We are now open on the patio and inside
Something wonderful has happened to the Canal Ritz since I was there last. Which was late during the pandemic, so that may have had something to do with my less than stellar expaerience back then. I was there again this past September, and recently in December, and both times the food was not only well-prepared, but imaginatively combined and very prettily presented. Furthermore, the location, in the trees on the Rideau Canal, is uniquely beautiful, especially in summer, but even in winter.
We had our wedding dinner & reception here and it was so beautiful! The owner, manager and staff were all so accommodating and went above and beyond to make our night exactly what we envisioned! They really made the whole wedding experience seamless and made sure everyone was comfortable and taken care of. The food was hot and came out quickly and was great! The view of the canal and all the lights inside made the ambiance so special. Definitely recommend having a wedding or event there if you’re thinking about it!
I was up from the states for a weekend trip to the National Capital Region and we were invited to a lunch at the Canal Ritz. I was very pleased with the experience I had. It’s a quaint establishment with beautiful view of the canal. I opted to dine inside on account of the temperature. It offer an appetizing menu, and an attractive drink menu. There was a daily special which seemed like it would’ve been delightful. But I stayed conservative and ordered a Chicken Caesar Salad, which was delicious, and a Stella Artois to drink. I will add this to the list of restaurants I plan and hope to visit again in the future for when I’m in the area. I’d like to thank the staff for the service they provided! I look forward to visiting again!
The location and view are amazing, especially while out on the patio/sundeck, but the food is not great. I’ve tried items off the regular menu and the three course meal, both have been under-seasoned and, frankly, taste like the frozen stuff bulk sold to restaurants. I’d recommend stopping for a drink on the patio though.
This establishment offers a delightful dining experience with professional staff, breathtaking views, and a charming ambiance. The cuisine is of exceptional quality and the atmosphere is particularly romantic after sunset. I highly recommend this venue for any occasion.
I visited this place during my visit to Parliament Hill in Ottawa. If you want to enjoy the visit then you must take the ferry. It is around one hour drive on a ferry. Most exiting and beautiful place.
Had lunch here for the first time this week. Both of our meals were delicious. It was a very unique atmosphere eating right on the canal. Great staff.
Solid solid spot. Would go back anytime. And it was a decent to price for food. They had great options and very unique desserts which is always nice to try. And the scenery is beautiful!!! Right by the Rideau canal and what a stunning view ( there are firefly’s in the area which make it even more stunning). I suspect it’s busy during peak season so may be worth checking to see if you need a reservation but they accommodate walk-ins Definitely a spot that tries to accommodate dietary and special needs.
Attended as a group and it seemed easy enough to organize. A specific menu was provided with a variety of choice. Price point was reasonable. The rest was mostly empty for a saturday night. Food arrived quickly. The salmon was ok, the chicken parmigiana was definetly not a hit and we thought the Creme Brulé was really off. Service was good and very few mistakes were made despite the large group and quantity of drinks ordered.
The ambiance is great given it s one of very few restaurants with a view overlooking water in Ottawa - a real shame given the number of rivers in the area. The menu is somewhat limited with emphasis on pizzas which doesn t align with the setting. Parking: Would be a nice spot during Winterlude with skating on the canal.
Their food was not good. I will not return to this establishment.
One of my favorite restaurant in Ottawa. I go to eat there on multiple occasions. Excellent customer service, very professional, polite, great atmosphere plus the food is always great. Try their asparagus soup as an entree, and you wont regret it yummy.
Canal ritz simply has some of the worst food I ve ever been served in a restaurant. I used to live literally across the street and after one visit, my wife and I realized what a horror show this place is. Food is basically hot garbage. I can t believe I didn t write a review until now. Do not eat the food. Grab a drink, enjoy the view but for the love of god, do not eat here.
Food was delicious. Service was great.
Ive been living in Ottawa for 25 years and regularly visit Canal Ritz because of its beautiful location. However, aside from the good service and scenic view, there isn t much to praise about the food. The menu rarely changes, and the quality of the dishes is quite mediocre. Given its prime, almost iconic location in the heart of Canadas capital, one would expect much better quality and more exciting flavours. While the location deserves 5 stars, the food, decor, and amenities barely rate 3 stars. This special spot in Ottawa truly deserves a better decor, better chef and a more inspired menu.
Place is delicious
We were a party of 6, my meal was fantastic, from the Mussels in a creamy sauce with a bit of spice. The Chicken Marsala melted in my mouth. My date said that the grilled Salmon was the best she ever had.
