We’ve been several times and always recommend the dip trio and any halloumi dish :) But we recently visited to celebrate our ten year anniversary which sadly wasn’t acknowledged by staff :( would recommend for a nice dinner but not necessarily a celebration
My wife and I came here for our anniversary dinner, and overall, it was a great experience. The food was very flavorful, and the presentation was excellent. The servers were friendly and knowledgeable. We were happy to see that the beef and chicken are halal, though it’s worth noting the duck isn’t. Parking near the restaurant was a bit of a hassle, but there are a few paid garages nearby if you don’t mind walking a bit. One standout dish for us was the knafeh—it was absolutely delicious and a perfect way to end the meal. The only downside was that the portions felt a bit small for the price, but the quality of the food made up for it. Overall a 4.5 experience
Good, but Overrated & overpriced. This was a meal that tried to hard to be fancier than it was. As a group of 8, we ordered “the feast” @ 60$ per person for dinner. There was a variety of food over 3 courses. It was pretty good overall, with some dishes being quite good, others medium. They love adding pomegranate seeds to dress up the look of appetizers, but it’s seems odd & less special when it’s on all 4 appetizers, salad included. Home made bread was really good. meats quite good overall. Deserts, including baklava, were nice. - FYI : 19% gratuity billed as a default — I’d prefer being able to choose the tip based on service and food. - draft cider was $14. Seems high for for was it was, even if it was good. Service was very good overall. I left this meal full but it was hungry 2 hours later… Felt steep paying $100 for meal, cider, tax and tip. If I go back, I would order a meal vs a “feast” or Sharable. That said, in no hurry to return. Or if I do go back, I might just go for a drink and desert.
Great food! We ordered the meat platter for the family and it was just the right amount. Lamb, beef, chicken and tons of spreads, salads, and side dishes. 9/10 on the flavour side and genuinely lovely staff.
We went to Fairouz Cafe for our anniversary dinner, and it was a great experience. We ordered the beef skewer, and it was cooked to perfection. I was expecting smaller portions due to the fine dining environment, but the food was well-portioned and very filling. The lady serving us was energetic and efficient. I forgot her name, but her service was excellent! I loved that they explained exactly how each dish was made. Overall, it was an excellent experience, and I would highly recommend this place.
Nice place , super clean and friendly staff ! The spices overpowered the taste of all the dishes. From the baba ghannouj all the way to the meat platter ( which we found a little overpriced at 100$) for what came on it !
DO NOT ORDER pide - it came out very salty! We brought it to staff and manager's attention (Eric) and they still charged us for it. It is sad because this was my favorite place in Ottawa, it truly ruined our experience and for that reason I will not come back.
Overall, the decor and ambience is really nice especially to enjoy with a group of friends but the food was only pretty good. The Muhammara was very underwhelming, the cashews just lack the flavour you’re looking for that walnuts usually give. And maybe some pomegranate syrup or molasses would just add that extra oomph The house-made pita though is FANTASTIC! They serve it in a warm clay bowl and covered in cloth to keep warm. Got extras of that to enjoy! The crusted lamb sirloin was good but not the best lamb, especially for the price. It didn’t come with much else except for the fried taro and a few vegetables so order more or save some of the pita. Summer truffle babaganoush - the eggplant was good but can really do without the truffles. The washrooms are kept clean, the men’s and women’s are on opposite sides of the restaurant. There is quite a big dining area and they also have a patio.
This is a unique middle eastern experience Vegetarian options: Good vegetarian sharing plates Food : 5/5 |
The portions are small and overpriced.
Amazing. We ve had the opportunity to taste Lebanese cuisine in Beirut and around the world. Fairouz is easily up there in taste, quality and service. A great culinary experience. No
Most new and best cafe in Richmond.Highly recommend to come here. The best service
Amazing. So delicious. Great atmosphere. Friendly Staff. honestly, so so so good!!!
This was one on the few good restaurants in Ottawa. Unfortunately, they changed the menu and the ingredients quality dropped so dramatically that it doesnt even measure up to most of middle eastern fast-food restaurants in Ottawa. We ordered the meat platter. Other than chicken (which was bearly decent but definitely not worth the price tag) and mohammara (appetizer) which was good, we couldnt finish the rest of the meat (lamb and beef kofteh) as it was dry, overcooked and tasteless. The tabbouleh was saggy with a very unpleasant taste. Same for the labneh that tasted like cheap supermarket cheese. Extremely disappointing.
Our meal at Cafe Fairouz was delicious! Everything was good but my favorites are the fried halloumi and the Brussels sprouts dish. I enjoyed myself.
A good place to go for professional dinners for large groups (20 people) with various dietary needs (vegan, gluten free etc). Seemed to be understaffed which led to a few issues with understanding what we were getting with the set 3-course menu.
Went for an early dinner on Saturday Aug 24. Our server was super courteous. Made some excellent recommendations for drinks and dessert. We tried the truffle babaganoush which really earthy and tasty with the fresh baked mini pita We tried the harissa shrimp and savoured every bite The lamb skewer dish was very well cooked. I have never before had a melt in your mouth kind of lamb Beef lahmajoun pide was over flowing with perfectly spiced ground beef And the ashta brûlée dessert was simply out of this world. My husband and I ordered one to share but it was so good we ordered another one and practically locked the plate clean. Kudos to the chef and our server for really making this dinner a great experience for us
The meat lamb kabobs were so disgusting. It smelled so fishy, I almost barfed. We had to stop eating and left Food : 1/5
We were a party of 4. We wanted a good place for a business dinner. It was the perfect accommodation for us. We order many different item to share between the 4 of us. I am fairly new to middle eastern cuisine so it was a discovery. Everything was on point and the waiter explained every dish with passion :) We all enjoyed our experience.
Had a reservation for 9-10 people. We were told that because of the size of the group, we had to get the Sofra experience. We expressed that there were some dietary restrictions in the group (vegan and celiac), but we were assured that the Sofra experience would accommodate all dietary restrictions, no problem. We arrived on time at 7pm. We did not get our drinks until 7:45. The first course of the Sofra experience did not show up until after 8pm (1 hour in). It was an assortment of dips with pita, marinated olives, stuffed olive leaves and two different kinds of flatbread. I, being the celiac member of the group, was accommodated by a small plate of about 8 cucumber slices with which to eat the dips, to substitute out for the pita bread. The pita was replenished here and there but I had to ask a couple of times for more cucumber slices, for which we were charged. This was disappointing as I had to pay more to even just be able to eat the dips, which were the main part of the first course. Especially given that I couldnt even eat the flatbread. The second course did not arrive until around 9:30pm, by which time we had been so hungry (after 2+ hours of waiting) that we had filled ourselves up on hummus and olives and were unable to eat much of the main, which we had to ask to be packed up. We all received coffee instead of actual dessert for the third course, because they weren t sure what they were able to give for the dietary restrictions (which we had been assured when the reservation was made 3 weeks prior that they could accommodate). We didn t get out of there until almost 11pm. Being celiac, Im used to places not having GF menu/ dessert items. But dont have me sign up to pay for a three course meal that you assure me I can eat when I can actually only eat one and a half of the courses and have to pay more to do it. Though our server was very friendly, the wait times for the entire experience were horrible. We saw several groups of similar size go in and come out before we were even given our second course. There was a 19% auto-grat on our bill, which was extremely disappointing given that wait times for drinks were 30-45 min (if the drinks came, they often didn t), and the wait for food even longer. There seemed to be no teamwork going on behind the scenes. The food, IMO, was not worth the high cost or the wait. If I wanted to fill up on olives, hummus, and cucumber for 4 hours, I could ve gone home and eaten them out of my fridge. My bill alone was over $100, and I didnt even order a beverage like the rest of our group. We all left very disappointed as we had been so excited to try this place for so long. We will not be going back.
