In addition, at Wedel you can enjoy something sweet and freshly baked every day of the week.
$9.99 for a semi-warm sausage on a hard and stale bun. Unfortunately we didn't find out that the bun was hard and stale until we got home. Terrible.
One of my favorite places to go for a quick bite for lunch! Their pork schnitzel on a bun with sauerkraut and mustard is eliteeee. I also love their “Hungarian fries” a great mix of fries and different sausages, add a little sour cream on top and you have yourself a wonderful side. Every hot dish of theirs I’ve ever tried has been delicious, small business run by a kind lady and her family. Also a location in Westboro serving up the same deliciousness as well !
My favourite European store in Ottawa is my favourite European store. We love their homemade food🤩 soups, schnitzel, salads, pierogi, 🤩 I buy their gifts for my children’s teachers (teas, sweets, coffees, jams, etc.). They also offer cosmetics (I got their face cream from Ziaja—the best face cream I ever had). Great service! I am impressed by their kindness, even with the rudest customers. I guess it is not a place here to review customers, but wow, how some people are 🤯
It wasn't the first time in the store, but it was definitely the last time. Two cashier girls, in russian language , discussed the shop's customers. They called people not very pleasant words, ridiculed their behaviour. They didn't even think I understood them. I can't recommend a store that doesn't respect its customers.
Nice and honest staff, and the food was not bad. The staff recommended which items to try and which ones that weren’t highly recommended. Tried the Pierozki with beef. It was ok. The dough was good and the meat had a nice flavour. Because it’s only beef inside I felt like it was too much for me since I’m not used to it. Would come back to take a look on what other European items they’re carrying on their shelves.
Great selection of Polish/Ukrainian/German and overall European food goods and other specialities (chocolates and sweet/salty treats) as well as take-out food to bring home. Found some of my German favourites (red cabbage sauerkraut and Gewurz-Spekulatius biscuits) are hard to find locally. One less star bc I was not impressed by the cabbage rolls as I am used to a different filling but they were still very nice accompanied by yummy potato laktes. Amazingly helpful and friendly staff. Will definitely go back for supplies.
Nice shop with various delicious European (a lot of Russian) products, great service, friendly stuff, you can find Russian souvenirs here, good quality european sausages, cosmetics. Highly recommended!
Love this beautiful shop. Everything is clean. Food is fantastic.Deli counter is the best in the market. Specialty teas, coffees, jams..perogies , cabbage rolls and home made borscht soups! Lovely ornaments throughout this store. Worth a visit!
For the first time in a long time, I felt like I was not in Canada. No complaints about the products but no need to be so angry!!! Im talking about the staff))
Very tasty food and a very nice woman behind the counter, we will definitely be back!
I really liked the store! There are goods from Ukraine and Poland! Girls
This is a Polish store that sells food and products from the eastern European countries, most of the time is good
SKETCHY! RUDE! UNWELCOMING! INCOMPETENT! NOT HELPFUL! Im not big on leaving reviews, but wow was that a horrible experience. The cashier (muscley man), skipped me and went to the next person in line. I didnt say anything as we are all humans maybe he didnt notice me (?). Then when he finally attended to me, I politely asked him questions, but he couldnt give me a clear answer, just went around the bush without answering my question. When I was ready to pay, he again served another customer in line (even though she told him that it wasnt her turn, theres no rush and she can wait until he is done serving me), he said its okay, he can serve her first. Also, the prices are very misleading. Some items dont have a price tag, and others had one price sticked on the packaging ($5.99 - not per lb/kg/g, just flat out $5.99 and nothing else), but then the cashier weighted it, without explaining the details of the price and I ended up paying double of the mentioned price. Usually when stores weight items, the machine spits out a sticker stating the price per weight and the total amount due. I think the man just weighted it, but then cancelled the action on the machine? because I did not get the sticker on my item. Also, my receipt says that I paid cash, but in fact, I paid with a credit card. Was my first and last time there.
Wedel s in Westboro is fantastic - the sandwiches and pierogis are the best. And the people are lovely.
Great food, large grocery selection, and very friendly service. Thank you, Wedel!
Matryoshka house! Not recommended for any Ukrainians to go there. Staff not honest. Over the phone they confirmed the availability of the easter bread, when I arrived 40 minutes later they said that they had run out and were trying to sell something unknown. I came there first and definitely last time.
