Polished rooms in a grand limestone property with posh dining & a bar, plus an indoor pool & a gym.
The Chateau Laurier is a beautiful hotel. The furnishings are in keeping with the hotels architecture. We found the lighting was lacking. From the elevator where at least 2 light bulbs were out in the ceiling fixture, which made it hard to see the panel with floor numbers. Also, the lighting in our gold floor room was minimal. Brighter light bulbs would help .. especially in the bathroom where I found it hard to apply makeup even though there was a small built in makeup mirror. On the main floor the bar server was alone and we waited for at least 10 minutes to be served even though we were sitting right at the bar counter. She needed help. We acknowledge that the gold floor lounge was being refurbished & closed. Therefore I will not comment on the interim lounge. The location was perfect for a visit to the Parliament buildings, the market and retail stores.
The overall experience was great. The rooms are clean and up to date. Lobby and venue was excellent and well organized. Building and location is great for enjoying yourself in the hotel and exploring the city. The only complaint is parking. The parking was full and I waited in valet for over 30 minutes. I was two cars behind the last vehicle to get valet and nobody approached me to let me know it was now full... Someone had me move to let a car pass and at this point I didn't know it was full and they had the opportunity to let me know. I had to exit my vehicle with no way to back up (more vehicles waiting behind me) to ask for assistance to be told valet was full. At this point I was going to be running late for the event. I found parking off site but it would have been nice for someone to let me know once it was full so I didn't waste time and be late to my event. Other than that, the service desk and staff were helpful and friendly. One bar tender outside of the event cocktail hour was very rude to some of my coworkers for no reason. He went out of his way to harass and instigate him.
Having previously stayed at the Fairmont Chateau Frontenac in Quebec (5 stars, magical place and service) I was hoping for a sliver of that experience here, but it fell even short of that. When we arrived, the parking was a mess, and no attendants were there to direct us, leaving us with no choice but to split up and check in while my partner found parking at the Byward Market. Staff didn't help with bags, or to hold open a door. We were placed on the 1st floor in a room with a hallway and large bathroom, but the toilet shook when sitting on it, and there was a party below, which was loud enough to rattle our heater. When we called, we were told the party would be done in 17 minutes at 12, but by 12:30 we noticed it still going. The staff was able to find a room for us which was appreciated, but they didn't help bring up a new key or move any of our items. The street lights were also making the room glow a little orange, which we could not cover. Our new room had a beautiful view, but was much smaller and also dated. The bathroom felt a bit dirty as well, but we were happy there was no noise. Upon leaving, there were tripods and cords everywhere for photos/filming, and nobody was available to assist us. We weren't asking for much, just solid service, but unfietunately we didn't get the experience we paid a little extra for.
The same problems both times I’ve stayed - • long lines for check in. • (No priority check in, either?). • No hostess at the restaurant entrance to seat you. I had to wait a while for someone to turn up and seat me. • Rooms are tired and old. • Walls are paper thin. • Doors are very heavy so slam. • Bathroom is the smallest I’ve ever had in a hotel. Couldn’t recommend. Surely some of these problems are easier rectified - and judging by the reviews below, everyone agrees. However- I must mention the lovely man at the check in desk with the moustache. He is excellent.
Well located hotel and beautiful areas in the lobby till you get inside the rooms. Some of your rooms need serious renovation. You cannot stand on reputation alone when you charge the kind of prices you do but have rooms that are falling apart. My room had an old tub and parts of the shower that was coming apart. It also had cracks in the wall, I believe that’s where the cockroach in my room came from. Update your phones in your room, it’s hard to reach front desk or concierge with it. I felt that this hotel was so nonchalant about having a cockroach in the room that had to be killed and picked up, once there is one there are many. Emailed the manager with a picture and video & did not get any response. Out of respect for the institution I came from, I did not make a huge fuss initially. You need to do better. Having said that the stuff at the concierge & front entrance were very welcoming.
Welcome to the Fairmont Château Laurier! This stunning hotel, built between 1908 and 1912, was named a national historic site of Canada in 1980, thanks to its unique Château-style architecture that’s truly special. It’s not just a hotel; it’s an iconic piece of Ottawa’s history, having welcomed political leaders, film stars, and royalty for over a century. Stepping inside, you'll find a charming, old-fashioned luxury atmosphere that feels both elegant and inviting. Its fantastic location makes it perfect for exploring all the nearby attractions. You'll be impressed by the excellent service, spotless cleanliness, and spacious accommodations. It’s a must-see!
Pros: Just about everything. The epitome of modern elegance. Service was impeccable. From the ambiance when you walk into the hotel or your room, to the wonderfulness of the check-in to the deliciousness of the hot beverages in the cafe. Great night's sleep. Picturesque view. All perfectly on point. Cons: Difficult to find parking and the driveway in was chaos every time we went in. A $6.00 fee for room service seems excessive. $38.00 fries. eek. The punchline: Would love to do it all again...just not order room service fries.
Had an awesome stay, got a parliament view room which was lovely. Room wasn’t huge but very comfortable and clean. The staff was all so friendly and helpful. Will definitely be back! Great for a business trip because it’s not loud either. The hotel was fully booked while I was there and couldn’t hear anyone when I was in the room!
Rooms: Belle chambre, très spacieuse, lit très confortable. Rooms
Beyond fabulous. The room was exceptional. Ladda our housekeeper was very attentive. The lounge and appetizer bar was delightful. Breakfast was first class. We loved room #496!! Thanks again for the upgrade.
Walkability: Near the Rideau Center. Great for shopping. Rooms
Beautuful hotel. Our room was lovely until I noticed a clump of hair on the shower wall, white dirty substance on both bed boxes, burnt out light in bathroom and an electrical outlet that had something stuck in it. We had it rectified but not without a little battle with the manager. I feel he was not qualified for the position and inexperienced on customer service. He moved us to a room that was a down grade from what we had. He did not know it was smaller but thought we would be thrilled with the view from the small window. I asked for a breakfast and supper and he said no and nickled and dimed on a supper for us. After the small room switch, which we did not take, he said he would check his cancelation list to see if there was anything else for us. I told him he should gave done that before doing what he did. He wasted about 2 hours of our time trying to down play the issue and make us feel like our business was not important. We did speak face to face and he kept making excuses for his actions. I accepted the meal but told him that I am not happy. I have had great expectations of staying here but would not recommend it or ever stay again. I am as important as the next person but this hotel does not think so. Such a shame. Rooms: We had a spacious double bed room. It was not cleaned well upon arrival. Nearby activities: Ottawa has gone down hill. Byward market has very little in it. Lots of homeless around and dirty. We did not feel overly safe. Had people fighting at a Tim Hortons we were at and it became physical and we left quickly. So sad.
Wonderful service. Staff is incredible and go the extra steps for you to make you feel at home. Cant wait to come back!
Passing through OTTAWA we stayed two nights and then continued our visit to CANADA. The hotel was very beautiful with its architecture and Christmas decoration, however the rooms are very simple, in their original state and the bathroom finishes are very limited for the establishment (bathtub seals, broken bathtub, light switch room).
