Browns Socialhouse Centretown in Ottawa

Lots of yummy menu choices. We were served quickly, and our meals were hot and delicious. Good selection of wine and cocktails. Vegetarian options: There are vegetarian dishes on the menu Parking: The restaurant was packed [week b4 Christmas], so make reservations if you can. Well absolutely return.

Excellent service. Pick order was ready on time. Each item was labeled with the person s name. Food was delicious. Something for everyone on the menu.

I ll start by saying that the food is good and we ve all had great experiences at other Browns locations. That said, the Elgin St location is not well-run. Some friends and I booked our table for 5:15pm, and the reservation site said it was a 2.5 hour seating time. When we arrived, we were told that we only had the table until 7pm (1h 45 min). They rushed our dinner, bringing the mains before the starter was done, and did not offer us a second round of drinks. We had to flag the waitress down to ask for a second round, and then were asked to settle up our tab before the drinks were even half drunk. We asked where we could sit to finish up our drinks, and the waitress didn t know. She had to go ask. She came back to tell us they had cleared another booth for us to sit in, and escorted us there. (So, my question is, why not sit the new people in there, rather than ousting your perfectly comfortable guests who had been planning to spend the evening and pay for a number of more rounds?) When she sat us down in the new booth, she introduced another time limit, telling us we could have it only until 7:30pm. They also never came to check on us once we were at the new table. We spent close to $100 per person there, and regrettably still tipped pretty well, but the result is that we felt unwelcome due to their inability to plan and book properly. If you overbook your tables, that s on you. You figure it out. Don t make your paying customers who came out to have a good time with friends, feel like they are a nuisance. Not cool, Browns. We will not be back.

Had a great time here with a group. I had a slush bellini which tasted like fuzzy peaches and was DELICIOUS, and the thai chicken soup + cowboy salad was to die for! We lingered a long time, great vibes.

The butter chicken curry was alright. Ive had it here before, the overall portion is reasonable but the amount of chicken is pretty weak. Definitely hoping for a better result. There are many other places to go for a good butter chicken, Ill skip Browns next time or Ill order something else. The sesame ginger gyoza is a great starter, highly recommended. Good atmosphere and attentive service.

Great location good did good service but much else I can say

Not sure about the other food items but the nachos were less than desirable. Portion size was small, cheese was barley melted, and was dusted with sprinkles of beef. Very underwhelming for a $25 plate of nachos. Atmosphere is business casual with accommodating staff. Nothing special. Kid-friendliness: Not too kid friendly.

Lackluster service, inattentive and slow service and below-average food coupled with a relatively small selection. I probably expected too much based on the positive reviews and was disappointed. 2 stars because of the good atmosphere, but that was it. Wouldnt come again.

Had Dinner here for the first time. Staff is very friendly and food was very yummy. It can be a bit loud though so maybe shit outside if possible.

Came in for dinner this evening before our show. Had Britt as our server - she was friendly and efficient, and we really enjoyed her recommendations. French dip is a must try along with cookie jar. Nice spot, a bit loud though. Was nice to have manager checking in on dining experience. Will be back

We went for dinner tonight (Friday Aug. 16). Excellent ambience and food/drinks marred by very poor service. Fortunately afterwards, the general manager himself replied to my feedback, showed accountability and committed to rectifying this staff service level encountered. His professional efforts demonstrated an authentic management level interest in quality management and helped ensure the restaurant s good reputation in our eyes. We certainly plan to return in the near future.

Visited a couple of times this week and food was of very good quality with a diverse selection. MUCH better than similar restaurants nearby. Service was hit & miss. At times friendly and prompt, but during the busy lunch hour was a total mess. Theyre clearly understaffed & with no plan for busy times. It was odd ask for us to go inside to get seated outside, then (afterva long wait) came in & seated us? Also the servers were quite curt. Outdoor seating was especially nice and I really like how they set up their washroom area I wish more restaurants would consider doing the same.

Wow! I tried their fish and chips, calamari, and Thai soup. The best food in a long time.

