Fratelli Kanata in Ottawa

We were asked to wait 10 minutes, came back, waited quite some time for anyone to notice us and then fairly rude waitress told us to wait again , then we were told to wait another 5 minutes while people who came after us and also didn t have reservation got a table right away. No thank you

Great looking restaurant with a lovely atmosphere! Our table ordered different pasta dishes and pizzas and everyone loved their food!!

I think their pasta came from a frozen package basted on taste. I ordered the gnocchi pomadoro. So saucy. So much leftover sauce once the little dough balls were gone. The Parm they spoon on your pasta seems to be from a bag and not freshly grated - youll know the difference in taste and texture. Service was great. Servers were attentive and kind but not like asking you anything more than what youd like to drink and eat sort of hospitality. Atmosphere was nice. Dark, busy, comfortable booth seating, music, televisions for some reason. Ordered the fried calamari, which I normally never do because its always, always, always from frozen. Probably the better item to eat while compared to a main pasta dish this weekend for me. Fried food typically cannot fall flat because everyone likes fried food and it hides the lack of skill in food prep nicely right in front of you. Hearty portion size - good for sharing. Aioli included in a ramekin. I dont think I will be back because of the cost, overall taste satisfaction of the main, as well as the generic overall experience. Ill stick to making my own gnocchi, opening a can of sauce, and opening a bottle of wine for less than $80 including tip just for one person.

I recently dined at Fratelli and while the experience was a mix of highs and lows, there were a few standout moments. The salmon dish was absolutely exquisite perfectly cooked with a delicate balance of flavors that left a lasting impression. It was easily the highlight of the meal. On the other hand, the pizza was a bit of a letdown. It lacked the flair and flavor I expected, and overall, it felt quite boring. The crust was bland, and the toppings didn t stand out, making it feel like something I could have easily made at home. Service was another mixed aspect. While the waiter was friendly enough, I was disappointed that they didn t offer us bread until after our main courses had arrived. It felt like a missed opportunity to enhance the dining experience, as a small gesture like offering bread early on would have been appreciated. Overall, the restaurant has potential, especially with the fantastic salmon dish, but there s definitely room for improvement in both the pizza and attentiveness to small details. I d return, but I ll likely stick to seafood next time.

Decent food, but the five waitpeople who served us were very cold and impersonal. Made us feel as though they werent interested in our business and didnt care about getting a decent tip.

My partner and I did date night here on the weekend. The ambiance is really nice and we enjoyed our wine and pizza appetizer. However, the pasta and salad dishes we ordered for our mains were completely tasteless. My partners Caesar salad quite literally didn t taste like anything and my seafood pasta was no better. I sent my pasta back and requested another, which unfortunately was no better. Our waitress was very inattentive and unapologetic, so we then proceeded to wait 20 minutes be asked if we wanted the bill, plus another 10 minutes waiting for the machine. It was an extremely disappointing experience and we will not be back. Would like to add that we have been to the other location multiple times and not experienced the same issues.

Amazing food. Super fresh and very flavourful. Love homemade pasta. The lightest fluffiest lasagna i have ever tasted. It was great and the desserts were delicious and homemade too. Our 1st time but we will be back.

A really nice atmosphere but the service was quite slow. I got the Chicken Limone. It was SWIMMING in oil and the Alfredo sauce on my linguine was broken. I couldn t eat it. The best part of the meal was the 2 pieces of bread I got, the Prosecco, and the creme brulee I had for desert. Probably might go back and get something different but my tummy will need some time to recover from the trauma.

The place to go to have a memorable dining experience with family and friends. The atmosphere is lovely and everything on the menu is delicious. Jazz is friendly, super knowledgeable and makes you feel right at home. Bravo!

Food was great. Service was average our waitress didnt seem very interested in actually serving. When we got our bills she spent the next 10-15 minutes chatting with a coworker at the bar before finally asking if we needed a machine.

Good food, a bit pricey, salad was almost $25.

We ordered 2 pizza and I accidentally left my left over pizza like 3 slice in a box and realised it 30 mins after I called them and they told me they threw it out. I wasted my money and all she said I am sorry such bad customer service I heard good things about this restaurant but wont go back.

