Brassica in Ottawa

Food was delicious, the portions aren t very large though. Overall was a good experience.

Wednesday night tapas at Brassica is always fantastic. Last night , we had the lamb poutine, fried cauliflower, chicken slider, ricotta gnocchi, pork belly, scallops and of course the Banoffee pie! My friend made a special trip from Vankleek Hill just to have Arups tapas.

Phenomenal. The food is unmatched. It is difficult to explain, but somehow Chef Jana s food manages to be what you didn t know you wanted while also being exactly what you were longing to taste. We try other restaurants and they re fine and all some are even quite good but we always ask ourselves, But is it Brassica-good? and have to agree that it never is. So now we don t bother with other restaurants and return again and again to this gem. We live some distance away, so don t get in very often, yet the staff remember us and always welcome us warmly. We could not recommend Brassica more.

Brassica is a restaurant Ive been dying to go back to ever since I first went there for a meal with my fiancée. Incredibly food, stunning atmosphere and a friendly staff, this place is a must on Richmond, I would highly recommend the tartare, but with a seasonal menu it may not be there year-round!

We sat and watched the village go by from our cozy vantage point on Brassicas streetside patio. The perfect way to top off a summer Wednesday with tapas night! Vegetarian options: The fried cauliflower with chickpea and currant ticks all the boxes. I could eat just that and be happy.

Great stop for our pub crawl tonight! Cocktails and appetizers were fantastic!!!

Had a lovely evening at Brassica. Great cocktail options, food was amazing and sharing apps allowed us to taste many dishes. Service may have been improved on as there were some times when it took a while to see our server.

What an absolute gem! Went for the first time with a couple of friends for dinner. The space is very inviting and we sat at the window which I always appreciate. Has a casual feel, but the cuisine is definitely upscale! My friend ordered the chicken and pierogis & said it tasted as good as it looked! And she is Polish so she knows her pierogis! My other friend and I ordered a couple of apps to share, the arancini and the salmon. WOW WOW WOW!!! Presentation was incredible, wish I d pulled out my phone to capture, and the flavours! Absolutely incredible!!! I could have had a third app for sure but the 2 made a delectable light dinner Deserves all the exclamation points ok!!!! We had banoffee pie & carrot cake for dessert, delightful! Will definitely be coming back here, bravo Parking: On street so really depends on time of day and day of week as it can be a busy area.

This is by far one of the best restaurants in Westboro. My girlfriend and I make a point of coming here once a month and definitely each time the menu changes. Its that good. The duck leg confit is my all time favorite but you will not be disappointed with anything you order (even the blind, chef special is always on point!) I have made a goal of trying everything on the menu, even foods that I typically dont like.. and they were all delicious. A must in the city of Ottawa as far as dining experiences go. A big thank you to Rodrigo who is often our maestro :) Top class gentleman.

Love this restaurant! Its a perfect place for a special weekend dinner while also being a great choice for post-work drinks and dinner with friends. The food is fantastic and service lovely and attentive. As someone with dietary restrictions (celiac / gluten free) I also appreciate how accommodating and knowledgeable they are.

Impressive gastronomic experience. The food is exceptional, best we have had so far (Yellowfin Tuna, Steak and frites and the salmon are highly recommended) service is friendly and professional. Atmosphere would even be better with some background music.

What a wonderful place. Started with an amazing warm salad, of perfectly cooked and seasoned vegetables. Then had a lamb shank, octopus and a veg lasagne. Great cocktails, Cabernet Sauvignon, and my wifes Argentinian shrimp pasta was perfectly done. Very attentive service, and was lucky enough to get a parking spot right out front.

UPDATE: We had one of our best meals in Ottawa and felt my already 5-star review needed further praise. The entire Brassica team went above and beyond. The food remains excellent; their attention to allergens and dietary requests remains incredibly thorough; the patio is still one of the nicest on Richmond. However, our most recent experience proves that Brassica was a 5-star, but is now better than 5 stars and that deserves mentioning. We had an enjoyable meal on their patio. Our server was nice and the food was fabulous. They were great about complying with dietary needs. Everything we had was great, but the standout winners were the duck and the flat iron steak. We will be returning.

The food is sensational. It s been a while that I ve been blown away by a dish, I was blown away by 5 dishes in one meal here! Every bite was so balanced and satisfying that I was making sounds the whole time. Literally hits you like a punch in the face and it didn t miss a thing. Amazing work guys, please keep it up. The service was mediocre at best, transactional and made us feel like we re an inefficient inconvenience to them, they weren t rude though. If they can make their service as good as their food, this place would easily be Michelin stars worthy. Props to the kickass kitchen!