Waited a reception area for a while. My wife has hip problems. Was told that no booths were available that they were all reserved. There were quite a few empty booths. Offered the bar area only. Not even offered an ETA to wai. Wont be back.

Trent was amazing, great recommendation of food and dessert and he knows how to sell dessert to you. I have no regrets. A very fun and high energy server.

No questions were asked by the service. I ordered burgers, but the buns and the tomato inside were cold. The meat patty was warm but didn t seem freshly grilled. I have a good sense of smell, and the patty had a slightly off odor nothing that would make you sick immediately, but similar to ground beef that s been in the fridge for two days past its best-before date. I wasn t 100% sure, but my visit to the bathroom the next morning confirmed I should have trusted my instincts. For such a high price, the quality of the food was disappointing. Maybe it s because the place is in the city center? Either way, I won t be coming back.

I have been here several times. Service is hit or miss regardless of how busy/slow it is. It can get very loud in there. The food is good but nothing mind blowing. The location is one of the best parts of this place.

Went there for the first time today for dinner and I have mixed feelings about this place. I would go back for The food and the place who were great and really distinctive but I didnt like the service. As soon as we told to our server that we didnt want alcohol because it was really hot outside, he biffed his paper and then after we never saw him again until he gave us our bill. So I dont think Ill come back to a place that doesnt respect his customers.

Server (Mimo) was amazing. But we had some issues with the food. Outside of that great server. Music was also very nice

Edit: I modified my review to 3 stars because the restaurant manager reached out to me, spoke to staff about our experience, and offered some compensation for our negative experience. We will try the restaurant a second time. Original review: Had a reservation for 6 PM under my name but only arrived at 6:15 PM to dine with my mother - we had a show at 8 pm at the NAC next door. No server came to take our orders or even serve us water after more than 20 minutes, and then we continued to feel unwelcome. My mom who had a weak leg got exhausted of waiting and stood up waiving her arms in the air to get a servers attention and asked whether we should order poke bowls because we told her we had only 1 hour left. The server, who look annoyed of being called, said shed ask the kitchen. Server took 10 minutes to come back (this time with only one glass of water) and replied that the poke takes time because some ingredients need to be cooked still. My mom replied to the server that we now have 45 minutes, and asked her what was the fastest meal. Server replied that she didnt know and that shed go back to the kitchen and ask. Meanwhile we noticed that another couple at a table across who arrived slightly after us had already had received their plates. 10 minutes later said server only came back when my mother waived her arms again a second time, and that server said that the fastest meal would be pasta. Not looking pleased, my mom asked if there was any solution, like asking the kitchen if they could prioritize us since weve been waiting for so long. I mentioned that we only have 35 minutes left now, and replied, you know what, lets go elsewhere. We left and the server did not seem to bat an eye. After walking for a block, we ended up having to grab a subway next door in order to not arrive late to the NAC concert. The concert was great but our dining experience was terrible. I dont think I want to go back at this restaurant.

Stopped here for a late lunch was really load at first but the patrons settled in and the food began to roll out. We decided on the lettuce wraps and calamari- not disappointed at all. Great local beer selection and friendly service Vegetarian options: Menu is chalked full of tasty plant forward options. Parking: Located on a very busy Elgin Street lots of paid parking available but few street parking spots. Wheelchair accessibility: Ground level entry and booths or tables for seating choices.

Went out on a Sunday afternoon for some food and drinks, and was pretty impressed with their happy hour deals and brunch menu. Food quality was good, and I was surprised by their sushi as well, which was as good as most sushi places. Drinks were nice and their patio was pleasant and provided a good street view. Lucky, one of the managers there, really made it even better and tied it all together. He was personable and made good recommendations on drinks and bites. All in all I would happily recommend this spot to anyone in the area needing some snacks and and a few drinks.

