210 Sparks St., Ottawa, ON K1P 5C1, Canada
Chill, red-walled tavern dispensing casual pub grub, from quesadillas to poutine to fish ’n’ chips.
Brixton’s is a great little spot to grab a bite and a drink on Sparks Street! The patio is definitely the star of the show, with its vibrant atmosphere and a mix of interesting people passing by, all set against the charming architecture of the area. It’s a super laid-back place that's perfect for hanging out and chatting with friends. We tried the chicken tacos and crispy fries, and while the food is pretty standard, it definitely hits the spot! Their house beer is quite enjoyable too. Just a heads-up, though: the service was a bit slow, as we waited about an hour for our meal. But overall, it’s a nice place to relax and enjoy the vibe!
I've been to this place twice in the last 2 years. Same bartender both times. The place is nice, the food is decent, and there's a good beer selection. But the bartender just seems like she's lost all will to live. Just not engaged in the process at all. She strikes me as someone who got a Masters Degree in some useless topic and is now just regretting life choices. I hope she finds happiness....
Not a British pub. There’s no football. No sound. It’s a watering-hole for the political crowd. They can’t pour a beer to save their lives. If you like beer, don’t come here. Thank god I haven’t tried their food. Seats are the most uncomfortable thing I’ve ever sat on. Service is good.
Ate here on Saturday night and it was pretty quiet. Food was good despite some other reviews not being very complimentary. Good selection of beers
Brixton’s is a decent spot to stop on Sparks street for a bite and drink. The patio right on sparks is probably the highlight, with interesting people walking by and the architecture of sparks street enveloping you. The food is bog-standard pub fare, but the fries are those nice crispy ones kind of like the ones from KFC or Costco that can really elevate a meal. The house beer is cheap and pretty good, but the service is pretty inattentive and indifferent. It took a long time for us to get our orders taken with a staggered group arrival and our bills practically had to be pried out of server’s hands.
I have been here on a few occasions and have enjoyed myself each time. During my latest visit for lunch, I ordered a cream of cauliflower soup, quesadillas, and diet pop. My meal was tasty and the service was quite good, so kudos all around. With that in mind, I should note that with tax and 20% tip included, my bill came to $34. In terms of lunch options on Spark Street this is definitely among the more expensive places, so if you want something cheap this may not be the place for you. Bottom Line: This is a good location to get a pub meal, as well as watching a sporting event while drinking beer, but it ain't cheap.
I'll temper my comments based on it was Canada Day, so they were overwhelmed at best. Not the best food experience I've had. The Swiss mushroom melt burger I ordered was dry and the bun overwhelmed the meat. The triple decker club sandwich was okay. It's saving grace was the chicken was real. The beer selection was good and should please most enthusiasts. The service was stretched. We had one woman for an outdoor section of 15 to 20 people. Again, it was Canada Day.
Been seeing this sandwich all over instagram and finally got to try it out myself! Boy is it ever awesome. Great tasty patty and kale salad was perfect. The croutons were also very delicious 😋
The fries were great, nice and crispy but fish was a disaster...they need to change the oil in their fryer more often and turn down the heat as batter was crispy but some of the batter was not cooked, very brown and oily batter. Very disappointing for a British Pub
was supposed to be my family s dinner but instead we got nothing? initially waited an hour and a half for the food to arrive. delivery person arrived with 1 burger and a bag of fries from a&w. (we ordered 2 burgers a drink and salad) 20 minutes later they then said the person completed the order accidentally and was now on the way with the food. it s been another 40 minutes and no update or anything and still no food.
Great option to sit on the main street with the cheapest beers. The wrap I ordered was also delicious.
I didnt order food when I visited, but it was an ok pub
Monday and Tuesday wings specials are good, caeser salad wrap is average.
I checked my watch. 7:34. Already tearing the bar apart and behaving like we were an inconvenience. I can see the kitchen is open and no menus were offered. The only time the bartender smiled is when she got her inevitable tip.
