French Canadian wine bar serving sharing plates. Local and wild foods in a casual atmosphere.
Wonderful evening last week. Service is the best as is the wine list. Don’t miss the warm celeriac salad or the mushrooms if they’re on the menu. Steak was perfect as you can see. Looking forward to my next meal at Buvette Daphnée :)
Exceptional cocktails. That’s the review. If you’re looking for exquisite and refreshing cocktails, then this is the place for you. The servers here are so friendly and the service was decent for a busy evening. What I loved about this place was the design and the interior. The beautiful floor tiles, the menus that look like napkins, the rose-gold glasses, wow.
One of those rare dining experiences where every single dish and every single bite was outstanding. This restaurant is truly a culinary treat. Tapa style sharing plates makes it easy to try different things on the menu. The star of the show was the grilled whole sea bass. Service was a bit slow at times but otherwise okay. Thanks for an amazing evening!!
Exceptional restaurant. As someone who dines out in Ottawa often, this is probably our favourite spot so far this year. Great service from the moment you walk in. Food had Quebec influence, was well balanced, and interesting. Great wine selection. Would recommend!
Got a table early evening via Resy which I found to be a rather anxious reservation app. High top table are ok but perhaps not for a long dinner. Found a nice hook for my walking cane. Service staff were excellent and accommodating and worked with kitchen to find substitutes for an allergy. Menu is very creative and the presentation is just fabulous. Flavours and textures at times unexpected but very pleasant surprises either way. It is an inspired menu. Recommend ordering more bread to soak up those sumptuous sauces. Love open kitchens when done well. And operated well. You do not hear them. I accidentally turned off the kitchen lights (it was labelled) while visiting the washroom. Not a growl to be heard from the kitchen staff. Just awesome. Overall creativity is really impressive.
Great dishes but the value wasn't quite there. Flavour was on point for most dishes and our favorite was the whole sea bass. Some dishes weren't a great value... For example the tuna tartare was $25 for 2 "egg rolls" of tartare. We also felt that the Cornish Hen could have used some freshness or acidity but still enjoyed the dish. In all, we were happy with every plate and the service was great. The cocktails we tried were also very good.
Thank you for finding us a table for my husband's dinner the night before he did his 25th marathon! He is not one to want pasta before a big marathon. From your wonderful staff, to your beautiful atmosphere, to your DELISH food, you get an A+++++ Xoxo
Daphnee offers a great dining experience at an incredible value. The quality and quantity of food they serve at their price point feels like robbery in broad daylight. The cocktail menu was another highlight, I saw some really unique ingredients (or at least I thought) - popcorn rum anyone? I love that they offer a chef's tasting menu.
We went to Buvette Daphnee last night and was thoroughly impressed. The service was exceptional from start to finish. The food was outstanding. Each dish was beautifully presented and bursting with flavor. I particularly enjoyed the sea bass which was perfectly cooked and seasoned. I highly recommend Buvette Daphnee for anyone looking for a delightful dining experience.
The roasted celeriac was the best thing we ate that night, and my partner is a meat eater! Delicious; and attentive servers!
I can t emphasize enough how amazing this place is. Every dish is delightful and makes you want to order a second round.
I was recommended to sit at the bar to watch the chefs. All the food I got was very good, and the presentation was on point, thought the service was slow even though there were very few customers. The chefs were cooking without gloves, which I didnt mind at first, but then I watched one of the chefs go from handling food, to texting on his phone, right back to handling the food.....disgusting.
Fantastic food and cocktails in the Market. The quality of the dishes was great. Highly recommend. The waiter was very helpful so we could select gluten free options.
Favorite for the grilled celery root salad! The execution, the presentation and the flavors, everything was there. The other dishes ordered were more appealing upon reading the menu than once in the mouth. The sourdough bread (we would have preferred it hot, toasted and homemade) and its maple butter lacked work and research. The creton croquettes were good but nothing more. The dessert that made us salivate so much on paper (croissant-chômeur) was bland and disappointing. Finally, we would have appreciated a greater variety of non-alcoholic drinks.