I saw some reels of the Elf Pub, super cute and adorable spot. Twice I waited in line for hours. I know it s not very large inside so not a lot of people can get in at once. Might be nice to have some sort of ticketing system or if possible, maybe there could be a larger space somewhere at the hotel that could be decked out and be a fun spot to go to. I went for a date night and it was a tiring and frustrating experience. Perhaps signs letting people know that wait times are very long could also be helpful.
Booked the gold experience and, as one would hope, when asking for a blue room as opposed to beige the teenager at the front desk wouldn t look at you as if you lost your marbles. Yes, some of us have lost dear ones to assisted living facilities which are largely beige and we don t want that recall when on vacation. Now , there are plenty of rooms at the Fairmont so I doubt being made to feel so inadequate and outright denied a room in any other colour palette was necessary. Additionally, the gold lounge is now a previous suite, due to renovations, yet nobody bothers to mention that upfront. The only positive aspect of the Chateau Laurier Gold experience was leaving.
We returned to the castle 25 years after the start of our journey of love as a couple, and with our daughter as a bonus. We went to Saturday brunch. Very disappointing for the price and the variety and quality. This does not make the Fairmont name worthy, incomparable with the Fairmont Montebello, Frontenac and LaMalbaie. Without emphasizing that there is a lack of significant maintenance of the furniture, the building, a lot of dilapidated things. For the service, all young people with a great lack of experience, they forgot my girlfriends utensils, I had to run after our server, they passed through the restaurant on two occasions with a large bin for transporting the trash throughout the room. , phew terrible just thinking about it. As for food, the extremely cold eggs benedict, a beef bourguignon without beef...we looked for it in the bowl, when transferring containers, the chef emptied the remains of the almost finished bowl on top of the new ones, it wasnt chic. ..and so on.
Deluxe two double beds was worth the upgrade with my family, room was spacious and comfortable it could fit 4 persons.
Walking by so stopped in to the pub. Wow. Walkability: 100 Food and drinks: All vertical good.
My mother and I stayed here last night in a 2 double bed gold room as we had tickets to the nutcracker at the NAC. Both of us were born and raised in the ottawa are and neither of us had a chance to stay at the beautiful hotel before. Especially around christmas time, it was a truly beautiful sight. PROS: the hotel is old and has so much character. Its considered a luxury hotel hence the price tag and aesthically it lives up to that. The staff all seemed eager to serve and attentive as well. I found our room a bit warm but we had 2 windows that opened with ease and brought the temperature more to my liking. I personally found the beds comfortable. The gold experience was lovely. The lounge was well equipped with all sorts of goodies from pastries, ravioli, cous cous, fresh juices, infused water, warm breakfast etc. You could probably eat all of your meals here during your stay and save the money on take out. You are also allowed to take any dishes you want back to your room. Food all tasted amazing. CONS: Valet was an hour to park and an hour to pick up your car. This system needs work, your clients time is valuable and the parking situation does not reflect that respect, especially at $60 for parking. All of the bell boys were very polite and eager to serve though. Our bathroom smelled strongly of urine. I notified staff a few minutes after checking in. At the time I was not looking to switch rooms unless this issue couldnt be rectified, as my mother has mobility issues, so I agreed to have housekeeping come and clean the bathroom. Housekeeping agreed there was a strong urine smell, she was in there for about 15 minutes and told us if the smell is still there in a little bit to notify staff. I was fine with this as we were leaving for the ballet anyways. Upon our arrival back, the smell was just as strong as before. I believe it was a maintenance issue like a broken toilet seal rather than a cleanliness issue, I notified the staff again a few minutes after our return, and we were moved across the hall to another 2 double bed room. This room also appeared to be a bit bigger, and had 0 bad smells! At $600 for 1 night, I couldnt justify having a pee smelling room. The staff were kind and moved promptly but I was not offered any kind of compensation for this experience. Im ok with that, but when a company does go above and beyond to rectify a bad experience without being asked... that sticks with you. Especially from a hotel with the historical and luxurious reputation like the Chateau Laurier. Upon check in I was told to dial 0 if I needed anything. I called 0 twice to ask where the gold lounge was as I was not given a tour, and to ask how the gold experience worked as that was not explained at check in. It rang for 2 mins each time with no actual answer before I hung up both times and just walked down to the desk. I was also surprised there was no spa. Water pressure in room was not great. Overall we had a beautiful stay and I would stay here again just for the eye candy of this beautiful building, but there were certainly some customer service opportunities during my stay. 4/5
Beautiful
Not worth the money
We stayed the night at the Fairmont Chateau Laurier for a Business Christmas Gala. Everything was excellent, room was fantastic and the property is beautiful. Rooms
The recent transformations have been successful and this is a plus for the establishment.
This hotel has a rather rancid odor that is quite pungent I would advise looking else where if visiting.
Valet requires cash. No tap or card!
TLDR: Hotel cares about other money making ventures besides its guests, parties shake the rooms above past 1am, not enough staff to help basic tasks. Arrival - when we arrived there were cars everywhere, floating out to the street. It was a complete mess with no order or staff to direct traffic and people. Instead of being able to check in and continue our car to the valet parking, we decided to split up and find parking elsewhere. It took 10+ mins just to get close enough to safely (not so safely) park the car on the street in the no parking zone. My partner carried all the bags alone with no help, there was no staff to open doors or a button to press to do so as well. I found parking in byward market and met him their later. Room - room was old and tired. Lamp was like the leaning tower of Pisa. Multiple rips in the carpet. We had a larger room with a huge walkin shower (great) but one window was completely covered in cobwebs. There was no suitcase stand and the closet couldnt open as it was jammed. There was also no fan in the bathroom. Noise - we were on the first floor and there happened to be multiple xmas parties going on below. You would think in a hotel theyve got this covered? Wrong. I could sing along to the music going on below our hotel, the bass was so loud our heater was shaking and thumping from the vibrations. We had an early morning and called down to the concierge at 11:45 to ask them to turn down the music. They assured us it would be over in 15 mins (arent there 11pm noise laws?) and they would tell the DJ to down. At 12:20 the music was continuing to pound and we couldnt hear ourselves think. I called down again and asked to be moved, they explained that there was actually two parties and this one didnt end until after 1am, they found us another room. There was no staff to assist us in moving our stuff or bringing up the new room key. The old room key did not work so we had to pack up and take everything in 1 trip, we noticed the entire first floor was affected by the party noises. No service. This room was alot smaller but had no noise as it was on another floor. The room was also dirtier (stains on the side of the bathtub that i could scratch off), we didnt care because it wasnt noisy. There was another party the next night which had to same noise level. I hope they didnt refill our room. Check-out - after our stay we went downstairs to check out and leave the lobby was being used for a filming event, stage lights and white curtains, speaker cables etc. As i went to the concierge there was nobody there to help...we were on the wrong side due to the filming. Again another instance of this hotel not caring about their guests but events and other money making platforms. Weve very much enjoyed our time at other Fairmont properties (Chateau Frontenac) and were expecting the same level of service, especially when we paid over and above other hotels for a positive experience. Rooms: Rooms are old, need updating and cleaning. Walkability: Very walkable to most places in ottawa
True to fairmont form perfect in every regard. Service was actually best I have seen in some time - just simply fantastic!!
That hotel is not a 4 star service was good beautiful historic but room are so not up to date run down not confortable need a good update to bad because hotel is nice book for 1 night left at 2am could not sleep bed was so uncomfortable when for diner at the restaurent food was ok but service was very long..over all the room need a good face lift.. Rooms: Need TLC!!
