egg but not I! We enjoyed all of the food! I would definitely return.

Id been hoping to visit Beckta for a few years - the building is so beautiful and the atmosphere is low key and romantic. Service was , friendly people throughout. The food was unfortunately disappointing! I was so sad - bland salad, and thin salty ribeye cooked medium. Too bad !

The maitake, biscuits, and beef tartare were quite delicious and well presented and the service was very attentive. However, the duck magret my partner got was not very good - off taste, inconsistently cooked, and a very small portion for $65.

Hands down one of my favorite Ottawa restaurants. Both their Curated by Beckta and in restaurant food is some of the best food Ive ever eaten. Their wait staff are incredibly friendly. Would highly recommend.

Fine dining yes pork main meal was really really good and priced accordingly, the charcuteries was ok, service was good but on a early Monday near empty room a perfumed couple was place right next to us and that felt a bit strange, the music was good but some songs where a bit loud - all and all i would go back

Excellent dining experience - delicious appetizers and entrees! Good wine selection by the glass but much more extensive wine list by the bottle. Vegetarian options: One of the very best vegetarian entrees I have ever had. It was based on maitake mushroom.

Took my wife for her birthday. Absolutely amazing experience. The service was top notch from coat check to our waiter. The food was incredible. This is our #1. Highly recommended.

Excellent food! The menu is small but everything is absolutely delicious. Its pricey but worth it. Great place for special occasions. Vegetarian options: I noticed a beet steak main course and vegetarian options for appetizers on the menu, but we didnt try them. Dietary restrictions: They called us to confirm our reservation and also specifically asked if anyone had allergies or dietary restrictions. Very professional.

First time visiting Beckta to start the weekend. The hostess was cold and dismissive in person although I made the reservation for myself and a friend from out of town on phone. Hospitality, small chat and eye contact all directed at my guest but I was never once acknowledged. Poor manners and hence, zero stars to her. The ambiance upstairs is warm and comfy, food and desserts were decent, cocktails were very good, and the wait staff were wonderful and helpful. 10 stars to them and if I re-visit, it would be for their stellar service. Parking: Great spacious parking garage downstairs.

Wait staff and atmosphere were 5/5 excellent, however we expected more from the food. The presentations were all awesome. The scallops were overcooked/rubbery, however the sauce was tasty. We wish that the horseradish would have been available on the side for the beef tartare as it overpowered the dish and it was hard to taste anything else. Additionally, another option other than salty chips as a vessel for the tartare would have been preferred as well. We ordered a medium sirloin that we had to send back as it came out rare. They were apologetic and the second rendition came out perfect. It was very yummy. The lamb shank looked impressive, however, the flavours fell flat for us and it was a bit of a drag to finish. The dessert really shined. I forget what it was called, but absolutely amazing. Thank you!

Great place for any occasion. Food has a great taste, music let you have great conversation with the family and our journey supported in this adventure (Natalie) was great and kind by adding a candy to celebrate my wife s birthday. I can not wait for next encounter in October.

We loved our meal and experience. We sat in the wine bar and enjoyed the ambiance and slightly more relaxed atmosphere. We ordered a Charcuterie Board and Salad to share as an appetizer, and for our mains we ordered the Lamb shank and Beet steak. If one negative could be found, the mains were slightly too salty. We rarely use much salt in our own food, so this may have just been personal preference. It did not stop of us from eating and enjoying the meal at all. Our server was lovely and attentive. We appreciated how easy it was to have food items modified for individual preference and intolerances. They are happy to provide certain items on the side (ie. the serrano ham and pecorino cheese on the salad) or leave out certain ingredients for it to be made vegetarian or lactose free. They have an interesting wine list! The Oregon Pinot Noir by the glass was unique and interesting; not something you find standard at most restaurants. The Blanc de Beckta sparkling is bone dry and delicious. Vegetarian options: There were several vegetarians appetizers, small plates and a very delicious beet steak main. The meal was complex and filling. Dietary restrictions: They are willing to modify items for dietary restrictions to the best of their ability and advise you of any items that one should avoid.

We have eaten here several times and at the previous location on Nepean, too. The current location is superb (although people willingly squeezed into the former location for a reason), the food and service are as great as expected for a chef and team with as great a reputation as theyve earned in Ottawa.