Came for an anniversary dinner and definitely didn t leave disappointed. Good service, nice atmosphere and even better food. We tried the soubise, celeriac salad, creton croquettes, mushroom dish and the whole sea bass. That sea bass was the star of the show by far! Perfectly crispy skin with tender fish and a fantastic sauce. I would go back just for the fish alone! Definitely can t skip on this dish if you go.
We had the opportunity to spend a superb evening at Buvette Daphnée, a Quebec wine bar in the heart of the by market serving small dishes to share. What a great experience, one that we would love to do again sooner rather than later! We spoiled ourselves and tasted several delights: Creton croquettes/fermentation/dill, Tomato salad/pine nuts/rose vinegar, Potato/egg/smoked soubise tomato, Grilled sea bass/Cancalaise sauce and Bavette/carrots rainbow/carrot-fennel sauce and grated fennel. Naturally we couldnt leave without dessert lol: Poached peach with Pineau des Charentes/creamy sweet clover/ice cream and Anna Cake/sunflower/honey with spices and dark chocolate. Among the delights our accompaniments included a superb Italian biodynamic Prosecco as well as an ITOSCANI red. Ive never really liked orange wines but my favorite of the evening was a Pure Imagination 2022 orange wine. Yum! A big thank you to the sommelier Nicholas, he was superb! Exceptional service with Tash, Karima and Hind. As well as Chef Sean who was able to accommodate for my Meniere. Thank you all, what a great experience!
A perfect summer evening with a friend sitting on the patio in the market. We shared two plates including the potato, egg, smoked tomato soubis and a bottle of red. So impressed by the freshness and the flavour of our choices. So good The staff were helpful and friendly adding to the experience. Looking forward to our next visit when we ll save some room for dessert. Highly recommend !
Elevated food experience in a relaxed and fun atmosphere. We purposely sat at the bar and had excellent wine recommendations and well come back to try the cocktails that looked amazing. Buvette Daphnée is a gem in the byward market.
Had a great time at Daphnee! The food was really good, and I especially loved the sharing plates perfect for trying a bit of everything. That said, I did find the portions a bit small for the price. The dessert wasn t anything special, so I d skip it next time. But the atmosphere was fantastic, and the cocktails were delicious! Definitely a spot worth visiting for drinks and a fun night out.
Food is solid but for several dishes, the food/price was on the expensive end for the quantity. Grilled mushrooms and jus accompanying the steak were the highlight dishes. Servers were fun and engaging, and always kept an eye on the table. Cocktails mocktails were tasty, with a good hit of alcohol/syrup. I would say visit this place for tapas/ bites and drinkies rather than a full meal - which it appears many locals have already sussed out, as we saw several couples wander in for just a drink at various points during the evening.
Cuisine style fusion. Très bon, cuisine excellente, service extraordinaire. Nous avont été servis par Daphné. Prix un peu cher mais ca vaut la peine. Je trouve les drinks hors de prix, et le son un peu fort. Cest tout Dietary restrictions: They did adjust for lactose intolerance
Terrible owner
Bad ownership, wanted to come but definitely won t now!
Amazing !
Previously worked with Dominique Dufour trash human
Dinner was delicious and Anna, our server, was absolutely wonderful. Very friendly and knowledgeable. We ll definitely be going back soon!
I had nearly given up on the Ottawa culinary scene. Thank the stars I tried this place. Absolutely recommend and will certainly be back soon.
The food was so underwhelming - the flavors were all over the place - and the price is too high for what was served. At that price point - It should be delicious and interesting - most of the plates had too much acid and were missing other flavors. Deep fried creton, bread and scallops swimming in acid is not worth 250+. This restaurant would never survive in Montreal or Toronto. .. The interior is beautiful, staff need more table etiquette experience and food was not worth it.
Great atmosphere, appreciated the bilingual service! Would suggest mixing in some jazz, french classics, modern franco music. Rap is good but a bit of variety would be nice. Food was great! Creton croquettes were suprisingly good! I think the highlight was the celerie-rave! We ll be recommending!
No need to add anything. Just go. You will not be disappointed for a fine casual dining. Food
Reserved for our wedding anniversary, but they closed without prior advise the restaurant. They ruined our special night.