The food was amazing. Had the meat plate for 2. Was an explosion of taste and flavour
Rude staff, Constant rush, The food, just not Lebanese enough. Food : 1/5
Nothing tastes good except the bread
Absolutely amazing. Every single time.
Excellent restaurant. Awesome food. Recommended.
Beautiful quiet atmosphere with some of the tastiest food I ve had the pleasure of putting in my mouth - highly recommend the hummus
Very nice experience. Impeccable service. Tasty and well presented food. I recommend
The middel east with a modern twist, wonderful food, service and mood. Enjoy the meeze style of food, with a mouth watering grilled halloumi and beef kebab, or other deligths. So if you got the time in Ottawa, go there.
Amazing food, service, and ambiance. Great for a night out any time of the year. Lots of delicious mezes to choose from.
Good ambiance but the restaurant and the food are not really authentically lebanese. The flavors are delicious and the modern twists to traditionnal meals are interesting, but if you are looking for an authentic lebanese experience you will be dissapointed. If you are looking for lebanese food with a modern twist this restaurant is for you.
My partner and I each ate a delicious dessert on the terrace. A very nice waitress took care of us. The service was slowed down due to a technical problem but to compensate we got a discount on the bill. We will return there for dinner. Very excited!! Delicious desserts! We will return for a meal!
The overall experience in a nutshell was horrible. I went there because I was craving some middle eastern food. First, the kebab was cocked like a steak it didn t even have the skewering marks. The price vs the portions was a joke. It was soooo disappointing. Service wasn t bad, but I think the only middle eastern thing about this place is just the music they play.
Everything was absolutely delicious so happy we tried this gem. Won t be disappointed.
We had anniversary reservations. My partner called ahead to enquire if there was vegan options. He was told there was a Vegan Menu and it would be on our reserved table, when we arrived. There was not.We enquired but the server said he couldnt find the vegan menu. We were told which options could be veganized. There was 2 choices. We were given water when we sat down but no offer to take drink requests. We had to call server over to order starters. Then had to call server over to place our order for mains. Service was slow. Wenever ordered drinks or after meal coffees or desert. We were never asked. Husband just got out of hospital and was on a strict no spices diet. His mains came with peppers, that werent listed on dish he ordered. Server told him they were Not spicy but they were. We had to remove them from his plate. Server never came over to ask if we needed anything. Worst service ever. For the price of the food, this was unacceptable. My husband was apologizing to me for the poor pick of a dinner place for our anniversary. Would never go back here. Vegetarian options: Read our review
So good if you don t try eating here I m telling you you are missing out. Vegetarian options: Hummus and fresh hot pita are so good try the fries the olives and the Muhammara too. Omg and the Brussel sprouts are unreal I can t even explain it. Food : 5/5 |
Had dinner with a friend and was seated in the back patio area. Food was delicious. Service was absolutely horrible. Truly the Worst Ive ever experienced. One waitress brought us a drink, another brought the food out. We had no idea who or server was because unless we actually got up to go tell them we wanted another drink or more bread, they werent present. Turns out we were told it actually was a guy working the patio but he never (literally) came over to our table. We found that out because after a 15 min wait with no waiter in sight, we got up and went to the front to ask for the bill and he was walking around in the front. Inside dining was full. Outside wasnt. Service really ruined the whole experience. Unfortunate because the good was great.
Delicious dinner at Fairouz in the Byward market. The service was a little slower than I would ideally like, but the food was excellent. We ordered the Meat Platter (it is described as being for groups of 2-4, but was perfect for 2 of us) with a couple extra sides of pita, and some warm spiced olives. Definitely would recommend this spot.
I can only think of this place as a tourist trap. Food is way overpriced, with most items costing double what they should. Attentive and friendly wait staff, but I cant recommend visiting, unless you want to be fleeced.
Disappointment. It took almost an hour before we got our plates. We arrived and the restaurant was at maybe 20% capacity though. It was 5:40 p.m.! I had to alert my server twice; for the beer (he did not understand what my guest especially did NOT want) and the service time. The second portion of bread arrived we were finished. We felt neglected dear server! If at least we had had a WOW for the food.....Too expensive for the quality and quantity of the dishes which do not include starchy foods.
Love this place. Perfect for a date night or any special occasion.
May have never thought of a Middle Eastern place before but if you ever try one then let it me Fairouz! The food is amazing, like seriously SOOOO GOOD. Do not pass on the hummus and pita for the table. There is no bad options on the menu. If you want to try as much as yiur can, there are lots of options and I love to go with friends and get plates to share on the table. The staff all are just incredible and so friendly. As someone with nut allergies they were great about handling it and telling me what items I could get without nuts and which ones I had to avoid. It gives me such peace of mind to try new food when the staff cares this much! Already planning my next trip back!
The welcome and kind, attentive service was outstanding. The home made pita is excellent, some dishes came with delicious warm pita, we ordered more. The babaganoush has a wonderful smokey flavour and the muhammara is a must try. Main dishes were tawook and beef kebab - both were presented beautifully and the taste was remarkable. Good wine selection, tasty desserts and wide selection of teas and coffee available. Highly recommended.
Fine dining? Sure. We paid 100$ for 4 appetizers that were 3/10. And what were they you ask? Hummus and babghanouj etc, the most basic stuff and they couldn t figure it out. Service: waited forever to place an order, then ages to receive the order and then even longer to actually pay. Ridiculously slow and they weren t even busy.
I m so sad to write this bad review because I adored the old Fairouz on somerset. Unfortunately, its new incarnation in the market completely missed the mark. The food was still good though less refined than before but the service was so epically bad that it became a focal point of our evening. The service was exceedingly slow, and our server disappeared after taking our order leaving the poor bartender to try to cover way too many tables on his own. I cannot fault him - he did his best, but something was really off the night we visited and I m not in a hurry to go back.
Ate there last night with a group of friends. The server suggested we share some dips and that was a perfect starter. We had two kinds of hummus - one with pomegranate seeds which gave it a nice acidity; and one topped with a generous amount of shaved truffle. I could have lived off the truffle hummus alone, it was so good. The dips came with lovely small pita breads, puffed in the oven and lightly toasted. They were fresh, fragrant, and delicious. We all wanted our own mains. My friends mostly went with fattoush salad and a side of truffle fries, both of which they raved about. I had the olive shakshuka pide, a flatbread topped with olive tapendade, tomato sauce, cheese, and quail eggs. It was absolutely delicious and I inhaled it. We were fortunate to arrive before the happy hour (4-6) ended so our meals all had reduced prices. I picked up the cost of one of the dips, and with my main and a cocktail my bill came to around $45.00 before tip. Very reasonable in my opinion, and I will certainly return.
Its price is very expensive and there are not many varieties I dont recommend it at all
Soooooo good. Food and cocktails are amazing. Staff is great! Highly recommend!
Food is amazingly great. Well trained servers .
Really wanted to love this place, but was shocked at how poor the experience was, immensely disappointing. The lamb sirloin and chicken was ice-cold, oversalted and the rice was actually soggy and uncooked. Not the kind of experience you expect when you spend 300$ for two people with such small portions. The server came and took half of our table midway through dinner, and later left our takeout on the floor next to us because there was no space for it. It then took 20 minutes of waiting for the bill, and asking for it three times, before we went and paid at the front ourselves. The food was nowhere near good enough to redeem this kind of service. Will not be returning again.