I would give zero stars if I could. The staff were neither polite nor friendly. The room was outdated, and the bathroom was not functioning properly. The valet parking system at this hotel is the most impractical and unhelpful I ve ever encountered. Everything at this hotel is overpriced, and the experience does not justify the cost. I ve stayed in many hotels, but this was by far the worst. We will never return to the Fairmont Château Hotel and cannot recommend it to anyone. There is nothing special about this hotel it was an utterly disappointing experience.
Stayed at the Chateau Laurier this past weekend. The hotel was beautiful and clean, rooms were comfortable, and amenities were easy to find and use. The staff was extremely welcoming and helpful. Would stay again.
I found my stay a little ordinary and the food very ordinary considering the price. I am rather disappointed
Great location and staff! Beautiful restaurants though not a lot of vegetarian options. Rooms
The room s soundproofing could be improved, as noise from the neighboring room continued until 1 a.m. I reported it to the front desk a few times, but unfortunately, the issue wasn t resolved.
Honestly the parking here is a disaster. The hotel does not allow you to park without valet - and it is mandatory to pay for it. We ended up waiting 85 minutes for valet to get our vehicle - we approached valet multiple times to ask about the status of our car. They were apologetic but I was appalled at the inefficiency of this so-called luxury hotel. My family and I will not be coming back.
Super nice place. Great experience right in the center of Ottawa and the bilingual aspect is also really very pleasant. I definitely recommend. Just 2 comments: 1) the negative point of our stay was the cradle for the baby included. It was so deep that I had to stand on tiptoe to place my baby in it. Thanks back. And yet I measure 1m69. Can be adapted with a standard bed (because less chic hotels offer this type of standard bed which does the job) 2) room service. It took 40 minutes to receive utensils. Rooms: Rooms Top and enough families Big! Nearby activities: Bywalk, canal Curtain etc Walkability: Close to everything
Awesome hotel. Rooms show their age. Service was good. Food was excellent. We had room service and used the restaurant in the hotel. The history of the building is amazing. The photography on the walls explains the rich history. Our view was of Parliament and the Rideau canal. Easy walking distance of Byward market, and several museums. The structure was beautiful. Fine wood work was every where and some of the windows looked original to the building. The hotel has strong ties to the Titanic. The founder of the hotel lost his life on the Titanic.
I had a terrible experience here during high school prom that I wont forget. The waitresses explicitly skipped over me when serving the rest of the table & when I voiced my frustration, they mentioned that they have a ladies first policy - one that obviously was not made known to me. Soured my experience for the rest of the night, as it made me feel excluded at such a young age. I am still upset simply just remembering this. I sincerely hope that you have removed this policy since that time, or at the very least make that policy clear to your customers and guests ahead of time.
Came for lunch to remove stress after a minor parking incident and make me better prepared for a financial meeting with my main bank and potentially the CRA. Noteworthy details: My lunch was healthy. All staff was supportive. I felt secure and better after a stressful oops. Thank you Chateau Laurier
Stayed in town for a wedding, the Fairmont was walking distance to the venue. From check in to check out, our experience was impeccable. The text based service was prompt, and afternoon tea at Zoes was a highlight. Only point of note was that valet parking took us an hour to get our car back on Sunday afternoon Walkability: Centrally located, walkable to byward market, parliament, National gallery
Fun place just to hang out.
We went back there to have a drink, really beautiful decor
It was great Food and drinks: Not bad
Rooms need some tlc... Food and drinks: Restaurant and lounge are great. Tea is a must do. Rooms : 3/5 |
Exceptional hotel and service. Absolutely amazing. Rooms: Rooms are older in style but that goes with these theme of the hotel. Its one of the oldest structures in ottawa Walkability: Right in the centre of ottawa! You couldnt be more central
Food and drinks: The food is 10/10 Service
Historic hotel with excellent proximity to downtown, the business district, Parliament and other Ottawa sites. Room was comfortable and very clean, and received a free upgrade to a suite with Parliament views. Facilities were easy to find and entirely adequate, including the gym and pool. Also has a bar open late for evening drinks.
Fabulous staff greatly enhanced the experience
I am here for a fashion show. Too few seats for the guests :(
A wonderful place to stay, with friendly staff and central location.
Best hotel Ive ever stayed in. Very fancy and the rooms are big and comfortable. Th location is the best part because its right next to Parliament and everything you would want to see
Apart from the exterior look and the location, there is nothing extraordinary about this place. Entrance hall more than ordinary. The queen bed room is tiny, the bathroom had a month in the shower. Fortunately the service is extraordinary, the people very attentive. They changed our room to two beds, the room was at least a standard size. Theres not even a jacuzzi in this hotel at $500 a night including a $40 buffet lunch, its ridiculous. There was practically nothing to choose from, not even an omelette, I would be embarrassed in their place! I was expecting smoked salmon, refined dishes, something special, a chocolate fountain for example. Nope. A really basic breakfast, no choice, everything was ok without more and mostly cold. Eat anywhere else and it will be better. Parking is $60 per day and is not included. I wont come back. Rooms: The room with only one bed is really ultra small. The beds are comfortable but the furniture is mismatched and dated. Nearby activities: Walking distance to everything
Was staying at this hotel for my 21st birthday and ordered a cake for $60+ and received a small platter of 2 chocolate covered strawberries, a micro brownie and 2 micro macarons, does that seem like the vanilla cake that was ordered? I was then told it s a tech issue on their end but it was ordered 1-2 weeks in advance. They do have a good location but everything else is outdated. Staff was surprisingly rude too, it might be because i m a student or i m young and they treated me horribly when i was asking for clarification at the front desk, which is unacceptable on all grounds. Noteworthy details: horrible staffs
Fantastic service, elegant rooms, Nearby activities: Mall, parliament, city Hall, park.. Rooms : 5/5 |
Extraordinary experience. Good service. Delicious food (the breakfast crepes ate to die for!!!). Wonderful location near all touristic sites. Definitely worth it. Tip: to save on parking, use the City Hall parking lot nearby.
We have been visiting the Chateau Laurier for over 10 years and it has been our hotel of choice in Ottawa but no longer. They have gone downhill for a while now. We were supposedly upgrade to a room that was so dated it was bigger but bigger we did not need. Then there was a dog in the room beside us that was barking when we were moving towards the adjoining room door. Quite annoying. We reported it but they said that they are pet friendly and when they came to check the dog was no longer barking so they did not do anything. Then when you request your vehicle their service standard is 45 minutes. You cant request it any faster than 45 minutes. It might come faster but they cant guarantee it. They only have one restaurant Wilfrid very nice restaurant but we had to ask to have our glasses of water filled up. Service was very slow and cost $600 for 4 people. Needless to say we feel that we can do better somewhere else. The Fairmont is not was it used to be. Very disappointing.
In downtown Ottawa sits this beautiful historical building that contains so much story. The hotel is comfortable and charming and the service is impeccable.
Beautiful hotel. Unfortunately, the walls are paper thin. I am sitting in bed writing this review while I listen to a man having a loud conversation with 2 other adults. We drove 2 hours from the US to celebrate my birthday in Ottawa and instead of a luxury nights sleep in a 4 star hotel I am now reduced to writing this frustrated review. We paid to stay here and Im asking myself why we even bothered to leave home where a quite nights sleep is guaranteed. My advice. Stay somewhere else. Rooms: Paper thin walls. This hotel is a hard pass.
