Value - zero stars. I ordered a bowl of soup - the bowl was over a foot wide. $8 for a bowl of soup but it was barely 1/2 deep. Complete rip off. Ill not return.

Spent a memorable night with colleagues at Sir John A Pub during my stay in Ottawa, enjoying good beers so kindly served by Sofia! A pub that I definitely recommend and where I will come back for sure.

I was very disappointed in the quality of the food here. Burgers were 20$ or more, and they were frozen patties. Tasted like Harveys.. poutine was ok. My husband ordered sweet potato fries, but they gave him onion rings that were burnt... i wouldnt recommend the burgers... seems like a great place for beer thou, they had a huge beer selection.

Unfortunately, our waiter was extremely rude, creating an unfriendly atmosphere. It felt like they were doing us a favor by giving us a table, likely because it was a Saturday night. I was so upset by the waiters unprofessional behavior that I left without even trying the food, so my rating is only for the environment and service.

I go to Sir John A often, as they have the best beer selection in the city (one of the few places to serve Delirium Tremens in Ottawa), the staff is always super friendly and their fish and chips are to die for. Definitely a go-to spot for me and I definitely recommend it for anyone looking to grab a bite to eat and a nice cold beer.

The perfect spot for after work beers an snacks. The staff always brightens my day and has what feels like an unlimited selection of beers to pair with the food. Love bringing new people here. The fish and chips are also to die for!

Huge selection of beers, local and international. The place was very busy and the two waitresses still had everything under control. We didnt eat anything, so no review. Prices ok, atmosphere typical of a pub, pleasant crowd.

The worst nachos Ive ever had. An embarrasment, really, for such an easy dish to make. Such a waste of my money.

Bartenders took waaaaayyyyyyyy too long. Seriously too long. Like they were just ignoring most of the time. Kills the vibe specially when youre drinking.

Great service but the food was mediocre at best and our indoor table was swarmed with fruit flies which were a huge pain in the arse while we were eating. Not just a few... like a dozen relentless fruit flies. Good selection of beers tho!

My favorite pub in Ottawa good vibe, tasty food( definitely get the sweet potato fries and chicken wings) but by far the best part is the service. Every time i go, Karen always goes above and beyond and is a big reason to keep coming back! Thanks Karen!

Went here to watch Canada/Argentina game. Great atmosphere on the patio with quick efficient service. However, the nachos I ordered were hands down one of the worst food experiences of my life. The pulled pork had the look and consistency of cat food and every other ingredient on the plate looked as if it was pumped from a caulking gun. I understand the need for speed and the reliance of food service companies, but cutting corners to that extreme is shameful. Wasted money. It was so bad I feel compelled to say something.

One of my terrible experience at the pub in Ottawa was at the Sir John A Pub. The food was disgusting. It was served super cold with almost no taste. The fillet strip with French fried was terrible. The staffs were not nice at all. Never ever go back to Pub.

I went in this place and was offended in a totally unfair way by a bouncer out and also inside the bar, being morally harassed for this same guy after i dropped a cup of wine of a client that already out of the bar and they didn t put away. No one take any attitude about that. I will never more go there and never recommend this place for anyone. Ps: i don t have any complaint of the waitress, the girls are always nice and respectful.

They have my favourite beer (Dominion City Town and Country). Mostly an unremarkable place, and a bit pricy.

About what you d expect being named after someone like John A McDonald. Maybe this place is good during the day but I had a pretty bad experience at night. While the drink selection is great here and the food I had was really yummy, I was completely ignored by the entire staff. Most of the time they were around the bar gossiping. Took me about 15 minutes to get asked if I wanted a drink and another 50 minutes to be asked if I wanted any food. I felt completely ignored and uncared for. It s really unfortunate because this seems like a really good place to just relax and hang out, but the staff seem completely disconnected from the people they are supposed to take care of.

Living close by, I am a frequent customer of John A. Its the best patio in town. The food is quite good and you get large portions of it.

Always good food and great and prompt service. They always win because they never turn customers around for the kitchen being closed. Theu have plenty of draft choices which rotates and always adds a new one.

Though the place was crowded, the food was excellent, and the service too. We wait for a short amount of time to get our dishes to be served.