Let me start by saying I have been here a few times. All other times I enjoyed my food and experience. I found the service great. Last night I went for a bday party with 10 ppl. It was not busy inside, the server confused many peoples drink orders, food came out at random times (apps and meals), it took forever to actually get our food and my meal had a piece of plastic sticker in it. The Manager dealt with it and brought me a fresh dish and took it off my bill. So she handled it well. But our server just wasn t really attentive or happy. Maybe she was having a bad day. I won t be rushing back now. But they do serve a great brunch and I do enjoy their cocktail offerings. The Hey Buckaroo was delicious. Just hoping the service standards and food standards of this new Glebe spot aren t already suffering.

Went in today after work to enjoy drinks and food at the patio. We were shown our table at 4pm and for exactly 25min we sat there waiting for a server to come by even if to say I ll be right there with you . And for those 25 min two servers kept walking by several times without stopping by our table or even an acknowledgment as if we were invisible. This was the 4th but last time we ll ever go there. Other times were good but this time around we felt so insulted we re never going back and would not recommend ever. Ended up leaving (no one noticed) and walked for a couple of min to the nearby Johnny Farina and both service and food were impeccable.

Nice place to hangout, nice food options to choose from. We tried the social options(veg) which are available between 2-5 and they tasted so good.

We were there on June 2 2024 for our daughters wedding luncheon. Reservations were made well in advance and they were ready for us when we arrived. We received a very warm reception and amazing service thereafter. A very special thank you to our waitress Mimi and to the gentleman host who made our experience wonderful. Thank you very very much! And yes the food and drinks are also amazing and reasonably priced.

It really is a social house. People go there no only to eat but also for gathering. I had a burger and fries and they were both great. There are tables outside and seats at the bar.

I come every so often and their alfredo tastes great every time! One of their servers, Bethan, is amazing; professional, polite, and detailed. Good service! Their mojitos are also really good - worth the try.

This location is not too far from the downtown core. Service is great and the food quality is more than acceptable. Served Japanese ramen at a western style restaurant was a surprise for me. The table size for 6 and the seats were a bit squishy.

The Sechuan Beef Noodle Bowl was amazing, a tad pricey but so delicious. The doubled cooked little bowl of fries was equally delicious with the Garlic Aioli side however $10.00 for the quantity was over the top. The draft & bottled.beer at almost 10.00 a piece again was way too pricey. The service was exemplary, the atmosphere was a buzzing.

Server was prompt and efficient. Had a burger and salad. Burger was tasty and properly cooked for my liking. Salad was underwhelming with what looked and tasted like flaccid lettuce leaves that had been refrigerated for too long.

Worst service ever! It was the first time in my whole life that I gave %0 tip!!!! Family of 4, went there on Sunday Feb. 18th, 2024, afternoon. Two or three tables were occupied. But we had to wait long to be served with our food. Food was also not worth the money!! Then I finished my beer, and waited for more than 10 minutes for a staff to pay attention to our table, so I could ask for on more pint of beer. I didnt order another one at the end because of that!!! Staffs were passing by our table almost every minute, but didnt even bother asking if we needed something or not. They preferred gathering behind the counter and talk to each other than serving the customers!

Disappointing top to bottom. We arrived with 2 teenagers and we immediately seated in the booth in the corner in the back away from the rest of the restaurant. We asked to be moved. When asking the waiter for suggestions in the bowl section of the menu, he literally pointed to and suggested the most expansive thing on the menu (not a bowl). My partner ordered a poke bowl, the waiter asked he he wanted more tuna, sure, how much extra $10!!! Maybe he should have said ok, as the meal that arrived did not even have a reasonable portion of protein. The upselling was gross. The bowls had minimal protein. The fries were cold (rookie mistake). All in all, it was Very expensive for Very lousy. Do Not confuse this with Browns Craft House which AMAZING in service, atmosphere and ambiance.