The fish soup had plenty of ingredients (prawns, shrimps, mussels, squids, scallops, fish) and was certainly filling. Towards the salty side and should have got a sharper white wine to pair.

Great pasta. My girlfriend and I went here as a sporadic decision and it was a really good decision. Great pasta, the interior and atmosphere looked very nice, and the service was really good.

In my opinion this restaurant is quite mediocre to disappointing at points. I made a reservation for eight people and we were seated at the back of the restaurant in a very high traffic area. We were bumped into several times. The floor was wet from the AC dripping and I got dripped on numerous times. Our server was so stone-face and even quite melancholic at points. The food wasn t necessarily bad but not worth the price. One dish was sent back for being far too salty. Overall, overpriced for what it is and don t bother if you re a group over 4 people.

Amazing service from Jasmine, and the food was great! The owner also came over to chat with our family and treated us royally. Highly recommend!

Dined with a party of 8, unfortunately they put us at the big table near the back of the restaurant. Atmosphere: It was incredibly noisy, and just the fact that it was closer to the kitchen made the person at the end of the table almost in the way of the wait staff. Logistically, it was a table that was enormous for no good reason, and difficult to hear each other. The bigger issue is that we couldnt move the table, and Id really suggest putting two medium size tables together, and getting rid of the big table all together as we couldnt organize the seats better where everyone would be comfortable. Service: Waitress I felt was nice, but it was very busy and I felt she had her hands full. She definetely needed some help, and because of the volume she had, I thought the service was slower than it should have been. Food: I had the chicken limone, and while others in my party had pizzas, salmon, and veal, Id say 7 out of 8 didnt feel like it was anything special. Only 1 of us thoroughly enjoyed the veal specifically. My chicken Limone had good taste, but it felt like it was presented like a chicken fillet that had been hammered on an anvil in a soup of sauce. Didnt look very appetizing, but I was ok with the taste. I would have expected a bit better presentation from an upscale restaurant. To be fair, we didnt order any appetizers, and when I was watching orders for other tables they looked very good.

A gem of a restaurant serving delicious and authentic Italian cuisine. Seasoning is always on point and the portions are generous. Prompt and friendly service and the atmosphere is wonderful.

Dinner with family at a nice low key restaurant. Friendly service, excellent food. Doesn t get better than that. We will visit again.

The patio had great atmosphere and lots of tables. Only downside is my same problem with most patios, and thats unavoidable car traffic beside you. It still doesnt take away from the experience of great food. Madri on tap was delicious and the carpaccio was a great start to our amazing pastas.

We had a birthday celebration there this evening as a group of 7. The service and meal were both amazing. Everyone really loved their meals and we all got something different. They don t have a hard copy of a kids menu but the server was great and walking us through the options. The only downside tonight was the noise and temperature. We were seated upstairs and we couldn t stand the heat and the noise. It was uncomfortably warm and very loud. I couldn t hear the person across the table from me. That was unfortunate as we were a larger group hoping to chat.

Fratelli in kanata is one of our favorite restaurants to eat at. Always delicious food and the server was fantastic. Our favorite meals are fusilli Genovese, baked salmon, and the lemon chicken. Yummy!!!!

Wonderful restaurant with some great food. Unfortunately I find it to be quite noisy, even when its not busy, making it difficult to hear and have a conversation.

Everything was perfect

We had been regulars here for years, several years ago. Walked in this evening after years of absence and the owner came over to welcome us back. Food was excellent, just as it had been. Service was great, prices were current market for this class of restaurant. Overall just a very familiar and pleasant experience. Thanks

Place was Very noisy, couldnt even hear table companions, owner needs to install noise absorbers. Also, wait staff seemed to have forgotten our table, once we were seated!

Everyone I go here, the staff are really friendly and the food is amazing! The Alessandro pizza is definitely one to go for.

Refused a group of 7. Only option was to split up group in 4 separate 2 person tables outside in a section not even part of the patio. Expects people to sit in rain soaked chairs with puddles. Hostess was VERY rude and very dismissive. No greeting and ignored when first got there. Do not recommend especially if youre coloured. Hostess and co worker gave snarky looks and made comments. Take your business elsewhere.