The pub offers a great variety of beers and drinks to choose from, ensuring theres something for everyone. The staff are incredibly friendly and contribute to the welcoming vibe of the place. As for the food, its simply delicious. Sir John Pub delivers on all fronts great drinks, tasty food, and a fantastic atmosphere. Highly recommended for a good time out with friends!

Great little pub. Food was really good and they have their own beer which was one of the best pale ales I have ever had. They have a pretty wide selection of other beers as well plus a good whiskey menu.

The pub has a decent selection of beers and ciders, as well as a really good scotch and whiskey selections. What else can you ask for from an English style pub. The location is good and centrally located in the parliament area. All in all a good experience.

Went where without a reservation on a Friday night. Couple of spots left. Good pub vibe. Choice of beer and food was great. Steak was very good even more so if you compare to other pubs. We had two waitresses coming at our table for service. Very proactive. Definitely going there again!

I suggest going to literally any other bar & pubs on Elgin St. My friend and I ordered our drinks by a blonde server and then we got kicked out for no apparent reason by the brunette supervisor one hour before last call after we already ordered our overpriced bar rail and beer five minutes prior. We asked her why she is kicking us out and why she is not serving our drink, but she kept being extremely rude without giving us a reason even though she was still serving the other tables. I am still baffled about this experience. As someone who also works in the service industry, I am shocked by how we got treated by the supervisor. Also, as she was kicking us out, she grabbed my friend to leave which is completely unacceptable. You never lay your hands on a guest. Overall, I am obviously never coming back to that bar. The drinks are way too overpriced, the server was so rude beyond comprehension, and they are much better looking bars with a friendlier atmosphere. For the manager or GM, this occurred Saturday, March 25th.

Excellent location to visit! Peter and Brandon the owners provide a first class experience. Food is great. All the staff from Karen plus the others are exceptional. Highly recommended!

Server forgot about us. Food never came. Filled way too many tables for how few staff there were .

I came in for a few pints. The first one was a wheat beer that tasted like vinegar. The server took it away and offer me another brand of wheat beer. This one was flat but at least drinkable. My third beer was okay. It seems they have far too many taps and dont sell enough beer. Old and stale beer is passed off instead of discarded.

Really good pub where you can be served in French and English, a big advantage which allows you to have your extra star. The food is good and the plates are plentiful. Huge choice of beers, and there was Belgian delirium! Great time.

It wast first time going, my boyfriend and I had the beef dip. It was very yummy. We are definitely going to go back again and try other menu items. It was a bit loud but thats to be expected inna pub. I just dont do well in loud environments.

Things you can find here: beer, patio, pub food, musty smells, flies in the bathroom, glasses youre pretty sure werent washed as well as they should have been.

Food is very overpriced for the quantity you get & the service was lacking -- our server only came by twice at the very beginning and forgot us for the rest of the night until other servers noticed. Atmosphere and location are nice though.

2023 My previous review was from 5 years ago and boy has this place changed. 1 server for the restaurant (and she was bartending too) on a Friday evening. Obviously the service was slow. The server was also not at all personable. She never asked if we needed anything or how the meal was. We had to eventually wave her over just to get the bill. The quality of the food has gone way downhill. The table and menus were dirty and greasy. We will no longer visit or recommend this place again. Thursday evening dinner. Delicious food! Kids had poutine, and burger. Hubby had fish n chips. Would have given 5 star if poutine was hot and if burger was not black. Service was outstanding! Hard to find service like this these days!

Absolute horrible experience here from rude, discriminatory staff. Went to the counter to get a beer, had a look at the menu, no-one came when I was at the counter. Served other people. When waiting on server, the man decided that on a quiet Tuesday evening I couldn t order. Apparently the server who didn t come was overwhelmed by the demands of the day (despite the pub being half empty). I was polite and just checking out the menu, never displayed any irritation or impatience. Will never set foot in here again. They re passive aggressive and rude to people with a different accent or who aren t from the area. Avoid going here at all costs!

Good vibe here. Best part was that the kitchen was open late compared to other spots in the neighborhood. We had a mix of apps and food. Everyone was satisfied overall. Large selection of beer and drinks.