Fast and friendly service, good cuisine, adaptable spices according to tastes on request. Big screens for sports fans. A very small downside - some places require you to break your neck to see the screens - maybe add a few mirrors to avoid stiff necks

Burned food! Very low quality

Rather than a pub, Browns refers to themselves as a SocialHouse, a nice take on the classic term. This vibrant restaurant is located on Elgin St. immediately facing Ottawa City hall, with French bistro combined with a sports bar vibe. The menu is quite extensive offering a large selection of Shareables, Burgers, Salads, Bowls and a few large main dishes. For our meal, we chose a number of shareables including the Crispy Cauliflower (very good), Kung Pao Chicken Lettuce Wraps (good) and the Little Nachos (a nice option compared to the always oversize and must-shareable regular nachos...however ours arrived cold and clearly had been sitting there for some time...if it did arrive hot I think we would have enjoyed it alot) ending with the Baked Carrot Cake for dessert (good). Overall service was good although the server was not always present and it took some time for the meal to arrive (although the restaurant was quite busy at the time). Enjoy!

We came here for a bite to eat and some drinks before a show at the NAC on a Tuesday. We made a reservation (which turned out to be good, because otherwise we would not have been seated. Our first impression was how LOUD the place was. The music was booming. Its 6pm on a Tuesday, why is the music at a club level? How are we supposed to be social when we cant hear each other? We were brought menus and given lots of time to read them. Our drink orders were taken, and our server came back to take our food orders before they brought us our drinks. It was definitely busy but it just seemed like odd pacing. Our menus were left on the table. We ordered cauliflower bites as an appetizer and it was fine, but nothing special. For our mains we ordered the Szechuan Noodle Bowl and the sushi and salad. Our mains were also fine, but nothing special... given the price point of over 25 dollars for a plate of food it was underwhelming. It took an hour from the time we arrived to the time that our food arrived From a value standpoint, we wont be back. However, this place seems to be insanely popular so Im sure they wont miss us.

The food was very good, the waiter who was the barman gave us good information on the menu. They have happy hour after 9 that include many discount on the drinks that were also very good. The long island iced tea has a bit of mango slush in it and it really add to the taste.

It was a bit expensive but the money was worth the food. I wasnt disappointed. Great burger and poke. The waiter was forgetting us most of the time. He wasnt friendly and seemed not to care. The ambiance was good. Great for socializing before or after an event.

Brown Social House is one of my favourite go to restaurants. Although I love their lunch/dinner menu! I love nothing more than their Brunch! So delicious, and their sister store and bank is quickly becoming a favourite of mine too

A beautiful place absolutely to visit. Soup with salad served with toast.. So tasty! Tasting it once, we had to come back to this place every day during our Ottawa vacation. The service was exceptional, fast and always attentive. I recommend.

Went here this am for brunch. The ambience was nice and my rose mimosa was tasty. Unfortunately, the kitchen messed up both of our poached egg orders- my partner ordered poached hard and they were poached soft. He was gracious about it and didn t mention anything, but it is frustrating! Also unfortunately the server was inattentive. Unlikely to return, at least to this location.

The kind of place which manages to feel both trashy yet be offensively overpriced, considering the uninspired food served. The waitresses complete the experience of giving the impression that youre at a low end suburban strip club. Good location I guess.

The French Dip sandwich was delicious. Golden whiskey sour was a refreshing cocktail as well. Also enjoyed a Guinness poured well. Had a nice quiet booth but other areas of seating are situated near tv s playing sporting events.

EXCELLENT SERVICE & FOOD! We showed up without a reservation on a night that there was a show at the NAC. Our only choice was to sit at the bar, but that proved to be a great idea since we not only got great food and drinks but it was entertaining watching the bartender making drinks. I think our main server was the bartender but everyone who stopped by the bar, whether it was to help the bartender or put in an order or unload the dishwasher, not only talked to us but made sure we had everything we needed, got us more water, took our dishes away, took our dessert order, etc. The service was exceptional! I had nachos with beef and they were the best Ive ever had. Thank you for a great night, even though our show got cancelled, supper out was wonderful!

Not worth the money. We ordered nachos and cauliflower bites. The bites were good, but the nachos were a disappointment. The cheese was melted on top, but not underneath, the beef was overcooked and the garnish was processed. Then, we discover a kitchen service charge on our bill for the cooks salaries! I saw no fee notice beforehand and arent cooks paid employees? No explanation beyond that. I will not be going back.

