Coconut Lagoon prides itself on offering the very best in Kerala cuisine, fusing contemporary techniques with classic flavours and textures using local and sustainable ingredients. Our talented team brings Kerala inspired cuisine with an exquisite range of contemporary and healthy dishes that are created with flair, style and a deep respect for their ingredients. Seafood is central to our culinary soul. However, our menu also includes equally outstanding red meat, poultry, game and vegetarian choices. To fully appreciate the depth and breadth of Kerala cuisine, we would encourage you to share dishes with your fellow diners and taste a wide range of contrasting flavours.
Super cute spot that serves halal food. The service was good and the food was tasty, it was a little pricey in my opinion but everything had elavated plating and was pretty inside. Recommend making reservations!
Lovely family dinner. Very patient staff with my very indecisive mother-in-law 🤣. Incredible chicken, beautiful and flavorful dishes. I recommend this place for a romantic dinner as the ambiance is very nice. I think it is the restaurant with the best ambiance I have been to since I moved to Ottawa a month ago. Thanks to the staff and the chef for a great dinner ! ✨️
Elevated, elegant and warm atmosphere. Delicious food with amazing presentation. The mocktails we tried are the best we have had in Ottawa. Highly recommended.
We visited Coconut Lagoon in late August expecting the usual Kerala family style restaurant. It was not quite what we expected; the menu was short, atypical and there were few options for the kids. But exactly as advertised the restaurant is a "Modern Indian Restaurant". But everything they offer they do it well; quality over quantity. I'd describe it as Kerala fine dining; the concept is revolutionary. The ambience was beautiful and warm in a safe location. Indian food has always been presented as the "cheap take-out" food and seeing it presented in such a classy, elegant manner is surely a refresher. I wouldn't describe the food as purely authentic but as a more modern approach to the "traditional". All the desserts were amazing; light, refreshing and very pretty. The customer service was super inviting; especially the manager Saji. He's truly an asset to the team. If you're looking for fine dining I surely recommend Coconut Lagoon; you must try out this place for yourself. I do recommend getting yourself a reservation because tables are always packed and parking is limited. We had to wait half an hour because we dropped in.
The restaurant is beautiful, and the atmosphere is very nice. A very pleasant place to have a calming quiet dinner. Coming to this restaurant, we were aware of the pricing of the food and so we anticipated exquisite food that we wouldn't be able to find anywhere else. We ordered Ghee rice, but it was not what we expected. It seems like it was just onions fried in Ghee and placed on top of rice. I didn't feel like this was served properly, as I was anticipating the rice to be cooked in Ghee. The spicy options are very misleading as well, it's as if they're catering to more western culture. If you're familiar with Indian cuisine, the highest level of spicy level is more like Medium here. The curry was very mediocre, in my opinion, they're trying very hard to westernize the food and cater it to the western culture. Consequently, the prices are absurdly high because of the type of ingredients they're using. I had the duck which did not go well with a curry type of dish, additionally, the duck was incredibly tough and unpleasant to eat. For the price of the food, I would rather just eat and support traditional Indian restaurants. You will experience the culture, the food would be more enjoyable, more authentic food and your wallet won't be hurting.
Been wanting to come here for YEARS! Finally made it out here with my wife and parents to celebrate our wedding anniversaries. The staff was absolutely amazing and the food was to die for. We will be coming back! Definitely do family style and try as much as you can!
We had never heard of this place but went with relatives for “the tasting menu”. Top to bottom, so tasty! Excellent blend of flavour combinations, and the menu changes daily. The portion sizes were perfect- we all left full. Service was also top notch. Well worth tasting it for yourself.
Service was excellent, but food wasn't that great. Not popping with flavors, which Is expected from Indian cuisine, it's modern yes but not authentic food. Shrimp moilee was a shrimp and mango salad which tasted so bland. The porota and lamb korma was good. Lamb bruyani was good too but nothing exceptional. Mango Lassi was delicious but my mom wasn't a fan of the passion fruit drink. Very disappointing for the price but presentation and Customer service was exceptional.
The food is exceptionally delicious. Beware of the up-selling of additional items that you don t really need to round out your meal as servings are plentiful.
Excellent! First of all, it smells delicious as soon as you walk in. The restaurant itself is beautiful, as is the food. I was with a group of 8 and we mostly all ordered different things so I was able to taste probably half the dishes there and everything was excellent. The wait staff was very attentive. Would definitely go again (and Im not even a big fan of Indian food typically!)
I dont understand the negative reviews, this place had an amazing atmosphere for a date and the food was mind blowing. It also wasnt as hot spicy as most Indian restaurants so they took the care to cater to everyones tastebuds. The lamb I had was so good, it made me question my Balkan cuisine as we know lamb very well.
First time dinning at Coconut Lagoon and I was very impressed! The level of service and attention from staff was remarkable. The food was incredibly delicious and beautifully displayed and the ambiance was romantic! A perfect way to celebrate a special occasion.
Our first time at this place and i had call for the reservation and ask them to sit us either in a booth or in a corner if possible because it was a very special nite like every 29th. Nov. because me and my fiancée we celebrate our bday the same day .. every expectation was met and beyond with first class service and the food was excellent to every dish with there own taste and to top it off they serve us without asking a beautiful presentation of some dessert with 2 candles . Thank you very much again and we will be back for more !
