Bad experience

I booked Alora for our companys annual Christmas dinner for a group of 25, and the entire experience was seamless from start to finish. I worked closely with Lindsey, their event coordinator, who was an absolute pleasure to collaborate with professional, approachable, and incredibly attentive. She helped us craft a menu that pleased every palate, and the feedback from our group was overwhelmingly positive. The food was not only delicious but also served perfectly in sequence, allowing us to fully enjoy each dish. Drinks flowed generously, and the service was prompt, with staff always on hand for refills. Catering to such a large group can be tricky, but Alora truly surpassed our expectations. Everyone left satisfied and happy. I highly recommend Alora for any event or even just a memorable night out!

Alora is a stylish, trendy spot with great service, making it an ideal choice for a lively late-night dinner with friends. However, there are a few areas where it falls short of its price point. While some dishes were delicious like the perfectly cooked lamb, flavorful chicken bites with Korean sauce, and some of the best parmesan fries I ve had in the city others didn t quite meet expectations. For example, the crab bites were topped with pre-mixed, store-bought guacamole instead of fresh avocados, which was disappointing given the premium pricing. The ambiance is chic and buzzing, but it does get loud. While this adds to the lively atmosphere, it s not the best setting for an intimate date, as you might find yourself yelling over the noise. Additionally, a couple of small details missed the mark, like my martini being served in a coupe glass instead of the traditional chilled martini glass. It s a classic drink that shouldn t be altered, and the strong vermouth-forward taste felt unbalanced. When the server commented that it was small but potent, it came across as catering to the wrong priorities I d prefer a more thoughtfully balanced cocktail over sheer strength. Despite these critiques, the attentive staff, vibrant atmosphere, and standout dishes like the lamb and parmesan fries make Alora worth visiting, especially with a group of friends looking for a trendy dining experience. With fresher ingredients and a few tweaks, it could easily elevate to a five-star spot.

The Indian hostess was unwelcoming and made no effort to seat us, despite the presence of empty seats. We were having dinner and were not offered a table. Fortunately, a male waiter intervened and provided exceptional service, kindly making adjustments to ensure our comfort during dinner. You deserve accolades, and I eagerly anticipate my next visit to see you again.

Was there for an organizational event and the cocktails appetizers, drinks, and atmosphere was nice.

Food was tasty, amazing ambiance. The service was also good. Everything was ok until the bill came. We had ordered a sharing board which was shared among 4 people but only 2 of us were charged . Had to pay 230 in total for my drinks and food that is way too expensive for a single person. When we requested that board was shared with 4 people they told us the bill is already punched in we cannot do anything now. I understand this mistakes can happen but they should have corrected the bill. I am not one of the customers who will fight and create a scene so i paid the bill. This ruined my whole experience here.

amazing service. (and no not every fine dining offers good service). the lamb chops and the salmon were exceptionally good. the only negative thing is: three of my friends ordered the steak, oversized portions but they got the doneness all mixed up.

Top tier restaurant from their main floor all the way up to the roof top patio- this place keeps us coming back for more! The atmosphere, food & drinks are all unparalleled as far as Ottawa is concerned. Would highly recommend the crispy crab bites, land & sea sharing board, and any of their craft cocktails (seriously, the bar team did amazing here). Highly recommend!!

Went to Alora this past weekend and OMG it was amazing! Hands down, some of the best food I ve had recently! They use the freshest ingredients and make sure each dish is done the right way. The pasta was especially good. A must try!

Great food, drinks, service and vibes!!!

I really wanted to love this place because I ve heard such great things but I won t be returning. We were sat at our table ordered a drink right away. Waitress came back with water then we put in our food order we ordered: crab crispy rice bites, hot and honey chicken tenders, parm fries and lobster linguini to share. 45 MINUTES passed still no drinks just water then our apps came out we asked the food runner where our server was with our drinks 20 minutes later our server came to drop off lobster pastas to share and clear our app plates mind you we still have not received our drinks finally after finishing all our food our drinks came and they were made HORRIBLY we had to send both of them back! I ve never had a dirty martini that tasted like that in my life the spicy margarita was even worse, all our apps were cold when delivered and our lobster linguini was so under cooked you couldn t spin the noodles on your fork. We ended up leaving after eating to get drinks elsewhere. Not sure if the server was new or overwhelmed but one drink within 2 hours isn t acceptable. We had planned to stay and drink there all night. Super unfortunate.

