The Greek Souvlaki Shack in Ottawa

ADORE this place. Firstly, the food which is absolutely exquisite and can confirm it is definitely cooked European and Balkan style (of course, the owners are Greek). They cook the fries very differently than most restaurants in North America. The service is so nice, every time I ve come I ve always been greeted and treated very kindly and friendly. And the atmosphere is so enjoyable, the decor and design is overall very representative of Greek culture with some Ancient Greek mini statues and paintings of places like Santorini. They play Greek music and I pretty much Shazamed the whole playlist (I love Greek music). The prices are pretty good, they are literally the same as Jimmy the Greek but here you get actual restaurant service too!

I had half an hour before checking in my B&B, and stopped by for a quick meal without knowing anything about this place. It was a pleasant surprise. The young man who took my order was very friendly, and the chicken in my pita cooked to perfection.

An excellent place for a tasty, filling, and well-priced lunch. We came in as a large group, and their service was still very fast. The rice was delicious and very well cooked.

The Souvlaki Shack is a narrow restaurant that seats a surprising amount of people. The service was very friendly and the waiter took the time to explain the different meal combos. After seeing the giant platters at the table next to us, I opted for a single skewer pork wrap with no sides. We had dolmades and tyropita for a starter. My husband had the full size platter with one lamb skewer. He said the lamb was done to perfection! We really enjoyed the atmosphere and awesome hospitality. It was within walking distance of our hotel, but we also noticed its on a bus line too. If were ever back in Ottawa we would definitely visit again.

I was in Ottawa and stumbled across The Greek Souvlaki Shack and was so impressed! The service was lovely and the staff truly went above and beyond to make me feel welcomed. I was craving Greek, order Chicken souvlaki plate, delivered and received food poisoning. Uncooked chicken. Dissatisfied with the very blended taste and soggy potatoes. Had to use the air fryer to crisp the potatoes. Unfortunately I can t say anything good that I have tasted from this plate.

Amazing Greek food being served here! Its a family based business which makes it better than any franchise. Its freshly made to order. Reasonable prices and great service. The environment is a little tight in the restaurant. The seating it limited to roughly 20 people. I love the triangle feta cheese its a nice touch to the salad and its appearance. The chicken slides easily off the skewer. The potato is perfectly roasted with the right amount of seasoning. All in all, if youre craving Greek food, this is the place. The Greek Souvlaki Shack does an amazing job of catering to gluten free and dairy free customers. They even offer a gluten free pita. The portions were huge! I shared a meal with my mom, and my daughter shared with her other grandma, and we still had leftovers. Everything was delicious! We have family that lives in the heart of Greek Town in Toronto, and this was like stepping into a restaurant on the Danforth; very authentic. We have eaten a lot of Greek food over the years, but this has to be my favourite, especially since I could eat almost everything on the menu! Dietary restrictions: Gluten free fryer. Gluten free pita bread. Most items can be made dairy free as well.

Lovely place for a pita for a good price

a nice location in town, with a simple look and feel. it feels more like a takeout place that has tables than a real restaurant, but its not dirty. The food is great, you can get a big meat filled pita for below 10 dollars. no fries included sadly which is a shame. The beverage selection is also limited, would have loved to drink real Greek Mythos beer or Ouzo, but its not available. all in all, 4/5

Cook had no hair net and a major amout of hair on top of his head. Go take a look for yourself... Its open kitchen. So you can see when you walk in. Not cool of you want hair in your food. Inspectors beware.

Hands down, the best Greek food I ve had in Ontario! We ordered the beef, chicken, and lamb souvlaki plates and enjoyed every bite of it! huge servings, flavor packed and tender meat, tasty rice, potatoes that goes well with their homemade taziki, and wondeful greek salad dressing that completes the meal! I don t leave a lot of reviews, but loved this place!! Food was excellent! The platters are HuGE! I shared a platter with my husband and we still had some leftover. Excellent friendly service aswell! I will come back next time we are in Ottawa. Oh.. l appreciated the music selection as well ;)

I am a visitor to Ottawa, tired of the traditional hotel and or bar food. So I began walking up Bank St. and when I hit Cooper I noticed this little hole in the wall Greek restaurant. I went in and was very glad I did, the place was quaint, the service was awesome and the food was very reasonably priced and tasted phenomenal. I highly recommend you check it out. Looks like they do more takeout, but there are a few tables. I will be back in Ottawa in September and will be returning for sure.

If I could give more starts I would. Im not much of a fan of Greek food, However this place has changed my Mind. Not only is the food amazing but so is there service. My wife is pregnant and had a craving and they went above and beyond to make sure all of her needs were met and now she is comfortably laying on the couch very full and happy. Great food, great service, great place. I would describe this restaurant as a Greek diner. Dine in or take out. The diner itself is small with 6-8 tables, but clean and welcoming. We were greeted as soon as we walked in. The server was very friendly. I ordered a chicken souvlaki platter with a side of pita bread. Food prep time was moderate. Food presentation was good and the plate was full. The chicken was very flavourful and juicy. The accompanying salad, lemon herb potatoes and rice were also very flavourful. The pita bread was cooked just right and was seasoned with a special herb/spice blend. Food was priced well. Location is in downtown Ottawa near Bank St and was within walking distance of the Soho on Lisgar. Overall great experience. I would recommend trying this diner and I would definitely return to try other dishes. Parking: Street parking if youre lucky as there are many other restaurants and shops in the area.