Thank you for the delicious dessert and delicious sausage
Good shop for all your charcuterie and sweet needs. However, for the rest of the store items, make sure you know how much they go for. On multiple occasions staff would add 1$ or 0.5$ per unit because they dont remember the price. Correcting them will rectify the price.
Purchased a poppyseed cake at this location today & it was STALE like sawdust. Can t tell me they were not aware!!! It s difficult enough driving & parking in the market & getting SCREWED on top of it. Just lost a customer!
Bought a stale donut there a couple days ago & now I have a cold. I havent had a cold for 10 years!
The potato salad with dill and finely chopped pickle was absolutely delicious.
Cutely decorated and very nice owner
I walked in looking for a gift for my step mom. The friendly staff helped me pick out some item and made up gift basket for me. You could just tell the staff are passionate about what they do. Amazing experience. Will definitely be back to try their nostalgic food and more sweets!
Wonderful REAL European food, real pork Schnitzel with REAL MASH, authentic, like my mother and my grandmothers cooking, hearty, filling and delicious. I couldnt finish the meal I received, substantial portions, the food is excellent. I cant wait to try the cabbage rolls and pierogi next!
Great selection of European products!
I love picking up my lunch here, reminds me of back home
Soooo hard to not buy everything in the store - good prices and good food from everywhere in Europe! Smakelijk eten!
My favorite store in ottawa
Very rude customer service.
What a wonderful store full of authentic Polish goodies! The deli, the desserts, the candy.... love this place!
Great selection of European products with a heavy emphasis on snacks.
Authentic and local family place. The platter was a great choice to try a little of everything. Real hole in the wall place and a must try! Everything we tried was amazing!
I ordered from Uber eats and if this really is a touch of Europe then Im so sorry for the people across the pond. The perogies were oily and flavorless, the cabbage rolls had no seasoning and the tomato sauce was more water than anything else, the schnitzel was HARD and felt like I was eating a leather strap. Maybe its better if you go in, but dont order food from here. Terrible quality.
Try the sausage in a Bun. Best in town, dare I say in Canada. I just entered here to get some shadow when I caught the aroma. 9 bucks for a fantastic sausage in a bun. Plus The store sells pretty much everything that you might need.
I love to shop here. The sweets they make is very delicious and for great price. go there in the weekend for more variety of the sweet that actually home made. I also find here the chocolate that I used to eat when I was a kid before coming to Canada. You have to try this place if you are in downtown.
Great hot dog and sauerkraut, ordered 2, one without mustard but the guy mustarded both
Great place! Awesome selection! Awesome prices! We will be back!
There are so many Haribo, the children are so happy!
Rude stuff. Wrong price. Bad quality products. Highly not recommend.
The food here is authentic and delicious. This staff are friendly and take obvious pride in the quality of food. Excellent, affordable lunch options available. Be sure to try the perogies.
10/10 would highly reccomend! Food variety, service, and the whole atmosphere - AMAZING! Food at this place is delicious! You can tell that owner cares about quality and what they are serving to their clientele! I have read some of the previous comments about cheescake, and I must say this: European cheesecake is not dry it s the way they are supposed to be! Being European, moving to North America made me think that the cheesecakes here were too watery . it is the difference in culture bakings! Both delicious ;) Anyways, if you are in area check out this gem of a place that Ottawa needed!
Absolutely loved this spot! Great selection of European goods, snacks and products. I was able to pick up some drinks and snacks recommended to me by my British and Polish friends here and loved all of it! They also have an awesome selection of hot food we got the Hungarian Fries which were great and the Perogies were really good too!
Never seen a Polish store so well equipped. The pierogis are excellent (just after my grandmother s, so that s saying something!). It s homemade on site by a lady. The cold cuts are great, everything is fresh and the service is impeccable! The pickles are great like in Poland!
Great selection of sweets
Fantastic place for European culinary ingredients, confectionery, and fresh food. The deli meat selection is superb and the sandwiches are exceptional. Service is professional and the staff are all lovely! Definitely worth stopping by if you re looking for specific imported things from Europe, hard to find flavours of your favourite sweets, or just for a great and affordable lunch!
The cakes from here are absolute garbage.
Stopped in Sunday morning ( visiting from Montreal) to buy polish donuts and cheese danishes. I asked if these items were fresh and was assured by a gentleman working there that they are. Not the case at all. They tasted like they were at least a day old. I am very disappointed. It is my third time coming here and in the past, the donuts and danishes were fresh and tasty. It is unfortunate that I don t feel like I can trust the freshness of what is sold. For this reason, I won t come back.