The host a young girl was very unfriendly and rude, prejudice and ignored my present at the entrance. She gave us the seats that are on the side walk, dangerous when motovehicles drive by behind the seats. Chairs and tables wet from the rain. Take it or leave it attitude. Not acceptable.

Awesome place for some grub!

I had a reservation for 4 people. We arrived at the restaurant and there were plenty of 4 tables available. They put us in a 4 set tight table. After 20 minutes we noticed there were 2 tables with more space and we asked to switch. Here is where disappointment begins. The host said we could move but we would have to leave at 7:30pm because there was a big group coming. We thought, well we are having a birthday family dinner and we dont want to rush. We decided to stay on the same table. 40 minutes in, four guys arrived and they were set on the table we asked to move. That was very confusing but maybe there is more people to arrive. 15 minutes more and a family with 3 adults and one baby arrived. Guess what? They set the family on the other table with more space. From this moment, the host started pretending we were not there because of course, she lied to us. This is very bad and being a business owner it shows how they care about the costumers that are already in the store consuming their products and services. To me this was a game change. Despite the food that was really delicious I will not go back to this restaurant anymore. I cant find a reason for them to not let us to use the other table.

Came to celebrate a family member s birthday. It was very nice, a go to spot in Kanata.

I find it too dark so only 3 stars for atomosphere. Otherwise the food is always delicious. I ve dined here over the years on numerous and was never disappointed. The service is very good.

Reservations were for 7:30. Mains arrived and were finished by 7:41. Small portions and bland. Felt like fast food service. Bill arrived at 7:45. Would not recommend for a date night.

We had 3 family Birthdays on Saturday (April 27/24 - 9 guests total). Our server, Jenna, was WONDERFUL! Food and Cocktails were great! The bill was actually LESS than what I had anticipated! Thank you Jenna, and the rest of the staff at Fratelli s Kanata!! We had a wonderful time!

This italian restaurant is my favorite one in town. The service is excellent, the ambiance is so cozy and charming and the food is A+. Everything is always fresh and so tasty. Homemade pizza dough and pasta and desserts!! If youre looking for a nice place to have a great overall experience, Fratelli is the place to be!! Parking: In front of restaurant in the general parking area of the strip mall.

The gnocchi we ordered was a soggy inedible mess and obviously not much care was taken to put the dish together. Really disappointed. Pizza was ok at least.

A group of 7 friends got together for dinner, and everything was lovely! We really appreciated the round booth, as the sound absorption was helpful for our friends with hearing loss. Food was hot and delicious, service was incredible! Jazlyn and Josh met all our needs before we even knew we had them! Dietary restrictions: They had good options for our friend who is gluten-free, both pizza and pasta.

One of our favourites, over 25 years and the menu is consistent, not over fancy but just a great experience every time. Son and I sat at the bar, service was phenomenal and the food is ALWAYS delicious!

I can t comment on dishes other than the one I ordered which was the seafood linguine with red sauce. I wish I could find a place that makes clam linguine but no Italian restaurants that I have tried make it anymore and the only place that could make a good clam linguine was Allegro on Preston Street but since the ownership and the cook changed, so did the clam linguine. Horrible. As for the seafood linguine here, I found it to be subpar. There was a lot of shrimp. Three large ones and several small ones. The scallops were only little bay scallops which the taste is okay but bay scallops are rubbery. There were mussels but no clams and no squid. I found the sauce to be lacking in garlic, olive oil, basil and oregano. It was lacking tomato flavor and was generally tasteless I find a lot of Italian restaurants can t make a decent tomato sauce. I don t know if they just use some premade sauce out of a can but I would have expected more so it was disappointing. Other than that, the service was good and the staff were friendly. I will probably go there again and try their wood fired pizza. Hopefully I ll be pleasantly surprised.

