Excellent meal! Perfect staff and service. Homemade cuisine and fresh meat. Low price but the quality is largely there, and the portions are rather generous. Thank you for this good time, we will come back as a family with pleasure to taste the rest of the menu!

This place has gone from the best place to the most inconsistent place ever. I specifically ask them for NON soggy plantains and they gave the the soggiest ones they can find. The quality of the food is not what it once was and the customer service is not good anymore. Before I used to order knowing it would be delicious now I cross my fingers hoping and praying for the best .. I think I m done with the place and will no longer recommend this place to my friends.. Hopefully the owner retrains his staff or takes back control because the sudden decline in quality and service is awful!

I am so glad we decided to try this place yesterday. Honestly the best food I ve ever eaten in my life. I doubt we ll ever eat shawarma again. I ve seen some reviews mention having to wait, we did have to wait but it is not McDonald s. We went around 12:30 and had to wait 15 mins for our food, which I would happily wait to have fresh hot food. People spend longer than that sitting in a drive thru. Portions were suuuuper generous, enough rice for 3 meals for me easily. The chicken is where the real magic is at. My whole life I ve hated eating meat on bones (I m a chicken breast girl) this was the first time I ve ever eaten chicken where I was left with clean bones afterwards. It had me licking my fingers afterwards, step aside kfc. The man working recommended to my husband to get mild since it can be spicy, I d say that s the perfect place to start. The mild is still fulllll of flavour. I can t say enough good things about this place. Go, try it.

Lunch combo was EXTREMELY flavourful, with the chicken juice marinsting the fries with spice. Derek is a great man and a great cook. Chicken was a little too dry for my taste but it was fairly priced at 9.98! Ive come about 3 times and Ive never been dissapointed

This place sucks!!! The owner claims authentic African food but it s more like rubber or something from the bottom of your shoe. The owner made me uncomfortable by constantly boasting about his money and possessions and making inappropriate comments towards me and my friend. We also witnessed him yelling at his employees pretty profusely. Don t go here, it s not worth the price, quality, or the experience.

I came in 2 workes were eating and no one at the cash. I waited 5 min for someone to help me. I finally got my food 15 min later... and once i got home which is 10 min drive, the food was old and cold. Rice was from this morning and the chicken was old and over cooked. Never going back again!

I ordered a chicken and beef skewer. OMG, they were disgusting. The beef was like rubber and full of fat, it was gross. The chicken tasted awful, you could literally taste the paprika and other than that it tasted bad, yuck. I didn t think it was possible to screw up a simple skewer but I guess anything is possible. The food was hardly edible, I lost my appetite and threw out half the meat. Cross Africa House off my list of restaurants, this sucked!

The food is very tasty.but, I called on several occasions to order food when I arrive to the restaurant they never know my order and have to repeat it so they start preparing it at that moment. Its frustrating because the idea to order in advance is to save time. Im pretty sure that the person who answers the phone is never there and never pass the message

I wish I knew if the food was good, instead I came in ordered and waited an hour. After which the owner came and asked what we ordered. Then said it would be another 45 minutes at least. People had been there for 2 hours before us apparently. The issue is they prioritize Uber eats, and even that takes an hour. Don t do it. Your better off with anything else

I ordered the Jollof rice and fried plantains from Uber eat. The plantains came extremely burnt and not edible.

This is the first restaurant that I have given such a bad review on. The customer service was horrible, I paid for my meal and the transaction went through, and right on the receipt it said approved, the Guy at the counter who took my order said that it did not go through, I even showed him my bank account statement to prove to him that the transaction went through. Anyways the food was horrible, it was so bland. The plantains were burnt and just so dry, the rice was not even joloof rice, I dont know what it was; the only good thing about the food was the meat, eventhough it was burnt as well, but it didnt taste as bad as the others. Will I go back there and spend another $28.00 of course not.

Wow what an amazing expérience ! It was our first time there with the family , everyone loved their food , the service was excellent, I only have good things to say about this place, we will come back to try more items for sure , we strongly recommend the chicken, we like it mild and it was so flavourfull, like nothing we ever had before. Good morning, I liked the welcome however I was disappointed with my dish the rice was therefore half cooked I couldnt eat it and there was too much dressing on my salad. On the other hand, the chicken and plantains were good.

Wonderful event for larger birthday party of 16 year olds. Very tasty salads, chicken, beef and plantain and fries, super tasty rice! A very nice difference from shawarma which we also love. But this was a first for us; our daughter was very excited since she d had it a number of times with friends. Thank you!!

Good food! Got the Jallof rice with a quarter chicken and salad. Good fried plantain as well. Good spice on the chicken and rice. The salad goes well to cancel out the spice from everything else.

We ordered two plates of chicken breast with plantain and we received two plates of chicken thigh and one had fries instead of plantain. I informed the cook who came to carry our plates and he just said ok without apologizing or offering to change the dishes. The food was good but I wish I got what I ordered and paid for.