This store is full of Russian goods (unfortunately, I will not return there again ((but what about the effect of sanctions??
There are many Hungarian and Eastern European products.
Great please , large amount of variety and fresh things
Love it!
Their sausages, sauerkraut and schnitzel are amazing. A cute family run establishment gives off friendly vibes. A must visit if you want products from East, Central and Western Europe.
Love the service. Very helpful. Attentive. Nice and welcoming. In addition to great food. Organic sausages make a huge difference to me.
Very friendly staff
Great selection but most items are expired.. didn t notice till I got home.
Excellent food - really good quality. Plus, lots of goods you cant find anywhere else except back home.
i bought a piece of cake. it is stale. i will not return
Excellent address. The meals are superb, very similar to the tastes we have in Poland (Polish know-how at the same time )
Amazing selection of products, especially their selection of Haribo sweets from Germany. Sausage on a bun for lunch is a must if you are hungry for an authentic European experience.
If walking up the lively and upbeat Clarence Street in the Byward Market area filled with outside restaurants and bars permeating the street atmosphere with good music and good vibes is not enough, then stroll right on into Wedel and get yourself several touches of Europe. There are so many goodies and treats to be found here. Its unbelievable. The younger gentlemen, Martin, served me in such an upbeat and energetic manner that I forgot that I was only slightly wondering through the area to pass the time until my order from Kochin Kitchen was ready. I felt as if I was destined to be in this store, being mesmerized by everything. The candy and chocolate selection are amazing. There are truffle flavors, fruit flavors and even some flavors that adults may enjoy more than others. They are great items to give as tokens and gifts in treat bags while fitting perfectly into your luggage without any real hassle. The candies and chocolates were a hit with family and colleagues! Definitely will always stop in when in the area.
Their pirozhki with meat taste like theyve prepared them on a meatboard without washing it. I remember back in 2019, when a Georgian Jew used to own this place, the food was much better. Now it tastes much worse. Dont go there.
Perfect for finding some French products!
Huge selection of chocolate, mostly Polish
A very good store, it was nice to come in and buy something that you know, and something that you have been missing for a long time!!! I recommend it
Love this store. Its a must stop every time we visit Byward Market. If you enjoy German sweets at Christmas, Week is the place for you.
I love to shop here for European treats for myself and especially to buy special gifts for family and friends who are foodies!
It is a nice European deli store. Everybody is polite. The prices are good. Now they have prices listed on deli. I am getting there every week or two.
Friendly staff who make great lunches. Ive tried their meatloaf, schnitzel, cabbage rolls and all were excellent. These ladies deserve our support during the Covid lockdown. Go for takeout and you wont be disappointed.
A great place to purchase fresh take out meals, all handmade and natural ingredients, lots of interesting European products. Will definitely recommend a visit!
Friendly and amazing food
If youre ever feeling homesick for a European home, this is the place to go. Things are a bit pricey but sometimes its worth the splurge if you consider it medication <3
Great place. Amazing selection of east European food
Very nice store with excellent European food.
One of the best sandwiches I had in my life!! Get the pastrami, cured ham, smoked cheese, add pickles, onions, Lettuce, may, mustard and pepper. Bring some potato chips and put them in there for some crunch factor! I love little places like this. So authentic and cultural. Thank you for an amazing Sunday
Great service, good variety of European goods and wonderful lunches/fresh foods.
Amazing selection of European delicacies & meats + cheeses. We came for the cool products but keep coming back because of how awesome the owners and those that work here are!
Massive selection of European snacks, meats, and anything else you could need. Sandwiches and staff are also great.
Love it here!! One of the friendliest workers Ive met was here, plus its the place to get delicious drinks.
Very good food, best sandwich I ever had!
Great little shop and the shop keeper was so nice and helpful. Great cabbage rolls and cooked sauerkraut!
inlove!!<3 great snack, super well curated, thank you
I often shop here as they have products from back home that I cannot find anywhere else.
One of my favourite shops in the market; always love to grab a sausage to go for lunch!
In two months I will add 1.5 stars! You have to earn a lot to bake! Shalom or Shalom, as you prefer, Edek!
