Really delicious food, friendly service, clean place, quiet and calm atmosphere. I appreciated that the chef put aside ingredients to accommodate my dietary restrictions.

The worst restaurant experience in Ottawa... 0 points for service (I waited an hour for ordering curry), 1 point for taste (the noodles used for udon are very Chinese and very salty and I ordered them after asking) There is water to drink), overall, it is highly not recommended!

Very calm place with good food! Great service too!

It catches you on the way to catch the bus to go to the farmers market or events. So its good to get takeaway sushi, they are a little slow, but the sushi is very good. I recommend it.

Beautiful family run business. The Chef is very friendly and makes the food with love. I think people hold this restaurant to a high standard because of the prices they charge. But the prices are commensurate with what sushi restaurants in the core of Centertown charge. This is NOT your cheap generic all you can eat sushi restaurant. This is high quality, authentic, and traditionally prepared sushi, served in a casual sit down atmosphere. The best sushi I ve had in Ottawa.

The lady was extremely nice but the sashimi was the worst I even had. I ate 2 pieces, paid, and left. Hopefully, I won t get food poisoning because the fish is DEFINITELY NOT fresh. On the bright side, the miso soup is good.

With their fresh new look, this restaurant has become a true contender for the best Japanese one in the city! They were also kind enough to offer a $1 discount for a vegetarian bento box that was both delicious and filling.

Had the spicy tuna role & spicy california roll. Both were of great quality and great tasting. The staff was very nice and accommodating. Will be back!

Went here with a co-worker during a lunch break - and thats what the restaurant is great for. Quick service and decent sushi, albeit, a little pricy for the quality and quantity. The service was great and the place looks fresh!

Seriously, I don t get why people rate this so low. The food is fresh and tastes good, the people who run the shop provides great service and is always polite and nice towards you. The prices are acceptable if you re talking about Sushi rolls however Nigiri s are a bit expensive at $2 for 2 pieces. Your food gets delivered really fast and compared to another restaurant that charged $2 for the same drink, the $1.45 price tag is fine. The environment was nice and quiet with the seats being comfortable. The waiters won t disturb you or rush you on your order. If you want to work while eating it s a great environment to. Overall I enjoyed the experience I had and will definitely recommend people to it.

Tasty food and lovely service

The restaurant has new owners and a new look. The food is very fresh and good value for money especially the bento box. Highly recommend giving it another chance if you had visited before.

TERRIBLE sushi - ratio of fish to rice is poor. Basically getting any rolls will equate to ALL RICE, no fish. They give very little fish in the rolls. Proportions are terrible. This is not a quality sushi place. Also ordered the teriyaki beef and it came cold to the table when it was supposed to be hot. Service is friendly - the staff are polite. Overall I had a terrible experience and will not come back. You basically spend $20 worth eating rice. Avoid this place. There are other better sushi restaurants in the surrounding area.

They had a bit of a rough patch but have been there twice in last month and the bento box has been awesome both times.

Delicious made fresh sushi!

We had a very good meal here. The sushi was presented very nicely, Udon soup was very well prepared and my curry was very flavorful! We highly recommend this restaurant.

It is rice and seafood. What i would say is that it would be way better with less rice or just a better tasting one. It reminds me of the type of sushi that you get at buffets that dont specialize in sushi. All that said however is that its filling and is food. Also, the soy sauce is the regular salty version. The lady is nice I will say.

Located downtown on Bank Street near DHL, it is a classic Japanese restaurant that is run by a Japanese chef. The food is good and the lack of staff makes the space less lively. The welcome is cordial and it is easy to access by wheelchair.

I was really sad... because the servers are very friendly, but the food is not what it promises. I ordered box A, a bento with a little of everything. The sashimi was frozen. The rice was very loose. The meat was unseasoned and was changed from red meat to chicken because it was frozen. Two kani and shrimp ribbons. What I found most interesting was the sweet potato tempura... I understood why out of 3 restaurants with the same proposal, it was empty at lunch time...

This place has gone downhill. There was too much rice and the sushi didn t taste very fresh. Not worth it.

Worst restaurant in Ottawa

Just an awful bento box, should have read a review first or taken the hint when I saw the restaurant was completely empty. This restaurant should be closed.

Very friendly service, excellent prices and great taste. I usually get teriyaki salmon and veggies from them and I highly recommend this place overall.