Thoroughly enjoyed my birthday dinner at this charming Italian restaurant. Lasagna is the best in recent memory and the desserts are rich and scrumptious. I dine here regularly with both clients and friends, and we are always happy with our food and the service. Most recently, we had the pleasure of having Robert as our server for the second time, and he was so wonderfully kind and the service was exemplary. We are looking forward to dining at Fratelli again next week.

I definitely recommend eating here. Had a late lunch on Saturday. Service was excellent. We decided to get the Linguine Pescatore and Veal Marsala. Food was delicious. We will be back again to try other dishes.

Booked a table for 8:00 pm for a family of 5 was asked to wait beyond the time and was latter offered a cold table of 14 people next to kitchen !! Manager was Apathetic to the same. The food was not excellent and atmosphere was great. The management made it up for the lax start with an amazing end.

Despite having reserved a table, we waited for 15 minutes. The food was tasty, but the pasta had a huge amount of oil. The atmosphere was nice.

Ive come here a couple times with my colleagues for team lunches and it never disappoints! I always love going to places where its tough to make a decision on what to eat. The last time I tried the fettuccine sila, its a must if you love wild mushrooms. I usually have difficulty eating too much pasta but I felt the portion was just perfect. On a previous visit I enjoyed the beet salad, a great option for something light. The service was friendly and fast.

Showed up for a friends party during a steady night. Service was good, our server was attentive and hustling but still took longer than expected to get our food and drinks. Was not overly impressed with the meal, it was good but wouldnt suggest it to others. Overall good experience, will be back but wont be rushing in.

I had high expectations but ultimately was left disappointed. I ordered a caprese salad as an appetizer and it was not very good at all. I got the gnocchi pomodoro as a main and it was also pretty soggy and not what I was expecting at a nicer restaurant. The margarita was lovely so theres a plus! Our service also wasnt the best sadly. I am a former server so definitely have a good understanding of how it should go. I spent a good amount of money there and it just wasnt the experience I thought it would be.

We had high expectations, we ll give it another try. The place is nice and has great potential, but the quality of the food was not good at all. Maybe the chef had a bad day, who doesn t have one sometimes? For now it s 3 stars, but the food itself was between 1 and 2, closer to 1 if I used the price as a quality measure. It s disappointing but we re going to give it another shot soon and adjust the rating accordingly.

Never going back again. Spaghetti with beef bolognese had no salt. My partner s pizza was not cooked thoroughly. Quantity was a lot. Literally every table I saw had take out box. It s too dark inside and the seating is very uncomfortable. Servers weren t friendly either. Sorry but it s not for me. Idk who is giving them five stars honestly. Disappointed!

Definitely had an amazing experience, order the beef carpaccio, homemade meatballs as apps and penne diovola and gnocchi gorgonzola. Our waitress was very attentive and incredibly down to earth. Would definitely go again, we both very much enjoyed ourselves and the food.

Sheer perfection! Best. Lasagna. Ever!!!! You can tell its scratch made like Nona used to make. Everything Ive eaten here has been fantastic. As always the service was excellent. The staff were upbeat and cheerful despite the dining room and patio being full tonight. I give Fratelli Kanata my highest recommendation Dietary restrictions: The gluten-free pasta is very nice. Corn based, good texture.

First time here, we were a group of 10 people, place is nice, our food was amazing everyone enjoyed it, but the service is slow, something they have to improve on.

Unacceptable and rude service. stopped to have a few drinks at the bar at 10 pm, one hour before closing (11 pm), they told us we can sit at the bar. As soon as we said we are 7 they told us the place is closed! I always order food from here but will not anymore.

Visited this place for the first time with 6 other friends at 10:15pm for drinks ! The server ( older guy) directed us to the bar , where we found not enough seats to Accor 7 people. We asked to be seated at a table ; however, he REFUSED claiming the restaurant is closed . I hope the restaurant is doing well enough for him to reject 7 people for wanting to spend money there lol I would give 5 start to his lack of service!

We decided to go here with our family for our daughters 20th birthday as she had been here once before. The food was delicious, however, the service was horrible. To top it off, she was really looking forward to her favourite dessert and when we went to order it, the server said they were out of it. Very disappointing experience.