Super dinner in this typical house used as a wine and dining room, the first more informal and youthful. The menu does not offer many courses, but all are particular and unusual compared to Canadian cuisine. The roasted green peppers seasoned with sesame and dried fruit are very good, the roasted quail is tasty and the lamb sausage accompanied by lentils and mashed potatoes (not potatoes) is delicious. Very friendly staff, prices a little higher than average.

The dinning room atmosphere was nice and the food was delicious too. Vegetarian options: There is beet steak that tastes very good although I thought it beef steak when I ordered it.

A wonderful experience from start to finish. The staff were all wonderful, attentive, and friendly. We took the tasting menu and all five dishes were perfect! The staff explained each dish and answered any questions we may have. Every bite was delectable! Would definitely recommend and looking forward to my next visit!

Dinner here 2 days was absolutely fantastic. We ordered cold smoked shrimp, grilled octopus, smoke cylindra beet steak and biscuits. All items were fresh, with great taste and excellent presentation. The beet steak was divine! Biscuits were the best I have ever had in a restaurant. We will definitely return to Beckta. Thanks Justin for great service!

We have tried 5-course tasting menu. It is worthwhile if this is the first time you visit. I don t mean that you should not redo when visiting for the second time. There are just so many decent choices from the regular menu. Staff super helpful and kind. I will give a 6 stars out of 5 for the service. Will definitely come back again.

This place is an AMAZING restaurant where the service is as good as the food, and the food is absolutely world class where a focus is put on method and doing things right, every time and absolute adherence to standards. This is carried onto the front of house and attention to detail out into their both quality and level of service with them frequently going above and beyond for not just VIP regulars but average neighborhood people for whom its a Special Occasion place and first timers alike. This place sets the standard for what quality service in all aspects of being a restaurateur entails and the fact there are 2 other restaurants within their Family Group of restaurants where similar standards are upheld but marketed to different demographics is even more impressive. Cudos and all the respect to Mr. Beckta, his Chefs, his Sommeliers/Servers and his legion of talented cooks who work tirelessly (yet properly compensated AND a focus on work life balance and a healthy lifestyle) to make a physical, tangible, tastable, immersive and comfortable manifestation of Mr. Becktas guiding philosophy, morals and work ethic to serve to guest and as a method and standard from which to best serve guests. The sucess and world class quality of the restaurants is a direct reflection of the belief that staff are a type of acquired family to be valued, respected and invested in through education, benefits/retirement plans, staff growth experiences/events and has made him a trendsetter and role model for the industry which sadly has a grim reputation of shady restaurant owners, underpaid/overworked staff (sometimes criminally), a staff pool largely on the fringes of society with addictions/legal issues/insecure or no housing, unsafe/illegal kitchens/work areas and other well known issues and his restaurant guided by his philosophy and morals has helped to start changes in both specific other restaurants and as a whole in the industry as an example of what can be the working standard in a very successful restaurant so it should be able to work in other places with less staff and less moving parts. Visit this place! Itll change your idea of what a meal is.

Service was really great, ambiance was nice. Food and wine was not the finest for the price .. we tried the tasting menu and there wasnt anything that was super stand out. Maybe the foie gras but thats not made in house .. better value at other places in Ottawa and for fine dining may as well stick to Montreal.

As we have previously experienced in the past, our meal at Bekta was a wonderful delight. The meal was wonderful, with generous, flavourful portions, beautifully presented. Each time that I return to Bekta, I am again reminded why it is my favourite restaurant in Ottawa.

Beckta is always a favourite place to go. Went tonight with a group of 8. The service was excellent, the wine recommendations were spot-on, and the food was amazing! One of the best places to go for a business meal, to celebrate an event, or just with a group of friends who appreciate the finer things.

My partner is vegan, but I am not. We did the tasting menu (with wine) and they brought us each appropriate dishes that were fabulous. Expensive, but worth it for a very rare treat.

My parents and I recently dined at Beckta to celebrate my graduation from law school it was the perfect place to celebrate, with such kind staff and absolutely delicious food, I am already dreaming of when we will be able to visit again. As shown in the picture, our waiter brought us complimentary sparkling wine to mark the occasion which was a very thoughtful touch. I thoroughly recommend booking a dinner at Beckta!