We had an incredible birthday feast at Fairouz and loved every bite! The fattoush salad is a great starter WITH the fried halloumi, highly recommend that add-on! Then the pide dishes were a fantastic way to experience many different flavours in a way that even our child was able to enjoy. We had the beef, lamb and duck, and surprisingly the duck was the stand out, although lamb was a close second. The meal finished with a lovely cake pop surprise from the staff that was delicious! Fairouz is definitely elevated Middle Eastern cooking at its finest, we cant wait to go back!
Everything was yummy. Very elegant as well
Went to this restaurant for my friend s birthday and was blown away by the food, ambiance, and above all, incredible service from the lovely staff!
This was a great overall experience. The staff are wonderful and the food was amazing. The meat platter was fabulous.
Extremely disappointing food, I wouldn t recommend this to anyone searching for good middle eastern food. You re better off go to a Kebab spot that will make your palette feel wondrous
We had a nice birthday dinner here, I booked a specific table ahead of time online (at cost). We did the family style tasting menu. It was a lot of food and even though I dont think its my favorite cuisine the food was great. Though, we waited maybe 30 minutes after we sat down before the drink service. Apparently, our waiter left or got distracted, so someone else helped out. We also ordered halloumi extra and it never came.
The food was pretty good! Love the Brussels sprouts dish, beef kebab, and halloumi. TLDR: Great food, very poor service. A couple of concerns to mention that would cause me not to return: We ordered fresh pita that never arrived Our fattoush salad that we ordered without onion came with onion (it was replaced), and we were forgotten for the second half of our meal. We wanted to order a dessert and another round of drinks but our server Eric didnt return to the table to clear the plates after were were done our main dishes and then it was time to go. We had to flag him down to ask for the bill.
Party of two, nice variety of food. High quality Zaater with nice olive oil. We ordered the menu for two, which came with lots of add on we did not expect
The food isn t good.. and the waitress we got was not great. The space is nice. The food: we went for an event yesterday and we were a big group so we had a set menu - I think it was the sofra menu . The food was not good at all, unfortunately. And the portions left us all hungry.. The taboule and fatoush had no flavour and the majority of the food seemed to only have spicy spices, no other flavour. The chicken was dry The kafta was over spicy The lamb came out cold The service: we had a few waiters and waitresses. The guys were nice. The space: nice decor
Very nice place but food was not the best. Most of the stuff were spicy and missing a bit of flavor. We had a set menu so we didnt have a chance to try other options. When we came to pay, the waitress just gave us the machine without showing us the bill. I had to ask her to see the bill 2 times before she gave it to me and it was in her hands. The bill included 19% gratitude, she didnt mention it and didnt want to show us so we can give another tip.
Received consistently amazing customer service. Highly recommend this restaurant!
The food was the worst Ive ever had at a restaurant in this price range. The service was very slow. Got the menu 15 minutes after being seated.
We went there for dinner as a family. We had a reservations for 9 but unfortunately had to wait 10 mins before being seated. This was just the start. Our server an Asian dude never came back for the water and drinks we had asked for. In fact we had to go up to ask for it again. This time we were served by a different server. The drinks came in at the end of the meal. No one came back to ask if we needed anything. Then the Asian server came and handed me the bill and said nothing. This was an absolute bad experience and not fine dining at all. If you are looking for proper service look elsewhere.
Love the vibe of this place and the food is gorgeously presented and really delicious. We tried: Fried Brussel Sprouts, Truffle Fries, Roz Asfar, Confit Duck, and the Veg Kebab. The plates are good for sharing as well. Plus the mocktails are pretty and taste good too!
Everything tasted fresh and delicious. The decor and vibe was perfect. Every staff member we encountered was friendly and accommodating. I would definitely go back
Vegetarian options: Good vegetarian options Food
Great Place, went there to celebrate my wedding anniversary Highly recommended. Food : 5/5
The New Years Eve dinner was a complete disappointment and a rip off. The dinner was misleadingly advertised and the price vs the portions you get were a joke. **this review is from a couple years ago, I simply took a couple pictures recently to add** We (2) made reservations here based on the advertised 4 course meal for 75$ each... But upon arrival it turned out to be a SHARED 4 course meal for 2@150$ - we were only able to choose 4 dishes to share between us. We expected a combined choice of 8 dishes, which was the reason we booked this dinner. To add to the disappointment; the shared portions were very small and we ended up leaving hungry. I have been to many different NYE 4/5/6 course meals with a per person price and have never been told we are not able to order per person...when you are charging per person. All in all; some dishes were good (lamb was very good), some were questionable tasting and strange combinations of favors (grilled halloumi with whipped cream and sweet potato) and the atmosphere was nice but too crowded to enjoy. The lack of transparency will be the main reasons I will not be supporting Fairouz again. Im sure you could afford to provide more than 1 mini pita per person as an appetizer... Parking: Parking is difficult to find. Kid-friendliness: Not kid friendly. Wheelchair accessibility: Not accessible.
I ate at this establishment yesterday and was pleased with the experience. Great service, tasty food and a good wine selection. Kid-friendliness: Not sure.
I was really looking forward to dining here on NYE for their special 4 course dining. I was disappointed with the experience. While the ambiance of the restaurant was lovely and the food was great, the amount of food served was pathetic - especially for $75 / person. Each course was shared between 2 people, which was somewhat passable for the appetizers and desert, but the entree to share was only enough for 1 person. Both my boyfriend and I left hungry after the meal. This NYE menu felt like a rip off especially when you compare it to other 4 course dining restaurants where each has their own plates and full-size entrees. Overall, the food here is way overpriced compared to the industry standard for the same quantity and quality of food. I would not recommend coming here if you want a full satiating meal for a reasonable price.
As a regular customer, their NYE dinner was a rip off and a scam in terms of what you pay for the portion you get. We paid for 3 people and we got the same amount of food 2 people did (which wouldn t have even been enough for two people). We left hungry and ordered food home, that s how bad it was. Extremely disappointed to have given $300 to Fairouz that night. Extremely disappointed that the owners made this terrible decision. I will not be eating there again, and will certainly not be recommending this restaurant or its NYE dinner to anyone. What a joke of a 4 course meal. To top it all off, our reservation was at 10 pm and we got seated at 10:45pm, with not even anything offered for compensation. What a disaster. I say this as an Arab who wants to support this Arab business, do better, fairouz.
Five stars is not enough. Absolutely delicious and varied menu that changes often. The pita is fresh, the labneh, grilled halloumi and spices olives are phenomenal. I Highly recommend the Hemingway Habibi cocktail, if it is still offered. The olive shakshuka is a fantastic vegetarian option (so tasty and great size), as are the grilled brussel sprouts. A cardamom latte is a wonderful treat to finish things off. The presentations are glorious, the atmosphere is so relaxed and the service is so kind and friendly. Thank you!!
Food was ok price was overload for nothing
I took my parents and my brother here for dinner and we were all very pleased! There were a large variety of dishes to choose from (all which looked delicious) but we ended up trying 4 dips, 2 mains and 1 side. This was for 4 of us and it was a perfect amount, if anything a little bit too much. All of dishes were full of flavour and perfectly balanced a variety of different tastes. Wonderful experience for my tastebuds. Service was quite good too! It was a little slow and the main dishes took a little longer than expected to come out but oh, so very worth the wait. Obviously a bit on the pricier side but I guess that could be expected for a fine dining establishment downtown. Overall, lovely experience. Will definitely return.