Read the Ottawa Citizen article about how Dominique Dufour treats staff. We had a reservation that got cancelled because of it, and we will never be back
I was going to dine here for my birthday, however the restaurant was closed for technical issues. Come to read the Citizen article published today, and the truth comes out. Its like 2017 all over again, with Ottawa Venues protecting an abuser and allowing staff to endure workplace harassment and abuse. Kudos to the staff who banded together and refused to return to an unsafe work environment. Those who have worked in hospitality before know how commonplace poor environments are.
Good, but getting the food was a little slow. I had the Cornish hen but I think it could have benefited from a little more acid. Everyone is very nice!
Interesting and delicious food, knowledgeable and fun staff, especially Nicholas the sommelier and the pastry chef Kaylee. Overall an amazing evening out!!
This was my second visit to Buvette Daphnée, and I was disappointed. I went to celebrate my anniversary; we had reservations at 8:30, and our table wasnt ready when we arrived. Completely understandable. Ten minutes later, the server came to take us to our table, and it still wasnt ready. I adore that the menu is meant to be shared; I love experiencing food with friends and family. However, some portions came in odd numbers, making it difficult to share.
Unfortunately, their good presentation or creativity doesn t match the taste and definitely the portion sizes. We tried tuna tartare, croquettes, and the cod. All of them were salty. All of them were way too expensive. As we all know that when you go to a restaurant that has a tasting menu and expected to be expensive and fancy, you end up leaving the place hungry. That s absolutely fine, no problem. But at least you should get the taste. Service was excellent, each time you get your course they would explain what s inside. But again, with cod we get morels stuffed with scallops and shrimp. Really? Where is the taste of the seafood? Overall, they need to work on the menu in terms of the taste.
10/10, great service.
It was refreshing to see a restaurant that changes their menus. Everything I had there was great!
Just had a wonderful dinner with two friends. The food was delicious, very innovative and tasty. We wanted to finish off the evening with tea and coffee - to our surprise this restaurant does not serve tea or coffee. Then one of us asked for a cup of hot water. This arrived steaming hot in a glass - too hot to handle. We asked if it could be poured into a cup - no, this restaurant does not have cups. We re still trying to figure out why not?
We tried the chef s tasting menu, and it was fantastic! My absolute favourite was the fish and the potato tatin.
Amazing spot 10/10 food!
Unfortunately, I did not enjoy my meal here at all. I will admit that before coming here I took a look at the menu and nothing stood out to me. However, I decided to still give it a try. I have concluded that the Menu is just not to my taste and there is no point in me returning. Not even for vibes or drinks.
Buvette Daphnée was so lovely! The space was beautiful and the food was obviously perfect. THANK-YOU TO MELYNA you were the best!!
Great gem in the Byward market! Appetizing sharing dishes for couples, between friends. Cozy and intimate atmosphere. A new must when in Ottawa! Food : 5/5 |
Absolutely my favorite place in Ottawa.
As I entered the Buvette, I knew the evening would be beautiful, and it was. The setting is welcoming. Yes, its a wine bar, but the talented ¨Joseph¨ Nicolas knows how to prepare excellent cocktails while playing the role of wine advisor. Chef Dominique Dufour entrusted him with the task of selecting the wines on the menu. We were treated to two excellent tastings, Domaine les enfants sauvage and Les Rivoires Saint-Joseph. These wines perfectly accompanied the different dishes that we had the pleasure of tasting. This is where Chef Dufour comes in with a series of tasty little dishes. The tartare, white asparagus and Cornish hen, to name a few, were all excellent. The sauce that accompanied some dishes was worth the detour. Will I go back? Absolutely! @lporama
Beautiful decor, very cool vibes. The service is excellent. Even though they had an unforeseen rush due to all the conferences in Ottawa that day, they managed to find a table for my colleagues and I and were so friendly and gracious. The food also... incredible. The Chasseur and the White Asparagus are must-tries. So nice to see such high-grade restaurants in Ottawa, especially in the market. LOVE
What an experience! We finally decided to check out Buvette Daphnée after hearing great things and it blew away our expectations. We sat at the bar and were immersed in all the action with many dishes being cooked and prepped right in front of us. Ten was absolutely awesome (as was the rest of the staff) and was wonderful to chat with. We did the tasting menu and it was outstanding and left us satisfied and bursting at the seams (the white asparagus was our fav). Wifey was pregnant and said the mocktails were on point! Thanks for an amazing time, we will be back!