My work partner and I eat there frequently for lunch break. We have tried other sushi places around Ottawa and found Kyoto Sushi to be one of the best for quality of food and quantity. The portions are big and food is delicious. We look forward to eating there. The staff is very good to us.

Vegetarian platter is a great value, ordered take out and it was packaged well and was tasty. It does include a California roll which some may not consider vegetarian.

If you think that you ve had the worst sushi, you haven t had it from Kyoto. Ordered a sashimi tray where 12 out of 36 pieces were crab stick, and the fish was literally frozen. When it thawed, I noticed that the chef didn t even bother cutting it properly. Worst sushi experience in Ottawa.

Food was basic but tasty. Proprietor was very friendly and accomodating. I didnt feel the low stars reviews were deserving. Decor is outdated but food offerings were reasonably priced.

Too slow. Wrong dishes are often delivered. Service is poor. Food is not delicious. Very expensive.

Ordered the Curry Chicken. It tasted like sodium and who knows what. The vegetables were good (they tasted like vegetables) but the sauce was terrible.

- Ordered the vegetable tempura. 2/3 of it was sweet potato, 1/3 of it was zucchini. Tempura batter was soggy and chewy. Tempura sauce was very watery, to the point of not tasting like anything. If anything, it tasted more like watered down soy sauce than watered down tempura sauce. - Udon did not use udon noodles. I dont get it. - Vegetarian sushi was mostly rice. The avocado wasnt ripe, still rock hard and not very tasty. - At least they give you free tea.

What horrible food and customer service. I requested three times not to have spicy mayo on my food. They confirmed it wasnt a problem. I get back to my desk to eat my food, and half of the sushi rolls and three rice balls are filled with spicy mayo. It wasnt busy, I confirmed three times not to put the spicy mayo in my food. I called to speak to someone about this, and the person on the phone was very confrontational and kept asking me if it was an allergy and what I was allergic to. He was extremely rude and never once apologized for their mistake. Dont eat here.

I would give zero star if I could! We were the second table when we came in. It s been 45 minutes and nothing is ready! All the customers are waiting! I don t know what s going on. Will never ever come again!

Horrible food

Warning...the food is horrendous. Save your money and dont go to this place. Im assuming that this place is gonna close soon and that s why they dont care about the quality of the food. We ordered Chicken udon soup .. the chicken was smelly and not fresh and the broth was not tasty.. the service could be improved. NEVER AGAIN.

DO NOT EAT HERE IF YOU ENJOY JAPANESE FOOD. My friend and I decided to try out this restaurant, big mistake. For one, the decor and state of the restaurant is abysmal. The lighting was super dark, the carpet was peeling up from the floor, and the single bathroom was disgusting. We also had to constantly swat away flies from our food. My friend ordered a chicken donburi and gyoza, while I ordered the salmon sushi roll. When the food arrived, we were not happy. The rice for the chicken donburi looked as if it was haphazardly dumped onto the plate, and instead of silky soft eggs cooked with chicken, it was hard scrambled eggs beside chicken. The gyoza were TASTELESS. The beef filling had no seasoning, and the gyoza dipping sauce was unbelievably bland. The sauce tasted like water with a pinch of salt. And my salmon sushi roll? The rice was NOT seasoned! It was plain white rice with salmon wrapped up in seaweed. How can a sushi place NOT SEASON their rice?! It completely defeats the purpose of opening a sushi restaurant!! Absolutely terrible.

Poor service. Middling cheap sushi

This used to be a great restaurant. Different ownership. Ordered the salmon sushi paid in advance. Left without eating. Promptly and quietly put my coat on and left. Was actually afraid to consume what was placed before me.

Wanted ramen noodles on a cold day. Other restaurant across the street was lined up out the door. Came here instead. Ramen noodles were not quite what I was expecting. More like northern Chinese wheat noodles. Well at least there was no waiting for a table.

The service attitude towards Chinese people is very poor. The owner is also Chinese and not authentic. The owner is chinese not japenese

I ordered beef udon noodle soup for take out, it was ready when I arrived for pick and customer service was normal. I started eating the soup, not impressed: the broth was below average, the noodles were pasty, tasted as if they had been over cooked or thawed out from the freezer and I would even go to say that I didnt even recognize the noodles

Had the beef bento. The beef tasted like processed sandwich meat. Not authentic. Disappointed. Hope they improve or they will be gone.

