Intimate, traditional French restaurant serving classic fare with a large raw bar & outdoor dining.
We went for breakfast and it was a total disappointment! We had the brioche french toast which was ok (with cheap blueberry sauce) and their breakfast came with home fries, eggs, toast and sausage. I opted for the vegan sausages and it was horrible. I’d ask their chef to try these sausages and see if they’re actually edible. The toasts were dry and home fries were really oily. We eat out a lot and we could tell if the food is good or not. It tasted like cheap dinner food.
A special spot. Great oysters. Classic Parisian bistro interior. I just wish this place would play nice jazz music & enhance the ambiance with some candlelight. They were blasting top 40 under bright lights, when I went there for an intimate date.
Decent food. Above average pricing, for example salad is similar price to pasta. Most of all, I liked how the servers were very attentive to our needs.
Beautifully furnished restaurant, excellent, cheerful service and truly amazing food, full of authentic flavours from an awesome chef who creates excellent cuisine from scratch. No shortcuts are taken here. Would return in a heartbeat! Bouillabaisse was fantastic and loaded with seafood. Broth was excellent. Beef tips were the best I have had on real mashed potatoes and a rich, perfectly seasoned gravy. More like a meal than an appetizer! Last gold star goes to the Raspberry white chocolate bread pudding with creme anglaise and fresh fruit. Crispy on the top and soft on the inside. Perfect balance of flavours again. Great selection of wines by the glass as well. Bravo!
Poutine tastes ok. Not worth $$. Duck confit is a bit over cooked. The dressing is very good though. The sandwich is better than it looks. Simple recipe but delicious.
A remarkable location and sound service. The food is good quality however it is not above ordinary. For such a steep price, I'd anticipate more of the chef's signature touch in the dish.
Dined at this French brasserie in Ottawa and was thoroughly impressed. The delightful atmosphere, complemented by warm lighting contributed to a charming ambiance. The service was excellent, with attentive staff. I opted for the calamari to start and steak sandwich as my main, and both dishes exceeded my expectations. I’ll definitely be back to try more of what they offer.
Booked here for Father’s Day brunch, we always pass by and love the atmosphere with the outdoor seating and fairy lights.. it was a gloomy day so lights were on :) our server was a 10! Seriously super kind and helpful , my kids smiled every time she came to the table because of her kindness. We we’re happy they had kids meals and even the regular dishes they were so flexible to add things or omit others! Over all we had a very pleasant brunch here and would love to come back for another meal where they have live entertainment outdoor!
The best venue for a reception in Ottawa by far. Attentive, fast staff, great drinks, excellent food, and a very simple process to book and setup.
Spinach salad can pick up a notch more
My friend and I thoroughly enjoyed an early dinner here last night before going to the NAC for a concert. The food was delicious. The service was outstanding. A big thank you to the entire team for such an enjoyable experience.
Dine in ,nice place and good atmosphere, delicious muscles and fries and coquilles st Jacques , beer and tea. Good prices, good place in Ottawa to stroll after near Parliament.
The food and the service were good. The atmosphere was far from cozy and intimate. The dining room was very noisy. The decor is in serious need of some refreshing.
It was a very slow night, maybe because on a Monday night, service was good and attentive, food was good although it felt heavy the next day! I will definitely go back, nice atmosphere, very French brasserie!
Came around 5pm. Place was 30% full. Was seated way back corner for some reason. First half service was bad. Plates and utensils left for us to serve ourselves. Fish and chips were good. Steak frites was tasteless. Oysters and shrimp cocktails were good and fresh. Second half new server was more attentive. Hit and miss place. Been here a few times over the years. Still recommend if you are around that area.
My food was o.k. and my dining partner loved hers but the place could REALLY use a good cleaning! The table base was really gungy, and were the servers stations and the bathrooms. The trim in the bathroom stalls were coated with grunge and dust, as were the soap dispencers. Glad I didnt go to the bathroom till after I ate or I would have been grossed out.
Would recommend the frisée salad Lyonnaise and the braised lamb ragu
Had the poutine which was really close to taste of the one from McDonalds. Curds were not fresh at all, they melted with the sauce, and sauce was too liquid... at 17$ by the way. What a complete ripoff.
The food was so good and
I normally love coming to this place, but oysters at $2 tonight were a joke, i have never seen tinier ones. young female servers had bad attitude. I get that this place is popular for getting drunk with public servants, but it should care about all patrons.
The service was perfect, however the scallops were overcooked and charging for the bread when it is not fresh I think is a shame. Otherwise the lobster ravioli and oysters were very good.