This was an exceptional dining experience. The entire menu (spring seasonal) looked delicious so we went with the tasting menu which the team graciously adapted to my vegetarian needs. I was blown away by every bite, by the staff. This is clearly a place that cares about serving delicious food and providing a fantastic experience and ambience. Nothing was overdone or overwhelming. Perfect and can t wait to go back for more experiences.
Our first visit was such a positive experience that were certain to be back soon! If you visit, I highly recommend the chefs choice menu and the accompanying wine pairings.
The taste here is on another level . Blown away
Wow this wine pairing and meal was amazing. What a treat!!! Highly recommend it for a special event.
Extremely happy with our new find in the Byward market. Hands-down the best restaurant in the market, in fact. They do everything right-unique and delicious plates, decor, service. We did the tasting menu and wine pairing. It was a great experience and fantastic value. This new restaurant is highly recommended. Well be going back when their tasting menu turns over.
An absolutely lovely experience. Food was fantastic, service and atmosphere was spot on. Definitely will return.
A+ experience. Each dish was delicious and beautifully presented, fun wines by the glass, great atmosphere and great service.
4.5 stars - The restaurant itself is very beautiful. Tried a few dishes but the croquettes and dumplings were the stand outs for me. And the bread with maple butter is not to be missed.
Incredible quality food. Very elevated but also good portion size. Just go!
I had a great experience at Buvette Daphnée! We were able to sit at the bar right in front of the cooks/chef. The service was personable. Our waitress Melina was great and made the experience unique. The food was excellent! Would recommend without hesitation.
First Visit (second visit may be more accurate sadly): Good cocktails, great tapas, open kitchen concept. Kitchen staff very friendly and was willing to explain what they were doing! Looking forward to coming back and trying their tasting menu. Second Visit Edit: Quite disappointed Went to their tasting menu, the menu was told to us three different times with different sets of items each time. Comparing pictures with the other reviews, we noticed that the tasting menu portions didn t really differ much from 3 occupancy tables vs 2 or 4. Very disappointed in that, felt like we were jipped. The taste of 5/7 dishes were good, except the half cured/half smoked salmon (very mushy). Overall for the price and (uneven) portioning, I wouldn t go back sadly. This place has great potential but the last experience just wasn t enough.
Excellent food and service! I like being able to share the plates and try a little bit of everything. Nicholas was really amazing in his knowledge of the wines and really captured my taste. A very nice addition to the Byward Market. I really like the cozy booths as well. Definitely recommend.
Great new place, amazing wine list, very Montréal style buvette. The service was really good. Food was creative and pretty well done. Id recommend for a fun night to share a few plates with friends.
Fabulous meal at #BuvetteDaphanée in the Byward Market last night - Carrot salad with citrus, potato rosti with duck egg, boudin blanc in brioche, and Cornish hen with mushrooms. Yes! Service and room vibe also great, highly recommended. Vegetarian options: Plenty. Dietary restrictions: One of us couldnt eat dairy and they were very accommodating.
Great food, exceptional service amongst the best in Ottawa, nice lively atmosphere. It was my first time yesterday. Ill be back!
Last night was our first time at Daphnée Buvette but definitely not the last. We chose the tasting menu and wine pairing and were extremely impressed. Service was outstanding. We were even graciously offered some cannelé!
Fantastic restaurant. We did the Tasting Menu with the wine pairing. The food was exquisite. Beautiful presentations, great flavours and good portions. We left full and satisfied. The atmosphere was fun and beautiful. I will highly recommend this restaurant to my network. This is a 4 star review rather than a 5 star as we felt the wine pairing was sub par. 3 wines total including a Vidal and a Vermouth was deceiving. When we go back, we will be ordering our own cocktail and/or bottle.
Incredible dining experiences a true highlight! Service was exceptional, personable, relaxed but professional and Nicholas was a stand out server. Recommend it to everyone without hesitation
I had this place on my list of restaurants I wanted to try and I was not disappointed! The service was amazing right from the moment we walked in! The woman at the entrance was smiley and warm, the server was extremely well informed about their products including wine flavours and recommendations. She was attentive and accommodating. The cheese plate was amazing with its babka and homemade strawberry lavender preserve. I will be returning very soon!