Warm,clean, and inviting atmosphere. The website is user-friendly, and it was easy to make a reservation. Tea candlelit ambiance was very cute! Service was attentive to us! Very kind. The food overall was delicious and fresh. The shrimp tartine was not to my taste, but the miso roasted duck breast was amazing! Pricey but worth it! Overall, its a great date spot/celebratory spot. Dietary restrictions: Ask beforehand. They are able to accommodate as written in the menu.

We went to the Brassica last weekend to celebrate my wifes anniversary. We have always liked that restaurant in the past but sadly, our experience last weekend didnt meet our expectations... Our server was dressed almost too casual, and barely showed up during our entire meal. We waited 45 minutes between the appetizer and our main course ( the restaurant wasnt full...) Food was okay.. but not to the level of its price. It was on salty side, the mushroom toast appetizer had its bread completely burnt, Cod in main course was overcooked. On the other hand, the mushroom and duck tart as part of the blind menu in main course was phenomenal. However because of the overall experience, we decided to skip desert. I hope this was a one-off and our experience will be better next time because other restaurants in that category have their standards way higher on all fronts than what we experienced last weekend.

The food was the highlight. Empanadas were great, served as 3 small empanadas with a good balance of flavour. Ordered the blind surprise entree and really enjoyed it, a very balanced plate was served. Others in our party thought the mains were okay (Cornish Hen, Steak and Meat & Potatoes). Atmosphere I find to be a little lacking and it is very brightly lit, noise level was good for conversation, but the chairs were not very comfortable. I would go back, but I am not in a rush to do so.

Had an excellent meal here. The yellowfin tuna starter was extremely well flavoured with a superb sauce. The leg of duck confit was crispy on the outside and full of flavour underneath. It was served with a purée of parsnip topped with bacon, and a flavourful garnish. The wines were of good quality andxthe service attentive and friendly.

The menu may seem ordinary, because there are no trendy dishes there (e.g. fried cauliflower starter), but their way of preparing them is nothing ordinary. What a surprise and what a delight for the taste buds! And what about the service? Courteous, attentive, fast and, as a bonus, we were spoken to in French.

We got the duck leg and it was delicious, tender and packed with flavour. The rest of the menu looked equally hardy and delicious - eager to try other dishes next time.

Practically perfect in every way. Top 5 meals I ve had. Only request would be to turn down the lights by 2/3. The brightness gives it a diner feel when your food is worthy of much more.

Outstanding evening with impeccable service. We had a situation where the couple we were with had to suddenly have to leave due to a medical issue. They asked for the bill and to have their main courses (which were just being plated) packed up. The serving staff handled this with such professionalism and calmness it was astounding. Then after their food was brought out in take out containers, the medical issue subsided a little to where our friends decided they could at least have dinner at the table. Again, our server was amazing. Well just replate it!. They didnt just dump it on the plate ..no, it looked like it was made fresh and plated right out of the kitchen. And, all food was a absolutely exceptional. Amazing experience. Go there...

Beautiful plating and always a delicious symphony of taste sensations! Although the portions are on the smaller side, it is a fun opportunity to order several plates and share.

First time to back to Brassica since I last visited Allium. Glad to see the quality is still there. A bit pricey tho.

Absolutely amazing! The gastronomic genius and commitment to the highest quality food, preparation and service reminds me of only one other exceptional restaurant (Allium! Coincidentally, same owner and chef!! LOL). Looking for a wonderful meal in a casual bistro setting, look no further. Looking for a wonderful meal during the pandemic? Enjoyed the Valentines DInner for two at home. Excellent tuna with perfect tasty accompaniments, then a satisfying and rich tomato/squash soup, an arancini that was a nice break before a delicious portion of baked gnocchi with shrimp & a few bites of kale. Then crispy, tender fried chicken complemented by a variety of sweet, crunchy pickles and aioli. Finished off with a light and balanced cheesecake with lemon curd and dollops of torched marshmallow. Lots to eat and everything in its right place, really good!

We ordered their Valentines menu for two and were blown away by the quality of the food. We absolutely loved the arancini, tuna crudo, soup and fried chicken. The reheating instructions were helpful as well. Thanks for the wonderful meal!

I was incredibly impressed by this restaurant and Im super glad I found it, Id give over 5 stars if I could! Starting with the service, it was excellent. Everything between calling us beforehand to ask about any dietary needs to just being super quick, friendly and knowledgeable and asking for feedback prior to our dinner just showed great initiative to go above and beyond. The food and cocktails were also phenomenal, the Made You Blush cocktail was amazing as well as the brassicas for the appetizer. The main was also absolutely delicious, a combination of foods you would never think to pair together but it was all so incredibly flavourful and pleasant. Lastly, COVID protocols were good in my opinion too between asking screening questions as we arrived, mask-wearing, tables far apart from one another and hand sanitizer at each table. I, will be returning!