3 ¼ Stars: Too white-washed. Flavors are nothing egregious but they barely come close to authenticity.
Service is really on the level. They really care. Delicious, not standards food. I will come again you try other dishes.
Fairouz is beautiful but their menu is not traditional middle eastern food. I found the food lacked seasoning and while it was beautifully plated, it wasn t super flavourful. It was also incredibly expensive for the portion size. The shish taouk was 65$ and it really didn t taste or look like traditional shish taouk. It resembled a roasted chicken and the garnishes were interesting My fiancé is Lebanese and he found the menu questionable, the food was westernized and lacked the traditional spices that make Arabic food so tasty and different. I would say this place is better for a light meal, with fine wine and socializing rather than eating a full meal when hungry. If you re looking to experience middle eastern food this isn t the place, but it s worth trying as they have some interesting options and a pretty atmosphere.
Absolutely delicious food, great atmosphere, location is awesome, prices are fair
Unmatched high level of services. We went there for a dinner and it was just excellent. Food is excellent, very particular Mouhammara that I recommend, excellent spot. I recommend!
Disappointed. Tiny portions for a regular price, and I did not enjoy the taste. The salad was too sour, the steak stiff. I expected a nice restaurant meal, but got more of a $150 snack instead. They are way overpriced for what they serve
You know its going to be good when its full on a Tuesday night! Really loved everything on the tasting menu. Great choices of wines. Merci!
I think it is more of a bar than a restaurant. The food menu was super limited with the main dishes designed for more than one person. I was by myself in a business trip to Ottawa and was fooled by the high rating as a Mediterranean Lebanese restaurant. I had to leave before ordering as the chef refused to prepare smaller portions for one person.
Food was outstanding. Highlights include the stuffed vine leaves, labneh, fish, chicken and Brussel sprouts. Lovely presentation and outstanding service. Fantastic!
Went for valentines day. Food was delicious and the atmosphere was chic, yet coxy. The two of us shared the babaganoush, roz asfar and the Shish Tawook sharing plate. The service was excellent, the servers went out of their way to make sure my allergies were accommodated (gluten and dairy) and even gave us a special dessert for the occasion on the house. Highly recommend for a romantic evening. Dietary restrictions: Gluten and dairy free
Fantastic haute-cuisine Middle Eastern style food. Flavors are very delicately balanced and nuanced, allowing for tons of taste exploration in each bite. I recommend going with a group so you can get a variety of dishes to try. If you have to get just one thing, my recommendation for dinner would be the Confit Duck Pide. Venue is very intimate and cozy, even during the deep cold winters in our national capital. Vegetarian options: Some vegetarian options, but I wasnt able to try them on this visit Parking: Market parking in Ottawa Mostly paid parking all around the area and nothing specifically for this restaurant. This is normal for this part of town.
All the food was fantastic, and especially the babaganoush and the baklava. We had the fish. It was great We loved the uniqueness of each section of the restaurant having its own aesthetic look from the teal of the bar area to the classic ambiance of the dining room.
Great lebneh Awesome to have hot pita Great staff. Amazingly attentive. Maybe too much by 15%? The duck Pide was too salty Food : 3/5 |
Not great value for money - staff is great but some of the items we ordered were a total miss on taste. With a limited menu there is little room for mediocre chicken dishes.
Excellent dinner experience
Enjoyed a very good Sunday brunch from the visa infinite dinner series here. Wine pairings were excellently selected. Food was delicious with good serving sizes.
Had dinner here recently with a friend who is a huge foodie, we were both generally impressed with the quality of the food and the ambiance but menu lacked options. Starters were a little under whelming, Main and dessert were the two best parts. See photos for more details, overall I would return here mostly because the service was excellent and the ambiance was awesome
Beautiful location Excellent service Excellent dishes A favourite of ours Recommended dishes Hummus Baba Ghanouj, Shish Tawook
Everything was amazing. Service, food, drinks, ambience. Bring a few people and order dishes to share and try a bit of everything - its all amazing! Hummus and baba ghanouj come with fresh baked pita that are absolutely incredible. Roasted brussel sprouts were the best! So good!
If youre looking for a truly unique culinary experience, this is the place to go. Ive eaten there many times, including 3 times on my birthdays. The wine list is curated to the menu so you wont find the usual common selections found at other restaurants. We also found that the staff go above and beyond to ensure a memorable visit; for example, this week we asked to change tables after we had already been served water, and without hesitation, our waiter moved us, and did so with a smile. I appreciated the romantic corner table.
Dined here on Friday night after hearing great things and unfortunately left underwhelmed. The space is definitely beautiful and most of the food was good. The highlight from the meal was the hummus and lamb. However, the service was less than. After being seated we were not checked on for nearly 30 minutes. Our cocktails did not arrive until we were half way through our meal. We also were not warned that the halloumi was basically pumpkin pie and more fit as a dessert. We were really excited to come to Fairouz after hearing such great things but after the experience and service, or lack there of, we were disappointed, especially considering the price.
Overall, the food and experience was very good, but the price seems off. My family and I shared the 4 person shared meal. I think it was around 250$ before taxes and tips. There was plenty of food for all, the flavours were amazing , but 250$ for humus, pita, olives, chicken and a few other items is steep IMHO. I dont mind paying that amount or more for food, and I have done so at le Baccarat, les fougères and latelier, but I feel you get more for the money at these other restaurants. I dont regret going but I wouldnt go back unless they balance the overall value of the experience.
The atmosphere in this restaurant is great! Has a cozy feel and lovely decor. The staff is very kind and knowledgeable. I was a little disappointed with the shish taouk - it tasted and looked like a rotisserie chicken rather than the traditional spices of shish taouk but still tasted amazing. It is served on a bed of tabbouleh which was delicious too I wish they put more of it! The deconstructed muhammara was great too.
Went for a small birthday dinner here last week to try Fairouz after hearing great things. But the experience was fairly middling for me. We started with the babaghanoush and freshly made pita, the latter of which was herbaceous, laminated with fennel. But the babaghanoush left something to be desired as it was milder as opposed to smokey and tender. We then shared the shish tawook, which was a generous portion of juicy chicken and tabloueh salad. But I would have preferred a crisper versus more rubbery skin on the chicken and the toum (for the first time in human history) needed much more garlic. Also, the baklava was overcooked and lacking flavour. However, the service itself was lovely and the space is conveniently located and very cozy inside. Great option for tourists looking for something a bit above the rest, but for locals, Id say skip
Attention ! The menu on the internet is not the same as that on site. For example, squash is $32 online and $44 on site. Scam and disappointing. The tastes are particular halloumie cheese with whipped cream Dont go there!
I booked for my husbands surprise birthday party. We were all pleased with the food and service. Highly recommend this place. Food : 5/5
Wonderful atmosphere, attentive staff and great food. The food is a modern twist on Mediterranean food, with many vegetarian options. (also vegan friendly). We had the excellent hummus, some manakeesh (deliciousj, phonecian fries (okay) and our highlight, the fried cauliflower with sunflower, sesame and pomegranate seeds. Flatbread are great too!