Ordered delivery through UberEats. Ordered a total of four pounds of wings. When they arrived, there were only two boxes that weighed approximately 550g each. Did not get the complete order. The bonus was that the wings were quite good, just not the amount ordered or paid for.
Really disappointed. It was my first at Brixton s British Pub. Not kid-friendliness. One server was so rude and disrespectful.
My wife and I really enjoy Friday nights at Brixton.
My watering hole for 25+ years.
Came here for drinks during Ribfest, and was able to eat ribs in their patio with drink purchase. Service was excellent and was very accommodating to our large-ish group which was a rotating group of people. Decent beer selection, all around was a good place to sit and enjoy the nice weather.
Stopped by on a Friday around 9pm. The one server could seemingly not care less about anyone there. We had two Guinness and left so as to not trouble her further. She was very occupied telling her boyfriend about what an awful day she had.
Fish and chips were superb with the beer.
First visit review (Feb 2024): Food was good - I had a club sandwich (excellent) with fries (ok), and I was impressed with how much fresh chicken was stuffed into it. Filling! Service was not particularly engaged or interested in me or any other customers except for friends sitting at the bar. It was: Hi, where would you like to sit? Given a menu... take my order... clear empty plate and ask if I wanted anything else... take my payment. All regular stuff, but not happy I was there (kind of robotic) and I observed same approach for other guests. Atmosphere: this is supposed to be a British style pub... it kind of looks like any other pub inside. Yup... you could find a pub that looks like this in England (been there many times)... but you could also find it anywhere else too. This is Ottawa, Canada... if you want to do a British pub... you really should increase the British in the place... kind of boring and tired decor inside. Needs upgrade. Conveniently located on Sparks Street close to parliament ... I will go a second time because the food is good... and I want to give the service a second chance.
Very disappointing
I got food poisoning from the fish and chips
I really disappointed with the server from Thursday I sat at the bar for wine and fries. There servers was really rude and disrespectful because we sat at the bar
Pleasure visiting this place, everything was spot on and the bartender was very friendly. Questionable having CNN on in a bar setting but I highly recommend dropping by for a drink / bite.
Average place. For a British pub, it doesnt serve any English beer which was a big surprise and disappointment for us.
Not recommending to deal with the staff
Not worth the experience
I dont recommend experimenting
The restaurant is very bad
Beautiful little pub with a nice pub style food, nothing fancy and no fuss. Remind me allot of those little block pubs that all the locals will go to and you know everyone. A little pricey but what isnt these days.
Great food and awesome beer . We loved it
Good atmosphere, friendly service. Best wings in town
Good spot. Half price wings on Mondays as of March 2023.
Nice place. I was looking for something a little more gritty
Very good Deluxe burger and service!!!
Brixtons staff are incredibly hard-working and professional, but Ive been here twice now when the managers have under-staffed the restaurant. One server having to cover bar and table service for the whole place! They need to put more people on a shift - especially when theres an event on tv or a crowd.
Nice pub Nice patio downtown Ottawa
Its my favourite pub to go to. The beer selection and food are great. The service is always good
The interior of this pub leaves much to be desired but the patio is great. Service was, and always has been, great. The food is tasty and consistent. Brixtons wont be winning any culinary awards or wow you with their drink selection, but its a summer go-to when you want to relax outside and have a few drinks.
Fun place
We stopped here for dinner on Canada Day. It is a cozy spot with beautiful stringed up lights outside. We ordered the chicken quesadilla, poutine, club sandwich, and caesar salad. My hubby really liked the local Big Rig Red Ale. The server did an excellent job handling all guests, great service even with a big crowd! A very relaxing atmosphere, we enjoyed our time at Brixtons. Thanks for the delicious meal
Excellent, very kind!!! Good beer, nice atmosphere
Nice pub!
Great Food great service, I would go back
We enjoyed the patio and the service was competent though unremarkable (we had a late lunch; it wasnt busy). $13.50 margarita was from mix (i.e.: not good). Large spinach salad was small enough that I double-checked that they hadnt accidentally given me the side salad. Fish and chips were tasty; the one-piece portion filled a 10-year-olds tummy. Good French fries. Donair satisfied the palate of the teenager. Generally okay, but definitely overpriced for the quality.
tasty Canadian Whiskey
Food was decent, prices were good. Staff were awesome!