Amazing view, nice pasta and pizza
The experience was too poor to even describe. I will say that the service and ambiance was also a major let down. I would not recommend this restaurant. It s way over due for renovations and maybe even some staff training on basic customer service. I couldn t be more disappointed. Save your time and skip this spot.
My friend and I made a reservation for 6 PM and arrived on time. We were seated immediately, but it took about five minutes for anyone to come and take our order. The staff member who seated us mentioned that someone would be over shortly, but by 6:15, no one had come to assist us. Given that the restaurant wasn t busy, we found this lack of attention to be unprofessional and decided to leave. They deserve less than a star.
Canal Ritz burger terrific !!
Beautiful spot, especially for a group event. There is a set menu for groups which works out very well. Staff are fantastic.
The place is very cozy and the view is very beautiful. However, I was unlucky enough to choose the shrimp with rice and I am extremely disappointed. First because there were very few of them, 5 in a plate with rice worth $33 dollars, which is very expensive and second because the shrimp were damaged, right now I feel like I am intoxicated with this dish, I have a lot of stomach pain. This happened today, Saturday, August 25/2024. Better not order this dish. Parking: It is not clear if you can park or not, since in one area it says that you can park and inside the site it says not to park until after 6pm, it is really confusing.
From start to finish, we had a terrific experience! Greated with a smile and seated quickly. Our server was friendly and helpful and the food was delicious! Not to mention the beautiful surroundings of the terrace. We will be back on our next trip to Ottawa:)
The biggest selling point of this place is its location. Its conveniently located along a beautiful walking and biking path in a nice neighborhood. Patio seating here on a late summer sfternoon is very nice and the pleasant way to enjoy your meal with beautiful views of the Rideau Canal. The food wasnt mind-blowing but still nice. The chicken & pear salad as well as the chicken picatta & chicken Marsala were really good. The bruschetta was disappointing. The staff were pleasant & efficient.
Wonderful lunch experience with visitors from France. The smoked salmon salad was delicious. Great view ! Attentative service.
Great service and best pizza in Ottawa. Their BBQ chicken pizza was better than the ones in pizza restaurants. And a big thank you to Karina for her 5-star service. What an excellent waitress ! I highly recommend this restaurant. Food
Recommend the pear salad & ritz pizza :)
Wonderful view of the Rudeau. Serviceand food is excellent.
By far the best place for small portions and exorbitant prices. You will leave hungry and your wallet will certainly feel lighter.
Canal Ritz is one of my favorite restaurants. The ambiance is great, the service is fast, and the staff are friendly (high retention of staff). The food is delicious and hot and the view... best view in Ottawa! They have accommodated reservations of 2, or 24 with my Retirement Residents! 100% Recommend coming for a nice lunch or a romantic dinner!
Canal Ritz Saturday Night, beautiful sunny dinner service on the full patio was a total success. Great food, I had jambalaya 5/5 stars, and my partner had the pancetta, whote cream sauce pasta it was perfect, and although the place was packed servers were working like a well oiled machine, such a fun atmosphere all ages, will definitely be back again soon to try that apple cobbler. Thanks so much for a great date night would definitely recommend 5 stars
Wonderful meal on the patio watching ducks and a few tourist boats slowly work their way along the Rideau Canal. Well be back. Food
Only thing nice about this place is the location. The food is not good and too expensive.
The location on the canal is the only good aspect of this dining place. My friends oorder of chicken pic*cata was acceptable but my fish and chips were obviously dethawed, mushy and flavorless. The cost was at least $10 more than comparable restaurants. It arrived without even a pickle or a bit of coleslaw. It was dreadful and I really should have sent it back to the freezer it came from. This was a birthday lunch so I was hesitant to make a scene. Very dissatisfied and will definitely not be returning.
Nice for special dinner (on a nice day)
I have been there several times. The food is just plain ok for the price. I think people go there for the atmosphere/view, as we have. Food
Excellent food and atmosphere. Friendly staff and attentive. We asked about a salad sauce having an ingredient due to an allergy and the waitress went to the kitchen, wrote down the ingredients and returned to us promptly.l to let us know. Will definitely dine here again.