Ridiculously bad experience, as a Lebanese you expect to go to a middle eastern restaurant and be astonished by the menu selections and food. Well, we were astonished by the lack of items, the bad taste as well as the crazy prices. You pay big, you get big. Our case was as bad as it gets. Tabouleh is traditional and its recipe is straight forward, at fairouz it was sour (the ingredients were definitely cut in a blender) The Shish tawouk is very very bland, far from being tawouk, the dish was simply unseasoned chicken (very well cooked but tasteless) The fatteh is not fatteh, we asked if we got the right item and we did. The drinks are inconsistent (cocktails) every cocktail tasted different and unimpressive. I asked the waitress who the chef was, she said he wasnt even middle eastern. That my friends is why such a beautiful restaurant is failing, nobody expects him to know how to make middle Eastern food the right way, He isnt the one to blame. Management is. Im very disappointed, i spent 80$ that night, 60$ on Fairuz, and 20$ on mcdonalds to make up for our hunger.
Table for 10, Friday evening, great service, great atmosphere, great staff, but the food is terrible. Nothing as described, the fatteh is not fatteh, tawouk is not tawouk, artichoke salad is not a salad, lahajoun is more spices than meat, everything is extra salty to hide the massacre the chef committed. Never making this mistake again, a $5 corner store has better food.
The restaurant is very classic, The problem is that the Sharing portions for two are not enough, The tawouk dish is not good, The lahme biajin is good The vine leaves still need cooking, I dont recommend the restaurant, its expensive and not that good,
The food menu has changed and the food is very bad
Bitchin, respectfully
Decided to come enjoy their weekend brunch which is fairly a new addition to their menu. Firstly, the ambiance early morning was very calming. Though located in byward market, this restaurant is a steps away from the busy parts. The restaurant itself has an outdoor patio & 2 different dinning areas. One seems to be more vibrant in colour the other room is dark interior with mood lighting. The brunch menu was a fusion of Turkish and parts of Middle East. Here is what enjoyed: Muhamara was our favourite, the perfect blend of cashew and red peppers. Stuffed Grape leaves were alright. Lubneh with Dukkah beats was tasty. The beets added a rich flavour to the yogurt dish. Beef lahmoujoun, the mint/dill sauce it was paired with was absolutely delicious. Turkish Egg, poached eggs with labneh. It was good but eventually the flavour of yogurt was too empowering & it needed a something to balance. I ended up mixing muhamara with it. Shakshuka, this was alright. Black seed pancakes, this was a savoury item served with tabouli. This was probably the least favourite on the table. The flavour was bland. Overall, the experience was good. The service was great! Our food arrived in a timely manner. The server did a great job at examining the menu.
Always delightful and a testament to the amazing Lebanese cuisine you can find in Ottawa. I ve basically been going to 4 reincarnations of Fairouz: 1. OG Fairouz on Somerset in the 90s/00s before it sadly closed. It was back then and was traditional fine Lebanese dining and always awesome. 2. New Fairouz on Somerset in the 2016-2020 era. Loved the new decor, the food and new takes on dishes, and service was . 3. Fairouz Cafe re-opening on Clarence in the Market. Loved loved and loved the new location and the casual vibe during the pandemic years. 4. The Fairouz we know now same awesome decor as (3) but more fine dining and again a total experience. Cozy in the winter and glorious in the summer with the two nicest patios in the city.
Had bisness dinner with colleagues Amazing service and great food. Ambient atmosphere!!! We shared dishes.all were good and tasty. The fish was amazing as well as the Brussels sprouts. The dessert was very light and good. And all were good. They serve Sloan tea. definitely would come back I have a chance:)
Good and fresh food. The ratio of price to portion is a bit insane. We got food that was said to be enough for 4 people and 2 appetizers, we each paid 55 dollars and left feeling hungry.
They changed the menu and increased prices. Fairouz has been our go to place for Lebanese Fusion food in Ottawa. Great food, nice service, pricy but worth it. Then they changed the menu, increased the prices and I think this will be the last time we go. The taste is still good, but does not justify the price. The portions also shrunk, making it even more difficult to visit. One should not spend this much and remain hungry. Ottawa is full of wonderful places to eat. Sorry guys, you over did it. Maybe we will be back if it becomes more feasible.
One of the best places in town
Super beautiful building well located. Beautiful decor, the waiters are very polite and professional but the food does not arrive. Expect a long wait time for a simple bite THANKS
The most despicable, appalling, and horrendous service I have received at a restaurant in a very long time. It completely ruined our Mothers Day celebration. So much to say, but Ill keep it brief: 1) No one attends to us until 45min after seating, and this is after asking twice to get some water or drinks 2) Water was never topped up during the 2.5 hours we were stuck there after repeatedly asking. 3) Food took forever; we never got our appetizers until 90 minutes after seating. 4) Over 2 hours have passed, and still no main course or any update from any staff member, at which point I kindly request to settle the bill and walk out. Somehow 2 min later, the food magically arrived, but the damage had been done. The manager adjusted our bill, which I would accept as an apology under normal circumstances, but this doesnt cut it. Even a free meal wouldnt. No monetary compensation can compensate for wasting time driving into the city to celebrate Mothers Day. Oh, the food quality, ya, its good. Still, I wont return as I value the minutes of my life rather than sit around starving and dehydrated in a restaurant that does not value its customers. Fairouz Cafe staff and management should be ashamed of themselves for how they treated me and other customers that I also overhead complaints from.
Had a delicious Mother s Day brunch. The muhammara and babaganoush were standouts, along with the cardamom coffee French toast. The pistachio croissant for dessert was a great way to finish off. Every dish was delicious though. The service was a bit slower but it is understandable given the business of Mother s Day and everything being made fresh to order, including the pitas. The staff s friendliness did make up for the slightly slower service.
Food is good quality but oddly presented -- the chicken shish tawook (and most mains) were only orderable per 2 people. And this dish was presented as a half chicken roasted and chopped up (mostly boneless) on top of a bed of tabouleh, soaking the tabouleh in chicken juices and heating it up. Ive never had hot chicken tabouleh before. Additionally, without sides (we had zatar and asked for more pita) there is no grain/starch to fill you (ie no rice for e.g.). The zatar was incredibly good, with fresh baked hot pita, but you had to mix it and apply it yourself.
Absolutely amazing food and service!!
Great taste, great service.!!! Food is good. The best Muhammara and Babaganoush my husband and I tasted. We notice a different better taste of the said food. Highly recommended. We are from Toronto!!!! :-)... Thank you!!
We went there on a Sunday for brunch and the terrace was inviting. The staff welcomed us with a smile and seated us outside. Their Phoenician Seven Market mocktail was excellent, and we then had the mezze (shared starters that make up a meal). The vine leaves, the muhammara, the labneh and the baba ganousch, everything was delicious. We will definitely go back to try the sofra. 5* well deserved.
I used to love this restaurant and it was one of my favourite places to go for lunch or a nice dinner. I am so disappointed since the menu changed. They got rid of all the dishes I loved and have increased prices. It s not affordable or appealing for me to go here anymore.
was expected authentic Lebanese cuisine, I didnt know i was getting charged for sparkling water until i got my bill wish i was given a warning, my friend also got terrible food poisoning an hour later. Felt judged by my server as well, I m sure no one intended to be rude or judgemental but its still the vibe I got. Food was honestly delicious in my opinion but wasnt pleased with anything else.
Honestly, to start off I was very excited to eat here since I heard such good things about it. But the service was horrible the waitress were rude. My friends wanted to share a plate and the waitress gave them Attitude. I got hmmus that had meat on it and honestly after I ate I got the worst stomach ache ever I don t know if the meat was bad. But tbh over all service was horrible rude staff and small portions. And to top it off it wasn t even true middle eastern food.