They were over an hour late to get our room ready, we were supposed to recieve a notification text that never came, and the concierge told us that check in time is when the room is ready when I mentioned that we were well past check-in time. Does that mean that check out time is when were ready to go?? We got a coupon for two free drinks that still cost us $25+tip because they cap the value at $15 and dont tell you that at the front desk. The room was okay, I liked the shower, and they were willing to give us a late check out to help make up for being so late upon check-in but we werent able to take advantage of the extra time. We stayed here to enhance our weekend experience downtown at the NAC rather than going home, but I dont think well be returning or ever recommending this place.
Beautiful hotel. Great service. Nice staff.
Great location and a very historic place to impress any traveler. However: Unfortunately both the restaurant and the bar (Zoe s and Wilfred s) were closed for renovations (so no evening drinks or snacks) even though the website says the renovations were done In other countries/cities hotels of this class have 24x7 room service. Here the room service ran till 10pm.
I booked a one-night stay on the app using 6000 points and pre-paid the balance of $141.89 -- so my final bill at check-out should have been only $37.12 for drinks at Wilfrids. Instead, I was charged a mysterious $218.85. I called the hotel and was put on hold for 12 minutes before someone came on to tell me there was nobody available but I could leave a message and someone would call me back. Nearly 3 hours later, no one had called me back so I called again and finally got someone to fix my invoice. Unfortunately, I have a non-refundable stay booked at this hotel in December. I will be checking my invoice before leaving the building!! Rooms: Small and dated with paper-thin walls. Food and drinks: Dont expect to simply walk into the lounge for a drink... you have to wait for the approval of a very sour-looking hostess. Not welcoming at all.
Excellent stay. Majestic, historic hotel, and very well located. Very friendly valet, very friendly receptionist Xavier, fantastic breakfast! Sound insulation in the rooms is a little light. Magnificent place
A very average hotel. We wanted to visit to feel what the hype was about. Took us forever to find valet to park the car, which was way over priced. The waiting line for check in was another tiring task. The rooms felt like a miniature basement room - CRAMPED, the bathroom was PETITE/TINY. No light in the closet. If you have a large suitcase, you might feel like you don t have the space to place it anywhere. Hardly any outlets to plug your phone near you. Overall, it felt like this should now be a museum and not a PRICEY HOTEL.
Rooms are very dated, manager on duty had terrible manners and was extremely unaccomodating.
Stayed at the Fairmont, woke up this morning for a shower and the vent in his ceiling was leaking. Immediately informed the maintenance/front staff. And the best they were able to do was put a giant bucket in the middle of my bathroom floor. This was noticed at roughly 6:30-7am local time, by the time the bucket was brought up to catch the dripping ceiling water, it was 8AM. Checkout was at noon. Had no choice but to checkout at 8:30AM. There s no way, anyone was able to function in a bathroom with a giant trash can in the middle of the floor. Do not stay here unless you enjoy leaking ceilings and poor service from staff.
Queen w/view. Walls were extremely thin. Woke up 3 nights in a row due to neighbors making noise (different neighbors each time). This was superbly annoying. I was there for a week, but the fridge was fully stocked with items you had to pay for, so I couldnt put any leftovers or drinks, and there was hardly any drawer space so I couldnt unpack. Flip side, all of the staff were very kind, and the building itself was insanely beautiful. Amenities are very good. Great location.
Been coming here from last 10 years but never felt like this ever, I believe my words won t do enough justice to the pathetic service we have received. No reply to calls regardless of how many times we called. Asking for water was one of the most disturbing experiences, money isn t a problem at all I believe all here will agree no one who knows the legacy of Fairmont will ever question paying any amount for basic amenities and specifically being someone myself who has travelled to a lot of Fairmont hotels within the country and outside. I believe it s the staff and the management that has to take actions or else it will be hard for people to stay here.
Overrated, the pool is so cold we couldn t swim at all, the main reason for booking was to enjoy my birthday and we couldn t, it s so bad
Great location and beautiful hotel. Great staff as well, very kind to help us change rooms when we had noisy neighbours and housekeeping is very attentive and sweet. Rooms were nice but need some renovations and repairs. Great shoutout to staff members Michael and Cynthia! Overall great stay and we love Stewart!
The hotel is tremendously beautiful and in a very great location to explore the city. The staff are welcoming and hospitable.
Amazing location! Walking distance to everything! Nice size room with very high ceilings however, a little change of decor and queen size beds would be much better. Seems to be short of catering and valet staff. Nearby activities: Whether its parliament, the ByWard Market, a multitude of restaurants and activities, everything is nearby.
Aww I went there. Dream hotel to stay .
Window is broken in room in a way that it is letting in wind and every once of noise on a relatively quiet street. It s like I m sleeping outside. Said they have no other rooms. Either you should have back up rooms or not allow this room to be operational. They offered no concessions just I m sorry. All this after waiting an extremely long time at the front desk as there was no one staffing it for guests to check in late at night.
Very beautiful experience.
Amazing location. The rooms and hotel definitely live up to their reputation. Staff are always willing to go the extra mile to make sure your stay is memorable.
Superb stay, with the chance to enjoy the Fairmont Gold. Nothing to complain about the services
Travelling with a tour company and had pre arranged dinner for 7.00pm at the restaurant. Dreadful service, slow and took over 2 hours to receive our meal. Others in the tour group left before eating because they had not received their meal at all. Room needed attention. 1 teabag for two people in the room. One cake of soap, no shower cap and no other vanity items supplied. For the price paid absolutely not recommended. Rooms: Our room was adequate although no light bulbs in the lamp. No vanity items in bathroom and no appropriate supply of teabags for two people.
Looks super fancy and the room was nice. There is a loaded bar fridge. I personally prefer an empty fridge that i can use for my leftovers lol. But to each his own. Housekeepers extremely polite and helpful. Large bottles of shampoo etc and I personally really liked how they smelled. The beds were fairly comfortable. In a room with 2 double beds there is only the one nightstand and maybe 1 empty drawer by the TV, so if there are a few of you staying multiple nights, there isnt enough room to put your stuff away. There is a piano on the mezzanine (I think thats where it is?) That area also looks super bougie but the piano needs to be tuned desperately.
The rooms were nice and the location was beautiful. Issue was a party of four of us came there to celebrate my fiancé s birthday. His friends got a couple of rooms, so we decided to eat at the restaurant in the hotel. My fiancé s friend got the charcuterie board, but it didn t have cheese. We were all confused as usually that s what should be on it. We have been to several places. The waiter came and asked how it was and I told her he didn t like that food selection so he didn t eat. He only ate the soup previously ordered. She insisted she would go to the kitchen and fight staff to get him cheese on a charcuterie. We all waited and after about ten minutes the waiter comes back and gives an excuse saying my fiancé s friend should have specified he wanted one with cheese. Then the lies began as she claimed she would go back again and fight with the chef. She first asked if my fiancé s friend wanted to have cheese added gratuit or she could bring cheese for $25 more or a new one with cheese for $35 more. My fiancé s friend chose the first option. They brought him brie that was unbaked, and a small piece of some other cheese and tried to charge my friend s fiancé an extra $25. I told her did not like the whole charcuterie board, as the options looked cheap and did not taste good. Then she pretended to go back and fight the chef more, and when she approached our table for the last time, lied again and said the cheese was on her. Pretty sure she already said it was free the first time, but we just let it go as this seems to be a practice. Yikes, don t think we will be eating there again.