Dietary restrictions: Waiters easily offer adjustments to dishes or recommend other options for food restrictions Food
Worst server ever!! On Canada day, one of the waitresses with asian ancestry threw in a racist joke under the guise of making a joke. The only thing that stopped me from responding that day was that I didn t want to ruin canada day for my wife, that waitress was very rude and should not be serving anyone. For that reason this would be my last time at this restaurant
Some plates were decent, others not (a hard crust pizza FULL of onions, 4 tiny chicken pieces and zero bbq sauce for a bbq chicken pizza) but service was zero. The waitress kept pressurizing us to order within 1 min of being seated and stayed at our table until we ordered something. Same for paying, she kept staring at the square terminal and forced us to enter a specific amount for the tip, again adding pressure. Very rude waitress. Would personally not go back nor recommend to any friend and family.
Cute place , perfect for dates .the food is allright & its a little pricey , but its worth it if youre sitting outside with the view of the canal. Parking: Parking not to far.
Food is insulting. Bad. Hard to believe that they would serve such awful food. Bad, bad, bad. The waitress was lovely and provided good service. But this establishment needs help with the menu and the chef. Even the pizza! How can you crew that up so badly.
Unreal venue, food, and service! There was even a free rap concert - 5/5
Bruschetta was WAY too spicy and tasted like it was made with an English muffin?
Engaging and attentive servers, great food (especially the pizza), and a lovely location on the canal. We had a very large group and our needs were well attended to. Professional and friendly service.
Ate lunch here. Pasta was good. Ravioli was good. Fish and chips for me was good. Wife s fish and chips were undercooked. Service friendly. Prices are fine for beautiful location and decent food. People who complain of food prices have not been to other tourist spots ie Mont Tremblant.
My husband and I just shared an afternoon Sangria (half litre) at the Canal on the Ritz; with tip and tax it cost $48 which I find is ridiculously overpriced. It is the Ottawa race weekend and the great Glebe garage sale but that s no excuse for charging so much for what amounts to the equivalent of one glass of wine and a bit of orange juice (no fruit included). I like the atmosphere as you are on the canal, but I won t go back. Very disappointed!
Lovely location with a view of the canal. You can choose to sit inside or out and the wait staff were very accommodating to our small group of women. Food is very good, prices are held in check, with plenty of variety to suit all tastes. Parking: I would recommend reserving a table. In good weather, this place is in high demand.
Good bugger and good service
We enjoyed the view and relaxing atmosphere on a Sunday afternoon in May 2024. Our dishes were perfectly cooked and impressively delicious!
I had yet another wonderful evening there last night. From the service to the food to the atmosphere, all were top notch. I chose to drive by other restaurants to go here and I chose well. Keep up the good work. Food : 5/5 |
Took the family for lunch (table of 10). When we first walked in, felt a little awkward due to the reception from the staff. They seemed turned off initially. Our waitress was great, treated us respectfully and was great with the kids. Food was very good quality. Nice scenery, great location. Vibe was a bit off just due to the way we felt the staff was reacting to us being there. I overheard them on my way out they were shocked by the tip. Not sure what they expected but they could have been a bit more professional. Overall a great experience and would rate it 5/5 based on who we interacted with and the quality of the setting, food and scenery.
Service was great, location is beautiful. But the food is overpriced ! Portions are quite small for the price and barely any ingredients in the salads disappointed Food
Great food, great service, great views of the canal.
Excellent food. Great, friendly service Parking: Lots of street parking, as long as you dont go on an even day. Wheelchair accessibility: It was a bit tight, but I was able to get in with my wheelchair. There was no automatic door, but an employee held the door for me. The group I was with wanted to sit inside, otherwise there was plenty of room on the patio.
I used to come up to Ottawa all the time as a kid. Decided to take the wife on a trip to Ottawa and show her around. Canal Ritz was one of my favourite places to go because of the beautiful patio and the delicious food. Service was always amazing and swift. Not anymore apparently. We showed up and asked for a patio table, then told a server would be sent out to us. We sat there for 15 minutes, not so much as a water was brought to us. We made eye contact with servers who were inside the main restaurant, and nobody so much as batted an eye at us, youd think one of them would have had to courtesy to send someone out immediately. To be clear the restaurant was not particularly busy in any way. We slowly got up and walked away. What a disappointment. We had read some of the recent reviews and saw that people had felt the overall service and quality of the food went down. Now we see that was the case after all. The Canal Ritz needs an update in all regards. Sorry that I even had to write this review.
I went there for my birthday with the wife and im not quite sure what the canal view hype is, a swampy trashy lake? really confused with what people are saying, food was a whole nother level of just awful, and theres no point in the view really, waiters were nice but i couldnt name a single good thing about this dump of restaurant
Take advantage of eating and drinking by the canal on a nice day!
Still the best Fettuccine Alfredo around!
Atrociously bad food in a stunningly beautiful setting.