The patio is beautiful but the food was really bad. The pita were under cooked and raw in the center and the dishes were flavorless and tasted just like reheated old food. I expected more
We recently visited Fairouz. Every dish we tried was bursting with flavor and expertly balanced, offering a delightful journey for our taste buds. The service, while a tad slow with the main dishes, was still commendable, and the wait was well worth it. Fairouz may lean towards the pricier side, but given its status as a downtown fine dining establishment, its to be expected. Overall, it was a delightful experience, and Im definitely planning to return.
Horrible horrible horrible service at Fariouz. I booked a reservation for my birthday for 9 people. We were told we HAD to book the pre-fixed menu, with a 19% autograt, and I agreed happily. We were also assured they would have options for all diets (vegan, and celiac were included in my group). We arrived at 7pm, for our reservation time. Our first order of drinks did not arrive until 7:45. We had to remind the server of our agreement to get the Sofra offering, and she had to go back and check all of our documented allergies and figure out what we could eat for the Sofra. I would have assumed this would be handled before we arrived seeing as I made the booking and provided diet restrictions 3 weeks in advance. The first course arrived after 8pm, so we waited over an hour for appetizers on a pre-ordered meal. The second course arrived after 9pm. By the dessert course we were informed she wasn t sure what she could offer us with all of our crazy allergies and diet restrictions , so we were offered coffee instead. At this point it was almost 10pm and we wanted to leave so we just agreed to make it easier (she also for some reason insisted we were served the coffee cold, so it wasn t very enjoyable). This in my opinion is not acceptable, as we were assured there would be food that would accommodate all restrictions. We paid for a 3-course menu and were only delivered 2 courses. We were also charged for our modifications, such as being charged for cucumber instead of pita, which was not communicated at all until we received the bill. I will say, when the food did arrive it good. Not great, not bad. The wait times for everything were ridiculously long, such as waiting 30+ minutes every time we ordered a drink, or having the drink just not arrive. We asked for our bills at 10:00pm, and then again at 10:30pm, and we finally paid at 10:45pm. They had to fix our bills 3x as she kept putting the wrong things on the wrong bills. Not one other staff member jumped in to help check us out faster, even after it was apparent we were very annoyed and wanted to leave (we even asked the bartender for help). Normally I don t mind paying an automatic service fee, but at 19% we expected to be well taken care of. In this case, the 19% automatic tip felt like a joke. We had to continuously ask for water, drinks, the bill, etc. Not ONCE did the server apologize or even acknowledge the ridiculous wait times and poor service. My table of 9 people would never return based on our experience on Saturday night. TL;DR LOOONG wait times, cant accommodate dietary restrictions, poor service, expensive for what you get Dietary restrictions: They wont accommodate your dietary restrictions.
This place is wonderful and delicious! Amazing middle eastern cuisine, great music and friendly customer service! 10/10
Nice place to spend time, I did not like the vibe of the staff. The pita bread was not good. Good dining restaurant if you like Middle Eastern. Food : 2/5
A friend and I discovered this place by accident last night. The food was amazing. The service was excellent and our server, Melyssa was fantastic. Strongly recommend giving it a try. You won t regret it! Vegetarian options: Excellent selection. My friend is vegetarian and she was also very impressed.
Overall a very disappointing experience as I was really looking forward to celebrating my birthday at Fairouz. We did the tasting menu and as we were five people, the server supposedly added a fifth portion. To me it looked like we got the same menu as every other table without a fifth portion added, which I think is a bit of a deception. The service was extremely awkward and slow. It took at least 30 minutes for the dips to come from the time of ordering and then another 30 minutes for the chicken and fish to arrive. There was also one flat bread which was fine, but for the price I think another side wouldve been appropriate. The food was alright but definitely not worth it given it was 67$ a person. In total, dinner was almost three hours.... Too long. Thats not to mention the obscenely expensive beer. 14$ for a pint?! Like wow, thats nuts. There was also no music playing for a good part of the evening making the restaurant eerily quiet throughout the meal. It was not a good experience and I wont be back.
Good: The place is clean, aesthetically pleasing and very well put together, the ambience is nice and its a nice place to be at. Service was really good, however Id expect the waitress to do a little more such as offering suggestions and explaining dishes since this is a fine dining establishment. For context, we arrived on a Sunday night, with maybe 6 other tables seated at an avg of 4 customers per table. Bad: The food Stuffed Grape Vines: the rice was undercooked and had a crunch to it. Thats unacceptable really. The flavor was good. Beef kebab: the meat is tender, however its cooked to a medium rare which is unusual for middle eastern, I personally dont mind as I enjoy my stakes in a rare/medium rare, however this would be an issue for middle eastern cuisine. The meat was cool upon service, which is not ideal. Flavors were good, but slightly boring. The spicy labneh was mostly spicy, and didnt seem to add much to the plates flavor profile. The peppers included with the dish are already a good source of spice, so I question the chefs decision behind the spicy labneh? The dish can definitely be more refined. I wasnt very satisfied with it, especially given the price tag, leaves lots to be desired. Pulled Lamb pide: Salty, pulled lamb was dry (even had a little crunch and no, that wasnt the bread) which is pretty unusual for pulled proteins, especially lamb... also should be served hotter. To balance this dish, the pide already has a good crunch, the lamb should contain more moisture and less salt overall. This would just make it normal, Im not sure what would make it special. Knafeh: This was the best part of the night. The syrup was a little excessive to the point that the bottom layer of Kataifi was soggy. My suggestion would be to have a baseline sweetness met, then serve a supplementary portion of syrup on the side for self-service. The flavors were there however the sugar overpowers the aromatics from the roses and the orange blossom water that Im assuming was used in the syrup. Definitely room for improvement there. The presentation was nice. This was served at the appropriate hot temperature. Overall, Im sure most non-middle easterns wouldnt complain or nitpick anywhere near as much as I did. However, I would not take a person whos accustomed to higher quality middle eastern food here due to the culinary execution. I think Ill come back but without any guests, just because Im intrigued by the concept behind this restaurant. Id also like to see the chef better represent middle eastern food culture.
The food is nice enough, the cocktails are great and the staff are very friendly, but unfortunately price of the food really doesn t match the portion sizes. It s not on the cheap side and really not that great when it comes to value for money. The terrace out the back is basically a parking lot which doesn t match the price/up end dining experience they seem to be aiming for.
While the food and service were good, the price is outrageous for what you get. It may be upscale middle eastern fare but still not worth it. Two dips with a few extra pitas, a small pida (pizza) and a bottle of white wine cost over $200.
Amazing food for an amazing place. You certainly pay for the food but it does not disappoint. We had the summer truffle baba ghanouj and the truffle fried to start (best fries ever) and then the chopped lamb, lamb strip loin, and fattoush salad with beef kebabs. All was amazing and the Hemingway Habibis were great drinks. 10/10 would recommend
This was our third visit to this restaurant. The food and ambience were great as always. However the service was v poor. We had a reservation, but waited for the host for over 10 mins to be seated when the restaurant was completely empty. Some excuse about an event. The drinks took 40 minutes. The server was a young possibly new employee who didnt know much about the menu or drinks. It was my wifes birthday and she had chosen the restaurant due to excellent food and service in the past. Will still try it once again as it could have been a bad day for them. But after spending nearly $300, we were really disappointed.
Mediterranean with a luxurious twist .. i love it!