Very nice reception, especially Mr. Faneste gave us very good advice, very friendly and patient. It was very helpful for us that Mr. Faneste speaks German. All the best to this gentleman. Udo&Brigitte from Germany
I was underwhelmed from the second I arrived to the second I checked out early, and I checked out early because I was so unimpressed. The GPS takes you to a parking lot that is not serviced, but theres no sign that says its out of service. Theres a gate with a Hut and a parking ticket machine, that says press the button for a ticket. If you press the button it says press another button to call for assistance. When you hit that one nothing happens. After sitting there playing with the machine I called the number for the hotel and in answering service somewhere else picked up, then they transferred me to the front desk and it continuously rang, no one picked up. This was not during their busy season, this was a random Friday in late September. When I told the front desk this story he rolled his eyes and said oh yes, we are aware of the issue. Excellent, typical French Canadian by his name, he knows, he does not care. Went up to my room, its about 22 square feet, its got a tiny tiny toilet with a round seat and a $12 bemis seat cover from the hardware store. Its not even soft close. The toilet paper is so thin its see-through. Room service was slow, The doors stuck, the lighting in the hallway was unkempt, the elevator door opened twice at each floor, the whole place is poorly managed and does not focus on customer service or ease of use. I ended up checking out a day early so I didnt have to spend another night at this overpriced hotel.
Historical Building amazing location and beautiful scenery/surroundings.
Expensive but worth it. In heart of the Market, history, architecture & acess to great food.
Great service and a charming building. But I wouldn t say it s worth the hefty price tag if you plan to stay for long as the rooms are a bit dated.
Probably the most beautiful hotel in Ottawa, a glamorous castle from La Belle Époque
Small fridge and microwave is a must for me.
Beautiful hotel. EXCELLENT service. CLEAN. We booked in as gold guests. EXTRA services provided were amazing. Highly recommend. Rooms: Beautiful quiet rooms. One comment . No tubs and very small bathrooms. Very lovely and clean, but just not what we anticipated. Everything else - FABULOUS !!!!!
The receptions here are always excellent. I liked the roast pork.
Food and services was amazing. Rooms: Great house keeping staff! Food and drinks: Great food
Faced issue in the parking my car. Not much help from the hotel staff. Forced to park in public parking. Rooms are cozy and clean. Nearby activities: Location is in the heart of the city.
I want to commend the hotel for its superb service especially to attendant Michael. He is very attentive and courteous. My daughter has special needs and wants everything organized and so we would sometimes ask Michael to assist us with something and this means a lot to us. I highly recommend him and we are currently staying here on the 2nd floor.
Be careful about the service valet they moved my antique nissan 300zx turbo z31 1986 without warning me ( when the valet told me the car will not be moved and would advise me if they have to.). The morning my car was not where they said it would be left. My car got front damage, but the manager, Younes Benzahra, said with arrogance that he moved the car and nothing happened to. He says that my car is just an old car and that the dommage was old ( like if I didnt know my own car ) Big miscommunication between the different valet managers. Younes benzahra says he can not do ANYTHING about the situation and that nothing happened to my car when he moved it without advised me like he was supposed to. I do have a picture of my car before the drop-off at the hotel, where we can see that my car is in perfect condition. Thinks twice before bringing your car at this valet.
Very nice stay at the Chateau
The guided tour with Zak was very fun and Interesting, the concierge also was really great and friendly lots of good people working there.
Once of the nicest of the Fairmont collection in Canada. We opted to stay downtown and chose the Château Laurier. Proximity to everything was excellent. The food, service, room and amenities live up to the brand standards. For us it was business and pleasure. We thoroughly enjoyed our time and look forward to returning. Its worth noting we had a problem on our first night and the leadership, in first class fashion, solved our problems with the remaining four nights delivering flawless value
Very good place and the location. Food is great
The Staff is extremely friendly, and the location is amazing. The room we stayed in however was disappointing. Cabinet doors wont stay closed, the bathtub glazing was coming off, the paint, the wall paper even the door lock just didnt look like it had been done by the kind of craftsman you would expect at a hotel with this kind of prestige and reputation. Rooms: Rooms seem like they were updated by a land Lord who wants the rental photos to look good.
The most disappointing stay I have had in my entire life was here. The halls smell like cat piss, the door to our room needed an extra push to be opened (because they are wooden old doors that seem to be never maintained), the bed was stiff like a concrete block and there is no insulation between the room which we figured when the people from the room next door arrived around 4 am sounding drunk loud and we couldn t avoid hearing their love making. The bathroom was super small and things like cabinet doors and toilet cover started to fall apart as soon as we used them. Such a scam and such a horrible dingy place that only looks good from the outside and turns into a South American cheap hostel once you re in it
No bottle water in the room three days in a row? How cheap are you?
Love love love this hotel!
Love this place great brunch Food and drinks: Excellent Rooms : 5/5 |
All our hotels were prepaid. This was the second hotel that accidentally charged us for the room again. Keep an eye on what gets charged to your CC. Hotel is beautiful. Service was good. We had a Deluxe King bed room and it was spacious and lovely.
Great location but pricey. Buffet breakfast was disappointing. Scrambled eggs very overdone, French toast was stodgy, crepes were rubbery like they had been frozen. All for the bargain price of just over $50 including tax.
I recently stayed at this hotel and was quite disappointed with my experience. The hotel is old and in dire need of maintenance. While I understand the desire to maintain an antique style to provide a historical experience, this should not mean we have to endure the smells, inconveniences, and lack of upkeep reminiscent of the past century. Specifically, my room had a leak in the bathroom, which resulted in a strong and unpleasant odor of urine and feces permeating the space. This was extremely unpleasant. Additionally, I was very disappointed with the parking situation. I was not provided with a parking space at the hotel and was directed to park in a public lot five blocks away for several days. This was highly inconvenient. The hotel also lacks laundry services. The laundry service that picks up clothes charges per item at very high prices. Even three-star hotels offer laundry services, so it is surprising and disappointing that this hotel does not. The carpets in the rooms are dirty and urgently need a deep cleaning. This makes it unsuitable for families with young children, as they often play and drop food on the floor, creating an unsanitary situation. I must acknowledge that the location is fantastic and the experience is unique, but this does not overshadow the poor experience I had. Overall, my stay was far from satisfactory, this was not what I was expecting initially.
Beautiful hotel, lovely rooms and excellent service! Special thanks to Room Attendant, Michael Perez, who greeted me with a smile each morning and made sure my room was immaculate and restocked every day. Highly recommend this historic hotel!