Our menu was a traditional menu, not a sharing plates menu. Well priced for the quality of what you get. Mushroom toasts was the best thing Ive had in a long time!! We enjoyed a delicious dinner from Brassica this past weekend. It was our first time ordering from them and we will be back! I had ordered the dinner for two (x2.5) for my mothers birthday and we were honestly blown away. It takes an exceptionally skilled chef to really meld together diverse flavours so beautifully, but theyve mastered it at Brassica. This was easily the best take-out weve had, ever. It was like fine dining in our home. The tomato & corn salad was a refreshing medley of flavours. The arancini were cooked to perfection - not greasy or too dense. Everyone raved about them. The braised short-ribs were delectably tender and the pickled squash added a zing of tartness that was refreshing. The chocolate & coffee pudding was the perfect ending to our meal. Portions were large and we had some leftovers as the meal was very filling. We really appreciated the notes for reheating (if necessary), ensuring that our meal tasted just as good as it would have in restaurant. Also really appreciated Brassica adding in a candle for the celebration (especially since stores are closed for non-essential purchases and this allowed us to make the celebration a bit more special). If you havent tried Brassica, you should!

Ate food from here last night, and honestly, it was delicious. Had salmon, salad, and a beef brisket that was so incredible. Nice little dessert too. Had the choice to pair wine, I didnt, but I should have. Inside looks good too, so we will order here again until we can go in-person safely.

My husband and I have ordered from Brassica a bunch of times during the pandemic, and every time the food is beautifully prepared and presented, and is so delicious! From the fresh salads, to the decadent pasta dishes, to the duck confit (OMG), everything is so yummy. We will definitely order again and look forward to visiting the restaurant as soon as we can!

Have been four or five times in recent months and never fails to impress - new menu every week, bread baked in house, sauces colourful but don t overwhelm dishes - fish cooked just right - can t say enough about Brassica. ok now adding more raveness to this review - new pic from the feast for our eyes and tummy - THANK YOU Maggie and Arup and team for making this pandemorama bearable and at times delicious.

Really Tasty Lamb Shank, Friendly Staff

Food was great and service was excellent. Really enjoyed our time there.

One of the most pleasant surprises ive had in the many times ive eaten out since patios reopened. I had the summer veg pasta and the broccoli caesar salad. The pasta was tangy and full of different textures. The caesar broccoli was also excellent, each floret caramelized and coated in dressing without losing any of its crunch. It almost saddens me to think the menu changes so frequently. I really look forward to returning.

Five stars are not enough. Every morsel is heavenly. You literally cannot go wrong with any item on the menu. The staff are impeccable. They treat every customer like a VIP (shoutout to Rodrigo, you are fantastic). If I had the funds, I would dine there every single day. Try the duck, try the mushrooms on toast, try the Banoffee pie.

What a great meal. Everything was really good. We were with others so tried lots of different options. The Caesar salad was so delicious and different with roasted broccoli. The fries with their aioli were crisp and so yummy. Duck breast was done medium rare and so good. The steak tartare was excellent. The others raved about the pork belly. What else can I say but I will be back

Overpriced and small portions. If you want to walk away hungry and feeling ripped off, this is the place. The food and the service were actually not bad. I just disagree with the portions. Or reduce the price. $35 for a plate of maybe 5 pieces of steak... Really? At least give more fries or something. Or add a side salad.

This was a very good experience. I got the steak and it was amazing. The service was friendly and the food had so much seasoning and flavour. The appetizer calamari was crisp and served with a very good aioli. And the desserts were heavenly. Very highly reccomend, however the prices are a little high.

Have been here a few times and service and food are always exceptional. I was here last night for my cousin s birthday celebration and between 4 girls, we had the arincini, Caesar salad, mushroom toast and braised beef and duck confit. Recommend all. Oh and their banoffee pie is OUT OF THIS WORLD.

I had been waiting and was excited to try Brassica and had high expectations having dined at Allium for years. Unfortunately I m quite disappointed and confused by the 4.9 stars on google. Here is an overview of our experience: Food: 2/5 Halloumi salad: 3 tiny pieces of halloumi badly burnt with a strong taste of oil. Mushroom on toast: delicious Braised short rib: meat was cold and dry, fries were fresh and crispy but with a strong taste of oil. Service: 1/5 One of the most poor service experiences at this type of establishment. Inattentive server, took over 30 mins to get our wine, completely forgot to bring bread to the table, did not come back a single time to refill wine glasses or water. I really wanted to like brassica, but after this experience we will not be back.