Service was extremely slow. Waitress blamed the kitchen for the overload in orders. But when we were finished with our meal, it took a good 15 minutes to clear the table and ask if we would like coffee or dessert. No Thank You... Check Please!
Overall very poor experience. We went on a Saturday night and the place was near empty, which we could clearly see because the lights were on full bright. Zero ambiance and there wasnt even music playing. Service was very slow and it took close to 40 minutes to get us out a charcuterie board and beef tartare, despite that the place was empty and those are cold dishes! We also took our time eating and the server didnt ask if we wanted more wine until we were done. To top it all off, they served us Ritz crackers with the charcuterie! That really tells you all you need to know about their standards. We left and went to El Camino for tacos
Really disappointing. We had the oysters, which were incredibly tiny and dried out, the escargot (of which the highlight was the cheese) and the bouillabaisse which which had lemon juice as the main ingredient and was inedible. We ve been to the Metrpolitaine many times. It used to be fantastic French brassiere but last night was a very low point.
Great food, and service.
Service from Walter and support staff was excellent! Very attentive. Hot plate with hot breakfast! Everyone enjoyed their choice!
Came in party of 6, mixed experiences. To preface service and atmosphere, Amazing. The food was 50/50. The Steak was the biggest disappointment, almost $40 for a 9oz steak and a freezer bags worth of fries. At that price point the plate shouldnt be 80% fries in a mound. However the Lobster Ravioli, Porkchop, Duck, and the Le Club all fantastic and worth it. So the comparison is rough when other dishes look like a proper planned items and the steak is.. a bag if fries with steak on the side. Look at photos online prior to ordering if you have doubts of presentation or quality.
We were seated outside, so among the traffic and a vocal individual on the street it made for a different atmosphere. However the service and the meal was excellent.
We travel quite a bit. I really enjoy hot water with my meals with lemon. No place has ever charged extra for lemon. The server said that the owner told her to charge me extra for the lemon. Seemed very petty to add that surcharge The owner actually said do you know what lemons cost in the market? I m like yes about 49 cents. Since I can get a whole lemon for 49 cents I can only imagine a restaurant buying lemons in bulk probably cost about 25 cents each . How cheap can they really be at this establishment .??? All that for a negative review. Perhaps they should tell the guest in advance of a charge before hand. Can t recommend this place. The prices are high and portions are small.
Very trendy and loud. The food was very good, the service was good, but my party couldn t hear one another speak over the background noise. I had a hard time deciding on what to order, and the three of us in my party all chose something different and enjoyed our meals. There was a nice selection on the menu. The flourless chocolate torte was incredible! Parking: It s fine after work hours, but during the day would be awful. Kid-friendliness: Not a place I could bring children, although there were some there. Wheelchair accessibility: It doesn t seem like it, although you might be able to get a table outside if you go through the parking lot elevator. It struck me as not enough room to navigate through inside.
This place is clearly overrated! We went there because we had a discount receipt from Starling (We love this place). They made us wait 45 minutes while the patio was empty. The service was super slow. We ordered oysters, beef tartare and a burger. The oysters were good. The tartare had no flavor and the bread was dry not crispy. We asked for new bread and the waitress argued with us. The burger tasted good, but the bread was soggy.
Mussels with Pernod, tomatoes, leeks and celery....a treat
I had the beef sandwich. Not the same as last time. Meat had a lot of fat and was stringy. I told the waiter. Also the sauce was full of grease. Terrible. I love this restaurant, and I cant wrap my head around what went wrong.
We werent inside
A unique and tasty place for brunch!
Really very good Personal smiling Fast service
Its first time to write a review but this place is too horrible. All the food was not fresh i think it was made long time ago and they just warm it before serve to us. Avoid this place!
I ve been here several times and have never been disappointed with the food or service. I highly recommend it. Had the Grilled Mackerel this time. The charring and horseradish sauce balances the fish perfectly. Asparagus was excellent. Not soggy or limp but had just the right amount of crunch. Champagne cocktail was delicious. Not overly sweet as I expected. I dined with a pescatarian and there were plenty of options to choose from.
I enjoyed a lovely cocktail called the Eiffel Sour, which was very tasty. Then I ordered the steak sandwich (recommended by the server) with Ceasar salad. It was absolutely delicious! I would highly recommend it. My server Tanya was very attentive and helpful.
Recently dined here to celebrate a friends birthday and service from Jonathan was impeccable ! Thank you :)
The burrata bread entree and red sangria were to die for!