My husband and I had our wedding ceremony and reception at the Chateau Laurier. We had the best wedding experience we could have imagined, and we are not usually prone to gushing. We had a smaller wedding, only about 60 people, but the service and the planning process was impeccable. In addition to the overall quality of food (amazing) and decor and surroundings (beautiful and elegant), you dont realize how important the details are, but we found out that in planning a wedding details are of highest importance and can make all the difference in the quality of experience. Our experience with Erin, Goran, and the whole team made for the best day of our lives, and in the lives of our (elderly) parents and children, mostly due to the people who helped us so much!. We will treasure these memories forever! Thanks a lot Chateau Laurier team! Rooms: Spacious, clean, comfortable Safety: No concerns, all great Walkability: In the best location in the city Food and drinks: Cuisine-level execution and upscale ignredients. Noteworthy details: Amazing venue for hosting events, very obviously the best in the city
Valet parking very good. Well located. Beautiful outdoor terrace although slightly expensive.
We stayed at Chateau Laurier for one night. We purchased a gold-level room which offered access to an associated lounge and provided continental breakfast. Upon arrival valet parking was easy and efficient, this is something I would recommend despite the addition cost. Check in was on the slower side - despite three working agents it took roughly 30 minutes from arrival to entering our room. The room was a standard king-size hotel room. It was generally clean (the carpet and baseboard was stained in one area), with clean linens and towels. Where we did not feel the Chateau Laurier delivered was on room comfort and bedding. From 1000 to 0100 there was music playing with loud bass that could be heard in the room. In addition, the HVAC system seemed to smell of cigarette smoke periodically through the night. The linens had the distinct smell of hospital linens - we would have expected a different type of laundering. Access to the lounge was definitely a plus. There was a well stocked bar with reasonable priced alcohol. In the morning, the lounge offered continental breakfast which was by far the best continental breakfast we have had. There was an excellent mix of fresh and warm breakfast foods with great variety (fruits, pastries, eggs, bacon, sausage, granola, bagels, smoked salmon, cheeses, etc.) Overall a reasonable stay, but below what would be expected at a hotel of this magnitude.
Great location. Rooms: Ottawa River view Nearby activities: All the attractions are at walking distance
Afternoon tea wasn t good as before. Super disappointed. Seat: close to 2F Elevator View: nothing. Really nothing. Just can see Elevator. Food: few pieces of bread and taste old. I m sure chef changed. Price: Expensive Personal suggestions that if can not provide high quality products and services. Just stop to do it. Don t set up at 2F corridor. Really disappointed do you guys know what afternoon means? How to enjoy it? Can t find any of value of afternoon tea in here. Oh ..my bad. Why should I expect your guys. But service was good as usual.
The general manager was very rude, at first I thought I was dealing with someone knew to the job but than he introduced himself as the manager; didn t own up to his mistake and also told me something else on the phone and when I arrived he just apologized and said there s nothing he can do about it and threatened to call the police to escort me even though I didn t threaten or seem aggressive, but then I went to the Westin across the street and been staying there once a week
Staying at the Fairmont Laurier felt like stepping back in time to a moment in history. The hotel s stunning old-world decor only added to the charm. The customer service was exceptional staff were incredibly prompt, attentive, and eager to assist. Their attention to detail ensured that my stay was not just comfortable but genuinely enjoyable. The on-site restaurant offered excellent service and delicious food, further enhancing the overall experience. With large windows and a serene atmosphere, it was the perfect spot to take your time and dine. The hotels location couldnt be better, right in the heart of the city, making it easy to explore. The castle-like architecture of the Fairmont Laurier is breathtaking, adding to the grandeur of the stay. Having traveled to 30-40 countries, I can confidently say this was one of my better hotel experiences (and the cheery and friendly staff were an integral part of that). Highly recommend!
Comparable to a motel, old, dirty, smelly, gross. Terrible valet setup, awkward bellman, bugs in small room, ant in bed. Room given was terrible view and small for price, cramming in there upsell snack&drink items with no fridge. Half the reviews left on this are bogus and cant believe such an establishment is riding on its name and messing around with Google reviews putting fake reviews. Honest normal person leaving a review.
Amazing service, great location. Special shout out to hotel manager, Matthew, who was tremendous help with our accessibility requirements.
Wonderful hotel in the original railway hotels - great history and great location. We loved our stay. Walkability: Close everything for walking like Byward Market, parliament and the O-Train transit.
We are going back with joy Noteworthy details: Proximity to Byward Market.
There s something truly magical about a wedding at the Fairmont Chateau Laurier. From the moment we walked in, we knew we were in for an unforgettable experience. Taylor Fillipids, our direct coordinator, ensured that every need was met, and we truly felt like we were experiencing a Fairmont wedding. The level of service we received was nothing short of royal. The staff was incredibly accommodating, always helpful, and such a joy to work with. The menu selection was to die for, and they did an excellent job coordinating with our other vendors on the day of the wedding. Chateau Laurier went above and beyond to make sure our wedding was the absolute best it could be, and we couldn t be happier with our decision to have our big day here.
It was an awesome experience from check-in to check-out. It shows that they know their customers and they care about them at every point. Rooms: Rooms are very spacious and very well maintained. Walkability: It s close to all the activities. Walking distance to Byward Market, Rideau Center, and many other places.
My First and Last experience at Fairmont Château Laurier I understand the hotel has history but the rooms are outdate. a strong smell of musty smell in the room. The bed was uncomfortable . We had a king size bed and the mattress had to dents were people sleep;. If you try to move you will literally fall back in the dent . The room is very basic nothing historical inside. If your looking for history the hallways and the lobby is the most history you are getting. I stayed in multiple hotels across Canada and this hotel is one of the worse. I payed half the price and got a way better room. At this hotel you are paying for the Brand .FAIRMONT CHATEAU LAURIER. not for the accommodation. The service is very slow. Check in was roughly about 45 mins. when we left we requested the car and it took roughly about 45 mins ago. Very unorganized. After we got the car we had to wait another 20 mins just to get out of the drive way.
Unfortunately this is not luxury. Yes it is old but that doesn t mean it needs to be dirty. Cobwebs all over the ceiling and under the desk. The door to one of the rooms needed to be kicked to open because it did not fit. Along with other doors in the room. Service was unprofessional at times. The talk among staff was filled with swearing and discussion of other guests. I d recommend the Westin, across the street. Updated and a real level up. Fairmont has given up on this location.
I have shared my review via the hotels survey. I hope someone from the customer excellence team have seen it and working on my suggestions. Thak you CFL Rooms
Excellent place & Excellent service
A very impressive hotel with a great location. The reception and check-in was very friendly. The rooms are a bit old but still well maintained and very clean. The rooms are very noisy, which was due to the intermediate door to the next room. If you dont have quiet roommates, this can be a restless night. How can we recommend the hotel? Be sure to bring your swimsuit and try out the 1912 saltwater pool.
Absolutly loved my experience there. The service, the rooms, the view, the chateau. Everything was perfect and beautiful. Nothing to say except I loved it.
Take it from someone who has stayed at 10+ Fairmonts The Fairmont Laurier has its charm, but the experience left much to be desired. The rooms are dated, with a musty smell and rust in the washrooms, making the stay less than comfortable. While some of the restaurants were closed for renovations (which look like theyll be gorgeous), the outdated rooms made it hard to justify staying overnight. That said, the service was top-notch. We were kindly given a room upgrade and a bottle of champagne, along with a lovely card to celebrate our stay. The food and views at Le Terrasse were fantastic definitely worth a stop for a meal, but I wouldnt recommend spending the night. The main floor retains an old-school charm, and it s beautifully maintained, but unfortunately, the rooms don t match up to the overall appeal. If youre considering a visit, I d suggest just stopping by for the food and views rather than staying overnight.