Great menu selection, service is unparalleled
Great experience. keep it up.
Saji is the best restaurant manager in the business! Food and service is amazing .cant wait to return again and again with my family ..best East Indian food we ve had ever! We will continue to go to Coconut Lagoon as often as we can! Thank you Saji for running such a fantastic restaurant hope to see you this weekend!
Good food. Wish the menu had more visual descriptions. Or a link to pictures online.
Excellent food, thoughtfully executed and served, enhancing the overall experience.
One of the worst places I have ever eaten. The food is way to expensive and so small proposition zero taste and so long wait 0/100 I definitely will not recommend. Kid-friendliness: Not kid friendly at all
from just yesterday: Great experience overall, once again! We came here last year around this time (we live in Boston but come here to visit relatives) and during our visit we opted to come here again. Everything was again very good. The naan is superb, the KFC (kerala fried chicken) is kitschy but very tasty! Everything across the board was delicious except for the sauce that came with the scallops (which wasnt bad but it seemed odd, no one knew what to make of it and the person eating that dish avoided the sauce). Service was a little slower this time, but thats like most places these days that are suffering from not having enough staff. Ambiance is very pretty, understated, and nice - still a bit noisy so Id still like to see more sound absorbers. The ones they have are great, you dont notice them, but they might be too high up to make a big difference. Well definitely be back again, hope its still here next year! Review below was from early December, 2023: The service was exceptional and the visual ambiance was wonderful. The host came over several times to check in on us, which was very sweet. The restaurant is so nice that it feels intimate, but the place was full of people and conversation which did make it difficult to hear each other. I appreciated the sound absorbers on the walls as they did help to dampen the overall noise of conversations from other tables. I wonder if more sound absorbers around table barriers would help as well. Food was very good. We ordered the kfc appetizer as well as the pappadum, and for dinners, we ordered the chef special (lamb shank), mushroom curry, beef & potato curry, and chicken biryani. Everything tasted very fresh, not heavy, and very unique! How could I forget -- we also ordered parotta (naan). The parotta was the BEST we have ever had anywhere. I would go back just for this. The chicken and the beef were a bit overcooked in our opinion, but maybe that is the kerala style? We felt the meat could have been a little more tender if cooked a bit less. The lamp shank could actually have used a bit more cooking to help it fall off the bone more. The mushroom curry was spot on. Overall, the place deserves 5 stars. Everyone in the party was very happy and we will all come back again when we can.
The food was amazing the ambiance is soothing and warm and the service was excellent! Definitely worth going !
Went here for a birthday and it really felt like a special occasion. Food was wonderful for vegetarians and meat eaters alike Beautifully presented. Service was excellent and included a lovely desert for the birthday boy! Not sure why it look us so long to come back after the fire!
Food is great and service also!
This was an excellent restaurant. The staff were very helpful helping out people who were not familiar with the dishes on the menu. We were celebrating a birthday and they helped make it a memorable experience. It is a very popular place so you will need to make reservations. Parking: There is a limited number of parking spots by the restaurant.
The place is a vibe .. Loved the food and the ambience. Had a great time
Fantastic space, food was great. Service prompt. Cool cocktails. Was a super fun evening. Everything was nicely presented and the staff were very friendly. Well recommended!
Came in for a gathering. Great decor and vibes! Food had a variety of meat and veg options. It is a bit noisy even on the upper floor with a little privacy. Something to keep in mind when situating tables and booths. Parking cab be difficult to find on site. Street parking can be an issue if it is overcrowded in the evenings.
The food was delicious - I could nitpick, but we were very happy with the food itself. The service, however, was not great. Perhaps because we were seated at the same time as a large birthday party, but our server rarely checked on us, we waited for an hour and a half for our food, and they were even slow to bring the bill. Because the food was great, we would have loved to have gotten dessert, but we didn t want to risk waiting another hour for one dish. Hopefully this was a fluke, but it left us with a very mixed experience. Parking: Very few spots in the lot, we had to find parking on the street
I just love it , is the best!
We bought two lamb biryanis today, but honestly, the food felt overpriced at $27 due to the small portion size. The boxes were quite small, which contributed to the lack of quantity. I won t ever suggest/consider buying again.
Good food and service, presentation and taste was very good. Tables could be a little bigger based on the space available on the 2nd floor. Overall a very good experience, but it was a little loud / noisey (the building architecture is the issue). I will come again for sure (April 2024). Came again today (Oct 5 2024), was a little disappointed. Lamb chops were much smaller and slightly over cooked (look at older pics and todays pic) overall food taste was ok. Vegetarian options: Many
Excellent Food. Friendly welcoming staff.
Ottawas best south Indian restaurant, imho. The only restaurant i know which got a certificate by a Canadian prime minister (Harper in 2014) for its 10th anniversary.
Loved the old Coconut Lagoon, but with the newly renovated building, its on a new level. Tasting course with wine pairing is worth the price. Amazing food, excellent service. Only gripes are that its not in the nicest part of town and the parking area is too small (but free, at least).