Seafood tower was fantastic!
We were seated indoors for dinner and very much enjoyed the duck confit, sweet potato fries, and steak sandwich, however, the soup of the day (cauliflower??) was not that memorable. Our food was a little slow to come out but not outrageously so. The atmosphere was quite lively, a nice energetic vibe but may not be the best for deep conversation or soft voices! We briefly noted our reservation was for anniversary but didnt elaborate further, so were actually indifferent about our occasion being missed/ignored, but I include this remark because it might matter to someone else. Overall a good dining experience falling short of exceptional.
Food was great and the service was excellent!
We tried this restaurant tonight and had high hopes. The service was top notch, friendly, polite, and attentive. I had the steak, ordered medium rare, sadly I was disappointed with the presentation, the cut, and taste. The steak was bland and a little over cooked, the fries were your typical McCain fries thrown on the plate. No salad or sides other than the fries. Nothing special. I did enjoy the decor, but did notice that its extremely dusty - Look at the ceiling...The bathroom sink was out of order, but was otherwise clean. I would go back, but wouldnt recommend the steak.
The service was wonderful! I particularly enjoyed my friend s duck confit:D, which was cooked to perfection and had a delicious flavor. The restaurant had a great atmosphere, especially for a bday party!
As someone who works in kitchens for many years and has high standards with food, I will have to give this 5 stars. Food was fantastic! We got the lobster ravioli with seared sea scallops. Ravioli was perfectly cooked, sauce was tasty and left you wanting more. Scallops were a bit burnt tasting but otherwise good. 9/10 Steak sandwich with au jus was soo tasty. Not many restaurants have good steak sandwiches that arent dry but this sandwich was definitely 10/10 Steak fries was pretty good, ordered it rare so it would end up medium rare once delivered and it was. Was perfectly cooked and garlic butter added an extra flavour boost to it. 10/10 Fries were good with garlic aioli to dip them in. 8/10 Good meal, Thanks Metropolitan
Overall I would rate our Saturday Brunch experience as average. The Mussels were well cooked however the Thai Red Curry Coconut broth was flavourless. The frites were average run of the mill French Fries. The Ribeye Cob Salad s ingredients were fine and the steak cooked properly, however it would have been much better presented as a salad in a bowl that could be easily mixed. The Cheeseburger was just that, nothing special. Overall a very average, yet overpriced, experience. Our server was pleasant but put little effort into making our lunch experience special.
Great food, server was not thrilled I asked for an English menu.
Unfortunately did not have a good experience. Waited a long time for our food and it almost all came out lukewarm or cold. We specifically asked for the kettle chips to come out first so we could munch on them while we waited for main course, however they were brought out with the main courses and were completely cold. The spaghetti was also lukewarm and looked like it had been sitting under a heat lamp for a long time before bringing to us. The poutine gravy was hot, but the fries underneath were cold. The french onion soup was quite poor. Very watery and bland. It is very frustrating to wait a long time for food and then get it cold. Also, to get appetizer at same time as your main course, served cold. The server was very apologetic and took 25% off the bill. However, I honestly wish we had just sent everything back, paid for the drinks, and gone to Mcdonald s. Some positives are that the place does have a nice outdoor patio, and a nice atmosphere.
Going to go for a 3.7 stars out of 5 stars, on this one. Been wanting to give MB a try for some number of years now the freedom convoy and Covid both set that back a year or 2 as they basically held hostage this resto, as a ground zero point for their thug activities. So, kudos to MB for hanging it tough throughout those dark days involving gangsta trucka s on their turf. To the review now : the place is well designed and thought out, in an old school brasserie type of layout. But hard to pinpoint why, it seemed to lack the ambiance of long-time-ago brasseries. A+ for effort though, but a B for final results and effect. The place was not too cleanly as one might expect for the higher prices, and tripping hazards are everywhere. This is important to note, for a place where alcohol would be the norm. The food was thoughtfully described and inviting to the palate on paper, but didn t fully hit the mark, as served. Bacon was well underdone , chicken was hunk-ish and cooked but just barely to the point of full whiteness. A little bit more would be helpful. Salad pieces in the sandwiches were very spartan and the Aioli was far too garlicky, definitely not subtle. The menu was too overloaded on fish items. The waitress though - was prompt, adept, and very good at her job. The beer selection with all of its craft listings - do not make note of the alcohol content. This would be helpful. So we conclude with the prices: The prices are above average for what one could similarly expect elsewhere. (ie $25 for a club sandwich). With the higher prices, execution needs to be better, if return customers are the goal. Annoyingly for me - the POS terminal only offered standard Tip percentages of 18% 20% and 22%. To get to a Top Tier service rate top of 15% , it has to be custom programmed. That s not good. What are restos thinking with this 20% type of tipping? Overall, some things ok here, and a few other changes would be helpful. 3.7 / 5.0 . Came for curiosity but not likely returning.