It is so incredibly offensive seeing my wife declined entry because she couldnt bring in her certified service animal. The server almost had a mocking careless attitude, and said it does not matter. Thats discriminatory towards any person with disability. I was excited to go there. Now I am completely turned off by that experience. If you have disability- stay away. No empathy whatsoever
Ive been visiting Fairouz since before their move to the 15 Clarence location. This place always delivers a fantastic experience! However, more recently, Ive noticed an unfortunate decline in the flavours, the options, and importantly, the portion sizes of the food here. I will continue returning to Fairouz, but heres my experience: Appetizers: Muhammara is ALWAYS exceptional here. Lots of pomegranates, lots of delicious walnuts, 10/10. They used to have a 3-dip sharing platter, but that has left the menu unfortunately. Definitely disappointed that the muhammara has gone up in price quite a bit, and remains in a tiny little bowl (probably 100g per serving or less). Still delicious, I often pop in just to eat a muhammara quickly. They have those shared flatbreads/pide. The duck was amazing, not very middle eastern, but still delicious. The lamb was also amazing. The flatbreads with the sojouk have left the menu unfortunately, and those had VERY traditional flavours (think heavy fenugreek, explosive paprika, lots of aromatic and perfectly acidic sumac)...another disappointment unfortunately. Mains: My biggest issue this time around was that all the mains have taken on a mandatory sharing-style format. Some great things on the menu have left, and quite frankly the biggest mistake here was removing the lamb burget with Labneh sauce. I cant really express my disappointment here, that was a mainstay of the menu, and one of the reason some of my friends swore never to return to Fairouz unless that burger comes back... Tawook became a half chicken, marinated, with some tabbouleh and NO rice. All for $60. Honestly a bit insulting; why would chicken be this expensive, and the quantity of chicken was TERRIBLE... And the rice is an add-on for $15...Too much. And this was intended for sharing, but come on...for $60 it better be a whole chicken, juicy, with tonnes of salad, rice, and sauce, with bread on the side etc...Still tasty, but whoever set these prices might be disconnected from reality. The lamb sirloin was amazing, delicious, and reasonably priced, and quite a good serving too! 10/10 here. Drinks: The mixologist/bartender here makes a mean cardamom old fashioned. 10/10. I dont think its on the menu anymore, but just ask for it. Desserts: Knafeh was 10/10 as well! We were all super pleased! My French-Canadian guests absolutely LOST their minds when they tried this, and my Arab friends were also similarly very pleasantly surprised! Overall: Great spot, great service, fantastic ambiance. Drinks are good, appetizers are great, desserts are fantastic. The mains are alright, honestly overpriced and great items left the menu. Our group of friends still regularly visits and orders a bunch of muhammara bowls, hummus, labneh, and babaganoush, with some drinks, and were set! The bread is also incredible! Price point is pretty steep given the serving sizes, but your taste buds will thank you. Improvements (for the restaurant): -Bring back the burger with labneh! -Increase amount of chicken in Tawook dish, or add rice to it -Bring back the trio dips, but the hummus and babaganoush in that trio dip should be plain (no fancy sirloin or truffle, just the original Jiddos-recipe-style dips) -More bread per serving! -Please bring back Jordan River wines! You had a Syrah not too long ago that was OUTSTANDING.
*Update* Human rights violation. Unacceptable. Was just denied entry with a service animal. When asked are you sure you are denying us, we were told it doesnt matter Owner has replied and provides false information. Their investigation lacks evidence and is clearly one sided, which is the server or host defending themselves... We were NEVER offered to speak to a manager. Also we were NEVER told the restaurant is short staffed. It was a very simplist NO YOU CANNOT ENTER and we pleaded it was a service dog, asked if you are denying us and we were told yes, is does not matter
Really good. Everything unique and unexpectedly wonderful. Highly recommended.
Meat in vine leaves, hummus and bread are all tasty and delicious
A bit pricey but excellent quality. The menu has shrunk since the pandemic so check it out online before you go. That said we shared 3 different mains and all were delightful.
We ate their with our family for our anniversary. This is a fine restaurant with absolutely delicious food, excellent service and lovely, warm atmosphere and decor. Highly recommended.
Our server Eleni was amazing and such a great host. The food was very good but the menu is very limited and on the pricy side. Our rating dropped as we were unfortunately sitting at the front of the restaurant facing the bar and witnessed the bartender repeatedly sneezing in his hands as he served drinks including ours without washing his hands. Quite the turn off.
Everything just perfect, and they deserve every penny Thank you everyone was there today 22/07/2023
Food is over priced and no flavour we paid 54$ for bad chicken
Just too good and perfect I recommend x1000
Outstanding food , wine selection and service. I cant wait to go back. Bravo chef!
Great service with delicious food. We had kids and it was super friendly.
Good food, good people, good vibes
We had hummus, leaf filling ( dolma) and lahmacun. I liked the flavor of the foods but hummus had so much sourness which made my tongue hurt. If it had less pomegranate sos ( I guess) it would be better. But other than that place is nice. Food
Food was fantastic. Service was abysmal. Restaurant was well staffed and not full but we did not have a server come to our table for nearly 15 minutes. We placed our order for a number of food items for the table and a couple bar drinks at the same time, noting a serious food allergy that required 1 item to be modified. Food began to arrive at a reasonable pace and the person (not our server) who delivered the food item with our allergy flag had no idea about the allergy and, when pressed, simply said if the kitchen knew then they took care of it -- not very reassuring. Drinks arrived after half of our food was on the table and eaten. Despite being basically ignored throughout the meal, the server was quick to get us the bill and process our payment and, at the time of payment, made really inappropriate comments about tipping - pretty tacky. Its unfortunate the experience was so bad because the food was genuinely fantastic. Giving 2 stars because the other servers looked to be really attentive to their tables. Would try again but only if we had a different person taking care of us.
To be honest, I didnt like the food. Dolma was like half-raw rice wrapped in leaves. Pide meat was very salty What I liked about the food was hummus. Served with pita 2 very small, you need to order more The waiters are strange, well, in principle, for such an establishment - they ll do it, but they re not very neat. I asked to charge the phone with my own cord and adapter, and the waiter sent me to charge the phone under the table and near the table at the exit, where every leaving guest could go out and pick it up. The toilet is neat, the only but is there is no soap They brought dessert and said that they were experimenting in the kitchen, so they brought it to the guests as a complimentary, but without dessert spoons. It turns out they have this dessert (Tahini trilogy) on the menu, and not the chef is experimenting Then she asked for dessert spoons and received tablespoons.
The food was great. The staff was nice and had a great ambiance.
Absolutely way over rated and certainly over priced. The notion that their pita is freshly made, certainly does not cut it. A small babaganush plate for $24! And a chicken Tawook for $54 is ridiculous. Service was horrendously slow. Won t be back. Very disappointing experience.
Large group on the covered patio eating set menu family style. Very attentive staff, delicious food just kept coming over the course of hours. Thoroughly enjoyable!
Fairouz Cafe in downtown Ottawa is a true gem with its stunning décor that transports you to another world. The standout dish for me was the confict duck pide a delectable balance of sweetness and savory flavors. The warm dates inside the pide were an absolute delight. Fairouz impressively modernizes traditional Arabian dishes, making it a must-visit for those seeking a unique culinary experience in the heart of the city.
I ordered the beef kebab and it was cold. The food isn t bad, just not great and especially for the price you re paying. The service was incredibly slow. I would not recommend this place to anyone. You can get better middle eastern food elsewhere.
Food was not worth the price and it was not authentic.