We had a wonderful time enjoying the wine pairing and the dinner. The selection of wines was thoughtfully curated, perfectly complementing the excellent food. The staff went above and beyond, ensuring we were well taken care of throughout our meal. However, the choice of music was a bit out of place for the setting. Hearing Jay-Zs Empire State of Mind and similar bangers didnt quite align with the ambiance. Given that the restaurant specializes in French Canadian cuisine, a touch of modern Quebecois music would have been a nice addition, especially considering the rich musical heritage of Quebec.
The execution, flavour profiles, and service were just as youd expect from Buvette Daphnee. Ottawa doesnt deserve Dominique Dufour. Thank you, thank you, thank you!
The food was good, but a bit expensive for what it is. The fish dish I had was amazing, the brassica very good, while the carrot one and sausage in pâté were just ok. The cannelés bordelais were really not it. Too burnt on the outside. The cream inside was good, but it kinda ruins the texture of the cannelés. The wine by the glass options are more on the expensive side. The comme chez Daphné tasting menu looks to be a better option. The overall meal felt a bit underwhelming for the price. Great atmosphere and service though.
Great atmosphere and service. I wanted to love the food but i can t give it more than a 4. The highlight for us was the crab and everything else was mediocre. Was not worth the $250 imo but the experience was ok!
My new favourite restaurant in Ottawa. The vibes are immaculate and the food is delicious. Will be returning very soon!
Quite possibly my new favourite Ottawa spot. Incredible flavours, attentive and caring service, and exceptional value. We loved our experience and will be back. Grateful Ottawa has this now.
The food and drinks were different and delicious. Interesting pairngs and a very good experience overall.
Service was incredible! They had a new menu, food was underwhelming.
I am so happy to have discovered this gem. I was actually more and more excited as the evening went on. This was a culinary experience. Thank you - we will definitely be back. Service was on point. Dishes were beautiful. Kitchen spotless.
Wow, what an exquisite culinary experience. This New Year I was spoiled with this visit to Daphnée! Each dish was honestly a masterpiece, showcasing the chefs culinary expertise. The warm charming decor and inviting atmosphere, coupled with attentive staff, adds a touch of sophistication to the meal. Highly recommend
I ve been a couple of times now. I came during their soft public opening (ordered a la carte) and then more recently for their tasting menu option. Honestly both experiences were fantastic. I ll say if you have your heart set out on a particular dish (the Pastrami is the one I adored and wished I had the second time), just go a la carte but you can t go wrong with the tasting menu with wine pairings (even if you re not a big wine drinker). Service is great and love the ambience and location as well.
Wow, very nice discovery Vegetarian options: Yes Dietary restrictions: Yes available
Exotic food Wheelchair accessibility: Super accessible Food : 4/5 |
Had a really amazing dinner here. Service and food were spectacular and the general vibe at the restaurant is amazing. After one meal it s one of my favourite spots in Ottawa, will definitely be back.
The food and cocktails were excellent. We enjoyed everything about the experience except for the 2-hour table limit, as we felt rushed. For that reason alone, I m not sure that I would return.
Awesome little spot. Great food. Great people
Because the very first comment was an unfair one star from a job applicant who got rejected and decided to put 1 star even before the place actually opened...
Great food, great service, great vibe!
Food, wine, cocktails, atmosphere. Nothing to say other than everything was perfect. Thanks to alex, rowan, nicholas, gabrielle.
The food is so delicious and unique. The staff explain each ingredient of your order. This is priceless!!! We love it.