Will not be returning. Service was painfully slow. I was there when it wasn t busy yet the staff were more interested in socializing with one another than servicing the customers who were waiting for service.
We have been here several times and loved it! Tonight, Food was not good Server was bland, not very personable Escargo was mostly cheese, not much butter or garlic The haddock was mostly breading Cscear salad was huge but tastless Lobster shrimp was was terrible Very disappointing .. We will not be back!
We had brunch here recently, and were drawn in by their beautiful patio area. However, our server had quite an attitude, despite being careless and slow. Simple orders were mixed up, and items forgotten. The food was atrociusly bad - we could have had a far better brunch at the nearby Farm Boy grocery store counter. Will not return.
We went here for lunch not so much for what it was but were. We stopped here to get out of the sun and heat. A couple of us had a caprese salad which was good. Everyone else thought their food was good. Our server was very nice and competent. The atmosphere was so so. Old fixtures, older chairs functional but could use a little sprucing up. The restaurant was clean. As we come to Ottawa about once a year I would have no problem returning to Metropolitan Brasserie.
The pros: our server was delightful, and the food delicious and served promptly. Wide variety of cocktails added to our evening. The cons: was there to celebrate a milestone birthday, as indicated in our reservation. Staff either couldnt be bothered to read comments in the reservation, or couldnt be bothered to take even one small step to pass along even a simple Birthday wish. Though did not request outside seating in my reservation, was told we were being seated outside on an extremely hot evening. When I asked to be seated inside, I was greeted with an eye roll and told to pick a seat here or over there. No A/C in the restaurant either? Extremely hot and humid even inside that evening. Restaurant reaches out for my feedback - via what Im assuming is some kind of automated email, to which I shared my concerns, with no reply 5 days later so here we are. Good food, and a nice wait staff, but if you want something of an experience with an extra touch or two, it didnt live up to my expectations, maybe it will yours.
Its a no no. I had a vegetarian sandwich that was absolutely terrible and extremely overpriced. Low quality and old bread; with no real vegetables in a vegetatian sandwich.
I didnt have too many expectations from this restaurant but really the service was perfect, the food was super good and I really loved my Lyonnaise salad my family really liked it!!
Great service and waiter. I had a dinner date there and the environment was spectacular I will be back!
Kinda becoming our go-to place for work engagements. Decent grub and drinks, good place to sit around and chat. Friendly staff.
We had dinner here on our wedding anniversary this year and were very pleasantly surprised that 2 lovely glasses of free champagne were brought to us 2 minutes after we were seated. Additionally, several staff members also stopped by our table to wish us happy anniversary. The food was fantastic! The wine was delicious! The burrata appetizer was so good, we stopped bak in for another as a late afternoon snack. Overall the best dining experience we had on our trip to Ottawa. Metropolitan will remain on our list of favorites for all future visits to this lovely city.
Had our wedding reception here and it was perfect. The meal, drinks and coordination was excellent. Great area in the back with a dance floor.
We had just two months before our wedding to find a new reception venue after the original one closed down. We were so happy to discover that the Metropolitain had an available space for our reception. We had our wedding reception there last Saturday, and everything was perfect we couldn t have asked for more. Sarah, our event coordinator, did a fantastic job setting up all the decorations and tables. She consistently met our needs and created a dream reception that anyone would wish for. Our server ensured the food was served according to our timeline and was incredibly attentive and kind. Michael, our bartender, prepared excellent drinks, and everyone was so impressed! I had a grilled fillet mignon for dinner and it was a perfect medium rare with rich and creamy Diane sauce. Sooo good! Even late night snacks surpassed our expectations and the guests were saying it was the best chicken slider they ve ever had! From the food and drinks to the staff and overall service, everything was impeccable. We are so happy that we chose the Metropolitain for the most important event of our lives and will definitely revisit for future events!
Great appetizers but the mains were underwhelming. Do not order the lobster roll
Love going here for oysters. The service is great, very friendly. Friends had the seafood combo dish (i cant remember the exact name) its pictured below which was good.
Excellent Food!! Excellent location. The staff were absolutely amazing. We were there for a wedding reception on May 25th and I cant express how great the staff made everyone feel..great job everyone!! And thank you. Dave
Amazing food amazing service!