The service was great, although it was a bit expensive. We ordered shrimp and beef. Shrimp tasted very good but I cant say this about the beef. Parking: There are customer reserved parking spots available.
Outstanding.
My guest and I had the lamb biryani, butter lobster masala dish and the crab samosa starter. The samosa was very delicious and crisp. The lobster masala was a very small portion but it was still nice and different. The lamb biryani was a letdown however. As seen in the picture, the rice was cold and mushy and the flavours did not incorporate well at all. The paratha style flat bread was very delicious however.
Very rude receptionist/manager.
I had the Salmon curry. Was very good. I prefer a little more thick and spicy but thats just me. Overall quality is always pretty good and consistent. Food : 4/5
I ve known this restaurant since 2012, and back then the food was incredibly authentic and flavorful. Now, with a modern two-floor setup and a cozy ambiance, it s still a nice spot, especially for introducing someone to Indian cuisine. While the food isn t quite as tasty as it once was, it s definitely more popular, so the changes seem to have paid off. A suggestion: adding some background music could help with the noise from other tables. The service is decent, though it would be nice if the staff were a bit more friendly. I don t think I ll be returning, but best wishes to the team! Parking: Not easy to find street parking.
Very slow service. Took over an hour to receive food but the food made up for the wait. Was delicious.
Finally got to experience the new Coconut Lagoon, on the patio! Wonderful experience. The patio is pretty nice considering it fronts onto St. Laurent. The interior is gorgeous.
Opted for the Chef s table-vegetarian, to accommodate 2/4 of us who don t eat meat. Food was fantastic, staff were attentive and all in a pleasant atmosphere . We will definitely return.
Great food and had a meticulous experience here Food wait is alright but others good experience!
I recently visited Coconut Lagoon with high expectations, particularly after seeing Calicut Lamb Thattu Biryani on the menu. Being from Kerala, I know exactly how this traditional dish should taste, and I was excited to experience the familiar flavors. Unfortunately, the dish that was served was shockingly far from the authentic Calicut Lamb Thattu Biryani. The flavors were bland, the texture was off, and it lacked the richness and complexity that defines this iconic dish. When you label a dish as Calicut Lamb Thattu Biryani, customers anticipate authenticity. Sadly, what I received was far from it. I strongly recommend that Coconut Lagoon either adjust the recipe to better reflect the true flavors of this Kerala specialty or rename the dish to avoid misleading customers. The version served here was a disservice to the real Biryani. Moreover, the poor quality of food was compounded by the subpar customer service. The manager, a man with a mustache, was incredibly rude and unprofessional during our visit. His unfriendly demeanor and lack of basic courtesy made the dining experience even more unpleasant. Good customer service is essential in any restaurant, and this was severely lacking. For anyone seeking authentic Kerala cuisine, I recommend looking elsewhere. The food at Coconut Lagoon is overpriced, lacks authenticity, and is served with poor customer service. This was one of the worst dining experiences I ve had in a long time, and I certainly won t be returning.
Very nice restaurant with good food and amazing service!
Fantastic menu. Every dish in our seven course tasting menu was delicious. Will come again!
We went last night for my father s 70th birthday and loved it ! They did forget to bring my entré but I ended up having my husband s as he ordered one by accident and didn t want it. I found the portions to be a good size and found the pricing to be comparable to nearby chain restaurants, which made our visit to coconut lagoon to be even more worthwhile. The servers were very polite and pleasant and My father and husband had the beef ribs and I had the lamb biryani. We also had the K.F.C and scallops to start. The food was delicious ! We will definitely be back ! Parking: Limited parking spots.
Really enjoyed a nice dinner upstairs. Our waitress was very attentive, despite it being quite busy. We had scallops and croquettes as appetizers, which were both great. We had a lobster curry as our main with parotta bread and rice on the side. The curry was excellent with large pieces of lobster and the bread is outstanding. Weve been here before and Coconut Lagoon has again done a fantastic job. Give it a try.
The service ok. Restaurant decor has nothing to do with Indian culture. Food more western, no Indian food flavor at all. Especially sea food. I will NOT recommend the chefs tasting menu.
One of the best Indian restaurant!! Very delicious. I recommend you all to try it out.
Really nice dine in kerala restaurant. The malabari lamb biriyani we ordered was splendid. 1 biriyani was just enough for one person. But the price was soo expensive to be honest. Other than it was expensive it setting and service was top notch.
We (4) selected the tasting menu and were absolutely blown away! Service was well paced and each dish was outstanding. Will definitely recommend and look forward to a return visit!
This is an amazing taste experience for Indian food made to your liking. Offering mild, medium or hot taste each dish is thoughtful and comes to the table piping hot. The waiters are attentive and we lacked for nothing. Service was impeccable .. Parking: Limited parking, but street parking is available. Wheelchair accessibility: Ground level entrance, washroom on main floor, parking near the entrance.
The food is very flavourful and varied and deserves 5/5 stars. Had to take 1 star off because charging $7 for a small side portion of rice is unreasonable. More transparency from the servers regarding the portions and quantities of the sides would be appreciated as well.