Not the same as my previous visits. Very loud for the type of food and restaurant it has been. Not a place if you want to sit down and have a calm conversation. You will be screaming all the time. Staff are friendly and nice as always. But they are stretched and putting less personal touch. And more surprising than all, my food was not good. Pasta felt it was cooked and microwaved (not saying it was, but had that rubbery chewy texture)

We had dinner here with our kids, food was good, but not great. Definitely overpriced. I ordered mussels which did not come with bread, when I asked for more bread it didn t come. Service was slow. Overall not a bad experience but not worth the $200 bill we paid on the end. I probably would not go back.

Fantastic food. The flavor and quality were wonderful, truly 100% on par with the quality and taste I experienced when eating my way through Italy last summer. We came here because I was craving gluten free pasta, and I was pleasantly surprised to see that pizza on a cauliflower crust is also an option! I had the fettuccine sila and it was a light, mild sauce that exactly hit the spot to satisfy my craving. It s not marked on the menus, but there are two gluten free desserts as well! I went for the chocolate mousse and loved it. The service was fast and wonderful, every interaction very friendly. We sat on the patio which was comfortable despite it being a bit of cold night. The only thing I didn t love was the volume level: when it s full, the inside seating area is much too loud to have a nice conversation. Otherwise, absolutely fantastic. I m in Kanata regularly for business and Fratelli is at the top of my go-to list. I unreservedly recommend it! Dietary restrictions: Comprehensive gluten free menu - something like two dozen pasta and pizza options, plus two desserts, can be made gluten free. The waitress asked if it s an allergy, I said yes, she said no problem. She also happened to be gluten free and promised it s safe. Indeed, I haven t experienced any issues after eating here! Parking: Plenty of free parking available in the lot shared by the businesses of the shopping center.

first time eating here and the experience over all was great. Tania (manager) was also serving us and she was very pleasant and polite. food came out quick but the portions were so so, with the current market I am not surprised. the younger servers that greeted us werent very polite, kind of set a poor tone once we first got in. Tania saved the day though so over all I would recommend you try this place for your self at the very least. I will be going back again! so long as Tania is the server.

Extremely overpriced, and I did not like the carbonara pasta at all. Plus the wait time was never ending. They charge like $2 for the chilli sauce which is free like everywhere else and comes with the food. Fratelli Westboro is so much better and I also learned, that the owner is different from the one of Fratelli Kanata. I would not recommend this place at all.

We had a group of 30 and service and food was great

Great atmosphere and our server was amazing. We got the charcuterie to start, which was delicious. I had a caesar...which, as a simple drink, I would say is overpriced. My 2 friends enjoyed their entrees while I found mine to be a bit bland and dry for pasta! Would go back and try a different dish for sure!

Ordered the Smoked Salmon appetizer and Roasted Salmon entree. Both were outstanding. My group also ordered a margarita pizza and carpaccio appetizers and those too were very good. Great experience and would definitely return in the future.

We ordered two gin and basil drink, $34, no gin in the drinks. Days later went to comlplain to manager, she was not in. Waitress took my name and number but never heard back.

The food & service are both excellent! It was our first time at Fratelli and Jazlyn is top notch. She went through the entire menu with us and provided her recommendations. She is also full of personality and a really nice person to chat with! I will absolutely be back and hope Jazlyn is my server in the future as well!

Smoked salmon appetizer was delicious, did not come with enough bread. I ordered the gorgonzola gnocchi and it did not taste anything like gorgonzola. The kick of blue cheese was entirely missing. Service was a bit slow and it was quite loud in the restaurant, but that can maybe be attributed to the fact that it was a Friday night. Overall a nice and busy restaurant, good atmosphere and good but expensive food. Vegetarian options: Options with no meat, no protein substitute offerings such as TVP or tofu.

We stopped in after a sens game and really enjoyed our visit. The service was very good and the staff were friendly without hovering. The food was top notch and the ambiance was calm and relaxed. I really enjoyed my visit and will be looking to return some other time.