Clean, fast and courteous.
Had the fish and chips, it was delicious.
Discriminates against families with young children. We were told that they would not serve our group (4 adults, 3 babies in our laps) seated at an outdoor table with four chairs.
This place has staff that discriminated against us in a flagrant way. Will never set foot in there ever again.
Good service but the food is not worth the hassle, the oysters are nice but the sides were Tabasco with no creativity. It is hard spending alot of money on a dinner just to need to go to another restaurant to feel fed. No amount of service is worth the waste. Food
The food as burned, rotten tomatoes.
Amazing food, service was great, but man, the food!!! Steak Sammy is killer!
Food and service is always excellent. On of my favorite go to restaurants.
Absolutely love this place, can be pricey but is without a doubt worth it. Would definitely recommend the mussels in the white wine broth! Parking: Park in the market and walk from there!
I love this place! Fantastic food and very friendly staff!
Ordered a Nicoise salad, a mussels soup and raviole lobster. The salmon in the salad came in raw (which we got a 50% discount) from the restaurants. But the scallops in the raviole lobster came in also raw which they cooked it again for us. Service is good, but they forgot to bring cutlery and napkins when we sat down Servers are kind and helped us with accomodations and food came in fast. Food was far from fabulous. Tasted like a at home meal. Way too overpriced for the portion.
Super close to parliament hill, where you can have a nice brunch
It was my second visit. Food was good. Staff is friendly, but both times, we didnt get utensils until we asked. Last time, the utensils we got were dirty. This time, managing bills was complicated. I recommend the place (great spot), but someone needs to bring some rigour and experience to the team.
Very tasty food, it was after 2h00pm when we went but the services were impacable. Very nice place for a healthy and fresh food. The desert was amazing , the yam pie delicious.
Best restaurant in Ottawa !! I
A fine French menu, excellent location for transit access, and lovely milieu make this an excellent stop for the less price-conscious diner. Service can be less than attentive, presumably because of the cozy, private layout.
Eight of us celebrated a relatives lunch here today. The server was incredibly friendly and helpful. Everyone enjoyed their lunch. I ordered the special at $28, Red Snapper on a Cod Cale with asparagus and a Caviar Butter Sauce. Cooked perfect and looked good. Vegetarian options: They had several tempting vegetarian and vegan options. Parking: The Byward Market is always busy so we parked across the street at the Rideau Centre . Kid-friendliness: Young kids were there and seemed to be happy.
The food was just okay. The escargot was a bit disappointing because the cheese was too salty, which covered the taste of the escargot. As for the steak, it was nothing special, just a regular steak.
Excellent mussels and fries!
I love how the Benedict egg is paired with smoked salmon and hash browns, the other one with avocado also tastes great
Bad stuff first; the food is pretty solid but horrifically overpriced. The service is a little hit or miss, sometimes its really slow, sometimes it feels like theyre rushing you out the door. Now for the good: the atmosphere. Inside is pretty nice, good feel to it, but the patio? Best spot in the city for an afternoon/evening drink, bar none. Its like a relaxed little oasis at the bustling heart of the city. Spectacular place for a business lunch, or an evening cocktail with friends.
Had fish and chips. More batter than fish and your frying oil needs changing. Was so dark it looked burnt. Not impressed and would not go back.
The food was fantastic. The service was faster than I expected and parking is close. If someone really likes fish they have a lot of great options
From a lover of brasseries, exactly what a brasserie should - warm, lively, and a constant buzz of laughter and good conversation. And of course feel good French foods. A shout out to Sarah, her thoughtful partner posing piercing political questions , and their lovely and handsome companion Timothy- thank you all for the smiles and well wishes. Michael.
Go for the happy hour specials
The the French onion soup was lukewarm with a cheese puck on top. The beef tartare was the worst Ive ever had, there was gristle in it and the meat was in big chunks, very bland unseasoned. Wanted to enjoy the food but the meal was disappointing. Our waiter was great though!