I have been to the African BBQ House for the last 4 days straight. The food was just woo hoo, so good. The spice, the salad dressing, the rice; I have been to many BBQ restaurant in my time, but the African BBQ House on Dalhousie St. has the best tasting skews and the best customer service. Love the food and love the team working there. Honestly, give it a chance, and it will grow on you. XD

We went for lunch today and were blown away by the flavours, service and portions! This is a must try for anyone who enjoys jollof rice, crispy chicken skin and ginger juice. Even the salad was the best I have had!

Amazing service from the owner s brother who was at the counter. Friend and I were splitting a plate so he plated the food separately for us and gave us free beverages as well. Came to about 25 dollars including tax and tip, so really affordable (~$12/person). A little hard to cut into the chicken with the wooden disposable cutlery but overall delicious, affordable food and friendly staff make sure to get the plantains! (Half chicken with jollof rice, salad, and plantains)

Service is slow. I called and was told 25 min. And it the order was not ready. It turn out to be a 50 minutes wait. Frustrating, especially when you have kids in wait. Thank god the food is delicious tho, but they need to respect the wait time they give.

We really like this place, and would like to keep ordering. But the inconsistency has been noticed and is disappointing. Multiple times now, when ordering the exact same thing, quarter or half chicken combo either the salad was different than before or the rice or the plantain. Would love to have more consistency. People order because of what the food is supposed to be, we dont want surprises. Food business should be taken as seriously as any other business.

Drove by this restaurant in Ottawa, checked reviews, and decided we must try. Ordered over the phone, a very friendly person took the order. The food was ready for a pickup real fast. It has been a very unique experience. Quater chicken combo is good!. but Id like to comment on one thing we have noticed as people who used to cook our BBG on charcoal. You spike your charcoal with fuel, which makes the butain linger in the aftertaste. Nevertheless, thank you very much for the meal, it was very good.

This place is amazing! Kind service and incredible food. I had the fish skewer plate with vegetable rice and plantain, and my husband had the half chicken with jollof rice and plantain. Everything was just perfect. The fish and meat were cooked impeccably and were so juicy and flavourful, with just the right amount of spice. The jollof rice and vegetable rice were some of the best rice Ive ever had. The plantain was rich and sweet. We will definitely be coming back!!

Derrick was the one and it employee there but he was efficient, courteous, professional, service with a smile. The food was delicious. The portions were great, enough to share. My friends and I ordered different plates. I ordered the 1/2 chicken, one of my friends ordered the shrimp skewers and my other friend ordered the lamb medium well done . Our plate came with salad , plantains, jollof rice and the meats were cooked to perfection. We were visiting for the weekend and just found it after a basketball tournament. We would definitely go back when visiting Ottawa again.

Very poor service and the price is much more expensive than it is worth.. the meat skewers (beef) 3 skewers for $20 Without a menu. the meat was very tough and the taste was not good..the half chicken was was not bad, the rice was not fresh.. so for me and my family not to make again..

Finally, after a year of living down the road from African BBQ House I finally gave them a try. So good I had the Lamb Skewers Plate; 2 Skewers of Lamb served with Jollof rice, chef salad, and plantains. Was impressed with all the flavours and the portion was perfect. I suggest giving them a try if you haven t.

The place is amazing. The food is so delicious, when you enter the place the smell and the mix of the spices is mouth-watering. The service is very fast. The prices are very reasonable.

Weve lived 2 minutes away for 2 years, and we finally stopped in last night for dinner! We had lamb and half chicken! Everything was wonderfully cooked and the rice was so good and flavourful! Happy to have this place so close to home!

Tried the whole chicken family dinner no 1. Very tasty! The potato salad, rice and salad were very good, plantains were ok but the chicken was super, moist and flavourful. We could forgo the fries. We didn t mind the wait but I would recommend allowing 45 mins from order to pickup since there was only one person cooking and at cash. Very impressed and we will be back.

So far the best tasting BBQ chicken I experienced in Ottawa. Portions of rice for family deal were little too small compared to other places offer similar family deals. Something they should look into.

This is really just a place for picking up. Tried it for the first time today. We went to pick up at the designated time after ordering it online. We had to wait another 20 minutes. Food is good and we will definitely be back. But I highly recommend ordering ahead. We got the family meal and there was a lot of food.

Moosa is the best and all the employees also. I have never had chicken like this before and now every week i end up being here shrimp is the second best thing if you are a shrimp fan.

This place is a must-visit for chicken BBQ lovers. The African BBQ spice used for seasoning is absolutely perfect. I do not know who gave you 4 stars but this is terrible. The food is revolting. I ordered a large fish. They sent me something soggy as though it has been boiled. It looks boiled. Vey messy. This is not even a large fish. Nothing on the side, not even salad. All for $38? Even for $7 I wouldnt order from this place ever again. Absolutely horrendous. See photos and judge for yourself.

Absolutely delicious and mouth watering. I ordered BBQ Chicken with Rice, Plantain, Cabbage and Salad on the side. The rice was one of the best I had. You can literally have it on its own and it is still tasty. The chicken was smoky and cooked all the way through.. yummy. Apart from that, the owner, Musaddek is extremely generous, friendly and down to earth. He is also a great conversationalist.