I was there with 3 others expecting a pleasant dinning experience it was but that. We had a reservations and still we had to wait 20 minutes I at the door close to the bar. Then the waitress was nice but mislead led us on protein dishes. The mussels were all empty so you are paying for empty shells in sauce, and the pasta was over cooked. Not at all what we expected given the reviews here. No one came out from the management staff to ask, we informed our waitress who just said sorry. The only thing that was good was the $60 bottle of wine. Don t come here, I don t recommend at all. It a nice ambiance but other than that overpriced pasta and poor customer service. East side Mario s is better if I were to compare.

Don t come to this restaurant! Over priced for pasta when it costs $2 or $3 a box. When you order a pasta dish with chicken, you get only 2 or 3 little pieces of chicken so why are you paying $30??? We had reservations but still had to wait 35 minutes for our table. Manager never even came out to talk to our table regarding the complaints. Poor service from top management and I will never come back here. Shame on management. What do they pay you for?

Been a couple times and food is good. Young lady at bar Friday evening who works there and really drunk. Very unprofessional and ruined our night out.

A classic go to restaurant for anyone in the west end looking to indulge in great Italian pasta!

If you enter an Italian restaurant, it should smell like a combination of garlic, tomatoes, baking bread, hot oil, and hot cheese. Such was not the case with Fratelli s, theres a musty smell and no food odor. What followed was uninspired, overpriced food that included tasteless Cesar Salad, greasy Calamari, burnt Zucchini Fritta, and overcooked Chicken Gorgonzola. The politeness of our waitress might be the one redeeming factor. I usually dont waste my time writing a review, however, Fratelli s managed to insult my palate and pocketbook.

The calamari was wrapped in a light and flaky tempura batter. It was just right, not overdone. The seafood pasta was delicious, with scallops, mussels and loads of crunchy shrimp. The server was friendly and helpful. I have eaten at Fratelli several times and have always enjoyed the experience. Good value for money is another reason to frequent this establishment.

One of my favourite restaurants in Ottawa. Love it!

The best Italian restaurant in Kanata

Wow, where to freaking begin? We were seated on an otherwise not busy Tuesday evening and it took over 10min for our waitress to even bring our menus. Another 10min passes and she finally comes back for our drink order I ask if the cider s local, and she says yes, it s Ontario cider. She brings it over and it s a ciderhouse called Angry Orchard; I don t recognize it so I look it up, and sure enough it s an American chain cider. The waitress doesn t offer me anything else. She was rude and didn t seem very with it. The sausage in my husband s pasta was cold, and there were large chunks of raw onion in it not what was advertised. We would have asked for something else, but given it had taken 30min for our food to arrive, we didn t want to wait further. Finally, we go to pay with a gift card we won at a Christmas party, and the waitress said Oh you can t use that here. Fratellis is a chain but the locations split up years ago. Gift card had the same name and logo on it as Fratellis, and there s only one website for their multiple locations. An absolute scam. I m tempted to issue a chargeback on my card for the amount of misrepresentation that went on at this restaurant. Seriously, AVOID THIS PLACE unless you love slow service, undercooked raw produce, and getting scammed out of a meal.

Prices at Kanata restaurant are $4-6 more per entree than Westboro for some reason. No wonder Kanata restaurant doesnt have prices on their online menu...

Nice atmosphere and food but it was too loud and congested to have a good dining experience. Pasta was good and server was very friendly and attentive.

Went for a Birthday celebration. The server knew the menu well and offered accommodations regarding the sides. The food was as described and tasty. I liked the idea that they offered several varieties of wine as a house wine... ie chianti, ripasso, etc. Dietary restrictions: GF offerings

This used to be the place to go. Have been going for decades. Went for lunch today - had the Shrimp linguine for $29. The shrimps were just that - the shrimpiest in size of the smallest category, and didnt even look like they were seasoned or cooked - just added to the sauce. Tasteless and bland. Id prefer smaller number of well seasoned, grilled larger shrimp to the ones in todays entree. I ate one of them, that was it. Rubbery. The pasta itself was good though, sauce average. Service was average. Dont think Ill go back - places like Via Marzo have MUCH better food and service at the same price point. Its too bad - food used to be much better before and its location was convenient.