Great for both big parties, and intimate catch-ups. Convenient location, Michael & Johnny are wonderful and absolute gems
Absolutely amazing. I recommend asking the server for cocktails suggestions.. they have many. I enjoyed The Met. They offer excellent raw bar happy hour specials (oysters for $3 each!). For dinner I had the Coq au vin .. which was divine. The place is legit! Food is top notch, decor is beautiful decor and the staff care about their jobs and the patrons. Cant wait to go back :)
The food and the service is very good but the hostess doesnt feel you welcome or recognized as a very regular customer. I visited several time a week this restaurant especially when it was opened during the pandemic until this February 2024. I just got fed up to come to a restaurant around 4:30 or 5:00pm and asked to be seat in a booth or a sofa and have this request denied when no-one is seating any of them for the following 2 hours. At this time to be honest the restaurant is kind of empty. Each time the reason was sorry its already booked. Well you guys were pretty happy over the years to have our business during the tough time. I came back this Friday at 4:00pm with a group of 3 and the restaurant was quite empty at the exception of 3 tables and the request for a booth was denied. We got a drink and left the restaurant 1 hour and a half later, it was still empty. We went to another restaurant for diner. its really sad because the food and the service is really great. Unfortunately the management is nowhere to be seen and doesnt really care about customer service.
Went for a private function. Excellent service, knowledgeable bar staff and classy, but comfortable setting.
I recently enjoyed a wonderful lunch experience with my best friend at the Metropolitain Brasserie. We arrived at the height of weekday business lunch dining, the restaurant was full, lively and loud. Luckily we chose a late lunch reservation on purpose so the atmosphere soon quieted down and we asked for a corner location so we could partake in a 2 hour leisurely lunch. Cocktails were perfect (a Gibson and a dirty Vodka Martini) - the bartender is the longest serving member of the team and has been at this location since opening. He knows his stuff! Oysters and Flatbread appetizers were delightful, followed by Steak Frites (the seasoning on the French Fries was heavenly) and tender Veal paired with a bottle of Zinfandel (as recommended by our sommelier). For dessert it was Orange Cake and Profiteroles (the best I ve had), accompanied by dessert cocktails - the Night Owl was amazing. Throughout the meal we were appropriately attended by our servers and the bartender came over for a lovely chat too (the perks of picking a quieter time for the reservation). Both my friend and I enjoy engaging with the restaurant staff so we can gain the most from our experience. Overall, we were thrilled and both commented on what a joy it was to eat here. Will definitely come back SOON! Excellence and quality.
My husband and I held our wedding reception here this past October. Sarah was absolutely incredible throughout the whole wedding process. She ensured we were able to get everything we wanted by taking our ideas and making them come to life. The food and drinks were exceptional as always and the staff on the night of the reception were truly amazing. Thank you to Sarah and the Metropolitain team for making our special day magical!
Wonderful 1940ish atmosphere. Had lobster ravioli with exactly done pan fried scallops. The braised veal was cooked to delicious perfection. The basque cheesecake desert was so flavourful. Just a delightful experience.
This is my go to.
My fiancé and I made reservations here for our 1 year engagement anniversary. Im actually embarrassed at how poorly this evening went. The servers were rude and the service was terrible. The atmosphere seemed nice at first, but after looking around we realized how dirty it actually was. And the food was the biggest disappointment of all. I ordered the duck confit and was given the fattiest piece of duck Ive ever seen in my life. And my fiancés steak sandwich was so middle road. Overpriced waste of time.
It is a pub atmosphere, however the food is a higher than normal quality. Bonus: shrimp and oysters are on special 4-7pm!
The best spot for a group event. Just incredible venue and staff are superb.
Great place worth the price ! Food was amazing and service was best in town ! Food
Great atmosphere, great service, great food
The food was good. But for a weekday in the city to wait 45 minutes during lunchtime for a sandwich (steak) is way too long. The server did not take attention to us and it was complicated to have water.
The food never disappoints and the service is always excellent!!
This is a great place to visit because of the atmosphere and great service but I do think the food needs some improvement. The calamari was extra salt and some aspects of the other dishes I tried lacked flavour. However , someone in my party had a birthday and was given complimentary cake. For the price I pay I demand better tasting food . The cost is similar to fine dining but quality of food is lacking. Can t say I would return as price and food quality are far from each other. Portion size could be larger as well.
Had our wedding dinner and reception at the Métropolitain end of a July. The food, service, and staff were all exceptional. All of our guests went out of their way to praise the venue. They were accommodating and professional throughout the planning process. Special thanks to Sarah and Crystal who made the booking and planning as easy as possible. I would definitely recommend them for an event or just a nice night out!
I told our server I was really hungry and she recommended the lobster. It was the worst lobster dish Ive ever had. I didnt mind buying the most expensive thing on the menu but it wasnt worth it... Thank god for the appetizers! Great location but horrible service.