Hotel was dead! We were 45 min late leaving.
Very nice hotel. The staff is helpful and attentive. Lives up the reputation. Rooms: Rooms are very nice. Nearby activities: Walking distance to the parliament buildings. Close to other tourist attractions and tour buses.
Amazing Hotel, service and rooms.
Large historic hotel. To visit even if you dont have a room there. Numerous reception rooms. I always ask myself When did we stop being able to make buildings so majestic? 5 star service. Rooms: LOTS of rooms. Reasonable price for this type of hotel but unfortunately no Wow! Small room with television placed on a piece of furniture to the left of the bed and not at the foot of the bed. Beautiful view of the parliament and a small canal with locks. Nearby activities: Several historic buildings within walking distance. Parliament, Supreme Court, Bank of Canada, hugs, official residence of the Prime Minister, museums, restaurants and much more. Walkability: Well located though be careful. When leaving the hotel, if you go left, you will enter the world of homeless people and there are a lot of them. Market Place used to be an interesting place. If you like homeless people, pigeons and the smell of cannabis this area is for you. Otherwise, turn right when leaving the hotel. Food and drinks: Overpriced for no reason. With taxes and tips $98 for lunch for two people with a good but not extraordinary buffet. The day before forty dollars for (2) martini which tasted too watery with a very ordinary olive. No magic. Noteworthy details: $60 for 24 hour valet parking!!!
This hotel lives up to its name! The room was really nice and spacious, with a corner desk and a sitting area. The location was great, steps away from all major attractions including Byward Market and parliament, etc. The only issue was it was difficult driving in and out and valet parking isnt always guaranteed. The service was generally pretty good but check-in and check out had a bit of a wait. The lobby was always busy with different events every day. Definitely worth staying again but might not be for people who want a quiet stay.
Charm and grandeur of a bygone past in the public spaces. Great convention hall. Surprisingly small rooms but nice and quiet Location close to museum and Rideau canal could not be better. Rooms
We went here for high tea and it was absolutely magical. Great food and extensive selection of teas. The only downside was that the regular tearoom was under renovation so we didn t get the usual view. Still lovely tho!
Youre paying for the fact that its an old building and historic. If youre after location and old architecture, then stay at this hotel. Otherwise, youre better off at a 4 star hotel nearby as the rooms in the chateau are cramped, no ventilation in the washrooms, the drop off/valet is very small and hectic. Its also extra if you want the view (facing parliament hill).
I recently stayed at the Fairmont Chateau Laurier Hotel for a couple of nights, and it was totally worth it. I highly recommend getting a room with a view of the Ottawa Parliament, it s stunning. While the room felt a bit small, it was clean, nicely renovated, and the bed was incredibly comfortable. The hotel perfectly balances a historic charm with renovation updates. You can really feel the history throughout the property, which is very well maintained. The location is unbeatable, right in the heart of downtown Ottawa near government buildings. Prices are reasonable by today s standards, and the service is top-notch, the staff was friendly and incredibly helpful. I ll definitely be recommending this place and coming back! Rooms: Small but comfortable they have everything you need Walkability: Ottawa parlament and many restaurants and bars
I recently stayed at Chateau, but honetly, it doesnt live up to the Fairmont Luxury. I was expecting a Grandeur room, but the hotel is old, the room was smelly, probally becuase of the old carpets. The hallway seems spooky. It doesnt give you a luxury and comfort you expect for. The room was also very tiny, for the price i paid and i felt claustrophobic in the room. I have stayed at far better five star hotels with less pricing. Seems like it is just a gorgeous exterior building, but they forgot to renovate the interiors. Service was okay. Not much complaints about it, but I dont think i would stay here again , I would rather choose westin or different hotel closeby for a comfprtable and pleasant stay.
The service is warm, you feel at home. The beds are divine, and what about the windows that open. A pure happiness.
My husband and I booked this hotel for the start of our mini-moon and we had a great time. The location is very convenient and central to many attractions. The staff went above and beyond to accommodate us and provide great service. I lost my contact lenses after housekeeping cleaned our room and was a bit upset. While they were unable to find my contact lenses, Jessica from the concierge provided us with a complementary breakfast. The outdoor restaurant provides a fantastic view of parliament. We got something sweet every time when the staff found out it was our honeymoon. Staff was professional and polite at all times from the doormen to housekeeping.
Excellent service from the valet parking team. Enjoyed our breakfast and appreciated the pleasant service from Madam Nicole. Dixon family from Toronto. Rooms: As per the room. A microwave would be an excellent option.
The castle is beautiful and the location is spot on. Next to the parliament and to many restaurants/shops. Rooms are old, hallways are smelly and the air conditioning was very noisy in my room. Staff is number 1, always ready to help and respectful. I find the price of daily parking $50 too high.
We opted for the Gold Experience and boy was it worth it. From the moment we stepped into the wonderfully decorated classic hotel we had private check in, private lounge for breakfast and 5pm canapes. Every inch of the hotel was photograph worthy. I cant wait to come back next year! The bonus was it was steps away from Parliament and the market!
I m forced to put a star just to send this review. This hotel is the definition of catfishing the pictures and the the outside look like heaven the inside is hell. But despite everything the location was good. Rooms: For the price we payed this hotel is not worth a single penny from it s service to it s rooms and everything in between. The staff belatedly brought our car after we ordered it in advance and wait over 2 hours for it. The room is so bad from the fact that all the air conditioning didn t work at all, to the fact that they asked us to pay extra to bring up another fridge that didn t work when we got there. The lobby chairs are stained and smelly. The hallways are not vacuumed nor clean at all.
The rooms were not clean and the bathroom was terrible. The sofas had stains and the hallway swelled bad. The only good thing about the hotel was the location. Rooms: Pictures provided in the website are not true
Outdated place with seepage on walls, archaic floors and corridors. Gives a haunted look. No parking spots left and we had to park a kilometer away. Bell boy was absent for luggage. Rooms are meh. Washrooms just ok as well. Will never be stating here again.
While it is a high-ranking hotel in Canada, unfortunately, in the middle of summer, the A/C did not work properly. We set it to the lowest temperature, but the room temperature did not get lower than 25 degrees Celsius, and the humidity in the room was too high. The A/C system was too dusty as well. After notifying them four times, they told us that the engineering team are coming to check it. Finally, at 11:30 p.m., they brought this high-tech fan.
For the price and reputation I expected better service. Electric cars picked up 48 hours in advance were not charged. and we werent even warned. breakfast too expensive. pleasant staff. limited cleanliness.
I visited Fairmont Château Laurier as part of a haunted tour, and it was a fascinating experience. The hotels grandeur and historical significance add to the eerie atmosphere, especially with stories about its rumored hauntings. The tale of Charles Melville Hays, the original owner who perished on the Titanic, adds mystery. Theres also a very nice café inside that serves excellent coffee. An interesting highlight was seeing the oldest public swimming pool in the basement, adding another unique aspect to the visit.