Coconut Lagoon is a standout restaurant in Ottawa, seamlessly blending modern flair with authentic flavors. The service is attentive and friendly, creating a welcoming atmosphere from start to finish. The decor is tastefully done, enhancing the dining experience without overshadowing the main attraction the food. Each dish is a testament to genuine, delicious Indian cuisine, with flavors that truly shine. Whether you re a fan of Indian food or just looking for a memorable meal, Coconut Lagoon is definitely worth a visit.
Extraordinary, nothing less.
First visit since they reopened. The space is very open compared to before. Service was fantastic. Food was well presented, flavourful and delicious. Cant wait to go back. Wheelchair accessibility: Ground floor is accessible, no threshold as I recall. I didnt visit the bathroom but they are on the same floor.
Enjoyed the foods and service here with my co-workers. My favourite is the KFC chicken and chef s signature of the day. Definitely will come back.
Took my husband here for his birthday. Its his favourite restaurant. Didnt disappoint. We loved it.
I have eaten here several times. It is my goto restaurant for special occasions. The maître de - Saji makes you comfortable and sees to your every need. Food and service are outstanding. Parking: Parking is limited to around 8 spaces but there is plenty of street parking.
I never had several full pieces of salmon before. Kinda pricey, but you get your moneys worth.
Great spot for South Indian food. Went there for a special celebration and the place didn t disappoint from the moment we walked in. Great food, great atmosphere, and great service. Definitely will consider it for future celebrations or for going out to a fancy restaurant. Parking: There are a few limited spots to park in front of the restaurant, with some street parking which can be hard to find.
Nice Kerala restaurant in Ottawa
This is our favourite place been going for over 20 years just really great every time!
Amazing stylish place in the middle of a not so nice looking neighborhood, I am still surprised about this place choice of location. The restaurant was even rebuilt in the same location after it was consumed by a fire several years ago. I went there for dinner before the fire and, though, expensive, it was worth it with great food and service. Very recommended.
Worth it!
Went for a early dinner at Coconut lagoon and had a really good time . The presentation was really attractive and the food did have the amazing flavour to it .
My recent dining experience at this Kerala-inspired restaurant , left me thoroughly impressed. Initially hesitant about the concept of Kerala fine dining, I was humbled by the outstanding quality and extravagant flavors of the dishes. The ambience was superb, complemented by excellent customer service. The attentive staff, including the front of the house manager, ensured that our needs were constantly met. We were so impressed that our entire table decided to order another round of mains. Although we didnt have the opportunity to try the chefs tasting menu this time, its definitely at the top of my list for my next visit. A must-try for anyone looking for a memorable dining experience!
Extremely slow service, we had to change our order twice as they didn t have what we asked for on the menu, very small portions and over the top expensive. Taste was okay but nothing to get excited about. All over, it s no longer like the old place before the fire and we will not be going anymore. Quite disappointing
The restaurant is over priced and the poratas was very thick and over toasted very bad experience
Owner and Chef Joe is person that you want to meet and call a friend. I met him for the first time tonight where he prepared food for our company event and I was blown away! His food is amazing and I appreciated him giving back to the community. Thank you chef Joe!
Amazing food, exquisitely plated, sure to tantalize your taste buds. The Tellicherry lamb chops never disappoint and the jackfruit ice cream is my new favourite! Watch out for the chemba idiyappam, as soft as it can get, just melts in your mouth.
Biriyani was not so great compared to other Biriyani places in Ottawa.
- Kerala Fried Chicken ($18): Some of the juiciest and best fried chicken I ve ever had. Delicious. Would come back here just for this. - Duck Roast ($30): Excellent, would also strongly recommend. - Lamb chops ($20): Pretty good. - Lobster Masala ($39): Not a fan. Great lobster portion (way, way, way more than Whalesbone for example) but I think it could have been softer and also chopped up as opposed to being a large chunk. - Lamb Biryani ($28): OK - Coconut and mango mousse ($12) - Think you can, overall, get a decent bang for your buck ($190 after tax/tip for a lot of food). - Service was okay. Waiter didn t bring out new cutlery after the previous ones were taken away, and our water was sometimes empty. But they knew it was my partner s birthday and they provided a free desert, so that was appreciated.
Their service is tooooo slow . The girl just took the order and never came back we have to tell her we need food and waiting for almost 45+ minutes That kind of customer service we never expected food was good no doubt but they have to improve customer service Food
As a Malayalee, I can say that this is the worst place to have Kerala food. No food has the taste of Kerala Cuisine. Also, the quantity is very less compared to the price. To non malayalees, my recommendation would be if you are looking for authentic Kerala food, please find regular restaurants. But if you just want to spend your money and show off then this is best place.
Amazing experience. Had a fantastic dinner at Coconut Lagoon last night! The food was incredibly flavorful, service was top-notch. Thanks to Natasha for great service and spot on recommendations. Scallops and lamb appetizers and shrimp entree are must try. Definitely going back.
One of the best restaurant with very good ambience and customer service. The food is of premium quality. Loved this place. Must to go place !!