I am here on vacation. this is the goodest restaurant ive ever seen. So i wanna give 5 stars.
A staple of Sparks for years. You cant go wrong! Great beer selection.
Good food, drink and service - what better?
Had a few pints of beer here. All good. Good vibe too.
Amazing ambience and service!
One of the best burgers I had in Toronto or Quebec.
I quite like this pub. They have a really good bloody caeser, that is also very reasonably priced ($10). I also enjoy how many items have deep fried pickles in them. Neither of these things are British by any means, but they are quite tasty. The decor reminds me of a British pub, but thats not why I come here.
Solid pub experience. Go here if you want a long bench facing the bar and TVs, point in hand, watching a Football (soccer) game
Prices are a bit high for the very average selection of beer available to you and very mediocre food. Honestly, in the summer, it might be nice to sit on their patio have a quick brew... but otherwise, I dont really see a reason to frequent this establishment.
Considering there are very few options in this area but stay open beyond 8:00 p.m. the fact that this place exists in the first place is good. The food was OK but nothing to write home about and you could get much better for the same price and other pubs further down on Bank Street. Service wasnt the best but wasnt terrible either. Nice old school pub ambiance.
Brixton bully, slide with a bottie, man hold two from the woodie
Nice to be back at the Brixton!
Great place!
Good wings, cold beer, what more do you need bruh?
The pub is fine, a little dated atmosphere but the art is nice and its overall an average spot. Pints are on the pricier side but its also on sparks street, so thats understandable. It was dead on a Saturday evening, so this is definitely probably more of an after work or lunch spot than a late night drinks spot. We had a weird situation where we were double charged (I was charged for the bill, then when I went to the washroom my friend was also charged for the bill). It took some back and forth and coming to see the manager to get the money back. The manager was very sweet but the whole situation put me off of returning to the establishment. If youre in the area looking for a quick pint, maybe give it a go, but its not for me.
Great local pub atmosphere, amazing staff, really good food.
Super service, it could be nice if they have few more beer choice like local brewer sélection
Absolutely fantastic, Ginny should run the place
Food is ok
Food was good . Service was food but slow Only one waitress on and she was run off her feet
Had the fish and chips, very good!
Had lunch. Delicious. Fast and friendly service. Reasonably priced. Highly recommended. Grat for after work drinks and diner....
Patio service, moved inside when it rained
Its a pub with little personality and the food was uninspired.
great location but dont get food, it is not very good
Food and service were ok. Small and cozy.
We had a wonderful time! Courtney at the bar is the BEST.
Fun little pub with outdoor seating available. Great service. Food prices. Open later than most places.
The staff was very attentive and friendly! The food was very nice and tasty.
Location wise this restaurant is nice. There are lots of old buildings nearby and its fairly quiet as it is on a walking street. The patio is sizeable. The food was very underwhelming, which was surprising because I have been seeing Brixtons on Sparks Street for years and its usually busy. The Swiss Burger was pretty tasteless, I ate it without complaint because it took awhile to come to the table and I was very hungry. The fish was very small, which is definitely not what Id expect from a British pub. The beer selection is decent, I would go back for pints if I was on Sparks. However, like most restaurants and stores on this walking street its a pricey experience. The server was kind and dealt with setbacks well and professionally. She is the reason I did not leave only one star. Still, in the end I was disappointed overall in the experience and am not in a rush to return.
Lovely place to have a Drink. Fantastic staff.
Good wings, good specials on a Tuesday. Quick service
Best wings, good service. Nice staff.
SORRY ABOUT THE SALMONELLA :) Wow, has this place ever gone downhill. This used to be a decent hangout under the old regime. Now, the customer service is OVER-THE-TOP rude and obnoxious, and the food tastes like something that would come out of either end of a cat or dog. RUN--dont walk--to LITERALLY ANY OTHER PUB in the area and youll be glad you did.