Great Eastern European deli, they never sell expired products unlike their competitors, the friendliest staff in the market in my opinion, and they always have a wide variety of products from the various countries in that region. A total hidden gem in the market if you dont know about them already
I was born and raised in Poland and immigrated to Canada 9 months ago. I came across this shop by chance today, and it felt like I was back home. The staff were incredibly friendly and the kie basa and schabowy that we had were delicious and authentic. 10/10. Serdecznie dzi kujemy za przemi a obs ug !
Disappointed on how the Sausages sold here were wrapped. 4 were put in a paper bag, and 2 were flimsily put in plastic. Having a choice of waxed or freezer paper should be common practice at ANY deli. Had to wrap them up at home properly to freeze
I went to this shop a few years ago and got decently priced sausages. Today I went there and was totally ripped off. 3.50$ per sausage, and they did not look fresh, but I got stuck into buying them. GO to Farm Boy much better fresher sausages.
Great selection of imported European favorites, from pantry necessities to stroopwafel and more! Very friendly and accommodating!
I used to be a regular of Wedel when I used to work for Service Canada back in 2012-2013. It was already a great Polish Demi and sold the best sausage rolls & saudrkraut in town for a very affordable price. 7 years later I took my whole family and we got some delicious sausage rolls again. Furthermore, the staff is si incredibly friendly and gave my kids some candies... So always a fantastic expérience then and now... Dzi kuj Ci!
;- yammy yammy!
Really great selection of deli meats and sauces. They also have some homemade prepared meals in the fridge such as cabbage rolls and soup! I haven t tried them yet but they look great. My brother got a donut from here - they have pastries by the cash - and he really enjoyed it
First time that we tried this place and we absolutely loved it! We bought two schnitzel sandwiches with sauerkraut and mayo and they were delicious! The store offers a wide range of European products which are unique and exclusive when compared to regular products available in the more traditional groceries. I will definitely come back and try out many other items available on their shelves or deli counter. Absolutely recommended!
I don t go to the Ottawa Byward often but make a point every year to purchase delectables for my Polish partner so he s able to reminisce his childhood at Christmas. Thank you for being open and it s important more now than ever to support small businesses.
Very good, will shop again
While I miss the old Sausage Kitchen, this place has excellent sausages to go on big bready buns with mustard and saurkraut. That will cost you about $6.00. They have lots of neat imports from Europe, particularly Eastern Europe. The service is always very attentive and friendly. Worth going for a sausage on a sunny or rainy day!
As much I miss the Sausage Kitchen (had so much more variety) - the owners are friendly and what sausages they do have are tasty.
A great place to buy European delicaties and hard to find Eastern European chocolates. A good selection of sauerkraut also and Polish pickles.
Friendly owners and good prices for deli meats, although I wish they would indicate prices, as you need to ask.
Friendly staff. But $9.56 for a regular sandwich and a canned soft drink is a bit pricey.
Wonderful food at fair prices with friendly service to boot. I live near the market and visit Wedels weekly. The best deli pork and bacon you will find.
A good place to visit in Ottawa with a nice, rainy weather these days..
This used to be the Sausage Kitchen, which, was very good. This place is equally as good but what puts it over the top is the warm, kind staff; how nice are they?!?! We stopped in durning a scavenger hunt for a snorker (sausage) and a malt beverage (non-alcoholic). Oooohhhhh, the double smoked sausage (snorker) were right some might good! I bought a bunch of sausage ends that were dry good, too! We found a paper note with Obama s image and took a pick, then the kind gentle and behind the counter took it out so we could take a better photo. We spied a 50 Escudo (Portugal) coin that was minted in 1986 and we got a pic of that too! Great selection of Euro-goods. Stop in for a great sausage!
Amazing choices! Polish candies are the best!
Cookies, candies, condiments etc. from Germany, Poland and other parts of Europe
We had a pleasant experience! Edward made us feel very welcome, we chatted with him for a bit and picked up a some delicious sauces and sausages.
Very friendly with lots of products from Europe!
First off, this place is a lot cleaner than Sausage Kitchen used to be. Not a dig against sausage kitchen, because I loved that place. I love the selection of food, and will be testing out their blood sausage tonight. I feel like concentrating on having better product rather than having a massive selection of stuff that sticks around on the shelf forever seems to be a better business plan, which they appear to have done. The staff is super friendly. Will definitely be coming back.
Great lunch options and they are way cleaner than Sasloves.
Very nice store filled with European products. Lots of interesting and tasty items here! Will definitely be back.
Good polish food
Go to for tasty and cheap lunch