By far, the WORST restaurant I have ever been to! We ordered a chicken udon and a combo box A. First of all, the udon was simply a bowl of salt water. It had zero flavour and way too salty even for my mom and my mom has high tolerance for sodium.. Also, when I ordered the combo A, I did it from looking at the photo which was not a true reflection. The server was explaining how I was supposed to choose when I wasnt even asked for options. We did not even touch the udon and explain how it was not edible but they were just looking at each other and charged full price without even apologizing. It is in your best interest that you avoid this place at all costs. This is why Chinese should not run Japanese restaurant!

Everything made fresh to order, delicious sushi!

I used to come here a fair bit when I had frequent assignments in Ottawa. I remembered the restaurant serving good food at very reasonable prices. I purchased the sashimi bento box this time but found the coating on the tempura shrimp to be hard and the sashimi pieces to be very small and not high quality. I was disappointed with this visit but I might give it another try if Im in the area again, in case this was just a bad day.

I ordered combo box A with beef teriyaki and sashimi. The rice it came with was not Japanese rice, tasted nothing like teriyaki (with overcooked pieces of broccoli and carrot mixed in as filler), and the sashimi was a poorly cut slice of salmon, one shrimp cut butterfly style that had definitely gone off and tasted like actual dirt/mould, and two measly pieces of imitation crab. The tempura was soft by the time it arrived to my table, while the vegetables were not cooked. Tempura is supposed to be light and crispy, not soft minutes after it comes out of the fryer. The dipping sauce had no flavour, I had to bombard it with soy sauce for any taste. The deep fried gyoza was okay (definitely packaged), the seaweed salad was what you would expect from something mass-produced (I did not eat it), when it had said green salad on the menu which I would have actually eaten even if it was cheap. I went here once or twice as a pre-teen and remember it being alright but thats because it was the only Japanese food available. I know the point of a business is profit but there is absolutely no passion in what they do and they are churning out actual trash. Do not go here.

Ordered two dishes. Beef noodle soup for dine-in and chicken oyakodon to go. The beef and chicken tasted really old. I dont know how meat can taste this bad. At least the rice and noodles were average... Ill attach a picture of my takeout. Thatll say it all. How can a restaurant serve something like this

Okay for lunch but a bit pricy for what it offers

I took salmon nigiri and chicken rice. Salmon was cut in little piece with bad cutting skill, and the rice was too large and hard. Chicken rice tastes like kind of thing you can order in food court. I also wanted an ice water, and they serve me a Nestle....Bad service made me low the stars from 2 to 1. I order tamago nigiri firstly, 15min later she told me the chicken rice is coming, around 1 min, but Tamago was still frozen. I was just feeling silence, how could you tell your customer that you cant provide the stuff after 15 mins? If it was busy, I do understand, but actually it was empty. Wont return.

I havent been in sometime for lunch but when I was there the service seemed to take forever. Not ideal if you have a fixed amount of time for lunch. Its also expensive for what you get.

The food is pretty good, generally reasonably priced, especially the Bento Box.

My favourite sushi place in all of Ottawa. Ive been here multiple times and everytime I come the service is great, the food is great, and the price is reasonable. I have been to about 5 or 6 other sushi restaurants in Ottawa and this one is the best in terms of quality and price. Right on the corner of slater and Bank, Im always shocked by how few people know it exists.

A very warm restaurant with comfy Japanese food. The service is always outstanding. I love the selections. Everything is prepared with care. Every time I visit Ottawa, I make a stop.

Poor quality sushi and limited selections. Noodles are very tasty! Sushi is very salty and oily, tempura wrapped in thick batter, worse than an all you can eat buffet sushi place. Had only been there twice during lunch and was disappointed both times. Really miss the previous owner! Update [2017.12.05]: I m changing the star rating to 4, because of their recent addition of ramen noodles, so tasty! The soap base is made with real pork bone simmered for hours everyday; noodles are made onsite, fresh with just the right texture; and to top it all, the portion is huge! A lot tastier than Sansotei from across the street!

I didnt know you can serve rubbers and call it a sushi. A textbook definition of Japanese restaurants that does not do well and cut cost by serving less quality fish.

A very peaceful atmosphere, perfect for a quiet evening. I was invited there by a friend, and ordered two plates of California rolls and spicy salmon rolls. Not only did I witness them being made right in front of me, but they were absolutely delicious. The service was great to say the least, and I will definitely be going back.