Highly anticipated first visit was well worth the wait. Lamb shank and lamb biryani were outstanding. Everyone was v attentive and while they were busy, we never felt rushed. We will be coming back
Hey manager or high authority, I recently visited with my girlfriend. Food it top notch 9/10 out of mind but you know I will ever come back or recommend this to any couple visiting here..!! There is a guy here who is working who was taking reservation. One guy will spoil the whole reputation of this beautiful restaurant. We had an unpleasant experience and it was so uncomfortable to spend time. Please fire him or hire people who sees ladies as family It s not cool and I am really disappointed. Will never ever recommend this restaurant to any couple or single ladies. EVEN YOU PROVIDED GOOD FOOD YOU GUYS FAIL TO GIVE A SAFE ZONE. WILL NEVER COME BACK. #guy with a moustache , clean shave. Please do not ask to contact the restaurant to solve the issue. You guys take action if you value customers !! Thanks, Regular customer but not anymore.
Phenomenal southern Indian food - rebuilt location looks great too. Highly recommend.
We went there for our anniversary dinner. The food was delicious and the ambience was perfect for the occasion. And the service was top notch. Highly recommended
Tonight was my first time at Coconut Lagoon and it didn t disappoint. I live about 45min each way but 100% will be coming back. The food was top notch, lovely atmosphere and the owner greeted us like we were old friends or family. Wheelchair accessibility: My partner is in a wheelchair, and the first thing I did when I left was call him to tell him that I found us a new favourite spot that he can easily access. Double opening doors and buttons
I ate at Coconut Lagoon for the first time last night. Blown away is an understatement. Everything that we tried was amazing and the staff were incredible. Very attentive, knowlegeable and fun! Thank you so much Coconut Lagoon! I will be back for sure and if you are looking for an absolutely incredible meal, this is your spot!
Food is really good, staff is super nice and friendly. Highly recommend this place if u are looking to try southern Indian (Kerala) food. will be back there again.
Fire the guy with Mustache who works as a host, if you really care about your business. He was very rude and mean. Never going back in my life ever again.
We tried take out for the first time from Coconut Lagoon .. wow!!! It was incredible. Each dish has a different flavor profile and it was so fresh. Generous portions. Thank you, we will be back!
I ordered seafood soup and lamb biryani for takeout. They didn t put the cutlery, how can one eat soup without spoon?.And the food was not pleasant. The soup had only two pieces of shrimp and nothing else but lot of oil. Definitely that s not the food with gourmet prices. I went there only after google reviews but actual is different than reviews. Bad experience.
What a wonderful place! From the moment you walk in, smelling the amazing aromas, until you leave with your taste buds still tingling, was such a great experience. The staff are friendly and excellent at giving recommendations - which did not disappoint at all. The service was outstanding! The food was very well presented, fresh and so flavourful. We were a group of 8 and no one was disappointed. Coconut Lagoon will see me again for sure.
Greetings management dear founder, I am rehan writing this with so much pain in heart.. I am an often visitor to this restaurant from toronto. I come here to whenever I come to Ottawa. But today I came with my wife n two daughters n we had a really bad situation. There was a person in the restaurant who was so abusive n the way he looked daughter in such a sexual offensive mannner which is unacceptable Is it the way you guys treat families?? WILL NEVER RECOMMEND THIS RESTAURANT TO ANY FAMILIES SPECIALLY LADIES. There is way to treat the ladies n there is way to see people as your family regretful n i don t want to be a customer n thanks for his mindset you guys lost a regular customer. I have attached his picture below. Thanks
A good place with a nice ambiance, offering South Indian cuisines with a Western touch and excellent presentation.
I dined in for dinner with some friends. I had the vegan choice of Wild mushroom cury dish. I didnt find it as flavorful as described in the menu. I also didnt find it very filling. I was shocked to Discover that side dishes like Rice of your choice Was Not included in the price. For this reason and others, I found it expensive. I was impressed with the service, but I believe that is because some of the group found the entree over cooked. We got free dessert for that reason, I believe. I was also charged for water on 1 recept. I received a second receipt, which had the price of water taken off. I order what I would suspect is the signature alcoholic drink, it is a gin drink with lemongrass. I enjoyed the drink but again didnt find it flavorful. I would not recommend this restaurant to friends or family. I also had to eat more once I returned home.
This place has a beautiful atmosphere. Cocktails were just ok. Food was great, but not as extraordinary as I was expecting. We had the Red Snapper and Duck - Meats were cooked perfectly, I really enjoyed the sauces and thought the dishes were well balanced, but my husband wished they had more spice. I wish our waiter had been a bit more attentive, we would have liked a second round of drinks but he never came around. Overall, a good value for great food.
Worst service ever and the waitress was sloppy. I wouldnt go there again!
We had an absolutely delightful meal. Well prepared, well seasoned and generous portions. It was so good I forgot to take a picture of my meal so you ll have to go yourself if you wanna have a look
Havent been since the renovations (sorry). Looks amazing! One of my favorite restaurants in Ottawa! Food is delicious, service is fantastic, and the ambiance is fresh. A must go resto!
The place is fancy , dining and food was okay, food overpriced. I was expecting more in flavours. The meal did not come with rice as it was an additional price. Sparkling water is $7.00 per bottle, and the host did not inform us about it until we asked. The host manager went around and greeted other tables except our table, and our table spent about $500.00. Preferential treatment was given to others. We wait 40 minutes for our meal to be served. Vegetarian options: Variety of vegetarian options.