Omg please avoids this place at all cost. The food was terrible. Raw tomato sauce. The rice was not cooked, the cocktails was Terrible as well. And they had the audacity to charge us $5 each to cut the cake. They even cut the cake horizontally like who does that. Terrible would not recommend even to my worst enemy.
The parking lot is available for free and the people are nice. I enjoyed my breakfast in here
Ended up here for a function after avoiding it for 10 years since the last visit and nothing has changed. Nobody was taking drinks. They forgot our sons order. The salmon with seasonal vegetables only came with carrot chunks. I never got my dessert. Tried to bill us twice for drinks. We had to laugh! Such a shame considering the location.
As always, the location and the service at the Ritz are charming with staff that are always friendly. As always, the food is terrible and the menu has not changed in at least a decade. Starting with fridge-cold, day old buns and a flat beer, the pizza was about 50% smaller than in previous years and the salmon salad had doubled the lettuce and halved the salmon! The grilled salmon portion was delicious, even on Uncle Bens rice and slightly boiled carrots. This restaurant has relied on its legacy name and fabulous location without any care for the cuisine. They are in need of a redesigned menu and new talent in the kitchen. This is the huge wasted business opportunity as this should be the busiest restaurant in Ottawa requiring reservations to get in, instead on a Friday night it is largely empty, even during the Tulip Festival on the Mothers Day weekend. Parking: There is a designated parking lot across the street that is user friendly. However, some of the parking must be used by non-patrons of the restaurant.
Great location by the canal, perfect for a lunchtime break with convenient parking. However, the food was disappointing, especially considering the high prices. To top it off, the bread basket came with reused butter.
It was mothers Day, so yeah, some of the brunch had to be prepped early... Awesome service and location, the eggs Benedict has a production line slapped together quickly look. Tasty, 4 outta 5
The gave us a flat beer, we complained they said sorry we had a problem . and THEY MADE US PAY FOR IT . Don t order beers on tap
Food was awful, wasnt informed it was a fixed menu brunch. Cook couldnt cook a poached egg to save his life. For a Mothers day celebration it was awful!!! Guaranteed I will NEVER book there again!! Food
Most delicious Italian food ever 10/10 recomend
This restaurant , only a good location. I don t feel comfortable from the service at all , they were been impatient and trying to rush our dinner . With fake smiles. Food , below average. It was very bad experience . The Oner should look after his business if he is really care . Best locations in Ottawa with worst food and service .
Canal Ritz could do with an update. It is a great location right on the water with a big patio and lots of potential. The food was overpriced, really basic, and not very good. There is an old carpet through the interior that gives the place a musty feel, the bathrooms were way out of date and not too clean, and the kitchen did not look too great. Not very appetizing. If you are going for an afternoon drink and want a nice view of the canal it is probably a good place but I would not invest in a meal without some significant improvements. With all of that said, we had a really good server who helped make the experience better.
So much fun and amazing staff
The food was amazing, on top of the great service I experienced. I 100% Recommend anyone to go here.
Lovely service my friends and I came for a birthday and they were fast with food and drinks and the price was perfect beautiful location as well highly recommend!!
Amazing restaurant. Great staff!
My cocktail was very good but the food was horrible. The Bruschetta was good. My mother had the prosciutto pizza which tasted like a frozen pizza you could buy at the grocery store. I had the chicken scallopini marsala with the side of Alfredo. The Alfredo pasta was alright, but the marsala sauce was quite gross. However, the service was exceptional. The staff was extremely friendly and fast.
The seafood linguini was excellent & our server Jessica was great. Couple all this with the ambience of being with my favorite lady by the Rideau with the window terrace & dim lights, was absolutely wonderful. We even had a bunny rabbit cross by the terrace next to our window seats. . So cute!
Always a nice go to for great Italian food. They usually have a daily special which never disappoints. The decor could use a bit of a refresh or that could be part of the charm as the canal is the view. When eating there in winter or on fringe seasons, solarium is cool so bring layers. Great for larger groups as can accommodate. Vegetarian options: They exist Parking: Given it is on the canal, it is great it has its own parking across the street.
My daughters wedding venue closed with only a few months to rebook. We reached out to the Canal Ritz. Chris met with us and he was so kind and compassionate. There were some things to work out and he really went out of his way to make it work. We stayed for a delicious lunch and we were treated to dessert. Even though we ended up going with another venue, we were more than pleased with our experience. We would definitely recommend the Canal Ritz for a special event. Well return in the future. All in all a positive experience. Thank you and a special thanks to Chris for your personal attention. Parking: Parking lot is across the street.