Awsome ...very good food !
Good food, yummy appies. Nice people work here
Excellent and cheap lager beer. The fish and chips was good too.
Another Ottawas pub.
nice place
Great food, great service, great atmosphere. A perfect place to enjoy a relaxing evening. The Bloody Caesar is amazing, and the poutine/fried pickles/mozzarella sticks combo is to die for.
Great hamburgers, great atmosphere!!! Beer is cold........ Nuf said!!
Had the fish and chips which were amazing! It is a very small pub so prepared to get cozy but definitely gives off the vibes of an authentic British pub!
I had it through delivery but the food was amazing quality. Would order again.
Great, I liked this place very much, I recommend it
One of my favourite places. Small, British feel, good food, friendly staff, decent tap. 10/10
good variety of food and beers. Friendly staff
Very good choice of beers and one of the best Fish and chips in town!
It is an okay British style pub. It has typical pub fair that is okay but not great. Really did not like the fries. I also found the draft beer a bit warm and flat.
I Like the half price wings on Monday and Tuesday
Nice quiet hole in the wall with great drinks and food.
Cute pub, beautiful art on the wall, great menu. The service was not the fastest but very friendly. Not too busy in the afternoon.
Amazing food and staff!
I got the buffalo chicken wrap which was good. The wings need to be seasoned but theyre great sized wings, onion rings are like store bought. My wife liked the taste of the Quesadilla but not the size. But I really need to go there and see the service Ive heard its amazing
Good food. Very friendly.
The food was so good. Loved how long my drink stayed cold. Staff wiped down every chair at the table even when only 2 were occupied. Very important to see during covid times.
Sign at entrance said $6 draught. I ordered a beer and was charged full price. I asked the server and they explained that it was only for Moosehead. I was not impressed.
Great staff great food
10/10 service and the food was delicious, had their fish and chips made in house and was blown away. Would come again. Didnt know the name of our server but she was a cook there once and shout outs to her, thank you for the evening.
I m usually not a big fan of pubs but this one was definitely different than the others . I had the fish and chips and it was AMAZING . I also learned that they make it everyday fresh so they even have a limited amount of so they don t waste food . I loved that . The portion was huge and everyone was very friendly. I had one of the cocktails that I do not remember the name but it was pretty decent. Super chill place to hang and talk with friends. I also heard that their wings are delicious!!! I definitely have to go back to try them .
Good place to relax with friends.
Got my order wrong and didnt seem overly attentive. Not a fan, wont be coming back.
Amazing service and decent food. A really nice atmosphere to sit and have a drink
Not a salad guy but had one here (Julies Salad) and it was fantastic! Service was great as well.
Not terrible but wouldnt recommend anyone to ever try
Always great
Great for lunch on patio..careful of the bees
Nice British style pub named after the nice neighborhood in South London.
Good service, good fish and chips.
Average patio
The only place open after 9pm in that area, very English, excellent beer and very friendly staff. The only flaw was the hamburger served cold
Terrible wings, like the worst iv ever had. Il never spend another dime on this place .
Great local hang out! Fantastic deal on wings! And great wings! Huge!! Tina at the bar great!
Food items are classic, but the bears are awesome. Employees are especially friendly, loves the experience!
I have been planning to try this british pub for a while and today I made it happen, as I grew up in London,England I do sometimes miss some of the british food. We went there for lunch with my friend, they were about 14-16 people inside. We were greeted with Courtney,( our server) atmosphere and ambiance was ok, our table was a bit wobbly, but the server fixed it for us. We ordered orange juice for myself and Pepsi for my friend, Courtly came back to get our Oder, it didn t take long before we had the food. I had Brixton burger. My friend had toasted cheese, I find my burger a bit blunt, I can tell that it wasn t house made, and Bun was a bit stale. the burger came plain, fries and a burger in a plate, No salad garnish to make the plate more appealing. No Pickle. no relish ,or mayo so I have to asked our server to have some condiments. Which is fine! When our server came back to us, I ask her to confirm weather the burger is made in the house or not, and she it was bought in. Small business like this, I expect the burger to be made in the house. And expect more british cuisine in the menu.( as it says in their logo) I can not comment the beer top as I don t drink alcohol, but he bar looks well stocked. I do support family run local business. This is only my personal observation. And I still give them the 5* rating.
typical Spark Street Bar with limited options but a good place to grab a simple pint
Great service Great food and drink selection
Delicious food! You absolutely get your money a worth in both taste and portions. Excellent service as well as a lovely atmosphere. Highly recommend! :)
Ok food. Service was awkward.