There was so much to like at Elgin Street Brown s social House! Parking was easy and available. The food was great quality, delicious, and the right quantity. I felt like I was being fed and not just teased with a tiny bit of food as most restaurants are doing these days. The prices were most reasonable And here was what I am paying for in addition to Great Food: Excellent service where the waiter made sure to be friendly and provide us with what we needed. He made suggestions and he was definitely personable and enjoying himself. But not trying to be the center of attention. I also checked out the bathrooms and they were immaculate! That tells me everything I need to know - that the kitchen would be immaculate as well! The design and the decor of the place were impressive. I love the materials used and the layout which was conducive to accommodating a lot of people, but not creating a noisy, messy, or crowded atmosphere. Excellent shows on the television I was starstruck watching the big wave surfing! What a welcome treat that hardly any restaurants in Ottawa provide! For the record I had the lettuce wraps which featured an incredible, slightly spicy sauce, extremely fresh and crispy lettuce that actually separated into small little bowl-sized pieces that I could scoop the chicken and vegetables into quite easily! Lettuce wraps often come with completely immovable parts But clearly at Brown s social house, somebody has already tested the dish to see that it is functional and usable and doable! (and easily edible, especially when you have to put your own food together! ) Good job! It wasn t messy or sloppy and I was able to really enjoy my lettuce wrap. This might sound a little bit overly detailed but I wanted to make sure that you know I noticed these small things because I am a very, very picky diner! Nobody rushed us to pay our bill. We had a wonderful time and I will be back again! Basically ticked all the boxes for me!

Very busy and loud place. Its great for groups though! We had the Dragon Bowl with Teriyaki Chicken and the Tikki Tuna Poke Bowl, which were both big portions and actually pretty filling! The Baked Carrot Cake dessert was unfortunately not good. It came super burnt and we ended up barely eating any of it.

Stopped in after skating. Very quiet on a Sunday afternoon. Perhaps 3 other tables in the entire restaurant. Manager asked us 3 times if we were ready to order after sitting for 5 minutes. We asked for more time. Waitress was lovely and took good care of us. Unfortunately my husbands quesadilla was very overcooked. Was asked how everything was before we had one bite. Manager walks by repeatedly and doesnt ask or acknowledge that my husbands beer glass is empty and that I was never brought water. Unfortunately it was not a great experience considering that we were one of 5 tables in an hour

Came here for dinner and got the spicy chicken sandwich, with a Caesar salad. The salad was pretty good, the real bacon was nice, but it was weird to have maple bacon in a Caesar salad. The croutons had a nice flavor, but for the cost of the upcharge I would have expected a slightly larger portion of it. The chicken sandwich was pretty middle of the road. The breading was nice and crispy, but there was lots more batter than there was chicken. The chicken itself was also kind of on the dry side, and the sandwich felt like it didnt have enough sauce on it. Overall, a pretty average experience, though for $25+ for a chicken burger and salad, I think Id expect a bit more.

I had a good experience at Browns Social, I enjoyed a couple of Happy Hour items and a beer. Prices were reasonable because it was happy hour though. I would definitely return because I found great value in the happy hour menu.

Went browns social house for a family dinner last week and had an amazing experience. Ann was our server and she made sure we had everything we needed and even got us a free dessert!

Overall great place to dine in! Was served by Ann and it was absolutely the best experience I ever had and that s saying a lot. I ve been to many bars over the years.

Great location. Noodle bowl is great, can be a little spicy for some bites though. Server Ann was great. Carrot cake is a must.

Came in the other night for a bite to eat with my wife the other night, and had a wonderful evening. I had a butchers block burger with sweet potato fries, and the wife had some fish tacos. Everything was delicious. Our server Ann was wonderful, kept our drinks topped up, and let us know when the kitchen was running late with larger tables, and people coming from the NAC , though it was busy, we were very taken care of. Would recommend 10/10.

My friend and I come in all the time to hangout by the bar. Usually same bartenders on weekend but met a great new addition Ann today. Will continue coming back!

Food was amazing! First time there so was unsure what was good but luckily had a smart and very attentive waitress named Brittany who knew the menu thoughly and was able to provide me recommendations.

