Heart & Crown - ByWard Market in Ottawa

We celebrated my friend s birthday at Heart & Crown last night, and it was a night to remember! The blonde bartender in the back dance room, where they had live music, went above and beyond to make my friend feel special. Even though I didn t catch his name, his kindness and extra effort really stood out. It s the little things like this that mean so much, especially for those of us who don t go out often. Huge thanks to him for making the night unforgettable! Great vibes, amazing service, and fantastic music highly recommend!

First time visiting from Texas, this place is great. Finn our server was solid. Knew his drinks and was incredibly personable. We will be back!

I ordered a salad that was quite plain. Hardly any dressing, a few sad chopped veggie sand wilted greens.

I had an excellent bacon cheeseburger, and they have a decent selection of ciders. The raspberry dessert was also really nice. Our original server messed up my order (hence the 4 stars), but when I pointed it out she was quick to fix it. Our table was also next to the fireplace, so we were extra cozy tonight.

Amazing environment in the most beautiful place in Ottawa, the Bayward Market, a location with a bibrant selection of restaurants from around tge world.

Nice staff but the food took 45 minutes to come out, which is a problem with kids. Staff were really nice though and food was good once we got it

I have tried different options if the menú and Im always positively surprised on how tasty the food is. Ambience is great If you want to enjoy a little evening afternoon beer with friends. Definitely my number 1 spot to go in the city. Service is always great servers are kind and attentive at all times.

Very warm welcome and nice setting with a pleasant interior courtyard. Friendly and smiling waitress. Despite our request, overcooked hamburger... tasteless meat, cardboard, frozen fries. Good for a drink, no interest in eating there.

Absolutely do not recommend this place if visiting from Quebec. Was assaulted and thrown by one of the security guards (Thursday at 1:30-1:40AM) after showing my ID (Passport) when just wanting to go inside to grab my Fiancé and this was after going in prior to security showing up later in the evening. (I ll say the Bartender earlier on in the evening was amazing and didn t discriminate us when we were carded) The manager refused to allow us to view the security footage they claimed to have and then proceeded to headlock and throw my fiancé out as well. The defensiveness and trying to rid of us quickly when attempting to flag down a cop driving by shows the liability they held at hand. We ll be contacting Law Enforcement and making sure this gets handled the way it should be. This experience has left me in utter shock and immense amount of physical and mental pain as a previous victim of assault and abuse. We ll never be visiting again. (Update - reached out as requested below yet no response)

Had a great time at the Heart and Crown this weekend. Darren our server was fantastic and a good sport. We were pretty rowdy. Fun times!

Dont come here if you want gluten free food..

We went on a Friday evening before the rush. There was plenty of room, including on the patio. Service was friendly, and the food was very good. One of us had chicken strips and the other had a burger (the one with whisky sauce). Everything was tasty and hot. The fries (called chips here) were nice and crispy. We walked by again later in the evening (after 11 pm) and there was a long line up and loud music. So if youre not into that, make sure to go earlier.

We four, from Edmonton, had Irish Whiskey stew, dumplings, veggie burger, fries & Irish spice bag. EXELLENT FOOD! All made better by the pleasant and BRILLIANT service of PIERCESON. Great pub ambiance and, when next in town, well be back. Tom Love, Edmonton Food

I met an old friend for lunch at ehe Heart and Crown last week - I ve been there countless times and I ve never been disappointed with either the food or the service. Gif selection of beers as well. If you want straight up good pub food and cold beer in the market, hit up Heart and Crown.

The staff was quite busy, so it made services very slow, unfortunately.

Great food, great atmosphere. I havent had such a tasty dinner in years. The fish was fresh and flavourful, and vegetables were perfectly cooked. The waiters are very friendly and fast. It was an overall great experience. Highly recommended. Parking: Paid parking in the streets nearby. It is usually busy, so it may take a bit to find a spot, but the restaurant is well worth it!

Nice atmosphere on Sunday night with a musician playing guitar. Burger and Irish Stew were fantastic. As for the fries, great thick cut and perfectly cooked.

INCREDIBLE dinner here tonight. We have our dog which makes things challenging for dining sometimes. They have an expansive deck and are pet friendly. They sat us in a beautiful courtyard which was quiet and perfect for our little guy. We were greeted by a real pro of a waiter, Pierceson. He was super professional and brought our dog a bowl of water. Drinks came out fast and the meals we not far behind. All the food was homemade and fresh. 10 out 10!

Felicity was my server and she was so attentive and helpful. She made the experience worth coming back for.

Great atmosphere

Lots of waiting even though there was no one there. We asked to be moved to the interior courtyard, a nice, quieter place compared to the one leading to the street, ordinary music, nothing Irish for sure. Huge but really huge disappointment during meals, it certainly does not justify the price. Everything was cold but really cold except the fries and of poor quality, 0 quantity, nothing unfortunately. Decent service. A tourist trap.