Nice patio, good selection of quick lunch eats.
Good service
Great burgers!
Great people and great service, staff are very friendly. I highly recommend this place
Great waitress good service good food chicken wings were excellent
Just ate lunch here and food and service was terrible. The chicken wings were very dry and tasted expired. I ate one and still had to pay for them. And my friend had a chicken wrap with 2 small strips of chicken in it. Very dissapointed
Great costumer service. I went here for their wings night. You have to buy a beverage to get the special. I dont drink, so I got a pop. They are refillable. The Covid precautions are good. Would come back again.
Love this place. Never had a bad experience here. Just tried the new Brixton lager... might be the lowest cost beer on sparks.... but just as good as all the big boys beer. Ive had pints on every patio on Sparks. The Brixton Lager might be the best value Ive come across for a pint. Heated patio is well done... Im here on day that is 5 degrees in a t-shirt.
Love this spot for a cold beer. Great customer service, months later I was impressed Julie knew my order.
Brixton. A very nice pub, great atmosphere & even greater menu. Ive had great fish & chips before, here, has to be one of my best places for it. Service was excellent. Many choices for drinks also, Id recommend a cider, went very well with my meal. I will be back to support this restaurant !
Great little pub on Sparks with fantastic serving staff.
Very chill pub, amazing beer selection - food was delicious! Awesome staff too, super nice and attentive. Will definitely be back!
Canada day and busy however our food, drinks and service by Courtney was fantastic. Will be going back. Donair egg rolls.
Had the mushroom and Swiss burger was tasty... need more flavorful gravy tho but all n all good experience on Canada Day 2019
Good atmosphere, friendly staff. Ive never tried the food so I cant in good conscience give it 5 stars
Good food
Fun local hangout. Patio open in summer months. Pub food. Great drinks and stellar service!
Food food!
a cozy place to eat... I definitely recommended the renegade burger
Food was decent, waitress was very friendly, we moved outside the table beside us was dropping f-bombs
Good beers
Good staff, good libations, what more could you ask for from a pub?
We were there Saturday 23 Sep and there was only one waitress on for the inside and outside! The poor girl was running ragged but kudos to her she did excellent! The drinks were great, the music was nice and we sat there for a few hours having drinks. We had the chips and salsa which were very tasty but my chicken quisdella tasted like it was cooked on a wood stove. I am sure other people would like that but I didnt. I am still giving it a 5 star because it wasnt that it wasnt good it just wasn;t my cup of tea.
Theres beer here, and lots of TVs. Its a decent spot to relax, but nothing exceptional.
Very good attempt at British style pub. Serves boddingtons!
Long. Narrow. About as British as a Russian
Nice quiet pub - great for a relaxing beer.
Deep fried pickles.
I was very disappointed in the service we received here. A large group (approx. 10+) of us went in to celebrate the departure of a colleague. One individual in our party chose to drink water rather than an alcoholic beverage (as is his choice). However, when this individual went to order a plate of nachos, the server, who was quite rude, stated that he was not able to because he did not purchase a drink but she would make an exception given she assumed he was sharing with those of us who had purchased a drink. I was shocked by this. Why shouldnt he be allowed to order food, just because he did not purchase a beverage? If this is an actual policy, then I am shocked. You would think any establishment that is in the pub business would want to provide service to their customers regardless of whether that be in the form of a beverage or a food item. Will never return nor will any of my colleagues. Oh and the nachos were disgusting. Would give 0 stars if possible.