2 out of 3 meals I paid for were absolutely trash. I will go with friends again for a drink maybe , but I would never order the food again . Zero flavour, with a microwave texture, not worth the money!

Only disappointment was the discontinued Innis & Gunn on tap beer. Oh well. Friendly staff and great location.

They have a shaded patio, so its good to be there if you wanna drink outside but super sunny day. Lots of beer selection and foods are decent. My go to is pub platter. I am obsessed with zucchini fries! Casual vibe pub on Elgin. I dont think reservation is necessary unless its some special day.

Was in the area and wanted to check this place out. Tried their home brew pale ale which was really light and refreshing for 5.2%. Just ordered a basket of zucchini sticks, as it was a bit early for dinner. It was there service I was most impressed with. My server was friendly and attentive. This was a good first experience.

The location was not bad. We were with family on the terrace but the food is not excellent and they made a mistake with the pizza. In fact, one of us couldnt get one at 8 p.m. There were already more.

Great Pub, and a good location. The food is mediocre at best. We ordered the Cesar Salad but did not have ANY dressing. Another thing was no coasters, so the bottom of the beer glass got super wet and water drips on you when drinking.

My husband loves their pizza, he said it is really good, I am celiac, so I cannot try it however, good news they have GF options, like the curry. Which is really good!

Went with a group of coworkers after work around 11pm and was greeted warmly and efficiently. Our personal waitress was nice and accommodated all of our requests. We had ordered several tequila shots and were a group of 5, we had specifications as to how the bill would be split and she was absolutely perfect, very impressed considering we were difficult and confusing at some points unfortunately. There was another waitress bussing our tables however who was very unpleasant. She avoided eye contact or verbal conversation of any kind and would slam things on our table or nearby tables besides us. The rest of the staff at the location was very pleasant so I wouldnt want to say anything negative because of just one singular employees behaviour. Great venue and our personal service was lovely, dim and warm atmosphere, didnt get to try the beer but they had an abundance of great selections and variety!

The place was empty at 1pm today. Despite that, the kitchen was putting out pretty tasty pub fare. Had the fish and chips and the Pub Platter (sampler). Had a Pilsner, which I love, and a Sir JA Pale Ale which dad liked too. Sat on the threshold of the patio and was bothered by flies and wasps, but otherwise a lovely afternoon to sit for a bite at the pub. Nothing is cheap anymore, so the bill of $80 was typically higher than I expected but thats the way everywhere.

After work beer and dinner. Fast friendly servers. We sat on the patio, they have high top tables, my favorite seating. My beer was cold, beef dip and fries tasty and hot, consume dip. Owner in the restaurant, always available to help.

Great place to go with friends! A group of 6 of us went for dinner and drinks. The staff were very accommodating and super friendly. The sangria was a big hit with our group and overall everyone enjoyed their food!!

If you see someone at the bar without a drink, I m sorry, but they shouldn t have to ask YOU to ask THEM can I get you something? What the hell am I here for? In USA, pretty girls at the bar act like they ve been there.

The nachos are amazing, and the entire staff is gorgeous and friendly.

We were here for dinner, we ordered nachos and veg pizza, nachos were amazing and veg pizza was avg, they have large outdoor patio and its busy on weekends.

I walked in this place soon after they opened, I wasn t sure what I wanted to get so it took me some time trying to figure out what I want, then what seemed to be the owner or manager approached me and in a very pushy way he told me what drink did I want, I told him I just need some time to figure out what I want and he kept being pushy with me telling me the bartender has to go do some opening work with him so I told him she can go with you and take as long as she wants when she s back I will have decided what I want by then, he then told me we re closed please get out, with people in the bar still eating, I was surprised because me needing more time to decide should be 100% acceptable, I then went to the bar across the street, they were very nice and I told the person about what happened and he was shocked that someone in the hospitality industry would do something like this. This took place about 7 months ago, it just shows you how bad the service was, and how annoyed I was at getting kicked out for something like needing more time to decide what drink I want and by a manager/owner

Overall good experience, service was great and food was good. I will go back for sure. Great beer selection and not bad whisky selection too.