Wooow, an incredibly kind chef, refined and truly delicious cuisine Thank you so much for this amazing experience!!!
The food was excellent. The mushroom curry was particularly delicious. The service was good up to payment. We paid cash with two 100 notes and the waiter didnt return the 60 dollar change. I dont know if its common practice in Ottawa but where I come from you dont pocket the change assuming its a tip. You return the change and only then does the customer leave a tip.
Wonderful food paired with excellent service
Coconut Lagoon exceeded my expectations with its delightful blend of authentic flavors, impeccable service, and a warm, inviting ambiance. The diverse menu offers a tantalizing journey through South Indian cuisine, showcasing the chefs expertise in creating memorable culinary experiences. I highly recommend Coconut Lagoon for anyone seeking a top-notch dining adventure.
Too expensive for what it is. The very meh duck.
I make sure to try something new each time. So far, Ive been twice. Im terrible with the names of dishes, but every dish has exceeded my expectations. I highly recommend The Coconut Lagoon, without hesitation. Cheers Dietary restrictions: There were many tasty dishes to choose from that had neither lactose nor gluten. Parking: At 6 p.m. on a Friday in February, there were 2 spaces left in their parking lot. We felt fortunate.
Incredible tasting menu, with wine and mocktail pairing. Highly recommend this tasty feast!
Delicious
I found it to be very average Indian food that is ludicrously overpriced, especially when the portions were so small. I would not go back. The server was very nice.
The interior is stunning and the bar area is beautiful. It is nice being able to enjoy Indian cuisine with a more refined preparation and presentation - you can tell that the chef puts a lot of care into staying true to the traditional flavours and ingredients. The location is fairly isolated which is the only real disadvantage but it is worth the drive.
This is now our must visit restaurant when we come to the Ottawa area. My teenage son insists we visit. The flavours are amazing all around. Our favourites are the lobster and salmon and kerela fried chicken. The servers are so friendly and helpful. It is a great place for an amazing meal and special celebrations! Parking: It s not a huge lot. But there is other parking nearby.
A very exquisite experience. Was unsure at first due to seeming out of value range, but the entire offering made it worth it. Quality food, curated menu, contemporary atmosphere. Pleasant staff with efficient and considered service. Flavours were top notch with intriguing dish options. NOT your average Western Indian Resto. Vegetarian options: Many items vege and clearly indicated. Parking: Slim lot alongside building and excess cars lining the adjacent residential neighbourhood.
Overall a great experience. The flavours are quite authentic. The portions are generous, I was full with one parotta. One note though: if you don t like strong tamarind taste then stay away from the alleppy salmon curry. Definitely going back to try other items on the menu!
Visited Coconut Lagoon for the 1st time for our anniversary dinner; the food and atmosphere were both very good. The only thing that put us off was at 1.5hrs into our reservation we were asked by our waiter if we were leaving soon as they had other reservations, its a shame as that put a damper on our otherwise lovely evening.
Food was delicious and the lobster c
Upon arrival we were pleasantly greeted and seated by Mohi the Maitre D, whom was very friendly, hospitable and funny. The Manager Saji and his team were flawless in their service delivery from start to finish. A team effort provided a level of service that was prompt and precise with an attentive flair, catering to every request in a warm and home like fashion. The cocktails were presented modernly well and looked and tasted amazing. We decided to go with the Chefs menu. Every course was executed beyond expectations, from presentation to taste. Several courses were delivered by Chef Joe himself, and verbally described to make your taste buds water before even digging in. Overall the ambiance was just perfect, food and beverage knocked our socks off and service second to none. Value cant be beat and my wifes birthday dinner night out was just right. Thank you Chef Joe, Saji, Mohi and team for making this possible.
The price you are paying goes to the atmosphere and the service, Ive had better Indian at cheaper price points in Ottawa but those places dont have the atmosphere that this place has.
What Awesome food the best Indian food in Ottawa When ever in Ottawa this place is a must try The food here is above and beyond expectations Was here a few months back ordered coconut chicken shrimp and lamb was so so good The bar menu is so different and awesome The ambience is super awesome The interiors are beautiful , the service is awesome too warm friendly and helpful servers Every item on the menu is wow!! Different and good Would definitely recommend this place in Ottawa so not miss eating here it s a experience to remember!!
We were two couples. One had the chicken dish, one had the special of the day (lamb shank) and two of us had the shrimp moilee. Everything was delicious! The atmosphere was nice, the service was excellent and the food outstanding. They also had a good menu for cocktails, beer and wine. The cocktails were very good. It was pretty busy on a Thursday evening so I was glad we had made a reservation.
Hands down the best Indian food experience in Ottawa in my 57 years. The quality of food, the service, atmosphere were all superb. A treasure of a place. Highly recommend and glad it was recommended to us.
Amazing food and service!
After the renos (2.0), the new interior looks great. The waiting staff were excellent and the food was awesome. Was nervous about no butter chicken but the kerala friend chicken and the quilon chicken were awesome suggestions from the waitress. A tad on the pricey side, but very filling and awesome tasting! Parking can be a bit tight, try to get there earlier, otherwise, street parking is it.