First time at Alora tonight certainly will not be my last. The steak was cooked to perfection and the sides were so tasty. It s very rare that I finish an entire meal and my plate was wiped clean tonight. The service was amazing & Lindsay was always attentive to our big group and very friendly. My fav spot in the city! This restaurant has the best food and ambiance Ottawa has been missing. All the food was amazing. There are so many flavors that complement each other. The crab appetizer was to die for. We shared the platter with friends. So much food and so delicious. Service was superb. Drinks were yummy. Atmosphere was relaxed. Great place with friends or a date night.

We had a reservation and arrived 5 min early. The host very obviously brushed off the table as he sat us. Our utensils were not wrapped with a napkin, and we didn t have a vase/candle like the empty table next to us. Sad that a reservation was sat at a dirty table when there were clearly clean ones available. We ended up leaving before ordering anything because of this and because it was so incredibly loud in the restaurant (not their fault, there was a party behind us screaming and yelling, but there were empty tables throughout the restaurant that they could have sat us at away from this party). Will not be back. Unfortunately cannot review the food but the menu looked good, sad we couldn t stay to try it.

Top-notch service, beautiful interior design, and inspiringly supportive ownership made Alora the ideal location for filming our new television series Suivez-moi: le Rendez-vous, with host Sabine Daniel. Every one of our guests (social media influencers) were instantly enamoured with the space, and were all taken with the large layout and incredible balcony, with both covered and open sections. I have no doubt anyone trying to impress a date, a client, or spend a classy and lively night out with friends will be equally impressed with Alora, which is a stand-out restaurant and cocktail bar in the city of Ottawa.

So far one of my favorite places in Ottawa. The service and food were great. But the best was the bartender making really good cocktails.

Extremely overpriced for the incredibly undersized portions of entirely average food. Ordered the grilled lamb and got the equivalent of 3 bites of meat. At least with this main expect to still be hungry and unsatisfied after finishing your $45 meal and $5 water. Prepare to pay the price of a full meal for an individual cocktail or side. Staff was incredible. Angela was fantastic. Was simply too costly for so little.

The service was good the restaurant is beautiful with a nice roof top bar. The food was deceiving for the price. The flavor of the food is not worth the price ! Nothing was bad but nothing was delicious !

I review a lot of places, and I usually have a good time, but Cathy made the entire night unforgettable, warm, and amazing.

Honestly, they were really sweet to my group of girls I came in with. The waitress I had was amazing and so was the owner. They took care of a situation revolving around our food. This restaurant s customer service is on point and I look forward coming here soon!

Just a overrated bar. Their servers are very unfriendly. They confirmed the booking online and upon arrival couldn t accommodate us inside. They sent us to the rooftop and offered a different menu than the standard menu. We just requested to add one small desert from their main menu and they were not enough customer friendly.

The atmosphere was nice but there was not anything special. The food was ok but the service was a bit odd. We ordered apps and mains... the mains came first and then all the appetizers at the same time, clutter-ing our table. By the time we got to our mains, it was not hot. Not sure why they decided to dump out all the dishes in that timing. The dishes and cocktails themselves were ok with our favorite dish being the steak with the potatoes with garlic sauce. The cod cake was dry and the flavour wasnt great. In all, it was an ok dinner but I dont think their focus is on the food or cocktails.