Food was very bland and mediocre. Seems to be on par with the overall reputation of Canal Ritz on Ottawa forums. Fig pasta was excessively drenched with oil and ingredients did not go well together. It tasted poorly seasoned but maybe this was because the pasta was drowned in oil. Maybe its worth going to for the outdoor patios, drinks only, and views of the Canal in the summer but not worth making the stop for food. Id recommend One Elgin instead. Im a little surprised that after years of this poor reputation by Ottawans they wouldnt revamp their menu or change their chefs, especially when the prime location continues to draw people in. They could fix this if they wanted to. PS There was also an ant infestation near our seat when we went in the winter. Parking: Parking lot available across the street.
Service is friendly and quick and the views are nice. Unfortunately I ordered the shrimp, which was neither skewered, large, nor served with garlic butter as described on the menu. To be honest I m fairly certain it was just your average prepeeled frozen shrimp from Walmart. It instead came with balsamic vinegar, which was not listed on the menu and is a condiment many people (myself included) do not like. I m the type of person to never send food back since I dislike waste, and I would not have sent this back if I didn t feel completely scammed by what I received. Our server handled it well and had it removed from the bill. Would highly recommend just taking this off the menu, I don t see anyone not sending this back regardless of the surprise vinegar. Could see myself coming back for drinks but I won t be back for food for sure.
The food is absolutely ordinary. The service is good.
Ive enjoyed this comfortable place for about 35 years I think! Love the central location with canal views. Even if its too warm for skating, its a delicious destination for lunch or dinner.
Great location, super server Anna.
The food (2 pastas, 1 pizza, and 1 salad)was Good and the view was excellent (we were sitting in the glassed-in dining area). Unfortunately the coffee and cappuccino were tasteless and the service was less than attentive (especially considering the prices). I note that the other reviews are all over the map- perhaps it depends on which staff are cooking and serving when you visit!
Been eating there for many years. Unfortunately, the quality is not there anymore. The same dish (jambalaya) that was very good before was tasteless with a few overcooked shrimps, and 3 slices of sausage and chicken. Very sad ..
Amazing location But the menu does not meet the quality of the scenery Food
We were there for brunch on July 1. There are only four breakfast choices and we tried three of them. They were different and well prepared, but nothing extraordinary. Service was good and the restaurant is right on the Rideau canal, so a nice peaceful view. One sour note was the parking opened at the same time as the restaurant, so the entrance was blocked by a car until opening so, unless you know about it, you will try to park elsewhere. A note would have been my.
The view is spectacular for sure but the food is not that great and its way overpriced. 30$ for mussels without fries is clearly too much. Service is great though and the staff is very friendly.
Overrated . .. Wheelchair accessibility: Accessible Food : 2/5 |
Have lunch outdoors with a privileged view alongside the Canal. Kid-friendliness: Variety of kids dishes
Expensive, pretentious and uninviting. The server was friendly and accomidating but she was handcuffed by the slow bar service and inattentive manager. I would not recommend. Pity because the location is prime.
Great food, experience and good price
Nice location with a view on canal! Food is decent, but stay away from deserts (coffee in particular, and I mean it)! Service is great!
Sad place. So much potential! Great location, free parking. Old plastic tables need updating or replacing. As a former server, I was also surprised at the lack of service we received. We went for drinks and dessert. I asked the server if they make their own bread and desserts like they used to - she looked confused and said she didnt know!? Our desserts were roughly cut and the plates messy - delicious but no care (at all) to presentation. I wouldnt serve something with that poor presentation to my family at an everyday meal!!! Our server basically threw mine at me and left without saying anything like hope you enjoy it or anything at all! Too bad. As others are saying, this place could easily be awesome! Not asking for much here - just good food presented with care and pleasant service is all we want. If they are to continue in this way, they should lower prices. Prices fool you into thinking youll get something for your money. You wont. The view is the only good thing and thats free already. Someone should take this gorgeous location over and make it what it deserves to be.
So everything Ive heard about this place was true, it has pricey but decent food/drinks and has slow/unatentive service. The pasta was nice and had that homemade feel, and we really enjoyed the low amount of breading on the parm. The pizzas look to be hand made and cooked well. I cannot fathom why anyone would order the mussels as they are so overpriced. To be honest the apps need to be revamped as there was nothing appealing about the selection or their price. The server was kind and courteous but was never to be found and very unattentive for a party our size. Multiple occasions all the servers were just sitting around in the ac on their phones and had to be approached to get some service. All in all a decent meal but everything you hear about this place is true.