From the heart of Ottawa emerges a culinary gem that redefines our perceptions of French cuisine. At Buvette Daphnée, every dish is a tapestry of tradition and innovation, a harmonious blend that pays homage to classic recipes while bravely venturing into uncharted territories. As soon as you step into this modern establishment, theres an unmistakable hint of cosmopolitan flair that transports you to a dining space more reminiscent of Montreals vibrant culinary scene. Its an escape, a gastronomic journey that promises to tantalize and intrigue. Every plate is a piece of art; an intricate dance of colors, textures, and ingredients. The precision and care in presentation are undeniable. But whats even more impressive is the depth and balance of flavors that erupt with each bite. From the appetizer to the dessert, every morsel echoes the meticulous craftsmanship of the chef. Beyond the impeccable dishes, the service at Buvette Daphnée is truly top-notch. The staff anticipates every need, curating a seamless dining experience from start to finish. They possess both the knowledge and passion for their offerings, guiding patrons through the menu with insightful recommendations. For those looking to sample the breadth of their creations, I strongly suggest embracing a tapas-style approach: 2-3 dishes per person. This way, you can embark on a more diverse culinary adventure, discovering the full spectrum of what this establishment has to offer. Its rare to find a place that genuinely elevates the dining landscape of a city, but Buvette Daphnée has done just that for Ottawa. This isnt merely a meal; its an experience, an exploration of modern French cuisines potential. Without hesitation, I would recommend this haven to anyone seeking an unparalleled dining experience. Prepare your palate and set your expectations high because Buvette Daphnée is set to exceed them. Cheers to culinary excellence in the heart of Canadas capital!
An unexpected gem in the heart of the Market. My husband and I enjoyed every dish at Buvette Daphnée. The service was exceptional; the servers anticipate every need and explain each dish in detail with poise. The food was amazingly fresh, flavorful, and unique. The star dish was the heirloom tomato--probably one of the best dishes Ive ever had. Overall, the restaurant has a very cool vibe and we will definitely be back. We need more restaurants like this in Ottawa! I really hope it succeeds because it deserves it.
Everything is perfect I really RECOMMEND Food
Amazing wine options. Feels like Montreal! Thanks for all the kindness, generosity and deliciousness.
A new gem in the heart of the ByWard Market!
What a wonderful culinary experience our dinner at Buvette Daphnée was! Everything was perfect: the location at the ByWard Market, the decor and the atmosphere but above all the menu, the wine list and the service. We loved each of the dishes served to us and the curiosity to taste everything encouraged us to share our different plates. Surprising and tasty are the two words that come to me spontaneously to describe this excellent cuisine. We also greatly appreciated the recommendations for wines and other drinks. So, if you like original and elaborate cuisine that goes off the beaten track as well as an impressive wine and drinks list that has some nice surprises in store for you, Buvette Daphnée is definitely a place to discover. A big thank you to the entire team for the outstanding, professional and attentive service. We will come back. Parking: Paid indoor parking.
Excellent innovative wines. I loved the Vidal from Domaine du Nival. And from QC!! Plus clearly creative tasty food. Each dish we had was fabulous. We will be returning.
Great ambiance, impeccable service and amazing food !
Incredible Montréal style bistro. Complex and delicious dishes, great wine and top-notch service. My new Ottawa favorite without a doubt.
Excellent dining experience. Servers were all very knowledgeable about the food and drink options and gave great recommendations. Would certainly return as well as recommend to others!
The food was excellent (so so good), the wine recommendations on point, and the service was very attentive. It s lovely to finally have a Montréal style wine bar to enjoy in Ottawa! Given that I went 3 weeks after opening, there are definitely a few kinks to work out, but that did not take away from a wonderful evening at Buvette Daphnée! Definitely recommend, and I will be back!
This is easily the best restaurant in Byward. I expect it to be on the canada 100 next year, it is that special!
A tasty seasonal menu made up with fresh and local ingredients. Great wine selections and a cozy atmosphere. Will keep coming back!
A new gem in the heart of Byward Market! The service and ambiance were great, and the servers take the time to explain the story behind each item we ordered. Highly recommend.
Overpriced and mediocre at best. The menu is difficult to understand, the service is not coordinated, the wine menu - while impressively long - is overweighted toward the unimpressive on quality. The decor is great but the washrooms aren t accessible. The saving grace is the cocktails. I d like to see Buvette succeed but they need some rethinking before they can. I ll try again in a few months once they ve had a chance to improve. Right now it feels like they re trying too hard and too cute by half.
Exceptional small plates, fantastic wine list, friendly service. Highly recommend.
Food is sophisticated, unique and delicious. Service is exceptional. Beautiful decor and cozy atmosphere. Amazing new restaurant!
Amazing service - very knowledge staff. Will definitely be going back!