Great time with great food. Our server, Brittany, was the highlight. She took great care of us and was super friendly! Can t wait to come back.

After a long day at work, my buddy and I decided to stroll around downtown Ottawa, looking for a spot to grab a quick drink before dinner. We first walked past Browns Socialhouse but circled back to it a few blocks later. It turned out to be a great decision. Since it was a quiet Monday night, the atmosphere was relaxed and inviting. We found a cozy spot to sit and began with drinks. I ordered a Coffee Buzz Martini, which was fantastic. It blended the rich flavors of coffee with the sophistication of a martini perfectly. I couldnt resist getting another drink, my go-to Amaretto with coke, which they made just right. The drinks set the tone for a great evening. What really made our night special was the excellent service. Even though it was a slow Monday, the staff were friendly and attentive, making us feel like valued guests. To sum it up, our visit to Browns Socialhouse Centretown was a pleasant surprise. It offered a relaxed setting for a chill evening with great drinks and top-notch service. Whether its a Monday or any other day of the week, Id recommend stopping by for some quality downtime.

Food is pretty good, a level above any pub or restaurant around. The service was great and the place was very clean and asthetically pleasing. I recommend!

This is our go to place for food and drinks. Order anything from the menu it tastes amazing. We were surprised by butter chicken combo (did not post a pic here) .. I bet it tastes better than most of the Indian restaurants in Ottawa.

I went there recently with my friends around 5:30ish and there were many people already. I did the reservation when I got there and waited 30 minutes. Overall, the food was great, and the atmosphere was also great (general pub). But I think the service was . The server was kept walking through our table and glanced our foods but never asked whether we are satisfied with the food or want something more . Whenever the dish is empty, he just grabbed it away from us without asking anything. I know the restaurant was busy, but I was expecting to be asked a little like how was the food? Can I take this dish away if u don t mind? Something like this. The price for the pop is also little too much ig (4.5dollars for just a canada dry..) was little pricey but i had a good time with my friends :)

We were out for an early family birthday celebration for my mom, who is turning 88. They were able to seat us as a 3 generation family of 7 fairly comfortably, and we really enjoyed ourselves. Good food and a good time was had. My nephew, sixteen years old, enjoyed his meal so much, he ordered it twice...or maybe that was more that he is sixteen and needed more food! If youre ordering a bowl, the Southwest is the biggest for the dollar by far. My Dragon was tiny next to my brother-in-laws. I was satisfied but jealous. Vegetarian options: The crispy cauliflower was delicious! Wheelchair accessibility: Wide doors.

Ordered the spicy chicken sandwich. Where s the chicken ? The size was too big to eat with your hands. The buns were very large, and chicken was covered with a ridiculous amount of batter. In the end, very little chicken in this large chicken sandwich. I made the mistake of trying to eat. Only had half and now have upset stomach. Disappointed!

Excellent and accommodating service before our show at NAC, when we were hungry but in a rush! A really enjoyable experience. Love the music, TVs and overall atmosphere. Dragon bowl was delicious.

My all time fav... I kinda always look forward to going to this place and eat some really good food. The service is always polite, fast and efficient. All the servers in there are really soo sweet, 10 stars for them. The food is excellent quality, fresh ingredients, well balanced spices.

Great spot. The food was excellent and very well priced. I was impressed with the quantity and quality of the food for the price. Honestly one of the best restaurants Ive been to. Their drinks are solid too. They have some nice-looking beers, cocktails, and mixed drinks. I had the in-house lager which was great. Lastly, the vibes are absolutely immaculate. I will certainly be back to try out some other dishes and other beverages. Cheers.

I work in the building and come here often for drinks after work. The food is great and the atmosphere is fun but the service is consistently slow and the servers don t acknowledge you at all. They take orders and deliver food, but they don t ask how everything is, if you need anything else or even smile as they walk around. It takes forever to be greeted when you sit down and they don t say hi. The food is good just be sure not to come if you are in a rush or value your time in any way.

we ordered a dragon bowl substituted with tofu and a southwest rice bowl. Loved the southwest ricebowl!