Aweful service, small portion of food, low quality. The only thing about that is the location. Not recommended at all.
I don t get how a business like this exist! Quality of food was horrible. Servers push you every minute. So expensive for a small portion of food! Not recommended at all Food : 1/5
The food , drink , service was Terrible . Doesn t worth trying , so disappointing Food
It s one of the worst places, expensive, worst dessert and food in so small portions and It didn t even taste good!!!!!
Wonderful place. Right on the water, pasta was homemade, amazing flavour. ( Had the seafood linguini) service was great.
Excellent excellent excellent Highly recommended Food
Delicious food and service:)))))))
Best restaurant views in Ottawa
It was raining there was a hole and water pouring down beside me. Maybe I need to wear swimming gear next time. Parking: Across the street parking.
Oversold by the guys on the cruse! If it s the best I don t want to see the worst! Service was good, as for the food... McDo is way better
Great to eat overlooking the canal.
Im celiac and they have great GF options. And even deserts wow!!!
The atmosphere is great, being on the canal and the food is excellent, the only downside is the presentation is lacking. We ordered an appetizer of various meats, olives and cheese and it came in small plastic cups, making it look cheap and also environmentally speaking, too much plastic.
I had a wonderful lunch with family to celebrate my grandparents 89th birthday, we were 11 people in total! We each had delicious food and our server was incredibly kind. She checked in on us just enough and was smart on the ball and made jokes! She said she has been serving for 15 year and it shows! Good luck to her in her masters! I had the pasta special with fettuccine and grilled chicken, with mushrooms and spinach in a rose sauce. All out food stayed hot and warm during our meal! The pasta tasted fresh and the sauce was great, the mushrooms were so tasty! Atmosphere was great, we had a great view of the canal, there was a nice breeze keeping us cool! Would definitely go back for celebration meals!
I have enjoyed the Canal Ritz for several years, but I will no longer be coming to the restaurant after the extremely poor service I received and the declining dining experience. When I arrived, I waited several minutes to be greeted and finally a young man came to assist us with a very unpleasant look on his face. He did not apologizing for the wait, and he was very curt. He proceeded to take my wife and I to a dirty table littered with cheese crumbs, where he threw the menus on the table and left without an other word. I was very taken aback as this was a sour start to our experience. We proceeded to have our favourite, the Maple Bacon and Pear pizza which was quite good but the portion has significantly decreased over the years while the price has risen. The server was nice but seemed to be extremely busy and was receiving little to no help from any support staff. I am very upset at my experience and I can only hope management will properly train their hosts to nicely great customers and give more help the servers.
Very good food, excellent bilingual service, magnificent view. The prices are a bit expensive.
Very good food. Very friendly staff. Charming ambiance. Would definitely recommend. Parking: Never had any issue. Kid-friendliness: Appropriate portions.
Ill start off with the good things. Amazing view of the canal. The server was great. We sat down and waited a good ten minutes before being waited on. The Appletini was great. The pear and brie pizza was delicious. But dirty cutlery, dirty glass, dirty table, hair in my salad, molded cucumber. The server was caring and understanding even with a free dessert (it wasnt even good). i just wont return.
I have been here back in 2017 when I lived for a summer and now I came back for a vacation with my husband. I was really hoping that they did not close down (like many restaurants post the pandemic) and I was very pleased to know it is standing still with the same great food, service, and view/atmosphere. I absolutely love this place, it makes me feel so at ease and relaxed. I ordered the canal ritz pizza, I couldnt decide between that, the artichoke one or goat pizza, so I asked the server to make a choice for me. I was happy with it, the dough is very light and soft/tender, the toppings are sauteed and full of flavour. I also got a chocolate brownie (in picture), which was decadent and rich in flavour as well. The servers are nice and the service speed is just right. I could come here every day if I could. Thank you for a nice visit Vegetarian options: a nice variety of vegetarian dishes especially pizza.
It was raining, we sat near a leaky roof. Not a very good atmosphere
Beautiful setting and service
The good: the service is very good! The servers are fast, exceptionally friendly, and attentive. The view is lovely with panoramic views of the canal. The cocktails were quite good. The bad: the food is not good. Bland and poorly composed. I d compare the chicken on my salad to what you might get on a fast food sandwich. Additionally, with prices on the high side ($90 for lunch for 2), I d expect something a bit nicer than plastic patio furniture. TLDR: go for the view, not the food.