Location is wonderful. We paid extra for a view & loved the bay window that we lucked-out in getting, fabulous view, probably a once in a lifetime :) Breakfast NOT included. Parking NOT included, valet parking only costs $60 extra per night! :( Arriving/unloading & loading/departing is chaotic. The valet guy never checked to make sure that the car I was taking was mine! Swimming pool is half salt & is nice, couldnt find the showers - the lifeguard wouldnt direct me, he suggested that I jump straight in without a shower. Room was a bit cramped with a family of four. No ventilation in bathroom. If its location that youre after: the location is excellent. Stay here again? Probably not since were unlikely to get such a fabulous view again.
I ve stayed at many fairmont locations and I will not come back to this one. The room smelled horrible and the curtains didn t even close. There was a bunch of hairs all over my pillow and sheets, the tv was constantly turning on and off, not to mention the snack bar charged me for eating something i didn t eat. Try not to touch the snacks that they give you in the snack compartment becuase there s touch sensors so even if you don t eat it they charge you. The food was okay, but way too overpriced, I went with my sister and dad for breakfast and it was $100 when the food wasn t even that good. the pool is nice but the shampoo and conditioner in the pool showers isn t the same brand as in the rooms, le labo, which is one of the things that fairmont is known for like in other locations. The good thing about this hotel is its location, most things are within walking distance.
Very nice hotel, unfortunately the staff doesnt match it. The room was very spacious, but the bathroom is in need of renovation. The restaurant although has a good menu, the staff is nice... But a bit slow. Everything takes a little longer... I found the Fairmont hotel in Quebec much better.
Very nice
A very old and impressive Hotel lots of history there Destiny worth the extra money to stay there youre right in the middle of everything within walking distance of lot of the museums The Night starts just down the street if you wanted to do the bar thing Flux plus the locks are right beside the hotel where the boats move down the river lot of original equipment there from over 100 years ago Very friendly spot the hotel staff was very good
A beautiful old dame, full of character.
We decided to have breakfast at the Fairmont Hotel, expecting an exceptional dining experience, but were disappointed by how basic the meal was. I wouldnt recommend visiting for breakfast unless youre already a guest at the hotel, as it doesnt live up to the standards one might hope for.
Truly a magical place. The architecture transports you to another era, and the service is impeccable. The staff is super attentive, the rooms are comfortable and well maintained. The view is breathtaking. In short, if you have the opportunity to go, go for it, you ll love it!
Pros: Hotel was beautiful, staff was incredibly nice, and my room was very clean. Cons: Parking was very confusing with minimal info online. Valet was full so they directed me to a parking garage instead, which ended up being closed (700 Sussex). I drove around in circles for half an hour before I could find something. Also, I had booked a Parliament View room specifically, but was told I had been upgraded to Gold Floor upon checkin (without explaining the perks or what that meant). My room was on floor 3 facing the opposite direction. Not a big deal since I m only here one night in business, but pretty annoying. I assume they bumped me so someone more important could have the nice room I paid for.
Very nice Hotel. Very nice atmosphere. Very good service. The staff are very attentive to our requests. I recommend it to everyone for a nice stay and close to all the services of museum activities, bus tours, and boats, and restaurants. Very nice stay for me!! I had a lot of fun Rooms: Very beautiful and very clean, and very pretty. Nearby activities: Everything is very close. Safety: Great Walkability: Alright Food and drinks: Very good
Only has double beds if you book more than 2 persons. Rooms and Hallways gave me the overlook hotel vibes. Great location tho
Great central location in Ottawa. Dated room, to be completely renovated (furnishings, doors, bathroom fixtures). Average service, nothing extraordinary. If I were to return to Ottawa I would opt for other hotels, always central.
I stayed at the Château Laurier for one night last weekend, after winning a gift certificate at a local charitys fundraising event several months ago. Over the years, Ive had meals, drinks and afternoon tea at the Fairmont, but this was my first overnight stay and I really enjoyed it. All staff were friendly, helpful and polite, the historic swimming pool on the lower level was a relaxing place to go for a swim, and the hotel room I was given (room 256) was spacious, comfortable and had a nice city view of the Senate Building and downtown Ottawa. I ordered in-room dining service late in the evening and the food arrived quickly and was nicely presented. The Fairmont is a wonderful historic icon in Ottawa and even better that they support the work of local charities!
Very well located and with a lot of history. Parliament is just Crossing the street. Service is as expected in the Fairmont
Well located / good bedding / 30 min wait to take possession of the room....
08.14.24: I was charged ~$500 without my approval due to a mistake by a Fairmont staff member. Despite sending two emails, making four calls, leaving a voicemail, and being assured that someone would get back to me within the hour, I never received a response. It was only after I had to report the transaction as fraudulent to my bank that I received a brief email apology. I m shocked by how this situation was handled. I expected a hotel of Fairmonts standing to take the fraudulent use of a credit card more seriously and to offer appropriate compensation for such a significant mistake, which I had to resolve on my own. 08.15.24 edit: I received a response to my review in less than 24 hours. If only the department handling fraudulent credit card use was as efficient as the one responding to online reviews but I guess Fairmont considers that less important
Service is ok but slow. There are only 2 people on front desk even when there are 21 people in line. The checkout line took 30 mins. The employees are very nice. The rooms? Well different story. Basic. Old. Not what I expected. Obviously an amazing location.
I stayed in room 266 with 2 kids on Aug 15 and here is my honest take on it. Firstly dont get fooled by the pictures. The property is super old and rooms are dirty. So my issue is the room was full of spiders and mosquitoes the beds were dirty and uncomfortable. The washroom fixtures are either not working or in bad state. The stay was super uncomfortable. I came back with a back and neck pain. I just stayed for one night but wanted to get over it ASAP. On the flip side the staff is very nice and friendly the architecture is beautiful and the location is nice. With the location and architecture Fairmount should really up the game by improving the rooms standards.
Amazing place
This hotel was a delightful addition to our 3 week road trip this summer. We had a 2 double bed room and it was pretty large compared to other chains. Knowing we were in a historical building as well was very cool, and if youre on the main floor be sure to walk around and look at all the cool plaques and pictures they have on the walls showing some of the historical facts about the hotel. The staff here was very friendly and we got a great price through their website instead of going through a travel website. Id highly recommend spending at least one night in a building that figures into part of our Canadian history!
It was always a lovely experience in different Fairmont. 1. Great location, not only convincing but good view. 2. Great service: - I checked in much earlier since I arrived early; always provided early check-in if they have room available - updated my room for a better view; - Amelia remembered my room number, helped me book my breakfast and high tea and sent me messages to keep me updated; - another lady at the front desk was also lovely. This is Fairmont! 3. Had a few Meals in Fairmont, recommend the buffet breakfast. And their BlackBerry/blueberry juice Something I hope that could be improved: 1. They provided more tea bags before, but now only four :)( they told me that I could ask for more even though I didnt) 2. The sheet always moved after I slept 3. They had handbags, for clothes or something else that customers needed to carry on. Now no. Maybe they would like to do more for eco-friendly :) One more thing for reference: There are some rooms with a small window. Rooms: Very good, but a bit lower on the height. Nearby activities: Nice location, within walking distance to restaurants, The famous market, pubs, and those places worth visiting. I choose Fairmont when I do not want to waste of time thinking about where to stay in a city in Canada. They are always great location. Safety: Food and drinks: I like the breakfast they provided.
Amazing place, cool views. Great valets. Friendly staff. Was nice to be able to walk to parliament hill. A nice treat for the family.