I just had a very bad experience over there, some staff are very rude and disrespectful.

First time trying this place. Had the lunch special - for $10 you get a leg and lots of fried plantains (we substituted fries for plantains). I thought the chicken was excellent and so were the fried plantains. I couldn t finish all the plantains! I would go again.

We got the jollof rice and bbq chicken as well as the goat skewer combo. The key thing you need to know is that its charcoal based, so the flavour defeats everything non charcoal. 10 stars out of 5 for flavour. Spices, tender meat, smoky goodness that transports you to another continent...my goodness it was amazing. The owners seem really nice and take pride in their food. The jollof rice rivals that of my Nigerian in laws...theirs may be better, but home cooked jollof rice is special. This is on par. Finally, the price is great, so theres a ton of value for quality, which is a very important criteria. This hits the mark for me on all facets, well done African BBQ House!

My mother, my daughter and I ordered food here...it was my daughters choice because it was her birthday. The service was outstanding, and the food was absolutely delicious! We had never had this kind of food before...but well be ordering it again! The staff was so friendly, too! (Apparently, my mother seems to have developed a love of fried plantains!)

Im the foreman at a site nearby, and I decided to give this place a try a few weeks back. The BBQ chicken this place serves, is the truth. The flavour is immaculate. The spices are in perfect balance with the universe. Eating it was like the first time I heard Led Zeppelin. I wanted to save some for lunch tomorrow, but Im really struggling right now, I dont think Im strong enough to resist eating it all tonight.

I do not know how acurate to culture the food is, as i am a white dude from ottawa. But damn this is amazing and i will be back.

UPDATE: I tried the beef skewer platter with medium spicy. The perfect heat for someone who can handle a little heat. The flavour, as usual, was to die for. My only regret is not getting more. Wow the food here was amazing. You can t get bbq better than this. I highly recommend anyone to try out the food here especially if you ve never had bbq over a wood fire. We got the kebabs some spicy some not. Both were delicious. The plaintains were great, the fries were great, the jollof rice were a great touch to pair with steak.

not gonna lie I had high hopes for this place coming in, as this was my first time here. I came in at around 10:45 PM after making an order for pickup 20 minutes prior. I asked them to prepare two extra spicy whole bbq chickens for my buddy and I. I came in and the atmosphere was really nice, inside of the place was made to impress. The food however was, and I mean no hyperbole when I say this, AWFUL. Not only was the chicken not spicy, but it was drier than the Sahara desert. Now you might say hey bro, that doesn t warrant a one star but what you didn t know was towards the end of our meal, my friend found not one but TWO stray HAIRS in his chicken! I understand that it s towards the end of the night and mans are tryna go home, but God damn HAIRS IN THE FOOD. Could this be an off night for them, sure, but i m sorry bro I draw the line at that man. It s a shame too cuz I know that the owners of this place must care for this sort of thing cuz as I said earlier, the inside of the place is literally flawless, but whoever was cooking that night could not care less about this restaurant and it s reputation.

Had the lunch special which is $10 for a quarter chicken and fries. They give a lot of fries!!! We had both medium and African spice levels and I would recommend African. Its more flavorful than hot. We dined in but this place is more geared for take away. We really enjoyed it and will return for the meals.

Came here for lunch and got the quarter chicken with plantains, jollof rice, and salad. All the food was excellent. The jollof rice was fantastic, the plantains were easily some of the best Ive had. The salad, which is usually an afterthought, had a good mix of greens and a tasty dressing. The quarter chicken was quite good as well. All around a great meal. Service was great, the owner and stuff were super friendly and helpful. It seemed a little chaotic due to what seemed like some renovations and setup still going on, but they were very apologetic and wanted to ensure we had a great meal regardless. The owner also mentioned opening a location on Dalhousie and another on Carling soon, so Ill definitely be checking those out, too.

Great grand opening Nov. 28 at the Dalhousie location in the Market! Flavourful, juicy chicken. A nutrient-dense salad with kale and mixed greens. Perhaps the best sweet potato fries Ive had. Jollof was tasty and comforting. Great portions at an affordable price. Staff were very welcoming, accommodating, and friendly. Ill have to come back to try the ginger drink.

I went to their new location in downtown, on Dalhousie street, but couldnt find the page on google so I will leave my review here. Very good food, great atmosphere, and super friendly staff. I walked in on opening day and was kindly greeted by every staff member. All I ordered was a half chicken, but they ended up giving me complimentary rice and even a bottle of water. Great food and great people.

Plantains are ripe and tender. The slaw/ salad is healthy but has mayo which I didnt expect for african BBQ.

When I first came here, I was greeted so warmly by Nathan. Ever since, we build a great relation and interaction and for the first time today, I tried his rice - it was literally out of the world! For the first time, I tasted such wonderful rice better than my Syrian friends 4.8 star kebab authentic restaurant in Toronto. How he does it is just purely out of love, ingenious and lots of dedication. His chicken is even too good and so are the fries. Everything is perfectly done and served. Will definitely come back here more often.