Scenery was good, food was okay but pricey, although place was at 30% capacity, waitress tried pushing us with bill after 25 minutes, didn t even finish our food , please revisit your staff behavior or train then ,no recommendation
Great views and food
A real little treasure, this restaurant on the canal. During a boat ride on the canal, we had to make an emergency stop. A combination of circumstances, but what a great discovery. The managers and staff welcomed us very warmly. And the food, just one word: WOW!
The canal ritz is the place to go to enjoy the canal with a drink - but that s all that this restaurant is good for. The food was incredibly mediocre and I would not order anything again unfortunately. Bread Rolls 3/10 - The bread rolls before dinner were stale and cold. Pear and Brie Pizza 7/10 - the crust resembled the type of pizza you ordered from an elementary school cafeteria. The crust was thin and similar to cardboard. The pear pieces were quite big and could have been sliced thinner for more even bites. Smoked Salmon Pasta 5/10 - the pasta was heavy and the portion was large. Nothing spectacular about this dish and the smoked salmon had quite a strong smell.. Canal Ritz Burger 6/10 - amongst the many toppings on this burger, the burger was just average in taste and look. The view of the canal is always nice!
We had lunch on the terrace next to the canal. There was a nice breeze. I had a pizza, and it was made of fresh ingredients. It was not the best pizza I ever had, but it was delicious. Our waitress was welcoming and cheerful. Overall, it was a pleasant experience.
Terrible food! Terribly over-priced! Mosquitoes everywhere! If I could give this place a zero I would!
I love everything about this place !
Good atmosphere.
I dont recommend this place to any of my friends or family. The scenery and location are awesome, but the food quality, flavours, variety etc all disappoint. I came as part of a rehearsal dinner and got the salmon, the carrots were overcooked, and some tasted sour/rotten. I did not finish my plate
The best thing is the patio with a beautiful view. The staff are friendly. The food was ok but not great. Parking: There is a free parking for restaurant customers only.
It is all about the view, but beautiful! The food was good, and dont order the garlic bread, that was not so great. prices are moderate, but free parking across the street
The location is wonderful. The staff is friendly and welcoming. The food is consistently terrible and I have tried most items on the menu. The last I tried was the charcuterie board. The candied nuts were soft and spongy. The meats were colours they should not have been. It was served with huge white buns. Everything looked old and weary. It should never have been let out of the kitchen. Its a pleasure to sit there with a glass of wine but the prices for drinks are outrageous. I suggest a new menu, better quality ingredients for the food, larger glasses of wine 5 oz for 13.50 is crazy!
Very nice location with a great view. Our server was very attentive and very nice. I will definitely be back. Vegetarian options: There is a veggie burger and some vegetarian dishes.
Outstanding service by the manager, I ordered the chicken parm the thickness was about 1 to 2 ml and it was cold , the only good thing was the view on the canal .
Great food Amazing ambiance Laura the manager was very sweet and professional. I came for my 20th yr anniversary and I hope I can come back with my wife for my 30th yr anniversary Food : 5/5
Amazing service and food Laura the manager was amazing and i would definitely come back for her kindness n sweetness again Food
The first time here, pleasantly surprised to see a true gem among restaurants in Ottawa. The food is trully extraordinary, service is professional, always there when you need it.
Ambience and service are excellent, but quality of food does not match its high price. The bicycle parking is good, though.
Vegetarian options: I had the veggie burger and it was basic but still nice to have something vegetarian on the menu Food
I ve been going to the ritz for years, loved the patio during Covid, we could sit outside by the canal enjoy the ambiance and have a very over priced glass of wine. I have not found anything on the menu that was anywhere near enjoyable to eat. The menu has not changed in years. It s time for an overhaul of the menu and glasses of wine being sold in other sizes than a 5 ounce glass at the atrocious price of $13. The wait staff is always wonderful and the Ritz location can t be beat. Time for maybe a change in management to update the menu and hire a good chef.
Kid-friendliness: Excellent services for kids Food
View is great food needs to improve.
Fantastic Place with great food and great service..
Excelente Servicio Outstanding Service Haigly recommended
The worst restaurant in Ottawa, I prepare dishes much better at home, lousy service and unsmiling waiter
Loved the food, location and service. Right along the Rideau Canal and with seating right along the water. Had a very interesting pizza with slices of pear and maple bacon, which was very tasty. Can t go wrong with bacon!! Can highly recommend this place when in Ottawa.