We randomly hit up this rooftop club last Friday night in Ottawa, it was the highlight of my trip. The Dj was , every song was better than the one before it. We stopped in for 1 drink, but could stop dancing until they had to shut the music off. The drinks, were amazing, every cocktail had a unique twist, and was delicious. We only had the Parm fries for food, but they were the best fries I have ever had. But really, the best part of the night,, were the people. The bouncer, the hostess, the waitress, the dj, the owner, and even one of the cooks, were so cool, so fun, so willi g to go above and beyond to make our night memorable

I think this place looks nice but that s it. We reserved a big group and we didn t get our food for 2 hours. Mind you more than half of the orders we re all appetizers too. Service didn t even fill up our waters often. Food was okay.The only upside is that it looks nice but I wouldn t go again

I have a date night with my husband and were greatly pleased with this place. The drinks are amazing!! The food was also super tasty and the ambiance was great. The bartender was nice and even mixed something off the menu but excellent. We will be back

Vibe is nice inside and on rooftop, but service is weird. We came to celebrate my girls birthday, the salad we ordered never went thru so 40 min later we had to reorder. They said it would be comp d but it wasn t when the bill came out. It s an alright spot but I don t recommend for a celebration of any kind

My family and I had dinner at Alora for my birthday on Sunday evening. We enjoyed several plates shared by all so we all got a taste of a wide variety of dishes and were equally impressed by them all. Can totally see why this is the spot to go if you want to have a date or socialize. But 100% not family oriented, not a bad thing, but just in case others were wondering. We ordered the sharing board and it took over an hour to come out. And despite the food looking absolutely scrumptious, it was not.. not a single item on the board had any flavor. The only reason why I m giving more stars than warranted is because the service was awesome. If you want to come for a good time, go for it. If you re coming because you re tempted by this picture, like I was, absolutely would not recommend.

This is an excellent restaurant if you re looking for a holistic experience (food, atmosphere, service). FOOD: The Korean Fried Chicken ($22) was absolutely delicious. NY Striploin Steak ($48) was pretty good. The smash burger sliders ($21) were good. COCKTAILS: The Aztec Espresso Martini ($18) was excellent. The Dreamsicle ($18) was good. SERVICE: Was very impressed with the service - Angela was very courteous and friendly, offered us different flavoured waters and fruits upon arrival, and apologized when it took a while to grab the bills. The owner even came by at one point and provided us napkins. Angela praised the owner for quite a bit and it is evident with how the restaurant has turned out. AMBIENCE: Thankfully not pretentious (as some supper clubs can be) but definitely classy. The DJ played excellent hits and there was a live saxophonist. It does get very loud inside. PRICE-QUALITY: We spent $265 for 2 ppl (incl. 4 cocktails, 2 mains, and 2 apps, tax and tip). I would say that this makes it on the pricier side but I would argue it was worth it given the quality of the service, food, and ambience.

Hands down the best music in the city ! I ve been to every venue in Ottawa and this was by far our best experience, the Dj truly went above and beyond he read the room so well and knew exactly what to play to keep us on our toes from the beginning of the night till the end ! I had to meet the person behind the phenomenal music played and he was extremely welcoming , his energy was unmatched, and he even helped me book a huge table for my friends birthday 2 weeks later. Everything was so great.it was our first time here. We loved the pistachio Salmon. Friendly staff and awesome service. Oh, the desserts were so good too .. Food

I wanted to love this place, as the interior is stunning and the appetizers we ordered were decent (crab crispy rice and burrata). However, there were several issues that should be addressed to make this restaurant experience stronger. Our reservation was for 8:30, and our appetizers came out quickly. However, we ordered the 10 oz NY striploin for a main and it took an hour to come out. The steak was truly one of the worst steaks I have ever had, it genuinely did not have 1 granule of salt or any form of seasoning. We tried dipping it into the sauce to help, but unfortunately the sauce had a very odd flavour. We asked our server if the steak could be remade as it was flavourless and dry (due to having no salt to lock in moisture). She ensured that it would take exactly 7 mins for our new steak, but that 7 mins turned into 45 minutes and we now received our second steak at almost 11pm. The side of potatoes was pipping hot, but the entire piece of meat was yet again flavourless, but with a new twist, hard cold unrendered fat making up 75% of the steak. It was so cold that the rose shaped butter placed on top was rock solid and we didnt even know it was butter. Not sure why we compromised the steak on the second try just for the potatoes to be hot? Why are we cooking out of order? Texturally the steak was in shambles, resembled rubber, and was incredibly tough to cut and chew. Our server told us she would take it away as we did not eat more than one bite, but not without informing us that the steak fiasco was likely due to the fact they had a couple big parties who were all ordering steak, leading to the smaller tables being neglected. What was even more odd is that two steaks were sent back and barely touched because they were both increasingly inedible, and the steak still ended up on our bill, with a generous 10% off for our troubles? We should have argued this further but we had been sitting there for over 3 hours and just wanted to leave as it was so loud you had to scream to hear the person across from you. Save your money and dine elsewhere. Update: It has been over a month since the manager told me he would call me to make things right, and I have still gotten nothing. Safe to say all of the apologies and promises of making things right were useless and a further waste of my time. Probably best to just ignore a bad review if you are incapable of rectifying the situation.