Im absolutely hooked on their chicken souvlaki platter.

2024 Update. We returned found the food to be much more expensive, and found the quality and service to have degraded. A $37 meal which is a wrap a salad and a lamb plate with two skewers is now $55. The perfection in the cooking of the lamb and the quality of the cuts were both diminished. The lamb was no longer melt in your mouth, it was immortally chewy like a LQ steak cut. The lamb in the wrap was even worse, there were several cuts that were nothing but fat. The salad was different, could be due to the order mistake, but it was otherwise the same. Rice, potato s, and T. sauce was great. The server was stapling the bags shut, not like this trend was required, but it did take us a moment to detect that a salad was missed as part of the order. They fixed it np, but the stapling of the bag.. was that to deter checking of the order? Perhaps its me, but so far when I have received a stapled bag there s a 100% chance that something is missing. I hope to give this place another chance in the future but its an uphill battle. It ll happen though, this was a great place I hope I had only visited it on a bad day. Memories of many earlier visits when this was a 5 star location are below: We discovered this place during summer 2021. We order this whenever we re in Ottawa. The lamb is the best outside of Las Vegas, it dissolves in your mouth. Staff is friendly, fast service, consistent quality, and the price is just fantastic. This is one of the Jewels of the Ottawa takeout scene. It s a must visit.

The meatballs were absolutely incredible. They also offer takeout and are very accommodating for those following keto and gluten-free diets. Absolutely perfect! Experience was up to the legend! Not only the food is great and fresh, the service is sincerely awesome and friendly. I came a bit early to avoid the lunchtime rush At first I was a little concerned with the quantity of fried squid in my appetizer but the rest of the meal was so perfect that I m backtracking on this point. Staff is attentive and really brings this dining experience to the top level. Tried their Greek sour cherry pop and it was delicious, just as their Greek coffee in the end. The biscotti was made by the server s grandma. I normally never include photos of staff in my reviews but these guys make the difference so I want you to recognize them. Will be back for sure, thanks again for enlightening my day.

The whole team ordered some when we payed. The service is really good and fast! They kept refilling our water which I really appreciate! We were a big group so we reserved a table just in case because it gets busy quickly. I would definitely recommend and comeback again! Vegetarian options: Vegetarian souvlaki available! Dietary restrictions: Lots of options like low carbs plates or halal.

The chicken souvlaki dinner is what I had & it was very good, a tasty robust meal. The potatoes salad & rice were lovely the chicken was good but a tiny bit overcooked. Everything was seasoned well, even the rice was full of flavour.

The food here is amazing! Great portions and the cost is very reasonable! The only downside is that it is small so it can be hard to get seating. They are knowledgeable about gluten free! And they have low carb options! Theyre fantastic!

In my opinion, the Green Souvlaki Shack is without a doubt the best Greek restaurant in Ottawa. I crave it every time Im downtown or in Centretown. I highly recommend the souvlaki signature plates, which come with some of the tastiest roasted potatoes you will ever eat. Their homemade chocolate chip cookies are also incredible.

This place really know Gluten Free (The owners daughter has Celiac so most things on the menu are GF and they know all about cross contamination, etc). The service is out of this world, with extremely friendly and knowledgeable staff. I cant recommend this place enough!

Wonderful food and even more wonderful staff. Our server Miles went the extra mile to make sure our two families with kids were well served and attended to. He handled each client with warmth and respect. We loved the lamb and the kids ate their veggies!

This is, by far, the best Greek food in the city. Consistently so.

I have been there many times, mostly for take out, however, my visit the other day was different. Got to speak with the main guy behind the counter, who Ive never seen during my previous visits and he was a delight. Provided great service (in the language of your choice) and was in a great mood for it being a busy night. I ordered the lamb souvlaki platter, as per usual and as per usual it was great. I mean who doesnt love lamb? Also, they have these chocolate chips cookies that were really delicious and soft. Still doesnt beat their baklavas, but they were close.

Wonderful Greek spot with the most delicious lemon potatoes and selection of signature dishes! Plus the service is so friendly and accommodating! Highly recommend if you are looking for great dining experience.

I came especially for the coffee which was really good but a bit too sweet for me. The dolmades were CRAZILY DELICIOUS and the greek salad was nice and fresh. The waiter is so helpful and friendly. Overall very good experience

Discovered this place last night. Wow! For a critical eater with high standards (chef at home!) this place nails it! Food was very tasty - I had grilled calamari and the baklava afterwards was the best Ive ever had, even the coffee was delicious! Service was prompt, friendly and attentive. This will be a new fave place!