Not bad
Superb location, good food and service. Not quite a 5-star
Great view at the canal.. However, I was frequently annoyed by the waitress (Jaz) who didn t stop coming to me asking if I need something else and her shift is over.. why should I care if her shift is over but the restaurant is still open.. it was my first time there and was going through the menu and I like to get my meal in courses, salad then soup then the main course but she really kept coming to me a lot I couldn t really enjoy my time there. It was very disappointing!!
Good food , love location and service ,Right along the Rideau Canal and with seating right along the water,Corina served us with a big smile , pizza is delicious and very tasty, highly recommend.
We were a table of eight. Four of us chose one of the specials: Fish and chips $25. The coating on the fish was doughy and undercooked as were the fries. The waitress took one back to the kitchen where they refried the fish and left the fries to go cold. Altogether a huge disappointment!
I loved the view of the canal. The food was great and service is quick.
Superb service and the waitresses are great
I was there to speak to a group about the charity I work for, it was packed! The owner met me on the street as I was trying to park, told me the lot was full and directed where to park RIGHT in front of the restaurant... SCORE! I had the delicious squash soup, shrimp & feta salad and raspberry Gelato for lunch! When the event was over, I realised I locked my keys in the car, again the owner stepped up and helped me out, he called a locksmith and they were there within 15 minutes! Amazing service and amazing food! I will be back for sure!
Update !! This used to be our GO TO place , we loved it and the food. Last few years it has been on a serious decline, we have now removed it from our places to go list. The most recent time we went, only a week ago, our waitress was as stale as the buns that was served. The bread was so salty I could not eat it ( we used to love their buns ). Our favorite was always their muscles, but this time the sauce was off and extremely spicy. Our guest ordered a personal pizza that was not cooked properly and was very doughy. We mentioned it to the waitress, who honestly could have cared less. She plopped down the bill and walked away. On our way home ( hour and 1/2 drive) we decided that was our last time there. So sad to see such a beautiful location with such awful food. Below is my review from 3 years ago: Love this beautiful spot on the rideau canal. Amazing food and service!
Excellent food and service, lovely location!
Bad service. Food was mediocre.
Everything was delicious, the service was amazing, they always asked if everything was okay, they served us super fast and they picked up our dishes super fast even though the restaurant was full. I loved it.
As retirees, a group of us go once a month to catch up, share the latest photos and eat great food.
A Nice Little Gem With A Lovely Canal View We came here for lunch (Nov 11) to celebrate a special birthday with a view of Rideau Canal. We were not disappointed. That was the real reason we considered coming to Canal Ritz. For the next hour we enjoyed the lovely view facing the canal. It is not the best ideal timing now that Fall is nearing the end but we still enjoyed the moment. The restaurant had its own parking lot which was very nice. The meals were quite good. Myself had the Canal Ritz burger while my wife had the special; Seafood Fettucine (w/ mussels). Meals were fresh and tasty. The Irish coffee, gelato and cream-cheese pie were also great. The waitress was quite nice and even offered to take pictures of us. I will definitely come back here again, but maybe in the summer or Spring to enjoy the outdoors. Parking: Free parking is a big plus, otherwise difficult to find around The Glebe
We booked a pre-holiday festive work gathering for 55 people and were delighted with the planning and end result! Planning was very easy; the manager Chris accommodated last minute changes to our number and allowed us lots of say on dietary needs of our group. The staff serving food and beverages were wonderful; attentive and charismatic. The cocktail party food was substantial; lots to go around with delicious pizzas hot from the oven, and charcuterie board, fresh bread, fresh fruit and vegetables. There was lots of space with delightful ambiance in the Solarium. A perfect evening. Thank you! Dietary restrictions: Were able to accommodate vegetarian diet, gluten free diet and tree nut allergy. Wheelchair accessibility: Solarium is wheelchair accessible.
Great service, great food and wonderful drinks as always We love our Christmas parties in canal ritz Food
Recently had supper there with group of people and was extremely disappointed with the food and service. We were rushed throughout by our waitress, who didn t seem to want to be there, and when the food arrived it was lukewarm, lacking in flavor and just not great,,,especially for the price. I know someone in our group told the waitress her meal was lacking in flavour and was told to just add salt and pepper to it. And at the end when our bills arrived, our waitress pointed out that while the gratuity was included, we could always leave more. I hadn t been to the Ritz for many years but will definitely not be going back again.
Its one of the best restaurants Ive ever been so far. Everything was amazing. Brooke was excellent in her customer service. I had one of the most memorable days of my life there yesterday ! I highly recommend this beautiful restaurant. Regards, Rishi Bhalla Food : 5/5