We were looking forward to try this restaurant after the closure of the Gray Jay that we loved. Overall, the diner met our expectations. The food was very good. We had the swordfish crudo and the heirloom tomato & mushroom salad to start. These two dishes were excellent. We were not as impressed with the stuffed morels (couldnt really taste the morel) and pork belly and felt these dishes were both slightly overpriced. The latter has been described as a main course by the server; we probably do not have the same interpretation as what a main couse means in terms of size. The night ended up on a high note with the desserts (Cannelés and brownie). Great selection of wine. The service might need to be slightly faster if the restaurant wants to enforce the 2hours limit on reservation. Parking: City of Ottawa parking garage accross the street
An absolutely amazing place. The ambiance is perfect, the food is amazing and the wine list is out of this world.
Fantastic, food , wine and service.
Fantastic spot - the food was phenomenal, the service was exquisite and the overall experience was 10/10. Nicholas was the best server, he was so knowledgeable and attentive. Thank you!
Great atmosphere and amazing service. Chef Dominique and sommelier Thomas were attentive and knowledgeable. Made for a great ladies night out for dinner!
Im so glad to have walked by this restaurant. Thoughtful, interesting and delicious food. Great atmosphere and excellent service. I hope to come back soon :)
The food was incredible. We had bar seats across the dessert station which gave us a preview of the incredible looking dessert and we were lucky enough to have Dominique (owner) right next to us making a lot of the recommendations. We are certainly planning to go back and highly recommend this restaurant!
I want to say that the staff here are amazing. We had the tasting menu and at the beginning of it there was some confusion over food going to wrong tables. This is fine as far as Im concerned because were all human after all. It was especially fine because the staff worked their best to make up for it by giving us an extra drink here and there and even an extra plate of food. These guys deserve a 10/5 for customer service. The food was very delicious and quite well executed as far as I was concerned. Quality here is definitely high. My only complaint about this place is that it came out trying to be a Montreal style wine bar and having been to Montreal and to quite a few of these, I had a very definitive idea of what that meant to me. This did not feel like that. It feels too cookie cutter. Everything is new, except for the old window with a street number which is mounted to the wall backwards (perhaps this is on purpose - meant to be like the wall its facing is outside). The lights are very bright and you feel like youre on top of other patrons. This is mostly due to the wide open nature of the resto. I dislike this trend very much. It doesnt lend itself to developing any sort of intimacy with your dining companions, the staff, and even the resto itself, if you can understand that.
- FOOD: We did the $75 tasting menu - in short, on one hand the food was delicious but on the other hand I was still decently hungry after. Still worth it given the variety of dishes you can try. - Hay Hen dish and the sausage-stuffed morels were absolutely delicious. I would recommend getting these two on their own if you re not trying the tasting menu. - For the squash-radicchio-onion-apple combo: Squash was great, not a fan of the bitterness of the radicchio. - There was an excellent purple dish with a potato-like texture; not sure what it was. - Caramelized sourdough pullman was great. - Whipped dairy and maple gastrique was delicious. - DECOR: The interior is very pretty, from the tiling to the seating to the overhead lighting. The dishware and cups were also well-selected. - DRINKS: The mocktail (Beau Lendemain) I tried was great. The cocktails served to our table were aesthetically pleasing. - WINE TASTING: The wine pairing ($50/person) accompanying the tasting menu featured 3 sizable pours - I think a 4th glass would ve made it an appropriate deal. - SERVICE: Our original server was very nice and accommodating to the fact that I had dietary restrictions. The server who took over later in the shift was also nice but not as attentive - in the 45 minutes between our last course and when we paid, we were only checked on once. The water was not refilled during that period as well. And while he apologized for the extremely loud group next to us, the group was still loud to begin with and was like that since the moment they walked in. - SERVICE, pt.2 - While I am very appreciative of the fact that the chefs were willing to accommodate my allergies for the tasting menu (hence how we were able to have the delicious hen), I was not happy with the lack of communication surrounding how the accommodation would be operationalized. I was told by our server that they would make 2 substitutes (again, very appreciative of this), so I was under the impression that there would be distinct mini-portions for me for the two courses that I was allergic to. This turned out not to be the case. First of all, for our table of 4, there ended up being four dishes that I was allergic to, where they accommodated by only providing 3 pieces of the dish (3 croquettes, 3 swordfish pieces, 3 canneles, and 1 other dish I cannot recall). Second, because there was no explicit communication that I would not be provided my own distinct substitute portion, for the dishes I could eat, each person ate 1/4 of the total, but for the 4 dishes I could not eat, I just sat around. In other words, while all 4 of us paid the same amount for the tasting menu, I ate significantly less food. I wouldnt have ordered the tasting menu if I knew how this is how it s be operationalized. I told the nice server I was equally happy to simply order the hay hen and stuffed morels. Conclusion: I don t mean to be a Karen in the slightest - I usually only leave positive reviews and I think the food was excellent. But I just wanted to express my disappointment with how my allergies were accommodated. Dietary restrictions: See review for further details.