Overall, I was extremely disappointed by my experience at Fairouz. I went with a group of friends from work for a night of dinner and drinks. Upon entering I was surprised to see that other than the Arabic music, the ambiance and decor of the restaurant had nothing middle eastern related, not even a single piece of art work of a historic site in the Middle East. Let me say I understand that this is a fine dining experience but I left very underwhelmed and actually ended up going to shawarma palace because I was still craving a proper beef kabob platter. Although the restaurant has items like fattouch salad, warak enab and some other middle eastern items. It felt far from authentic middle eastern cuisine. I ordered the beef kabob and was surprised to see what I was served. 6 small pieces of beef over what they call pita bread and some greens. The labneh wasn t proper labneh (not supposed to be spicy) and the overall experience was very lacking of a middle eastern restaurant. Our server was extremely nice and very informative but to be honest I wouldn t recommend this restaurant and I find it disrespectful that they would name the restaurant after our wonderful Lebanese singer Fairouz as it has no business being named after her. I had been looking forward to trying Fairouz since they initially opened on Somerset but I won t be going again.
I had dinner here and was so disappointed. The portions were so small for the prices and the food was not good. $40 for kebabs which was about 6 pieces of meat that were not well seasoned, didn t smell like they had seen a grill and tasted a bit off. 2 tiny pita breads that were the size of my palm. Salty lamb pide, salty halloumi and mid hummus. Only thing that was sorta worth it was the $12 truffle fries and maybe the lemonade. Service was so slow. Middle Eastern places are known for generous portions and tasty food. This was disappointing!
We ordered the Sofra menu for 5. The appetizers were enough for 2-3, not 5! The mains came, again, small quantities, fish quality was bad, chicken not cooked enough! In summary, overpriced and not good food, definitely not going there again.
Had an excellent meal here. Reasonably priced. Good service.
The only thing I recommend from this restaurant are the truffle fries, fattoush salad and the mocktails. Other than that, food was absolutely terrible. The place is really nice and the staff is nice and welcoming. However, i had four pieces of chicken in my taouk plate which had absolutely no taste to begin with but also 3 of those pieces were over cooked meanwhile as you can see one is undercooked. When I mentioned this to the waitress, she ran to tell the chef without taking the plate of raw chicken with her and came back to basically tell me there s no way it could be raw because their cooking process doesn t allow that (in other words they overcook it) but anywho i was like maam please do not gaslight me this is raw chicken and she kept insisting that she could take this piece and put it back in the oven for me ??? I was very confused how are you telling me it s dark meat but saying it s okay lemme cook it some more also putting the chicken back in the oven when you failed to cook it properly the first time will overcook it 100% like??? Also for a 54 dollar plate I would expect a new piece of chicken ffs. Anyways she didn t come back to our table after that despite is being nice about the situation and we didn t press on it. Y all can judge the photo but that s raw chicken.
Great place, good location, nice vibe and excellent food!
We went here a couple of years ago, and had the chicken main (shish tawook or named similar), and it was honestly one of the best meals that Ive had. In addition, they make their own pitas which are great, and their dips are generally awesome. Drinks were excellent too. However... After that first delicious main, weve been consistently disappointed by the mains. Most recently my partner an I shared a fish meal that was terrible (chewy fish, that was fishy?). I dont think Ive ever made fish that poorly before. Furthermore, Ive had a bunch of misses on their appetizers. In spite of all of that, lebneh, muhammara, pitas, and drinks are all still fantastic (servers seem great too). But it kind of stinks that their mains: are not much food, are very expensive, and do not taste good.
Nothing Lebanese + We want to charge the mayonnaise without warning you.
The service could be slightly better but overall not bad at all, I d go again Dietary restrictions: Good halal options Food : 4/5 |
Great atmosphere but average food. We did go with the sofra menu rather than a la carte menu. The sofra menu had good amount of dishes and well plated but to be honest was expecting more. Overall a good experience but will not go there again for just food but just the experience. We did also order the truffle fries and they were great.
This was my first time to the cafe after many times at the old location. Its still very good and a favourite in the city.
Had another singles event, 3 course meal. First time here staff were friendly and helpful with dietary meals.
Staff were friendly and helpful with dietary meals. Food was great .
would be cool if they were still open for lunch
Small portion size, bit expensive, average food, but the service was good
It s actually saddening that I have to write a bad review to share our experience tonight and I hope it can be considered as a feedback as I did like this restaurant. I brought a couple of friends to Fairouz but I wasn t impressed by the service. The server was too loud as if he is working in a loud Irish pub! We were there for dinner in a upscale restaurant with candlelight and it was quite annoying that we had to try to avoid the server as he was too loud and rushed and not trained to serve in an upscale restaurant. The menu has changed and unfortunately the options are limited. What we ordered was delicious which means the chef is great but the prices were outrageous for the quality and quantity! There are good restaurants in Ottawa and such increases in price is a bit too much! I don t think I would return to Fairouz but I had some of the best foods there since many years back and it s sad that it has now transformed to something that s not as pleasant
Overpriced food in a beautiful location. We had their version of a roast chicken which was two chicken breasts, 0.5 cp of tabouli, 2 tablespoons of garlic sauce. Very underwhelming quantity in a beautiful presentation. $75 for two people, without wine.
First time tonight and neither my partner or I were left disappointed (we left full and happy actually!). Fairouz has a different take on the typical Middle Eastern dish. The flavour was just phenomenal - from the first to last bite. I really enjoyed the ambiance. Small, warm, and cozy. Our server, Felix, was also part of the pleasurable experience. Friendly, suggestive, welcoming, and knowledgeable too! Always great to be served by someone who knows their product. Was also attentive regarding the food allergens that were mentioned in the reservation. Thank you, Fairouz and Felix, for the lovely Saturday night dinner!!
Not sure what the fuss is about? We love Middle Eastern food. Truth is, wed never go back. We saw all kinds of reviews for the precious location, obviously something has changed. I hate slagging small businesses, but, when youre competing for dollars these days.....do it better. The warm olives were good.
Top of the line high end restaurant ! Eric is a great human being. The service and food were top notch ! Food : 5/5
We booked in advance for this weekend, The service was delayed , unplanned, overcrowded and staff were overwhelmed. Gaps between service was at least 40 minutes even though we ordered the Sofra set menu. We waited 45 minutes for the dessert which never arrived. A noisy , disorganized place. Sorry this was our birthday evening!! Spent almost 400$ on poor quality, small quantity and cold food! They did refund two cocktails we had , as a gesture as we did not wait for the dessert we ordered! But that s not want we came for!
I went here in December when I was visiting Ottawa. Its been almost 6 months and Im still thinking about how great the food was! Edit: It s been 4 years and I still think about this place. Especially the ice cream that I had for dessert.
Amazing Lebanese restaurant, had an excellent experience!
Food was eh. I do cook/grew up on middle eastern/Moroccan food but I still wasn t expecting much because I don t know the owner lol. The pitas, labneh and Kefta were good but all the other salads didn t have the right flavour/consistency. I felt like they made us fill up on bread bc the amount of protein payed for was ridiculously low. I paid $65 for myself. I thought for the amount of food that they provided for 4 people (Fairouz feast) that there s no way I would be looking at over $40, considering the setting and service to up the price. The service was frustrating as well, if you re adding a 20% tip to my bill I shouldn t have had to chase down a waiter/waitress for water. I m super disappointed and feel incredibly ripped off. The atmosphere was nice though, which is a shame that they essentially charged me $65 for a quarter of a chicken breast and one slider sized kefta patty. I won t be going back here but felt the need to save others from being disappointed. I don t often write reviews I work part time in the food/service industry as well. I typically write reviews for exceptional service/nice moments I had. Unfortunately this is a first for me.