I took my girlfriend to Alora to celebrate our 1 year anniversary. Sully, along with the Alora staff were able to make our night very special and made our overall experience a night to remember. Food and drinks were amazing. We felt very much taken care of and we will definitely be going back. 100% would recommend.

The food and vibe were top notch at Alora. The menu also changes seasonally, so youll always find something new! My close friend group visited Alora this week for the first time. We like to explore different places, and generally prefer trendy, discrete, or unique locations. Alora would check all 3 boxes. The food was excellent, with a blend of complex flavours fusing cuisine from around the world. For example, the attached picture has 2 dishes: 1) crab bites (with fresh crab, not the canned stuff!) on a crispy fried rice cake filled with avocado moose, and 2) seared tuna with ponzu salad, spicy aioli, and in house taro chips. After dinner, we had a great conversation with Arash, one of the owners, and heard his story, passion, and mission. The context and story is on display with how the restaurant presents itself. Well done and a top recommendation in Ottawa. Looking forward to see the next seasonal menu change and trying something new! Vegetarian options: Many options are available! Dietary restrictions: Very accommodating and attentive to dietary needs.

This place is trully amazing,great food, amazing drinks and above all the service u get makes u feel like your home in a way where u feel u knw all the staff so welcoming music amazing, I recommend all to give this beautifull place a try, cant wait tongo again

LOVE THIS PLACE! Hidden gem in Ottawa. Perfect for a date night, girls night out; honestly come and celebrate anything here! Staff is amazing, very kind and always helpful. The atmosphere adds a lot to the dinning experiences. The food is absolutely amazing. I would recommend everything, but honestly getting a sharing board as a main and of course the crab bites as an appetizer. But dont forget the gyozas, fried chicken or the mini burgers; they are also top tier. This place leaves such an impressionable mark that keeps their guest wanting to come back, and thats why I love it :)

Stylish, lively and fun, this newish supper club is a great addition to the Market scene. We attended with a dinner party and sat up in the balcony overlooking the main bar. The clientele was upscale, which these days means lots of youngish women in cutout dresses and designer bags mixed with bros in v necks and t-shirts . The dj was blasting crowd favorites all night, and I mean blasting. (A little loud for us, but definitely added to the party atmosphere.) The service was attentive and knowledgeable, friendly and helpful. The food overall was great. We had the sampler platter, a meat-heavy party tray capped with a 42 Oz steak,grilled shrimp, lamp chops and sides of foccacia, mushrooms and onion rings. The onion rings were really delicious, and the $210 tray had plenty of food for 4-6 people depending on your appetite. The French fries on the side were also perfect, crisp and flavourful. The desserts were tasty, too, if you still had room! The beignets are made in-house, and the lava cakes were scrumptious. We will be back to try other options off the menu!

Wow, this place was great! My husband and I had a quiet date night and enjoyed the atmosphere, food (lobster pappardelle) and drinks (Aztec espresso martini). High praise to the sous and head chef. The owner came over to see how our meals were. DELICIOUS! Good portion size for the price. We ll be coming back for the rooftop and another yummy meal.

Par contre Pour le dessert mi-cuit, c était un bien cuit il ne vaut pas son prix (14$) et les petits bonbons colorés sur le dessus ce n est pas digne d un restaurant élégant . Lively atmosphere, great ambience, fire music! The food is 10/10! The staff is so friendly and welcoming. We asked the bartender Derek if he could create a fun girly cocktail that was bright in flavour and not too sweet (not on the menu), and he did not disappoint!! :) Eric who was also on bar offered to take a Polaroid photo of me and my best friend which was so cute! The entire team is very talented and attentive to detail. If you have yet to visit Alora, what are you even waiting for??