Incredible food, service and experience.
We were fortunate to sit at the bar. Our experience was excellent and service was professional and friendly. The bar tender was knowledgeable and friendly. The food was fantastic.
It was really good. Theyre transparent about their plate sizes which was nice cause it allowed us to make a more informed decision about what to order. Their meals were sooo good! We honestly had a lot of fun, just trying all those different flavours. What a great experience! Highly recommend as a fancy night out.
Excellent food - you HAVE to try it! The atmosphere is very casual but the service is excellent and the food is outstanding.
6/5 stars. Buvette Daphnée offers a tasting menu and wine pairing that delivers a perfect balance of flavours and taste. With an atmosphere of modern Montreal and a late 70s decor, this meal will surely have you feeling comfortable and warm. The wine pairings offer refreshing and unique combinations that bode perfectly with the fantastic cuisine. Merci!
I have never had such a bad experience in any restaurant like this. The smell of the restaurant was terrible. Service was awful and they were so rude. Also, the amount of the main course was ridiculous. The picture I added is the main course.
Excellent
It was just fine, not great. I was expecting more flavour and technique. I hope this place succeeds and because it has so much potential. But it just didn t quite meet the mark for me.
went there last Saturday and we just happened to walk by the restaurant looking for a place to eat. so we decide my wife and i to try it and it was the most beautiful experience. Amazing athmosphere, great food sharing was a good experience. Staff amazingly friendly and great wine list etc. \highly recommend you try it.
Fine dining, a culinary experience in fact. Warm atmosphere in a well-designed decor. The service is the icing on the cake.
O.M.Gosh. Everything about this place is amazing . This is now my most favorite place to eat and have wine Food : 5/5
This is a well regarded restaurant but I was a little disappointed when I ate here. The venue is very noisy, with a lot of hard surfaces to amplify the acoustics, so although reflective of a brasserie was not particularly comforting. The food is mostly served as small plates for family dining but be aware that the share plates are small - the potato dish was two fingerling potatoes cut in half. The food is tasty but I felt it was pricey for the amount served. The morels with sausage was tasty but the morels were overwhelmed by the other flavours. The sticky toffee cake was wonderful. The service was inconsistent with 2 dishes served fairly quickly and then the third quite a while later - to the point that we were beginning to think that the third dish had been forgotten. The wine list was extensive but with relatively few available by the glass. It is very nice that the list included wines from 4 different Canadian provinces, including Quebec but the selections were unusual - they seem chosen for having unique or amusing names or an interesting provenance rather than necessarily for quality but if you want quirky wines that you won t easily find from unusual places then this is the place for you.
Wonderful experience. Staff went above and beyond to accommodate a dietary issue for the tasting menu. Drinks were phenomenal and the bar tender was wonderful. Came by the table to see how things were explained some of what went into making the drinks. Dietary restrictions: We had a member of our party who couldn t do one of the dishes because of the way the vegetables are prepared. They offered us another option for the tasting menu without an issue.
My wife and I dined there a couple of weeks ago and enjoyed a tremendous meal. Their Comme Chez Daphnee offering for only $75 is a bargain and was a wonderful introduction to their kitchens capabilities. It included several of the appetizer dishes, a main and a couple of the desserts. Their wine list is exensive and exceptionally-well selected with many very interesting and unusual offerings. The wine pairing we took with our meal reflected the interesting list. Definitely a great addition to Ottawas dining scene and one we will return to.