The Metropolitan has always been a good option for food in the Market. It has a nice varied menu that should accomodate most palates and they are able to accomodate food allergies. Our son with peanut, tree nuts, and sesame allergies enjoyed the fish and chips. Food
To the team at the Met, I just wanted to say a big thank you to you all for providing such a beautiful place for our wedding reception! We couldn t have wanted anything to go better. Graham was absolutely the best host and made serving everyone there seem so effortless. And the servers were also brilliant and very good at navigating the chaotic mess of all the social butterflies that we guests were. I highly recommend the Met for any dining need, from a walk-in lunch to a wedding party! Thank you, and all the warm feels, Jesse
Amazing staff who were so friendly and went above and beyond. Food was delicious - lobster ravioli was amazing
Nice. My fave in Ottawa.
Very nice vintage restaurant with good and tasty food. Very nice for lunch.
Very disappointed
Friendly staff, wasnt a fan of their cocktails or calamari, I did enjoy the oysters and shrimp (especially during hill hour- great price)
The food was nice but the service was stallar.
The server was attentive!! Beautiful location for a 5@7
Hostess are really nice Here they make sure that You get what You need. The food is really good
Delicious food, great service. They have kids menu as well. Staff was friendly and welcoming. We preferred patio and had a good time dining in here. Server checked in twice after serving us to see if we needed anything else. I recommend dining in here.
Very poor selection, not really aware of allergies did not fill with confidence. Great for a drink needs work on menu. Good atmosphere and architecture.
Arriving at our hotel in Ottawa, this was the closest restaurant. We were not disappointed. The dishes are really not bad, hearty and tasty without being too sophisticated. The only downside I find is the price. A little above the market, but given the location its completely understandable.
Sat inside on a summers eve when most wanted to be outside. Glad we did! Bartender was fantastic and took excellent care of us.
I sat on the terrace and had the oysters. It was delightful.
Food was tasty but not inspired. Great service. Expensive for what it was.
Delicious cozy place and fast service
My server Michael was great. Very friendly and informative. The food was decent but not totally as advertised. Was still flavorful. I would return.
Super nice experience! The food was excellent and very nice atmosphere.
We just happened to come across the Metropolitan and it was a great find. We had a late breakfast which was very good. I had the avocado scramble and my wife had the waffle with fruit and both were very good. Service was great and our waitress had a great sense of humor and a very nice smile. Can highly recommend this place if in the area. If we had more time in Ottawa, we would definitely go back again.
The Calimary was like rubber and we had to sit outside because there was no room inside . This was back last year in September of 2022. We want be back .
Great patio Always touristy Near fairmont and rideau! Dog friendly patio Vegetarian options: Salads available or french fries Dietary restrictions: Vegetarian options vegan as well Kid-friendliness: Kid friendly Wheelchair accessibility: Very much accessible for wheelchair
This is my favourite restaurant in Ottawa. For an upscale place where you can be dressy or dress down, the prices are very reasonable while the food quality is the best in Ottawa in my opinion. They have halibut here. They have fancy vegetarian and vegan dishes that are absolutely delicious. The staff are classy and quite frankly all attractive. In the summer, their patio is great for people watching and is comfortable. The only downside of this place is finding parking nearby. I tend to park at the mall nearby and walk. Vegetarian options: Excellent high-quality vegetarian dinner dishes here. You are not stuck with just salads!
I ordered the Coquille St. Jacques and I think the Gruyere/Cream mixture was not mixed properly or overcooked. It clumped together on the top forming an inseparable mass which is usually the best part of the dish! My wife had the duck confit which she enjoyed. The bathroom was a mess with an overflowing garbage can which is very authentic for a french bistro, but I expect more from this place.
Everything is perfect. Food, service. I like this restaurant.
SO EXPENSIVE for the quality of food. You can get much better for this price.
After an awkward interaction with what seemed to be the manager on duty when we arrived for our reservation, he seemed very annoyed that we wanted to eat inside instead of the patio, even though there were many tables open inside and we were told we ve have to wait for the patio (even though we had a reservation..). After that we were seated and had a lovely meal. We had a couple questions for our server but she informed us she was new and had to ask a couple of coworkers for some the answers but was SO lovely it didn t bother us one bit. The food was amazing. We had an oysters to start followed by the seafood tower, an incredible beef tartar, French onion soup and the lobster ravioli. (The ravioli was the only thing that wasn t amazing, everything else was superb).
Had the lunch special, Halibut, which was outstanding. Great atmosphere in the heart of the City.