Very bad experience in this restaurant, they take more than an hour to serve people, amateur waitresses and no consideration to customers, I advise peoples to never try it I was Realy shocked !!!

Went to Alora for the first time, for my friends birthday dinner and we loved it so much! The vibes, food, and customer service were immaculate. They really go above and beyond to make your time feel special. Definitely planning to go again soon. Alora s offers up an atmosphere with a friendly vibe that makes a night out in Ottawa, a premier choice to go. We sat at the corner of the bar, and the two mixologists (Eric and Alex) were simply amazing! Loved the flair they put into their cocktails it almost seemed like it was one of their happy places rather than a job . They recommended a couple cool tequila drinks that were 10/10. A manager was walking by and stopped to say hello; he said if you like crab .you just have to try the Crispy Crab Cakes which we did and were so thankful, because they were also 10/10. We got a few more rounds of food and drinks and everything was top-notch and the presentation of foods and beverages were second to none ! We would highly recommend this place if you are looking for a trendy spot in Ottawa. The food, staff, drinks, atmosphere, everything on point. Haven t enjoyed a night like that in a long time, we ll be back but will be spreading the word in the meantime.

I want to genuinely say as a server whos been in the industry for 10 years, Angela has provided such phenomenal & genuine service. I know how hectic it can be in a busy environment and she killed it. Whoever will served by her in the future at Alora will never forget it. We were a group of 10 people and she was very attentive to everyone and provided quick service. This new restaurant just opened in the market and the experience and food was quite amazing. I truly enjoyed the ambiance and the signature cocktails. Incredible new restaurant in Ottawa. Vibe is fun, relaxing and super romantic (if that s what your looking for). Service is 5 star (love that you can choose the fixings for your water). Food is incredible. Please order the expresso martini (best in Ottawa). All the cocktails are delicious! You cannot order anything bad on this menu.

This new restaurant just opened up, and we looked at the menu beforehand and had to try it out! We came on a Saturday evening for dinner, it wasn t busy but the atmosphere was just perfect. The decor fit the atmosphere really well, I loved the bar display. We ordered 2 appetizers, a salad and an entree to share. The portion size of everything was so large! First, the appetizers - hands down the best part of the meal. The fried chicken and the crab cakes were so tasty and had so much flavour. Next, the salad - we ordered the kale caesar, and it was such a light salad that felt really good. Lastly, the poke bowl with wild rice - it was an interesting take on a poke bowl. It was super flavourful with fresh ingredients. The service was amazing, they were super attentive to our needs and even offered a variety of fresh fruit for our sparkling water! I would definitely come back and order different items off the menu.

Huge thanks to the staff, management and owners of Alora for making our 20th anniversary one to remember! From the moment you walk in, you are greeted not only by the wonderful staff, but also the gorgeous design and atmosphere that just feels warm and welcoming. We had our 8 month old with us, and the staff went above and beyond by seating us where our stroller would not be in the way of other guests, and were very attentive when taking our order and checking in on us during our meal. We had the Crab Cakes to start, my wife had the Salmon Risotto, I had the fried chicken with rainbow fries, and our son had the vegetable medley. The crab cakes were absolutely delicious... crisp and packed with flavor. Both our meals were fresh, extremely tasty, and very generous portions, and our son gave the veggies 2 messy hands up. Definitely not a place to miss out on, we will be back again soon. WOW. What an incredible spot in the Byward Market. Feels like a New York Bistro in the midst of our Canadian Capital. Delicious eats. Cool music. Relaxing atmosphere. Velvet booths. Great lighting. Kind servers. Tasty beverages. Awesome bartenders. Welcoming staff. This spot is tasteful, classy, 10/10 vibes!