I had a fantastic experience with excellent service at Beckta! The building itself adds to the overall experience, as they have done a great job modernizing while maintaining a unique ambience that blends the old and the new. The Buttermilk Biscuits were absolutely out of this world! Both the Roasted Laurentian Chicken and Beverly Creek Striploin were delicious too.

Fantastic business dinner hosting out of town colleagues. Great food and wine, including desserts, were delivered with impeccable service.

So good I came back twice during my vacation week in Ottawa. Recommend the octopus, quail, chocolate tart and St Honoré. Ambiance is peaceful and private. Service is top notch.

We had a wonderful dinner having choosen blindly the ommivore mode dinner with the pairing wines. We enjoyed our 5 courses dinner served with the appropriate wines. The meal included tuna, salmon, pork belly, magret de canard and maple desert. All the meats were cooked delicately and accompanied with various vegies. The portion in the plates were just enough considering the 5 courses we were to eat. At the end of the dinner, we realized that we had spent 3 1/2 hours at the table! The room was quiet and the lightning not overpowering. Laura was very attentive throughout the evening and spent time explaining in details each meal. In summary this superb dinner fulfilled our expectations and certainly Beckta can be considered as one of the top Restaurant in Ottawa.

Amazing food,atmosphere and service!

I surprised my wife to go to Beckta for our 25th wedding anniversary. We very rarely go to expensive restaurant but the occasion deserved an upgrade in our choice. My wife and I were very please with our choice. We chose the blind 5 course meal to let the Chef decide for us and we were not disappointed. The dishes were well presented with a lot of flavors . one of the dish was a pork belly and my wife who doe not eat the fat on any meat ate it this time was was impressed with the flavor that adds to the eat. We are French and appreciate real fine cuisine and this restaurant will stay on our list of good options in the future. The portions were appropriate, the pace of service was very good (not rushed as in many restaurants), the servers explained every dish in details and described the wine selected to go with the dish. They even started with a glass of Champagne from my home town in France (Champagne Collet from Aÿ). As it was our 25th anniversary, the server offered us a glass of Port at the end of our meal, very nice gesture. I definitely recommend this place if you enjoy some fine cuisine. Had an amazing dinner here. Service, food and wine are all on point!

I ordered endive salad which was excellent. Kim our server was excellent but not intrusive. She started off by asking if we were going to the concert and said she should have our meal completed in plenty of time. I have not given full marks for atmosphere because although the management have made excellent use of the period features of the building, the lighting is not good. This deficit was very apparent as I was with a sight impaired friend. We shall use this restaurant whenever we go to a concert from now on.

Absolutely terrific! Was visiting from out of town, a member of the party had allergies. We did the tasting menu and they were able to easily accommodate the allergies. The food was amazing. Wine pairings on point. Communication prior to the reservation was exceptional. Highly recommend

We ve been a few times over the years to Bektah. This time, my wife and I wanted to go for our gender reveal. I made plans with Sergio, the manager, to bring the envelope a week in advance and they made us a a cake with coloured icing in the middle. The food is always top notch, the service is perfect, and the desert was beautifully made and the best tasting desert we ve had in a long time. We also were able to order an extra desert to go so we could relive the experience with our families. Thank you again to Bektah and Sergio for the amazing night!

great food but wished more seasonal ingredients were showcased especially in the plant-based menu. service was very professional, perhaps a little too formal for the wine bar setting. ambiance was good considering it was a Monday night in Ottawa. Vegetarian options: very refreshing to see a high end restaurant offering a plant based menu. some of the dishes really blew my head off. curious to find out how often that menu changes. would love to come back eventually to try some new dishes. keep that almond cream, cucumber and black garlic dish. one of the best things i have ever eaten. so fresh, creamy, tasty, perfectly balanced with amazing textures. would have been nice to have a dessert featuring local fruits especially in July. but hats off regardless i had a great experience.

Heard good things about Beckta. Our party decided to go with the tasting menu along with the wine pairing. Everything was fantastic and all the flavours went very well with each other. Definitely going back to try the menu out, especially the soft shell crab!

Sergio and Bill provided impeccable service ! They were friendly, polite, calm, informative and extremely descriptive ! The food was cooked well, the flavour combinations were mind blowing, the presentation was beautiful! The quality was great, well worth the cost !! Over all, incredible experience !!! The food was VERY good and a nice variety (had the 5 course meal with wine parings). No one left hungry. It was A 3 hr experience and we never felt rushed. The service was incredible and as the restaurant is segmented, it felt really private for dining out.