The first impression after being seated was that this restaurant appeared tired and somewhat unsure of it s identity: casual-fine dining, offering French cuisine, or very casual, dated, mixed menu family diner. The prices suggest the former, the atmosphere/experience suggest the latter. Service was prompt and pleasant, and cocktails were tasty. Appetizer choice on this occasion was the charcuterie board, which came with the recommendation of the server as being plentiful. This was terribly disappointing. Poor meat and cheese selection, random other offerings, crostini that was horribly brittle, and perhaps most inexcusable was mustard and jelly being served in paper cups. For this price, that is unacceptable. The main courses were quite good, I had the rabbit confit, and it was packed with flavour and juicy. There is so much potential based on location and menu, but quite disappointing overall. I won t be returning.
Hosted a private function and everything was excellent. Hard to beat location and price as well
Good Parisian brasserie style cuisine
Great place to enjoy, eat and have fun. Service was excellent and the food was great.
So average, came here for brunch and it was basically stuff that I can cook at home. Very basic for the price.
I was expecting more. The food was just okay and the staff seemed to be more interested in talking to each other than serving customers
Brunch was average. Looks like French bistro, but toast was to both American, fruit was inedible. Storage room kept wide open
The overall decor and setting is nice, but service quality was poor, and mainly food quality was low. We ordered a Coquille St Jacques and Blanquette de Saumon. Both were low-quality and with lack of seasoning. The Coquilles scallops were good, but the potatoes and spinach were tasteless. Just adding butter and salt would have made it better. The salmon was dry and under-seasoned. We also ordered glasses of sparkling wine, that tasted like from bottles left open for two+ days. Really any cheap prosecco from LCBO tastes better than that.
A very nice atmospheric place. The waitress was so kind that we felt like we were her best customers ever). The food is delicious, although we didnt like the poutine, but thats a matter of taste.
The food is really tasty ( Id recommend the steak sandwich) but most of the the service was amazing. Yuna was phenomenal and went above and beyond! I would highly recommend.
Great place to meet up downtown, quiet enough to chat and great options on the menu from pub fare to healthy cuisine
Service was great, Michael our server went above and beyond. The dishes were expensive for food I felt didnt match. They dont skimp on the fries, so if thats your thing, go for it.
As upscaled as this restaurant seems the obiance is quick cute however I would consider going elsewhere for a fancy dinner. This locations is far from fancy but very pricey! Definitely stay clear of calamari which one would think would be crispy and fresh. Not only overly burnt , stringy and not edible. Bread is a $6 charge and.not offered at the start of your dinner. Steaks are not the same oz as on the the menu. Definitely reconsider your evening out.
Our drinks and especially the service were excellent. However, after eating the steak frites here my boyfriend got food poisoning, so would be weary of coming back.
We had an exceptional meal this weekend which was enhanced by our knowledgeable and friendly server. We started with cocktails that were promptly prepared and delivered a delicious opening to the meal that was to come. The beef tartare, escargot, duck confit, and bouillabaisse are highly recommended.
Favorite place to go Favorite place to eat Everything is top-notch Waiting for your food might be a while though I asked for bread and butter at the very beginning Food is flavorful and beyond expectations Im going back to try everything on that menu will be going again and again and again Suggestions veal gnocchi is to die for the lobster ravioli with rose sauce and French onion soup were
Great food, great staff, great location. Chilled atmosphere.
Nice atmosphere, good location, above average food. The restaurant is also very well located. Its large and very good for a reception like 5 to 7.
Good place and place. Def visit again
Still a fave but it is unfortunate the charcuterie platter has fallen foul to shrinkflation - cant believe there isnt even any pâté on it any more :( Food tastes delicious and service yet again was amazing.
Great ambience. The buzz is lively, relaxed, fun. Never been disappointed with the servers. Attentive. The food, however, is always disappointing and tonight was no exception. We know (our server told us years ago) that many, if not all, of the sauces are from a bottle. It tastes it. Some of the recipes consist of weird combos. Strong cheese with lobster ravioli? Bread was stale, chilled cocktail was warm all very disappointing. But we love the ambience and the wait staff so much we will continue to go and recommend you do too! Just have realistic expectations.
Love this place. Excellent food and prompt attentive service. Appreciated that they noted that we were going to the NAC afterwards.
One of my favourite places in the city for oysters! They re always fresh and the service is 10/10
Im giving this only 2 stars. Went there for a team year-end dinner and was disappointed considering the price we paid. In general, the food was good but not great. When paying $40 per meal, i expect a decently great meal. The service was lacking too.
Food was okay just not great. Salmon was overcooked and the potatoes were undercooked. Orange cake while delicious was dry. Not so bad I would not return but not my first choice in Ottawa.