Such a disappointment tonight. Our server was lovely, beautiful decor, and some very talented bartenders. However, we waited over two hours for a cold meal. We missed our plans afterwards because of this. We were discounted, but 150$ for four small cold pieces of lamb, dry kofta, Greek salad and bread/French fries? The menu makes the boards sound fantastic, but they are severely underwhelming definitely order a La carte. I really hope this new place gets their rhythm going because we were really looking forward to tonight and brought friends from out of town. I wish them all the best, but should have gone elsewhere tonight.

Everything was delicious! We decided to order few appetizers instead of full meals. My favorite was crispy crab bites. We also ordered fried chicken, whipped feta, rainbow fries and all of them were perfection, so yummy! We will be back for sure!

Not worth the hype. Apps are amazing however the salmon is super fishy, and the chickens dry (presumably over cooked). Servers lack attention to detail.

OTTAWA S NEXT HIDDEN GEM! Such a great time, service and the food was prefect. Staff were wonderful and treated us with such amazing service and were very attentive. They all wished us a Happy Anniversary and even provide complimentary glasses of bubbly to start. Very accommodating with seating, the food was wonderful. We had the Crab Cakes, Fried Chicken, Watermelon Burrata Ball and the Salmon Poke Bowl. We will for sure return.

I love how you get the option based on the mood of the night youre having. The food weve had was a solid 5/5....might even say 6/5! Crispy crab bites - fresh crab thats peeled daily! Not the frozen stuff. Seared Tuna - fresh Tuna. Tastes incredible! Crispy chicken tenders - proper chicken breast thats super tender and tasty. Definitely check them out your next night out. Held a get together for work colleagues, and everything was wonderful. Lindsay was amazing to deal with, and Mila took great care of our group. The food and drinks were great, and the 50% off bottles of wine was a hit with everyone. We will be back!

Upon entering the notably quiet restaurant, we were initially offered a high table. Despite the evident availability of numerous regular tables, we were made to wait as the hostess consulted the booking system. Oddly enough, we were eventually seated in a less-than-ideal corner spot, right next to the bustling kitchen and amidst heavy foot traffic. Our dining experience commenced with two appetizers: the mushroom flatbread and whipped feta. Both failed to impress. The presentation was haphazard, and it was disappointing to receive dishes that were already cold. Flavor-wise, they were nothing to write home about. While our server showed some attentiveness at the start, this soon waned, and by the midpoint of our meal, we felt largely neglected. All in all, the restaurant failed to meet expectations and felt considerably overrated. Given the lackluster food and service, I cant wholeheartedly recommend this establishment.

Alora is a fantastic resto pub that I recently discovered and I must say, it exceeded my expectations. The first thing that caught my attention was the warm and lively ambiance. The place had a great vibe, perfect for hanging out with friends or just enjoying a delicious meal alone. The sharing board at Alora is to die for! It includes a mouthwatering assortment of wedges, calamari, shrimps, and a delightful steak mushroom and asparagus dish. Each item on the board was cooked to perfection and bursting with flavor. The highlight of the board, however, was the steak mushroom and asparagus. The steak was incredibly juicy and perfectly cooked, complemented by the earthy flavors of the mushrooms and the freshness of the asparagus. It was a heavenly combination that left me craving for more. Overall, Alora is a must-visit resto pub for food lovers and those seeking a great atmosphere. Last but not least, thanks for the friendly staff, bartender/owner! Great jobs guys.

I have been to ALORA twice with my family, and everyone had an enjoyable time. They were super accommodating with our little one, also. Food quality was excellent (we have tried most of the items on the menu, and they were all great), service was topnotch (thanks to our waitress Valerie and other staff, you are amazing!), and the cocktail selection and the atmosphere were also great. This place has one of the best rooftop patios in Ottawa if you are also considering hosting an outdoor function. The owners care about social causes as well, which makes the place even more attractive. Keep up the excellent work!

We held an after work event at Alora Ottawa last week and it was simply fantastic. Starting from the planning and communication with Lindsay, to the day-of-execution it was a great experiences. The aura in the room was open, bright and friendly, we received many compliments on the appetizers (Shrimp Skewers, Whipped Feta Bites and Hot-Honey Chicken were amazing). Our guests also mentioned how warm and welcoming the serving staff were. I cant wait to return and enjoy a full service meal.