The chef s tasting menu was like dinner theater. Each course was a wonderful and delicious surprise.

Beckta, in a word: disappointing. I came here with my wife on August 7th for our first wedding anniversary. One might think that a restaurant with so many awards on its walls would be a good choice, and one would be wrong. Our order: We ordered community biscuits, an apple and endive salad, soft shell crab, the steak and the quail. The atmosphere: This restaurant is very warm, uncomfortably warm, and the water they served is room temperature and not refilled often given the number of times the waiter came to look at us. I felt uncomfortable. Everything else was otherwise unremarkable except for the bathroom, it was gross. The food: We began our meal with the community biscuits, one of them was completely raw in the center the other was just barely edible which I and my pregnant wife shared while we waited for the waiter to return. Upon being informed that the biscuit was raw he said he would replace it. After a long wait, and growing appetites, the waiter returned with two more biscuits which were both raw. At this point we were informed by the waiter that the kitchen follows a recipe and have a specific formula for baking the biscuits, an apology would have been sufficient instead of an excuse. Again he took them away, this time returning a little more quickly with the salad which my wife had ordered. So I am now sitting there while my starving, pregnant, wife eats and feels guilty because I have nothing. My wife described the salad as good enough but was missing something to make it really good. After another awkward amount of time after the salad was finished and we waited for our main course. I received my steak, it was well cooked but the seasoning was lacking. It was served on a bed of green beans which I would describe as the kind you get from a grocery store that are precut in a frozen bag. This was surrounded by 3 large blobs of pimento cheese with some sparse chimichurri drizzled on top which made for an unavoidable and unfortunate pairing for my meat and beans. There were no green tomatoes on my plate as described in the menu. The corn on the cob was the star of the dish, delicious although awkward to eat in a fine dining setting. At this point we were served our third round of community biscuits which, finally, were fully cooked. It looked as though the kitchen staff had already torn them open to see if they were fully cooked. I might recommend that they test it with a wooden toothpick next time. My wife received her soft shell crab, the crab itself was bland and the sauce was very spicy. This did not agree with her palate. My wife was not offered a menu to decide on a new dish when she informed the waiter that she regretted her selection. Upon the suggestion of the waiter she changed her dish to the quail. Which my wife described as adequate. One thing however, struck us both when it came to the presentation of the quail. It is served with fried wild rice, which my wife was not aware of. For those of you that dont know, fried wild rice looks very similar to dried mealworms. I found the menu online to reassure her that she was not in fact being served insects, although she felt the presentation was unappetizing. Upon finishing our food we promptly left as I did not want to be disappointed by their desert offerings as well. Overall impressions: This was a very poor show, I really expected more and I am dissatisfied with the experience. I took my wife here for our first wedding anniversary and I regret it. The food was mediocre, the timing on the arrival of dishes was awkward, its too hot in the dining room (the water didnt even have ice). I included that it was our first wedding anniversary in our reservation and the only person to say anything was our hostess when she checked us in. I dont expect fanfare or anything but I think as a point of hospitality it would be good to congratulate your guests or thank them for choosing your place of business for such an important occasion. I would not recommend this restaurant to anyone.

Quinn served us quickly in the bar. The endive apple salad and quail were delish, and the bottle of Chianti she recommended was spot in.

I took my wife here to celebrate her birthday. It was our first time at Beckta, and it will not be our last. From the time we were seated until I payed our bill, we were treated like valued customers. The experience was wonderful. We opted for the blind tasting menu which was very fine. My wife also got the wine pairing option. We both have a few food allergies which the staff made sure avoid in our dishes. There was not one that we did not like. We will definitely return. Everything was perfect: food, presentation and service!

I recently enjoyed an excellent 5-course tasting menu here. I had not been to its current location, remembering it was the Friday roast beef house. Ambience is relaxing, background jazz, and friendly staff. Server was very knowledgeable of the wines the house carried, and recommended an excellent Sauvignon Blanc from Niagara Falls to accompany my meal. Courses included salmon crudo in ponzu sauce, grilled Humboldt squid on fried green tomato, pork belly and beets, grilled bison and mushroom, and a delightful dessert creation of lemon ice cream with a milk pudding ball. Each course was well prepared, and the whole sequence was well thought out and creative. I enjoyed every bite of the dishes.