This place is deserving of the 5 stars. Both the food and drinks are on point, Top 5 best poutines I ve ever had. The service is fantastic and the atmosphere is great. Good location. The only thing is that you can only watch a game on one large TV and the sound isn t great. But still 5/5

The server Darren was amazing and the food was out of this planet ! The best fries to have indeed and the Short Ribs and shepherd pie is to die for. Definitely worth the visit and you should to,we will be there obviously on weekly bases

A once fun place, is now garbage due to its service, and lack of professionalism. Hostess forgot to give us menus. Waiter forgot drinks condiments and refills, kitchen forgot side dishes, and to start a meal. Music was all covers of actual songs, the live act was late. Broken glass on the floor with staff laughing you cant blame me for this one.. what? Bathroom had a lot of piss on the floor. What a horrible spot this has become. Over priced too. To top it all off, it wasnt even busy. Avoid this spot like the plague.

I am compelled to give this place a one-star rating, as there isnt a lower option available. Unfortunately , this is the only instance in Canada where I felt racially profiled. I had been enjoying an evening with friends, sharing a few drinks late into the night. As we were among the last to leave, a security guard approached us and said, Make sure you pay your bill before you leave. I got a call that you guys haven t paid. I am not accusing, but I just got a call saying you hadn t paid. We insisted he contact the server who attended our table, who confirmed that we had indeed paid. Both the server and the security guard apologized, yet it was clear that the security guard had not received any such call. He had approached us solely based on his prejudices. Despite his apology, his demeanor was far from remorseful. We felt deeply humiliated as he singled us out, assuming we were the ones who hadn t paid, while a group of people left uninterrupted. This experience left a lasting negative impression, tarnishing an otherwise enjoyable evening.

Bad service. Took an eternity to get our drinks and they forgot to place our order. Probably worst experience in ByWard Market.

Very disappointed today. I was served Cole slaw that had gone bad. The food service was extremely slow and I have felt horrible ever since. The chicken on the salad was dry and the hard boiled eggs were dried out- -The waitress confirmed the slaw had turned bad and paid for our 3 pops. This place used to be the life of the market- she was apologetic but I was shocked a manager didn t come by ..just me? My husband and son also tried the salad- ugh ..

5$ a person to get in... thats fine.. but to sit there for 20+ min with no service. Having to go to the bar counter to get what you want, then they ask you to pay after you buy your first drink (with tip) didnt sit right with me at all.... definitely made me want to not buy anything after... then they crank the music to an 11. Im hard of hearing (LITERALLY, hearing aids and all) and the music was ear piercingly loud. Not to mention the Stella was flat... is this a bar or a club

We just want to bring attention to the preparation of the meals, the care and presentation that is done with every meal. The kitchen staff, take pride in the food they prepare and it makes the serving of these meals a pleasure for the serving staff. It is no wonder that the staff are always happy at work. Good food and drinks

The fish and chips here are fantastic, but my experience was marred by poor service. Without asking if I was finished, the server abruptly brought the bill and cleared my dish. This unpleasant behavior ruined what was supposed to be a nice dinner with my partner. Great food, but the service needs significant improvement.

First and certainly not the last visit here. Very welcoming. Great beer recommendation. Dede(sp?) is a first class bartender and hostess. Next time will try the menu

I liked this place for the first time, but not for the second time though. Too long waiting for being served. And I do not know if it s the policy but changing the beer in a cocktail without asking permission is definitely not a sign of a good service. Plus being charged more for it. Ordered Shandy got changed for a different alcohol, without questioning if I will agree on it. Won t recommend this place anymore!

Spent a little time on Canada Day here and had a wonderful time! It was busy and service was a little slow - but with a great live band, we had fun. Ordered the Irish Spice Bag and wow, this was so good! It s definitely spicy, but really good. Kid-friendliness: There s a good variety on the kids menu (that they can colour on) and the warm donut was a highlight for both kids!

Solid spot. We had dinner here on Saturday June 29th. Service was fantastic. Started with the spinach dip--it was great. Waitress suggested we get a side order of chips as there were three of us. Great recommendation. Our mains were the seafood chowder, summer salad and burger. All great. This is a solid spot worth going to.

Great experience, a very good atmosphere for this pub, a small interior courtyard allows you to enjoy the sun sheltered from the noise of the street. They refill the coke on request and the fries are delicious

We had a good meal at Heart & Crown and the beer was delicious. We were warmly welcomed and served very well. Prices are reasonable for Ottawa.

There was a weird bathroom smell in the restaurant which was a bit gross but the food was ok. Portions were actually quite large. Service was good.

Bro, Beer is same everywhere, but your service ducked, I came at 08:55 and there was no server till 09:32. Then another wait for minutes for just Beer . Please make it fast next time.

Great place to watch soccer games, there are televisions everywhere, nice atmosphere. The beer is great too. haven t tried the food though, so can t say anything about it.

So there s this one security guard Mike. Holy jeez. What a guy. My friends were getting hit on by this older man who was being creepy and Mike dealt with it right away and made sure he couldn t go back. He was super kind and professional. Mike needs an insane raise. Go Mike!