Take-out review: food was exceptional and hard to pick a favourite but the duck was outstanding, so was the banoffee pie! And really appreciated the attention to detail - when packing up the meals (for three people having three courses - all different) staff ensured, no, were very specific in ensuring like temperature items were packed in separate bags. You d think is would be obvious but the number of times I ve pulled a salad from between two hot entrees is nothing short of disappointing.

Great service! The seating area was a bit cramped and the food arrived later than expected but the taste was superb! We ordered yellowfin tuna tartare, eggs Benedict with mushroom and fried chicken and waffle. Each of these items tasted fresh and delicious with beautiful plating. The tuna tartare looked beautiful and was absolutely delicious but came in a very small portion considering the price but otherwise the place is fantastic and definitely worth the price.

What a lovely experience! My spouse, wonderful friend and myself enjoyed a Birthday celebration at Brassica. We ordered the beet infused salmon, shrimp spaghetti, steak and frites, baked cauliflower and salad. We enjoyed every bite. Service was wonderful. As we live in Westboro, we will be back often. I went for my first time last night and it was DELICIOUS!! The mushroom toast and the steak tartar (see pic) blew my mind!

The service was fantastic. We came for a birthday dinner with friends and the atmosphere, food and wine was exactly what we were hoping for. The mushroom toast, fried chicken and beef tartare were our favorites but really everything was delicious. Thank you! I will definitely come back.

Just fantastic. Both food and cocktails were creative and delicious. I can t wait to go back and try the brunch menu!

Mediocre. Not worth the hype or the price. Its a busy restaurant, so make sure to make a reservation if you want to give it a try. We had an early reservation at 5:45 p.m., and thats pretty much when the resto opens for dinner. The interiors were okay, nothing exiciting, but the service was good. We were seated at our table as soon as we got got there and a waitress came over pretty quickly. So, service wise, I am happy. However, it was the food that just killed our experience. I guess my expectation was quite high, given how this resto was started and the background of the founders. Sadly, it was bit of a disappointment. Also, I found the menu a bit confusing. Its really a sharing menu, but its not very clear, is it? You need to order at atleast two items per person, but to be honest, that wont be enough. We ordered the following items: Fried Cauliflower (4 stars). It was good. Loved the sauce. Crispy Calamari (3 stars). It was ok. It wasnt actually crispy. Fries (1 star). Terrible. Jees! Dont waste your money. Lamb Spaghetti (2 stars). Total disappointement. This was one item I was looking forward to eat. A soupy lamb spaghettti, thats what it was. Chunks of lamb was just thrown in and felt like the pasta was picked up from a grocery store. :( Yellowfin Tuna Crudo (3 star). It was good. Small portion. Crispy Duck Confit (3 star). It was okay. I would say, the skin was cripsy. Also, the overall presentation of the food wasnt exiting.

Weve been here several times, and the food has always been excellent; the dishes are interesting, varied, and have wonderful taste and texture profiles. The cocktails have been hit-or-miss, though. But not enough to deduct a whole star. Id give it a 4.5.

The food was amazing.

We just shared three appitizers and a bottle of wine, but all our food was very good. The musroom toast is delicious. Good service and pretty reasonable prices. Id like to go back and try more off their menu, it all sounds yummy.

After so many years of top notch and consistently reliable food and service (at Allium), the tradition continues with Brassica. Kudos to this entire team for its resilience in rising to the occasion - in the wake of Alliums fire, and now the pandemic. All six things we tried (Tuna, Heirloom tomatoes, roasted broccoli, brisket, shrimp, chicken....and of course the always next level banoffee pie) were exceptional. Id give it six stars here, if I could.

I ordered a takeout dinner for two for Saturday Oct 17th. It included an appetizer, salad, Baked Gnocchi, Braised Beef Short Rib and Chocolate Pudding. My friend and I were delighted with the meal which was hot when it was delivered to me curb side, it was very tasty and just the right amount. There is definitely a chef in the kitchen . We plan to do this again.

Great food. They do the whole old lady floral plates trend which is nice. We had the tuna crudo, the gnocchi, and the shrimp. Great place for a date. Edit: only negative thing I can say is that I think the pasta for the shrimp dish was slightly undercooked rather than Al dente.

Last week my wife and I had the great pleasure of a wonderful Dine-in meal at Brassica. The Covid protocols are very evident and we felt quite safe there. As we waffled back and forth between the red wines by the glass, Jess, our amazing waitress, never batted an eye, as she just kept cheerfully pouring tastes of one wine after another until we finally chose two. There was a sign on the stairs saying.. Must try the Mushrooms on Toast.. so we did.. so should you. My wife had shrimp, i had duck breast.. suffice it to say that Brassica knows what theyre doing and never disappoints. This is a restaurant that I hope will be around for a long time and we look forward to our next meal there.