Great atmosphere friendly service simple menu although with my allergies to shellfish my options were very limited for the appetizers. My main course was steelhead trout which is healthy but the taste is a bit gamey compared to salmon. The serving was good but wouldnt order again. Same for my appetizer which was basically a leafy type of lettuce with lots of granola. Big portion and tastey but again would not reorder. My wife ordered a lime slice cake for $15. We waited 20 minutes and was told the chef did not pick up the ticket. So we had this very thin piece given no charge as a take out. We were married here years ago and thought the food was fantastic. Mt wife enjoyed her meal this time but I was not overblown.

I recently had dinner at this Dinin in Ottawa that offered a fancy menu that changes with the seasons. The food was really good. The restaurant had a nice atmosphere, and the staff were friendly and helpful. It was a great place to have a special meal. If youre in Ottawa and want to try delicious Canadian food thats made with fresh ingredients, I recommend checking out this restaurant.

We had an exceptional experience at Becktas wine bar. The food was delicious, the wines paired very nicely with the food, and the service was outstanding.

Food was great like always. Service was very bad today and slow in the Wine bar. We got there for 5pm and didnt leave till 8:15pm. Food came out VERY slow and no waiter came by to apologize..no one offered anything as an apology. One table had to leave and pay but they were given their food to take home FOR FREE. We paid $510 for our meal and not a single drink/app was comped as an apology which felt unfair..

It was a very disappointing experience. It took 3 hours to get their 5 course blind tasting menu and some meals were cold. We weren t able to experience the full idea of the wine & food tasting due to the food being so late. It was a very discouraging experience and ended our evening very badly.

Fine but better places at the same price point.

Our first time here, but not our last. Overall, we were impressed with the location, the food, and service although we felt the service could have been a bit more attentive. There was a delay in the kitchen, but our server was apologetic. The menu is small which we happen to love in a restaurant, but the choices were wide ranging. The portion sizes were ideal and all our dishes were delicious! We will definitely recommend this restaurant to friends and family!

Ive recently had the pleasure of endulging in Becktas tasting menu. The dishes had plenty of sauce which seemed to be the theme they were aiming for. The flavors balanced nicely with the food mostly being done perfectly. The pasta was slightly under done in the second course and there was no house bread which was slightly disappointing. Their duck dish however was one of the best dishes Ive ever had. The combination of the two sauces made for an evolving flavour profile as you eat more and the sauces mix together. The servers were also knowledgeable on the dishes, as they were able to help me understand how some were cooked. It was the salmon dish in particular that was intriguing as it was soft enough to cut with a spoon. Overall very good menu with good food and excellent service.

We did the blind tasting menu and let me say the food was fantastic. Service and atmosphere were also top notch. The one area of improvement for the price you are paying is definitely portion sizing for this blind 5 course menu. My wife and I both left feeling like there could have been a little more on the plates. Food was great but portions were not.

Wheelchair accessibility: No Food

My mother, with limited mobility, and I met family in town to dine here. Parking was busy but we found a space around the corner. There were about 5-7 stairs that my mother was able to navigate but slowly, hence 4 instead of 5 stars. The food was a 5+star experience with crusty Brussel sprouts appetizer, endive salad, chèvre carciofo (pasta) dish and a divine black sesame seed and chocolate brownie dessert. Plated elegantly with layers of flavour I highly recommend Beckta for a special night out with its ever changing and elevated menu. Thank you for a lovely evening!

We had the absolute honour of celebrating our wedding here and we cannot be any happier. From the beginning of our planning, Candace was so amazing and responsive. She was such a big help, so kind and professional. On the day of, everything was perfect and the service was OUTSTANDING! Sergio was truly amazing! He was accommodating, funny and made our experience very memorable. The food was tremendous! There was one or two small hiccups when it came to the food but it was promptly fixed and we could not be happier. Overall, this is an amazing place if youre looking to have an event or just have a special evening. Thank you to everyone at Beckta for making our day memorable.

Amazing experience on all fronts but extremely pricey.

Went with a friend to Beckta on a Tuesday evening for the first time. We both had the 5-course vegan meal and a bottle of white wine. Everything from the service, to the presentation, to the flavors and the ambience was perfect. Highly recommend it for special occasions, you wont be disappointed. Update: We come back to Beckta every year for our first date anniversary :) Love the vegan blind tasting menu!!! Our waiter Bill is always the best

This place rates six stars. A perfect evening of exquisite food and wine selections. The knowledge and spirit of our server Kim enhanced the experience.