Delicious Kerala cuisine, beautifully presented and great service. The meals were adapted to the level of spice desired by every person without altering the overall taste of the dish itself. I had the lobster masala with their bread and I was very happy with my dish selection. The value was great for the quality and the amount of food we received. The place is quiet to encourage conversation but it is a bit dim and some people had a bit of trouble reading the menu. This is definitely a place I would come back.
food was unreal. lamb shanks were incredible, and the bihryani was fire. service was amazing too. this place is the real deal
Excellent dishes, well prepared and tasty. High level service.
Tasting menu is the way to go, but arrive hungry! Everyone left loving the experience.
Good Indian food at decent prices and nicely renovated establishment. Would recommend if you wish to eat non-buffet quality Indian fare.
Amazing Food/Atmosphere/Service
We had an incredible experience here. We celebrated an anniversary and our expectations were exceeded. The interior is beautiful. The ambience is spot on with soft music in the background. The service was fantastic, the staff were so knowledgeable of every single item we ordered. The food came quick, the drinks were tasty. An absolute pleasure, will be back for sure!
Great Food Day Canada meal and experience. Ray the sommelier is amazing and paired everything perfectly. Will definitely go back.
I would say ONE OF THE BEST places to have authentic Indian food! Ordered some lamb chops and they were oh so succulent and well done! The lamb curry with the parotta reminded me of time spent in Trivandrum .Wether it be the prawn curry, the egg plant dish, vegetable croquettes, the desserts, whatever we tasted, it was just PERFECT! The ambience and the friendly service just made the experience even more fantastic! I WOULD SAY ITS A MUST VISIT if you are in or planning a visit to Ottawa.
This is one of my favourite restaurants in the city try everything but start with those savoury doughnuts 2023 update, sadly in retracting a star, their decor is now a little on the fancy side, their prices are up, and most importantly, their food has lost some bite, the flavours have decreased as their clientèle have changed. While I dont blame them, it is after all, a business, I am unimpressed. What I was told was medium spice had no heat whatsoever, and in general the flavours seemed watered down.
One of the best restuarant I have ever been in. Their lamb chops is a must try but can you confidently order anything and you will love it .they have taken Kerala food at a whole new level
Were so happy we finally made it to Coconut Lagoon! We had: > Beetroot & veggies croquettes; crab samosas - both appetizers tasted super fresh and were absolutely delicious. > Dish of the day (rack of lamb) with kerala parotta - so flavourful! > Kuttanadu duck mappas with ghee rice - the duck was so perfectly cooked, and the rice really paired perfectly. > Coconut and mango mousse, nougatine; nutmeg vattalappam - the mousses were so luscious, and the custard was really tasty! Service was very friendly and fast! The sommelier really knows his stuff and was able to recommend a delicious wine.
The staff are polite and know their food. Create drink selections. Love that they support local winery, distillery, and brewery.
Could not say enough good things. The food was INCREDIBLE. The staff were attentive, kind and knowledgeable.
Decent food and nice location but not cheap. $300 for a family of 4.
The curried salmon (Kerala dish) was the best!!
, the service is outstanding and the price is amazing for the complexity of the flavours. There is also a wonderful sommelier that will take great care of you.
This was over the top delicious! From the mocktails to the apps and the entrees, we were continuously impressed. The service is impeccable from the moment you walk in the door. Definitely will be returning.
Stylish venue with an interesting menu. Food was tasty, though a bit pricey. It all adds up and it s hard to get a meal for two for under $100, all in. Like in many restaurants these days, the server seemed unhappy to be working there, while trying to hard to upsell us with drinks, appetizers, etc.
A more fine dining take on indian food than were used to, featuring an assortment of fancy meats and seafoods. In general these meats were of good quality and cooked adequately, with some exceptions such as the undercooked duck. All of our dishes were severely under seasoned, with the crab samosas being particularly bland. I found the portion sizes to be minuscule given the high prices. In most Indian restaurants you will find that they give you a ton of gravy but are stingy with the meats. At Coconut Lagoon, both were lacking, such that there was nothing to dip our bread in (bread that we had far too much of due to the server misleading us as to its size). Once we added a salt, the dishes were good and the rest of the flavors were balanced. As for non-food elements, the decor is good but the music is obnoxious. Service is what youd expect. Overall a fairly average experience, overpriced and no better than your local places butter chicken.
Excellent evening out. Wonderful food, great service and fun vibe. Packed inside and out. Great spot.
To say the food is amazing still wouldnt do it justice I would eat here every day if I could, the staff are absolutely incredible as well. I will recommend this place to anyone who likes this food.
Insulted us badly.they dot want our kids to sit.our small kids make little noise. They don t consider as guests.. very very bad.
I was there for my friends birthday. It was so satisfying to see how the team of the restaurant were very nice and the food was very good.
Not family friendly, especially, if you have children. Priority for white people. Bad experience.
The new Coconut Lagoon is beautiful. Very nice inside. The food is the same AWESOME. The best naan bread ever. Would go back again soon.