Ordered our meal and drinks, waited over an hour and told got told our food is up next , I understand it s busy but waiting over an hour for 2 burgers and chicken tenders is brutal

We keep returning to the H&C because of the excellent service, the great selection of food and the variety of beverages. Some of the staff that have impressed us for their attention and attitude are Nicole, Justyn, Jason, Alyssa, Carter and Melissa. They like their jobs and working at the H&C and that says slot about so many things

Horrible service, went on Friday night. They charged us cover charges, we were just standing waiting for a table and the waiters were just walking around doing absolutely nothing. Empty tables were not being cleaned. It felt so run down. Every waiter was just looking at the other direction moving past people and not really doing anything. Dont recommend going here at all. Spent money just to go in and out

That was one of the weirdest experiences Ive ever had! The service was awful, I felt like I was being avoided!! I used to be a regular years ago in university and then played gigs on a regular rotation. The place has gone so downhill. Outta here!

If you are just a small group, then it might be a good place to go. The place is huge but not ideal for big groups. There is minimum spends if you are bringing large number of people for drinks and mandatory gratuity will also apply.

Bad service, nasty manager and no sense of humour bartenders. Will never go back. Spent a lot of money but was very disappointed with the staff.

NO COLD BEER !!! And the server didnt even care as this seems to be that standard here. Absolutely atrocious

The staff, food and service were always great in my experience, but lately there s been a lot of older men touching girls without their consent. Be especially careful of a short black haired man holding a rose. He was dancing way too close to a lot of girl groups and was very persistent. It s sad because my friends and I love the live music experience, but we can t fully enjoy it without being heckled constantly.

Its a pub. If thats what you are looking for, this is where you should go

I had an absolutely horrible experience in this bar. Last Friday my friends and I went to this bar to celebrate a matter. As we were drinking and laughing (what is expected to be done in bars), a weird and rude lady (she was black but I don t know her name) approached us claiming she was the manager of the bar (I highly doubt she was the manager, but some random freak) and she would kick us out if we didn t stop laughing and being loud. Then she proceeded to verbally harass me because I was the only lady in the group and I think I appeared easier to harass?? She threatened she would kick me out multiple times even though I was literally just sitting there!!! Everyone else was laughing and enjoying their time there but she decided to harass our group and I think it had everything to do with the fact that we are not white! I am sincerely disgusted and displeased! I will never go back to this place

The incident happened around 1:20-1:40 a.m. Please review your security footage for your second floor exit onto Murray street for Sunday February 18th from 1:00 a.m to 1:20 am when my friend and his wife were physically and verbally assaulted by a woman bouncer wearing a security vest . My friends were completely passive and your overly agressive bouncer attacked them and threatened to leave them out in the cold with no coats. Is this the kind of experience your want long time patrons to have at your establishment?

Other than a homeless person coming inside and asking for money, it was a nice visit with live music.

Best place in Ottawa for wings. Jason was an awesome host with recommendations from the menu. IPA beer was exactly what was needed to compliment the wings. If I was a local this would be my pub of choice every time.

Great live music with The Garden Variety Band. They had tons of different spaces to drink, dance, or sit and chat. Good age variety.

Went on a Sat evening for dinner and they wanted $25/person cover just to go in and get a table...no food or drink, just to get in the door. (And yes, well aware what cover charge means.) Still ridiculous though just to go in and buy their food.

The food was great, specifically the chicken tenders and fries. It wasnt overpriced, and the price was worth the quality for sure. The waitress, Ellen, was really polite and kind, along with the other employees. Definitely coming back!

Was visiting Ottawa last week and heard from some friends that the dance floor was really great here. Went for the live music but stayed for felicity s amazing service! She made us feel so welcome, was there whenever we needed her and I d say went out of her way to ensure we had a great experience! Would definitely come back

Was out and about for another singles mixer, at the heart and crown. Had the garden salad and the blackened haddock with succotash and wild rice.

This is a beautiful family run Irish pub which is well managed, clean and safe. This is the perfect place to bring your friends, family and business associates. At night, there is live music and dancing. Karaoke on Wednesdays!

Too overpriced and the tip mandate for a group of 8 is daunting due to the already high prices. Would not recommend unless you just got your paycheck

Worst experience

Great Irish pub! Not only was the food and beer great, but the service was top notch. Jason served me all night, and that has to be some of the best service Ive received. He catered for all my requests. Not only that but the live music was amazing, very talented singer who brought a really good atmosphere into the place. I will be back! Vegetarian options: Veggie burger was unreal.

The Heart & Crown has the audacity to serve their $22 spinach dip with an insufficient amount of corn chips and will charge you a dollar extra when you inevitably must ask for more. Good service tho, will be back.

Amazing vibe

Pub-style layout, which I am less of a fan of, but the curried chicken was awesome and served hot, and the wait staff was great. The waitress was happy to support weird drink requests.

One of the biggest fish and chip portions I have ever seen! Good quality food at a fair price in the heart of a touristy area, which will exceed your expectations. If you have a big group, this is an ideal location as it is huge with many smaller areas where you can enjoy a section to yourself.

Pretty disappointed in our food. The parm wings were soaked in oil that we didnt finish it and the spice bag was nothing special. I loved the live music which made the atmosphere. Drinks were great and finally a bartender that serves a Guinness the right way.