Truly there are no words. We had our wedding ceremony, reception and dinner at Beckta. We were so incredibly supported throughout the planning process, we were treated like royalty and knowing we could completely trust this wonderful establishment, we were truly excited for the big day. And yet, they still went above and beyond any expectation we had with absolutely every detail. The building is exceptionally beautiful and the staff are the most incredible people you will ever come across in the hospitality industry. The quality of food is something everyone should experience at least once in their lives but for us it is something that was a staple on our wedding day. Each of our guests continuously raving about each course, and of course the drinks too! The effort Beckta put into creating our day can not be understated. They are who made it what it was, a day we will forever be proud of and lucky to have remain as our personal wedding story. We just wish we could live our wedding day over and over again. Beautiful atmosphere and amazing food and service.

It was absolutely amazing! I took my wife and friends here to celebrate my wife s birthday. Service was awesome from the moment we walked in the door. We had our own private little room. My wife is celiac and they made slight alterations in order to accommodate her. Four of us had the tasting menu. It was wonderful, one of the 5 items was sweetbreads, none of us had ever had them before. Our waitress described how they would be cooked and told us her own experience, we trusted her, we were not disappointed. In fact all of us said that it was our favourite dish. The waitress was super knowledgeable and provide us a tour of the wines. We could not be more pleased with our evening. My guests thanked me for making this a choice and inviting them along. Honestly I can t say enough.

Booked a table in the wine bar part of the restaurant for the vibes and I was not disappointed. Beautiful decor and helpful staff made the overall experience spotless, but the food was the true hero. We had the tasting menu and each dish was delightfully put together with interesting combinations of flavors and textures. There was one dish I was not the biggest fan of (the pasta) but everyone s tastes are different! My husband liked it. I highly recommend this restaurant.

Our server (Laura) was amazing- the best! Food was not really very good. Ive had much better food elsewhere for a quarter of the cost. The wine pairing was good. Overall Disappointing!

I had the 5-course, plant based tasting menu. Some of the courses were excellent, but one or two, while still extremely good, lacked a little panache - that amazing procession of pleasantly surprising flavours. Service was outstanding. Vegetarian options: The plant based tasting menu is, of course, vegetarian. Dietary restrictions: One member of our party has food allergies, and Beckta made sure she was safely accommodated.

The food here was superb! The beef tartare and duck were both exquisite and the perfect portion sizes too. I would definitely go back, as the flavours were very unique and rich!

Worse meal ever. Can t believe they are above a one star. Complained after getting a 1200.00 bill. Got a 300.00 gift card to calm the storm. And just found out gift certificate was expired after 30 days ! Terrible spot Brutal !

A very nice and quiet place ! We did the 5 courses tasting menu and every plate was innovative and tasty. A very good evening !! It is pricey but normal for this type of restaurant.

Everything was exceptional. Service from every person I interacted with was 10/10. Food was amazing and they were accommodating to all the guest. Our main waiter was always there right before our drinks were about to run out too. Can t say enough good things about our experience.

Place was beautiful and the food was great. Wished the tartare came with fancier crackers instead of chips. Wished the waitress brought our food faster, especially since we mentioned when we arrived that we had to leave by a certain time for a show. The service took forever and because of that we had to take our last plate that never arrived in a to-go box but couldn t even eat it because we were going to a concert. Disappointing

Wonderful! We had a fabulous experience dining at Beckta. The cozy small room with only a few tables along with the exceptional service were a highlight. The food was fantastic and I appreciated the extent of choices of wine by the glass as well as non-alcoholic specialty drink options. Vegetarian options: There were certainly many creative vegetarian options on the menu.

FIrst time experiance at Bektas. From Kim the bartender, who was adorable and very friendly, to the wait staff who were on top of everything. The food was amazingly mouth-watering & a tast bud experience. Very impressed with everything Bekta had to offer. Even recieved a call pre-arrival as to whether we had food specifications. Definitely will be returning in the future.

This is our favorite place in Ottawa. Great service and the wine selection is first class. Not cheap but definitely worth it if you are looking for a great dinner experience in the capital of Canada.