Modern and crowded, but classy environment and staff. Food was refined and tasted good but expensive, especially for the size of the portions. We had their specialty roast leg of lamb and I had to scrape to the bone to get enough meat for each of us to have some. A few skinny heirloom carrots and grape tomatoes were scattered on the plate. I had to count them, so as not to take more than my share. There was sauce, but only enough to coat the bottom of the plate. Luckily we are two senior ladies and not hungry. A bowl of rice was $7, which doesnt sound like alot, but its plain boiled rice. Without alcohol a small dessert and 2 cups of tea, we paid $70 each. When I got home, I was hungry. If cost is not a consideration, order more dishes, the food is tasty and service excellent!
Exceptional Indian fine dining! Impeccable ambiance, and the staff is simply outstanding. A delightful culinary experience awaits at this gem!
Wonderful ambience , excellent guest service and authentic south Indian taste , Duck mappas with noolappam and kerala parotta was amazing - kudos for the chef Food
Amazing food and exceptional service!
I was there for dinner with my friends,,compare to the old restaurant ( before it burned down) the food is very expensive,I had shrimp moilee 30$ and thought rice was included,, 7$ a scoop of rice? I guess I m paying for his renovation,,, never go back again over priced and didn t waaaaooo me . Missed my old coconut lagoon.
Ordered butter chicken and it failed to disappoint! Rich, creamy sauce with a refreshing hint of cilantro My guest ordered coconut shrimp curry which I had a taste of, it was spectacular with jumbo tiger shrimp First visit went very well, highly recommended Revise First visit after relocating, rice was totally bland, no pinch of salt or flavor Shrimp dish was disappointing, runny tasteless sauce, shrimp pieces were delicious and big though and well cooked. Not overly and dry $17 for a cocktail! Overly priced and taste is noy there anymore, not much value for your money Atmosphere is fantastic though
The service was great, it was obvious they are doing their best to welcome customers and give them god service, the food was good too! Parking: They have a parking lot right in front of the entrance.
Absolutely amazing dining experience. The staff are terrific, professional and pleasant. The food is insanely delicious. And the atmosphere is an experience in and of itself!
It s hard to find food this tasty in India. Very impressed. Dietary restrictions: I have a lot of allergies and they were very accommodating Food : 5/5 |
Visiting Ottawa and booked this restaurant based on reviews and I was very happy I did. The food was very good and would highly recommend checking it out the menu is very interesting it was hard to choose! Food
Great food and the new atmosphere is fantastic! Straggly recommend!
Great to see vegan options-very pleased. Please have more vegan options, especially a vegan bread option to go with meal. Free parking but seems limited. The mushroom vegan dish was delicious and very flavorful - would come back just for that dish.
Sad that the menu was changed so much from previous time visiting not going back
The food was excellent. The flavours were intense without being overwhelming. Everything we ordered was top notch. Cant wait to come back and try the tasting menu.
Dude! Best dinner ever.
The service really stood out. The waitstaff were very polite and professional. The atmosphere was beautiful, and the food superb. Would absolutely come again!
We had the scallop appetizer at the Blue Door Gala last night-excellent-savoury flavour, but not overpowering-The scallops were the best course of the evening!
Food was delicious and the cocktails were some of the best Ive ever had.
The food and ambiance were enjoyable, and the plating was well done. However, Im giving it 3 stars primarily due to the disappointing condition of the washrooms, which was quite unpleasant.
What an amazing experience. Joe and his team do an incredible job. Food is superb. Service is top notch. Atmosphere is amazing. If I could rate 6/5 I would! Thank you Coconut Lagoon!
Excellen t decor, poor wait staff, average meal.
Delicious food and perfect service.
Best Indian restaurant in town. Amazing food and friendly staff. Vegetarian options: Vegan option noted on menu Food : 5/5 |
Outstanding experience. Food so delicious, staff attentive & warm, atmosphere trendy. Absolutely, get a reservation and go there!
Celebrated my birthday here. Terrific service. Food was superb. Mushroom curry was my favourite!
Went with friends and had the six course tasting menu. Every dish was an explosion of flavors and the service impeccable. Absolutely five stars. Cant wait to go back.
Wonderful experience! Staff are professional and attentive. Food was absolutely delicious.
Great atmosphere Great service Food can be a little more flavourful
Everything was wonderful ! The service, ambiance , presentation of the food and the taste was ABSOLUTELY DELICIOUS !!! WE had the scallops for our appetizer , then shared Masala seared red snapper, Allepey Salmon Curry with a side of basmati rice and porota bread. Will definitely be back soon Parking: It has some parking, but you can also park on the street Kid-friendliness: Kids are welcome. Saw several with their families there the night we went. They seem to enjoy the food and were treated very well. Wheelchair accessibility: Yes you can get in to the restaurant with wheelchair
This is place doesnt have a wide menu nd feels like a modified Indian restaurant Mutton biriyani was not good as it still had taste of raw mutton it wasn t properly cooked it was still hard. Appetizers are all good but quantity is not that good. Parking: Not much parking is available i paraked faraway nd walked when it was snowing
Amazing service from start to finish. From the moment we walked in, the host was professional and charismatic. The waiters were attentive and friendly. The food was excellent and the cocktails were delicious. I would recommend that anyone go here if they are looking for good food and stellar service.
